I probably was too sarcastic for you to understand.

Your claim, from my understanding, is that the only reason why they don’t have weapon dyes is to keep people playing the game in order to chase that desired colored weapon. After all, if you could easily dye a weapon, that won’t keep you around long, right?

You may have logic in that but it’s a lame argument, not a sound one. It also doesn’t help that you’re taking a seemingly innocent topic regarding dyeable weapons and turn it into some massive conspiracy theory that Anet is holding back on such a feature in order to milk customers.

And my examples shown above just show how absurd and simple-minded your conspiracy theory is. Why do we stop at weapon dyes? Why not make some conspiracy theory up for weapons, class/professions and gear tiers?

Heck, how about I make up this conspiracy theory – the only reason why we are getting WvW leagues is so Anet can make a ton of money on server transfers! Heck I can come up with more.

Me and sarcasm go way back so don’t bother. As you can see I’m shooting holes in your argument and staying on task so now you lean on the sarcasm crutch when trying to avert the dialogue at hand by throwing out examples that didn’t work.

You are taking my original statement and trying to inflate it out of proportion by calling it a conspiracy theory for what? You asked me for my reasoning behind that and I gave it to you now you’re calling it lame. It’s not like I would have said something to change your already made up mind but that’s not the point you asked and I answered just what did you expect a startling revelation?

I backed up what I said with logic which you agreed it was. But if you think that they are making a game just for fun and not for profit then that’s your choice, they have to pay the bills and since they aren’t charging you a monthly fee this the answer they came up with. I played GW1 for a while and I know you could dye weapons in that game like most other people, and we want a reasonable explanation as to why that is not an option in GW2 when it should be. Money is my answer to that question.

Well why should we stop there with our reasoning!

Why don’t we point out that there are 80 levels in the game. I guess that means Anet wants to keep us leveling for such a long time that they want us to stay playing around. Why not 40? Or 20 like in GW1? Oh it’s because Anet wants us to play forever..Shame on them.

Or how about the fact we have 5 races and 8 professions? I guess Anet wants us to learn and play all of them so that we can keep playing forever and ever. Why not just have 1 class Anet? and 1 race? Oh it’s because they want us to play forever. Shame on them.

Or how about introducing all these tiers of gear? Basic, fine, masterwork, all the way to legendary! Why don’t they just give everyone basic gear! After all it’s easy and cheap to acquire! Oh I know why..it’s because they want us to keep leveling and improving gear to make us stay around longer. Shame on Anet, they are bad and they should feel bad?!

You asked for an explanation I gave you one, not my problem if you don’t like what you’re reading because you think your opinion is better. You asked me for my logic behind it and I gave a sound argument good for you that you can come up with other reasons and try to derail the topic at hand.

Character levels are just numbers it doesn’t matter if you cap at 20, 80 or 100. Being level 80 in this game is the standard they decided to stick with. Anyone who plays an MMO knows that the max level is where most of the content is completed. Time spent reaching max level varies from game to game and most RPGs have a concept of leveling up.

5 races and 8 professions is variety, if you don’t understand that concept in an RPG I can’t help you. Not everything they are doing is out to make money they have to build a game first. But i find it interesting how a new GW2 account only gives you 5 character slots meaning if you wanted to try all 8 professions guess what you gotta spend money or delete a character either way you’re spending time/money. Time wasted on a deleted character or money on a new slot.

The only gear that matters is level exotic/ascended 80 because that’s the level you cap at, everything else is stepping stones, again this is more variety and just basic loot drops you can sell for in game money. I fail to see what this has to do with the argument this is basic RPG gears only slightly expanded with weapon quality.

Yep. This is why we can’t color our weapons, folks. So they can pull crap like this and the different colors on the Ascended weapons.

Personally, I kind of like some of the Nightmare weapon skins. But bright blue glow? That’s…missing the point entirely. You don’t make them more frightening by adding a built-in nightlight!

Please, masta, explain how anet can make real $ on an item that can only be acquired by running the dungeon.

Certainly, if we can dye weapons like we should be able to then people wouldn’t be chasing that carrot for a different colored skin. They’d have to come up with something else for us to do. This is update is just a small start. Ideally in any free to play MMO the objective of the owners of the game is to keep you playing for as long as possible by chasing many aforementioned carrots because they know the longer people play the more likely they are going to crack open that wallet for something else if not for some skin color variant. So maybe you can’t buy these weapons with gems that’s not the point the point is they want to keep you playing so you’ll keep coming back and checking out that gem store.

Furthermore as with the unique colors found in crafted ascended weapons let’s say you like zerker stats but think that white sword with healing stats looks pretty sweet, the only way to get what you want is with a white transmute stone. You might get lucky and get one from a BL chest if you find a key but how often does that happen?

If we could dye weapons we wouldn’t need gems.

