I dont agree with everything ITT but there is one think I think is key and that is solo queue.
It is unrealistic to expect people to stay as part of a team if they are to play the game competitively. You have to have some way for the majority of people to play competitively and that can only be solo queue with a ranked ladder associated with this solo queue. Sure you can have monthly/weekly prize tournaments for full teams but the core of the game should be based around solo queue because that is what most people are able to work with.
I mean say you have a team how likely is it all 5 will be on at the same time? Very unlikely. How likely is it that all 5 will stay and enjoy the game? Very unlikely. How hard is it to then find a team? Near impossible. So can you then play competitevly? No not really.
keeping 8v8 hotjoin will be a colossal MISTAKE. at least make it 5v5, if not taking it out altogether.
No it has to be 8 vs 8 because 5vs 5 just becomes 5 vs 3 or 4 vs 2 too often.
I expect the limited features they have announced but maybe with a shake up of the tournies to create weeklys, a ladder and/or single matches for frees. Some combo of these features.
As for balance, I hope for significant balance changes and substantial ele nerfs to bring them in line but I think we will see minor changes which will result in QQ from eles but in practice will still leave ele’s as the undisputed kings of pvp

You missed the point I think mate. Qps mean more than rank because whilst both show grind Qps show grind in tpvp whilst ranks shows grind in hotjoins.

QPs obviously dont mean a ton but to say it means less than rank is laughable. I mean farming rank can be done exclusively in hotjoin (its quickest in hotjoin) with zero skill following the zerg. To WIN a ton of tournments obviously means more than farming hotjoin. Last time I looked paid tournaments were harder than hotjoin. I really dont get what this guy is on lol

Rank requirements are reasonable…
In this game, rank DOES at least indicate the time you’ve spent pvping…and as a previous poster said, it is a justification that you know what you’re doing.
HOWEVER, I do a lot of high-tier tpvp and I’ve played with/against many 30-40+ people who aren’t up to caliber…BUT I can assure you that they are better than the lvl 10s and 20s mostly.
Since rank is so hard to level in this game, it just indicates the amount of time you’ve dedicated to it…and if you’ve spent so much time pvping, chances are you WILL get better with rank. Even if you’re a hotjoin hero, you would (normally) at least know the ins and outs of your class. You may not know how to properly play with a group in tpvp, but at least you can hold your own.
QPs however, is a joke. Some of the people with the highest QPs are mediocre at best. I don’t understand why people advertise for QP requirements for pvp.
You think rank requirements are resonable, when most people have done most of their rank in hotjoin.
And yet you think that QPs are a joke when all they are is essentially a rank for paid tournaments which show how much you have played in paids just like rank shows how much you have played at all?

And yeh this is a serious problem. I have made threads on it before. I dont understand why people ask for r30+ for frees lol. Its pretty easy to win a free even with a pug if you play well. At least alot of the time…
When I do a group I request any class and any rank. Sure its frustrating sometimes but so is finding a r40+ group because even then alot of rank 40s have no clue. And people who request high ranks are often bad.

Anet seem to focus this game on pve. Even the pvp/wvw updates has more for pve than anyone else.
Corrupt boon = blocked by aegis which is gained by the thieves steal spell from the guardian (I think). Anyone manage to reproduce this?
Jagged horror should for sure die alot slower.

Would be cool to allow a tanky necro to have a 12k elite heal available.
In my view we shouldnt get hit by the aoe nerfs. Our aoes dont do much damage at all and are more based on applying conditions.
The aoe helps us control the battlefield but makes us weaker in 1v1 fights than we would be running something like d/d for the single target damage. This is exactly how anet have described that they want aoe to work.
Is anyone concerned for our staff in pvp? I cant see it being a problem….can you?
If you are a power necro then mostly you will just die to a bs thief unless you get lucky. Thats just the way it is. This is a 30/30/10/0/0 necro without any toughness I am talking about.
You will die. Thats the downside of running such a glass cannon build probably without stun breakers.
Rating is important because it is, itself, a reward for PvPing. There is value in PvPing due to a visible rating.
I dont disagree with this. I just think the unintended consequences of introducing it is going to suck more than the rewards of introducing it for the majority of people. I dont see how you can rate people individually in a team game anyway. It is just going to promote people being selective who they play with which is particularly terrible for new players.

Nobody will play with them or it will hurt their rating.
Already there is so much elitism within the community. People (often average players) demand certain ranks and requirements. When you then get into games with these people (lfg r45+ etc etc) then they are almost always terrible which makes their elitism bizarre.
Anyway, with that being said, imagine if they added visible ratings which people were protective over. It would be a complete disaster in terms of managing to get into a team or to get a team together.
Even with no visible ratings people will leave based on team make up (lol) and based on peoples ranks (lol). Most people already want to be carried and it makes group finding a complete kittening disaster to be honest with you.
If they want to add visible ratings it has to be alongside a solo queue otherwise you are condemning people to have to dive into the community head first to find teams, and most people will just get kitten off and quit because of all the average elitists (elitists who are themselves not good) that exist in this game.
Please dont bring in visible ratings! Just have weekly/monthly tournies for bragging rights and just bring in a solo queue if you must have visible ratings.

