100 people play pvp but over 1000 play Pve, don’t expect much is what Ive learned. Pvpers dont even spend money on gems like the Pve’ers so we get no love!

Custom arenas and finishers, thats what you can pick up from the gemshop as a pvper, as it stands right now the incentive to play pvp is very low compared to pve so people stay clear of it. Unfortunately the mentality that this very topic describes helps further the problem as people would rather rage directly at other players OR write a fancy topic on the subject, than to actually adress the issue: Namely that the other player most likely was new to the playstyle that the more competitive PvP requires and such needs to be informed.

Now I know that you mentioned Salazan and the lack of dodges you have, I felt that I should note that it is perfectly possible to beat him without dodging at all.

I know… The dodges was in reply to the person saying that the mechanic to beat him was to dodge, dodge, dodge… Dodges is just one of the ways to handle a single ring of his waves being in “the wrong” pattern… I’ve said it before… My comments on Salazan is in no way that I find him hard… Not at all… Im just saying it’s 100% luck based, rather than skill based… It’s either super simple because you’re in luck, or it’s impossible that try, because you’re not… There’s no skill involved in it at all…

Salazan puts down a ring of fire arround you then proceeds with firing “waves of fire” right at you, if you wait for the wave to be just about to reach you before you take a step to the side and repeat this process, there will be nothing luckbased about it as you will constantly have room to move within that ring of fire while still avoiding his groundtargeted spell… There’s no luck involved in it at all…

Hi all, Firstly I want to say thanks for tuning in and I hope you enjoyed the stream! I have to keep this short and sweet as work awaits.

1. We would of loved to have the opportunity to have the finals on a separate day! Unfortunately, we didn’t get this luxury as we have to organize all the legals for the teams ASAP to get them to PAX in time.

2. All round, we didn’t get the luxury of time. That is why registration etc was so short. The easy option would of been to skip this PAX and bring you nothing. Instead we have all donated our time, our weekends, our sleep to bring you all an event you deserve.

3. We are sorry you feel this way about the Bo5, had you of complained or even questioned us we would of been happy to discuss or keep as Bo3.

4. We new it was a close match up and felt a Bo5 is clearly going to be the fair option.

I just want to finish this post by saying, this won’t be the last tournament, all of the teams that missed out and all of the teams that are going to form, go hard! Get excited, get practice and we hope to see you in the Mists!

1. If we look at your brackets, we could’ve simply done it like this instead:
All in all you had 31 games played, 15 the first day, 16 the second.
What could’ve been done would be to finish up all of RO16 in the first day(24 matches) thus cutting it down to 6 matches + finals in the second day, this would’ve evened out the fatigue that CC must’ve suffered from after having played their entire brackets right before the finals compared to Paradigm who had roughly a day to prepare. This would’ve made Day 1 longer and I do understand that casting it nonstop is alot of effort, that could easily be fixed by either setting up 2 streams and thus halfing the time(and unfortunately the viewers), or by having a rotation of casters set up to not burn them out.

2. I enjoyed watching some of it, but most of it was simply a blur.

All in all thank you for providing a start to the esports stage, long road ahead tho.

we got FORCED , no one asked us if we agreed to play bo5.

It is pretty much standard procedure in esports to add 2 rounds to the finals, if the tournament is played as a BO3, then the finals will be a BO5, if the tournament is a BO5, then the finals would be a BO7, and so forth.

However!
You could’ve easily taken the first map to explain that due to a heavy strain from a long day of competitive matches you were to prefer if the finals were ALSO to be played as a BO3, that you, even after being informed that it was a BO5, waited with doing so until you had lost, simply shows that you’re merely a sore loser whos grasping for straws.

Yes, that’s normal. But it’s also normal that it is stated in the rules that the final will be longer. In any other competitive setting I know of that would be fine, but when the rules say that ALL matches will be the same length, changing it for the final would see the TO banned from hosting sanctioned events.

So am I to asume that you’re one of the disgruntled players who was “Forced” into a BO5 yet didn’t question it until they had lost said BO5 despite knowing the rules were in their favor?

Can we ban asura from the pax tournament?

in PvP

Posted by: Lue.6538

Lue.6538

Wow Just…Wow 0.0 is this really a issue?? I see it now hey A-net nerf asura there too OP. Gezzus Kryst ppl will complain about anything. Alright this does sound fun though let me take a swing at this. I think Charrs should be banned from tpvp cause i was fighting a team of 5 charrs and they all were so big they were taking uo the entire node and i died dude to not being able to see where the enemy necro/rangers were throwing there wells/traps . Hows that does that sound legit or what!?

