I think we are in a “point of no return” for pvp scene and all depends on Anet choice.

2 super important decisions:

1- Splitting queue for every game modes (conquest, DM, Stronghold)
2- Increase the balance frequency (really important too)

With 2 these steps, PVP scene can grow A LOT.

The alternative is game over.

In general i think splitting queue could have a positive effect on DM too.

Think about it, now DM is behind an RNG system and it’s on a troll map (Courtyard, really small and really obstructured) with no secondary mechanics (for exampe no improvement buff).

What about if a large part of the community starts to play DM because they like DM? Anet could add different and better maps with different secondary mechanics and this could attract a lof of more people.

Of course it’s the same for stronghold and in general for conquest.

Now stats on how many players like DM are not really usefull because it’s a map behind an RNG system (3 options and there is only 1 DM map, so less chance to be chosen from the roster maps) i think with separated queue, Anet could have really better data about how many players like a game mode.

A system who forces people to play what they don’t want to play is simply bad.

3 Game modes (Conquest, DM and Stronghold) are enough imho, a huge step forward.

And we have already them.

Yeah, this is a terrible scenario, it’s an incredible waste of time/resources/ads/blogs/events/videos/realtimeshow to put a new game mode like stronghold behind this system.

Really, can’t do this mistake.

And BTW this is an old issue, DM should be in a different queue too.

Many people like DM, probably more people would play DM if there were a dedicated queue and maybe with better maps (more open space) it could be very fun.

Many times you think “eh the spvp population is low” but have u considered the fact that is low because people don’t like conquest and would play other game modes?

I want to apologise to the GW2 community, in advance, after watching the recent ready up and after some consideration, I have decided that in the future whenever I will be forced to play Conquest, I will automatically leave the game, no exceptions.
I want to play Stronghold and no conquest, that’s it. ….Again I’m sorry, but I really hate Conquest, reason why I’m not playing atm.

And the sad story is if they share the queue, we’ll have a LOT of leavers after the map selection, and this break the system they made to avoid leavers at beginning (force us to stay in the mist, waiting for queue).

Not a smart decision, basically no sense at all.

Yeah I agree, there is a big contraddiction about “new builds and new play style” and sharing the queue with Conquest and Courtyard map.

Other thing, guild leaderboard and same queue? So same 5 men MMR average to determine a guild leadaerboard?

Honestly I thought the access to Stronghold depended on Guild Hall, with 1 guild (1 team) having an unique MMR (for the entire guild).

This is not an optimal choice, basically you’re saying the chance to play stronghold is behind a RNG.

It’s too different from other modes, it require strategy and different builds, queue can’t be the same

Many players will want to train only on stronghold, many player will come back only for stronghold, hide this new gamemode behind an RPG option is a huge mistake.

Basically you’re breaking the legs to a very shiny baby.

Anet could link one component to spvp/www season final result, for example one piece of the new precursor collection (for new legendary).

Or for pve players, linked to a really challenging pve content (but NOT rng).

Example sab tribulation, liadri etc.

It would be more “legendary” for sure.

I forgot, little OT but very very important:

Balance Frequency

With HoT we’ll have 9 new specs (A LOT of new stuff) + 1 new prof. Without a fast balance, the entire pvp scene risks to collapse.

Have you plan to speed up (at least 1 month) the balance frequency and not a 6 month old meta anymore?

I think is really crucial.

I’ve like 300 tomes in bank but i’m not sure 100% i will use them on revenant to get an instant 80. It depends on many things, mastery points, precursor collection and specializations for other classes first of all, so i can evaluate to do a 100% map completion with the new prof without using tomes.

Btw it seems a mix of many conquest map mechanics

supply = Orb (spirit watch)
Lord and guards = Foefire
Trebuchet = Khylo
Heroes (chance to come back) = Temple buffs

Luckily no skyhammer mechanic (i hope)

1_how will work the leaderboard and the matchmaking for stronghold? A guild will have a single mmr?

2_ It will be possible to play stronghold without guild hall or you need it?

