To be fair as least this patch went in the right direction with the fix of the ele downed state bug. Alot easier to kill eles now which equates to quite a big nerf. That bug before (was it a bug?) was insane. Now you can burst/aoe an ele down like everyone else.

Yes, thank you for listening. It was really fun to be able to have paid tournaments pop as frequently as free tournaments did when they were released. Reducing the barrier to entry means that the casual pvpers that do their daily achievements will be able to do one paid one round tournament per day and increase the playerbase in HOTM without forcing sPvPers to do a three round free (more likely one round at best). In addition, I think this will cause more people to try out free tournaments as they would only have to win one free in order to get into a one round paid tourney.

Yup. It is kind of the law of unintended consequences (or maybe they knew what would happen). Here is a summary of the new system and its knock on effects:

- Means most premades are now prepared to do paid tournies as it pops instantly and CRUCIALLY ONLY COSTS 1 TICKET AND EVEN IF YOU LOSE YOU GET SOMETHING.
- As a result the free tournies are mostly composed of solo/duo queuers. Thus, by making paids actually doable (because they cost less) they have made free tournies less of a rofl stomp.
- As a result free tournaments are less demoralising (losing 500-0 every tournament at some point really makes people quit) so more and more people will play them.
- As more people get into free tournments they will be interested to play in paid tournies as they only cost 1 ticket and this seems like something they are prepared to spend (instead of 5 or 3 tickets which is just an insane amount of gold to spend just to get crushed). Thus, paids will pop more often.

The key features of this new system is:
1, the cheap cost of the paids. 1 ticket is fine. It still takes a while for your average player to grind for but overall they wont mind as you still get a chest (ok not a good chest but something) for losing.
2, The 2 team queue. No queues = more people queue. Also 2 team queue will make a matchmaking system viable which would further enhance the current system to the point where we could now start getting serious about pvp.

Sure a solo queue would be the best thing this game could get. But at least the current system makes free tournies more bareable to do solo. Really this change has fixed so many huge issues with the tpvp that I really hope we can swiftly revert to it after the week.

Please keep cheap entry for tournies and 2 team queues. You need both of these or it will suck. And matchmaking will obviously make the whole thing better.

Where we go after the 1 week trial

My guild has never done paids before but tonight we did 2 and had fun. We lost but did alright. We would never of done them when they cost 3 tickets (let alone 5) but we are all happy to queue often now they are just 1 match and its just 1 ticket!

Please keep this change. It is amazing. We didnt wait more than 2 minutes for either queue to pop and this was at 3am local time in the EU!

Also this change made the free tournaments almost entirely solo queue (I did many and I almost always queue solo – usually I get stomped by a 50+ premade but this time I won 3 of them with a pug). Now these teams can do paids because they always pop and arent ridic expensive. WHich makes frees more fun

So this change has improved frees and paids 10000%. Please keep the change. The key is to have cheap paids that people are happy to pay. And then frees work and are fun. The whole knockdown effect is remarkably awesome.

I cant overstate how aweomse this change seems. It really really really helps PvP

Yep this patch is no longer a big disaster. Sure the pvp guys are still screwed compared to the pve guys. But thats isnt the pvp devs fault. Its anet management fault for not giving enough resources to the pvp devs.

You only had 1 balance patch since the game release, what makes you think every patch is going to be a balance patch? Just wait till they actually say “balance patch” before getting any hopes up next time.

And the 1 balance patch was pretty much a joke and didn’t really create any new viable builds. There is no reason to get any hopes up for any patch from ArenaNet at this point. They are just going to under deliver and then give PR speak about how great changes are actually on the way.

They never said the balance stuff was in this patch. They only ever mentioned Feb/March in this regard. We were the ones that posted all the stuff about balanced changes in this patch.

I mean I wish there were balance changes too, but we got our own hopes up this time.

All you have to look at is their track record since the release of the game to know that the future patches are going to be a let down as well. They have demonstrated poor design and knowledge of their game since the game has been released and the idea that everything is going to be great 1 or 2 patches down the line is very misguided.

Its because they dont care about pvp. To be blunt thats what it is. Look at the patch notes. Pages of updates for PvE in this “minor” patch and then f all for pvp. Same as december. O and november. Yeh october too. O and dont expect it to change in feb/march. They dont care about pvp. It is too late anyway everyone quit pvp.

Just shows how ridiculous they are. When everyone says either slash or get rid of tickets they actually make the cost higher for time invested. SO dam stupid.