Well, yeah that sounds totally legit, but you’re exaggerating, whereas the quality of the stream provided combined with all players using the smallest race causes the animations to be severly difficult to spot in comparison to if you were to have nothing but Charrs on the field. Add to this the massive amounts of particles present when players cast AoE spells, and you will be having a very hard time seeing what is actually going on.

Now if you struggle with seeing what happends during a fight, you’ll be less inclined to watch the tournaments, with less viewers the tournaments loses alot of its appeal and without that, there will be no aspiration to make further tournaments.

A simple fix to this would be to either have all players be restricted to a race with more clear animations(such as humans, charr or sylvari) or present an opportunity for the players to simply have the opponents appear as a “standardized” avatar.

But you know, your charr problem clearly is the same.

Edit: That said I would’ve personally prefered to see the way it all played out be a bit different, they should’ve played up to either Round of 8 or round of 4 in the first day for both brackets and then held off with the same amount of matches for both teams during the last day.

Oh yea and Zhaitan as well.

Yes I know that we beat Abaddon in GW1, it doesn’t change anything I said tho: If one of the most powerful entities in all of tyria can be stomped by anyone, it takes away quite abit of the “epicness” of it all.

U must be drunk..Why u don’t pick warrior and actually see how fine they are? Crying that warrior is op right now proves ur just nothing else, but a troll.

You my good sir completely missunderstood what I had written and I’ve not once stated that warriors are OP so begone.

I like how you unquoted my post that clearly shows I mention Sig of Might, Heals, and the Rampage change.

“Go read the notes, this patch was mostly just changes to Rampage, Sig of Might, and Healing buffs.”

I address that I forgot the OH sword change since it does not apply to the CC builds being talked about here.

Nice trolling sir.

It is far easier simply shouting troll rather than accepting that you messed up huh?
I didn’t quote that message because it was actually irrelevant at that point seeing as you specifically stated:
instead of just being a kitten why don’t you tell me what I am downplaying?
And then proceeded with listing the patchnotes but still attempting to make the changes appear lesser than they actually were, I refer to in this case the Rampage updates, while they’re all dependant on Rampage, they’re actually adjusting several sub-skills of rampage. Just as you did with the healing buffs “hurrdurr they only buffed heals”, you summed it up in a manner that simply downplayed the value of the changes.

And finally you ignored the OH change because you decided that it wasn’t worth mentioning which truly speaks for itself.

Mesmers are no longer viable.

Posted by: Lue.6538

Lue.6538

That’s the problem. You’re solo queuing. We are talking about the meta. Competitive play. High rank and High level gameplay. You wouldn’t be feeling the effects of the issue at hand.

Well, no thats not at all the problem, the problem is that people are hellbent on using a particular build that is no longer as powerful and rather than adapting, they’re simply changing professions as there are builds for those professions that are tried and tested, this has actually little to do with metagaming but rather with people being unwilling to try something new as it may lose them a couple of games in the process of discovering something new.

As a follow up to this particular event tho you get into metagaming, enough people believe that profession X is OP, thus causing more of this profession to appear in competitive play, thus further fueling the illusion that they are infact OP, this at hand causes people to asume that profession Y is therefor less viable than profession X, but rather than experimenting with Y, they will simply concede and play X instead.

You’re infact not even talking about the meta here, you’re talking about balance.

As for the last statement you made? Well that is just plain dumb on your behalf, we can take Phanta here as example as hes in this particular thread, if he rerolls to a necro, odds are more people of his previous profession will do the same as they will draw the conclusion that again, necros must be pretty kitten good, thus sparking a new flood of necros to appear, thus changing matchups regardless of wether it is hotjoin, tPvP solo que or tPvP teams, so even if I were to do nothing but soloQ, I’d still be seeing the effects just as much as those actively competing with full teams, that you believe anything else just goes to show just how little comprehension you actually have of what “metagame” actually is.

Best of luck.

Yes, as you posted here:

only thing that changed for Warrior this patch were some buffs to the heals

You downplayed the value of the buffs recieved to the heals, you also flat out ignored the OH sword and now you base that upon a specific build not having any use for it, yet, it is a buff.
Furthermore I do understand that you summed up all the rampage changes into 1, yet by doing that you makes it look like less of a change that it is.

All that aside tho, warriors are fine, abit heavy on the CC but overall they’re fine.

Yes, we’ve been slowly getting some love….and I didn’t even feel weak before because I was experimenting with other builds instead of just trying to run old ones and crying that they couldn’t compete.

This forum is always good for a quick laugh.

I agree, your post for example, which downplays the amount of changes the warrior recieved.

Not saying they’ve gotten a complete overhaul that made them into the most OP thing ever, but people are trying new builds now and those are quite strong, something I find far more hilarious is the amount of people who suddenly complain about mesmers being underpowered all of a sudden, when they were buffed in the latest patch.

no no, its about developing a rich pvp in game modes, trait synergies, balance, rewards, and all those thing that should´ve been there in reléase.

