Not to be offensive, but if my friend finds the class either lacking or poorly designed, I believe him. He takes MMOs far more seriously than I do.
Your random metrics mean little. He played PvE a lot and the only good thing you can say about the PvE thief is auto attack damage.
All of them. Don’t pug raids. Do them with friendly people you know.
I agree that the dungeons should be put back to normal. You still need them to craft the original legendaries and other mystic forge weapons so nerfing it was a bad idea.
You still get tons of tokens. You’ll just have to run with all welcome groups and it’s probably quicker to kill mobs rather than explain how to run past them.
You may also need to run support builds to keep the pugs up if you aren’t skilled enough to solo the dungeon in full zerk gear.
I haven’t had trouble finding(making) groups yet.
@Azukas , if you can’t beat a Rev then learn to play kitten , don’t just go on forums and QQ. You could beat it before during S1, and after numerous nerfs you can deffinetly beat it now. Just for example, reapers and scrappers do great against revs. The class is in a strong position atm, but deffinetly not OP.
Like others have said the game should deffinetly not be balanced around team composition of pro league teams .. And as long as you can take advantage of the class mechanics , any class can fair quite well. Including mesmer.I have a Rev….I mean seriously who didn’t have a lvl 80 rev the minute HoT released???
Fact remains is Rev is being stacked and over performing keeping classes on the sidelines. That needs to change. You can’t argue against this. This is fact.
Rev is replacing thief and war. Idk about war, but thief is a trash class that is bad and busted it has caused friends who mained those classes to leave the game and PvP was never their main thing.
Yea, Thief has caused a lot of people to ragequit since it dominated the roaming role so much before.
Oh, you’re talking about Rev.Why is it taken over both?
Both Thief and Warrior have bad staying power in team fights (Thief just can’t handle the spam and Warrior has lackluster sustain right now), don’t stack well, and Thief in particular can’t buff the team much. Compare to Revenant, which does all of those things better. It’s just much better for team fights in Conquest and can defend points with Phase Traversal. That being said, why would you leave if your main is bad in sPvP and you don’t even play a lot of sPvP?
Thief and Warrior are both (mostly) fine in PvE and WvW (admittedly I don’t know that much about WvW, but Thief/Warrior roamers have an entire playground). You can have fun there just fine and find groups.
Not everyone is 100% zerk oriented and cares only about damage. My friend found the old acrobatics better than the new one and daredevil combined. In his mind v the thief doesn’t really do anything that useful.
Rocket Charge should not evade, simple as that.
Rev needs to get shiro and herald defensive traits tuned down.
I play too little necro to say what they should do with reaper but I always found cleansing five conditions and applying five conditions on a target on that cooldown was ridiculous. By now condition damage is so common I don’t get how necro gets away with dealing 200% better with it that other classes. In comparison a warrior shout willl cleanse a single condition and that’s it.
Shiro is not that good. I play necro a lot. Rev barely compares to the unmitigated glory that is Reaper. Rev is just a more active flexible play style. You guys keep wanting the game to be balanced around PvP when your suggestions would trash classes for PvE.

Straight buffs and bug fixes. Dev note telling other classes to get gud.
Reaper seems to be wanted everywhere.
Daredevil/Thief is woefully superfluous in sPvP until Shiro gets nerfed.
True and I’m salty that Revs have basically sidelined Thieves. Hopefully tomorrow after the “minor balance changes” that I hope to god aren’t that minor, we Thieves will be all like……
I hope thieves get a buff so my friend comes back to GW2
I’m playing on a craptop so everyone but me looks like stock chars with stock animations.
Except those videos of people doing the VG and ignoring the green circle.
People clicking skills with their mouse and most people on only exotics.
Your metas are dumb.
Or. And I know this may be crazy. But you could just play with people.
Maybe if you guys did less backflips to exclude people, you wouldn’t be having these problems.
You only have no chance of finishing a raid without a special build because players kick you not because the raids are hard.
Raids are where the most toxic elitist ignorant people gather and you have 10 people in your group, so chances are you will always be flamed.
Beautiful.
You reap what you sow.
Since you aren’t willing to explain raids people just stay silent.
Consider this retribution for all those Arah runs where I was trying to teach people lupi but they were too scared to ask for help because of people like you guys who refuse to play with people who haven’t already mastered the content or memorized your trite meta lingo.
Oh look it’s the same dude campaigning for rev nerfs on 4 different forums.
