Guys don’t rip on the Dredge, they are the Guardians of the Fractals that will scare the Carebear LW/LS achievement hunters away. They may very well be the last line of defense against the waves of bads who will rush the fractals for their AP only to crash on the shore that will be the gate room.

Tried to make a more lean Norn warrior and all i got was hovering pauldrons, or hover shoulders (more so than usual) I got annoyed with it so much i just made him beefy like all the rest.

Boss Stacking

Spider queen, i was under the impression that since its ranged attack was so strong the idea was to melee it to not trigger the attack. This concept has been around since the 8 Bit days I think Mega Man taught me this lesson. So ideally you’d want the players and the boss to stay in one spot, stacking reinforces that. Otherwise someone breaks rank and runs around the spider gives chase, the other players are swatting the air and might can’t be stacked because the fire field is way over there.

Rumblus, again is sort of an old boss concept, in which boss attacks would take up 95% of the screen and if you got hit you died instantly but there were safe spots you could stand in to avoid it. Now I know Grast has a dome that he can pop up and honestly its not that hard to stay in the dome and survive and win the encounter. That aside whether you stand in the dome or next to the pillar you’re still confined to a small space to move around in, the boss can hit you in either but everyone is clumped together in that one spot so what’s the difference you’re pretty much stacking either way? As long as you keep Grast alive (not difficult) he always pops the dome before the rocks fall so this isn’t an exploit to avoid the rocks.

Rarely is there a single solution to a real world problem, but even more so rare are instances in which the most efficient way to deal with a problem is not used. That’s kind of what separates people from everything else on this planet. We got really good at solving problems efficiently.

There was a wise robot that once said he would build his own casino with black jack and hookers, I suggest you do the same OP.

Make it known to all when you make your party that you don’t want to do anything you consider an exploit and that there will be no stacking on any bosses and enjoy your results. In fact that sounds like a great homework assignment, why don’t you come back with some screen shots and show us how it went?

I’m ok with Gem store armor its just skins with no stat value so this debunks any pay to win comments. We all payed to play the game too, I dropped 60$ the day it came out now it’s cheaper so yeah we all pay to play I don’t get this argument you don’t need gem store armor to play.

The only concern I would have is if all new armor released is gem store purchases only. They do need to add armor that players can earn (Not dumb luck RNG) from time to time as well too. Dungeon armors are great but those are over a year old, a new Dungeon with new armor for example would be awesome.

I like the description of disposable content that’s pretty much what it amounts to, it’s in no way special just a list of chores. Eventually people will get burned out on it and move on to the next thing. This will force them to actually innovate.

Ignoring it, well this works for a lot of it but not all of it. They completely removed a dungeon path and replaced it with another one, that’s something you can’t really ignore if you run dungeons; the old path in particular. It would certainly help if they gave us the ability to turn off all LW notifications in the options menu.

Since you have been absent from the game for a while i can understand your title but the subject of the topic should really be called “Overexposure of the same content” After playing it for a few months and looking past the glaze you’ll see what I mean.

To save you a little time; despite the fact the community is divided on the bi-weekly release and this has been brought to their attention and a lengthy discussion was had they have no intention of changing the release schedule at this time. I can only assume that the current model is too profitable for them right now. When the temporary players are tired of the temporary content and move on to the next big thing we may see some changes, sadly though until that time you’re just going to have to deal with it or find another game to play.

It’s the quality of the Living Stories that’s the problem, not the fact that there’s no expansion. What makes you think an expansion won’t have the same low quality story that the Living Story does?

Considering the how the Personal Story went and how the LS is doing this may not be far from the truth but I’d still prefer an expansion over what we have now. I’m thinking along the lines of there is only one way to go but up, but then maybe i’m too optimistic.

To be fair they do have to play to a wide demographic. Video games aren’t just for adolescent to adult males anymore.

My party was full zerk for that path. I think we wiped once as we were figuring out the mechanics. In fact, obal got a bug where after we wiped and spawned from the waypoint, he somehow spawned right at the boss. By the time we ran up there, he already solo’d the stacks off of her and was dpsing.

I’m not saying it can’t be done with a DPS group, to me the set up of the fight seemed to be staged play. Hit boss for a while then survive cannon fire remove stacks, rinse repeat. A patient player who causally stands in the safe spots of the aoe rings doesn’t need armor or extra health.