Vapor Form: This skill will no longer allow players to rally off of kills that grant zero experience. This skill will now also properly restore death state on completion.

As someone from a low population server, I look forward to being able to participate in and open up the temple of Balthazar. Around a million Karma saved up for some shards.

Well its actually easier to open balthazaar on a low pop server due to how the event scales. You want about 6 people to do the event most easily and with the lowest fail rate. The difficulty gets very hard the more people you have because people play badly.

I think OP is probably correct. For the most part anyway. A small % of peeps will use it, but I would venture that most of us either brought friends with us or made them on the server we’re playing on.

Yeh anyone I care about playing with is on my server because…you know….I care about playing with them?

Thats true. It will probably be frequently used by people hoping to dodge the Orr events and still get their shards for their legandaries. I forgot about that.

I shall rephrase:

Nobody will use guesting except to dodge actually playing the game and getting the reward nonetheless.

Another complete fail as this will be the most common use of the this really pointless system.

Its such a nothing mechanic. Everything you need to group for (dungeons/fractals) can be done easily cross server anyway.

I really think its massive fail to put so much time into producing this feature. Maybe next time it would be better to actually work on PvP and WvW more than for 5 minutes every day. You know…that huge section of the game which hasnt been updated for 5 months and the one which is dying as a result?

Seriously dont get pumped for this patch. We already got told what was in it and there was nothing but a small (and very welcome) change to paid tournies which only lasts a week and then it reverts back to the completely broken system we currently have which is responsible for pvp in this game being dead.

It is no surprise. Look again what PvE players are getting. New items, new gear, changes to their new dungeon, a whole new reward system with laurels.

Just face it people. If you want to do pvp then its probably worth just moving on from this game. They arent serious about it. They care about PvE. Thats it. We have had 1 new map and thats it. In 5 months. Same for WvW….basically ZERO improvements in 5 months.

But PvE gets BS like guesting (wtf – really nobody cares about this), fractals, reworked dungeons, new items, regular events, new rewards system, constant bug fixes to events, new events, trading post improvements, blah blah blah.

This game is the most PvE orientated MMO I have ever seen. Even more than WoW.

Tactics minor traits, please something better

5: Applies Regeneration (3s) and cure a condition when you dodge roll.
15: Gain Protection (2s.) and cure a condition when you fall below 50% health.
25: Become immune to conditions while reviving.

I think just 5 should stay the same then 15 becomes gain 2s protection and cure a condition at 50% health and 25 should be cure a condition when you dodge roll.

Those would be good changes and might actually make a warrior remotely useful in pvp

It’s to filter out bad people. Maybe you’ve never played free tournaments, but usually I end up facing a team of rank 1s 90% of the time.

I have NEVER paid for tickets and I have more than I will ever need sitting in my bank just from dailies and crafting.

Flawed logic. It’s a cash grab to get people to buy tickets. How are people supposed to get better if they only face other bad players? The fact of the matter is there is no match making system because there is no one playing sPvP. You can go look at the hot join sPvP guy and count the people on the servers. Less than 300-500 people playing at prime time. That server search is cross server. That’s EVERYONE. No one plays sPvP.

They need to figure out a way to make the game enjoyable so people will actually populate it then maybe they could have a matchmaking funtion.

Currently conquest clusterfu&$ mode doesn’t offer the competition most people are looking for. They want player vs player combat. Not AOE circle vs objective combat.

Seriously who thought one game mode would be sufficient for this game? What MMO that has PvP battlegrounds only has one type of game mode? The one with no one playing it. tee hee

The thing is conquest vs other modes or class balance is something which is debated hotly and thats fine.

My point is that all this is kind of irrelevent and nit picking. The major issue as I see it is the structure that arena net has set out with their paids, frees and hotjoins. All have serious problems which is probably why nobody really plays pvp anymore.

GW2 PvP is lucky that the game as a whole is thriving. This means they have the potential to get more people into competitive pvp.

I have played quite alot of RTS games at a high level and the main reason I came to GW2 was the strategy side of WvW. However there is a lot to offer in tPvP because the combat is just fun. But the problems with not having things like solo queues, a matchmaking system and gating the content to only people who have irl money/grind alot of pve or grind a load of glory = a bad system which needs to change.

