This thread just seems like troll bait to me.

if OP is that impressed with Lollet and the Herpblades imagine what will happen when they actually see a decent villain with flaws a tragic past and drive.

This particular character op is discussing, who shall not be named is flat, one dimensional and apparently a prodigy at any vocation they pick up this does not impress me.

So this boils down to achievement point farming? Personal AP is even more of a joke.

Telling you to die so they can get points OP? How about they come pry them from your cold dead hand? You are in the right in my opinion.

the champ trains in low level zones like Queensdale is also kind of a disgrace, new players have no idea what’s going on they stumble upon the troll rune stone, move it and then get yelled at in map chat, i’ve seen it happen. The zerg train has no more claim to the troll stone than any other player or group. It’s a weak mentality, to follow the group just to get those rewards much faster. Also these new players don’t learn how to play, they learn how to zerg, then then come to dungeons and complain that the game is too hard because the essentially have to be reprogrammed.

This wasn’t an issue when i had low levels in queensdale because champs used to give out crappy blues so killing them wasn’t really a priority for a lot of players only those looking for a small chunk of exp.

I like champ loot boxes i think it’s a good idea, but leave it to people to figure out a way to ruin the experience for everyone who doesn’t go along with the herd.

What is a Guardian, are you playing as one?

in Guardian

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

As a Guardian you are very versatile, you can do a good amount of damage, you can gear yourself offensively and still have plenty of defense from blocks, dodges/vigor, and blinds. We aren’t pigeon holed into healers or support so strap on your berserker gear if you like. We have excellent melee AOE with staffs, GS and hammer as well as single targets with Sword, Mace, and scepter. Range isn’t our strongest point but we can get the job done if the situation warrants.

The most important thing about Guardians is damage prevention not restoration. We have access to AOE projectile reflects and absorb, group stability, AOE condition removal options, and a couple of ways to give group blocks. These skills if applied at the right time make the difference between a party wipe and a total win.

Guardians aren’t about damage repair, they are about damage prevention that’s why they are called Guardians.

When Wars get the AOE projectile reflect/absorb, group stability and group blocks we have access to then I will be annoyed.

That’s what having a whole generation or two of kids growing up with Cloud Strife, Inuyasha, Berserk, and countless others will get you. Also the GS is usually one of the easier weapons to use. Its the noobtube of GW2.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t shy away from using them when the situation warrants it but we could use some more love on other weapons.

The lack of decent looking maces and foci in this game makes me sad.

I expect the mace variety to be a little lacking since only Guard and War can use them, not sure why Engi can’t has mace and hammer.

As for focus, i’d like some more talisman looking foci, like an Ank, that blue glowey symbol on the guard’s starter helm is an Ank i want one of those, or maybe a focus that looks like a dagger, like an ornate ritual dagger made out of bone or gold.

More of our high-quality cinematics isn’t really an option, since they take months and many people to make and we’re at max (or over) capacity on those at is most of the time.

Any solution will likely include our plans to try and make Living World, and stories around it easier to access, understand, and find out more about even once they have past.

Keep the suggestions coming, we’re always listening and do want to resolve getting stronger, more approachable, easier to understand stories as part of the Gw2 experience.

As you are at max (and over) capacity, the most obvious suggestion / solution is to slow down. As a software developer, I am pretty sure that making releases you seem to pretend are impossible, at least with the intended quality, when the product is as complex as an MMORPG. Because as we all can see, each release it’s plenty of bugs, and the hotfixes usually comes with bugs too, and you have problems with the comunication with the players, problems with the narration of the story (wich is what this topic is about), a lot of uncertainity and are generating a ton of frustration to the players. Frankly, it’s obvious you are at overcapacity.

You hit the nail right on the head sir. Completely 100% agree with this, i never even think about attempting new content the first day it’s released.

