I’ve had decent fun running a D/D Deathblossom build using Signet of Malice and Assassin’s Reward with Settlers Amulet/gear. Viability is a whole different issue but there’s a build there. It’s pure attrition but holds a point well and has some amount of sustain power in a team fight (especially if the point is small or there are minions/spirits abound).

Signet of Malice and AR always seem like a basket full of fun to me on paper, but I can never get around the math that Signet of Malice is only ever more effective than Withdraw if I’m doing more than 2 attacks per second on average. If you get CCed at all, or your enemy evades, or etc. etc. etc., then Withdraw is usually just a better choice for 1v1 fights.

It does seem like Signet has a big potential to outshine the tumble when things get crowded though. The downside is that since you can never activate it, you can never use fun Rune sets that trigger when you activate a heal, or Hastened Replenishment, or stuff like that.

Retreat! What do our shout represents?

This has always bothered me, and frankly, I think it speaks to ANET’s idea of the Guardian role.

Obviously Guardians should Retreat (20s swiftness on 60s timer for 33% swiftness uptime), because a Warrior’s job is to Charge (10s swiftness on a 15s timer for 66% swiftness uptime.)

Getting the picture here? Yeah…just Retreat.

The old Shattered Aegis was only good in a very specific burn/retaliation build, but at least it was good for SOMETHING. New Shattered Aegis doesn’t do anything for anyone.

I was actually kind of missing this trait when messing around with the builder today, as I was thinking about re-visiting the block/burn/retaliation build. Imagine, conditions on Guardians just got worse than they were a minute ago. Insane, right?

New SPvP Daily Achivements

Ludus Rex.1562

You may want to take a read through the thread in my signature

may I ask, what are the new dailies? X number of wins in each arena? How many wins, and is there anything else?

Ewon, I read through the original posts from the thread linked in your signature. Your position seems very silly to me.

I understand that there are completionists who enjoy getting as many achievement points as possible.

I understand that there are leaderboards, and that maintaining position in these requires work, dedication, and is a major aspect of the game for some people, including yourself.

I understand that introducing new dailies with harsh time requirements means that to continue to maximize AP on a daily basis would require a much greater investment of time, and that not everyone can reasonably make this time commitment?

So what? Wait, no, this isn’t blind hate, let me explain.

A leaderboard should be relative. It should be your position relative to the position of those who are competing with you on the same terms. A PvP leaderboard, for example, measure the win:lose ratio for those who are competing against each other in PvP.

The achievement leaderboard, as far as I can tell, measures the total number of AP one has gained versus the AP others have gained. While I’m sure there is some skill factor here, the major emphasis of this leaderboard and completionist activities in general, is time invested. Who has spent more time achieving all that can be achieved. That’s what’s being measured, and that’s what people are competing for.

As far as I can tell, your stance is that these dailies increase the time investment on a daily basis to stay at maximum AP. But doesn’t your leaderboard already favor those who started AP farming earlier? Since dailies are factored in, people who got this game 6 months later can’t hope to catch up, provided you put in the time to do the current dailies, right?

Okay, well now new completionists who have more time to dedicate (the only thing that the current AP board measures, as far as I can tell, is time dedicated to achieving) will have a chance to prove that they are more hardcore, more time invested achievers than you. That’s what, damaging to your ego?

A leaderboard is your position relative to those you’re competing with. APs gained are a measure of time invested achieving. Why should there be a cap on what’s achievable, just so a select few can maintain a vanity standing?

One of two things can happen: Either A) people continue to invest only a reasonable amount of time in dailies, in which case the standings don’t change and your relative position as an achiever is still top notch and well respected, or B ) people sink in more time achieving than others and move to the front of the pack, which is where they deserve to be since they’re the ones grinding it out and investing the time. They’re better completionists than you.

I had no opinion on this until I read your, very very silly opinion. I am now strongly in favor of these new, hard to complete sPvP dailies. Good work Anet. For serious.

on which class to focus, warrior or guardian?

in Guardian

Posted by: Ludus Rex.1562

Ludus Rex.1562

The Warrior feels much more complete. They have a ton of tools to do their job, can function offensively, defensively, and as support, all very well. They have more viable options, more weapon sets, utilities that are generally stronger, and the base HP pool that’s about 75% greater than ours must be really, really nice. They’re also much easier to play (not that Guardian is super hard mode, but Warrior takes simple play to the next level).