3_ Stronghold will have the same spvp infrastructure has conquest now ? (Practice, unranked, ranked)

4_ what about rewards and seasons? It would be possible to exp pvp tracks in stronghold?

5_ how much is the time limit for a stronghold match? Who will win the game if both of lords are still alive at the end of time limit? (I mean, how score is calculated)

Rewards are important but TIER are most important.

Because if you put amazing rewards and always the same people/team win these rewards, you don’t solve the problem.

So, it means not only high Tier tournaments but also “good” Tier tournament with good reward And league system in the game.

In this way competion and scene can grow.

It’s interesting, of course we need to try it but there are very interesting elements

1) NPC (not guards and lord of course) aren’t involved in a combat against players. It’s a good decision imho, NPC are a tactical gamemode mechanic, you need to take decisions about them.

2) there are different secondary mechanics. NPC, Trebuchet, Heroes. It gives variety and deepness (in theory) to gamemode.

3) There could be more “casual” role in a party. I think it’s important to attract a lot of players to PvP. I think team fight will be always very important but it could be a role for people who are not super strong in fight but they take good decisions and they have a good tactical match overview.

I dunno, it sounds interesting, Conquest failed about the attemp to attract a lot of people in pvp, maybe Stronghold will able to do this.

i dont think its very balanced that condi classes can’t take out trebs.

This is a general problem, i think at least burning should work on walls/turrets etc.

I can understand bleeding & c. don’t have much sense but some condis could work.

I think trebuchet it’s an interesting secondary mechanic, it requires more skill to aim than skyhammer , you can dodge the treb and the cover area is not huge. And yes, you can destroy it.

Honestly i think it’s fine.

Queue times longer than ever?

Many veteran players are AFK until the expansion or the next spvp season.

Why They should play now?

1) no season
2) useless leaderboard
3) solo vs premade issue
4) stuck in the Mist waiting for queue pop.

I don’t see great motivations to play.

Hi,
I know new expansion is generating a lot of hype and I’m really interested about HoT but i don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but i feel like in a “limbo” now, speaking about playing to gw2

I mean a lot of new stuff incoming but i think we need to wait several months (q3?) to have the hot release.

So…until HoT, there will be a new feature patch? Spvp or WwW Season? Sab? New stuff? Nothing?

First of all, i’m glad people are trying to make new teams, spvp scene needs teams for sure.

There are a lot of areas where you can improve, personal skill, teamfight skill, movements, ts communication etc. I’d start with a more clear idea about the base composition (classes) and roles (bunker/roamers ).

Congrats, OP. The Imbued Shaman transform is the coolest one of the lot, I feel. (It’s probably also the BIGGEST tonic transform in the entire game.)

I dunno if it’s the biggest but it’s really huge, here i did a screen in combo with the Bobblehead Lab

Honestly, I’m not a Tonic Fan but this endless tonic is really cool, it’s not only because it’s super rare but because the transformations are really well done.

It would be amazing if you could use them in combat like the watchknight tonic.

I really like 2vs2 or 3vs3 (pure DM) but i think the main problem is balance. To work 2vs2 and 3vs3 need rules about composition, amulets and stealth so it’s easy to generate ESL cup with rules and admin but to do this automatically in the game anet should ban a lot of combinations.

So basically it would be a very good game mode to play and to watch but wouldn’t show the entire professions potential for every combinations.

I’m pretty sure Stronghold will have many DM phases (like conquest but not around a small circle) so in general a pure 2vs2 or 3vs3 mode would be always a good training for “major” gamemode.

I’d like to see a challenge mode speed run based, with ingame leaderboards (best time), reset in every balance patch.

Something like if you go for the challenge mode, you need to finish the path under a time limit, if you can you get double final reward, if you fail you get nothing. You can repeat until you succeed. Double reward is only once a day (for path). Best time goes in leaderboard.

Something like that.

I hope it involves leveling the new masteries (lore, combat, flight) and actually finding pieces needed to forge the precursor.

So yes, precursors will be linked to new mastery system and you won’t need to forge it, precursors will be the final reward for the collection.

Competitive GW2 is designed for 5 v 5. The more people you add above 5, the more casual it becomes.

