During seasons we hated fighting Mag, just no fun fights it was always nice to get back to fighting BG. I was on FA from launch and always said I never wanted to be in T1 because “its nothing but zergs” then I moved to TC (in its T1.5 phase) and we made the jump to T1 and I was quite surprised to find more fun roamers in T1 than in T2.
You got your big old blobs but the zerglings on T1 servers tend to be trained well enough that they don’t bother trying to run down the roamers. The blobers keep to themselves and the roamers get to feast on the zergling re-spawns (omnomnom)
And its not that T1 servers are really fielding that many more people during things like NA prime time, its that we have 24×7 coverage T2 servers will have big gaps in EU or SEA time where T1 servers can clean up.

Zerker guard requires you to know how to play your opponents build as well as you know your own build. You have all the blinds and blocks you could ever wish for you just have to know when and how to use them. In my play, both players being of equal skill, zerker guard can beat Hambows and engies (any type) but will really struggle against a good condi necro. The good news is 99.9% of condi necros are terribad.

How you loose to hambow warriors and engies is beyond me. Drop 3 points from Radiance and move it to Virtues for Absolute Resolution and PU mesmers will stop being any problem.

If you plan to deal direct damage go zerker if you want to be bulky go condi. Nine times out of ten it will be better for you to use downed team mates as bait and dps down anything trying to spike, and you wont be scarring anyone with your dps if you are wearing knights or …. soldiers.

Why isnt there a new pvp reward track tied to the Gates of Maguuma release. Don’t get me wrong I have been loving the new content and I’m not saying its not enough but, if you recall they said in the pvp reward track blog post during the lead up to the feature pack
as new Living World and holiday content is released, associated Rewards Tracks will be available for the duration of those events. Once you have experienced and participated in the Living World content, you will unlock an associated Reward Track so you have the option to continue to receive relevant rewards in PvP. This will ensure that PvP is always a part of the bigger story that is unfolding in Tyria.

Most of the wvw playerbase has accepted their role in the grand scheme of things. It is our duty to toil on in terrible conditions week after week so that pvers can have more HP friday morning. If they gave us any sort of reward like tomes from badges we might get silly ideas about new maps.

I think some simple rewards would go along way, towards bringing folks back. Gold rewards for players who have actively participated in wvw at the end of each week, 1g 50s for a win, 1g for 2nd place and 50s for 3rd and possibly a roll for ascended items or rare skins tied to wvw rank, similar to fotm ring rolls. While its not much (a couple hours of dungeons would make more) that might be enough to encourage players to push for their server each week.

There are situations and builds that can capitalize on all of the guardian heals, shelter is very strong but not flat better.
Saying that if you use X skill or X trait you are automatically “bad” is exceptionally stupid. I know of quite a few highly skilled players who use traits/skills that would get them called out as a moron by most of the kitten s on the forums.

Well after reading Lynnies comment I sat back and realized that I really hadn’t done much solo roaming with it since I mostly roll with 5-10 people. So I jump on and roamed for a day or two and….yah I see your point, I would take my zerker dd build for roaming over this.
I agree swapping attunements is a good practice but when you are playing the “bait” as Nabarue said I still think you should stay in earth.

Stone splinters gives a bit of a damage boost, its better used with the LH than the axe. Rock solid would require you to drop out of earth and then come back to it, with a 13 second attunement cool down that is an awefull long time to wait just to shield your heal skill. And you wont have stone heart up so you are taking a great deal more damage while you wait.
I stick with Geomancers to make bunkering down easier if I need to.

You have conjures up plenty so no I would not trade stability and condi clears for more conjures. Staff skills while attuned to earth are still very poor for alpha damage and staff provides less utility (in earth magic) than S/F. Regen when crit would be pretty pointless considering the whole point of this build is to use stone heart, in which you cannot be critically hit.