All that being said, Guardian is still very solid, just in fewer ways, and have a much higher emphasis on team play. This means that solo, you’ll never really feel as strong as a Warrior unless you’re trying to bunker, in which case a Warrior can bunker as well as you, but not with as much versatility in terms of build options.

The Guardian shines defensively, and in terms of group support. The Warrior also has great defenses and group support as well, but again, not /quite/ as great, and fewer options for this area specifically.

Overall, I think it’s fair to say that the Warrior has more, but the Guardian is still very good at the specific things it’s very good at. Just ask yourself what you want to do.

If you want to run with a group and throw out powerful group support or defend like a champion, Guardian might be for you.

If you ever want to be able to reliably catch someone and force a fight to a finish in 1v1 type scenarios, or WvW roaming, you’re probably better going Warrior. Guardians right now have to be content with winning a fight by letting their foes run away. Can you be content with that?

I’ve never really had problems with mobility with the sole exception when I am solo roaming.

In a group you can spam swiftness enough to have 2 mins or more on the swiftness buff. Blast those static fields man!

So I would certainly LIKE a speed boost skill, I can live without one.

You can’t SPAM swiftness, unless you’re holding a Staff. Seems like a fairly imbalanced requirement, since every other class (EVERY) has access to one of these 25% movement dealies.

Just because we can jump through hoops to achieve something that’s a fairly baseline necessity for playing our class, doesn’t mean we should be satisfied with our vastly, vastly inferior methods of doing so.

You should still be upset. You should still be demanding this basic quality of life package that only Guardians are denied.

Good stuff. I like this part from the dev post about Guardians the best: “They can remove conditions more easily than the Warrior, but share the Warrior’s need to be in melee range to dole out maximum damage.”

So here the devs have pointed out that we share the Warrior’s need to be in melee range, when in fact, the Warrior Longbow feels much more viable as a ranged option than our ranged options. Additionally, we have a fraction of the Warrior’s tools for staying in melee range. Very limited swiftness, very limited immobilize, no 25% moev speed signet or trait, etc. etc. etc.

So, we share their need to be in melee, we just aren’t given the tools for it. Gravy.

That’s okay right, ‘cause we’re so cleansy? Oops: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cleansing_Ire

With a single trait, the Warrior Burst ability becomes a triple cleanse. They can potentially cleanse 3 conditions every 10 seconds, and that’s being generous and not factoring in burst CD reduction.

That’s okay, right? I mean we have this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Absolute_Resolution
and this
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Purity

I mean, 1 condition every 10 seconds from purity is just as good, right? Or hey, 3 conditions every 60 seconds by spending the virtue that it’s most beneficial to keep active. Just as good, right?

The fact is, even though we “remove conditions more easily than the warrior”, we need to have Purity, Signet of Resolve, and Perfect Inscriptions (that’s an adept trait, a Grandmaster Trait, and a Healing Skill slot) to get the equivalent of what warriors get with a single trait, just by firing their main attack, which they’d be doing anyway. It’s even worse than that, because Cleansing Ire actually FUELS their main burst attack.

It’s a good thing that we can “Remove Conditions more easily than a Warrior”. Sure we have more tools for it, but none of them are half as good as Cleansing Ire. You can count the ways which we can remove conditions (there are many), but having to invest much much more to do it is not balance by any stretch of the imagination.

Don’t worry though, they only have a base HP that’s 70% greater than ours. Nothing to see here folks, move along.

It is something that has been talked about in massive length on these forums for over a year. Its just getting worse and worse when warriors are naturally more mobile, along with snares, and honestly are getting better at condition cleansing than us. Which is funny, because originally condition cleansing was supposed to be the weak point of warriors…

I know it’s been talked about. I know we never stop talking about it. We SHOULD never stop talking about it. This problem needs to be addressed.

I say we choke them with this thread. Never let it leave the top 10 posts. Maybe they’ll give us a friendly “we’re looking into this down the road” once we reach 75+ pages. Any acknowledgement would give me hope.

Ludus Rex.1562

Everyone else in the game who is expected to melee has a 25% run speed tool either as a Signet or as a Trait, and has some kind of access to snares.

We’ve got very, very limited access to immobilize, and if we invest heavily in Swiftness Duration and Shout Traits we can get decent uptime out of Retreat, and all it costs is a Utility Slot and some major rune and trait sacrifices. Does anyone really think this is a fair situation?