I think we will end up with nerfs to evasive arcana (30 second internal cd instead of 10) . This could well be coupled with a minor increase to RTL cd and a slight nerf to soothing mist.
I dont think this is enough. But it would be a start at least and maybe the meta could then develop.
On a side note the trait shrug it off triggers every 30 seconds whereas the utility shake it off triggers every 25 seconds. This means the ele cleansing wave trait should trigger every 50 seconds instead of every 10 seconds. That would be fair and balanced.
As for shout warriors: no stability shout = no shout warrior in pvp. I tried it. My main was a warrior. All my game time is on a warrior and all on a shout warrior. I tried to make it work and it doesnt work. Its bad because you have no stability on any of your shouts. So you can remove conditions but now u just get feared/knocked back/stuned etc etc to death. Hardly fun.
Give me 24k passive hp and heavy armor and you can have my heals, my 13k hp and light armor.
I so wish I could take you up on this deal. People who talk about HP pools and armour as if that is remotely useful are just wrong in my view. You can have a 30k hp warrior get killed in the blink of an eye. Abilities which save you and heals are how to survive in this game.

Everyone I know gets sick of the same map after about 4 days. We love all the maps. They are great. But too much of anything sucks. Give us rotation!
The current tournament system doesn’t support random maps yet. Though we recognize that players would like more variety, so we might either rotate the map more often, or offer multiple 1-round tournaments, so you can queue for a specific map.
Rotate more often of those options. Although that is just a personal view and I am sure you have logical reasons for each.
Multiple queues sounds confusing and it would fracture the player base to the point where matchmaking would probably be less effective.
From those I know and myself, we tend to get sick of any map after about 4 days. If you swapped every monday and thursday or something (so 3-4 days each map) then this would be awesome cool and would, for me, be almost as good as map rotation.

I think a redesign of free tourneys is already in the works. I would be fine with paids being the only game mode playable by a 5-man team. Honestly, though, just switching frees to the same format as paids—single match with matchmaking—would go a long way to fixing the problem.

Their mobility is unparalleled because Ride the Lightning is unaffected by slows. An Ele can be crippled, or chilled, or both, and zip away with RtL at full speed and at maximum distance. Even if you think you’re smart and try to immobilize them, it’s not like Eles are condi-cleansing-deprived like Warriors are – Nope, they have the means to cleanse immobilizes quite easily. No matter what you do to the Ele, if the Ele wants to GTFO, he will indeed GTFO with great success.
Some of the strongest defensive cooldowns in the game (Ele’s shocking and chill auras) are instant cast. Where is the opportunity cost in that? You would think that such powerful abilities would provide some room for counter-gameplay; Nope.
Ele’s damage is extraordinarily efficient and powerful because some of their hardest-hitting abilities also come with a 100% critical hit chance built into them. So, Eles don’t need to build crit chance and be glassy like everyone else to do damage. Eles can skip the Berserker’s Amulet, have defensive traits and armors, and still rock out the big damages due to their ability mechanics.
Yeh. I reackon its a bug RTL not being effected by chills/cripple. It makes no sense. And the cleansing wave 10s cooldown is laughable.
Look at the warriors defy pain – 90 second cooldown – the same as the warrior skill. Its the same through every portion of the game except ele. The passive should have the same cd as the active.

Currently on the Eu there are about 50 full servers = about 700 players
Paids pop instantly most times = Must be 50 paid matches going on at a time = 500 players
Frees pop about every 5 -10 minutes = prob 5-10 going on at a time = 250 players
I reackon at any 1 time in the EU there are about 1500 players in game and many more in the mists.