Also a big problem i saw and again this is coordination (not PVE zerging) was trying to lure the boss to remove the stacks. It would probably be easier soloing since there would be only one target.

What I am trying to say is I like the mechanics of that fight it wasn’t just burn the boss life bar down. I think they were trying something different with that dungeon and a lot of players didn’t like it, unfortunately. The way the game is set up now it encourages low survivability and high damage. They could break away from this but it would require effort, until then green light on the high damage setups! That’s what I run too.

As for OP, you’re playing the wrong game, sorry. It was advertised before the game was released that tank, healer, and dps (aka the trinity) would be done away with. You have essentially bought a screwdriver and are trying to hammer nails with it.

I personally hoped that they would replace the trinity with a less role focused, and more open experience. But instead of tank/healer/DPS, what we got was just DPS. The entire PVE game seems completely focused on DPS. Healing and Toughness have been greatly neglected, and are severely underpowered, while direct damage is way too effective.

Anyone remember Aetherblade retreat? The final boss was pretty much anti zerk DPS in how it was set up and that dungeon caused a tsunami of tears.

It didn’t matter how fast the party burned down Mai’s health when she went invulnerable in lost health increments and it then became a dodge, heal survival test to live through the cannon fire.

There was probably a better way to do it but … temp content =/

I like the Aether path, I wish it gave out better gold. Mostly the group i run with does dungeons for the gold, so we don’t hit this one usually.

As for dungeon difficulty compared to PVE yes it’s noticeable and is working as intended Dungeons are supposed to be one of the more difficult aspects of the game. It’s not a 5-man zerg that almost sounds like an oxymoron, parties should go into dungeons, players who can cooperate and work together form parties. People who run around a map pressing 1 and occasionally 6 form zergs.

Open world PVE should train you for dungeons but right now all it teaches new players to do is zerg for champ loot, then they get pasted when they enter a dungeon, because its a completely different animal.

are you logging in every day or just when ever? I’d say take a week off play some different games or get out of the house if you can. If you’re already taking weeks off and its not working out for then i’d say pick up something else for a while and revisit maybe a month later at the least.

That is one the the attractive factors about this game no monthly subscription so if you go on a 3 month hiatus you’re not wasting money. NCsoft wants players to log in every day and spend gems or at least every week hence the 25 spore hunt but that’s temporary content for temporary players. I’m not so certain they are interested in long term players at this time. That’s my take on it anyway.

When their player base dwindles down because the temp players have gorged themselves on temp content we may actually start to see real improvements or expansions in this game but that could take a while so a hiatus doesn’t sound so bad. They will probably do class balances and updates for years to come so ele may not be so great now but it could turn around later.

I think i understand what you’re saying to some extent, its like you want to be friends with this game because you’ve had some good times in the past but right now it’s being a jerk

I used to dabble in wvw but recently they started attaching achievement points to that and just adding updates to it that i don’t care about.

I did see a bear bow last night decked in COF armor, we were in TA Forward. He suicided on the death bubbles trying to get to the archers.

He tried to follow my warrior in cause i used shield when I ran into the bubble. It wasn’t so bad asuming he’d never done the path before but when i got him up and he did it a second time only seconds later I loled hard.

I’m kind of a torch advocate, Torch 4 double tap bursts fairly well, 5 is more AOE-ish its also condi removal but doesn’t burn for some reason…

Focus is where you’d want to go if you’re playing with fire fields or need extra blocks/blinds with vulnerability.

Focus has more utility but torch does more direct damage especially if blinds/vulnerability are useless like when you fight dredge

Shield makes me sad I want to use one but the skill set is just no… actually i mostly blame the cool downs.

Actually I don’t get this at all, there’s plenty of non skimpy heavy and light armor available. Sadly medium does seem to be regulated to mostly long coats, so i won’t be touching on medium armor since most of it covers up fairly well there are exceptions but these are slim pickings.

The crafted draconic armor while tight fitting on both male and female chests doesn’t show an inch of skin below the neck line.

The first two dungeons armors AC and CM are also not skimpy. I quite like like both of the heavies and once again for those two show no skin below the neck line. Same could be said for the light armor from these two dungeons as well, very conservative though if you look hard enough you may see a little thigh on the CM light mmm saucy!

