Staff is not good for pvp, only three weapon sets seem good. d/p, shortbow, and p/p. I went into one match with d/d by accident and it did better than I expected, but I don’t recommend it. Shortbow is even more important in this meta than ever. It is the only weapon that allows you to sustain fights for longer periods. I always run shortbow, and make sure to practice, it takes a while to learn the proper rotations and positioning for thief, but it can be very solid when played well. There are no tricks really, its just a matter of not using all your initiative at once, and properly timing your attacks/evades, don’t forget to make great use of your mobility. And not every game can be won, even if you play perfect.

So, thief kind of sucks now... [spvp]

I responded in the META thread in the pvp section, but I can hold points. 1v1 I can beat necros easy without losing the point, only rev and dh can force me off the point and get the cap, but if I have enough time I can wear them down. (not usually what I do though) Druid, scrapper, can often decap a point from me, but I can do the same for them, the pressure thieves put out is too much to sustain without leaving the point with the lack of tanky amulets. I’m sure there may be some druid cleric builds that could hold a point, but I don’t ever see that. I find both scrapper and druid can be pressured off the point. (helps that engineer is my second most played profession, after ele and before thief) Druid just has no pressure that isn’t easy to avoid.

From Thief Forum-

“What league are you? Also you keep saying 1v1 1v1 1v1, it’s rarely 1v1.. thief gets the kitten burst out of them if they make an appearance. And the whole slippery thing doesn’t cause you are trying to conquer points. It’s all well and good to quick decap but why if you can’t even hold em.. and the rest of your team is getting 4v5? We can speculate all day, but so far in MY experience this is all I seen. That thieves don’t bring much to the table”

Thief can evade or cc so much now, that you only should go down when you mess up. Yes 1v1 is not very often, but thief now excels at it in this meta (minus engaging dh and rev, but both can be killed) You are still good at +1, and decaps (better than back in the day)

I’ve played thief since release (3 years ago), and I think they are in a great place. Better than last two metas.

As for league, I’m only in sapphire, and perhaps you are right this is making things feel easier. I haven’t had as much time to play, but the games I posted are all from today. No one hard counters thief right now it seems. And with the evades, you can get engaged in the teamfights without too much trouble. As always though, for thief it has always been important to know when to go in and when to pull out. When to decap, and when to stay and cap. Because they move about twice as fast as other classes (minus rev), rotating is more important, but if you understand the map, your teams movements, enemy movements, class distribution, map objectives, teleport spots, etc. You can capitalize on it much better on a thief. You just don’t have as much team presence as other classes. Which is fine, since you get all that mobility to grantee you are in the right spot of the map to make the best of it.

Sorry, but Thief is very viable in this Meta. Much more than last season. With my current build I can 1v1 any class, and I feel bad for reapers when I fight them 1v1. I have no hard counters, not even dh, which I will eventually beat 1v1, but it often takes too long.

You are mixing up the difference between the class and your own personal skill.

Thief as a class sucks. It currently only has a +1 role, meaning it gives the opposing team a +1 advantage.

As flattering as that sounds, I really don’t think that I’m anything special. The class is simply difficult to pull off compared to others, by nature of all their surviving tools being active. (minus a recent addition in acro) A bad thief will be terrible, but that doesn’t mean the class should be buffed, or players like me (or better) will simply destroy everyone with Thief. I can already 1v1 anyone, literally, revs, necro, dh, scrapper, etc. I can 1v2 for a while in spvp, and hold points in ways I never could on thief. I think it’s in a great place now, and any buffs will just lead to complaints and nerfs. People already tell me that fighting me is a pain in the kitten, more than any other class they say. Make that worse, and I promise there will be nerfs. No point in buffing if they will just nerf. Just bring down some of the other OP classes some and you will see even mediocre thieves enjoying their games.

Ya, I am loving acro right now for spvp. Feels very great to finally have some point sustain with with extra initiative, 2 second dodge at 50% and auto stunbreak. Makes the thief hard to lock down when combined with daredevil. I’m actually running without trickery for the first time in a long time.