Rank is a terrible indicator of skill. But its not nothing.
Take a random sample of twenty people rank 40. And a random sample of twenty people rank 20. The odds are extremely high that the rank 40 people, on aggregate will be more skilled.
Even though it could well be true that in several instances it doesnt hold.
So it doesnt mean nothing, its a fitler, abiet a weak one.
I suppose you are correct. It just annoys me to see people say 40+ then they are horribad and we lose. Then they moan at some level 29 in the group who was actually good. lol
As a player who has been doing WvW for the first few months of the game. Mainly small group vs zergs, I recently found my way to sPvP. After playing the hotjoin for quite some time, I discovered the tournament system.
However, I soon found out that most in map only take 35+ and 40+ in rank for these tournaments.. Even a few time when there was no rank requirement in the announcement, I was asked for my rank (19) and kicked from those parties without a single word or explanation. The few times that a group actually kicked off it was challenging, but not impossible; and as rank only brings more cosmetic rewards instead of better gear as in PvE, I wonder why it is a requirement to join sPvP groups?
So players who just farm hot join in a zerg are more skilled in PvP than those who know how to play their profession but haven’t been in sPvP since day 1? Or are forced to farm dull hotjoin matches for days in order to enjoy challenging PvP?
I agree it sucks. However those asking for such requirements in chat are themselves noobs generally.
Rank literally means nothing. I have seen signet warriors at rank 42 in paids and I have played with and against very strong players who are level 11.
My advice is to solo queue frees and win enough to get the champion x tag which should then prove your skills irrespective of rank.
Rank is a terrible judge of skill. It completely sucks but I would just create your own group maybe saying lfm rank 10-20. Then make and team and crush some rank 40’s

Play with pugs. Add people to friends list who are decent then arrange groups via freinds list. Thats my advice.
As for random dudes. Matchmaking has solved this. I play with randoms all the time in paids and if they are bad then we play vs equally bad players so its fine.
I solo queue frees and the 4vs 5 problem has become problematic since now less people play frees because everyone realised how bad a 8 team tournament was compared to a quick 1v1 tourny. So the queues last longer and people dont unreg when they shut the client down and go to bed. This means you end up with 4 dudes vs 5 and its hard to win esp as all 4 man teams are just random solo queuers usually. .
Agree with most of what is said here. Its pretty lame that the feb patch and march patch was meant to be spvp and wvw focussed.
And yet in the patch there is only a new pvp map (nothing else and nothing at all for wvw) and yet more whole new types of content for pve.
So February = yet another pve patch. Even the big pvp/wvw patches of feb amd march are turning out to be pve patches.
GW2 = they only care about pve.
Having played a big charr all the time in spvp, switching to asura… lol, what a difference.
I think its best to learn pvp on a charr/norn and then switch to asura. Helps to get targetted alot to learn! And how to know to stop people seeing your animations as a norn then makes you an even better asura.
I think you need a mix or norn and asura on a team. Maybe norn mesmer and guardian and the rest asura.

Yeh the necro traits are frustrating in how they scatter around those traits which work together and really make you sacrifice alot to take them.
No big enough nerfs imo.
Really people shouldn’t use stream numbers as an indication of much. Its better people playing than watching the game. And there are technical issues with twitch which are effecting alot of the smaller unpartnered channels. Twitch seems to be struggling to cope with the massive demand from league stream/tournaments and this is making most of their other streams unwatchable for a large number of people.
We know ele’s are getting toned down. Its probably on the same patch on the 26th (though thats speculation).
I dont think a situation where you have to use a certain class to win should be allowed to persist this long. How hard would it be just to ninja patch the ele before this time? Plus I am not holding my breath on these nerfs. Not sure Anet realise just how strong eles can be. I mean even average eles are a powerful tool for a team.
If you run an ele this is what you do:
1, Send ele to far point
2, He keeps that decapped unless they send at least 2 dps classes to kill him
3, If they do this you can win middle and near point because you outnumber them.
4, If they dont do this then you have to win a 4 on 4 or 3 on 3 at centre to basically 3 cap the whole map and win the game after 20 seconds.
5, Even if they do send people back to near to kill the ele there is no guarantee they will manage it. And even if they cap it they wont kill the ele who will just run away. Then return with his reinforcements from middle to kill those at far and 3 cap the game.
If you dont have an ele you cant do this and end result = you lose the game.
The only reason some people dont see how OP eles are is because they dont play vs good enough people. WIth matchmaking more and more people will be kept away from playing vs elite eles. But elite eles are just dominant. No other class that I fight do I feel like “wow I have literally no chance”….. except the ele. They are unkillable for me (necro) as I am too slow and their condi removal/heals too good. And yet they can kills me pretty fast and I cant do a thing about it. If I get the upper hand they just run off. Reset to max health and come back. Meanwhile I will still be on 70% health waiting for my heal to come off cooldown. Yeh its impossible…
I recommend significant nerfs to a significantly OP class that are REQUIRED to win at this game:
1, Reduce their healing in water by around 50% and 1-2 conditions
2, Raise the cd of RTL to 25 seconds
With these changes ele will still be amazing imo.

