I agree, with lack of active players in all zones the entire concept of “massive multiplayer” just fades, and it turns GW2 in just a multiplayer game.

More events needed in all zones

When it comes to dynamic events, it’s great to see how Orr works, something is going on constantly and it’s great, but why can’t we have more events in regular zones? It would be great, especially if you have 100% on the current zone and you’re just grinding for materials.

Of course, not every event needs to be combat based, we can have regular events that require us to use world items, such as weapons and similar, on a same way that we have heart quests that can be done without killing an enemy. I think this kind of events along with more events in all zones would be a welcome addition, giving you a change of pace.

FoTM wouldn’t be a problem if it’s only available to lvl 80, at least more people would be available in the world.

If everyone is riding the gear treadmill in the FoTM they should make this gear available in Orr and lvl 80 zones, at least people would have to work their way for it, and not stand in LA whole day long.

I’ve been playing for few hours today, in three different zones, and it feels like am in a ghost town. You can see a player or two running once in a while, but besides that…there’s nothing.

Main chat is dead, you can hear echos of “LFG (insert dungeon name here)”. Back in September the main chat was alive, there was casual chat, disputes, event notifications, and a great sense of community, but now everything seems so dead. What happened? It’s really depressing to run around alone in a quiet zone. And no, I’m not blaming the Lost Shores and new dungeon, this thing happened before the new content.

So where is everybody? And yes, I’m on high population server.

Why GW2 does NOT need a LFG system like WoW

I just spent about 6 hours in Orr spamming the main channel to find a party to do anything, exploring, events, anything except dungeons, and I’m a bit annoyed to be honest, because I just managed to find two parties in six hours of constant gameplay.

I’m concerned about the communication as well, but when you’re only person in a zone on high population server that talks on main channel yelling “LFG” every 30 mins, you know that something is wrong. No responses, nothing…

I honestly don’t know how to find a group, my 214-member guild isn’t helpful as well and I don’t think that finding another guild will change anything.

Weekly achievements anyone?

Sure, monthly achievements are great, but what about weekly achievements, do you think that it would be a good addition to see them or not?

Personally I like achievements, but since I’m lagging in WvW and don’t play that often, monthly achievement is almost unreachable, so this is a case where weekly achievements could come in handy. What do you think?

If you have a party, you can ping or mark things on the minimap, but how about pinging (and marking) in the in game world? For example, party leader can hold the Alt key and left click somewhere in his line of sight and all the party members will see his ping point in the game world and on the minimap as well.

It could be useful in dungeons or during events since you can’t ping or mark locations, just enemies.

Add Karka events in coastal zones

in Dynamic Events

Mentalhead.5721

Exactly, it adds more variety when it comes to enemies, maybe even few new events. As for the Orr, I said maybe because Orr is Risen exclusive zone, just like the Cove is Karka exclusive zone, but once again I agree with you, killing Risen over and over can get repetitive after a while.

Add Karka events in coastal zones

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

We invaded their home, so it’s no wonder to see some of the Karka fleeing. I think it would be interesting to see them or at least have a Karka event(s) in coastal zones (like in Phase 2 of Lost Shores), maybe even in Orr.

What do you think?

How to spice up those dynamic events?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

We all love dynamic events, but after a while they get a bit repetitive, so here’s an idea to spice them up a bit.

Make events branch. For example, you know the Queensdale water pump quest? Bandits poison it, you stop them…blah, blah, we did it 100 times so far.

Why not add different “paths” that will be selected randomly, or by some other factor? For example, why don’t bandits try to destroy the pump once in a while? If they succeed, you have to drive them out to repair the pump. After driving them out, you need to repair the pump, but here’s the branching part, you might have, or don’t have enough metal for it (this could be determined by a random factor or it can be related to another quest), if you don’t have, you have to gather the scraps and protect the workers in the next stage or you have to go to the mine and collect some on your own, and use that metal to repair the pump. Here’s another branch, if the mine is captured by bandits, you have to clear it before you can gather the metal, if there are no bandits, everything goes by the plan. Also, a random Veteran wouldn’t be a bad addition to a event once in a while.

Here’s just a one idea how can you make one event more interesting and less repetitive. However, although this idea sounds nice, I don’t know if it even possible to add such thing in the game, it will probably take too much time for the devs to rewrite the code and add branching events.

What’s your opinion? Do you have any ideas how to make events more interesting?

Opinion: Orr and Southsun Cove are player unfriendly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mentalhead.5721

IMO Straits of Devastation is rather unfriendly…sure you can navigate, but on the west side of the map, near Balthazar, it’s just mayhem. In a way, that’s good, it’s a end zone, it’s a doorstep of Orr, the first line of defense, and it shouldn’t be that easy. But I admit, sometimes it can get annoying, especially if you’re soloing and you can’t find a party.

