I would now rate it an 8. (It lost 1 point from release, and had originally lost 1 point due to not completely finishing with skill balance) I think the way small guilds are treated is poor, but otherwise I’m still having lots of fun.
Yes this skill is so bad without any purpose. It is worse than most racial skills. I like the energy here everyone. Keep it up. It is sad that the best reason I’ve heard about this skill being so lackluster is so that engineers don’t get stronger due to elixir X. Which is supposed to fail half the time.
Something not talked about a lot is that the Sylvari were made by Mordy. Given that case and that they focused so heavily and played such an important role in destroying Zaitan, we should conclude that Mordy wanted to destroy Zaitan. If this is the case, it is logical to assume that there is only so much magic in Tyria and the dragons are competing for it. Did Mordy do all this, just to be destroyed. Maybe there was another power at work. Maybe the exalted are servants of another dragon, and they tricked you and helped you destroy Mordy. If that is the case, I feel we’ll end up in a strange and repetitive story. I would much rather Mordy having a greater plan. When I fell off a cliff and died in the jungle and fell onto the weirdest ground I’ve ever seen, only to learn that it was Mordy, I realized this dragon would not be easy to kill. If it was this easy, I’d be disappointed. We shall probably find out more sometime next year. I’m guessing season 4 comes out in january sometime.
Function Gyro is very useful in pvp. Otherwise, it is lackluster.
I’m glad to see how ridiculous some people consider this ability. Hopefully if we keep this thread alive long enough, a dev will take interest in buffing the ability to what it deserves.
The reason it was forced is that Mordy forced you to charge in. His spread was vast but weak, he had to lure in our forces and destroy them, but once he did, he knew that was it. Since he is fused with the jungle movement is kind of hard. So his plan when he sensed that you have become corrupted by lay line energy is to trick you into thinking you’ve won and subtly confuse you in the future to compromise the security of Tyria. You yourself become the “villain” and you have to work tirelessly in season 4 to make up for your mistake. With Trahearn gone, you now control the largest army in Tyria. Once you’ve rebuilt, I’m sure something will go even worse than having the whole forward army get obliterated. The rata novus research will indicate that the dragon is probably alive, but the pc won’t believe it right away. (Due to Mordy subtly influencing your thoughts)
If I’m wrong, then this was a weird ending, but I still can’t believe that, it would make almost no sense. I mean just look at Scarlet, everyone when she was around thought she was some random sicko. Everyone was like: “Scarlet did it because she is CRAZY”. But they were building a much bigger plot. I’m sure we’ll find this is leading u to something big.
I also believe Mordy is alive and well. They set up an obvious trap, got us to kill Saladkitten. I really think the story is only beginning with HoT. I could be wrong and it would be very disappointing, but I have a feeling well be seeing more Mordy and Trahearn. I mean it couldn’t of been this easy, when you realize you are literally standing on the elder dragon in all the zones. He is huge, and fighting him shouldn’t be so simple as attacking his mind. What happnes to all the magic he ate? I really really doubt the story will just continue like nothing happened, and we are searching for another elder dragon. Expect at least another season of Mordy.
This skill is useless! Like what are you thinking A-Net? Please remember to buff this skill next time you do a balance pass. Make it reflect projectiles, BAM, an okayish skill finally. As it stands, you are vulnerable to melee (with stab) and vulnerable to range, to aoe, to everything. Here is how our elite skills should breakdown:
Glyph: Utility + 1v1 potential
FGs: Mobility (feel free to increase this) + some damage (hybrid)
Rebound: Support
Tornado: Defensive cooldown. (Currently, this is simply turn into a giant target and knock a few players back before you die)
Give Tornado its purpose. Once you nerfed the ability to cancel ability buffing, this skill has had no purpose.
Lastly, the mobility of FGs was greatly nerfed following the movement skills change. Could you also look into increasing the distance traveled by a couple hundred yards? Also, give Rebound a 1s invul on proc. With those simple changes, our elites would be up to par.
Terrible suggestion. Please make overloads grant stability by default. And fix warhorn before any other changes.
Endless Trahearn gathering tool. Says some of his boring speeches during gathering.
“We do this together”
“This is my wild hunt”
“Commander, to me”
“I am no soldier”
“Mordemoth calls to me”
“This plant looks like my cousin”
etc.
I’d buy it, especially if when you gathered you had a chance at “ruined plant parts” as a memento to Trahearn.
[Spoiler Alert]A grand funeral[Spoiler Alert]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Loboling.5293
Viking funeral… napalm the whole jungle. It’s what Traherne would have wanted.
