It’s an exploit, it’s meant to be an aid, not a way of getting rewarded while afk’ing.

This is what botting is. being away from the computer and getting rewarded for it.
_
btw these people did it for 3+ runs that was about 35min of afk and getting the gold reward, helping not at all.

Autoattacking does not put you on follow, thus mobs out of range triggers a “halt” in autoattacking.
Furthermore they did not autoattack consecutively for 3+ runs while being afk for 35 minutes because that is just flat impossible. Their character will not begin autoattacking the boss unless they initiate the attack themselves.

Not that I’m defending autoattacking, but calling it an exploit is absolute and utter bovine excrement.

My perspective on ‘Hardcore’ also appears to be extremely skewed from every one else – I came here from Eve Online, where baiting and evil behavior are not just legal, but encouraged by their Devs. IMNSHO, absolutely nothing will beat Eve at being hardcore (well, maybe Second Life, but that’s a different discussion).

There are other reasons as to why EVE just so happens to be a tad bit more hardcore than anything else, their players actually make demands when something isn’t right. Even the “white knights” in EVE doesn’t just sit back and watch as CCP attempts to introduce things that are not what the players feel are within the spirit of the game; The prime example being Monoclegate.

I like to split up the quoutes abit to more easily respond to them, I sincerely hope you don’t mind.

The complexity of the matchmaking will extend the queue by a lot depending on how they decide to confirm a team.

If the team is confirmed by common map choice, then the matchmaking becomes increasingly longer to match with each added filter.

1. Player 1 chooses skyhammer to veto. Queues up.
2. Player 2 chooses skyhammer to veto. Queues up.
3. Let’s assume they are the only ones in the queue, then they’ll get matched up. Okay 8 more.
4. Player 3 chooses spirit watch to veto. He’ll get matched with Player 1 & Player 2 but since they don’t have the same veto—it’s an additional restriction to match people.
5. Now this pool of player 1, 2 and 3 can’t play anyone who has anything but khylo, legacy, ToSS, and nihfiel. And this is only 3 people. By the time it reaches 10, there actually may only be one map you can play.

Correct, there may very well end up being only 1 map in the queue, but in turn if you have 8 players and only Legacy and Forest remains, then the remaining 2 players are highly unlikely to have vetoed one of these maps and far more likely to have vetoed one of the other 4.

However I feel that you ignored or just overlooked the parts I mentioned that would strive to counteract this: By providing sufficient incentive in the forms of additional rank points, double progress towards tracks and other rewards for playing less commonly played maps, more players are likely to not veto said map because the rewards are simply lucrative enough that they would rather endure playing it.

The only way to avoid this would be to not do a pre-filter and/or match people if they have the same preferences first, then match people with common intersections after a certain time limit.

1 veto works great for 1v1. But 5v5 will require more programming and factors to reduce queue times.

One other solution would be to have a combined pool of vetoes: Rather than matching each player and sorting out those who aren’t matches in terms of vetoes a possibility would be to combine all 10 vetoes into 1 pool, then if a map retrieves more than X of the votes(Lets say 40% or 4/10 maps) it is removed from the pool for that particular match but ALL maps that fail to reach that treshhold remains in the queue.

Edit – OR
You can create 6 groups for each filter. If 1 filter represents a map. Then break it into 6 fixed pools people are put into.

Players that vetoed Skyhammer
Players that vetoed ToSS
….
6 maps veto pools

Then players in those pools would get matched up with each other. Only con is no one from the other pools would ever get matched with each other.

I don’t think this would be a fabulous idea, it’d split up the community far too much.
In the version I first presented anyone can still end up in the same queue, it all depends on WHEN they get teamed up whereas in the version you’re presenting here you’re just efficiently dividing the entire community into 6 slices.. which is likely to increase the queue times by a vast amount, it also further splits up an already small pvp community and I don’t think anyone of us wants to see that happening.