Believe it or not I have never had some one aoe bomb my conjure on the ground, I don’t know why its what I would do against this but I ran it all season and never once can I remember that happening.
Allys do tend to want to pick up your LH cause most people know its good dps, I have had more than one person pm me to tell me not to use axe cause its “really bad in wvw” so folks tend to steal it way less. But even if they do you can bunker down really hard with your S/F and just wait for the cool down. Or if the fight is going well and its not looking like you will end up needing to bail just pop FGS and kill use it till the axe is up again.
I have full guard stacks so I don’t really need any more vit off my gear, I could see adding some in for pve or if you lack guard leach. With perception stacks and food I have a 51% crit chance which I feel is enough. I personally do not run this build in pve as I find monsters are way less reliant on crits than players, there I just go full glass.
A knights amulet with runes of the dolyak could be pretty funny in spvp

You could totally slot on mist form in place of cleansing fire, I just really like having the extra condi clears.
I started running this with LH and it kept bugging me how hard it is to land hits on targets that are kiting me, so I gave the axe a shot (which I had previously written off) and was quite pleasantly surprised with how well it performs, that added mobility lets you be the one ding the kiting!
Both are fine weapons and there are certainly advantages to both (LH damage is a sweet sweet thing) Just saying don’t discount the axe.

Stone Heart Conjuror!
Aka the ele that thinks its a guardian.
My stone heart build has become my primary wvw build for my ele because it combines good damage output with an immense capacity for soaking up damage on a class that most wvwers target first, wrongly assuming all eles are squishy. In small (10 on 10 or less) fights you can hold the agro of the whole enemy force for the duration of a fight without even coming close to going down and deal 2-5k hits all the while.

Gear:
Full cav armor and half cav half zerk trinkets allows you to keep a 50% crit chance and sit right around 3k armor that cant be critically hit. That armor gives a 34.95% reduction in base damage, in addition to this you have protection up quite often, an extra 33% damage reduction. While you are taking very little direct damage (I tested with against a full zerk warrior, his full 100b channel did around 3.5k) you still have 1900 power, 50ish% crit chance and 206% crit damage allowing you to deal decent damage back to your foe.
Runes/Sigils:
Traveler runes are a must, 25% movement speed lets you not waist a utility skill on staying mobile and boon duration keeps regen, protection, vigor and stability up as long as possible plus you get damage and toughness stats! Sigils sadly are pretty boring, because you have so much cav armor crit chance has to come from something and accuracy and perception are about the only options.
Utility/Weapon skills:
For this build your weapon skills are really just extra utility’s, because you must stay in earth magic at all times and earth magics power based damage output is terribad. So we go with a weapon set that provides the most utility, scepter focus.
Rock Barier should be cast every time its off cool down as its an extra 100 armor
Dust Devil is a nice little blind
Magnetic Wave is a fantastic 3 condi clear that can be used to reflect projectiles (very fun vs a kill shot warrior)
Obi Flesh is 4 seconds of invuln, huge for getting clutch finishers off or for shielding your heal from interrupts
Ether Renewal on a 15 second cool down lets you bunker down if you need to, I have yet to find a power build that can kill you in 15 seconds
Cleansing Fire clears 3 condis on its own and 1 from the regen application, depending on what you are fighting it can be dropped for lightning flash
Armor of earth is also fantastic for covering your heal/getting a stomp off plus it also clears 1 condi!
Conjure Flame Axe is my preference for primary conjure weapon as it provides better mobility than hammer and its a ranged weapon so it just generally easier to keep applying damage. However it is lower damage than hammer, you have to decide if being mobile and hiting for a max of 4k is enough or do you want to work harder to hit the target but be able to hit for 6k.
Conjure Fiery Great sword is a no brainier as your elite, its great from breaking off from a fight, chasing down runners or keeping dps up on classes that can kite you.
Game Play:
STAY IN EARTH MAGIC AT ALL BLOODY COST, trust me swapping out of earth while in a fight, even to get a heal from water will end up loosing you more hp than it gains. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen enemy stone hearts die when they panic and pop out of earth. Use Ether Renewal before you really think you need it, in fact any time you cant be dealing damage use it, with a 15 second cool down it will be up again the next time you need it and maintaining high hp will almost never hurt you. Don’t be afraid to aa with your scepter its not great damage but each channel will do around 1k alpha damage and the bleeds will actually do enough condi damage to make players start popping clears, after all being 30 in earth magic and having runes of the traveler (plus guard stacks) means you have 300-400 condi damage, not much but its enough to make people think your condi.
Over all this is one of my favorite wvw builds right now partly because of the trolly armor levels and partly because no one really knows what to do against you, I have never seen another power based stone heart ele using conjures in wvw and 99% of my opponents haven’t either. This is also one of the few builds I know of that is equally effective rolling in a zerg as it is roaming or havocing, just slot on your lighting hammer and stack with the guardians!
I went ahead and posted this because I have yet to see any one on the official forums post a working stone heart power build and I thought I would fix that! I will see if I can record some video of this in wvw (assuming people start playing wvw in my time zone again)

I would say yes it is the most simple to a point, much of your defense is quite passive which means compared to other classes its quite a bit easier to do reasonably well on it without knowing very much about the finer points of play. However the same things that make it easy to start on make it very hard to do truly well on.

