Mesmer vs Engineer

Hey everyone,

I tried making a thread in the mesmer forums, but wasn’t getting any responses, so I figured rather than overload people with questions, that I’d break them down into smaller threads, so here is my first.

I’m currently playing as an engineer, and while I love the build diversity, I feel some of their coolest utilities aren’t as viable, and the visuals are lacking. (my favorite skill is rocket boots, but when I add that to my build, it just subtracts from the overall strength of the character)

I’m looking to make a mesmer (I currently have a level 29 mes), but I’ve always felt weak as mesmer. I tried pvp and got destroyed, and while fun killing mobs in pve, I found there to be too much downtime between bursts. (unlike static discharge rifle turret, which lets me 1 shot a mob every 7 seconds, on top of my other skills) With clones disappearing between creatures, I find I can’t get a good rhythm for leveling and map completion. I’m willing to tough it out to max level (got 40+ tomes), but I want to know what I’m missing about the class that would make it a viable main.

I like to play 1 profession at a time (usually for a couple months at a time), and am thinking of switching to mesmser. I don’t want to get bored, and I like build diversity, which is why I’m playing engineer now. (previous mains include: ele, thief and ranger)

Thanks a bunch.

Cloning Mains

Hi there,

I’m a longtime player of gw2 (6 months after release). I’ve mained thief (was very fun, but felt limited in build diversity). I tried elementalist and loved it, but felt crippled by the low hp, forcing me to take certain traits and utilities to compete. (so again, although not as much, felt limited in build diversity) I played a ranger, and loved the diversity, but each build felt shallow and too easy to “master”. I’ve played engineer, which has in my opinion the most build diversity. I love trying various builds, and the challenge in learning to play them optimally. This is where I stand now, but I feel like the visuals of the class are lacking. And some of my favorite utilities are garbage for competitive play (rocket boots).

I usually prefer direct damage focused builds on all classes (fresh air ele, d/d thief, s/d engie, ranger is a cleric melee build) I’ve tried mesmser a bit, with varying success. I got to level 29 and had some good moments, but often feel I have to wait too long before delivering another “punch”, which meant leveling was a chore. (and map completion) I tried pvp on a mesmer, and was destroyed… XD I think its a class you need to learn from the ground up. I’m considering trying to main mesmer. (I always use the name Loboling on my main, and the same look) I just feel that I know very little about the profession. I’m going to try and pvp a bit more and see if I can get a better feel for the class, but I’m worried that I’m missing something that would help me achieve success. On my engineer, I consider a good mesmer to be a giant thorn in my side for arena. Sure I can kill them, but they are very slippery and bring amazing utility to their team.

Anyone have some advice on how to approach this profession? Ways to get through pve faster? Builds that are fun for learning the ropes in pvp? Does mobility feel as lacking as guardian did? (reason I could never main guards was watching thieves dance around me, so I mained thief) Even if I could destroy most thieves, if I let them get away with a sliver of health, that was the last I’d see them. My favorite classes all have decent chase potential (elementalist fiery greatsword, ranger gs/sw, thief has so much, and engineer has rocket boots and elixir gun along with endless swiftness)

Sorry for such a big thread for some simple questions, but I wanted to get some background.

Thanks in advance.

TLDR: Each paragraph is divided, so if you dont want to read one, you can ignore it and not lose much. I’m looking to play mesmer, but don’t know much about them.

Whenever I don’t feel like running Grenade Kit, I use my Flamethrower build! Fury and might for everybody! I usually run Strength Runes but Scholar would work fine! It’s PvE! You can run anything! I play random builds all the time while pugging Fractals 50, the supposed end game PvE content, and it’s just a cakewalk every time regardless of my build! It’s sad really how much of a jokeskis PvE is! Anywhere here it is!

Wahoo! Bye frands!

This build works. EG and FT both have high damage abilities on low cooldown, and surprise shot +1 more blast finisher makes for some good extra damage with static discharge. Try it, it is very similar to what I run when trying to avoid nades.

