Untradable weapon skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

LordEnki.9283

I’d like to reply to those who are saying that making this set account-bound is “a money grab.” Please keep in mind that we make the same amount of revenue for each BLC weapon skin that enters the game through MTX regardless of whether or not that weapon skin is later resold on the trading post.

The currency exchange is a player driven market and as the gem-to-gold exchange rate has increased, the trading post value of BLC weapon skins hasn’t kept pace. That leads to the common complaint that it feels bad to buy Black Lion chests for gems, because it seems as if they’re full of things that you could have bought more cheaply by converting your gems to gold instead. It’s not our goal to make you feel like a chump for buying chests. After all, by buying chests, you’re supporting the creation of the content that everyone plays. So it’s nice for there to be account-bound things in the chests in addition to the other tradeable items. With a lot of the chest contents, it’s not possible for them to be account-bound, because for a lot of things you’d be screwed if you got dupes and couldn’t off-load them to friends or onto the Trading Post. By putting the skins on the Black Lion Weapon Specialists we support those who have stored tickets and still have a combination of account-bound and non-account-bound items in the chest, as we did before today’s release.

This set of purely cosmetic skins still can ultimately be acquired either by purchasing them or by earning gold in the game and trading it for gems. If you like getting skins from the chests that can’t be obtained more cheaply through the trading post, use your claim tickets on these weapons. Or if you prefer tradeable skins, use your claim tickets for the other weapon sets, or acquire those weapon sets by trading for them with other players who bought them with claim tickets.

We on the dev team want to thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us.

If this is your fix for BLTC chests being disappointing then it failed. The only thing special is that they just sold a lot of keys because of the “tripled chance” for permanent contracts. So they know the market is fairly saturated with tickets. So these skins would be cheap enough on the trading post they wouldn’t sell more keys for a chance of a chance of what you want. I love this response too of basically “Tough kitten, buy the old ones if you don’t like it.”

One day, you might end up getting a precursor drop from an enemy aggravated by another player. Their loss

Exactly this, i got my Dawn from a lv60 shark while gathering from a underwater platium node in timberline. It is no big deal take times killing these unexpected mobs really.

Since when do precursors drop from sub 80 mobs? Even if it’s not a big deal to you, having the problem fixed for those who are bothered by it will not impact you negatively in the least.

This is the worst mob training game since EQ.

And people are right, it is not Anets problem. It is a people problem. They simply do not care how much aggro they drag, where they drag it, and consider it to be your problem when they dump it on you.

Then Blame you for being annoyed.

Harvesting is bad enough, but then we have those who think dragging several Champions into the middle field during Claw of Jormag is “someone else’s” problem. Or running in to a champ troll fight dragging more troll and elemental adds onto the backline.

It is simply poor gamesmanship and they don’t care.

Sure. It only takes “5 seconds” to kill a single mob trained on you. 5 seconds the person dragging it could also take to kill it.

Odds are as well that during the time you take to kill a mob trained to you on a node, other people will drag more to you. And blithely run off. "Your problem now, herpa kitten "

The best is when there is a clear non aggro path, and Joe “I don’t give a kitten” will run through 6 Grawl trappers and worms to bestow them upon you because he can’t be bothered to avoid aggroing things he has no intention of fighting. It is rude.

Absolutely right, it is a people problem. It’s just that there is really nothing we can do about people being inconsiderate or rude (Just look at some of the responses). However Anet could help solve the problem since they control the actual world it’s happening in.

A thread for something that’s fixed by taking 5 seconds to kill the.mob. Your right. ANet needs to spend time to fix something that is not broken. Really OP, it’s not a big deal, or you could just run off. Worst QQ thread ever.

The point is that you shouldn’t have to clean up after someone else’s laziness. Seriously, if you don’t have anything positive to add or it doesn’t bother you why waste everyone’s time posting? There’s not a bit of QQing here other than your post which adds nothing to the conversation.

