You didn’t read Scarlet’s short story on the website I presume.
But yes, ANet does need a more coherent story, and needs to tie in each chapter together in a better way..

Shouldn’t have to read someone’s story on the website, should be better implemented in the game.

For example i get the gist of Destiny’s Edge, who all those characters are, and why their guild fell apart and then got back together.

All I know about Scarlet (and care to know at this point) is that she’s a Sylvari and she goes lol!

Yes been tired of it, LS is over rated.

I am surprised at how many players enjoy getting a monotonous to-do list every two weeks, a list that is hidden in a weak story. To each their own I suppose.

Before anyone jumps in with their “you don’t have to do the new content” rigamarole it’s not that simple. LS has become that annoying guy at school/work/a party that you try to avoid but sometimes you just can’t.

It would be tolerable if it was a monthly occurrence but every two weeks amounts to spam.

I really enjoyed the September break, sure we had SAB and Teq but those had nothing to do with LS and those were actually fun.

Nope, sorry you’re reading too much into it. The Mad King is just a gag, a fun diversion and a good one. Not to be taken seriously and not to be really considered part any main story for GW, yet oddly enough part of the lore. He’s just there, waiting biding his time for Halloween to arrive so he can play then he goes away until next year.

Now thats just leave the slower people or older people with slower reaction.
The dungeons should be for everybody to win.
Make it short, if its ppl that keep fail at boss, make it easier every try so we can win.
Been fight a boss for 3 hours and makes people give up and makes them never to do it anymore.

Yes, because we all know, nobody likes challenges. We should just complain until it’ so easy that my 6 year old brother can do it.

Unfortunately that is not what dungeons are for, if they are too hard then people need to play in open world PVE. The game has something for everyone, dungeons are for people who fall asleep while trying to do map completions and heart quests.

People can actually play the dungeon’s story mode, it’s more tame and designed for beginners so they can enjoy them. Explorable modes are harder and have no real bearing on any story. They are there to challenge, sorry if you didn’t make the cut but there are no participation trophies here. It is simply do or do not.

You wish, I’m too deeply invested in the game with friends and guildies, because at one point we didn’t get an invasive to do list every two weeks. We (as in my circle not the whole community) all agree that LS and it’s terrible characters are like that annoying guy at work and we try to avoid them but sometimes you just can’t.

Fortunately Scarlet’s days are numbered and when this “arch of a story” is done I’ll think of you while I grind away her health pool one last time. If only I hadn’t have thrown away that dull blade I got when I started the game.

It really boils down to being in the wrong neighborhood. There’s plenty of care bear heart quests and zerg trains for the casualties in open world PVE and LS pretty much caters to them.

Having LS as the sole vehicle for new “content” is probably not a good idea because suddenly the casualties find themselves on the doorstep of a dungeon and the river of tears begins to flow. Most of them just want to play and have fun, not improve and challenge their gameplay. It could never be their fault that the dungeon is too hard … ever.

And certainly there’s not a large base of players that are actually looking for a more challenging experience because you know why not? We certainly aren’t in it for the rewards. Well I’m not in that i don’t expect a dungeon to dole out 10g upon completion like some of them have posted.

I think they need a casual dungeon with a single room and a chest that spawns every 15 min so they can sit around and chat, roleplay … what ever they find fun. As long as they understand that some of us like it rough and stay away from my dungeons!

Because any mechanic that doesn’t involve hitting everything you can as hard as you can is “frustrating” and “unfun” amirite?

Despite the fact that such mechanics require far more coordination and team effort than the fights people complain about being “boring”

I’ll go ahead and say it

Dungeons should never be designed around easy PUGs. PUGs should step up to the dungeon, the dungeon shouldn’t lower itself to a PUG-waltz.

In GW1 pretty much the whole game was a series of dungeons (instanced encounters with mechanics that you needed to know, built for small groups of players) and people figured out how to PUG stuff, even hard mode stuff, without that stuff being made easier.