There is a reason devs stay on reddit rather than sifting through all this tosh
Rev does a bit of everything, has more rotation options, higher skill ceiling, and stacks well with itself. Just the consequence of having an mp bar.
Other classes could stand to be like rev. A friend of mine quit GW2 because his thief became trash and the buffs don’t help.
Revs are nearly trash tier. Thieves lose out because they are unmitigated garbage.
My good friend is a big mmo fan. He quit GW2 after the thief aa dagger buff because he finds it insulting. In his mind thief is trash now. The new acrobatics and daredevil lines combined are worse than the old acrobatics line in his opinion. He finds that thieves give garbage support with stealth only really being useful for skipping content. I myself deleted an 80 thief because I was lacking slots and having trouble purchasing gems.
No. No one needs a nerf to put thieves in a good spot. It is entirely the thief’s fault for it’s lack of representation.
Nerf rev all you want. There is no reason to take a thief over a reaper or berserker or really any other class. They do nothing.
PvP is not the endgame. For most people it’s something they do because they ran out of PvE content and are waiting for more PvE content.
For PvP focused people, PvE is just training.
Anet disincentivizing dungeons wouldn’t bother me so much if they hadn’t put precursor hunts in at the same time. Here everyone – what you’ve all been waiting for! Get your precursors here! *dungeon tokens not included
I know that instead of farming the tokens directly you can PvP for them, and why do I think that’s exactly what Anet would prefer us all to do? Bleah.
You’re suppose to run noobs through dungeons.
Each path still gives 60 tokens.
IMHO: Anet probably wants those only on for raids to log in once a week.
Threads like this is why in glad the devs have stopped paying attention to this Forum.
Vit increases your time to kill (ability to handle burst damage), toughness increases sustain because a lot of the time toughness will increase the effectiveness of a heal at a better ratio than healing power.
If you are looking for most effective health then you need to balance HP and toughness, no vit. You use vit to balance HP with toughness.
Without any ability to heal yourself or for groups to heal you, vit is just better, since you have no sustain. If I had to pick, I would just go for more armor to support my sustaining power.
I run celi though, so I appreciate both. When I’m learning a champs attack patterns, having the extra vit helps me survive the first mistake. My toughness and healing power then allow me to fill back up my HP.
It’s better to craft your gear than buy your gear in the long run. An initial investment now pays off in dividends come late game.
Though since you are leveling, you could just clear maps to get the maps you need. Every map clear gives a lump sum of mats and you can gather mats while clearing it.
Rev was probably stacked because they stack well. Most of their team support is boons and their support effects allies better than themselves. Other classes do unique forms of support that stack poorly with themselves.
I suspect that it is support that is really strong and not the rev. In other games a character that supports does less damage or is squishier.
Rev also has a high skill ceiling and is in a good spot within the PvP meta. Combine these facts with how stacking friendly the class is and you see why it was picked so much over others.
Oh wow yeah I remember that. Whenever I was in a HoT map someone in map chat would be cussing everyone out.
Huh. I found HoT too easy on my soldier necro → reaper so I started map clearing with a rev.
HoT content isn’t meant for glass builds. You have to be very careful and already know the tells for each mob to survive the cc spam. Try a balanced build and watch things be easier. You won’t get nuked for 50% of your health.
Oh and my reaper still solo’d HP’s within the time limit. There are DPS checks, that’s why a balanced build is required not nomads.
Engineers bring water fields and can self combo them.
If you have celi trinkets, them you may want to consider Mace. Mace 3 scales well with power and Mace 2 puts down fire fields. Mace 1 is where you will feel the lack of condi damage. Torment is more useful in WvW because players like to run around.
You may just want to get some exotic trinkets. To my experience you either go full celi or no celi. Ascended is not that big of a buff.
Hmmm what about cleric centaur stance with a staff?
The light field and the combos should help clear condis. Weakness will axe power builds.
At this point you need to time dodges and just try to widdle him down. I think you’ll camp in this stance and weapon since this is an attrition fight not a burst match.
And they will be just as fun as the current ones. Long, no damage, random fears, losing boons, fun times! >_>
I’m fairly confident they’ll be revamping the bad instabilities like Boon Thieves or Boon Fumbler at some point this year as well.
Unfortunatly, after the novelty (is that word correct? Cant check right now) has passed people will go back to 3 swamp runs. New fractals and new instabilities wont solve the problem.
It would for me. I enjoy running other fractals. But those instabilities usually keep me from swamping things up to much. I will throw in a snow blind sometimes just to break the shear boredom of swamps.