Hmm, well I haven’t had such issue with other players aggroing mobs to me, atleast in vanilla PvE maps, where simply having full berserker gear and DPS build is enough to fight off mobs in a single stand off, very literally.

Yah. I personally haven’t noticed this as a problem. A small annoyance sometimes, but even my level 80 light armor chars can ignore most mobs while harvesting, in core Tyria. Perhaps the OP doesn’t have level 80s or is talking about HoT maps.

I have 12 level 80’s. I’m not worried about getting killed or anything. It’s just really annoying and makes me feel less than joyous seeing other players when I’m harvesting. Before megaservers I would just guest to the lowest pop servers to lower the chances of running into people who would aggro on me. I tend to gather a lot.

One of the biggest tenants of GW2 has always been that you should never hate seeing another player in the open world. However with the way that mobs react to aggro I constantly find myself being discouraged in certain situations. I don’t think that anyone here has not experienced having someone drag a mob to you at a gathering node just to leave it there to now attack you. Now I understand where there is a bit of realism here, but I think it causes far more problems than benefits it provides in immersion. You either have to take the time to kill a creature you were careful to avoid or be put in combat which slows you down as well. All of which happens to no fault of your own.
My suggestion would be to have mobs reset to their original position after the original person who drew aggro would be out of range without drawing additional targets on the way back.
I’m not a programmer so I don’t know how hard this is to accomplish and to what depths of resources it would require. I just wanted to suggest it and hope others feel the same way.

The hacker on BG from the guild PINK is at it again. How one person can troll an entire server years after release is amazing to me. ANet should have put a honey pot on this teleport hack a long time ago and just outright banned anyone that access it.

I am pretty sure this is the same fellow from a couple years ago doing the same thing they did then probably using the same hacking method.

This same person has been doing the same thing for a very long time. This same person used to do the same thing when TC came to T1. I used to try to think positively and not believe the people who say Anet doesn’t care. I gave up on that after seeing the same hacker getting away with the same crap over a year later. I took a break for a couple of weeks to see if they would fix the issue, since the game had pretty much become unplayable, but I see LA is still sitting at about 12 FPS and it’s giving me a headache just to walk around with my character. This is just silly. And no, since this happened right after a patch and NOTHING had changed about my system, I don’t think this is an “individual” issue, I’m sorry.

I agree, if anything it’s gotten worse. I’ve been in contact with CS who has been very helpful, but after running all of the test they asked me to run I got the " Your drivers may be out of date causing the problem" response from a different CS person. Which is pretty much the “Did you unplug it and then plug it back in?” of graphics problem answers. Of course that was the first thing I checked in the beginning and they were up to date when I rechecked. I haven’t needed to update them since well before this issue. I’m waiting to hear back now about it, but I’m not feeling especially confident at this point.

I only say this is an individual issue because if it was a server side issue everyone would have problems. Please don’t flame me for saying this…. It’s just how things work….

No flaming I promise, but I know I’ve been through this personally and no resolution. However, it’s nice of you to post this information as a lot of people may not know about it. It only showed up after patch for me. I also have to bring up the not so distant time that only certain people were having FPS issues for like 10 days unless they disabled the HUD which was eventually fixed. I am curious how many of us are amongst those who had that same problem then even though the first thing I did was try it without the HUD. It doesn’t seem to be the same problem this time.

Did this ever improve for anyone, or did anyone ever find a fix? I just returned from a fairly long break and was hoping to get HoT and start playing again. In Lion’s Arch I’m getting 10-20 FPS on max settings and 40~ on minimum settings. I used to be able to get 60~ on max before.

Edit: Ran GW2 repair, no difference.

No improvement here. I still can’t play any of the expansion maps (since the patch) and some others. However on other maps I get -90fps. I mean I get at least 45 at the lowest during a full map Maw event with the snow blowing around and everything. Go to Cursed Shore and 15-20fps and sick to my stomach. GPU-Z checks out great and my settings are all on lowest anyway. I’m kind of starting to lose hope as there doesn’t seem to be enough of us to validate the problem created.