I think as players of GW2 we can all agree that this needs to happen. So instead of QQing about class balance I think we should QQ about how the game is dying due to a problem with how pvp is structured. We should pressure Anet in this area. There is still hope. People will come back with no sub fee. Its just a shambles at the moment. The potential is there. I hope they will listen to people.

The thing is, no other part of the game has gated content. And yet paid tournys do. You have to spend real money to enter into a paid tourny just to get crushed by some rank 55+ premade who play all day. And Arenanet actually thought people would pay money for the pleasure of getting crushed in round 1??? lol

Its simple maths that paid tournys will continue to shrink as the oldest and best teams will just accumalate all of the “wealth” in pvp and basically push all the competition out of business.

SO now we have a situation where the pvp in this game is utterly crippled. A large part of this is due to the crippling effect of paid tournies.

Let me summarise, with logical facts, the state of pvp in this game. I am giving Anet 2 more months before I join the rest of the pvp community and head for the exits:

1, Hotjoins – meant to be casual friendly. But its just an absolute shambles. It really is no fun as all the games are always imbalanced messes (as people join and leave). Even a game with balanced numbers is a joke as the scoring system rewards zerging from point to point. This means your option is to join the mindless zerg and crush solo runners 4 on 1 OR run solo and cap points and win the game but never win a fight before everytime its time to fight you are against their zerg.

2, Free tournies – bizaarely structured in an 8 team format so even these dont run at all hours of the day in the EU. At peak times they pop almost instantly but when you queue solo the chances are you will run into a premade/partial premade and just get stomped. The times you do play vs a PUG the statistical chance you will get stomped by a premade in round 2 is exceptionally high as all the other PUG teams will of bee eliminated in round 1 by the premades. Thus, by queuing solo you are condeming yourself to a demoralising 500-0 in round 2 very often and sometimes getting destroyed in round 1 instead.

3, Paid tournies – The ticket cost is just ridiculous. Apart from liking to think you are “uber pro” I see no reason why anyone would want to waste tickets on getting stomped by teams which have been honing their skills and teamwork for months. I could lose 2 months worth of tickets in a few days AND just get stomped everytime and have no fun. SO whats the point? Join a team you say? NOPE. No team is going to take players without QP. Or if they do then they are most likely bad and you will get stomped anyway. Thus the whole thing is a mess and a shambles.

Nobody can disagree with the logic I have put forward in this reply. So please dont troll me fanboys. I love this game. But its just got so many problems and there seems no appetite to fix ANY of these problems.

These changes would help:

1, Get rid of tickets to enter paids.
2, Introduce a solo queue so we can find out who the best players are and so solo queuers dont just get stomped.
3, Make all tournaments 1 team vs 1 team so that a matchmaking system is viable without increasing queue times to an unsustainable level.
4, Make a matchmaking system.
5, Change the points system to promote team play in hotjoins.

Why not just have ranked tournaments and unranked hotjoin?

I dont understand why you would want to discourage people from doing ranked tournys by putting some stupid barrier in the way….which is a barrier that means nobody is going to do the “paid” tournys (they arent even “paid” but more like “grind” tournys – to get the tickets).

Just imagine if whenever you wanted to go to WvW the game said “Give me 5 dailies worth of stuff (1 gold) to enter for 15 minutes” (5 tickets = 5 dailies) (5 pve dailies = around 1 gold).

Wouldnt it just be better to introduce a matchmaking system and just make all tournaments have no entry fee but give out ranking points on the basis of a players performance?

Fix the pub stomping

How about making a tournament mode that is only for players who sign up solo, so that the teams are only as organized as random teams can be? I believe such a mode would make pvp in Heart of the Mists much more enjoyable for everyone, except of course for the teams who laugh at the current system as they get easy points and rank for stomping free tournaments.

It is funny how they have the same problem in every MMO out there. All of which die PvP wise in no small part due to noncompetitive games where 1 team just gets stomped by a premade.

I mean look at SWTOR. Its a perfect example. And yet 6 months later GW2 releases with (again) no matchmaking whatsoever. Its just strange how they dont realise that matchmaking is the number 1 thing required. And that the best way to matchmake is to divide solo queuers and premade queuers.

And to the guy who says “join a premade urself”, NO! This is fail logic. Its just as lame stomping some PUG team as it is being stomped.

At this point I dont think matchmaking would work with 8 team tournys. The queues just wouldnt ever pop or the system would have to be so flexible that it would be useless.