If boon fumbler, boon thief, afflicted and Last laugh were changed I would be very happy.
So rather than adapt to the antiglass mechanics, Anet needs to make things easier for all the leet glass players. K
Normaly I don’t feed trolls but why not.
I said nothing about glass gear. What I am referring to was the annoying instabilities.
As for glass gear gw2 is so easy there isn’t a reason to run anything else. There is nothing leet about it.
Anti-glass instabilities…
Making vague…. statements is not a counter argument I can do that too
Look you can complain about anti-glass mechanics and pretend its not because they make your play style harder, but if that is all you complain about, then it looks like you just dislike anti-glass mechanics.
I will respond to your post one last time. But if you can’t be bothered to read or give a good counter argument I will just ignore them from now on.
1. I never completed about anything anti glass.
I am still running the same glass builds now as I was before.
2. For the instabilities to be anti glass it would indicate that they would invalidate glass gear or at least make glass gear harder to play.
They don’t. I find glass gear just as effective as before. None of these instabilities have changed that.
3. It would also indicate that these instabilities are some how harder for a glass group then a standard throw together group with who knows what kind of armor.
Again they are not. My group blasted through the last laugh fractals with me only changing one set of traits for my guard. In the boon fumbler I litterly face tanked mossman on my warrior with no dodges because my friend on guard played so well I didn’t have too.
Never in any of my post did I complain about these instabilities being anti glass. I called them annoying. Nothing more. I don’t know if you are projecting your own frustration at it being anti glass into this or what. But I never said anything about them being harder or them being anti glass.
Good day
Oh yeah sure *wink
Pre end-game, GW is a fantastic RPG. At 80 is when the MMO specific mechanics begin to take over.
I would level via map clearing if you really don’t want to miss anything.
And they will be just as fun as the current ones. Long, no damage, random fears, losing boons, fun times! >_>

Toughness by itself won’t help all that much. If you take the glass-meta ultra damage, damage only traits, damage only skills, then a splash of toughness is less DPS and taking an extra half a hit.
You have to build in some sustain for toughness to really matter. Toughness effectively increases self-heal strength generally at a better ratio than healing power.
You want to try to do more than half the damage of a full glass build while having indefinite sustain. That should leave you satisfied with having some toughness.
And they will be just as fun as the current ones. Long, no damage, random fears, losing boons, fun times! >_>

Anti-glass instabilities…
I like the positivity in your post… however, I have to disagree. But I’ll preface with a question for you first.
What are you primarily playing? PVP/WVW/PVE and what weapons do you primarily swap out? I find revenant/herald overall very weak in PVP/VWV post nerfs, hammer especially. Hammer is still viable for PVE metas and the like where all you need to do is sit back and auto attack while working in a Hammer 2. The healing nerf to Glint shield has pretty much made shield completely useless for me, combined with the fact that sword 1 and 3 were nerfed hard so your dps with sword/shield is completely gutted. The annoying thing, is that Glint is still almost entirely a mandatory legend to have slotted, for the party buffs and perma swiftness. The only other legends worth using are Dwarf/Shiro, and even Shiro needs work to be viable.
I’m running sword/axe and Mace/sword (shield). Since I’m celi, I use Mace for more serious fights and sword to quick burst mooks.
I’m already 80 in mostly ascended, but I’m mainly doing map clear, dungeons, and some PvP right now. Normally I do a bit of everything.
I use demon stance unyielding anguish plus sword 2 to melt annoying mooks. The leech bolts add some good damage. In dungeons I’ve been running centaur/dwarf with my soilder necro mm buddy. We find the tankier specs easier for running dungeons in a straight forwarded way with random people. Centaur heals and projectile destruction is very useful in keeping sub 80s alive in combo with dwarf halving all damage, mass stab, and taunts.
In PvP, I’ve been gone for too long. I mashed buttons, killed a few people, but mainly got my teeth kicked in. It doesn’t help that my favorite spec was deemed OP and removed.
I’m waiting to unlock the elite spec as I slowly feel out the class, soloing group events at higher and higher levels.
Note: Shiro quickness gathers materials faster.
Valve is evil.
Adobe is evil.
Anet is not evil.
Paid modes was an amazing idea. Internet ruins everything
Flull disclosure, I’m running wupwup
But, it just has so much of everything. I love the energy management. I change up my rotations all the time depending on the situation. My specs flop around. I run different legends at different times. I swap my weapons depending on the enemy or challenge.