Guardian shouts causing auto-attack to trigger has been a LONG running bug or flaw. However with DH it’s a bit worse now because if I use a shout for swiftness my character relentlessly shoots the first thing it sees. Now I’m used to this with my staff and shouts so I would immediately click the ground to removed the target after using a shout. However with LB it doesn’t matter. I can untarget a million times and my DH will auto-attack regardless. I have to switch weapons to get it to stop.

This is my only serious complaint about HoT to date. The Silverwastes was bad enough with mobs offering no loot – now event mobs don’t even give experience. Don’t offer charges of ‘on kill’ sigils. Don’t increase the stack of my killstreak boosters. Oh, and when i get sick of mindlessly killing things for no reward, The event greys out and i don’t get anything for my time sunk.

This makes events feel like a trap you have to avoid falling into, and that is simply terrible design.

This ^ Most personal peeve lately was working on an event in AB for 10 minutes killing tons of non-mobs just to get disconnected at the very end of the long event and left with nothing for all of my efforts. Pretty much sums up the whole rewards system for the game.

Gold Starvation

LordEnki.9283

Alright, so I know it’s a touchy topic for some people, but it’s been a while since HoT’s launch and it still hasn’t really been addressed so I figure it can’t hurt to add my voice to the chorus.

Let me begin by saying I’m not a free player. I enjoy the game and so I support it. I however refuse to purchase gold for real money. Personal ethics code for gaming forbids this. And I feel like this is what we’re being pushed into with the gold nerfing in GW2 atm.

I enjoy playing pve content mainly, and I especially enjoy instanced pve. Before the nerf, I was netting around 25 gold per day running dungeons and fractals, and less frequently world bosses. Now that gold has been nerfed, I find myself constantly at 1-5 gold, and unable to earn more than 6 or so gold a day without a lucky skin drop or selling off tons of accumulated mats on TP.

My complaint is that the game has made it nearly impossible for me to sustain a reasonable gold income without either playing the trading post(which I hate in every game and has driven me out of many MMO’s), or mindlessly mobbing events in the new zones. I feel that new players would hurt even more from this as they can’t even run higher level fractals for the occasional lucky drops.

My request is that we simply revert the dungeons back to their previous state. I know some will take advantage of liquid gold drop by running multiple free accounts through optimal routes and somewhat damage your carefully constructed economy, but without a fun way to make money in a content type I enjoy, I will be leaving the game quite shortly. There are many MMO’s out there that allow me to enjoy earning gold in game through content I enjoy, and this is more important to me than any of the other factors that caused me to switch to GW2 in the first place.

It’ll be a touchy subject to say the least because about the same 10 or so names that always jump on people with a legitimate problem will do so to you I’m sure. Anyway, GW2’s economy is affected 100% by the fact that you can trade in game currency for premium store items. This benefits as it prevents inflation, but it has for the last three years caused the problems that you have mentioned. Content becomes a gold sink instead of rewarding and empty mobs with stealth nerfs such as loot in bags unaffected by MF.

Introverts need not apply.

LordEnki.9283

I love this game, I’ve played every class at least a little, explored the world, crafted armour, weapons, jewellery and food, worked to unlock achievements. Of course I was excited about the new expansion. And then I read the announcements linked from the start-up and with each one my heart sank a little more, it seems my kind is no longer welcome, because I am an introvert.

I’d like to think that it’s not deliberate, that all that emphasis on teamwork and socialisation is meant to be inclusive not exclusive and that whoever is responsible for writing those articles honestly doesn’t know how very, very far from the truth that is. I’d like to believe that, mostly I do, but at this point I would not be entirely surprised to read an announcement that all accounts with fewer than a hundred friends are to be suspended.