I hope they don’t buff anything on Thief other than what is not used right now. The class is very strong, but could use some buffs to some utilities and weapons (offhand dagger 4, pistol 1)

I disagree, I do think rev can put a lot of pressure on Thief, and I think their mobility should be nerfed some, but thief is far from useless this meta.

Scrapper can’t pressure a good thief, in fact, with the recent changes, I can now 1v1 dh on my build (running acro/dd/crit), but it takes a lot of time. Not usually worth it, but I only die to dh when I mess up.

My biggest counter right now, is another good thief. But there are so few, I’ve only met one all season. (And when I did, I cried a bit lol)

Thief is in a great spot, and will be even better once they nerf Condi reaper pressure, rev mobility, and scrapper sustain. I think with that, you’d have a fairly balanced spvp. Thief just has way too much mobility right now (don’t get me wrong, they need it in this meta, they would suck otherwise), if you aren’t taken good advantage of that and building to win 1v1, I don’t think you are playing the spec right. I’ve yet to meet a scrapper that can 1v1 me yet this season, it is usually a tug-of-war, with each of us pushing the other off the point for a period of time, and he has no way to finish me, but I can finish him if he gets in a bad spot.

Thief is so slippery right now, deals good damage, and can finally sustain if you take acro and use the shortbow. I’m very happy with the class.

Sorry, but Thief is very viable in this Meta. Much more than last season. With my current build I can 1v1 any class, and I feel bad for reapers when I fight them 1v1. I have no hard counters, not even dh, which I will eventually beat 1v1, but it often takes too long.

Thief have so much mobility, and in a meta filled with slow classes like dh and reaper, I feel borderline overpowered. Sure the class takes a lot of active play and careful thought with where to go to. But if you keep going to the right spot on the maps, and rotating well, Thief is very strong addition to a team. I just had a few players call me a lucky charm, and say how they win any games they play with me… I don’t deserve the credit, but I can tell that Thief is in a good place.

I’m not even the best thief I’ve seen in matches. I got beat up bad by one since the season started, otherwise, I’ve destroyed every other thief so far. The class doesn’t play for you, and I like that. Keep playing reaper or dh, and those of us making Thief work can keep playing it. I think Thief will show up in the next big tournament if things stay as they are.

Roles:
-Decaps (forcing enemy to stay on home node at all times, always, for real, takes me 5 seconds to get to their point and decap)
-Pop dh traps if you see them go down, to prevent them from being fully utilized.
-1v1 and contest points 1v1. With my current build I can actually stay on point for a good 20-30 seconds, while its nothing extraordinary, if I choose to leave point, I can win any 1v1. The evades are amazing with daredevil, shortbow, blocks, and stuns galore.
-Help secure stomps in some circumstances.
-Torture necros. Poor Necros…
-Assist with kills in team fights, with the right build we can finally stay in a fight for a long time.
-Rotate like no other class. Play the objectives of the map. This is mostly a big boon in solo queue, where you can often take full advantage. In organized teams, everyone should be rotating to objectives, etc. But often I find in soloq, zipping around the map grabbing stillness, stealing creeps, preventing a lord attempt… all best done by a thief.

I hope you don’t bring poor attitude to you games, although as a thief I’ve yet to meet a warrior do anything substantial. They had two strong builds last season, one was meant to burst bunkers, which are all gone (minus ele, which counters it), and control lockdown, which was nerfed with the amulet changes. I haven’t tried warrior yet this season, so I can’t really comment, but they seem to be the worst class right now. Thieves, not so much. I’d put thief ahead of Ranger right now, on par with mesmer. While they aren’t top tier, what they bring is unique, and hard to counter when played by a decent thief.

I was about to give up with this season, but I played a few 490-500/498-500 matches today that made me happier. Even though so many matches are steamrolls, those matches sort of made up for it. My win rate on Thief this season seems to be about 70-80%. But I’ve only had time for about 30 games total and got to sapphire. Again, way stronger than last season, and if they adjust necro condi pressure, revenant mobility, and engie sustain, I think thief would be one of the top classes. Although nerfing necro would reduce the amount of hardcounters you can do on Thief. I was fighting 3 necros the other day, who were capping our point, managed to down 1 before I had to pull out, they can’t even touch thief. Can’t expect much better 1v3. (all done with shortbow obviously)

So I’m of the crowd that really doesn’t want Thief buffs. If they get buffed, I’m sure they will get nerfed in the future. They are balanced (not really, but all elite specs are overpowered), but they fit in this meta like a glove. You just need to know how to play one.

