Go to gwskills.net and look up my flame juggernaut build. He can do over 60k damage in one hit. I once hit a boss for 100k.

That is not one hit……………………………………………..

Flamethrower auto is a continues hit that adds your damage up from the first hit to the last. It only resets if you stop attacking with AA for a second or 2.
If you use it on indestructible golems you can rack it up to the millions, does not mean your damage is that high.

IF you give up, you lose. If you don’t, you have a chance to do things better. Maybe you won’t win the match, but trying your hardest will often yield the best results over time.

I have a friend that likes the give up when things get sour, but just the other day I played a game where my team was losing and 1 player left. Down to 4v5, and our team turned it around and won the game. Behind 100 points, lose a player, and while the other team got lax, we got focused. Doesn’t happen often, but afking or quitting is poor attitude in group activities.

My father got to see me playing the other day for the first time, I was doing some pvp, and he was shocked how focused I was. I thought it was kind of funny, but if you decide you don’t care about your teammates, you’ve already lost half the battle.

My first set of data is as follows:

Total uses of Elixir X: 14
Tornadoes: 7
Rampage: 7

Hopefully, others can contribute. Even though, I managed to run gw2 at work in the background and only press 0 once every few minutes, I don’t have the patience for more than that. Hopefully others can bring in some data, but it looks fine to me. I actually had tornado in the lead up until the end, where rampage evened out.

This was all done sitting in hotm, without doing or pressing anything other than my elite button, so if there is a bug related to other skills, this methodology would miss it.

Yes, I noticed this right after it was brought up, got 4 tornados in a row in hotm. Following, I logged on a couple days later, and got 2 rampages in a row.

I’m not sure if something is wrong. I think, as boring as it sounds, someone needs to conduct a larger test. Maybe to save time, we could have lots of engineers deliver their data to this thread, add everything up for a larger sample size. I would exclude mine to the count, but maybe when I get home I’ll try and do something like 10 transformations, and return with the results.

Karl is a noob with elementalist it seems, watching Grouch, he made it look awesome. Watch the video. It wasn’t OP, but it showed some of the potential of the spec. It seems to have a lot of skill play to it and I think looks to be about a middle ground in terms of cpm (clicks per minute) between offhand dagger and focus. Offers tons of support, and during one play he got quickness, and well, with him passing his buffs along with +2 seconds, it is the elementalist boon bot. Funny enough though, he didn’t bother with a single shout, which is to be expected, but his auto cc cleanse shout was traited, which I guess gave him 1 shout. Either way, looks to bring some slight changes that may have big ramifications.

Yes, this seemed like an important part of what made engineers viable in zergs. Aoe condition cleanse by using 4 →1 with mortar. But it doesn’t work. At least the chill and poison one seem to work. Jumping Puzzles

Loboling.5293

I hope there’s no jumping puzzles (I hate them), but I’m guessing there will be a few.

That is a little strange to say. Can you really hate them so much you don’t want other players to be able to participate in activities they enjoy, in this instance, jumping puzzles? I mean, I hate mushrooms, but I don’t want people to stop cooking with them, I just don’t want to eat them. If what you mean is that you hate the small semi"jumping puzzles" that lead to some vista or poi, I can understand; however a real jumping puzzle has no impact on other players who do not participate in them.

I’d like to mention that jumping puzzles are a big part of why I bought this game originally. (I couldn’t stand not jumping in gw1) I love them, and hope they have quite a few hidden around the new areas.

Sigils of Air and Fire stealth nerfed

Loboling.5293

A test with 30 samples gave coefficients of 0.635 (fire) and 0.823 (air). Previous coefficients were 0.85 and 1.1, so these are very close to a 25% damage reduction. I suspect the true values are probably 0.6375 and 0.825 for the exact 25% reduction.