At this point I know what the next question is going to be, if I’m an introvert why do I want to play an MMO? Well to put it as simply as possible, because I’m asocial not antisocial. I like knowing that there are other people around, I like knowing that whenever I buy something at the trading post, someone, somewhere got that little bit closer to being able to afford their dream weapon (or whatever else they’re saving up for). I like being part of group events, feeling like I’m doing my part. I like healing and/or rezzing other players, one of my happiest Guild Wars 2 memories is of being against a world boss, popping an AoE heal/regen over a group of downed players and seeing every single one get back up and carry on fighting.

One of the things I like best about Guild Wars 2, that always made me feel included, is that I don’t have to be in a group to do any of those things, I don’t have to make any kind of social commitment I can just be there, lend a hand and be on my way again. Sadly I’m starting to feel like that was some kind of accident, not a feature intended for those of us who prefer to be on the fringes but more of a gateway drug to all that friendship building and stuff all the announcements are about. If that is the case then please consider this, socialisation is tiring for introverts and forced socialisation can be actively harmful to our mental well-being. I’m something of an extreme case, but there are plenty of days when that casual ‘thank you’ / ’you’re welcome’ on rezzing a random stranger is all the socialisation I can handle but I still appreciate the feeling that I helped someone, even if it was just a little bit.

I’m not asking for a ton of new soloable content (though a little would be nice), I’d just like an assurance, a few brief words from on high that the lurkers and the loners are still welcome at this feast. And for players, whether in large guilds or small, or no guild at all, if at sometime you were taken down by more skelk than you knew existed and someone you never saw before or since crossed half the map to fight them off and put you back on your feet, remember this, you may just have witnessed an introvert in the wild and you’re welcome.

I completely understand where you are coming from here. The way this game has been made in the past actually allowed me to test my limits of social interaction more than ever before. I used voice chat, joined a guild, and even popped my commander tag a few times which are things I never did in any way, in any game. I agree too that some of the new content and proposed content make me concerned that I will in the end return to my old gaming ways. Ways that left me unable to obtain top tier gear because I was unable to overcome certain anxieties. It always made me feel very left out that because of my disabilities I couldn’t play alone hardly at all in other games. GW2 let me get comfortable and enjoy the full game without doing things I didn’t like. That gave me time to become involved with one of the nicest communities in gaming. Still the game is not without it’s share of elitist, rude, or otherwise unwelcoming players in certain game modes. When those modes are required to complete stories, an entire tier of gear (legendary armor for example) it leaves me questioning if I’ll be left out of a game I’ve enjoyed investing nearly 8k hours into.

Does GW2 feel unrewarding for anyone else?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: LordEnki.9283

LordEnki.9283

This year, I started GW2 with a friend of mine.
I really enjoyed GW2 until a huge difference of loot between us showed up over time. I’ve sold everything to complete my first legendary, while he already completed his legendary a long time ago, even though I’ve spent more time in GW2 than him (I had ~1500h while he had ~900h). Additionally he has found two precursors and is currently sitting with a huge amount of gold, without spending any real money.
Basically we did the same thing: doing boss events, dungeons and silverwastes.
I got frustrated and decided to grind even more. Sometimes I’ve reached about 120 Gold after 24hours. However I’ve come to realize, that I have basically no luck. I rarely got sigills/runes which were worth about 6-8 gold, but that’s it.
Out of desperation, I started to gamble. That was the first (and last) time in my life that I’ve ever thought about gambling could raise my wealth. I’ve thrown over 1k of rare great swords in the mystic toilet and spend 1k+ Gold in Tarrktun.
Of course I’ve lost everything. Now sitting with 27 Silver, I decided to quit GW2. That was about one month ago.
If I had saved up all the gold instead of gambling, I could have bought a second legendary for sure. However it feels like I’m endlessly grinding without any luck in sight, which frustrates me more than saving up every copper for a legendary. I like shiny things (like a Skritt), but without any noticeable reward, it makes me feel I’m being treated unfairly, no matter how much effort I’m putting into it. This kind of “Wow, I’ve found something really cool”-feeling is missing. I’ve played many games involving RNG (GW1, D1-D3, PoE etc.) but I’ve never felt so unsatisfied like in GW2.
I really like to come back, but thinking of the situation which I mentioned above is holding me back (kind of a love-hate relationship). I don’t know what to do.
I like to hear your opinion on it. What are your experiences so far?
Sorry for my English.