As far as cenimatics go, I’m not expecting some glorious cutscene one might find in a single player RPG such as Final Fantasy. I’m thinking more along the lines of the dialogue scenes that transpire in dungeons and personal story chapters between the NPCs and sometimes the Player Characters. Are these not prerendered character models in front of a static background? I do not work in the business so i can’t possibly grasp everything that goes into making this game, but if it takes a while to produce something like this, then that’s fine by me. I don’t mind to wait for it, as Johasthan says you guys need to slow down. I think there is a growing concern about too much too fast when it comes to LW.

snip

They didn’t make it into a cutscene because it wasn’t necessary. You got all the information you needed without it.

Yeah i did because i am pretty observant, i’ve yet to read what they put on the web and i have no intention to do so, but they must have felt it was important enough if they put it on the web, why not put it in the game instead? Guild Wars2 is a game not a novel, though they do have novels based on the GW2 universe that leads up the beginning of the GW2 game setting. there are plenty of cut-scenses and dialogue snippets that explain everything that happened in the novels so players aren’t lost. I think they need to keep putting that kind of work in the game. Throwing it out there on the web only seems like they are doing half of the job. Maybe that chat that MK and BP did sum up the web story and that’s great.

But apparently scarlet had a back story too unfortunately that was also on the web so I did not read it. I might actually be interested in her as a character if they gave me a reason to but i don’t see any of that because it’s not presented in the medium in which she was created for, the game not a web story.

all i’m saying is that a little well written cut-scene can go a long way, but that they probably don’t have time to make something like that because of the bi weekly schedule they are placed on. Even if they are working on this a month or so in advance because they have rotating teams things still seemed rushed. I am not even blaming the devs they have talent and tools what they don’t seem to have is time. anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Kill Scarlet please.

the reason why some players insist on berserker setups with a focus on direct damage is because it’s proven to be very effective. this is especially true if you consider the dodge and block mechanics that the game offers.

I would welcome a change to this model but until then i’m going to bring the best damage i can to the fight while still being able to survive the majority of the encounters. if a particular situation warrants it I will break out my PVT armor but this rarely comes up.

a good example of this was the aether retreat final boss. I loved it from start to finish. you had to factor in survivability due to the fact that as you wore down the bosses health pool there was an increment of time in which the boss could not take damage and you had to survive cannon fire. all zerking did was speed up how fast the cannon fire would start up again.

My zerker friends died every time where as i was in a more survivable build because i had previously done it and knew what to expect.

and a lot of players did not like that excellent boss fight sadly….

If the developers actually took time they could find a way to present what they thought had to be put up on the web into the game. How many games have people played that have had great stories? Its not hard.

I stood around in the labyrinth yesterday and watched the dialogue between MK and BP in in those short snippets of dialogue i picked up the gist of their history. MK killed BP’s mother and other parental figures in his life because that’s what MK does he’s insane after all. At some point he shoved BP into a box and apparently that’s how he died living off of candy corn in a box. But BP is not some heroic figure either he’s just as bad as MK his memories are a mess as well so this suggests trauma as BP couldn’t remember that it was he who tortured someone he admired and blamed it on MK.

There was no wall of text and just by that alone a short dialogue that lasted only a few minutes i picked up a great deal of history between the two, it was just a few lines of voiced dialogue. It’s on repeat in the labyrinth so jut go in there and hang out if you haven’t caught it yet. Why they couldn’t have made that into an instance with a cut-scene of some sort though is beyond me. You can tell a story retroactively through good dialogue.

Why is this so hard to do? I’ll tell you why

bi weekly turnover, if they had more time they could make richer content instead trying to meat a deadline.

completely agree, the story should be in-game, if it isn’t it doesn’t exist. not having it in-game is just lazy.

Agree with the lazy factor. Most of what we get every two weeks is lazy content there are exceptions but this is specifically true in the form of to-do lists and the story part of LS

Maybe lazy isn’t the right word though, i think a better word might be Rushed.