My complaint thread

Loboling.5293

There is probably another thread somewhere, as I know people are frustrated, but I wanted to say this new season sucks…. like really bad. Every game seems to be a big steamroll, either I win by a lot, or lost horribly. I really miss last season, and even more, I miss hambow meta, or even cele meta (before elite specs).

I’m starting to think that A-Net has destroyed spvp (for those that only play ranked), just as they did to wvw. Sad, I really loved this game, but I don’t think I will log in for a while until this mess is sorted. I’d rather win/lose 50% of the time and have good matches than win non-stop by a landslide. I don’t want to even bother climbing to a higher league so that the matches get better, I’m burnt out. No one should have to play 30-50 bad matches to get into their division. Horrible…

They must see that the difference in score between teams has gotten much larger this season, but they are doing nothing. Good day arena-net, enjoy your saily sale to save your kitten , instead of giving us a quality game. The expansion was a bit of a let down, but I can’t take this being done to my favorite game mode. I hope things change, but maybe this is for the best, as without gw2, I don’t play any other games, and I can do other things with my time.

I still can’t get over it, but I’m done trying. Fix your matchmaking, so we can all have good fun matches. The goal should be to make the most matches possible as close to 500-500. These are the best matches. Please realize that winning is less valuable to most players than actual fun. We play games to have fun, we live life to win. I don’t need some slot machine telling me I’m the best, I can do that in real life with real challenges. (and just as much luck) Make the game mode fun again, never thought you could do this, but well I guess this is a skill.

How can the same people who made this game, make these decisions, I don’t even…. This was imo one of the best games ever released for a time. Even when HoT came out it was decent, but it seems to be getting worse, and the trend is not stopping. Please stop ruining a fun game, I promise you will make less money if people aren’t having fun. I use to spend a couple hundred dollars a year, and I still don’t regret any of it, but this is the end for now, I hope things get better. In the meantime, I’ll be busy trying to do other things. Good luck.

Buffing Thief (PVP)

Loboling.5293

Hey everyone,

I wanted to make this thread cause I worry about thief balance. I think the class is very close to where it should be, but a few builds with other professions are over-tuned. This is not to discuss the professions that need some nerfs, as there are many threads discussing this, but rather to point out areas the Thief can be safely buffed without upsetting balance, especially once the aforementioned classes get nerfed.

Weapons:
Pistol 1
Off-hand Dagger 4
Staff 4

Utilities:
Skelk Venom
Signet of Malice
Smoke Screen
Signet of Shadows (stun brake)
Tripwire
Ambush
Scorpion Wire
Ice Drake Venom

Traits: (Please leave suggestions)

I think any buffs should focus on the stuff mentioned above. The thief is a strong profession, and while is may struggle right now, I don’t agree with buffing it to a stronger level. Simply help out with diversity by buffing the least used skills and utilities. (And traits, but I’m lazy) Thank you, and I hope others agree with me. I don’t want to see the Thief nerfed in a future update, because d/p got buffed, etc.

Ok, I wanted to point out something separate from my last post so I’m making a new one.

There is clearly too much skill discrepancy at the start of this season. They should’ve kept some mmr for determining matchups. I just won my last 2 matches and the enemy players were clearly new to the game. They should not be facing players who have been playing for years. I won both games with the enemy scoring about 100 points. I felt bad, and spent most of the game just talking to them. No point when I can do almost anything and still win.

Edit: we just won a game with a turret engie on our team… nuff said.

Edit 2: I do like the fact that keeping a win streak means I can get out of amber fast, already almost done. Maybe this won’t be so bad for newer players in a few days.

Edit 3: worst game yet, won with the enemy only scoring 20 points. I was often able to chase them off points with just my words.

Okay, I’m too impatient to see what all the fuss is about. Heading into a ranked game on my thief (random build p/p) even with my 400ms latency. I hope it goes well… lol

I’m going to try and avoid fights obviously, and I’ll post back here with an edit to see if it went well or not. XD

Edit: Ok, so one of my team was raging rly hard, called gg and stopped trying after one lost fight (when the score was 5-13 lol), but we still got 410-500. Was a fun game, I’m thinking this build I made is good for lag. I’m going to keep at it, and see if my next game is as balanced.