I mean what would they do in a paid? Not trigger a tourny to start because 6 teams are higher ranked than the last 2? So everyone has to wait an hour longer? By which time they log off and nobody gets to play at all?

Matchmaking will only work if paid tournys are 1 on 1. I think this is why they are trialing 1 on 1 tournys next week. To check their new system works and then they will move to then 100% of the time when they introduce matchmaking. Otherwise matchmaking will be a bad joke.

State of the Game EP3 - Show Discussion

This is just going to be me speaking from experience.

I feel there needs to be a few things addressed about the two classes I play the most: Elementalist and Warrior.

Ele:
- Down state mist from should not bring an ele’s life back up to half HP. The vapor form already allows very quick movement, and with the sustain that certain ele builds can provide, an ele should not be able to freely waltz into bad positions and have the possibility of not being punished for it because of their down state.

- Healing power or water traits for an ele needs to be tuned down a bit. Again, if an ele has the ability to have that downed state, they should at least give up something for it, but I would just rather they nerf the down state and work on healing power scaling for Eles. At the moment the heals are a bit too high, maybe reduce the flat healing power of eles by 5-10%? The sustain is a bit overboard. I think ballparking it somewhere between 5-10% seems feasible.

- I personally feel like healing power itself needs a nerf flat out across the board for all classes. If anything healing power should receive a 5% flat nerf, and for ele’s an additional 5%. These “bunkers” and “bunker s/d” ele’s that everyone is complaining about isn’t because of their toughness. The bunkers that go the toughness route are sacrificing a large chunk of their stats to receive that toughness for the most part. Healing power (since heals are on such a short cooldown) coupled with things such as sigil of energy and invulns are the true reason behind these bunkers lasting so long in fights.

Warrior:
- The warrior Mending skill should scale better with their HP. Heck, all the warrior heals scale very poorly with their base HP. Mending should remove 3 conditions and have a minor buff to the HP heal or the ratio of HP to healing power for warriors should be buffed. Someone mentioned that warriors have to put themselves in too much danger to be effective (given they are melee), and not having the sustain of other classes to back up their risk is a major liability. Not to mention warriors can be kited fairly easily. Conditions are wrecking warriors where they are at a disadvantage vs most condition builds.

That’s about all I can think of to be honest. A matchmaking system would be awesome. It would make a lot of people happy both new and old.

Wow lol these changes would actually be pretty awesome if coupled with a nerf to protection too.

errmerrgerrd cuz everyone poops out super minions to have a fully functioning team with that don’t have mismatched personalities, and play times perfectly coincide with a no-lifer schedule and get carried godkittenritedude!

@Thief QQ:
Thieves are annoying. They have stupid mechanics, and have an even lower skillcap than most MMO’s have given the invisibility ganker class (which is saying a lot because in almost every MMO the invisibility ganker class is always skilless ganker poop).

However in TOURNEYS they are not OP at all.
In SPvP sure because it’s an invisibility button spammy burst ganker class with built in defense abilities that other classes actually have to gear/spec for, while sacrificing damage. In WvW of course they’re OP because with culling and proper timing the invisibility spamming poop is exacerbated to the nth degree which means most players have 1 second out of 7 to deal enough CC/burst to kill the thief before he’s invisible again, healing/cleansing/initiative regening because of it and about to crit you for another 5-7k.

But in tourneys? Not OP, just annoying and stupidly designed.

Yeh the only issue with thieves is the culling in WvW. I mean you basically double the length of all their stealths. Imagine if the warriors utilities got doubles in time. They would be pretty OP too (for warriors). Imagine 18 seconds o stability on balanced stance or something lol. Imagine fear me doing about 5 seconds of fear.

Untill they fix culling then thieves will be the most annoying experience in WvW.

Well again this patch seems like a disappointment from a feature standpoint. I would guess that the figures in gw2 are showing that PvE is way more popular in gw2 than PvP and that is why Anet have basically hung PvP out to dry. Whilst PvE get regular events, new dungeons, new items, new progression, new maps, constant promotions…..PvP has got….1 new map???? Honestly I think thats the extent of the PvP additions in the same time the PvE side of the game has had some huge content added to it.

Like many others I am losing faith with the PvP side of the game. There are just too many other games out there and I know that all those who left probably wont come back even if they do start to make the changes which PvP needs.

For me the core problem is a balancing problem. But I am talking about a larger scale than the Ele being OP or whatever. Yeh the ele needs to be nerfed and the warrior buffed. But I really dont care about that. I ditched my warrior and dont really care.