Johanson: Stronghold is our brand new game mode. It takes inspiration from the GvG game mode and from the Fort Aspenwood game mode from the original Guild Wars. It draws a little bit of inspiration from MOBAs and from what make Guild Wars 2 such a great PvP game.
The fundamental concept behind the game is to find and kill the enemy’s Guild Lord in their stronghold and, along the way, your team will fight for and gather supplies. You can spend supplies to hire troops that march towards your enemy’s stronghold, you can man a trebuchet to defend your own stronghold, and occasionally Heroes will appear on the battlefield that you can fight for control over. Whichever team wins them over, the Hero joins their side and joins the assault on the enemy stronghold. Within the stronghold, there are gates you need to bash your way down to fight your way inside and when you’re all the way in the heart of the stronghold, you can kill their lord and win.

I’d really like to know if the new precursor hunt is only for new precursors&legendary or for the oldest too (I think you will able to get every precursors).

I imagine the new precursor you can get with “epic quest” will be account bound.

And you will able to get new precursors by RNG or Mystic Forge too ?(honestly, i’d like to have new precursors only linked to “epic quest” but i don’t think it will happen).

And i’d really like to know if the recipe for the new legendary will be standard (i mean gift of mastery, gift of fortune, precursor and gift of legendary) or will have different components.

It’s really important for the market.

1) Balance patch needs to be more frequently. It’s very very important. 6 Months + for a balance patch is too bad for the game. At least 1-2 month min.

2) What i don’t want to see in new class/spec:

1_ IA does everything (and flying turrets scare me….)
2_ Instant unpredictable strong stuff (direct damage/CC/Condi)
3_ Too strong passive stuff.
4_ Bad animations.

And in general i like to see this approach on every classes/specs in the entire game.

Ahah, i thought the same thing…i mean, engi hammer is really cool but flying turrets….i hope it won’t be a flying turrets engi version dominated by IA.

Not sure if the specialisations are usable in pvp and class mechanic,utilities,heal change. Not confirmed how many and what type of spec they are either and please keep in mind the every 2 months balance patches and TDM queue.

It depends on HoT will be available for everyone or only if you buy HoT.

I see 3 scenarios:

1)In SpVp, new specs, profs are available to everyone. You don’t need to buy HoT. Conquest and Stronghold will have new specs and classes.

3) You can play Stronghold only if you buy HoT. New specs and profs only available in Stronghold but not in conquest.

3) New specs and profs only in PVE and not in spvp.

I think we need more details before judging.

It could be really interesting (very similar a moba style) or boring/too much pve oriented.

Dunno, i think we need to wait.

But for sure, conquest is a not a succesful game mode.

We had a lot of images about this game mode in the past so it’s not really a surprise.

The new Guild Leadearboard is also really interesting + new profs specializations (engi hammer, Necro GS, Ranger staff etc.) and the new class (ravenant).

I think they are enough changes to shake a lot of pvp scene.

I think another problem is to assign the correct rating value at every player. Many times rating isn’t really accurate about player skill, it would be interesting to not change rating completely but adjust it with other interactions.

For example with a Personal score rework (not how it works now) to better analize the single performance and with a mvp system (only in a positive way).

Ex. rating = 70-80% how it works now +20-30% mvp + Personal score rework.

To be honest Laserbolt, are you really sure team 1 would win? A 3-man team can only carry so much: if the two new players keep dying to Svanir, staying in lost fights or afking on the home node, team 2 could very well win. But like Justin, I’d like to believe that very low and very high MMR can’t be teamed like this, if they don’t play on New Year’s Eve at 11pm.

I agree, Team 2 is more equilibrated in skill, TS trio in Team 1 needs to carry really hard to compensate (probably) a bad game of other duo.

This is in general, maybe the duo would play 2 turrets engi, so it’s not really easy to establish only with math, who will win and odds (i always think profs and role have an high impact on winning chance).

In general I think Matchmaking shouldn’t match Team1 in this way, there is too much difference in rating between trio and duo and there isn’t the same situation in the other team.