But villains are supposed to win. Especially in a long story arcs like anet is trying to do with the living story. It helps build the villain as an actual threat. Anet have done a poor job building the villains in the living story.

Does anet expect me to care about Scarlet after I beat her in the playhouse and every other encounter? Same with the aetherized pirates and molten alliance. Sure they did some evil things, they killed like 1 or 2 people, but it never felt like they left any impact.

Just a thought how have we not managed to kill off the entire Aether Blade and Molten Alliance population? Are they breeding in a dark room?

Got trolled by an auto attack staff guardian the first time i used the LFG Tool, i loled.

I’ll still use it though it’s not a bad system it just involves people and there’s nothing you can do about that other than expect the occasional failure to come along.

I have mixed feels, I’m happy to see dungeons getting some attention, but sad to see that the vehicle used is is Scarlet. Didn’t she die or am I asking for too much?

Time to fire the 15 year old that’s writing LS plot they have ran out of ideas.

Chances are this event will not revert back to the old version so give it some time and do it later when things have calmed down a bit. It’s just like having a new restaurant in a small town stupidly crowded for a month then you can actually walk in and enjoy it.

It will be highly unlikely I will bother with it until after a couple of days pass, that is unless i can get myself into a less crowded overflow server.

Completely disagree with OP, we have had too much content as of late. With this update they are actually giving us a LFG tool which is a quality of game update and not just something to do for two weeks until the the next thing happens.

I agree, the biggest problem with Guild War is there are very limited PvE stuffs to do after 80. Dungeons and fractals are fun but simply not enough. There should be several big and difficult areas like Orr ( with a lot more group events and discovery ) for level 80 character with deadly dungeons at the deep end of each area, that only good groups can reach (not just a big zerg mob ) and great groups can finish.

That would be great but the current model is more profitable.

I would like to see the Mad King unleash his army and destroy every last Aetherblade and also the machine that spawns them because how else can there be so many?

Then for him to summon forth a cauldron of power and turn Scarlet Briar into a salad with pumpkin themed salad dressing and devour her thus putting an end to the LS once and for all.

If Anet puts the Aetherblades in one more LS update it will prove to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person writing the LS plot is some 14 year old fanfic author.

I am tired of looking at them every other week, I’m tired of getting slammed with weak content, someone else called it fluff and i think that’s actually more fitting.

I already ranted about this in another topic so i won’t go in depth here, LS needs to stop or at least slow down to a monthly schedule. The devs need to be allowed to fix existing content and make quality of game improvements. I am pretty sure we would already have that LFG tool if they hadn’t have been working on the next several installments of LS.

Yeah I have been waiting for LS content to stop, at least slow the kitten down. You can have too much new content, updates and zerg fests. Most of my guildies and friends are either too busy with LS like OP suggested or burned out and not logging in, and I’m just sitting here doing WvW by myself because they haven’t figured out how to insert LS into WvW yet. I miss running dungeons/fractals, I see things that are broken and need to be fixed or polished up.

Nope gotta put out that new content every two weeks before gamers get bored and start to complain about not having anything to do because NC Soft needs more money.

I want quality in my game, I’ve had enough quantity. What exactly am I talking about? Pretty much every LS that was added between SAB 1 and SAB 2 was a grind fest in one form or another, my inventory got loaded down with boxes full of garbage there was supposed to be tickets in there but eh I made more money selling them.

There were a few exceptions, the account wallet we needed that good job definitely quality there, the Queens Gauntlet good stuff something different made you think, SS Survival/Aspect Arena fun also Sanctum Sprint , needs to be expanded and lastly no confirmation when I want to salvage green items this needed to happen.

Notice how two of the things I mentioned were interface improvements? More like this please Anet that’s a quality of game update.

The rest were playable content yes but it was PVE boss combat that required you to think a little while challenging you as a player and the other was pvp arena style combat. Also seeing something similar to Candidate Trials where you don’t have to exclusively kill goofy looking steam punk pirates would be a nice way to test your party out in a dynamic and endurance style combat.

There were a couple of dungeons that had potential but that last one, the fun house that was NOT a dungeon that was a closed instance of PVE mistakenly labeled as a dungeon.

The rest of it has been mindlessly following zergs and attacking the big thing, killing those goofy looking steam punk pirates repeatedly, finding things to stand next to and press the F key, and opening boxes full of crap.

I would really appreciate it if after SAB 2 there would be no LS updates and then we can have our Holiday Events as usual. But if LS events have to happen how about lowering the frequency to say once a month?

I don’t hate SAB in fact I think it’s pretty nice, what i don’t like is getting the same thing repackaged over and over and have it passed off as new content every two weeks.

What OP and many others myself included are saying is that this spam of weak content updates is taking away from the quality of the game because there is too much focus placed on two week LS updates and not enough on actually improving the game itself.