Edit: I obviously switch speedy kits for static discharge.

Sadly, you rolled a engineer in the age of the engineer hate. People are going around insulting engineer players in an attempt to decrease the number of players who play engineer (already on of the least played). Don’t worry about it, for that situation a turret was a good call (hopefully rocket turret). There are a lot of ways to play the engineer and for world bosses, you can do almost anything. Grenades were another good call, so just let haters hate… XD Have fun, and continue to try all your varying utilities and explore the combinations.

Good luck, and welcome to one of the most flexible classes in gw2. (some builds are even really strong)

A PUG's guide against a turret engineer

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

The players that need the most help with turrets would likely get killed 1v1 against a single overcharged rocket turret. I don’t think your guide will go to much use. Strategy is something adaptive, and something people really need to learn themselves through experience. Quitters never win, so those who give up on finding a strategy to counter something that troubles them will never win, and they aren’t looking for help. (except from a-net to “buff Y and nerf X”.

Basically, turret engineers are strong 1v1, but most of their damage comes from stationary turrets. One of the basic tenants of strategy is always attack your opponents vulnerabilities and never expose yours. Due to the nature of 5v5, this principle is not something you only apply to yourself, but rather your actions should attack the vulnerability of your 5 enemies, while not exposing weaknesses of your team of 5. (People in this game often mention “not spreading yourself too thin”, which is a large part of what I just mentioned.)

When a turret engineer is sitting on a point, you know that the enemy has committed to defending that point. Your goal is to attack their weakpoints, while avoiding leaving your team open for a counter push. Usually, this weakpoint is not the node with the turret engineer, but sometimes it is. It is up to the player (or team if organized) to decide where he can best help his team at any given moment.

When a turret engineer or many force you to engage them, you have to continue to apply this rule through positioning. (where can I stand and take the least damage while also being able to damage the enemy) Luckily, turrets dont move, so when engaging you have the upper hand. However, there is also the issue of time. The longer you take to gain control of a point, the more points your enemy gains. So, as the OP states, if taking a point will take longer than the time to get reinforcements for your enemy, don’t bother. Luckily, turret engineers have no stunbreaks (unless they detonate their thumper turret), so knocking them off the point to decap every now and then can greatly diminish the enemies points tally. And this actions usually only takes 5-20 seconds. Then you can hit a nearby point. Sometimes pressuring a point and not trying to take it is a good strategy, but again its time dependent.

There is almost endless things to say on this, but I wish anyone luck if they struggle against any class.

I do find to get a lot of hate when playing my engineer lately (s/d or 3 kit), but when I play my elementalist, ranger or thief, I don’t find engineers overpowered. (celestial is very strong though 2-3 kit)

Specialization Time Frame

Hi A-Net,

This is a request to get a relative time frame for the release of information on specializations? I think a lot of people would love to know when their favorite class will get news on their specific specialization. If class information is going to continue to come in spurts, could you please tell us the order class information will come out? (mes->guard->engie? etc.)

I think people want to start to build some basic expectations about classes in Heart of Thorns. We know Engineers get hammers, and mesmers shield, etc but what about everyone else? Also, what are the new mechanics for each specialization? Super excited to find out, as I love this game.

Thanks in advance for anything you’re able to reveal.

Funny enough, so did I. But the suggestions on this thread for countering turrets are spot on.

Turrets aren't fun to fight.

Loboling.5293

I agree that mesmsers can make teamfights a dread. Turret engieers aren’t as bad due to the stationary nature of turrets. But fighting 10 players mid, and only 4 being real players is frustrating. 1v1 Mesmer isn’t bad, but they clutter the screen so I can’t target. Only options are mass aoe or moving los to funnel the clones. Luckily, mesmers aren’t a good profession to stack due to limited mobility and being squishy, so you’ll only usually encounter 1-2 a game.