Edit 2: Ok my next game was less pleasent lol. I had a player on my team die in 5 seconds and then say “20 second rez timer, I didn’t even know that was possible” lol. ended 150-500. Hmm makes you wonder how to get through rngamber. I’m going to keep at it, especially since my latency is a little better now. (down to 200 for now yay)

Edit 3: Game 3 was hilarious beyond belief. I had to stop playing at one point from laughter. They 4 rushed chieftain, even though we had 2 thieves on our team. We got the kill obv, and the other thief spent the rest of the game defending home, and at first I was like no… but then he beat (without even losing the node) 4 of the enemy players as they came in…. a ranger, a warrior, a dh and a thief…. wow. I’ve never seen such bad players outside of hotjoin. Let the RNGamber commence. When I fought them, they seemed to all keyboard turn… I think this matchamking could use something for beginning of season.

Thief is just harder to play well. Surviving while dealing good damage and taking advantage of the thief mobility to its fullest is a lot harder than being tanky, and supporting teamates. They both take some skill, but its very different, and this is coming form someone who has played thief almost 1000 matches in ranked/solo queue back in the day, and I can say I suck. I love the profession, but some players can really make it work better than others. I always feel like a rock star on my thief, until I meet a really good one that 1-2 shots me all game.

Thief is not for everyone, but I think balance is close to good, especially if they nerf a few OP classes slightly. I’m looking at you Rev.

I had the best success in HoT with p/p + staff, around 2.4k armor ~15k hp, and the rest zerker. You can survive 1 hit of most strong attacks, and can dodge like crazy. This was with crit/trick/dd. p/p for single target, and staff for aoe and evade. A p/p thief can do some nice damage while staying out of harms way with dd traits, and if you get swarmed staff with careful timing on your skills can avoid anything.

I’ve never had more fun in HoT PVE than on my thief with this build. So much mobility, good damage, evades out the wazoo, and you can heal to full quickly. Good luck, and just remember that Thief in HoT takes practice, but it also very rewarding. And is not faceroll. On my condi mesmer, I’ve soloed many very hard hero cahllenges (hard on engie, thief, necro, ele, rev) with only my auto attack. I actually ate a meal while doing some of them. Sad the difference in difficulty, but what can you do, thief is more fun and engaging. And with enough practice, you can finish all the hero challenges solo. (at least that was my experience)

I can’t comment on this season yet for ele, and I know people could argue from the perspective of a MLG team who plays together all the time that ele should only support.

However, in the past, I managed to make a non-tempest damage ele work fairly well during the bunker meta. Probably not as strong now, because people realize they will die if they let an ele free cast, so more pressure should come your way, but I think when I get back I’ll try and bring some life into the damage ele, not sure how yet though, going to be tough. I wouldn’t mind some small changes to help out staff ele and scepter.

Ele for damage has always sucked when more players play mobile damage builds like thief and now rev. Without those two, damage ele is fairly strong, and you can probably pull it off well if facing teams of only reapers and dh. (which I’ve heard complaints about) So, while maybe ele is only support in many matches, there are probably still some where you can swap to damage and do well.

Good luck though on getting changes, no doubt ele is at a disadvantage playing anything other than support. As soon as tanky amulets were pulled, I knew ele was going to be in a bad state. (my opinion since I can’t stand classes forced into one build)

Quite disappointed.

These threads are getting silly. Playing a meta build doesn’t give you a win, which is how I made it to diamond last season with a 72% win rate playing a control warrior. All solo queue. Learn the game, pvp is more complex than it looks. I just responded a lot more in another thread if you are looking for some basic advice.

Playing a good build is useless if you don’t know how to rotate (minus those moments when you slaughter someone 1v1, and get a good laugh before 3 enemies are on you and you die wondering why your team is losing.). Rotation, team play, focus fire, and objective completion based on maps are what win games. You could have the best condi reaper build in the game, but if you are a team of slow reapers only, all meta builds, expect to get rekt due to limited team play and difficulty rotating. You may still win, if you are better than your enemies, but Meta builds have never given you victory. It just gives you the best tools for your class to succeed, when the rest of your team is also playing meta builds for other classes.

no I’m not afk, and I do rank well with in my team.