There is just a lot of good stuff here that is really compelling me to just keep playing and playing.
Nerfs and buffs come and go. Bugs crop up and disappear. The meat of a class stays the same, and I like the meat.
The tempt content idea exploded in their face and left large swaths of people disconnected with living story content even after they stopped it from being temp. This created a push for an expansion which turned out to just be living story content released in one big drop with some more fluid elements to tie the content together.
Content production is still retooling and the staff has high turn over. They probably want to go back to the living story model since the expac didn’t crush GEM revenue. Turns out, even if we say we don’t like microtransactions, we actually love them with our wallets.
Hopefully ANET never tries temp content again. I still have the barest clue what happened in LS1 since I was either taking a break or doing other stuff in the game at the time.
I’m running celi at the moment. I flip around specs and legends depending on the content.
I find Dwarf/Centaur to actually be pretty tanky. I still have to dodge a lot. Revs are more active tank/support than passive. These stances don’t work well solo since they are balanced around effecting the group.
People say that Druid is only an option, guess what?
You want to do fractals? Better slot Druid.
You want to do PVPs? Better slot Druid.
You want to do WVWs? Better slot Druid.
You want to do raids? Druid or GTFO.It’s still a strait up upgrade, and many people are not happy about it.
I even got laughed at for not willing to slot Druid. This is ridiculous.
The meta community is not always grounded in Facts.
You don’t need druid in either PvP or WvW, but you’ll run into the “friendliest community in MMOs” for pug raids.
revenant should be removed. /thread
I love my Rev, so no.
And they will be just as fun as the current ones. Long, no damage, random fears, losing boons, fun times! >_>

I think their pets should be able to dodge and the player could control the dodge somehow.
@Marthkus:
No, it isn’t the same. Asking in AC for a fullzerk is more casual friendly than asking for a condi-full ascended engi for raids. Players are getting more demanding obviously.SW had a better gold/hour rate than dungeons. Especially when pugging.
Your “elitist seeking the best gold/hour” were not running dungeons, they did SW.
Any reqs what so ever for AC was not “casual” friendly. Which “casual” seems to mean any non-(level 80 zerker elitist).
SW wasn’t better gold/hour if you knew what you were doing. This lead to lots of people filling up dungeon, enforcing meta, trying to “get-good” such that Dungeons were better gold/hour.
They made low level dungeons seem like something only for level 80s in full zerk gear playing the one build death and taxes said was best DPS.
So you want Anet to remove fractals and raids too?
I’m confident Anet is planing to do so.
Yeah! Cause Ascalon Catacombs requiring level 35 is the same thing as level 100 fractals requiring infused ascended gear.
Dungeons aren’t removed, they are just no longer for elitist seeking the best gold/hour.
IMHO: Season 1 temp content was a bad idea.
Changing the world slowly is cool like blowing up lions arch, but having a whole plot arch be temp was dumb. It was cool for players at the time, but terrible on the longterm, as anyone could have guessed.
Season 2 is just a way to prevent players from coming back by locking the interconnecting plot arch between Zhaitan and Mordremoth behind micro transactions. Still not as kitteneason 1 for long term game health.
I’ve been rocking celi
sword/axe, mace/sword(shield for herald)
Then I just play with the builds.
Demon Stance: Unyielding Anguish can kite any group of mobs to death.
Unyielding Anguish + sword 2 combos with the dark field and adds leeching bolts which will nearly burst down most solo mobs.
Anything immune to chill, you’ll just have to get-good and do different combos.
The necro class depends on Reaper, but that is because the rest of the class has problems. Reaper itself is a good example of an elite spec. It changes the class.
I also like Druid and Dragonhunter since they change the playstyle not just a strait buff. The straight buff is more of a numbers balance issue. Rangers also get HoT pets.
Tempest, Daredevil, Herald, Berserker, chronomancer just add depth and mechanics to the class. They are mandatory.
Scrapper is inbetween as the functional gyro isn’t that important but does mean Scrappers have more depth than non-scrappers.
people run the same 3 fast fractals over and over making it extremely repetitive and boring.
Anet can’t help how bored people like to be.
Have you considered not running the same 3 fractals? Oh wait no that’s ridiculous. Have to grind content as fast as possible. Fast > Fun
ANET probably has to address this issue before adding new fractals no one will bother playing. Soon you’ll be attuned to the first fractal you roll and HAVE to do it, or every reroll increases the difficulty level without increasing rewards.