What I do care about is having fun. The problem I have is that the builds thats are dominant dont really promote interesting combat. It seems most players are either really hard to get down. So I can just spam everything I have at a guardian bunker with my necro and it takes a while to get him down even with some help. Meanwhile he literally just runs around and dodges peroidically whilst popping some defensive cooldowns. Not a very interesting fight and these are common.

If this isnt the case then you end up fighting some glass cannon who either destroys u in 0.5 seconds or just runs away or just gets counter burst/aoe down inside a second.

So, what do I want from this balance patch? Answer: I Dont care about individual class balance yet. I want substantial changes to make bunker builds less survivable vs balanced builds and to reduce the burst of some builds vs bunker builds and balanced builds.

I dont know how they can do this but if they are to do it then the “small steps” approach to balance that they have taken previously isnt going to work. When something is so fundamentally out of sync so that the pvp game often lacks fun then you need to just make some significant changes.

I am bored of the small steps that we have had for almost 6 months now. It is time for drastic changes which can save the pvp in this game and possibly bring back those who have left for pastures new.

I am sceptical they will do this though. I just dont think its even a remote possibility that you will be able to approach a bunker guardian post patch with a balanced build and be able to put him under any sort of serious pressure. WHich makes me sad.

So in conclusion I hope they use this balance patch to inject some fun into spvp by reducing the effectiveness of bunker and burst builds. I just dont see how this is possible with drastic changes though. And these changes are completely against what Anet has stated publically about liking to make small changes.

GBL was fun and very nerve-wracking today! 

It started with us trying to get our Guild through the queue, due to report that our Doppelgangers (:D) [WvW], and [KISS] were battering their way through Bay Inner; I got through the queue early, and with a total of 8 Guildies made my way to Bay, to find the inner wall at 10% and you guys fortified up top with Trebuchets firing. After some very very tense defending and sallies, classes coordinating and my fellow Commander organising our defensive siege, we were able to repair the wall a bit, then push you out, thanks also to the team of Guildies we sent for the Treb can always count on those guys!

Was very good to finally spar with you, I think [WvW] is the best tbh I think our guilds despite identical tags, focus on slightly different things, and any fight will be close between the two, as indeed it was keep it up, I was impressed by your battle prowess, seemed to keep disappearing at times we had a counter ready!

Probably my second favourite battle of the evening was at Bluebriar, where we got into the Tower just before they took it (breakout, KISS, we figured it was, were at the lord) and hid at the supply depot corner, then buffed and charged, not KISS, but to our surprise UNITY, when they came down, then bunkered down in the Lord Room and fortified our position, sallying out and returning at one point, until we finally took the buffed Lord down, then the Tower, then Commander Siegrazor very fun

I think the highlight of the evening was when we charged [KISS] in Bluevale Refuge, at which point we went in and after a bit of rendering we saw them all standing in the middle of the Supply Depot, waiting, I myself fail shadow stepped into the middle of them when I was downed, but kept on throwing orders – our guys reformed where I asked them to very quickly, healed up, buffed and charged, all together and wiped them, the entire time leaderless and with no one to follow best i’ve ever seen from a PUG group in all honesty!

P.S. What is it with you AG guys and flame rams? [KISS] have already used it twice against my group when I was leading, only the first of which worked, and at Bluebriar tonight when we came down to the Courtyard, subsequent to battering ofd [UNITY] and in the midst of fighting Siegerazor, there were 2 rams there, no one on them or anything, just there, you guys need to place them outside a gate you want to get into, mmmkay?

Indeed that was a very fun battle or set of battles. I thought we could take bay but didnt have the numbers. You guild does very well along with xXx it seems. We almost got your guildies who hit our trebs but were just too late! We got our revenge by zerging them but still it was too late and the 6 trebs were gone.

We have been getting 20-25 people on for events recently but find it hard capping keeps at primetime because none of the other guilds on our server seem to play except fury at prime time. Kiss and unty tend to be on late night.

We had A LOT of arguing in chat with UNTY who were doing a GvG (vs Dz guild) at the same time we were in the lord room of bay. Obviously annoyed alot of us including me but we have forgotton it and obviously really want to keep working with the other guilds on AG.

Maybe me and some others in [WvW] got too mad in chat and so sorry to anyone from UNTY or anyone else in the GvG but obviously you can see why we were annoyed.

Another patch with lots for pve and not pvp?