Sorry, but this proves you a not a great pvper. Chill out in unranked like we’ve been forced to for the last few weeks, it shouldn’t feel too different and you can get better matches. Once players that don’t pay attention to score and understand rotations and defending points leave for higher divisions, feel free to jump back in with the “I scored high crowd, so I must of done well”. If you were playing thief, then maybe you can sort of look at score, but most professions spend their time more valuably defending points and rotating to support their teammates. (Thief included on the rotations aspect, but at least a thief should be a part of every big play due to mobility)

Score and skill have nothing to do with one another, unless you only focus on score, but then you are only skilled at getting a high score. When I see teamates leave a point empty to go and 2v1 mid, when we are holding mid, and the point gets decapped in 5 seconds, that player will get a higher score, but is definitely making a poor play in a team game. (unless the point he had to defend got swarmed by multiple players, which is when rotations are very important)

I’m lucky, I’m stuck away from home on a trip, and I have about 400ms latency, so I’m not going to bother with pvp until I get back. I am thinking things will have smoothed out by then. I’m not the best player by far, but instead of quitting, look at how you can improve, and focus on unranked during the season start. You are facing players who know rotations, and understand that in a game all about holding points, you do well when you….well hold the point… which actually gives you very small score. (except roamer builds, and even then there are exceptions)

Pvp in this game is all about team play, don’t run around hitting enemies and claim that because you touched the most enemies in a match, you are the better player on a team. I find this mentality silly, which is why I think personal score should be removed.

Bullet point list:

  • Zones that run the gamut of level ranges. Loot and level scaling make this an ideal decision for this game and make leveling the new Tengu Race feel more fresh.
  • Tons of different zone climates and differences. Give us map variety not only in appearance but also in the way content is made for each map. They all need to feel unique in both presentation and in terms of what we are doing in them.
  • Dungeon Rework. We have existing instances. They need to be reworked to better fit today’s GW2.
  • This one’s a big deal for me if you are charging 50 bucks again: At least 75% as much earnable armor and weapons as in the base game at launch. The absolute lack of that in HoT was one of many reasons I didn’t buy HoT.

Especially the armor and weapon skins. However, I really liked another posters suggestion about earning unique skins in specific content. (like old dungeon rewards)

I also really think having many zones that contain different content is important. I want a zone that is similar to old kessex hills, and another similar to VB, etc. Not just one type of zone with different mechanics. (alla timed events) Exploring slowly and finding fun caves, mini puzzles (north gandarren), etc are the best part of playing. Making the content in the expac all about grinding is a big no, and diminished the enjoyment of the expac for me.

Some zones can be completely unique, (make a zone that the ground can literaly crumble at your feet if you stand on it too long, but give safety zones, add zones with jumping puzzle themes, and some that are easy going like old Tyria. Just make sure that we get a good amount this time. The new content, while dense, feels repetitive in some ways. Some zones can maintain that complexity, but there needs to be at least 10 maps. A zone that swaps your weapon skills with an item to progress? be creative, but give us lots of content. Not everyone has to love it all, but if we have enough to dive into, everyone will be happy with the exploration.

Also please stop fixing wvw…… it hurts, I miss the game mode. The community is dead. Please find a way to see what made wvw special, and build on that. Do not keep changing things up for fun, people who used to play wvw loved consistent, yet flexible battles. Revert stability change for wvw, or all game modes, the new stab was a big setback to enjoyablee fights. And this is coming from someone who used to play zerk staff ele, so almost no stab, but I miss seeing strong pushes. Please, any changes at this point should be fixing what was broken with the recent changes (past years). The only recent change that I really enjoy is points for kills. Thats it.

Also, please give us something to do in HoTM. Something as simple as ffa player zone. Everyone is an enemy when inside the ring. Sounds more fun than waiting. Anyway, be creative and give us some filler content between matches.

Also for pvp, add option for no double professions, so you can opt to only face teams of different professions. This can possibly be bypassed with team queuing, I’ll let you guys test and see what works best.