This is not GW1 be a long shot, but the sentiment that hard content should exist, that content should only ever gate people out of it by virtue of player skill is still very much alive. You don’t need to grind gear to experience anything the game has to offer (though if you like grinding gear, fractals have several additional difficulty levels) and you’re never going to need to farm raid 1 to try raid 2 and so on.

All that stands between your group and completing anything in the entire game is your group… so why shouldn’t those actions be a decent challenge?

This is what happens when a whole generation is brought up with participation trophies and the concept of no losers. Defeat builds character. The first step is to accept it with grace.

This. Rather bad planning to have a hard dungeon be featured as the new thing to do for people who may not even be into dungeons.

I want them to keep making dungeons but I’d rather they keep the LS aspect out I don’t like Scarlet in my dungeons really. Unfortunately LS is the vehicle they chose to introduce new … content. So i was just a dungeon guy minding my own business when this happened.

I think they did a good job with the dungeon none the less.

How about you change your tactics, instead of brute forcing it? Equip a hammer, mace, shield, stomp, kick,… and just make the way for oozes.

Oozes are immune to CC, elementals are not, they have plenty of HP to toss around, and once you kick them far enough from ooze they will attack players instead of oozes.

Really, adept to the fight, use your wide variety of skills and weapons.

God, people playing gw2 really forgot everything about how dungeons work…

This thread is full of people with the usual mindset of “I completed it, therefore it is easy”. Get of your high horses please and use common sense. I can complete some content and still say it was harder than it should be for what it is and where it is. The definitions of “easy” and “hard” are blurry but to judge them, you need to ask yourself a bit more questions than only a simple “Can I do it?”.

The fact is (and yes, I dare to say that this is a fact) close to nobody will run this place in a while. It gives you what, double the rewards of CoF1? And it takes x10 times more to complete (or more if you keep wiping). Honestly, for it to be worthy, the end chest should give like 10 gold at this point.

I dare to say that vast majority of regular forum posters are “nerds” (like myself) who also tend to have a bit higher in-game experience (and thus, the so called “skill”). They project their standards onto the entire game community. Which is wrong. I dare you, I double dare you. Wait a few weeks and then try to PUG this new path through LFG tool every day. Have fun (and dont forget to buy some anger management pills before you start)!

Yes because there’s no one out there that plays harder content and doesn’t want everything in the game to be care bears and heart quests. Difficulty is relative, but there’s plenty of low difficulty options out there. Dungeons by nature are supposed to be difficult so saying a dungeon is too hard is like saying other parts of the game are too easy. People are just in the wrong neighborhood.

Dungeons are not exclusive, they do not gate players in any way other than their level and even then if you’re lower than the level requirement you can still get in. It’s just the recommended level. Dungeons do not judge they just are there waiting for players to enter them. Dungeons do not reward either, not really you get some gold and the occasional exotic or gold drop. If you become good enough to hit dungeon paths and complete them quickly you can see some profit but there are faster ways to make gold. Dungeons simply challenge that’s all they do. If you find dungeons are too hard time and time again the group you are in fails, you die often, or even get kicked especially if you get kicked then you need to look inward and ask yourself what am I doing wrong? How can I beat this path, am I running build that carries my weight or are other people carrying me? Dungeons test you.

When dungeons can be easily completed by everyone that’s when I quit GW2.

This is not a difficult dungeon if you are the kind of player that likes dungeons and has a solid group of friends or a guild to run it with.

Wow thank you for speaking out. Not all of us have a good solid groups.

Just telling it like it is, dungeons are not for casualties.

But if you want to better yourself in the dungeon area of the game there are plenty of dungeon guilds out there that can show you the ropes. By solid group I didn’t mean a group of “pro” dungeon runners that just sounds so silly when i write it. I mean people that work together and are dependable.

Nope it’s her Hologram, how typically boring, and predictable. I’m waiting for a time when we “kill” her and find out later it was just a hologram or a clockwork knight ZZZzzz awesome writing right there.