Turrets are also annoying to fight on a point, but not as bad. They have even less mobility than mesmer, but they don’t go down easy. Taking out the rocket turrets cuts their damage in half for the next 50 seconds, which is important if forced to fight on turreted points. And it only takes 5-10 seconds. (unless you are a fearbomber, but then you should let your teamates take out the rocket, and rush in after to fear bomb the engie)

Some classes have more versatility in pvp allowing them to take on different roles depending on build. Here are the classes that could theoretically win as a stacked group.

Guardian
Elementalist
Engineer
Ranger
Warrior

These classes are more specialized
Necro
Mesmer
Thief

Good teams have mostly flexible classes with a few specialized classes. But, a team of all elementlist could win (1 staff burst, 1 s/f fresh air, 3 d/d cele), engineer (1 burst s/d, 2 cele, 2 turrets), guardian (1 bunker, 4 medi), Ranger (2 burst, 2 condi tank, 1 spirit), and warrior (3 shoutbow, 2 zerker)

Of course, some of those teams are better than others (guard is not super strong due to lacking mobility), but some classes are better suited to stacking.

Also, any game where teamates start bashing each other, regardless of the enemies, is a sure loss. I’ve never won a game with 1 player insulting others, its even harder than a 4v5. Team morality is important. I played a game where we were losing 300-100, but our team kept communicating, and turned it around, managed a three cap when enemy went for our lord, blocked lord rush and won. Getting stressed makes people play worse, and insults make a stressful game worse.

Hi there,

This is a request to improve how rich veins work. Currently, when mining a rich vein, your character will mine 3 times, and then stop, forcing you to restart mining for another 3 hwacks. This is done until the mineral is empty.

Suggestion:
Make our characters mine until the vein is empty. However many whacks that takes.

That is all, I hope this doesn’t turn out to be too hard, but its a minor thing that would allow the game to feel more fleshed out.

Thank you.

Help With Picking Class

in Players Helping Players

Loboling.5293

Thieves are mechanically simple (a little more complex than guards as you should try to make good use of fields and leap/blast finishers). They are also the fastest class in the game and I think one of the most important classes to roll if you want to get better at pvp. Understanding thieves is very important when fighting thieves. (mesmer too, but I found it easier to understand mesmer as a thief; my first character and longest main) Its lots of fun, and there are some decent build diversity (about on par with guard).

Give it a shot in pvp, and see how you like it. Otherwise, ranger is even simpler mechanically, and very fun. But I think theorycrafters enjoy ranger more than anyone. I loved planning builds, etc on my ranger, but for me, like guardian, I got bored eventually.

I grew tired of thieves, as I wanted a main that could build tanky if I wanted. thieves are very hard to kill (or die as) if they are on their toes, but almost all builds are pretty squishy when you are feeling lazy. (unlike ranger)

Rangers have to deal with a pet though, which is where a lot of the difficulty comes in. You can ignore it mostly though, but if you want to play at the top of your game, you’ll need to start playing with the pet. Still easier than making careful use of smoke fields.

This is my favorite build with ranger, but its a little harder to master than most ranger builds. (however when you do you become invincible)

Engineer is a class that can also be fast, but most of their stronger builds are more complex. However, you can build some simpler builds and they preform quite well. This class has the most diversity among the classes. I currently main this class and play a very simple, yet strategically complex build.

here is the build:

Warrior or Mesmer?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Hi Falarid,

Both classes are mechanically very different. I suggest you try them in heart of the mists (there is a portal in lions arch if you haven’t unlocked the UI yet).

Mesmer are slippery and fluid, warriors are strong and tanky. I’d say that once you can beat svanir or chieftain in that zone (boss mobs in the zone that are close to the waypoint in the zone) you’ll have a decent feel for the classes. Killing the enemy player npcs is a little too easy to get a solid feel on the class.

Good luck, also don’t be afraid to ask where the boss mobs or portal into the heart of the mists is, its extremely helpful for deciding on what class you want to play.

If you put yourself in a position to be 2v1, that is called failing. Of course you should lose 2v1, positioning is very important in this game. Players holding a point however are often forced into that position due to the nature of the role.