Bring back courtyard as a seperate queue mode, like you did with stronghold. Why not, a lot of people enjoyed it.

Remove profession dailies, and replace with something else, and allow the daillies to all be completed in any of the 3 pvp game modes.

Never remove ranked queue, even between seasons, or give us an option to opt out of specific maps. I can’t stand skyhammer, WHY!!!!? lol

Anyway, good luck on the next expac devs.

Would be welcome if they fix this and implement some button or option to get free or respawn at base or so.

Otherwise a knockback can basically turn a game into 4v5.

Firstly, yes this sucks and there should be a faster way to get out of the wall, but there is a button to get unstuck. (actually a few)

logout->character select-> log back into the character of your choice

if you exit the match, and go right back in, you can be back in the game and unstuck within 10-30 seconds depending on the speed of your computer.

I’ve never spent a whole game stuck in a wall, and if I was your teamate I’d be annoyed if you didn’t just logout/in. It doesn’t take long and solves this issue.

If you didn’t know, then I hope that helps in the future, because expecting something like this to get fixed is going to probably take a long time, if ever.

Edit: wanted to add if someone is confused as well, this does not give you a loss. If you get back in within 2 minutes.

Sadly, it doesn’t usually work this way. You are not running the strongest scrapper pvp build, but they will nerf it in accordance to it’s meta build. Balance is really tricky, but I wouldn’t worry too much, scrapper is not the top issue of balance right now imo. So it should be some time before any nerfs come again.

It’s funny cause it feels really hard to gauge balance during the unranked season. It feels like the games are so inconsistent. I’m excited to play ranked.

A drop in players?

Ya I think they didn’t get the balance right with this expansion on included content vs gemstore stuff. You finish the content of the expansion and realize, its either finish grinding out a few last masteries for longer than you may like doing the same content, or spend onto the gem store to get unique skins and outfits. I almost only do dailies too now, a couple pvp matches (which is not as fun without ranked, why remove it?).

I kind of lost it my apetite to play after completing the part 1 story where you are a bunny and have to kill wolves without rezing any vigil.. Took me almost an hour of well…. not much fun. It was fun to learn the rhythm and learn how to damage it without taking damage, but as a constant with the expansion, more hp = more content. It could of easily taken me 20 minutes if it was scaled properly. Again, this is some of the only ways to unlock enough mastery points to progress.

Anyway, I’m going to stick around, but I too have been playing other games mor than gw2 these past few weeks. But I’m still excited about future free content. Just not much reason to play right now for almost any crowd.

Designing the elite specs and masteries couldn’t of taken more time than developing all the classes, their utilities healing skills, etc. That is what I was saying, the expansion must of taken a lot less time than making gw2. Same cost, but one had multiple thousands of hours of content, compared to the expansion the value is lower, but cost is the same.

The hope was that there would be more content released after the expansion, and outside of one raid wing with few unique drops, there has been nothing. Again, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and likely still buy their next expansion, but I did feel a little ripped off once I finished the expansion content. Wondering where to find glider skins… Oh right only if I pay even more.

I honestly don’t think this would be much of a problem if the initial game wasn’t such good value back in the day. They shot their own foot, and can’t seem to live up to their history.

I will say this in defense of A-Net. The new maps are very in depth. It probably took a lot more time to make each than any other map in old Tyria. However, I am of the crowd that feel we didn’t get enough bang for our buck, considering how good the original game was with content. Let’s say this is equal to 8 maps of old content. Well kitten , the development time for the engine and textures must of been a lot longer on the original. And yet it was the same price. Where are the hundreds of skins? Where is the almost endless exploration. (I mean map completion takes a lot longer than the new content – minus grinding guild halls with too few members, that takes longer)

Expansion let me down, but the game is still good in many ways, but I feel it’s overall value has diminished.

I know this will never be picked up on internally. (Cause it would require people to pvp, and watching the devs fight chieftain told me that no, they do not actually play pvp)

Now, sorry for being snarky, this isn’t even a big deal…. I’m just whinny and sick (with fever) Anyway, the bonfire in the pvp zone has been invisible for about a month. You can still die standing on it, but there are no animations except a dark patch. (I had honestly thought they removed it, until I noticed it is just invisible)

This is by far one of the lowest priority things, but just letting you know.