Personally I think I like the veto-pool the most to be honest.

Having the chance to veto 1 map before placing yourself in the queue would be sufficient.

If you limit it to being able to veto a single map, there is still a rotation of 5 maps in the pool. A bit of theory:
Player 1 vetoes skyhammer
Player 2 vetoes Kyhlo

These players would still be able to end up being paired as they’ve got 4 maps still in the pool to choose from.

Player 3 vetoes skyhammer
Player 4 vetoes Spirit watch
Player 5 vetoes kyhlo

Then the team is formed, the map pool is restricted to 1 out of 3 maps: foefire, forest, temple.

The game then locates 5 opponents whos pool contains any of these 3 maps.
/theory

I’d consider that a viable choice in soloQ, but for teamQ I’d say each party would be restricted to vetoing one map, thus limiting the possibility that players attempt to efficiently narrow down the pool to 1.
Should this have too much of an impact on queue times then perhaps reducing the amount of maps present at any time would be an idea:
Set a rotating map pool, let there be (light?) 2 or 3 maps in rotation and let the rotation change every 3-7 days.

Or if one map would turn out to be far less played than others, implement a system that grants additional “rewards” to players for playing a certain map and have that map have an increased chance to be selected from the map pool for X days.

I think it could work, but in reality I’m just interested in being able to veto skyhammer.

Don't Punish Returning Players

in Living World

Lue.6538

Then why isn’t there real permanent death? How far do you want to take this “real life” thing?

There are afew MMOs with permanent death, the difference is that they cater to an entirely different kind of player than GW2 does.
Whereas games like Salem, Haven & Hearth or Wizardry can get away with it, GW2 would simply drop dead the second something like that was included, Infact, as a player, death isn’t even present in GW2. You fall down and if you fail to get up, you become defeated but you never die.

However, noone is asking for permadeath, noone even suggested it.

GW2 is taking a new approach to how things are progressing and as with all methods, there are pros and cons to it..
But the primary problem I have with GW2s approach is that it does nothing to promote the game to new players, it does not motivate old players to return. It merely attempts to shower the current playerbase with content that, while the setting changes, still remains on the large scale pretty much identical.
You collect token A to recieve item B. Include Chest C with a randomly generated reward that is in the vast majority of cases not something any player would ever want and you wound up with the various coffers or champion bags that seems to be held in such high regard.

Personally I just got fed up by it, I greatly enjoyed southsun survival and quite afew of the bossfights presented in the first season of the Living Story.. But I departed for a month and when I returned, I had no interest at all in following the story, merely because I had missed a step. Had I been able to go back and do it on my own, I’d gladly have continued. Altho I don’t quite feel as the game has any real reward to it.. If I want a bonnetti’s rapier for instance, I’d be far better of acquiring gold to purchase one over attempting to find one of my own in one of the gambling bags. Had I instead had a means of simply gathering 15.000.000 peaceblooms and complete 490.000 dynamic events to trade for one, then atleast that’d be a goal to work towards with a reward of actual worth.

But we’ll see what Living Story 2 brings, I know my expectations are fairly low atleast.

Why the Hate for Glass Staff Eles (spvp)?

Yea I experienced that too on my first game as a staff zerker elementalist. *Found a way to one-shot warriors but that aside I thought it was very hurtful when a mesmer that beat me cleanly twice before got hit by two meteors, died and called me noob and eles are op etc etc.
I mean mesmers are on of spvp’s greatest fears. Elementalists die pretty much the moment they notice where you are but mesmers can out dps, cloak and run away from anything. The hard counter to them is just AoE’s which we just happen to have… I’m guessing they have no experience with how hard it can be to hit with AoE’s

Well done! A slightly secretive ’mesmers are op and I r gud cus I r beat them!" post.

Mesmers cant outdps everything, mesmers cant stealth away from everything and one of their MAIN drawbacks are their lack of mobility, thus they can’t ‘run away’ from everything.