I only play this game for pvp and wvw. Yet every patch they seem to have 3 pages of updates for pve and like 1 or 2 tiny things for pvp and wvw.

I am sure everyone has noticed declining pvp numbers whilst the rest of the game seems to be thriving (even wvw).

I know the pvp devs are probably as annoyed as the rest of us with the way pvp seems to be ignored in gw2. But can you guys please fight your corner more and get a ton more resources put into pvp!

We really need it. There is so much potential with the fun combat mechanics and cool twitch based gameplay which exists. We just need the meta shaken up (too much bunker seriously) and a load of features which are missing to be added (many of which you have publically said are on your list!).

I am tired of waiting whilst the PvE crowd get everything!

Why Warriors are a Joke in PvP

I play a fair bit of tpvp and won around 100 tourny matches with my warrior (all free and almost all solo queued). So I might not be the best player but I have enough experience to know what I am talking about.

Recently I switched to the necro and was in shock to see how many useful traits and skills they have. I finally feel (and only played necro for 2 days) as if I am useful to my team in tournies or in wvw.

The warrior is utterly useless. I would say that anyone playing it is deliberatly making things hard for themselves. If I can do better with a necro after 2 days than I can with a warrior after 2 monthes then something is clearly wrong.

The problem with the warrior is too fundamental to fix with any balance changes. The traits are just almost all bad. Other classes I often think “wow I would love to pick both of these!”. With the warrior it is more like “wow I have to pick one of these?!?!?!”.

So I dont think the warrior will ever be viable in tpvp in gw2. At least you will have to be carried completely in any team you are in. I have quit warrior for the necro and am loving the changes and the fact that I can deliver serious help for my team in many ways unlike the warrior where you are simply gimped in every encounter.

I just don’t understand how it can take so long to make the warrior playable. I mean its been out ages now this game.

We need about 4/5 gap closers added to some of our weapons like hammer, increase range of shield 4 – stuff like that.

We also need some way to remove conditions. I mean come on. Give us something to work with. Otherwise we wont be viable.

Thats because to hold/cap points you have to stand in a defined circle which makes you an easy target for aoe conditions from necros and rangers or just aoe spam from eles.

There is loads more I could suggest such as:

-making warriors sprint a 20% buff to speed,
-giving us 3 weapons to swap between NOT just 2.
-Making endure pain 5 seconds and reduced cooldown.
-Reduce cooldown of fear me.
-Improve the base heal of mending or make it cure 3 conditions or reduce its cooldown.

Any 2/3 of these combined changes would still leave the warrior as the worst class in the game. So I dont see what the problem is.

Seriously trying to be a warrior is irrelevant unless u like hard mode.

All other classes have power AOE abilities, mobility, stealth, more cc, condition removal, condition builds.

We have nothing viable whatsoever. Just give up and rerole ele, mesmer, guardian

People that look for rewards in WvW should be doing PVE or sPVP…

WvW is about winning and nothing else.

@Korsbaek: HillbilliesRule is correct, there are camps that allow people to be immune if they stand on the corners, I won’t mention which ones because it could become overused, though it’s not meant to work like that so it would be fine to simply report the exploiters.

- Badges?, I get atleast 100 badges per day :/ don’t know what tier you’re in, that could probably be the issue, not enough people to kill.

- Items?, I get atleast 2 gold per day worth of items (without mentioning rares and exotic drops per day, which I mostly break for ecto.)

- Thief/Mesmer culling?, go into a zerg of 40+ people, fight other zerg of 40+ people, you will find warriors, rangers, mesmers, thiefs, necros, etc. hidden everywhere. Culling is a GW2 issue, don’t blame Thiefs and Mesmers about it, the classes work the way they are, culling might give these two a little advantage, but don’t make drama about it because most of the time, a mesmer or thief that goes to kill 1v1 or 1v2 won’t be affected by culling, that means you suck with your character, better check up that PVE full berserker build, because it makes you explode in WvW.

In other words, stop QQing about WvW, it’s fine as it is, just fix the culling and you’re ready to go, guild ranks would be good though not necessary.

If you make gold in WvW then you aren’t helping your server because you are not buying siege or upgrades enough.

Keeps and towers should have a FINAL upgrade which is “Double points from this keep/tower”.

This would make people more likely to visit “dead” maps which are dominated by 1 server (often their homelands) and would mean more EPIC incentives for guilds and commanders to lead EPIC long sieges on keeps which everyone loves.