I’m no pro, but I apply the same self improving philosophy to the game as I do in life. I’m not going to just give up due to an enemy having many advantages over me, I’ll search for my own advantages and their weakness.

But again, its a team game, but if people are curious about how to kill turret engineers 1v1, just add me. If you want to play a few games with me, to see how I deal with turret engies in arena, add me as well. I’m more than happy to help. I find this game to have decent balance, better than most mmos. Depending on how you build yourself you always give something up to get something. Its a good design. Turret engineers give up their mobility, and team fight pressure, and if your makeup is right, you can even spawn kill the turret engineer a few times in the game.

Again, I’m more than happy to play a few games, even if it will drop my rating (not that is matters much this season). I’m 32-29 so far on my no kit-no condi removal build in ranked. All queued solo (minus a few games with my gf; but she is not very good and we lost 2/3 games)

Good players that communicate still beat multiple turret engis every time. It is about communication and proper rations.

This.

I don’t play turret engie except the occasional game of unranked. I find having many enemy turret engineers to be to my teams advantage. My build is a burst s/d build, so I’ll usually pop the rocket turret during 2v1 or 2v2. to reduce the pressure, then focus the engie. (Also, when I play turret engie, I play with zerker amulet, cause why not XD)

Turrets suck for teamfights, so more of them is just stacking the odds in our favor. Also, I want to mention that there are many varieties of turret builds. The one everyone has a problem with are the boonspam, tanky, high damage turret build. Reflection turret builds, and zerker turret builds are not even OP in 1v1, but bring more to teamfights.

Good luck with nerfing turrets, but if you are up for it. Add me in game, I’ll show you how to 1v1 a turret player, even though that is an almost irrelevant point in 5v5 against turrets. Their major counters are poor mobility, static damage, and long cooldowns before they can even use their utilities when they died. (meaning you can spawn camp a turret engie really easy, since all his turret don’t come off cooldown for 10-30 seconds after respawning) If your build isn’t terrible, you should have some strategy with it that you focus on in games. Play your strengths, and don’t fight fair fights. Arena is not dueling, it’s digital war.

Edit: I thought I’d mention I am not addressing the OP, but rather anyone who thinks turrets are OP.

I’m having a lot of success with this build. I made a thread about it. I called it “the no kit, no condi removal engineer”. I won’t go over too heavily how it plays, just read my other thread, but its basically a counter roaming for thieves and mesmers. Hang back, and only run in for the kill. Also, your heal is a last resort, use rocket boosts often to gain the positional advantage. You will die fast if you are not in the right spot. But catching a d/p thief leaping through a smoke field with reveal or preventing a shadowrefuge save with reveal are big plays in team fights. Don’t run off alone, unless you know you can handle enemy roamers (not likely against good teams as they will travel in groups).

Good luck, and have fun playing the shotgun ninja.

in PvP

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I ask that the devs remove class X. I tried to fight them and they are way too strong. No class should be that strong at 1v1. Even when I’m with my teammates, this player beat all three of us without even trying. Clearly the build is too strong, but the issue persists with class X. Any build for class X is stronger than other meta builds. I’ve mastered my class and can easily steamroll all other classes, except class X. Nerf PLZ.

On that note, anyone notice how many people are playing class X. It seems every game has one, sometimes more. I keep hearing “pros” saying how this build has counters, but I know all those players are actually playing class X and don’t want to be nerfed. If removing a class is too hard, just remove all the OP abilities from that class in pvp. All of them… No reason someone should be able to roll his face on his keyboard and beat me. (one of the best players in the game) I don’t have any room to grow as a player, so this change needs to happen to achieve balance in this game. DONT YOU WANT PVP TO BECOME AN ESPORT?!?!?!?! That will never happen as long as class X exists.

Why do people get mad...

in Thief

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Because there is no counterplay to stealth.