How does a thief beat a scrapper?

in Thief

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I won’t explain better than those above me, so I won’t bother. Only add that it is possible. (And 2/3 of my most played classes are thief and engie) I’ve been taken down on my engie to good thieves (almost always have the upper hand though) and I’ve killed some scrappers on my thief with good positioning and mobility.

However, in pvp this is a team game, so you don’t have to worry about who you can 1v1 on a thief. It can be frustrating to be at a disavantage against a lot of meta builds 1v1, but you can zoom around the map and “finish” a lot of fights. Very useful in a game. The initial clash can be tricky though.

Compared to Reaper, how is this for DPS?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

Mesmer dps is low. They have decent spike damage though. For dps I wouldnt play mes, but they can be fun, and bring useful tools to the table (just not as much damage as most other professions). If this is for group play, enjoy mes (utility). If you are talking solo, enjoy mes (survivability).

I hope this helps. If I can suggest a profession vastly different from necro that does great damage I’d recommend either the engineer or elementalist. However, a few professions can deal good damage, just not mesmer.

However, on my mesmer, there has yet to be a hero challenge I couldn’t solo in HoT. So it’s not all about damage. (only reaper could manage that with more difficulty) I even just did one while smoking, and on my thief, necro and engie, it was very difficult. I just let the mob focus my clones, while practically afk auto attack with scepter… lol

Just Remove the Mesmer Class Anet!

Since 4 days there’s no Mesmerdaily. But every day is Necrodaily. Lol Anet

lol I noticed this too, I’m still pvping on my mes (I always prefer to underdog specs for pvp – I played warrior for season 1) But it keeps forcing me to leave pvp to finish my daily. Gah!

Seriously though, mesmer is not terrible, but I’d prefer to take this time to buff their sustained damage, which has always been a frustration with the class. So I think buffs should focus on that domain.

Lazy classes for pve:
Minion master necro
Longbow ranger with tanky pet (drake)

Lazy classes for pvp:

I would rather have a color diffrence when your dodge is on CD like pale red (can’t dodge) verses dark red (able to dodge) or something.

I could get behind this. Simple change that would help some players, and change nothing for others. This is a great idea. Although I don’t think it will happen if not brought up to A-Net. They don’t really go through the forums looking for suggestions…. If they ever have a thread called “improving the ui” and ask for feedback this should go there, but other than very specific threads. They do not read the forums (They being the developers) .

A daily training schedule which consists of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and 100 squats along with running 10 km every single day. Eat three meals a day, but only a banana as breakfast and also don’t use the AC, to strengthen your mental resistance. This training will be tough, but if you keep it up day after day, you should be a hero in no time.

Just went to the lighthouse and kitten something is definitely up. There is a huge fog blowing in from the sea, and the energies powering the lighthouse of surging intermitently. I imagine it uses ley energies, similar to the waypoints. So I think people saying the energy is returning are right. This really would be mordy is dead, and he was one of the dumbest villains since d3.

I think this will lead to an invasion from the sea, and the rest of the living world will deal with these effects. Also, I’m going to say that if the ocean dragon really does come up, I think it will be in the next expansion. Which could mean they will finally finish their work on underwater combat. Meaning we might see some underwater (mostly) zones. I may be taking this too far…

Either way, head up to the top of the lighthouse in LA and see for yourself. It’s almost like a storm. I really can’t help but think of sharknado, I hope they do a reference… lol

What class has the worst heal/sustain?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Loboling.5293

Loboling.5293

I’d say mesmer has worse sustained healing potential than thief. A thief built for healing is comical, but not great for meta anything. They crumble easy, but can bring their hp back up very quick. In fact, I think Revenant is also worse than thief. So thief would probably be 3rd, cause they lack sustain due to squishyness, but they got lots of healing.

Most players have multiple gear sets, so its never too late to start working on a direct damage set. For direct damage, you want a lot of berserker, I’m sure there are some detailed build guides around. Then there is condition damage builds that run viper, sinister gear, but playing with rabid will be cheaper. Then finally, you get hybrid builds, which I don’t know much about. In the end, there is some decent flexibility for pve necro.