Mesmers are atm a jack of all trades, they can do pretty much anything.. moderately well. They’ll never outdps a thief, nor outstealth one and they’ll never successfully run away from a elementalist.

As for him calling you a noob? I’m not going to dispute his claim.
However the reason for him doing so? Utterly silly.

The crit damage just needs to be lowered again that’s all if you guys a really think it’s so bad.

Ele requires you to mash a bucketload of buttons and throw together fancy combos that grant you additional effects, but once you get your head wrapped around it all it becomes a ton of fun.

PVP Class: New Player

One of the least forgiving classes to play is thief. If you screw up, you die.
You do get a lot of tools to not screw up, but once you do, it’s over before you can blink an eye.
After thief comes ele. Incredibly strong bursts, can be very mobile and surprisingly durable. But once again, one mistake is all it takes.
After this, you get necromancer. It is by no means squishy, but it cannot run. So if the necro gets bogged down, it is a fight to the death, and any mistake will cost you once you reach this point.
In the middle of the tree is ranger/engineer. Their a bit weird to play. One has a semi-efficient pet that shares its damage with the masters damage, the other is like a elementalist but all the attunements has been exchanged with crazy mechanical devices of sorts. Engineer and Ranger is probably the most engaging classes to play. Both takes skill, both are strong in their own right, and both can hold their ground.
Between the two, Ranger is more of the duelist, while engineer favors the “unfair odds”.
Then comes the mesmer. Its like a guessing game. If the enemy guesses right, you die, if not, you win.
The two most forgiving classes is warrior and guardian. They are easy to learn, easy to play, and sadly, a bit dull thanks to this. More often then not, when playing these two, its just “press button X to win”. It is fun in the beginning, but “it gets old” real fast. Ironically, because they are so forgiving, they also have a low “skill ceiling”. so once you reach the apex, these two classes will not be performing too far apart from that of the average player.

Other than your 2 most ‘forgiving’ classes, I’m in significant disagreement with your claims about where other classes are positioned.

Except that’s not exactly how wow dungeon finder works. I don’t know where you got your :“Match starts in 1min, go! or wait”." from. With the response you gave me, I guess you never tried wow pve. You might consider doing some research.

That is how both the raidfinder, dungeonfinder and bg queue works; You sign up for the queue and once a full team has been assembled you receive a window that displays your role and a request to confirm or decline it; The difference, like I said, is only that in GW2 you do not have the option to decline it, you only have the option to WAIT.

With the response you gave me, I guess you never actually read my full post. You might consider doing so.

Why not implement the same system as Wow is using for their pve queue? Before entering the instance, players have to click “ready”. If after 15sec he didn’t press it, he’s automatically kicked, and the queue system start searching for another player. I think it could work really well in soloQ and I encourage anet to implement it.

Click on Arenas at the top of your screen, hit “Enter Queue”, once you find a map you get a minor window at the center of your screen that tells you that “Match starts in 1min, go! or wait”.

Which is what you’re suggesting.. altho the ‘wait’ button should be replaced with a ‘No! I’m currently Afk and thus will not join this map’ button.

Its not my fault and its not anets fault that clueless people go for soloque when they should be practicing in hotjoins its their own fault that they are egoistic kittens who care more about some chest than about fun of other players.

Read the bolded part, then recap what you’ve been saying: You would rather be AFK and thus ruin the game for everyone rather than participate because your team is playing poorly, so do you care about the fun of other players? It truly, truly does not seem that way.

I tried 4 things:
Just playing.
Flaming.
Explaining.
AFKing.
Playing just ends up with me raging which is bad for my health, flaming is bad for me and they probobly dont feel good either, explaining just does nothing at all, they dont understand what im saying or something, afking works, just afk and hope that next game you will be with people who actually want to win.