To be honest I agree with OP partially. Balance changes are way too slow. How long do we have to play in a world where elementalists are just utterly dominant before we get some changes. It is getting boring now. You would of thought that such a severe OP class would be bought down more urgently than what it has done.
It really shouldn’t be that surprising, the exact same problem happens in team queue for league of legends.
Match-making doesn’t benefit hardcore players all that much. Once a team has reached the top of the rating spectrum, the queues get longer as there is less and less competition.
The alternative is to let hardcore teams stomp even more noobs all day which has already destroyed the population.
This is why a solo queue is necessary. By constantly mixing up the teams and skill levels the game remains challenging even for hardcore people.
Agreed. Matchmaking is needed. Sure you dont get to stomp random teams but so what. Thats not fun for them believe it or not. The pvp population is growing now finally and I would guess it is mainly due to people not getting stomped by top players everytime when they are learning the game.
If your way better than everyone else then what do you expect? You will own every time. So maybe dont run in 3 month old teams and branch out and play in other parties with random dudes.
I honestly cant believe people are against matchmaking. Its bizaare. Or against the 1v1 system where you can play in minutes at any time of the day.
Weekly and monthly tournmanets will give teams who are regulars together something to aim for and train towards. With qualification for these by doing paids. Thats what I think they are going for and its a perfect idea imo….
I play necro and warrior. Necro seems fine and warrior seems weak to me.
Most 1 v 1 as a necro are hard (engie prob easiest for us). 100b warrior is hard sometimes believe it or not. They can get to you and kill you fairly easily. 1 Whirling blade and 1 eviserate = death more or less.
All other classes have a big 1 v 1 advantage vs most necro builds. The main reason for this is that the necro build is often purely based around team fighting on a point. I am sure there are possible good dualling necro builds (minions when they fix ai) but at present those arent really the most powerful. I mean the signet of undeath isnt going to help you 1 on 1 and niether are wells vs a ranger or something.
This is just a 1 on 1 in open ground. We gain more of an advantage if we are fighting over a point due to our aoe with marks and s/d.
I would say the hardest 1 on 1 is by far a bas venom berserker thief. You should never win that in open ground running a glass cannon power well suffering/well corruption/sig undeath build. Unless you have plaugue available.
Ya I am sure. I have been paired with and against people I know from other servers often in frees and in paids.
Like Powerr Mentioned the fact that teams are playing eachother multiple times in a row is a problem that should be dealt with. PZ constantly faces the same team and knows that its that team so there is no fun in it, especially if there winning without trying everytime. At some point the game will become tedious, and uneventful. I reccomend that the devs crack down on this problem before the top teams just get bored and quit.
Yeh but you dont want to just matchmake them with lower ranked players just for the sake of it letting them stomp different people every match. There should be some system which prevent you facing the same team over and over but I dont think its a priority for all but a tiny minority of the player base. And if thats the best other team out there then why shouldnt they player each other over and over? it will give both teams the closest match…..
So it’s basically like old paids, except instead of beating two scrubs before playing one of the other top three teams you just wait, and then play one of the other top three teams?
Sorry, matchmaking can’t fix that. If anything, over a period of time, matchmaking will help it tremendously because new players will stick around instead of leaving.
I think I agree. We shouldn’t be blaming the system. It’s not the matchmaking system’s fault if there are just a handful of good teams getting matched up with each other over and over. It’s because of a very low PVP population that even tries queuing for tourneys which is caused by the lack of direction and incentives to new players to try out the tournament system. Heart of the Mists right now is not very newb friendly.
Paids are very popular in the eu right now. I would be surprised if there isnt at least 30-50 matches going on at all times in paids right now (except at the worst hours). I guest on alot of other heart of the mists and there is always groups being formed in map chat as well as within friends lists and guilds.
If NA is dead then I suggest moving to an EU server. If you are claiming that Eu is dead for paids then I disagree. The player pool is pretty big since the changes.

Matchmaking is the best thing ever. You have to have it so people stick with the game and become the players of “tomorrow” who will be kicking your kitten when they get enough playtime and experience under their belt
Consume conditions is bugged vs the ranger binding roots elite. You use your heal to get rid of the roots but this only happens very briefly and then you get binding roots on you again and immobalised again. Not sure why this is but its dam annoying.
I can confirm that Corrupt Boon misses enough that, for me personally, I don’t feel I can rely on it. As a result, I don’t have it on my skill bar any more.
Above post mentions a projectile component and that seems like it might be correct. There appears to be a slight delay between cast and effect (when it does work) and perhaps this delay is actually the cast time of an “invisible” projectile which could theoretically be blocked by clones/pets/pebbles/blades of grass/errant molecular detritus.
Suggestion: Change Corrupt Boon so it operates in the same way as Epidemic / Tides of Blood? i.e. no LOS required so we can rely on a hit. Until it is reliable, it’s pretty much a useless skill for me.

You start the stomp then go into plague form to finish it off when you badly need a stomp.
Works well in a 1 v 2 or 2 on 2 where u have to stomp that guardian. Sometimes you can stomp then tank a point in plague form too.