Tired of Achievement Hunting

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: MastaNeenja.1537

MastaNeenja.1537

I agree with OP there’s too much chase the carrot or skinner box to this game. I ignore it as much as possible. AP total is tied into chests that you get every 500 AP you farm and make no mistake it’s farming now if you care about your AP total anyway. They have just disguised it as such to keep players occupied i think the luster is wearing off.

I played this game from launch it was great, that’s what i came to do play the game as it was. However after wintersday last year the model changed first they tried LS on a monthly basis and players complained they got bored with it. That’s because it was actually kind of boring at that point they just had you out doing scavenger hunts and random molten alliance mobs would spawn in the shiverpeaks and ascalon. There wasn’t much to tie anything together no cutscenses not much in the way of characters either and the tasks were kind of arbitrary. So the idea was to pump everything out at a faster rate and a more rigid schedule because some people got bored. It’s still the same stuff just at a higher frequency. Every month the player base got a new set of weapons skins and a back item to earn and it has been that way since. We got a new to-do list every two weeks as well, which when they decided to kick this thing into bi weekly content updates they also introduced the new AP award system to keep everyone busy working on their next AP chest rewards with zenith weapon skins or some other in game reward.

Not all of us were bored though. Maybe they were the majority at the time but I am not so sure that’s the case now. I see more and more threads showing up on here that protest how the LW has been in recent months. So I think and hope that maybe things will change again.

I would like to see more for GW2 i don’t want it to grow into a stale game that never changes. But I would prefer that it happen with care and planning, has a good overall story with characters that i actually care about. Tybalt was a character that I cared about, LS has yet to produce a Tybalt.

I don’t need AP to validate me as a player, but I do like the idea that we get rewards for continuing to play the game. I don’t like a to-do list every two weeks but i might like to return to older maps and explore them if they gave me a reason to, zerg invasions, and scavenger hunts are not good reasons. If a new feature such as a minigame or structure like a new dungeon, was added to a map that might make me want to revisit it.

TLDR: Richer content requires more effort, while to-do lists are easier to make and less time consuming on the staff so they are able to repeat this process on a bi weekly schedule

MastaNeenja.1537

I liked it better when halloween was its own event and not part of the LW scheme.

I’ve come to expect that every two weeks they will release more weak content, it’s now the status quo. The only thing I really look forward to at this point is the quality of game updates that they occasionally sneak into the game. LFG, account wallet, and the clean up of skill/trait explanations are examples of what I am talking about, user interface stuff.

I had hoped that Halloween would be special but how can it be when they fit it into the same rigid Living World model?

Every new update is the same.

- new stuff in the gem shop how many different sets of indestructible tools are needed?

- weak story

- new lame weapon skins that you can usually only obtain through dumb luck

- a chore list that you have to do to get a random back item or title. while i like the idea of getting new back pieces why must it almost exclusivity revolve around AP farming?

since we get the same thing constantly it all washes together an becomes hum drum and not very memorable especially since the majority of the stuff disappears after no later than one month and all we have as a reminder of any of it is a half finished achievement/chore list

Yes i like new content, no i don’t the same thing every two weeks with a different coat of paint

Yes I am aware that I don’t have have to do any of the new content and i do ignore the majority of it but, some of it you just can’t ignore. For instance I run dungeons nightly and they put a new dungeon into the game and removed an old path in the process.

MastaNeenja.1537

Cheezement points only show how much time a player has spent doing tasks which grant the points. It is sort of a gauge that can show you how much time the player has spent playing the game, unfortunately most of these points are granted through open world PVE which we all know is care bear mode for the most part. But maybe they learned how to dodge, maybe.

In general I’m more optimistic about a pug if they have a higher amount of AP though. i think this system isn’t in place to rate players it’s there to keep people playing for skins and boxes instead.