What would have been a pleasant surprise and not predictable would be that she would be the end boss of the dungeon and then that would be the end of her. They wrote themselves into a hole there, she would either flee as usual, die, or not be there at all.

The dungeon was fun they just need to make the cutscenes skippable because I’m done trying to follow the Story part of the LS.

If Scarlet would have been advertised as a main antagonist for GW2 from the start I probably wouldn’t have bought the game or played it very much if at all now.

It is a total failure of design that this closure of the instance is even possible. It has angered players on every occasion it has ever happened and it will continue to anger players until it is fixed. It should be fixed by now. It will be inevitably be fixed in the future. It is just an embarrassment to the game while it continues.

It should have been fixed a long time ago but they have different priorities like making sure people come back to check out the new stuff in the gem shop every two weeks.

Yes that was a jab at the biweekly, sub-par content spam produced for LS.

I hate Anet’s philosophy to make encounters frustrating and annoying instead of difficult. Why can’t we have difficult and fun instead of frustrating and not fun?

I’m just curious as to what OP means here. Usually if something is difficult it can lead to frustration if you let it get the better of you emotionally.

Anet tried something different and it seems that the difficulty is relative, some find it quick and easy others say it’s hard and daunting, I lean more in the way if it not being that hard to do.

It’s just new and different but there’s probably videos on youtube that can show you how to do it quickly.

Sometimes i think people just want to enter a dungeon and wait for a chest full of rares to spawn every 30 min.

Just kill Scarlet and be done with it please.

Yeah why isn’t he in the LS now? I mean it’s not like he has anything better to do now that you did his Wild Hunt for him. He wasn’t a bad character, much better than what we have now. It was just how he was used in the game/plot that wasn’t very likeable at least that’s how i see it.

Finally got a chance to play the path yesterday for myself although it was lengthily for our first attempt we finished it, the path requires some effort in the areas of cooperation and communication. Because of that I can see why some call the path difficult.

I call it a good dungeon/path. Took my group a little longer than I anticipated to complete for our first run but with a couple more runs it we could finish it relatively quick.

This is not a difficult dungeon if you are the kind of player that likes dungeons and has a solid group of friends or a guild to run it with. I personally would not PUG this dungeon, but that’s because I rarely PUG any of them in the first place.

I thought of a check list

Do not run this path if …

you do not run any dungeons
you spend more than an hour on any path in CoF or the other two TA paths
you think the new AC (or just AC now) is hard
the thought of doing Arha scares you
You usually play solo

What is required of this dungeon

communication and cooperation, this is a team effort
an understanding of your profession and the ability to adapt your profession to new situations quickly

Running around 3 different maps to find 10 different randomly placed scales/teeth to press the F key at is fun? So you must have liked the Pinatas, effigies, balloons, keepsakes, and beacons hunts. your point is invalid because youre purposefully ignoring major pieces of content like the tequatl fight and the new dungeon path in a desperate attempt to convince others that the new updates have been all boring fluff.

I haven’t tried the new dungeon but I am optimistic about it
I liked the wallet, the LFG tool, and other mini games such as South Sun Survival

What I don’t like is the same thing every two weeks with a fresh coat of paint being passed off as new content. I choose quality over quantity any day.

Quite right, it’s much easier to make an item that lets you salvage for copper, unbreakable farming tools, and boom boxes that play 8-bit music than it would be to produce a new setting, set of professions, and new skills/traits/weapons for existing professions. Heck it even took longer to type out.

I understand that an expansion into Cantha would take a lot of effort and time to make i don’t expect it to happen for anytime soon. i’m not even bored with GW2 vanilla for that matter i’m just expressing interest at any given opportunity for a trip to Cantha or Elonia.

If they want to introduce through LS that’s great i don’t mind that either, but the stuff they are doing with it now is just … meh.

If this would have been a promise at the beginning of GW2, that we would receive a two week update spam, with press F scavenger hunts, zerg trains, and RNG I would have probably not picked up the game or quit after a couple of months of play due to this pointless saturation of weak content just to keep people coming back and checking the gem shop. However there was that pleasant lull from launch until they really cranked up content spam so I became fairly invested in the game around that time.