My Engie build rolles over mesmsers and thieves in teamfights. Being able to reveal them is a great counter. The other is having experience with the classes. Most of the time, I can chase invisible enemies and still be right on top of them when they reappear. It just takes practice to know which way the player is moving. Some thieves are too good to keep up with, due to their insane mobility, but that is not just stealth related. If thief goes stealth near you, get rdy for a backstab, if you get him low and he stealths, move towards where you’d move if you were him and running for it.

Also, backstab does poor damage from the front, so try to face him. And don’t hold a single orientation for too long, you become backstab bait. Basically, thieves and mesmers are like skelk, you don’t stop attacking when they go invisible, you lay down the hurt. Players sometimes do fancy maneuvers, but if he had to blow a shadowstep to get behind you, its only fair you’d have to blow abilities to counter. (you can also see the white circle appear)

Good luck.

Thanks for making a thread with this, although I think it will fit better in the Living Story section of the forums. I posted something similar about a year ago, and again a couple hours ago in a thread about a new player wondering what happened to season 1.

Here is my post from the other thread:

I had made this suggestion when megaservers first came out. (Actually, I was certain this was A-Net’s Plan) But since they either haven’t considered this or for some reason find it non feasible (I’m curious why), here is my suggestion.
Using your megaserver tech, divide some instances of each zone into previous states from Living World Season 1.
Example: Player A decides he wants to participate in the tower of nightmares. He activates that part of his living world story, and the game will tell him to head over to Kessex Hills to help uncover the mysteries of this giant tower unleashing toxic spores, killing the wildlife. When the player gets to Kessex Hills, he doesn’t enter the same instance as other players doing their personal story or simply visiting the zone. He is placed into a server with other players who have activated this step of the living world story.
That is the bulk of it. I’m sure A-Net could group some of the steps together to avoid too many servers per zone, but it seems the tech is in place for players to enter different versions of a zone. And now all players can play season 1 without the hassle of trying to crop the story into 5 man instances.
If this gets no response, I may try and make a separate thread to get the Dev’s attention.

I hope they make this happen. Or at least comment on the idea.

Hi forum goers, Im new to this game and I was excited tonight doing my first ever dungeon in it I hit 35 and saw that it was open for me to try… I found a group for the Ascalonian catacombs(something like that) Story Mode that was accepting everyone so i figured that was a good one to try being a total noob. I joined the group and was having fun until the first story screen popped up which i wanted to watch… well when i got done with it , the group was gone. It apparently continued on without me leaving me in a place that i had never been I tried to figure out where they went and kept running into enemys. So i pretty much got to kill a boss i think and loot a chest … and not be able to enjoy the rest of the place either story or the loot from it because i was stuck alone lost. It kind of killed the experience for me that i was so excited for.

Im just wondering if this is a normal thing, if no one waits for their group members to finish watching the story scenes and just ditches them if they are watching them so they can not continue on with the group. Yea i know im a noob , or baddy or whatever else people would call me, but i though maybe people wouldnt just leave a group member behind lost and go on without them.

I want to try again in the dungeon but i have a feeling the same thing will happen… ill try to watch the story and just get ditched again. If you ask why i dont run it with friends… well im new here i know no one :p

Sorry for ranting or whatever I just want to know if this is the normal occurrence that i should expect trying to do a story mode dungeon

I had worse, I watched the intro cutscene during a story mode all welcome party. When it finished, my group had stealthed through most of the dungeon to the next boss… It took me like 10 minutes to get through the hordes of enemies. My team was so surprised when I showed up. “How did you get here?” I was so kittened after dying 10 times, that I didn’t feel up to rezzing anyone when they downed. Ruined experience. Rule is, people do different things. Just hope you find a good group, or mention at the start that you are new and are going to watch cutscences, its possible someone would wait for you to guide you to the next part.

Good luck for future dungeons.

I like how the people who say turret engi isn’t overpowered just say “Oh yeah, just play with a 5 stack of skilled players and outrotate him and coordinate all your movements around the map”

The fact that turret engineers forcibly require that when no other class does makes them overpowered. Denying that is nothing short of delusional.