It would mean less trading un-upgraded stuff for hours on end in 2 minutes sieges and would make everything epic.

It would also add a new layer of stategy. Commanders and guild will have to decide “Do we go for this keep which is easy but only giving them +25” or “do we go for this one giving them +50 but we have to prepare for hours to do it

Thoughts?

I LOVE WvW. Its awesome fun. Anet knocked it out of the park in general but there are some annoyances most of which have already been stated in this thread.

We need more support for wvw and spvp. Whilst PvE gets whole new zones, whole new type of dungeon, amazing rewards (3 gold an hour) and ways to say “I am the best!”, we get nothing.

To echo some of the views above this is what I want:

1, Visible titles – like in planetside 2. If someone has 50k wvw kills I want it in my face and obvious that they are not to be messed with.

2, Culling needs fixing – everyone knows this. Its a problem even in 1 v 1 fights if they are a thief. Thieves aren’t OP at all but the culling makes them waaaaaay OP in wvw.

3, Not be a gold sink – upgrades shouldnt cost gold. You should spend “WvW karma” on it imo. And loot from players should be given a 500% buff or something because no rares ever from a player with like 8k kills is not acceptable imo. BUT PLEASE DONT GIVE NPCS BETTER DROPS OR WVW BE INVADED BY LOOT CHASERS RUNNING CAMPS!

4, Better general rewards – 1 type of exotic gear which takes at least 10 times as long to get as you can craft 10 different types or get 10 different types from dungeons? REALLY!?!?!? When ascended gear comes unless you can get ALL the types of ascended gear (all stats) from wvw then its just the usual middle finger to the pvp community.

Combat 10/10

The core gameplay is fantastic. Gone is the requirement for tedious keybind management and macros which dominate other MMO pvp. In comes twitch mechanics like dodging and basically far more skill that ever before. Now you win if you are skilled and not if you play more (for more gear) or download add ons to gain an advantage. In short the core gameplay is nothing short of brilliant. Some people hate it because its skill and twitch based and they suck. But thats life. There is a ton of other mmo’s (almost all failed) which they can go to if they just like clicking buttons and dont have the skill for gw2.

Features for PvP 3/10

I love conquest in all games. And its not a problem for me with it being only this game type. But there are so many other features that are missing or badly designed. We all know what is missing (anet knows too) and we know what sucks (anet doesnt know). I only play tpvp because hotjoins are very dull and lame. The points system is to blame for rewarding zerging and making the whole thing ultra lame. If you play properly in gw2 hotjoin you wont get much glory, wont get many points and wont have fun because you will help your team win but you will just get zerged and die over and over. Not very fun. This should be something they change asap as its probably a culprit for a slightly declining pvp in a game which is otherwise thriving to a ridiculous extent (game of the year, worlds still full, wvw packed still, etc etc).

Balance and meta-game 0/10

This is where the whole things falls down for me. Currently the meta and gameplay is dominated by a few roles. That is the ultra bunker who just sits on graveyard or keep or clocktower and shuts it down and the mega glass cannon which is the only way to really burst down a bunker fast enough (with help) before he gets reinforcements. The whole of tpvp revolves around the guardian and the mesmer. The guardian is just flat out too strong. Sure a engie and an ele bunker can be annoying and hard to kill. They might even be slightly too hard to kill. But it isnt game breaking for me. What is gamebreaking is the power of the guardian to just shut a point down for the whole match. I dont know how long till we see some guardian nerfs and probably a nerf to retliation and protection. The mesmer is also too strong. Anet need to reverse the might change and nerf the shatter build in another way to reduce the power of this class. They have already said they intend to nerf AoE abilities which is welcome as currently necros well spamming needs to be bought under control whilst also giving them other ways to operate (I think).

Basically untill bunker builds are bought under control then balanced builds wont be viable and tpvp will be bad. Protection and retaliation need to see significant nerfs and so does the guardian. Then we might start to see some new builds coming out. Yes the mesmer is way too strong but the meta is still defined by guardian bunker builds. Everything else feeds off this.

I dont understand why the warrior is so dependent on others.

I mean its meant to be a WARRIOR. The ultimate fighter. Not some weakling who gets owned by magic dudes or stuff.

A warrior should have the capacity to be resilient and put out damage. THe should be the ABSOLUTE king of in your face melee on melee battle. If any other class goes toe to toe with a warrior they should lose. They have other advantages which can easily give them the edge vs the warrior anyway.