I agree with this. First thing he did when entering the jungle was declare war on all things living there. Let’s finish what he started and burn down the jungle. I am playing an elementalist, so I don’t mind bringing the fire, I just need a few mesmers to convince the frog people to stay in their homes, and some guardians to protect me while I work my magic.
The skill is pretty weak, but it actually saved my life once. The skill should also make you invulnerable for 1 second on triggering. Leave the heal the same. If that is viewed as too strong, which is isn’t, then just double the heal.
I also sometimes get hate or the good old: “Guaranteed Loss” right at the start of the game, when I try and inform people of my build and playstyle so that we can work together better. So much lol. I think meta battle is useful for those who are new to get a working build.
You get them automatically with any track, as far as I can tell. They are like an additional reward on top of the previous rewards. I’m not sure of the quantity, but I get about 2 per game.
I can agree with a 10 second channel return to base button for stronghold. I havent actually felt like playing this mode yet since BW2. So maybe it is more interesting now.
MO WAITIN! NERF NOAW111
My good, yu bAD. scrap = nerf chron = nerf kitten r = nerf draghun = nerf.
Tank Yu.
I do Storm Man, he pine. But Give invisible like spooky man.
Pls no Ban.
I also want to say that the pvp in gw2 is very fun and feels fair. I often lose when my team can’t pull it together like the enemy team can. Close games are extremely satisfying.
I often compare gw2 to counterstrike. I know the games have a lot of differences, but it feels like a real twitch based game with an MMO shell. Honestly, best pvp mmo out today. I end maybe 1 out of 4 games with my heart pounding and often those matches, I am so focused and submersed, I love it. 2 out of 4 games are less close, but it usually gets decided within the first 5 minutes, and 1 out of 4 games are faceroll. (one way or the other)
So based on my experience, you can expect 1 amazing game out of 4, 1 crappy game with people giving up and 2 games that are sort of close, but one team simply pulls ahead and takes control of the game. (You’ll have some fun, but nothing like the close games)
Overall, I love the great games, I can stand the mediocre games, and don’t mind faceroll as long as its my team winning the match. XD You’ll really only know by playing and learning. The skill floor is pretty high though, so try and find a good hotjoin server to practice some of the basics before trying ranked/unranked. And don’t be discouraged by some players that can kill you in seconds, you’ll learn to counter them and it won’t feel so lopsided in a few months. When I started playing, I only rolled bunkers to not get destroyed right away, but there were still players that could shred me. Now, I usually walk around a match (win or lose) with my head high and destroying kitten myself.
Good luck, and I hope you get into the game.
Well, Hammer doesn’t offer much range damage, so it means you have to compensate for that in other ways with your build. It brings a tradeoff, and what you get is a solid melee weapon with the first auto-attack almost worth using for engineer. I had ran a hammer flamethrower build, and got rekt by a trapper DH. So, it gives you a lot of strengths, and for sustain builds it is probably stronger, but I felt base engineer was better for damage.
Like the thiefs. Assassins class which cant actually kill anybody. Why not call him a “Runner”?
We’ll they did start by giving them running shoes for their elite specialization icon.
I agree that the first set of balance changes should’ve come at least 1 month into the expac. This wackamole balancing is silly. Please let people get used to the new mechanics, etc and then balance accordingly.
I hope we get spear and trident, they suit the revenant better than harpoon gun. However, I am not at all optimistic that the devs will add another weapon to the class. Since that never happened to any of the other classes after release. This should of been brought up more before launch, but oh well.
I would like to see this cooldown lowered to 3 seconds or even better, make this ability a 0 second cast time. With a cast time of 0 seconds, the biggest issue with this change imo (being interupted by a mesmer with power block or thief with distracting daggers and getting a 15 second cooldown).
More than anything, I hope a diablog with the devs happens to determine the cause of the nerf. I was about to make myself a revenant, but this nerf is pretty disappointing. Not the end of the world, but I can’t imagine enough testing has been done to conclude this ability was too strong for the legend.
I really like the idea suggested to have the effect around you when the tablet is not summoned, but located at the tablet once you summon it with skill 6.
This way the player can choose to either summon the tablet and not change any mechanics from present or not summon the tablet and become the epicenter for the abilities. Becoming the center for the spells would be a nerf for a lot of traits, but it gives the players extra options without granting any extra strength to the legend.
Super great idea, please implement this.
Wow that is surprising. They should definitely make all legends work underwater.
This is reminding me of turret engineer all over again. A spec that focuses on positioning and placing their damage in a specific location. Lacks mobility, and can be easily focused from range.