The game needs more work and polish, we just got a nice wallet system not that long ago and now we have a LFG tool that’s in beta.

Put that LFG research on hold we must make sure everyone hasn’t forgotten what’s-her-face and the herpblades guys!

… September was so nice.

Don’t get wrong i like some of the stuff we get, I really can’t wait to try out the new dungeon path today. I’m not a fan of how it was executed but hey it’s still something new and permanent.

But cool it on the updates please, it’s like going to a Buffet it’s just all you can eat mediocre food.

You know when I heard about the new TA path, the diminished token returns seems to suddenly make sense.

Holy kitten! I thought. They are going to just add new paths to the existing dungeons, hell this won’t be so bad after all! We will have more paths and therefore more opportunity to get full rewards for tokens. Even if we never get new permanent dungeons we could always get more paths for current ones. This seems like a decent middle ground to be on. But boy was I wrong, they answered alright.

Why do they need to remove a path? Just add a new path and everyone would be happy.

Because that would make sense, and until today I think that’s what most people expected would happen. TA would go from 3 level 55 paths to 3 level 55 paths and one level 80.

This also makes wonder if the level 80 path will buff players under 80 to level 80. I haven’t had a chance to watch the video yet.

Wow are they really getting rid of a path in a dungeon to put in a new one? Why? Is it criminal to have more than 3 paths in a dungeon? Arah might get jealous?

And here I got my hopes up that the idea of adding new paths to existing dungeons would be just as good as adding all new dungeons, but they surprised me by finding a way to screw that up.

I’ve done TA F/U it’s not that big of a deal, leave it alone

You guys realize that killing Scarlet means the developers will just come up with an equally unbelievable and boring villain to replace her, don’t you? The Living Story will go on, and it’s going to need an antagonist. So we might – and I hate to say this, because I think she’s a terribly developed character – be better off with the cardboard cutout we know than the cardboard cutout we don’t.

Nah I’ll roll those dice. I want them to try harder.

The current villain will become old news at some point and we can all fondly forget or remember her as we like. To me she’s just a thin personality with stack of numbers I have to deplete to get the thing, what ever that is supposed to be. What she represents is the personification of the Living Story most of which is a quick fleeting distraction that quickly turns into boring, repetitive, mundane tasks. The rewards we get for doing that are pretty much the same.

Except for the people who dedicate resources to creating weapon skins. Suddenly they have to work on dye channels and all that stuff to make weapons dyeable. It’s more work to have weapons that can be dyed and that’s why they didn’t repeat that feature from GW1 (even in GW1 you couldn’t dye particle effects anyway).

I don’t see how this would be any more difficult than changing the color on a set of armor the only difference is particle effects. They could go two routes, one being that you can only dye the weapon base, and not the effects this would be pretty nice in itself.

I suspect that dyeing particle effects would require more resources which is why this wasn’t done in GW1, but they have already taken steps to tone down the flashy effects in battle for GW2 and computer processing power has come a long way since GW1 so to me this seems doable.

I am no programmer by any means but it just seems odd that you can dye just about everything else on your character but the back piece and the weapons. I suppose it could be just too hard to do.

It’s also strange that weapons (and I believe back pieces) aren’t affected by culling when a character loads the base model place holder. You would think they would just load base weapon models too.

But now I am getting off topic. There are a lot of Blue weapons out there like OP is saying, thematic elements aside I agree that they could pick some different colors for the weapons and their particle effects. Red for example is a popular color and you can only get red from SE or COE token rewards.

For me nothing’s going to top my Swanky Fractal Capacitor i’ve been working on but eh they can try, so far the back items have been kind of ho-hum. But then i usually have more practical tastes, Arrow Quivers are nice, other sheaths such as a GS would be nice but then then I would start to wonder why that doesn’t just come as a default with GS you have.