Thanks for conducted this test. My engineer will have to re-explore his sigils. I believe this pushes 5% damage ahead in sustain for pvp. Although, I always found that sigil boring. I did notice my sd engineer was having more trouble bursting Mesmers yesterday.. I hope I can find a way to make zerker engineer work.

I really like the ability, and I don’t think it needs a buff. I trait my mortar kit in my build, and the double orbital strike when you pull it off feels nice. Maybe boost its damage if anything, but I like the slow tell and big hits. You have to set it up usually with an immobilize or knockback, but its nice.

Should probably hit as hard as elementalist pheonix to feel good (when you trait for double effect). Overall though, its a fun ability that usually helps me control mid fights a bit more.

Engineer or Elementalist for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Solo roaming is not dead. I find both classes enjoyable, currently elementalist has more that it can offer that is desired. However, the engineer is not a bad class, but it is less versatile in combat, and more versatile out of combat. (easier to switch roles)

I’d say an engineer is almost like a hybrid ele/ranger without the pet. Lots of planning goes into your builds, and you have to specialize and really think about how to round off your build. With the ele, you always have access to tons, but you won’t be able to stray from that 1-2 builds.

Issues facing the Engineer in PvP

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Engineer right now could use some small buffs, but I think most of their problems come from two things. (outside of overtuned mes/ele)

1) Engineer is still full of bugs since the update. (bomb radius, projectile finisher not cleansing without an enemy (mortar), weird skill queue with static discharge, pistol 1 not an explosive, automatic bomb dispenser is not currently dropping the intended bomb, just a blind that ticks twice, etc.)

2) There is still a lot of work to bring engineer traits up to speed. Previously, engineer was one of the most versatile classes, which means their traits and utilities had a lot of variability. They were one of they few successful professions with the old trait system. However, by decreasing choice, and removing a lot of options that existed previously, we have been weakened in many ways. A lot of options that existed previously, are gone. (pistol range, healing bombs, swiftness on kit without an added ability, old gadgeteer, turret damage, no F5 for racial elites, etc.)

We have a profession that is still months away from being ready for the recent changes. A lot of work has to be done to complete the update with the engineer. Bug fixes, trait adjustments, and inclusions of old traits.

I think the profession is still fun, and even viable for most things, but it feels incomplete with the recent update. It is too bad a lot of these bugs will take so long to tackle, and the adjustments I mentioned would require a similar level of dedication as when we got the trait revamp, which is unlikely.

Drone Speculation

Loboling.5293

Ya Mantras would be cool.

I’d like it to be considered build time, instead of channeling a mantra.

This would mean that you would be stationary when you build your bot, but to compensate, the charge time is much shorter.

So instead of chanelling for ~3 seconds with full movement, you’d end up constructing for 1 – 1.5 seconds, but be held in place. It seems counter initiative, but the drones could maybe last for more charges, but also get destroyed when you go downed. (Except the one drone that sacrifices itself to prevent you from going downed)

Loboling.5293

We’ll a couple complaints and jokes later and things have really degraded in this discussion. My initial comment, as pointed out by other players was a pun based on the ability name, and the previous complaint listed by the player previously. I hope I don’t upset the Dev’s with such non-sense, but if they are placed in a position of discussion with players, I’m sure they’ve seen worse than a bad pun.

On Topic:
I am really enjoying the new rifle range, and even though I’ve never been the biggest fan of pistols, I can see how some players want the added range and piercing. It won’t make engineer overpowered, and would allow some players to play builds that make good use of these attributes, hence increasing build diversity.

Thief celestial armor?

in Thief

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Celestial could work, but thieves have tons of active defense. They also happen to lack almost any passive defense (or it just sucks). So boosting your toughness and healing power at the expense of other stats hurts more than other professions. Also, very few theif weapons make good use of both condition and power damage. It is doable, and could even be viable for roaming and pve, but you’d have to put some energy into planning. I don’t have enough experience with thief since the update, but it used to be possible with p/d, d/d and shortbow. (if you go celestial, I suggest you have either your gear or trinkets more specialized. This way you will excel a little more at either power or condition damage.)