I really found turret engineer fine back in the day. And I think the nerfs to them were too extreme (see how they do not exist in any match anymore). I really hope they don’t get rid of trap dragonhunters. I agree that they have some strengths that aren’t always easy to deal with, but they also have weaknesses. I think they are balanced. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t even have a guardian on my account. I found the playstyle crippling on BW3, I’m not a fan of the design and felt weak as a DH. Fighting them so far has been fairly easy, minus a few slip-ups. I also like that I can use my allies traps as cover from enemy thieves and mesmers. I think it made a great addition to the game for those that want to play a direct damage trapper.
Seeing that OP has breached CoC and comparing apples with oranges, it is clear that he won’t be responsible enough to read our points or come up with a solid argument.
Am I the only one that found this comment amusing?
I doubt anyone with a breached CoC could be considered responsible.
I do think that scaling in the new zone is off. I find myself having a way easier time solo on my daredevil. As soon as a group of players show up, it takes way too long to kill mobs. I am fine with the damage scaling since you can more easily get a rez from the “zerg”, but the health scaling seems too extreme for regular mobs. I fought a raptor (normal size) for about 3 minutes before killing it, because above me there was an event with a lot of players. I thought I was bugged before realizing what was happening.
I like the challenge, but I don’t want to dread the arrival of other players.
Ya this is either an oversight, or a really bad decision. I have sold every drop onto the AH immediately due to not wanting to carry extra stuff like this. It is flat out nonsense to not have collectibles go into the collectible storage. Please change this soon.
Glad to see they are making this adjustment to help ease some peoples frustration. This won’t make the expansion any less fun for me, as I got to experience it, and now I probably would prefer a slightly easier repeat. Especially for new characters.
I hope this comes out soon, as you have partially sapped my desire to try for my elite skill on my daredevil. I think I’ll just pvp until the update. XD.
I run a staff build with thief, but my staff auto are lava fonts…LAVA FONTS!!! My number 2 is a meteor shower on a 5 second cooldown, without the channel time. I defeated mordremoth in under 2 seconds. Thief is easy mode. Could everyone do me a favor and play the other classes so I can enjoy this by myself.
It has to me. If you are looking for a continuation to the story. You are looking for harder content. You are looking for more reasons to team up in the open world. You are looking for an alternative way to play your profession. If yes to these things, it will probably be worth it for you.
I’ve been really enjoying the expansion. I hope you realize that other people can like different things than you OP.
I find HoT fun. And I like that Mastery is endgame progression. Players will take months to max it all. However, I suppose a good argument can be made for the fact that you have to play in the new maps to earn mastery points, which means less diversity. (HoT mastery I mean) I think they should simply have one mastery and have the bonuses tied to specific maps. I don’t want to feel like my desired progression stops cause I want to play with friends who don’t own HoT.
The expansion has some flaws, but it does so many things right imo. I couldn’t of expected any better. I’d give it a 9. However, opinions differ. Also, I do not work for A-Net. I work as a scientist, conducing research on environmental technologies, and help develop their processes. I simply enjoy gaming as a pass time. And HoT is far from boring so far. Lastly, I haven’t lost anything from this expansion. I sued to mostly pvp, now I stopped that for a short while to enjoy the story. At most, I had to wait an hour before continuing my story when I accidentally leveled the wrong mastery. But I’ve only gained from this expansion and it was totally worth the cost already.
I also think these guys are properly tuned. No need for change.
Base thief could use some work. However, I feel competitive with the daredevil. I think mostly, a few changes I would implement:
1) Dagger skill 4 applies 1 stack of torment for 3 seconds on each bounce.
2) Dagger skill 5 applied blind in an aoe radius.
3) Fix some useless traits in acro and shadow arts. These two trees need the most work.
Otherwise, I can’t think of much that would not require nerfing other aspects of the Thief that I really enjoy.
I agree, thief seems to be in a good standing. Not too strong, but not overly weak. The Thief is an interesting class, and I’m really excited for getting rifle with the next elite spec. Please Devs.
Otherwise, the elite has its uses in pve, but not as much as pvp.
I want to make clear that I am impartial to the animation. I see what they tried to do, and can see how it can be a little strange, but I’m not for spending too much time working on something that works fine. If they decide to do anything it would be to make the shifts look cooler (either mist, or my favorite, disappear and reappear). Don’t waste any time here, unless you are going to make it look even cooler. XD
I rerolled from engie to Thief. I also played a mesmer in preperation for expansion, but didn’t want to hunt hero points on my mesmer, so I went in to the jungle as a Thief.
Having fun so far.
It is funny get caught in the traps on a thief. It happened to me for the first time, I dodged into the trap cluster, but the elite cancelled my dodge and I got wtpwned. Once, I understood his playstyle, I countered and was literally spawn camping the DH. I don’t think this needs much looking into, but time will tell.