Actually people do this for all classes. People don’t leave points unattended because thieves will just roll in and decap if you aren’t careful. People will try to move from points in teams of 2-3 so as to avoid getting ganked on the roads and to have the advantage in numbers during encounters. There are many examples of players adapting their playstyles to what enemies do. Someone loading up a point with turrets is a strategy, one that requires the reactions to counter said strategy. This reminds me of counterstrike when I learned that I have the advantage by holding a door rather than charging through. Make your enemies come to you in predictable ways. But that was a different game, and I don’t want to overly sidetrack the discussion.

Also, Arantheal gets it.

Turret engineers aren’t some indomitable monster hiding on the point.

They can’t single handedly kill any build that comes up against them. There very strong against what they provide counters for. But there pathetically weak against other situations. And they can EASILY be countered by extremely simple changes.

My ranger started taking a drake into PvP. I immediately stopped being worried about turret engineers. Simply because I could Pop SoTW and send in the drake to munch on the turrets while pelting the engi from afar. forcing him to abandon the point AND lose his turrets in the process. I can kill nearly any turret engi in the game in less that 20 seconds now on most points.

That was a VERY easy thing to do. And most classes have the capability of doing something similar (not I said most not all but then if EVERY class could counter(note I said counter NOT overcome) EVERY build completely the game would be a different pvp scene entirely)

The fact is that these are tradeoffs most people aren’t WILLING to make. Meaning there choosing to leave themselves open to these builds. And making forum posts about it when they pay the price.

Do I take this ability that will be very good in the fight against turret engis and give up something I would normally use on the rest of the game (drakes, glyph of storms, wells, reflects, hollowed ground etc..) or ignore it and accept that that build will probably hurt to fight. (holy crap that almost sounds like having to make a trade off. BALANCE)

you want a build that can absolutely hard counter a turret engineer? A concecration burn guardian. 6xxx6 with MoC stab on virtue of courage use and permeating wrath along with avenging wrath in the power line.

You now have a build that effectively stops ANYTHING the turret engi is known for. FORCING him to give the point to you for a time. And you can do it simply by pressing your utilities and spamming the one button with a greatsword.

You wouldn’t challenge a hambow without the ability to avoid/resist its stuns and expect to come out on top in the end. Why are you trying to do that with turret engineers?

Ya, I just had a game with a ranger who could easily 1v1 the turret engineer. He then sat between the points and made it his business to hunt down the poor engineer. I felt bad, as I remember being picked apart by good teams on my turret engineer. I hope this dies down soon, but until then I’ll continue to play my burst engie and have lots of fun.

Adapt, it is the only kind of strength in this world. Good luck.

I really hope the number of threads explaining how to take out turret engineers, the fact that pvp is 5v5 and not 1v1, helps people adapt to fighting them. If you think you need to engage 1v1 against a turret engineer you are doing it wrong.

I like that engineers have an easier build that isn’t as effective to play in ranked. If I’m tired one day, I want to be able to help my team more than when I’m too tired to play my favorite builds well. It is lower skill, but not none, and it adds more tactics to pvp not less.

If you think turrets are too strong, just play the build for a week.

It might be best to say that they should play the build against teams that have proper rotations and a firm grasp on that builds mechanics. As the build is designed to punish teams with poor rotations it does quite well against teams without communication. Of course. Against a team with proper rotations. The build is worthless. And I don’t mean partly worthless either. When a turret engineer is countered it is countered COMPLETELY. From that point on they have no impact on the fate of the match.

Which is entirely how deterrence builds work. Once their opponent has no need to be afraid of them. They stop working.

The thing is, if you play against teams with poor communication and win, you’ll move up to higher tiers and even a team of randoms (all I play) we understand how to deal with a turret engineer. If someone does try to solo a turret engineer, we tell him to stop and they usually do. Sure, if you just started pvping and you’re playing turret it will be stronger than many builds you could play, but that will stop after you win enough games. People (mostly) in higher tiers know that (even without communication) attacking a turret engineer 1v1 is silly, and they focus on playing the game as it is, a team game.