Rewards in GW2 has a big a huge topic since the beginning of the game when such things as diminishing returns was put into place. Unfortunately it’s an issue that has never really been addressed and if anything rewards have been consistently and slowed lessened from each new content release. That is unfortunately the price of a game where you can buy story items with in game gold because amount of rewards affect their bottom line.

Unfortunately much of this goes way back. There were people who took advantage of certain events in the past when loot was dropped and it was used as a horrible excuse to make creatures no longer drop loot, xp, or stacks. It’s a very empty feeling to kill hundreds of mobs for 30 minutes that aren’t even real just to get nothing. It was a lazy fix instead of actually addressing the design elements that led to events being farmed instead of completed. I don’t think there is some evil conspiracy to take our loots, but if you think there isn’t some serious thought of the gold to gem exchange process that goes into making rewards then you may be just as extreme at the opposite end of the spectrum. Another huge gold sink event release in coincidence to the anniversary sale and coming expansion may just be bad planning on Anets part. I mean they are REALLY busy right now and it would be understandable if mistakes were made. However even if innocent it breeds the same contempt in the player base. It saddens me more to think of all the new players who have no idea that these events used to be fun and helped to make gold/ mats to achieve your end game goals. In spite of the Scarlet invasions difficulties that help to lead to this sort of soulless event, they will never know the fun that those invasions were in comparison to this. They’ll never know the first Queen’s Jamboree and how much most people loved it. Silverwaste was a rare example of events done mostly right in terms of rewards, but bundles upon bundles of chances of loot that are not affected by magic find is just as disheartening. Rewards in this game have always been a sensitive subject. Whether it is the many who feel they are not appropriately rewarded vs the many who prefer the content over rewards. The economy vs gold to gem conversion argument as to why things are so unrewarding is an old topic too. No matter where you stand there is no doubt this is a beautiful and fun game to play. I admit I can be overly passionate about the game, but it’s because I love it so much. There’s nothing better out there in my humble opinion. The rest of my long post is my input to all of the new players that may be joining us (even if they can’t post here yet as they are enjoying the free accounts) I just want the new players who may be reading this to not give up because of of this event. If you love the game make your voice heard. Realize that although there will be those who can be very defensive of your criticism, that they just love the game a lot too. Also that’s it’s actually a good thing to voice that criticism here constructively. Which I myself am working on the constructively part, but thanks to wonderful people like Gayle who have a gentle way of letting you know you’re acting like a butthead without insulting you I am learning (which by the way whatever they pay her they need to double because Gayle rocks). Discussion is after all what shapes the game. Just because you have a problem with the game doesn’t mean you hate the whole game and should “just not play”. Anet is pretty good about listening when the community speaks in unison. So if you are new or old to the game and love it as much as most of us do then help make it the game YOU would want to play.

It’s really bad this week in T3 NA as well. Doesn’t look like I’ll get to play much this week.

How to get Legendary armor outside of raids?

Horrible decision if that’s the case. Play the way you want to, unless of course you want a certain tier of gear. It may be the same stats, but it’s still it’s own tier. It seems the mass migration of WoW players finally took it’s toll and is turning the game away from what some of us long term players loved about it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t get special rewards for raids that aren’t found elsewhere in the game, but it shouldn’t be an entire tier of gear. That’s my opinion, even if it doesn’t feel as though it’s heard.

What if they announced 3 PvE maps for HoT?

If the legendary thing proves true, finding out that there were only going to be three maps would insure I didn’t waste my money.

If this does turn out to be accurate, then it’s just another nail in the coffin for me. Right next to the last announcement they made, but that’s a thread on it’s own. The whole expansion seems really weak and I can’t imagine it keeping anyone entertained for 3 more years.