To be fair, aside from a pair of fairly harsh insults from a couple of russian players I’ve had fairly decent luck at explaining things to players.. granted it has had vastly different results each time but overall I think it has gone fairly well; Now has my w:l ratio gone down thanks to these players? Absolutely, I’m down from 71% to below 50% now and it is quite frankly very frustrating.. It is out of my hands tho and all I can really do to remedy the situation is try to make sure that the next time I end up with these players, that they will know something they didn’t know the fight before.

That said there are ofcourse a bucketload of players who are so apparently only there for the various reward tracks and thus refuse to participate simply because they’d rather afk their way to another free item and those should be hung from a tree, shot and run over by a Hambow.

Lue.6538

Well I’m only speaking from my own empirical evidence which is bound to be flawed.

I would in all honesty not call your anecdotal fallacy empirical evidence, you did not perform a test nor provide sufficient evidence to display that the community is like you claim it is.

But I can say that in the past few days I’ve played over 100 tourney games and the results have been overwhelmingly not helpful. You have to treat each player differently. You can’t have a bad experience with one new player and assume they all are going to be like that.

Which is just refering to your anecdotal fallacy to back it up, we all know there are rude players in PvP, it is however not a phenomena that is unique to the PvP community(Look at how people behave when someone wants to play something else than zerker in PvE for example).
However as a rebutle to your anecdotals: My own experience since the patch has been nothing short of dreadful and it has been agonizingly clear who is a new player and who isn’t. For the greater part of the soloqueues I’ve ran since the 15th I’ve been paired up with people who most likely never played PvP of any sort, anywher,e since the dawn of time. Among the ones I’ve played with the vast majority has been both fairly bad, but also severly uninterested in any kind of hints, tips, advice or suggestions whatsoever. The unwillingness to learn how even the most simple concepts in PvP function is just absurd but we can’t force them to listen and eventually it just gets far too tedious to attempt to help them.

The other thing that you can’t assume is that they are in fact new (sure if they are doubling up on a cap then you can be pretty sure). I’ve seen people criticize someone for going far when the team is losing a team fight on mid and a thief goes to decap. I’ve seen people criticize someone for defending home. So there are a lot of people offering “advice” that may not be the greatest advice to who they think are “new” people simply because they don’t play the same strategy as you.

But if they’re standing in 8 necromancer marks while being attacked by a thief and refusing to move, even tho they’re not immobilized or stunned you can be absolutely certain that they are fairly new, when this player then politely requests that you puppy off and burn in righteous fire merely because you attempted to help you kinda lose hope in the new ones.

I’m not trying to demonize all of sPvP veterans

Yet you refer to the entire sPvP community in your first post:
_This community really needs to shape up. _
_The reason that sPvP is so small of a population is because of the toxicity of its members. _

There are rotten eggs in all baskets, not just the spvp one. I’d like to think that they’re still a minority tho.

I’m sure we can arrange for new players to be eased into it tho.

The problem isn’t entirely the toxicity of some members, because this exists in every single competitive game scenario.

I’ve seen this come up over and over again as some kind of justification. Just because this happens in other games, can’t we try to be better than them?

The actual core problem lies in the fact that people are anonymous online and therefor think they can act in any way they please towards eachother, doesn’t have anything at all to do with justification.

Well… If I have to…

- If you are defending a point, you can always stand on those platforms and you are literally immune to being pulled down.

- If you are taking a point, you can turn your camera to look around the corner slightly and you can often see players before they stealth.

- If you are a Necro, you can put ‘Marks’ behind the glass. After you see it broken, you dodge and hide until their stealth breaks.

- If you can’t see the ‘pullers’ on the map, then you should be ready to either stability or break stun and spam jump. It can be difficult but it is easily doable for good players. If they are standing on the glass for too long before the pull, then you can predict the pull and dodge.

- If you have pets, minions or spirits then you should be hiding behind them at all times on side points.

I know this requires you to put more effort into the game which I know GW2 players dislike.