Good luck.

Also, please give mesmers and thieves perma stealth when ooc. These classes are balanced around killing everyone, so they should be able to engage on their whim when they can best achieve that goal.

So more fun for everyone with a simple change.

Funny enough, I started to look at turret as abilities rather than turrets. Just like the healing turret, which is used, overcharged and either blown or picked up.

Flame Turret: Smoke field, fire field and blast finisher.
Rifle Turret: surprise shot is good for some builds, it gives fury for 5 seconds with trait, blast finisher
Thumper Turret: Knockback (delay), blasts!! (3 I believe, but I haven’t tested since the update)
Net Turret: Crazy amounts of immobilize. And an on demand stun, and blast finisher.

I won’t go over healing turret, but with a water field and all the blast finishers engineers have, its easy to make good use of water fields.

The turrets can no longer be placed and serve much purpose. But, they are still just as good as additions to builds to getting access to specific utilities.

I will miss what turrets were. But, A-Net hates AI builds, so I pray to the 6 that our elite spec doesn’t get minions.

Why doesn't this game have overworld dueling?

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Dueling would be great, but I think for rp purposes, the downstate would have to be removed from dueling. Once a player goes down, he gets back up and the duel ends. The player who won the duel can now help rez his friend in a kind of gesture of helping someone up once you beat them.

People are actually leaving GW2 PvP

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I think the biggest reason for people leaving is being locked in the mist.

I have to agree with this. I don’t mind terribly sitting in the mists for a couple minutes (3-15), but any friends I’ve tried to get into this game can’t stand it. It seems terribly lame. Allow people to continue to play the game during queue. (especially those who think playing for an hour is long; to them, 15 minutes is a giant waste of time)

On topic,
I think that the balance is not terrible, except for some slight reduction in condition damage overall (~5%), and another 10% reduction in burning damage. Then Mesmers need to be toned down some. I think a slight decrease in stealth uptime, a decent decrease in burst (~20%), and maybe a slight tweak to how their stun mantra behaves with traits. I’m not super familiar with mesmer since the changes, but I fight them pretty fairly myself. I do find that it is sad to watch my teamates get destroyed in less than a second. While Mesmer’s don’t feel like they are overly overpowered, their style of damage pushes newer players out of the game. So lower their burst by a decent amount and try and give them some better sustain. (without stealth) Conditions feel a little too strong, another way to help with this is improve players self-condition cleansing. Just add some condition cleanse to underused skills.

Traps are back on the table.

in Engineer

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I see two possibilities:

1) Our Elite Spec give us weapon swap. If this is the case, all engineers will have a ranged weapon. Luring someone in with ranged, laying down some traps and crushing them would be a different play style.

2) We get some other mechanic, and are given either signets or mantras. It might even be minions. Regardless, it will offer some passive power/defense, with burst abilities.

I’m not sure which concept I prefer. However, I’m more inclined to believe that the flying bots were not part of the hammer skill set. So I’m more inclined to believe that number 2 is what is coming. Also engineer weapons don’t go well together. So it would be hard to make p/p & rifle work, etc. So weapon swap wouldn’t work well on this class.

Who actually enjoys this meta?

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I really like the new meta. It’s not my favorite. I preferred the meta right before it (cele meta). But I have a blast in pvp, but a few things need some adjustments. And before HoT since its taking too long. It is a little frustrating knowing that any changes they make will be rendered obsolete once HoT launches. Still, I have fun on my warrior, and elementalist. Thief is same old for the most part.

The biggest problem I have with the meta, is the abundance of mesmers. I don’t think they are super OP, but I hate fighting more than one mesmer at a time. Fighting 3 just makes me want to leave the point. Their mechanic, to produce copies of themselves becomes ridiculous when you have multiple mesmers that have made their characters look alike. I just would rather do somethign else than wack-a-mole. Luckily, 2-3 mesmers on a team is not that great, so eventually the trend will diminish. Also, once the balance changes come in, I’m sure we’ll see less mesmers.