I like the idea. Although, I now end up making many of my characters look a certain way. I’ve found “my look”, but back when I started playing, I had the same issue. I’d create a character, enter game, and delete within a few minutes only to remake something almost identical with a slight change. I think will help newer players save time, and those veterans trying new races they haven’t explored before. Seems simple enough as well.

The fastest way to nerf turret engies

It’s sad how many players think turret’s are overpowered, and refuse to listen to people explaining their counters. It is true that they have some strengths, and one is being simpler to play, but that doesn’t make them a good build to play against organized teams that can easily exploit their weaknesses. What will actually happen, instead of nerfs, you will see people adapt to turrets. Stop charging points filled with turrets and attack the vulnerable points. This is the basics of tactics. Games don’t just lend to enjoyment, but teach us things as well. Use this as an opportunity to grow. If this game still had a “solo queue” I could see nerfing them slightly there. Unfortunately, since all modes can face teams, and communication is always an option via chat, nerfing turrets would push them out of existence.

Good luck.

With 2 turret engineers, the enemy team has limited mobility or limited stability. If the answer is limited mobility since they have necros, guards, etc. Group up and take the nodes one at a time. 5v3/4 will always be in your favor even if fighting on a node with a turret engie. If the oponents lack stability, but have decent roamers. Hope you have some decent decapers. If you can keep decaping a turret engineer, while using your other 4 players to hold the other 2 nodes, its another possible win, depending on the teams skill. Either way, turret engineer is strong, but limited in scope. Take advantage of their limitations and win. I don’t see many thieves complaining they can’t play bunker. It’s because most have accepted to play their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. This is a similar situation.

If you can decap or kill the engineer or any other class do it, but don’t smash your head into a bunker class solo and expect to come out on top in the teamfights. (which is where matches are usually decided)

Good luck.

I think jumping puzzles are one of the best features of gw2. It perfectly complements the game engine. Especially with the recent camera changes. Not all of them even have much jumping. I really hope they continue to release jumping puzzles. I was really saddened to hear no new jumping puzzles in the new wvw map.

Anyway OP, if you ever see me online, I’d love to help with some of the jumping puzzles. So much fun the first time I beat them. I still haven’t done all of them as I’ve yet to finish world completion (I haven’t finished all the zones and puzzles included).

I agree with the OP’s title, players need to do something about turret engies. I played a match yesterday where one of my teamates kept charging mid to fight the turret engie, he died over and over. It was super hard to barely win the game, as everyone else knew to avoid the point he was on. He tried leaving his point for a sec towards the end and got thoroughly destroyed. Finally won 485-568 with a lord kill. If this warrior had understood to avoid the turret engie, we would of been fighting 5v4 instead of 4v4 with one of our players wasting his time. It was a lucky win.

Regardless, Turrent Engineer is a mediocre spec in ranked when facing good players. But I too sometimes feel like charging in gun-ho, and I agree that they are very strong when you try charging in. Unless of course you focus the engineer with 2 other players and quickly down him.

Good luck, and hopefully you find ways to improve as a player so you can face teams with 1 or even 2 turret engies. By the way, I play a no kit, no condi removal engineer, check my post in the engineering forums. It’s fun, and I can drop a turret engineer in a few seconds if he’s already under fire by another player.

Considering you are using Scholars you might actually prefer Armor Mods.

That’s a good consideration. The last trait is flexible. I like scope because it allows me to put out more pressure from a distance before I run in for the kill. Just remember to fire your surprise shots on top of your autos. And Save your revelaed debuff for an actual stealthy. Nothing more aggravating than dying horribly to a thief after you went overkill on a warrior and used all your toolbelt skills.

I’ve ran toolkit many times in the past. This build has excellent mobility. Which means you can actually “counter roam” thieves and mesmers. I’m not saying its the best build, but rocket boots are intended. Without it, you play almost like a moving turret. With it, an agile shotgun ninja. I like the kit, but its not the focus of this build. Give it a try. If you focus on map awareness, I think this build offers some interesting advantages, and is fun to play.