As for Cove, you can do it alone, but if you stay away from the Veteran Karka. Still, game doesn’t have much to offer in that zone, in terms of exploration and events, POIs, vistas and skillpoints, so it’s not the no.1 zone for high level players.

The events were awesome, I loved the one-time finale, but we have to ask ourselves, what now?

As far as the wiki says, there are only 6 events in this zone, and in my humble opinion, the zone itself is tiny, so it doesn’t have much to offer to lvl 80 players, except the jumping puzzle.

For example, we see that Sparkfly Fen has a road that leads to Southsun Cove (this road is blocked), but still not accessible, so I’m hoping that this zone can get expanded in a future, maybe add more ground to explore or underwater zones.

Anyway, what’s your opinion on this?

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

During your playthrough of the game you committed genocide against many races/species, and are effectively an ecological terrorist by depleting many areas of their resources and by helping several organizations build massive industrial setups.

We’re all genocidal, homicidal, ecological terrorists and the dragons are here to save Tyria from us.

The last sentence would be an amazing twist in the lore. I would like to see that in game.

What about humans committing genocide on Char before the first game?
As for Karka, they are animals, not capable of diplomacy, so we couldn’t negotiate with them. We had to take care of the threat, and without their leader (I assume the Ancient Karka was that), Lion Arch is safe, for now.

Armors and female characters…In my opinion it’s silly to see a female character running trough snow with a miniskirt and a top. She’ll probably freeze, and how does that protect you from any attack? It probably makes you even more vulnerable.
It would be great to see a female character wearing something little less revealing and something that actually protects from damage, so a toggle option would be nice I guess.

Southsun Cove, long term?

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

No skillpoints, no points of interest, no vistas, and most importantly, no events. There might be landing event from time to time, but that won’t keep me there. Also, my biggest complaint is that the island itself is too small. Why not expand with two more islands or more ground to cover (for example Priory explorers can discover it, or something). And the funny part is that, there’s a road leading to this zone from the east, from Sparkfly Fen, it’s blocked atm.

According to the wiki there are just 6 events in that zone, and that’s enough to keep players in it. Expand the zone, add more land, more events, and it will be perfect.

Multiple tiers of weapon skills...

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

In my view it’s a bad idea to add new skills based on levels.
What I suggest, is that you make people EARN their new skills.
If you go to your Hero (H) screen and go to Achievements and then
go to “Slayer” you’ll see that there’s challenges for every weapon.
Such as “Get 500 kills with a Sword”. Therefore, I say, that when players
complete one of these, THEN they unlock a new skill.

Why is this good? Because it eliminates the confusion moreso than what
the OP suggested. For instance, if you’ve ACTUALLY gotten 5,000 kills with
that sword (which is an actual Achievement you can get) then surely
you’ll be familiar with your sword skills by then; enough so as to reward you
with a new skill set perhaps.

This is also logical and adds some “realism” to the game, because in real life, the
more you practice, the better you get; thus I think this might work.

I like your suggestion that you get new weapon skills as you get more kills, but there’s a tiny problem with it. For example as a ranger I don’’t like the skills on my sword, and if I want new sets of skills for it, I have to use it (or dare I say to grind) to get 1000 or more kills to upgrade unlock new skill). This system would be great, but it mustn’t feel like grinding.

Trading "stand" option

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mentalhead.5721

Mentalhead.5721

I don’t know if ANet is planning to add player to player trading, but if there were such an option in the game I don’t think it should be standard trading, like in WoW, for example.

Instead, each player should have it’s own “stand” so to say, on which he places items that he wants to sell. This “stand” won’t work as a separate storage, since you can only sell items that are in your inventory/bank/account bank. System is the same like the one on Trading Post, you enter your desired price (money or items, or both, or maybe even several prices such), and when another player inspects your “stand” he can buy your items and get them via mail.

In addition, there might be a bargain option that works like standard trading, or maybe you could also use the bargain option to get items from the “stand” to get a different price.

P.S. Each player should have its “shopping list” along with their desired prices, so that you sellers can find customers faster.

Multiple tiers of weapon skills...

Mentalhead.5721

As for enhancing your current skills, that’s a great idea, at least for me since I love diversity and customization, but I think it would be hard to balance since you need to have both cons and pros or else everyone would go for +10% damage if there’s no drawback, and the normal skill (non-enhanced) would become obsolete.

As for new skills, they don’t have to be more powerful or anything like that, it would be stupid to move from one set of basic skills and never go back, but personally I wouldn’t mind having more weapon skills.

As for learning curve, I don’t see a problem if you unlock your first Tier 2 skill on lvl 40, since you’re going to have some knowledge regarding the game mechanics.

It’s an interesting idea. My neighbor tried GW2 few times when he was at my place, and he got to the lvl 30, and since he’s planning to buy his own copy he would like to continue using his character, so this option would be perfect.

However, there’s a dark side to character transfer, we all remember WoW, so I think that you should be limited to 1 character transfer per three months or something like that to prevent character trading.