I get what OP is saying though its just one factor. If you can see everything else you start to get a picture of what you’re working with. Though I don’t think I’d ask for traits or utility skills it seems a bit to intrusive more my tastes. I have most of the armors memorized at this point, unless you transmute i know if you’re a squishy zerker or a wet noodle tank.

If you don’t say something upon joining I keep my eye on you. You’re only one good screw up away from getting kicked at that point. I will be waay more forgiving if you simply type two letters, H and I.

Twilight Assault

Now I realize that those dungeons are populated with Aetherblades and Scarlet holos but the dungeons could have been populated with any other kind of mob and villain and they still would be good. What i’m getting at, if you’re going to give us fun things to do you don’t have to work so hard to crank it out every two weeks and I don’t really need a to-do list attached to that either that makes it feel like a homework assignment and takes the fun out of it. If you’d like to add more stories to GW2 that’s fine too but take your time come up with something we care about, something that’s engaging and that doesn’t drag it out for weeks because you feel you need to fit into a rigid bi weekly schedule, give us a nice near expansion worthy story, or just a total expansion when you feel like it, no rush.

Tequatl the Sunless worst living world event imo!

Only thing that is really terrible are rewards. Not worth a single second spended for that event.

Lol you must be new to GW, this is the norm.

I never expect good rewards, i just do it because it’s fun, you’ll be in for a lot less disappointment that way.

Almost 7000 archievments points. I am not new. The fact that this is norm does not mean that it is right. This game is unrewarding in many aspects and that must be changed.

Anet already doles out a participation trophy of one random rare upon completion of any world event at one point they didn’t even do that. Now we get random chance boxes with little prizes and a chance at an exotic for killing champs instead of just blues and greens. I’m not sure of what you’re expecting from this event in particular but if its a guaranteed exotic or several gold you’re in for some disappointment.

Rares are no reward. It is just salvage trash. Easy content provide enough of this, why should i want to loot it from encounter like tequatl? It is weird to have no good loot from harder content.
I can do CoF1 and have good chance to get same reward as is from Tequatl.

Your comparison between the two is excellent, just like COF path 1, Teq takes 15 minutes or less and both events are repeatable and relatively easy once you know how it’s done. COF gives you diminished returns for subsequent runs and Teq has a chance of failure but rewards you with loot that you can only get from that event.

The reason why Teq fails frequently is because you have more people involved where as inversely a small team of experienced players can clear COF in 8 min. Let’s not forget that people have had a year to practice COF 1 where Teq 2.0 has only been out for about a month. The point I’m trying to make is you spend roughly the same about of time so that’s why the rewards are similar.

Golds are salvage trash? So i guess ectos are trash. The way you worded that reeks of entitlement. Yes i am sure that the majority of gold drops are salvaged. If we got exotics from events like Teq (and there will probably be other dragon revamps) then they’d just be salvage trash too. You have to draw the line somewhere and so far you have remained very ambiguous about the rewards you expect from this event.

From the Teq event you get a title, a back skin, that are guaranteed pending you put in the work for it and a chance at a weapon skin that can only be earned from doing that event. Those were the rewards offered by Anet, no one told you to do the Teq event if you didn’t like those rewards why not run CoF instead?

Anyone Else Feels Tired Of Living Story?

I really enjoyed the September break, sure we had SAB and Teq but those had nothing to do with LS and those were actually fun.

That’s sort of a funny way of looking at it. “Stuff I like won’t be considered part of it, but everything I don’t will”

All of the stuff added in the content releases is part of the living world; it’s not going to all be directly related. It’s all going to be very different too, and some parts you’re (each of us) going to enjoy more than others.

Except what I was saying is true in that SAB and Teq had nothing to do with Living Story they were a part of the Living World two week update spam however. I would have still liked those two events regardless of when or how they were released.

It is my opinion that as a whole the two week content spam will be detrimental to Guild Wars 2, but that doesn’t mean that everything that comes through is bad. If you keep swinging a hammer eventually you’ll hit a nail.