There are ALOT of people who like playing how I do. We like to dive into combat and have a scrap. Anet made it impossible for us to do that. Which probably alienates alot of people from pvp because our game style isnt viable. Please anet give us the chance to be ruthless warriors who just love to get involved in fights on our own!

When I PUG in a tournament I always look to see if we have a guardian. If we dont and they have a competent one then I pretty much resign myself to defeat. The guardian is just too good to be honest.

Downed state adds depth, teamwork and role versitality to spvp that would otherwise not be there. I shudder to think how bad pvp would be without this feature. I would say its the feature I most care about in the game. If it got removed I would quit instantly.

Wanna kill a Necro Bunker? Leave the point and let any attrition thief, ele, guardian, memser just solo him. You will win 100% of the time. It should be that way for every bunker. Without a group to fortify you, yer just an empty building. PERIOD

Like a shout warrior. There should be support and damage type builds. Not just total tanks which cannot be taken down.

Anet can do that by buffing the traits/utilities related to this build within team scenarios IMO. Nerfing classes ability to mitigate damage will actually end up killing support if all you have to do is just cleave the crap out of points with AOE damage.

Imagine the Necro metagame now, but way worse.

Well I kind of actually don’t care how they do it.

It isn’t my job to fix the dullness of spvp in this game. They will have to find a way. I am calling the main problem being that bunker “indestructable” builds are both encouraged in the gameplay mechanic and way too hard to kill. I also think glass cannons have too much power. They need to make a game where more builds are viable. ATM only glass cannons and bunker builds – extremem builds which are not fun generally – are viable.

I dont care how they do it, but I do know that people are bored of pvp right now because its stagnant and based around bunker builds and glass cannons rather than around builds which can kill people and yet can be killed.

The problem is that spvp and tpvp in particular is just flat out dull and terrible.

WvW = amazing fun – diverse builds etc
PvE = amazing fun
TPvP = 2 bunkers on 2 points then 3 roamers between all game. Winner of 1 team fight wins the whole match.

aka = really terrible anti fun. You have to either change the system or seriously nerf bunker builds. Atm the whole thing is an out and out disaster

O and the whole “small changes” to balance and bunker/burst means this game wont be fun fro probably about 5 years. I would advise anyone who gets this game for spvp to not bother. The rest of the game is amazing though so congrats on that. Great game. spvp = a bad joke.

Simply put, the way in which the capture system is designed is wrong, it needs to be changed so if you have more players than the other team on the point – you start capping the point.

Constantly nerfing a build will not fix the issue, adjusting the capture system will.

That won’t change the problem either.

It will only lead to teams comps shifting into 3-2 ( with a double bunker + necro or triple bunker) or 4-1, with 3 or 4 going to the center.

Bunker would rule even more supreme, since glass crap will be beaten in a second and won’t be able to contest the point, since in a “moar person = point captured” the more you can stand in there, with more people, the more you’re going to capture.

This game needs huge nerfs on bunker-burst maximizing.

Bunker guards/ele and shatter mesmer/ D/D or S/P thieves and all burst needs to be toned down, along with haste.

Basically, all bunkers should be like necro and warriors and enges , and all burst should be around a ranger spamming rapid fire.

Then you’ll see balanced builds popping up like mushrooms, and the game will FINALLY be fun both to play and to watch.

Bunker warrior is perfect. Can die in a 1 v 1 but is surviable. This is what anet should go for or tpvp will die even more.

I agree 100%. If they want us to have a problem with conditions and boons then thats fine (we will always be the worst class in the game if we cant remove conditions though).

But at least give warriors SOMETHING to work with by actually making us good at what we should be good at. I 100% agree with OP. Endure pain is laughably bad and needs some serious improvements. The heals are also next to worthless as they dont heal for enough.

Here are my changes:

1, Make the burst heal on the healing signet 30% higher
2, Reduce the cooldown of the healing surge to 25 seconds from 30 seconds
3, Make mending remove 3 conditions not 2 conditions
4, Reduce the cooldown of endure pain to 60 seconds from 90 seconds
5, Improve the rampage ultimate move by making the cooldown 120 seconds from 180 seconds
6, Give warrior sprint a 15% speed buff not a 10% buff
7, Reduce the cooldown of fear me to 60 seconds from 80 seconds (absurdly long)
8, Decrease the cooldown of all banners by 20%
9, Make balanced stance also give protection