I understand that we have other strengths, and that we’re currently able to bunker very well in sPvP. Not every Guardian wants to be a bunker. The entire class shouldn’t be about bunkering. Can we please, PLEASE have some sticky tools? I don’t need them all, just SOMETHING.

Here are a couple of super reasonable things on my wish list:

Signet of Wrath should be changed to instead grant 25% movement speed. A ton of classes already have it, and we don’t really have a viable condition build right now anyway. The percentage of Guardians who would miss the 180 condition version is slim. Very very very slim.

Also, here’s Dogged March, a Warrior Trait. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dogged_March

I understand that you don’t want to make us clones, and I guess I’ll understand (grudgingly) if you don’t want to give us soft CC. But it’s established that you’re okay with us having heavy cleansing power, right? Okay, so if you won’t give us snares, how about giving us our own version of Dogged March?

Instead of 33% reduction in snares and then some regen, take away the regen and just make it a flat 50% reduction in snares. Put it on the adept level ANYWHERE. Problem solved. You’ve maintained the cleansy aesthetic of Guardians, given them another desperately needed tool to stay in melee range, and didn’t have to rework any of our attacks to try and figure out where to stick soft CC.

I will send you any amount of cookies for some of this love. ANY AMOUNT. Just please…please let me stay in melee range so I can use my melee weapons…

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Diamond-Skin-Proposal

This trait was super ill-conceived. Some players have no answers to this and it snaps them in half, and the rest of the time the poor elementalist invested heavily in a build that can utilize this trait and the trait will still be useless. You’ve got frustrated elementalists when it isn’t working, and frustrated condi builds when it is working. It’s too all or nothing.

25% flat condition duration reduction would have been a more elegant solution, but instead you all wanted the interesting, unique, wildly unbalanced solution. Well played.

I like all the Aegis traits, but they’re just so unbelievably stingy with actually giving us Aegis to use.

Valorous Defense should have a 45 second CD.

Shield #4 should change from a cone to have a shout’s radius, and should give AoE Aegis as well (Why wouldn’t our shield cast Aegis, the shield spell? For heaven’s sake, let it block).

Retreat might be more viable as a primary mode of transportation if the CD went from 60s to 40s, and the extra AoE Aegis procs might actually feel frequent enough to be worthwhile, which is not where this skill is at for me currently.

I’m disappointed that just about every build I make has to have Runes of Speed. I really don’t know how to deal with good evasive ranged characters or condition/pet spammers. The only defense I’m really aware of is the burn on block + super retaliation build, in which you get Runes of the Guardian and the trait that gives burning on block, then you take Shelter and off hand focus, and you try to make them burn themselves on you while taking a ton of retaliation damage.

Normally people won’t kill themselves attacking you through retaliation, but retaliation + burning can make them commit to their own fatality before they realize it, and after they stop attacking they’ll just smolder to death. Unfortunately, if someone isn’t attacking you, you’re not dealing a ton of damage.

Played with every possible weapon set in pvp, and came to the conclusion that only GS and Staff are well-balanced – dps, cc, cond. cleansing, symbols, support, and mobility. And the new GS trait is beautiful with any build that has moderate to high healing.

With 1200 healing power the update to the GS trait now adds 24hp per swing, for a whopping total of 49HPS each time you connect with your weapon. If you divide this by the Greatswords attack time, we can increase it to 59HPS. The healing portion of this is still super lackluster, it’s just now less lackluster.

No reason to make Shield #4 a clone of a warrior block. We can already do this with Shelter. My big beef is that Aegis has so many linked traits to make them really, really good, but we have no way to gain additional uses of Aegis!

Here’s a freakin’ ingenious plan, make the Shield, the incarnation of the Aegis symbol, GIVE Aegis. Crazy, right? Instead of protection in a cone, make it protection and Aegis in the same radius that a shout has. Now, using a shield gives you access to an actual block, and it gains a ton of versatility based on what your Aegis does.

After Shield #4 gives Aegis, then reduce CD on both Shield abilities by 5s. They’re crazy long now.

Agree on most points. #2 needs to be a symbol, badly. Very very badly. #3 has too short a duration for way too long a cooldown.