I like fighting them 1v1 or 2v2 (1 enemy mes). Again, they don’t feel super OP, just frustrating. A few small nerfs (PU) would decrease the quantity, but not change the quality of mesmers.

Otherwise, no class feels impossible to beat, and due to the more rapid nature of fights, it often comes down to skill more than anything, which I enjoy.

Edit: Decrease burning damage by about 20%-40%.

Class to play after the patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Hi there,

There will probably be a balance pass within a few months. If you are fine with the possibility that the balance pass will drastically nerf your character, then feel free to try some of the OP builds of certain classes. Almost no class (Mes) has gotten outright stronger, it is just that traits have been much improved, so a lot of synergy exists that is skyrocketing damage. So the classes that have builds that are strongest to weakest in the current “meta” are as follow: (in my opinion)

-Mes (actually a few builds are quite strong, so when the nerf hits it will probably affect many builds)
-Ele (mostly same old here, it is a fun classes that has great sustain with a celestial amulet)
-Warrior (Build is not OP, but it has great trait synergy, and rampage can drop someone who is caught with their pants down. It is great to seal the deal on fights, but when this is nerfed, the build could get further nerfs making warrior suck XD)
-Guard (Burning and bunker builds are both solid, guard may get its condi builds almost removed, if anet nerfs them on top of nerfing burning as a whole)
-Necro (Necromancer are a weird class, they can be pretty good at 1v1, and I’d say are the masters of hard counter. Their builds often either dominate another, or get destroyed by it. I knew my shout warrior has condi necro 1v1 for getting me to forget to scream, and drop shouts for the time being)
-Engineer/Thief (Niche currently, can be effective, but not like they used to be.
-Ranger (Has some solid roaming builds, but sucks pretty hard in pvp)

This was all in accordance with pvp and wvw. I think with things changing soon, it would be better to play around with a class you are interested in. A-Net is often heavy with nerfs, but it is not guaranteed.

Honestly, if you want to avoid frustration, you can probably avoid the thief, ranger, and engineer for the time being. The Necro only play if you like imbalanced matchups. Otherwise all classes have solid builds that allow them to feel competitive and fun.

How's Warrior for PvP & WvW?

I’m having a lot of success with a zerker stance build in pvp. Feels a bit like playing a ninja, as it all comes down to poping your skills at the right times for great effect, or no effect.

When I get home I’ll link the build, but there is a build very similar on meta battle, except instead of hammer I use rifle, which lets me win almost any 1v1, by kiting.

In WvW, I’m actually having the most success with a gs sw/sh build. Can handle quite a bit, and run when it cant. It has way more damage than the old weapon set, and I just soled a mes without taking almost any damage on this build. (Just after poping all my cooldowns on a camp) But it comes down to twitch play like a lot of gw2, so the build doesn’t give you the cookie.

Edit: Here is my pvp build.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJAQJARUnUJClhgVhAehAkighigCX9WIFsB4BCAtLi+oA-TZBFwACuAAJOEAt2foaZAAPBAA

The wvw build is a little different (2.6k armor, 20k hp) and I also used sw/sh over rifle for roaming, as the disengages really help. I also try to make great use of the mobility in combat for positioning. Surprise someone with quickness, but before they escape hit them with a quick finishing strike. You have two moves in his set that hit like trucks when the enemy falls below 50%. Once you get someone low, you should start to pull ahead. Try and play mind games with defiant stance, you deal bonus damage during (might), so go full offense and look like you have just thrown caution to the wind. Also, never pop it when you get too low, you;ll end up triggering endure pain, and take no damage, so heal for nothing. Good luck, warrior is lots of fun, and very offensive focused with these builds. It is all about pressuring your oponents to make mistakes. Better players become much harder than most fodder you’ll fight.