SE and COF are also non skimpy so i do believe that’s about half the dungeon armor right there that is not skimpy. These are level 80 exotic armors that come in a variety of stats so the skimpy armor argument doesn’t really have much to stand on in my opinion. If one doesn’t like how any of those 4 different sets of armor look then that’s a completely different argument that’s left up to personal tastes. There’s also lower level craftable armor that looks more practical that covers the player in a conservative manner, chain, Scale and Steel splint come to mind. Some of the light craftable also looks reasonable but their names escape me. I know the first crafted set is very I Dream of Genie but there are others.

Let’s move on to cultural armor shall we? First off its cultural armor and if you examine Norn culture for starters you’ll know that it’s in their culture to run around half naked, apparently the generate a lot of body heat. Even so Tier 1 Norn heavy is very conservative, Tier 2 and 3 not so much, but there is an option available. The Tier 3 light looks pretty reasonable too Tier 1 and 2 a little skimpy but again Norns get hot so there’s at least some kind of an explanation for that

Human cultural armor… Well the heavy armor covers a lot of skin anyway. The Tier 1 light does as well Tier 2 a little skimpy and Tier 3 … well that just caters to the other end of the spectrum, it’s silly skimpy no denying it. But there is at least one conservative option there.

The point i’m trying to make is that this game offers plenty of options for both the conservative and skimp crowd. What you mostly see are players running around in skimpy armor because that’s what most people like.

That wasn’t directed at your comment specially, just thinking about how it could be implemented. You are probably right in that path buyers only want a finished path and don’t care about rewards but I would prefer they not get anything if possible.

I don’t know a thing about coding so it may not be possible to keep rewards for character swap and d/c but i think it’d be worth a mention to try and keep it available. I’d be bummed if lost my tokens at the end of my run.

Bonus per kill should stay personal, you should get a kill counter in dungeons that show how many tokens/coin you have earned for your murder spree and at the end of the run you get the bonus. This would eliminate partial dungeon runs, and null the bonus for path selling. You can swap characters and keep your bonus but if you leave party it is lost. This would also help with sudden disconnects for when the tiny goblins get into your router, it happens more often than most people realize.

We care about the game itself, but we don’t care about the state of the game in regards to LW, achievement points, dailies, and other skinner box tricks that they are utilizing to get people to log back in and check the gem shop.

We actually want real content (think expansion), not a progress bar, kill counters, or F key hunts.

I would murder all the mobs in the dungeon if i got a reward for it, like bonus gold for clearing a dungeon of mobs. Extra bonus gold if you do it quickly. Or maybe all mobs would drop one extra token on kill. But as it stands learning new ways to skip mobs can be just as rewarding.

Yes dungeons need mob murder time trials!

Getting back to the whole leashing thing, mobs suddenly giving up and staggering back to their patrol zone is rather game breaking but i like to change skills sometimes i forget to do that and i need to break combat so nah

And like others have commented Thief use would sky rocket, people would become sacrifices, or more stacking. No matter how the game changes people will find the easiest way, some call this exploitation. A wise man once said give a task to a lazy man and he will find the easiest way to do it.

I don’t want golds and exotics to fall from the sky or to pop up in these or any chests every time i open them. I think the chest itself is the problem. You want to believe you’ll get something nice but it’s like opening a dumpster instead. I wish they would pull a dark souls and try to kill you with the chest, or maybe you get a nice thing and then the chest doesn’t respawn

Personally I’d like to see LS stop, LW however can continue at a slower pace. Trying to bridge everything that happens together on a bi weekly schedule isn’t working. They have been trying it since January, time to let it go. September was good because it had SAB2 and Teq. They were completely disjointed from LS and they worked. I understand some players weren’t crazy about the actual events and that’s not what I am referring to here just how they had nothing to do with anything else, if you disliked them you skipped them but they were there to try. There was no hassle with trying to keep up with anything else, an Asura made a cool arcade machine and a dragon got stronger because why not?

They can come up with a nice story, introduce new mechanics and zones to explore there’s a word for it, oh yes it’s called an Expansion, yes we need one of those in the works.

additionally I’d say learn when to use Wall of Reflection and/or Shield of the Avenger where appropriate and you’ll be on your way to being a great dungeon Guard.