As for #1, I actually think that it’s fine. We’re not really meant to use it from 1200, more like from 450. If you can stay in the sweet spot it does solid damage at a decent attack speed. Here’s how you fix half of the issues plaguing Guardians:
Change Signet of Wrath to give 25% movement speed bonus, because honestly, do we really need a condition damage signet?

Here’s how you fix Guardian Sword specifically:
Make it so Sword 3 no longer roots you. Reduce the CD to 10s.

Both of these? I won’t give a hoot about soft CC anymore.

Keep in mind that most of my complaints are from an sPvP perspective.

The damage on Sword 2 isn’t really a problem for me. The lack of soft CC and the fact that it’s not a leap finisher are pretty heartbreaking. Just compare this to the warrior sword charge. Leap finisher, 3 seconds of cripple, 8 second cooldown, can be used to charge without a target. I’d trade our Sword charge for theirs in a heartbeat. Would be the best day of my life.

Also, you’re under estimating how bad Sword 3 is. It’s not that it blocks while it should reflect, it’s that it absorbs when it should block. That’s right, IT DOESN’T EVEN BLOCK. So it does not triggers the “on block” traits. You also forgot to mention the biggest problem, which is that it roots you. So if you’re fighting a foe who you need to use a ranged attack against, you have to stand still while they get further away from you. The tracking wouldn’t be as big an issue if you could try to stay on top of them while it fired.

It’s so outrageous that every other class has a 25% movemeent speed access via Signet or Trait AND that if they’re expected to melee, they have some way to slow their foe, while we have NEITHER. Honestly, every other melee class gets both of these, and we’re not even allowed ONE of them. I’d settle for either or, at this point. Devs have said that they want sigils and runes to build diversity, but every build I make has to come with Runes of Speed factored in, because I dare not take anything else.

So, diamond skin.

Dear Anet,

Thanks for Runes of Speed in sPvP. Seriously. I’m grateful for not having to rely solely on Retreat to try and catch people. It’s nice to have options.

Options in mind, is there any chance we can Signet of Wrath changed to a 25% movement speed signet? I mean…a condition damage signet on a class that only has one damage condition seems…kinda spiteful.

Limiting our access to movement speed enhancers AND giving us very little uptime for snares and immobilizes is pretty harsh for a class with such a huge emphasis on melee weaponry.

I know you don’t want us to be as sticky as warriors or thieves because we have more access to healing and retaliation, so we shouldn’t necessarily NEED as much uptime…but since the 25% movement speed enhancer is already on the table via Runes of Speed, any chance we can get this 25% movement speed feature integrated someplace in our baseline trait/utility toolkit, like the other 7 classes in the game? I’m feeling a little bit left out here, fellas.

Thanks for all you do, but don’t be afraid to send a little more love this way.

I agree that the temptation in PvP will be to run this with 4 meditations, but smart money is probably still on 3 meditations. One of the utility slots of the longer cycling meditations should probably be Stand Your Ground, so that when the pressure is really on, you can make sure you deliver the pain with Litany.

I’m thinking 10/30/30. The 10 is for the extra power, and 10% damage on when enemy is burning. Now, imagine you’re going to burst you foe into oblivion a few seconds into the fight, you’re going to want to hit Litany for Fury and Sustain, Stand Your Ground so that you can’t be stopped, and Judge’s Intervention to get in and ignite your foe for the damage bump. I think that making sure you don’t get feared off or stunned at a critical moment is going to be more valuable than the 4th meditation.

The idea that you might want to use this at the start of the fight (when you hit around 80% health) then when your health is around 40% is actually a good thing. It means you can tap your Fury early with a meditation build, and it means that it may cycle around again before the fight ends. I like the fact that the base heal might be low but it will instead give you some frontloaded sustain.

What bothers me a bit is that it almost has to be tied to a mediation build.

Well it’s already tied to the damage you deal. Is there another viable DPS build that isn’t meditations? I’ve been contemplating using a meditation build myself, and this would push it over the top for me, so I’m less bothered by the dependence. I’m really bothered at the 30s CD. I just want one short CD heal to trigger certain rune sets. Ah well.

Ugh, I really hate our Radiance line. I’d give my left arm to have critical damage linked to precision and condition damage moved to link up with toughness.

Check out the spreadsheet. Shelter is one of the weakest heals in terms of health per second, and the only trade off is 2 seconds of block. Have I used Shelter because I like it compared to our other options? Sure. Is it numerically inferior to the heals of other classes? Heck yes.