And out of all these things you listed, the one thing I’d be able to agree upon would be lackluster rewards, granted the game only offers you 1 game mode, but that game mode is also perfectly fine for competitive play, traits could always be worked upon and this holds true for any game where option X locks you out of option Y which is the case with traits, overall however, I’d say the traits are fine.
Balance could not have been present for launch as the game was on the whole, untested, aside from that the vast majority of the complainers regarding balance are simply experiencing someone better than them beating them to a bloody pulp.

when a large mass of the population states their disconform with the pvp mode, its because there are wider reasons than "shifting / suiting " The meta to their likes. You can speak to lots of people in the mists and they´ll tell you the same thing, we lack tons of content for a rich pvp.

This is pure speculation, the “large mass” that you talk about is infact an unknown variable, as far as you and I know, it might be less than .1% of the players who are actually being vocal about it.
And you can talk to an equal amount of people who simply loves the PvP the way it is, but they’d like some better rewards or more achievementpoints, regardless; until you present a survey where you question a significant amount of players in the mists, you’re just speculating.

Therefore, hype unadecuatly provided, demands unsatisfied for the vast majority of customers. They (if they deserve to be a good venture) ought to work hard in order to solve all these issues and provide a healthy pvp experience (which nowadays, it isnt, e.g. solo q vs premade, etc etc etc.) Regardless you want to blame customers for not having fun in it.
;)

Again, the vast majority as you put it, is pure speculation on your part and holds no value.

As for your “healthy pvp experience”, that would be simply put: If you enjoy playing it and you can do so without throwing hissy fits, then you’re having a “healthy” pvp experience. I can do that right now even while solo queuing.

Just 1 thing in this regard. IF arena-net sells the game as an e-sport AAA pvp game, they are bonded to this promise, and therefore should bring players what they offered via hype.

To sum up, us the customers, have been betrayed by a very poor developed pvp, so we legitimately demand for a satisfaction in our needs.

The demands revolve mostly around having the meta altered to suit your playstyle.

Southsun Survival is just… an awful minigame. I have never had such little fun playing a game. Even winning yields the same results, so don’t say, “Oh it’s because you’re bad at it you think it’s bad.” let me tell you that even people who are bad at something can still critic it, however I am not bad at it. So let’s go over what’s horribly wrong with it.

Southsun Survival is just… an amazing minigame. I have never had so much fun playing a game within a game(gameception). I do wish winning would grant slightly better rewards but I don’t mind, I’ve been playing it cause I’ve enjoyed it rather than for the rewards.

I like the start, you either grab something and risk getting shot, clobbered or trapped in the process, or you run off for adventures somewhere else, I’ve also died right off the start on purpose, because if you’re unlucky during the initial stages, you might end up with low hp and no rations, killing yourself during the grace period grants you a ration + an arrow, which in some cases have put me at a better position than where I was before I died.
That you complain about it being crowded does kinda tell that you are at best average at this, for starters the play-area is huge, during the start theres countless of places where you can get into cover quickly enough to avoid most of the zergfest that will take place for the first 1-1½ minutes.
The headshot ability is of little concern as both ability 1 and 3 interupts it aswell as its channel being long enough for you to be able to line of sight it the majority of the time, my one concern with this is when someone gets out of a camo kit there will be no animation for them casting it, thus timing your dodge is hell.

I just can’t agree with this, theres enough ways to counter it, I personally haven’t really been using it much lately, I prefer crippling my opponents.

The karkas are easily dodged even when they spawn right ontop of you, the karkas are also vital for shorting the game down as they can cut off access to the various camps and thus limit the amount of supplies accessible to the survivalists, thus they are infact reducing both food and utilities availible. The one issue I have here is that the ghosts spawn right ontop of the person who killed them, thus a better player will be running around with a trail of ghosts spamming traps and karkas on them, a more appropriate approach may be to randomly teleport the ghost.

The grace period points are easily stackable if you stick around the start and fire at people, it is horribly boring tho however I’ve yet to see anyone doing this be the last charr standing.
One thing I believe could be appropriate tho would be to give people 10 points per stack of hunger they survive up to, so if you survive up to hunger*2 = 20p, hunger*3 = 30p etc, most games end at hunger*4 and that gives the later survivors a slight boon in points over the ones early deadified.

We don’t know why the reactor exploded. Also abaddon is dead who cares about him, the reactor might have something that matters about the current dragons. Then I must vote for Evon Gnashblade, it would be highly inappropriate of me to deny those poor souls access to such glorious content.

