Good spvp Build for beginners?

Hi guys. New to mesmer, but not spvp. I have about 500 games as warrior and am wanting to start branching out to other profs.

I am wondering what is suggested for someone that is just starting on mes. I was looking at the IP builds listed on metabattle, but they seems a little squishy to start with.

Full builds or links would be appreciated. Up to date videos would be ace if possible.

Native 64-bit game client for this release?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Lucky.9421

When they started programming for GW2, it was no later than 2007, possibly earlier.
64 bit systems were pretty uncommon at the time.

In Anet’s defense, I do not know of any games that began production pre-2007 that have 64 bit clients.

I have heard that the GW2 engine is based on the GW1 engine but can not remember where. That started production in 2001.

It would be a worthy investment if they can squeeze some performance out of such a change. GW2’s performance is really disappointing compared to it’s contemporaries, whereas GW1 stood above the pack in its time.

Wow this got heated.

I want to briefly point out that, though I believe the origin of the Sylvari was planned since GW1, I do think think that there were problems with how the story eventually got here.

I think they could have gotten to this point in the story arc in 6 months, if they had cut out all of the filler, instead of the 28 months that it has taken.

They dragged us along for far too long and that has caused some rage, at least from me. I still think it is a neat twist.

I do not know if Sylvari of the Pale Tree are sleeper agents. I think they slipped away(partially) from the Dragon’s control when Ronan took the seed away and brought it to Ventari. That was probably not part of the Dragon’s plan.

Now that Mordremoth is awake, it may be trying to re-establish control over them…through dragon mind control or something.

I bet Glint’s egg is important because Glint was able to rebel against her master. It may contain some secret to freedom for the Sylvari.

The sylvaris’ origins have been part of their design from the very beginning, since well before we launched the game. Kudos to those who figured it out before the revelation.

The thing I don’t understand about Ronan is why he took the seed in the first place.

Maybe he sensed something strange and unearthly about the cave and creatures therein, and swiped the seed simply as a curiosity.

Humans tend to do that. We are curious and meddlesome.

Or maybe Mordremoth got into his head? o_O

There are several plant creatures in game who do not seem to be Mordrem.

Are they terrible plant creatures? The only plant creatures I can think of are treeants, which are neutral.

That said, I think there is room in the GW universe for plant creatures that are not Mordremoth’s as there are undead that are not Zhatan’s.

Besides I just read a dev say in another thread that “The sylvaris’ origins have been part of their design from the very beginning, since well before we launched the game.”

Even the way the cave is described in Ronan’s story is very similar to the caves we go into in the Silverwastes.

Well before the announcement of Sylvari as a race and 5 years before GW2 was released. I felt this should be acknowledged in its own thread.

From PC Gamer’s Movement of the World article in 2007:

This story began with a human soldier named Ronan whom, [sic] while separated from his patrol, discovered a cavern filled with strange seed-pods. This cavern was protected by terrible plant creatures, so he fled, clinging to a single seed to show his daughter when he returned home from war. But, upon his arrival, Ronan discovered the Mursaat had destroyed his village and murdered his family, leaving only ruined houses and mass graves. In agony, he planted the seed on their graves and swore never to return to battle.

Terrible plant creatures? In a cavern underground? The seed that would grow into the Pale Tree belonged Mordremoth all along!

So, in other words the most cited, fanfiction-ish and unfounded theory since beta was supposedly one of anet’s story’s greatest mysteries?

I hope that isn’t something the writers are proud of.

I don’t even really know what to say. Just wow. Lame.

It was foreshadowed in GW1, in 2007. Predating even the announcement of Sylvari as a race.

Lucky.9421

maybe we should compare between gw 1 developement and guild wars 2 development

Gw1 transition from prophecy to faction
20 or more new maps
tons of new monsters
2 new class
tons of new skills

this took about 1 or 2 years

GW 2 over 2 years
Redesign of the game questing and lvling
Redesign of wardrobes
1 new healing skill
1 new map and 2 new dungeons
redesign of lion arch
constant new story arc

In the end on a developement timeline its prety much similar but they have shifted focus elsewhere then on class themselves.

Corrections:

  • Exactly 1 year from the release of Prophecies(GW1) was Factions
  • Only 6 months from the release of Factions was Nightfall
  • 10 months after the release of Nightfall was EoTN

So it only took 2 years and 4 months after the release of GW1 for all of that new content.

In 2 months, it will have been 2 years and 4 months since GW2’s release.

And then we can really compare.

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

May be a bit late but here it goes.

1. The Halls should fit within the world’s themes and there should be at least a few different ones to choose on the first release, much like GW1’s varied selection.

2. They should be fleshed out visually and seem livable. Examples: dining hall, sleeping quarters, training areas, war planning room. And maybe a ship if you go the route of making every guild hall an island a la GW1.

3. Traders and bankers so that the hall will have a practical use and give guildies something to do as they form up between runs.

Well as the CDI inherently a discussion among players and developers and in no way a commitment on the side of the developers to do any work… Well unless guild halls have been in development for a while now I’d say we won’t see anything for at least 6 months (very optimistically) if at all. Although that being said, I’m rather excited at the prospect myself

I know. I have been playing Anet’s games since 2005. 6 months won’t kill me.(Though I think it should have been there at release)

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lucky.9421

Tequatl is not hard gameplay. The gameplay is just following rote keyboard rotations; a problem with many MMOs.

The difficulty is in logistics. It all falls on the few that recruit and organize the run.

If we want to make The Shatterer more fun, we should really look at the gameplay. Throw in some randomness to his attacks, so we are not just stacking and DPS.

And those who say TQ is not a ghost town. Not now. It pretty much was for a long time, except for one guild that did it primarily. It is much better now that we have megaservers.

They need to reduce the non-dust ingredients for those consumables. They make it too expensive.

I seem to remember A-net stating that their Dev Teams are working on BOTH LS content and expansion content. It’s no different than they did w/ GW where they had 1 team working on Sorrow’s Furnace and another on Factions. When they released Sorrow’s Furnace that team moved on to Nightfall and when Factions released that team moved to EotN.

Yeah… that Anet is gone. Don’t get your hopes up.

LW is all we got.

Edit – Oh btw Anet only worked on SF and Factions at the same time. After Factions most of the team were on NF. After NF most moved on to EoTN.

Some concept and design people were always ahead of the bulk of the development team though, so that when a release went gold, the designers had some materials to look at for the next project.

It was a good system. Anet was so much more efficient in those days.

sigh So this whole issue is a result of human inability to get along. As usual. This is why we can’t have nice things, etc. etc.

Maybe in time the old wounds will heal. Those with political power in China/Japan/Korea are still old enough to remember or are only one generation removed.

Give it another 10-15 years. They’ll retire and the 2nd/3rd generations will come into power(Gen-Xers, Millennials). Then things will get better.

Yeah, it kind of sucks that politics gets in the way of gaming. Our next generation should probably do its best to avoid wars or something.