We don’t deserve to get shafted on heals just because of Virtue of Resolve. We pay for that with our low health pool. I really hope we get something viable with the new heal.

And for heaven’s sake, please make it something without a 30s+ cooldown. I’d kill for a 15s or 20s healing skill that we could link up to some “on heal” rune sets.

It’s super lame how weak our heals are, currently. The fact that virtue of resolve supplements our health per second is not a fair argument, since we already pay for that regen with our inferior baseline health.

Honestly, I’ll take anything that’s not super sub-standard, which is all we have now.

Is anybody using this trait? You get to deal some DPS when you summon a banner, which you won’t do very often since they have long cooldowns and long durations?

Every time I try to go up into Strength I shudder at how bad those first 6 traits are. Can one of them be replaced with something useful? I’m not sure anyone will miss Powerful Banners.

How would you improve sPvP?

As far as Elites go, Renewed Focus is fine and well, and I use it, and it’s helpful…but only so long as you never ever try to compare it to the elites of other professions.

Honestly, I’d trade my right kidney for Signet of Rage. Can you believe Warriors get 30(s) Swiftness, Fury and Might stacks on a 60 second timer? With the signet recharge trait and boon duration they can go inf. pretty easy.

Sure, 2 seconds of invuln then recharging virtues is nice, but it absolutely doesn’t compare.

I could never really get behind the tomes.

Signet build?

This rune set is exciting at first glance, but won’t be of any use for sPvP or WvW.

In order to take advantage of this, you’ll need your utilities to be signets, your traits to give benefits for having Aegis, and this rune set.

So, where exactly are you getting your mobility from now? Not from Runes of Speed or Traveler, and not from Shouts and Boon Duration. So…?

I love the fact that they’re looking into additional ways to give us access to Aegis. I’ve always thought that we had too many mechanics that triggered off these, and too few ways to gain extra ones. I don’t think that going about it in this way is going to be helpful for anybody. If it was Aegis on Shout, or if it was an AoE Aegis or something, I’d be way more excited.

Maybe I’m way off base, but I can’t think of an instance where I’d ever use this, and I’ve really been wanting more Aegis effects.

I am a manly man’s man. I own a pink shirt. Sometimes I wear it. Why? Because it takes a real man to wear pink.

Ein, I can understand that as a more casual player you’re having trouble understanding the fundamental issue here.

The issue is, that currently, P/P has nothing going for it besides Unload. We agree there. But the REASON is because Unload is the only thing that it does best. And that’s ranged physical damage. That makes the ROLE of P/P, Physical Ranged DPS. The PROBLEM is that it’s a one button playstyle. People who want P/P Physical DPS want this to be improved so that they can have utility, just like everybody else.

If you buff Vital Shot, it doesn’t open up an additional ROLES to P/P. By that I mean, it still won’t do anything (except Unload) better than something else can do it. That is the current issue. People want to feel like their choice is valid. If non-Unload builds are still outshined by P/D, this will reduce the viability of the choice for DPS Players.

Your proposed “fix”, does not give a defined role to P/P. DPSers still have one button. None DPSers can get a minor bump to something that they never made an effort to build towards.

YOUR problem with P/P is that you want to do more DPS without having to gear or trait for it. The Community’s problem with P/P is that it has no role, other than Unload, and there’s something very unfulfilling about a 1 button playstyle.

Again, just tell me the ROLE that is fixed, which P/P gains by this proposed change.

Let’s assume someone has a pure condition build. They will want to go with P/D most of the time because it would generally be more optimal, but P/P will be playable in casual content…

Let’s assume someone has a Celestial build…

Your absurd stance is becoming more and more apparent with each post. Casual players can ALREADY go P/P and use Blind. Why? They’re CASUAL. They’re not putting their emphasis on DPS. This does not change that.

DPS Players still need to be P/D or Unload. P/P is still not the best at anything, EXCEPT for Unload. That’s the CURRENT status of P/P. That’s why people ONLY use P/P for Unload. That’s the only thing it’s current good at.

Nobody is interested in your “fix” for casual players who use celestial gear and want to use blinding powder. DPS players (probably the most common single role) still won’t have P/P as a DPS choice.

You’re just saying “Buff Vital Shot so I’ll feel less stupid playing mixed P/P”. After that buff, DPS Thieves still can’t use it.