And as for who may care about abaddon? Well based on the amount of support we can see not only in this thread but in many others, I’d say quite a bunch of people, myself included as I’d like to see something that reconnects (sortoff) to gw1.

So you basically played 33 games average. Every game lasts for what, 10-15 minutes?
So you spent something like 5-7 hours just playing survivor.
Well, congratulations for not having a job.

Based on the fact that a day is roughly 24h long, a fulltime job is anywhere between 6-10h(averaging out at 8h) and that a person sleeps roughly 4-8h(lets say 6h)..

That leaves us with: 24-8(work)-6(sleep)-7(Southsun Survivor) = 3, thus we can conclude that even with a full time job he would have 3h to spare in a day, how very crude of you to conclude that he doesn’t have a job.

That said, I’ve spent about 3h on it, I’ve got 1100 points, should be done at around the 7-8h mark myself.

I fail to see how the length of time it takes you to spend $300 matters. You will still pay $300 for a single weapon skin, whether it is over 1 week or 6 months.

My main issue with the survival mini-game are the ghosts, they just make you not want to move. You’re bound to walk over a disarm trap, fall and have them spawn a karka on you. I’d definitely be more aggressive if I didn’t have to fear moving in general. Other than that I do enjoy the mini-game, although I think they could get away with speeding up the hunger debuff.

Most of the time the ghosts I’ve been up against have been spamming me with karkas and they’re actually fairly easy to survive.. however in 1 round the ghosts managed to shut down 3 of the hubs with misc. goods using karkas and that was a really interesting game to play

And to whomever said the match is slow to play, well not really, if you end up with 2-3 of those people who just rush to a far corner with 9 rations and camp until everyone else starves then yes, you’re in for atleast a 10min game.

When doing the trial for each candidate Gnashblade says he wants the loot for himself and Kiel says she wants to return the loot to its owner. Why on earth would anyone want to elect Evon Gnashblade to “serve the people”?

And before anyone answers “Abaddon”, would you really rather have a visual representation of lore you’ve known for eight years over a chance to learn something entirely new about the world of Tyria in the Reactor Meltdown?

My one and only concern is that he doesn’t share that treasure with me.

So effectively you’re saying in GW1, there wasn’t a choice.

There were plenty of choice, just not what race to pick.

So then now that we have a choice, why make new lore and new content about a GW1 god, about something that happened circa GW1, instead of lore and content that is relevant for GW2?

The gods from GW were always relevant for GW2 but even more so from the moment you were capable of choosing which one to follow in the character creation screen.
Oh and since they’re having the option to implement the abaddon fractal in the first place, I’d say that is definitly lore and content that is relevant for GW2, stop trying to downplay its worth just because you want the asuran reactor.

Reincarnate Master Togo and put him to work, he’ll sort this trading lark out in a jiffy.

Their responses actually prove the point I made in the OP.

By arguing about how important Abaddon is, while dismissing the value of the Thaumanova Reactor, they’re demonstrating how the GW franchise has placed importance upon human lore, while leaving the lore of other races to feel inconsequential and tacked on.

So just to clarify, GW 1, which is a game where you could only play as the human race, has placed importance upon the human lore.

Yep, that sounds about right.
But personally I’ll support Evon, simply because the only thing I’ve found interesting about Asuras so far has been polymock.

And if you don’t stop asking we’re not stopping for mcdonalds.

Which is a good thing, unless you want obese children.

Well, I suppose if you cant restrain yourself from devouring the entire menu then sure.

I’d rather not see any gods make it into the game at all because if a god can be beat by a ragtag crew of 5 players on a daily basis, they sure aint that godlike.

2nd I asked this, last time for BotFW. I’m starting to feel like a child in the back seat asking, “Are we there yet?”

No.

So, you are saying you wont let your friends win even if he doesn’t have the achievement..

I intentionally didn’t answer your question as I’m expecting a response from the person I posed it to first.
So no, I didn’t say that I would nor wouldn’t let them win.

Also, in most fighting games you are able to use the same character, hence, the same moves and combos, which is a level playing field (which in this case, we do have the exact same moves but, we don’t have the same latency, having to wait that extra couple of seconds before a jump would easily add up to an extra couple of minutes)

So lets return to what I said in my previous post: Fighting games rarely, if ever, have a leveled playing field.
For this particular case, I’ll take DOA5 as an example, theres 29 characters availible in it, all 29 plays in vastly different ways with its own pros and cons, some have longer reaches, some have stronger throws and so forth.
Now in the majority of the cases, this is infact not a leveled playing field, yes, you can pick the same character to even it out but that doesn’t mean the entire game actually has a even field, because they don’t.

Yes, the latency is unfortunate. It is however not up to the other competitors to restrict themselves in order to adjust to this.