I’d say the best set to get first is the one you want to play. (Try them out in pvp zone) However, I think direct damage is more useful in pve. (mostly just due to destructible objects being immune to conditions) However, there are times when either direct damage or condition damage will be better. Which is why most players carry multiple sets on their characters, to switch when the time is needed. Gear (exotic) is very cheap. Getting ascended jewelry is almost free with a bit of time.

[Vid] Unranked in a nutshell

in PvP

Loboling.5293

SO MUCH THIS! Really felt submersed in the video. It’s like I was there, or I had some terrible memories from many of my recent unranked matches… XD

Please never remove ranked! I don’t mind seasons, but between seasons you shouldn’t throw a whole group of players under the bus. I’ve done about 1/6 as much pvp since the season ended, a lot because of the fact that the games don’t feel as competitive, so so few try hards. I mean, I haven’t been called bad in any game yet, and in ranked there is always at least one to tell me to reroll due to my profession and that I should die. I don’t miss these people, but I miss the world they lived in.. XD

TLDR: NEVER GET RID OF RANKED.

Ya, I’ve had great success (in unraked mind you, we’ll have to see how builds preform in an environment where players don’t simply die to collateral damage) with 2 warrior builds. One is a burst/lockdown build and the other a condition build that makes great use of the recent buffs. The build is really strong in some situations. With the new condi berserker, you can stack 12-18 stacks of burning very quick. (On mobile targets) So it plays more like a condi guard in many ways now. But with more mobility, less point control, and more sustain than condi guard.

Overall, I think all that is needed now for warriors are a few tweaks to underused abilities, and some tweaks to other classes.

Warriors are worst off now than before

in Warrior

Loboling.5293

There are a few warrior builds I’m really enjoying, but unranked doesn’t really prove much. I’m looking forward to the new season, and I don’t feel warrior as a whole is worse off; they did nerf the stance builds in some ways and buff them in others, so they no longer give the same performance as before.

Overall, I’ll miss my tanky build from last season, but I feel a whole range of builds are open to work on. The new zerker king of fires, is a big buff in pvp. In the blink of an eye I can stack 5 stacks of burning, and follow it up with another 12-16. That is just with my condi build, I also have a damage/control build that I think rocks, but it is a little niche in role, and is not a solid carry.

I just wanted to share some of my more positive experiences so far. I think warrior may see some play this upcoming season. Ele is toast from what I see, or I haven’t met a good one yet. Necro is solid, but high cc comps are going to be focused to keep necros in control. Warrior is great at control and is also versatile, especially with the condi changes (new king of fires). Thief is also probably back in the meta with the amulet changes. All in all, minus ele (from what I’ve seen) and mes (which there may be some creative builds that won’t really surface until ranked starts) the game feels pretty balanced in pvp this season. At least from a warriors perspective.

Although yes, warrior sustain is still terrible. (even worse with the amulet changes)

Who hates this game now because of HoT?

As a 95% pvp only player, I haven’t felt this way. I was very disappointed with many things in the expansion(lack of skins, gliders, change to spell effects like fireball, being so slow to implement some of the great ideas to improve stronghold such as no starting supply, etc), so I stopped spending money in the gem store. By now, I’d probably would have spent close to 60$.

Even still, I’ve been playing the game, and enjoying it, although again, I’m bummed that there is no pvp between seasons for ranked. However, this had led me into my 5% margin and I’ve been trying to unlock my gliding so I can glide in central tyria endlessly.

kitten , Revenant is about the only profession I don’t know well enough to buildcraft… lol Follow some of the advice here, but I found the easiest way to learn pvp at first was to stack up on defense, jump into a hot join and play a game of “how long can I hold the point”. It is actually fundamental to pvp anyway, but once you get comfortable with the different tells from classes you are fighting, you can ease off on the defense and stack to try and exploit what you have learned. Don’t be affraid to try things out against the boss monsters in pvp, they teach you a bit about movement and how to circle enemies, npcs are more vulnerable to it, but it also works against players. Good luck.

Only experience. I’ve just had more success with loading up burns with bombs and flamethrower, and kiting everything than with trying to get into melee with hammer.