You could alternatively make a shouting guard for 0/30/0/30/0, put the other 10 where ever it’s also pretty effective.

Hello all, I looked into this because we intended to have a release note for the changes to the champion loot.
We did modify the gold and bloodstone dust coming from champion bags, and a release note will be added shortly.
What I can tell you is that we made a mistake, this one fell through the cracks and I’m truly sorry. I’ve promised before that we won’t make stealthy economic changes without notes and I mean to stick to that promise.
Thank you all for pointing out the error, we will be more vigilant in the future.

To be clear we are absolutely focused on quality. We feel that we can have both this cadence and high quality and are continuing to work toward this. If we feel that we cannot reach this balance then of course like everything, we will evolve as necessary. This said there is a lot we can and are doing to meet concerns regarding the cadence and really polish the positives we have already achieved in this area.. My point is the current plan is to continue with this cadence.

Well this answer seems very ironclad with little room to waver. This was the whole reason why i followed the threads that lead up this answer, and it bothers me for the future of the game. I am one of the many players that sees this as too fast too little and sometimes too buggy. I can’t understand how you can produce quality material under these circumstances but I don’t work in the business either. I only have to go on past experience, and i’m not just referring to GW2. I would rather wait a little longer for a nice steak dinner than to have “steak” tacos from Taco Bell.

When this bi weekly thing first started, i didn’t like the idea on the principals of quantity over quality. However since it was here I thought I’d give it a try. All I have seen is a to-do check list for Achievement points, with very little substance to it, and very little permanent content. So I gave it a fair chance as the months have gone by and I just can’t see it moving beyond this. It also seems to me that this set up favors bi weekly updates over fixing the basic game. The number of quality of game updates compared to how much new content we get seems to be some solid evidence to me.

It makes me feel that the priories are backwards, well they would be my priorities, make a solid foundation then decorate afterwards.

It just seems to me that temporary content will make temporary players that will have their fill and move on, your dedicated player base will eventually move on as well because for all it’s worth the bi weekly updates are just that. To-do lists with a little story wrapped around them, that coincides with new releases in the gem shop. This is great for the short term, but an easy formula to copy for competitors.

I want more from GW2, i want more from the development teams but I’m willing to wait for something truly amazing and cool like an expansion or an update that really sucks you in and makes you care about what’s happening makes you feel like there’s purpose to what you’re doing, player agency. Something not easily copied by competitors and sets GW2 apart from the rest.

Unfortunately I can’t see amazing and cool happening every two weeks. All i can see is a chore list of ho-hum activities, that cannot be disguised.

I have never given a kitten about patch “cadence” in any mmo I’ve played, all I give a kitten about is if it whats being downloaded is fun, or compelling.

Problem with temp content… I was burnt out by the time the 1st living story hit, the go fix the sing posts after the karka invasion. I said yup, kitten that, and took a few months off. Came back a month ago, and only got to hear about the molten alliance, only got to hear about the aetherblades, only got to hear about the cleaning up of southsun, the only thing new in the game was a few lamer guild missions and class balancing.

Don’t sweat it, you didn’t miss much. Just go do the current event and imagine that instead of a Toxic Alliance its the Molten alliance, Dredge and Flamelegion, or the Aetheblades, which are pirates and inquest. Then look at your achievement list, where it says Toxic alliance Slayer replace that with Aethetherblade slayer and so on, you’ll get the idea.

Or you can just go play the vanilla version of the game, heart quests, world events, Spvp, WvW, or dungeons/fractals and enjoy yourself.

Never cared, LW has never been presented in a way that I truly liked and the story is almost non existent. Been patiently waiting for them to go in a different direction.

The idea of an MMORPG that evolves and changes is great but i have seen little evidence that it’s happening.

Achievement points are a cheap trick to get people to keep coming back
The To-do lists tied to the AP are the same thing with a different name every update
None of the characters in the LS are interesting or memorable to me
New weapon skins and back items don’t matter to me because of RNG and all of the above.

I used to do my daily well daily but now i don’t, if I happen to get it from playing, great, other-wise who cares…

Fix the core game please! This what i play for.
Plan a true expansion too that would be awesome!