Anyway – I still want Skyhammer removed.

- Collero

Now personally I don’t really die to the scrubs who try to pull me around on the points, simply because I’ve got a particular skill that counters it. However your statement that:

- If you can’t see the ‘pullers’ on the map, then you should be ready to either stability or break stun and spam jump. It can be difficult but it is easily doable for good players. If they are standing on the glass for too long before the pull, then you can predict the pull and dodge.

Is utterly ridiculous. Preemptively defending against an unseen threat on a point where you may or may not already be engaged in battle with something else isn’t really reasonable.

Limit for you hotjoin heroes is 25% per day.

Reward tracks question

thanks justin!

could you let us in on more details regarding the rewards track?
some solid numbers would help a lot!

for example, the reward track bar is divided into 8 smaller bars
say, each bar is worth 100 reward points

for example,
team arena win = 40 points
solo arena win = 30 points
team arena lose = 20 points
custom arena win = 20 points
solo arena lose = 15 points
custom arena lose = 10 points

please, justin?
thanks!

each “Tier” of the track is split up into smaller sections..
The first tier contains 4 minor rewards followed by the final reward for that tier, so lets for the sake of it:
Each minor reward is at 20,40,60,80 points and the final reward is at 100 points.
A solo arena lose grants you half the progress you need towards the next reward, thus a solo arena loss = 10 points.
A solo arena win grants you double that of a loss, thus immediatly pushing you up to the next reward.. thus: 20 points.

As I refuse to play quickjoin, I cant say for sure what the steps are for it but I wouldn’t be surprised if those were 5/10 and then the team arena is perhaps 20/40.

And yet again you act like you’re not caring about it, but meanwhile you are. That’s why you’re taking this so serious and I am making big fun of this whole discussion

Ah yes, the standard “olololol i trool joo” retreat.
No good sir, I think you’ll find that I do not care about this particular topic at all.

If the majority of players doesn’t say the same as me, what’s exactly my problem then? Most want ladder ingame, not a web browser, anyway. But not everyone is taking the effort to hop on forum and complain. Also, you can say whatever you want, I am taking the forum as serious as i do with the current leaderboards

And yet again you pretend to speak for the masses.

Oh, you clearly don’t read forums nor hotm then

I think you can see how utterly stupid that asumption is yourself so I won’t even bother explaining it.

I dont assume, I read things.

Your presumption that the majority of players do however post on forums is ludicrous and the forums simply do not represent the majority of the players.

You’re still appealing to the masses, it is still a logical fallacy and it does not further your cause in any way.
Altho neither does dumb remarks such as: Oh, you clearly don’t read forums nor hotm then

It is a problem for me. Each of my characters have particular looks in spvp right now. I’m only rank 46. 46 charges is not going to cover the armor/weapon skins for my 12+characters just to get back to looks I already had for them.

I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. I understand that its a problem for those of you with umpteen characters you use in PvP but personally I’m unable to find anything conclusive about the issue.. other than the transmutation/rank thingymajing.

As far as I know, if you purchased gem store kins twice, you can ask support for a refund for one of them…
Just FYI.

I think I read this aswell.

That’s good but still… Even though you can get back the skin you used in PvP since it will be in your wardrobe those who played only PvP will have to use transmugation charges to get their looks back.
Again I am not affected by this and I also gonna add that I dunno actually what is going to happen with the PvP cosmetics you use when the patch goes live but I have seen the complaints so I had an idea for it.

You get 1 Trans. Stone per pvp rank so that part isn’t all that much of a problem.

A little late maby but…
I have read some posts about PvP players don’t like that they will have to Transmute their gear on patch day.

What if we could have the option to keep PvE cosmetic or keep PvP cosmetic for that character you log in with.

Why I am not suggesting that we would get 6 transmugation charges for free for every char is that not everyone will use them and save them and that is not the point for it.