Is there way to keep track of character transfers in order to prevent character trading?

I’ve hit lvl 80 few days ago, and it’s still weird for me that I’m using the same 5 weapon skills that I’ve used from lvl 1.

So here’s my idea, why not add tiers of weapon skill so we can change them like the slot skills? It could bring a bit of fresh air to the game, especially if you unlock those skills at specific levels such as 20, 25, 30 etc.

On the other hand, it could be bit confusing to new players maybe and it might be hard to balance it, but it might not be a bad idea for a future plan.

One question remains, how would you click your skills if you have this control system on? Maybe a hotkey to toggle mouselook on and off (such as a right mouse button, since you won’t be using it if you have mouselook on).

Problem is not the representation, but the communication in-game in this case, since as a leader I represent my guild 99% of playtime.

Mentalhead.5721

I love how can I unlearn my traits if I’m not satisfied with a current set, it’s a great money sink and great option in general, so why don’t we have that with skills as well? For example, I just used 30 skill points to get my ultimate skill, and honestly, I’m not too happy with it, so I think that refund skill points option would be nice and more then useful.

As you probably noticed, main channel is getting spammed with selling, guild invites and with and dungeon groups, so my suggestion is why don’t we have several chat channels for a zone? Main, for casual chat related to events and the game, WTS/WTB channel and LFG channel for dungeons and guilds.

Of course, the problem remains because new players might have problems with getting into those channels, and it can be hard for them to keep track on three separate channels, so why not use hashtags instead? We just need a hashtag filter so we can filter what we want to see or not, and that’s it.

Also some form of Trading between players would be nice, in most cases I can’t sell anything on TP due to the taxes, so a trading option might come in handy. Also, some form of information about taxes and listing would be nice since people don’t realize that they are loosing money on TP because of its fees.

Another thing related to guilds. I love the fact that you can be in several guilds at a time, but why can’t you chat with multiple guilds? It’s kinda annoying for me to whisper my guildmates and say “Hey, can you represent?” just so he or she could join the guild chat.
That’s why I think multiple guild channels are needed, if I can’t represent a guild, at least I can see what my guildmates are talking about in the chatroom.

Again, there’s a question how will people manage to go through 3 or 4 guild channels, since it kinda confusing for some people to toggle back and forth, but this is when hashtags could come in handy. Each guild has its hashtag, and you could easily filter that hashtag from the main chat.

One last thing, guild armor. I don’t know why can’t we have a special Guild Emblem slot on our character and place our guild armor there, instead of using one type of armor? Just put it over your chest and include the “hide” option so you can easily hide it. It’s a lot better then transmuting my awesome armor into plan guild armor.

P.S. We could use more armor and weapon models.

I took leatherworking and huntsman on lvl 10, and this is when and I crafted all sorts of things, via discovery, however, now I’m lvl 54, and I need to go back to the lvl 20 zones to collect tier 2 crafting materials.

Since I have 100% completion in those zones, I just run around killing everything I see trying to get the mats that I need. I don’t even want to use TP, it cost about 1s to get the single material that I need, so that’s out of the question.

My question is, how to gather materials and craft properly so you can avoid backtracking and grinding for materials in zones that you’ve completed in order to level up your crafting?

Gathering materials and crafting

Mentalhead.5721

It’s not hard to remember which enemy drops what, but it’s annoying that you have to farm for better materials. For example Small Venom Sacks are easy to obtain, but items such as totems take forever to find, and the only alternative to grinding is using the Trading Post.

I only sold one pair of boots that I made, but as for the rest, no luck whatsoever.

Gathering materials and crafting

Mentalhead.5721

I have to say that I enjoy crafting in this game, especially with the bank and the fact that I don’t have to drag my materials back and forth to craft them.

However, why can’t we do the same for discovery? At times I often drag my entire bank into inventory in order to discover new stuff, and come up with nothing, so I just put them back in the bank. It get’s a bit tedious after a while.

Another problem that I have with crafting is collecting materials. Some better crafting materials such as small totem, small scale and similar have a low drop rate in my opinion, and often I stay in low-level zones (or visit other zone of similar level range) although I’ve completed the zone and I’m 10 levels ahead of it just so I can grind those materials in order to level up my crafting. I know, I can use Trading Post for materials, but so far those materials are expensive and it’s not worth of purchasing 8 totems for 10s, for example, to craft an item that is worth 2s.

That’s another problem, has anyone sold anything on TP that he made by crafting? I have, and it was just once. In my opinion the items that you craft are low quality and generic so nobody will buy them on TP, so in the end you’ll just salvage them or sell them to vendor.

In order to make better items and earn some money of crafting we need bigger diversity of items that we can craft, even on lower levels. We need more upgrades that we can discover, and add one or two of those upgrades to our crafts, or to the dropped items so we can give them extra stats and some uniqueness. This could make new and some fresh items with different stats, and those items could have a chance on being sold on Trading Post eventually.