Bi weekly LW content is too frequent. So between the two choices presented, i’d say monthly

Here’s an idea

Disable commander tags in pve

This 1000 times, the Commander system needs to be reworked and should only be an WvW attribute IMO.

While it won’t stop the zerging it will be one less point of encouragement to zerg.

I watched Batman the animated series when i was in middle school until the animation quality took a dive and Robin came in. As for the rest of those shows, nope didn’t watch.

So i get the picture that you expect the story arcs for GW2 to be on the same level as a Saturday morning cartoon, well that’s great you like it, but you honestly came to the wrong thread. This thread is questioning why there are 3 alliances

One well thought out alliance would have worked.
Two alliances is pushing it…
Three alliances is just overkill

If this were a book or a TV series I would have stopped reading/watching a long time ago out of boredom , no need to skip to the end.

Fortunately it’s a game, so there’s things other than LW to do. Which i happily do and i try my darndest to just avoid LW content as much as possible. However LW is like a bad dorm mate you’re stuck with in college that you can’t get rid of.

They are sort of hobbled by their medium, but you’re absolutely correct. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.

Its not “skipping to the end” when 1. they’ve done this 4 times so far and 2. they tell you its her doing on the FRONT PAGE. And nobody is complaining about things being “given away” anyways. We’re all complaining because we’re sick and tired of scarlet. She’s got the depth of bad Chris Nolan’s Joker fan fic soaking in a puddle.

It is sort of skipping to the end when they data mine their answers… or at least enough to give it away. That’s really not any fun.

Scarlet has no worse depth than Batman’s Joker, or Catwoman, or Two-Face, and batman is a classic.

No they are not hobbled by their medium, a video game is an excellent medium with which to tell a story. We have all had at least one good story experience from playing video games so there’s no need to site examples of this. It’s just a bad story.

What story needs 3 consecutive failed alliances brought on by the same super villain? Anyone with half a brain would should see that after the first two failed that running with Scarlet is a bad idea. It’s like the plot and characters are not self aware … not Living in their World…

You people sure do like skipping to the end of the book and reading it backwards, then griping that everything was given away….

Let them tell their tale. You don’t necessarily have to like or click with the entire cast of characters, but you’re not the one writing the tale either.

Gw2 is about profit and not entertaining content that users want.

This, the way they are doing things now must be way more profitable than actually giving us a real expansion.

Of course if we got an actual expansion, you know something that they have to put out on a disc or do a massive download I would buy it on day one of release.

Another commenter in this thread said, “get used to it” and I also agree with that. I have gotten used to it, it’s just a glaze now nothing special.

On the plus side they will soon run out of factions that can form alliances with other factions. Look at what they have already quickly burned through, Dredge/Flame Legion, Inquest/Pirates, now it’s Krait/ NC.

Unless they start an Alliance of alliances, well i guess they already did that with the random Lollet invasions which are still happening for some strange reason.

Pretty soon there won’t be anything left to form an alliance with, except the alliance of players who are bored with GW2’s much hyped LW.

Looks like it just amounts to priorities though i do agree that they can’t take a LW team and put them on bug fixes. But if there wasn’t so much new LW fluff there would probably be less bugs. Because new content can be buggy, and also if you’re not prioritizing new content over over quality control then you’d have a larger quality control team and a smaller LW team.

The game is like a cruise ship, the bugs are small holes in the hull, and Living World is what the Cruise Line wants you to see, the top deck.

I’m just amazed i’m on a boat, i never thought i would be on one.

Solution to the Scarlet Problem

I think during F&F Scarlet didnt even exist in their plans, she’s a midsummer addition that was attributed all the previous LS updates because at the time players complained that there is no rhyme or reason to the living story, no overarching connection. Enter Scarlet as the deus ex solution to every non-dragon evil in the world. Urgh

That sounds about right, the character does seem rather hastily thrown together. The VA who provided her dialogue could have easily recorded most her lines in a day since they are one liners and LOL for the most part. Of course she could always return to the studio for follow ups but i just don’t think it would take that much time to do since it’s not an entire seasons worth of work just a coupe of info dumps here and there.


As for what OP suggested hmmm, no that’s about as cliche’ as the character herself, let her go gracefully for her fan’s sake. I think the worse thing that could happen would be if she kicks the bucket while laughing hysterically as she lets herself die in some manner such as an explosion or being killed by one of her own creations.