I just won my last game by respawning, and noticing my teamates mesmer was going for enemy lord. I rushed as fast as I could and made it as he got killed by 3 players and the lord. But he had gotten lord to 40%. I killed the lord about a millisecond before they stomped me. That mobility won the game. Although, maybe it wouldn’t come to such a last second if I had more staying power with toolkit during teamfights. Either way, my team was very happy, the enemy surprised as they had just killed me and didn’t expect my return so soon.

Good luck engineers, and if you want to avoid the sack, try this build if you feel up to the challenge of no condi removal and limited skills. (so each button press becomes more important)

Hello,

Just a small suggestion. I am terrible at jumping puzzles but I was able to get through all of them but one. I recommend a small-sized human or sylvari engineer. The Rifle’s jump shot is wonderful for jumping puzzles. Other classes that have a teleport are good too.

There are plenty of videos out there on how to do them. Dulfy, etc.

Was the one you can’t do with the bomb and gryphons? I had such a hard time beating that one, one single scratch and your bomb explodes. At least you can suicide bac kto the start easily to try again.

Loboling.5293

Hey everyone,

Are you tired of playing with your kits? Tired of having to take action when you get overwhelmed with condition? Well look no further, as I have the build for you!

Pros:
Shotgun playstyle
Counters Mesmers and meta thief
Lots of fun
Only needs 25 skill points to work
The joy of telling your team in a rated match “I’m playing with no kit and the only condition removal I have is from dying…Let’s do this!”

Cons:
A good p/p thief….for real…
As sturdy as dust
No condition removal
Downtime, while you reload your shotgun

Gameplay:
The goal of this build is to play off your teammates. You need excellent map awareness, and to time your entry into a fight. Mostly you play a game of counter roaming. You look to see how the enemy mesmer or thief is moving, and try to counter them in the team fights. Let your teammates start the fight, and watch carefully for when the enemy may use stealth and counter with reveal. Don’t try and be a hero and 2v1. Roam to always trying to be there for teamfights, and kill the squishy. (Especially mes and thief)

The build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUnUISbX23F2UBrXGJvgG9VOSNBdAWQ+EVAB-TJBFwACuAAI3foaZAAPAAA

Good luck, and don’t let yourself get spawn camped once the enemy realizes how deadly you can be. If you have to, wait for an ally to spawn and leave with them.

Final note: I don’t claim I invented this. But its a fun build I put together once I got my AED. It may be even better with gadgeteer, but I’m not sure.

Sorry Vigil, but in this game traits, weapons, utility, healing skill, runes, and even elite work together to make a build. You can’t ask people to comment on a build with only some of those elements. If you were to describe more how you want this build to play, I could make you a good build, but there isn’t enough details to “improve” your build.

Also, before you say more, make sure to also specify for which game mode you want this build. PVE, PVP, WVW, Dungeon?

Just want to be absolutely certain.

Can I finish the story step Helping Hands, and leave my character ready to start chapter 6 without any issue?

I want to complete chapter 5, but don’t want to get locked out of this new experience. Since the changes are affecting chapter 6, I have some concerns that if I hit level 60 with a character ready to start chapter 6, that my character will be placed into the old story, even when this change goes live.

Let me know if I can complete chapter 5 now. Thanks a bunch.

As Bobby said, do not complete “A Light in the Darkness” and you will be ok. So you can complete Chapter 5.

“If your character has not completed “A Light in the Darkness,” (chapter 6) you should not encounter any issues. You will be able to experience the Personal Story in its restored order along with the minor improvements that begin with this story step.”

Ya, I agree it is pretty clear, but he had made a previous post that was more conservative. Stating that if you want to be sure to be unaffected by the changes, to not start chapter 6. And since the mission starts itself when you hit level 60 (having finished chapter 5), I had some concern that finishing chapter 5 would prevent me from participating in the changes.

Thanks.