The last time we actually got a quality update was the account wallet and that was nearly a month ago before that I couldn’t tell you. There are so many areas for improvement but apparently it’s just easier to throw a month long zerg fest because a Sylvari had a bad day. Meanwhile you can’t even do higher level PVE group events because no one is around to assist in Cursed shore, The Straits, or Malchor’s Leap.

I am actually on the same boat with OP as well I sort ranted and got off track in my previous post. Simply put it seems that the preferred method is to give us new mediocre things to do every other week and only slightly improve the quality of the game occasionally.

I don’t mind SAB because it basically has nothing to do with anything it’s just for fun. But I could have done without every Living Story arch that’s been created since the first time SAB came around.

I’m tired of festivals, zerging in PVE and opening various boxes full of garbage it’s cluttering up my inventory. Also they need to dumb down the group events in MR because no one is around to do them anymore. Gotta jump on the zerg train and stop what’s-her-face from being super generic.

Some of the mini games were nice such as Aspect Arena, South Sun Survival, and the Queens Gauntlet but you could put those in the game without the LS, chase-the-carrot for achievements and weapon skins drivel. It’s the same thing every two weeks with a different coat of paint slapped onto it. Doesn’t Tyria deserve better? Don’t the heroes of Tyria deserve better? I’m actually starting to miss o’l Trahearne and that says a lot.

I always find ways to spend all of my tokens I get but I know what you mean. Sometimes I’ll have enough to fully equip an alt so i figure it’s time to go shopping.

Gold will be the new green, and orange will be the new gold no matter how you look at it.

Also Green should stop prompting me with a confirmation when I want to salvage it, you aren’t that important Green get over it.

Well we are going to get ascended weapons and eventually armor, so what will become of the exotic gear you can earn in dungeons? Upgrades? Completely new weapons and gear or nothing at all? Will we be running dungeons just get some kind of deranged satisfaction? You people know who you are and it takes one to know one.

Will they pull a fractal and give us one super shiny once a day token because of time gating?

I’d be ok with forking over more tokens for better gear because I’m too lazy to craft honestly.

What ever the case when running a dungeon I always have a gear goal in mind but why do all that for shoddy exotics when you can have shiny ascended instead?

Wont happen for now. Plus it needs to be time gated like the crafting will be. Otherwise you could run the dungeon over and over in a day and get the gear.
Do I agree with it, no, but unfortunetly that is the way they are making it. I would love to use all my Karma to get it.

Well they have severely reduced the amount of tokens players can earn in a days worth of runs since you can no longer get full credit for swapping to alts so in a way this does create time gating as well.

And yeah i have millions of karma and don’t know what to do with it.

That would make sense. I ran dungeons both for skins and stats. Now I’m done equipping my characters and I don’t run dungeons anymore, but I would, if there were new ascended equipment to be bought with tokens.

It would be awesome if we got ascended weapons with new skins for each dungeon. They would cost more tokens than the exotic ones, of course. Later on, when we get the ascended armor, they could add ascended armor sets with new skins to the dungeon vendors. More foliage skins (TA) would be highly appreciated by people with sylvari characters, like me.

Yeah dungeons are fun too, but when I run them i have a goal in mind. Why do all that work though for gear that’s not top tier?

I’d be okay with shelling out more tokens for ascended dungeon gear, though it would mean people would have to regrind for the same appearance in gear with better stats, so they should also look different too.

Let’s try logic.

If Anet didn’t want players to skip they would have gated each area and the only way to open the gate would be to clear the zone of mobs. This is an overly simplified explanation but it serves the purpose of saying they don’t FORCE players to kill everything in the dungeon to complete it but they could if they wanted to design it that way.

I thought stacking on Alpha was basically what the game designers wanted you to figure out when it came to beating it.

If everyone spreads out and ranges you tend to get punished because the farther away you are the more damage it seems to do. Look at it’s AOE ring patters they are smaller the closer you are to Alpha.

All they would have to do is give it a skill to bomb everyone in a 240 radius to stop the stacking but they didn’t.

I am talking about Alpha in P1 its attacks seem different in P2

I never understood the whole issue with to skip or not to skip. If you want to wade through the extra mobs they are there for you to kill, but if you only want to take out the boss and move on then there is usually a way for you to do that. It’s the best way, you have the option to do either. I prefer efficiency myself. Sometimes it’s better to exterminate and sometimes a sprint through a bunch of mobs that don’t give a decent drop is ideal. The best thing to do is to form a guild of like minded individuals and play with them. I’ve read these forums for quite a while and there are plenty of both kinds of players.

As far as the original question dungeons are fine, I’d like for them to fix some of the bugs more so than anything else. Did they ever fix the nodes in the boss fight in AC P2 for example? It’s been a while since I ran AC I farmed all the tokens I need from there a while back. Sometimes when we lured it near one of the nodes it would not debuff the boss so we could attack it.