Almost anything in wvw out side of zergs will be able to do well better than 450 dps even to something with 3700 armor making your regen next to meaningless.

I realize you are asking about shouts in specific but you also asked about “getting into long drawn out fights where you slowly die” and the simple answer is, very poor dps and entirely group based recovery.
As a since launch roamer I’m here to tell you if you want to really be successful you really must kill whatever your target is as fast as possible. Against a good roamer being tanky just means you take longer to kill off, you aren’t dangerous, just tedious.
Altruistic healing is vastly more useful in groups where you can aoe cap your boon application. Where in a group each boon you apply heals you for 370, roaming it only heals for 74 which is awfully poor to try and sustain you against roaming builds.
My advice, learn to play meditation guardian if you want to roam. Medis give you the mobility, condi clear and recovery to be very dangerous to any opponent. Over all its a much more sable platform for roaming than shouts. There is a reason why tier 1 guardian streamers are generally playing some form of medi guardian.

Anyway, my mostly-zerker 6/2/0/0/6 Powermancer doesn’t have infinite fights with other Zerker builds. Unless it’s a Thief who can disengage at will, my fights end, and often very swiftly.
Thats mostly because necro only really gets a heal skill so getting hp back after you lost it is hard, plus zerk necros pressure is such that there is no tanking it. There are only three options fighting a good zerker necro, kill it in 5 or so seconds, CC him into the ground, run away or die horribly, most any way it works out its a quick fight.
Medi guardian on the other hand get his heal for 5-8k depending on the skill 2k of each utility and 2k of his virtues which he can use twice. Triple M guards can get hp back any time they like.

I’m gonna take a guess here and say you ran away to let adrenal health and heal sig pop you up a bit before attacking again? If so that’s your problem tripple m guardian can have short enough cool downs he will heal as much or more than you.
I find the logic of saying two zerkers cant kill each other deeply flawed by the fact that you very likely reset the fight to some extent. Your argument wouldn’t hold true of you stayed in contact and just beat it out. Not saying resetting the fight is bad, it just invalidates the claim.
Also anyone who thinks a zerker guard cant beat a zerker warrior…lets go to spvp and I will educate you!

The issue I see with that is even on my triple M guardian that I blow virtues on all the time I will almost always have all three up when I enter combat an extra 15% damage on the uber glass build I run would but insane to the point of truly over powered.
What might be better is a 5% dmg increase on Justice 100 Vitality from Resolve and 100 Toughness from Courage.

Honestly Thief shouldn’t have much trouble with a DD ele IF (and that can be a big if) they can get out of the first combo.
With the DD ele build I use if you don’t stun break my first knockdown you will be dead in about 3 seconds. Watch out for Ride the Lightning 2k-4k > Updraft > Burning Speed2 2k-4k > Flame Grab 7k-14k. If you make them blow Flame Grab your chances go up dramatically once that rotation is over the eles dps ability drops pretty dramatically. The only other thing to really watch for is Lightning Flash 2k-4k > Churning Earth 7k-16k.

Yep as long as you are straight zerker and have lich form off cool down I see no way to loose to a stun warrior. Its just battle math you have more hp and do more damage every time you hit him, as long as you have stability he can’t beat you.
And if your fighting a hammer warrior then he can’t effectively run away from you because chances are he has Hammer/Longbow or Hammer/Mace+? and so gets none of the speed that GS/S+WH gets.
Hit your swiftness and a chill or cripple and kill the coward as he runs for his miserable life.

Damage is damage, most anything built with enough zerker is gonna wreck your day if you give them half a chance. Thief is on the low end of the bullkitten stick, in fact me and most of my guild feels thief damage is to low for the amount of hp they have to sacrifice. You don’t see many long time thiefs playing pure DD burst because its VERRY easy to get killed if you make one single mistake.

What game are you playing? cause it sure isn’t gws. You will be hard pressed to find a class that can deal 5k+ a hit for over 2 minutes straight. If they do more than you its only burst and the have low hp/armor so you DS and win. If they can take some of your hits and not die, they do no damage so you just tank them and win…..