I actually died to my first DH trap-ball. I tried to use roll for initiative to escape the cluster, and even though it broke stun, the elite trap pulled me back in. I lol’ed and died. Following, I went and kill him with my pistols and never set foot on the traps. Then I spawn camped him and killed him about 3 times out of spawn. (Same weakness as turret engies) Once that was done, the enemy team lost their rythme, and sent someone back. After a big struggle our team came back from a 100 point deficit (200 vs 300) and won the match. Poor DH was obviously agitated by me sniping him down over and over, he didn’t seem to be able to play effectively after that.
Overall, I think there is plenty of counterplay to traps on DH. Strong in some situations, but those few situations are not worth the cost in pvp. I was fine with turret engies back in the day though, so maybe that’s just me.
I noticed this too and was surprised. I imagine it will grow on me, but a slight decrease the amplitude and frequency. Maybe instead of 3 spikes, a dodge only produces 2. I think they need to play a little with it internally and see how to best modify it. It is very spazy right now, but I’m thinking they were going for an anime look of moving really fast. Kind of like disappearing and reappearing.
Honestly, if they instead took that idea farther and had your character almost vanish for a split second with the dodge, I’d probably like it way more than BW3 one. Like you hope to one side, disappear, reappear on the other side, then again, and dodge done. But that sounds harder to code than simply decreasing the amplitude or frequency of the movement.
Yes, and don’t forget to help all those poor kitten who can’t stealth.
Honestly, at this point, I would be happy with 1200 range on dust strike. I’d want a smoke field or even a dark field, but the one thing I want most of all is more range. Please give this skill some good use.
I’m a little put off by this change. I was never the type to farm much, but EoTM was a fun place from time to time. I’m not sure what will come of that map now. Also all those players who stockpiled badges are going to have a never catch able gain on other players. I got 2k badge, while it seems nice for now, I know some players have 200k, etc. The currency didn’t mean anything before, and suddenly its valuable to some players and worth very little to others. Very strange change.
I haven’t been to the new maps, but its good to hear something positive about them. I always play a roamer on any class, so I’m hoping the new map will be fun for roaming.
I’ve done only about 10 pvp matches since the update (mesmer & thief), and I’ve yet to die or even feel pressured by a DH. I’m sure the traps hit hard, but I haven’t met any creative enough to trap me in one. I think people should get used to the new specs before calling for nerfs. I don’t even find Reaper too crazy. (I don’t play on organized teams though, and I know they get a crapton of sustain when they are supported)
I have only had a chance to play the daredevil, but I’d give the expansion a 9 so far. Could use some improvements, but it has so many things I like I couldn’t give it an 8.
Really enjoy the challenge and the feeling of progression is real. It really reminds me of an old school rpg. Can’t wait to finish unlocking my daredevil. I played almost all week-end without traits. XD Every hero challenge I grew stronger it was awesome.
I liked the scrapper circular gear. Not a fan of the current hammer or the new engie icon. I prefer both older ones. (elite and normal)
Luckily, I was a little let down by the engineer elite spec, to the point that I’m not sure how much I’ll play my engie in HoT, so it won’t bother me too much.
I still haven`t lost a game on my thief since the expansion. I`ve only won 3 times though…. Either way unless there was an MMR reset, Daredevil seems strong. I’ve been player a zerker build (13k hp with wurm runes) and barely die. It is very fast paced and fun. I actually won my last game paired with another thief. We only won by 8 points and kills at the end, it was beautiful come back (we decapped everything and killed our way from a 30 points behind).
I think if you like Thief, you will probably enjoy the daredevil. If you felt Thief was underwhelming, you probably won’t feel very different now. The Daredevil is every bit as twitch focused as the Thief. You need to be on the ball all the time and one mistake can kill you. But it feels a little like playing old school Vindictus at times on my old Lann.
Fast paced and has strengths. I think the daredevil elite spec is wonderfully done; one of the more balanced elites. It doesn’t feel stronger per se than normal traitlines, but it is specialized and works really well for what it does. I am so excited for the sniper elite spec coming next (fingers crossed)
The only one that i think is truly hard so far is the one with the Balthazar champion, other than that you only really need a couple more people (which are not hard to find) to finish.
And you’re forgetting the fact that the new hero challenges gives 10 points instead of 1, you don’t expect ANet to just hand them to you do you??
LOL, I had a funny experience at the Balthazar one. I went in with a warrior and stealth us both up with a shadow refuge, I go to grab the point and for some reason he accidentally hits 1 and aggros the boss. He dies quickly, but it interrupts my channel, I had to jump around like a mad man for a minute until shadow refuge came back off cooldown to get the hero point. Was fun, I can only imagine the frustration for that warrior that can`t stealth. It seemed really hard, and for a thief, not worth even trying.