As long as they keep them coming maybe they will eventually come up with one I would deem worthy for one of my heroes or at least appropriate.

In keeping it practical how about a spiffy dyeable cape or scarf? Flowing red garments are the bomb.

Hey guys I was getting ready to post some info for you, but saw this thread and thought it would be the most fitting place. I’ve been reading through the threads so far and wanted to write on a few points brought up.

Our team’s put a great deal of effort into getting this new dungeon path right, so that it is both challenging and fun. We’re comprised of folks that worked on the Aetherblade Retreat, as well as myself from Molten Facility, so we’ve been putting everything we’ve learned from the past months’ development into what we think is a pretty exciting experience.

There’s a whole lot to do in this dungeon, even after the final boss is downed. Expect some nods to the existing TA paths, as well as a few to previous Living World dungeons. You’ve probably already seen some in the screenshots & trailer released so far.

Our hope is that once you get in there, you’ll see why this is the primary thing we’ve been working on. That said, Halloween is just around the corner, and you won’t be waiting too long after Twilight Assault to see what we’ve got in store for you with this year’s Mad King shindig.

Just want to say that I liked the Molten Facility and the AetherBlade Retreat and I am happy to see that a new permanent path will be added to an existing dungeon they REALLY need some love. Keep up the awesome work.

I hate to say this, but the living story is really not much of a story at all. The plot is a twisted patchwork mess. The characters are cardboard cut-outs with no discernible life, depth or dimension. Honestly, I can’t even recall what has happened so far because it really is not interesting enough to even register in my brain. I mean hell, we had a freaking election and it takes a second to even recall Elen’s name. This is such a beautiful game with such a vast well of existing history and lore but it’s just not being utilized. I feel bad saying this because i know that ANET works really hard to bring us consistent and fun content. And so far they definitely have. Updates have brought some cool features but the “story” is really non-existent and extremely disappointing.
That being said, Mad King is coming and im super excited about that! Best lore and Villian in the game if you ask me. Can’t wait to see what tricks he has up his sleeve this year.

Gotta agree with you here, for all it’s worth very little memorable plot has been produced with LS. If i happen to sit out for a couple of weeks on GW to go pursue a different game/hobby then come back to it what ever I missed in that two week period is lost and has left little to no impact on the game that would make me feel like I need to go back and read up on what I missed. I am strictly talking story not content left after the story like Teq and this new permanent dungeon path. These two examples however are very recent before that there’s not a lot in the way of leave behinds.

It’s the same formula over and over, new back item, new weapon skins, and something happened for two weeks to a month that will all disappear with the next patch. I can appreciate the skins and back items because they may actually produce one that I’ll want to pick up.

So what ever they are up to seems very patchy and bland, and very frequent. Here’s hoping they pull it all together but I hope it’s not a defeatable cookie cutter laughy villain at the center of it all.

All of the villains listed i like better because they die from you killing them unlike some special someone who doesn’t when their time is up.

To be fair you could say that Scarlet is the best villain in GW2 and actually be correct because there’s nothing else really in the way competition to compare her to. The writer, and I am not giving plurals because i’m convinced it’s just one person, has spent more time working on Scarlet than any other villain. For example I don’t even know who Canach is because I wasn’t playing GW2 at the time when he appeared in LS for two WHOLE weeks never to be heard from again. Am I going to back and read up on him? No. Why? Well look at the impact he left.

Long time GW players are forced to pull up baddies from GW1 because well …. just look at the list it speaks volumes.

So yes OP is technically correct.

Just a thought how have we not managed to kill off the entire Aether Blade and Molten Alliance population? Are they breeding in a dark room?

Some days I wonder about that, but I think we just have to accept that as MMO mechanics. There simply has to be lots of enemies to fight, and players just have to try to suspend disbelief when it comes to the story.

That said. You could just imagine that the Aetherblades are never truly killed. Like players, they just waypoint back somewhere safe.

lol that actually makes sense…. unfortunately that means we are doomed to a never ending cycle >.<