I’d like to see more dungeons and more fractals of varying degree in difficulty. I liked some of the newer living story dungeons that required you to have brain activity such as dodging the cannon fire in the Aetherblade dungeon, or the weapon testing grounds in the Molten Facility. I believe I have mastered the ability of, or at least have a great understanding of how to maul something to death while I monitor my Health Pool, dodges, and assist my allies.

One last note, dungeons are supposed to be challenging, especially fractals, it’s not a private instance of PVE. It’s important to understand that before they are played. They also come in different levels of difficulty COF for example is cake compared to other dungeons such as Arah so there should be something for everyone.

But if you really want that Dungeon Master title you’re gonna have to put in some work for it.

Shallow chase the zerg playable content coupled with a one dimensional mary-sue like crazy villain with lore busting steam punk goons is what you get when you expect new content every 2 weeks. Rushed ideas passed off as stories because some people get bored too easily is what’s happening here. Never mind the cleverly disguised incentives to spend money on keys or slightly better coffers/boxes to get your new monthly weapon skin allotment because that’s all been neatly packaged together in a “look this way!” attempt rather than focusing on fixing up the dungeons and finalizing each of the professions as the 1 year anniversary of the game creeps up on us.

And we call that Living Story. It’s filler, the more you give the more they want.

At least the account wallet was nice.

Need more info, but I’ll sum up; you’d want to pick your character that can deal with conditions the most effectively and good direct damage would be more important though you cannot crit the tree boss. Just make sure your wep set up includes a ranged weapon equipped at all times until you know the terrain well enough to alternate.

If you haven’t done it yet i would say watch some youtube vids on how players deal with the Nightmare Vines battle as you will be fighting them regardless of which path you take. That way you’ll have an idea on what to expect as this part does take some coordination.

Knowing when to run or skip will also significantly reduce the time you spend in the dungeon if that’s something you’re interested in

I do just as much damage with Torch 5 as i do with Whirling Wrath on the GS. Torch 5’s purpose is to augment your main hand weapon which doesn’t have as much in the way of AOE.

Torch 5 doesn’t give burning but removes conditions on allies it passes over. It basically has piercing and can hit targets in a line and the cone in front of the caster is much wider than the actual flames. You can actually move around while casting 5 so you can sweep an area tag multiple mobs in events fairly easy.

Torch 4 causes burning to foes you are next to but when you press it again and launch the fire it has 1200 range and hits hard and burns. This is great for pulling or burst damage. I use it almost exclusively like this.

Radiance 7 is the only trait that augments the torch, but it also counts for all out going burning which is the main source of condition damage that guardians have. This is great if you pair it with Zeal II. If you’re working on a burning/condi build then I would consider this however you’d be giving up Radiance X which is powerful blades for sword. Either way you choose to go Spending 30 points in Radiance for right hand strength XI, will help you out in the damage department.

Sword and torch is a good combo, but so is sword and focus because of blind stacking and Vulnerability stacking using Radiance 6. Also focus 5 is a great burst if the 3 blocks are not used up. Paring Sword and torch with say scepter or mace and focus is a way to get use out of both.

Lastly most of your damage in a sword and what ever build will be coming from your sword’s auto attack so that’s what you mostly need to focus on. The torch in this case is your AOE option if you don’t want to run staff, hammer or GS, but it is a very good option.

It’s funny but that was something that was planned by the developers before the game went into beta play, that dyes would be account wide but then it was retracted.

The strategy is to group up the ones in the middle and left and kill them. A vet will spawn by the panel afterwards which you leave alone and no more will spawn. You get out of combat to let the outside people revive if need be and send 2 in the room to the switches to let the other 2 in I just cut them reviving and running through to save some time on the video. From there 2 kite the mobs while the other does the panel.

My group and I have issues with the Dredge Control Panel event show in the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pury3dyGX20

I studied it carefully, and i liked the approach i plan to incorporate what you’re doing but my question is this around the 1:33 mark in the vid two of the downed party members were revived and the dredge numbers seemed a bit thinned out. Was that a time lapse at that point? Do the dredge have a limited number of spawns?

When summer ends and people go back to school they may understand the whole, jobs and families thing, not having enough time to get stuff done may become more clear. I’m all for new content but I have completely lost interest in new content every two weeks it’s lackluster on it’s best day. I ignored anything story related and dabbled in the new arena games when i had a few minutes. Those were great but I don’t have time to go chasing the RNG and achievement carrots doled out every two weeks. I’d like to earn, well really more like obtain some of this stuff through dumb luck, but why bother when it’s gone in two weeks.

If i spent all my time doing new content I’d never have time to run dungeons or do some Wv3 with my guilides, you know Guilds as in Guild Wars2. The game isn’t called New Content Wars.