I’m all for the choice, but for my own part it wouldn’t matter as my mesmer has both a PvP Phoenix skin and a PvE phoenix skin.. thus I’ll be losing one either way.

Uhm, no.. I know exactly what I am talking about. So many agree with me. Anet focus on the ingame ladder, not on something old. The faster we get ingame ladders, the faster GW2 gets a chance to get more competitive.

I’m not saying I disagree with you, but I’m going to point out that you really shouldn’t appeal to the masses to back up your claims. Yes, there are people who agree that the leaderboards are broken but when you word it like such “So many agree with me.” You seem to imply that a vast majority of the players agrees, which you simply don’t know is true or not.

GW2 and DLCs in the Gemstore?

Would you pay gems for an account wide unlock of a new zone?

Would you pay gems for an account wide unlock of a set of new dungeons?

No. If anything I’d quit using the gemstore alltogether, I would rather deprive myself of things I want in the gemshop than invest money on ‘content’ that should be free.

One of the aspects of this map is the breaks in line of sight, for example the numerous columns and the overhead paths in the central area around the sky hammer portal. The central area allows for the combat engine to really be appreciated. The breaks in line of sight make dodges more meaning full, because a player can effectively dodge into “cover”. Do y’all feel that this is problematic?

It isn’t a problem if you don’t make it one.
Regardless of wether or not there are areas to hide in, you’re going to knockback on the 3 nodes and on the cannon, the rest of the map is insignificant.

  • why they should wait 3-5 min for a match?

My soloQ has rarely reached 3 minutes of waiting, never 5.. In reality the waiting period is probably closer to 1-1½min.

I do think it is utterly silly that you can farm rewards and ranks in quickjoin and would happily see them remove the progressive tracks and rank gains from it, it IS a casual gamemode and should be treated as such.

Hotjoin should have a max lvl cap,be it 20 or 30.
No one should be allowed to advance to higher ranks via hotjoin.
Same should be for yolo Q.Up to 50 or 60 rank.
To reach rank 80 you should only be able to do that by joining the
team tournaments.

So there should be limitations in place because you dislike both soloQ and quickjoin? No.

Play anything you want up to 80 and accept the fact that your rank means squat when it comes to skill.

Do y’all think the map is bad, or do you just think its not a good map to have in solo que?

In general it is just a badly designed PvP map.

But I don’t mind the scrubs playing it in hotjoin but for the tournaments…
it just has no place in a competitive enviroment.

Yeah and can you please show me the data in your kitten now? Pretty confident you’re merely pulling guesswork that strives to glorify your own ‘bullkitten’. As I said “mostly” all 39 or less ranks have no idea how to play conquest.

I didn’t make any claim that requires statistical backup, bad players exists on all ranks in PvP just as they exist on all levels in PvE.
My second statement was regarding Rank being a measurement of time invested and not performance.

Now is rank performance based? Sure, just hop over to hotjoin and look at the servers, you’ll find that theres rankfarm servers with rules about what team does what to get their points. Hardly a competitive, skillbased enviroment.

That alone tells us that rank is gained by investing time rather than by performing well.

As for what you said?

When do I lose against people 39 or below besides when mine has 20 or below. Usually I get teams with all 50+ but one low level usually makes the match one sided.

Remember? “I do not lose against players below 39 unless my team has a rank 20 or below.”
Back that up why dont you?

Most people at 39 or less are terrible and with the new rank point gains that number should probably be even higher.

And then when you lose against people below 39 they’re ofcourse playing a broken class/build and you’re clearly better than them!

No, rank means nothing ever since they decided to let people farm ranks in hotjoin.

The simple truth is that there are bad players on all ranks and rank is by far more of a measurement of time invested rather than one that portrays your actual skill in the game.

As for who you lose against? I’m pretty confident you dont actually keep track of any data regarding everyone elses rank on the other team so you’re merely pulling some guesswork that strives to glorify your own ‘skill’.
