I highly doubt precursors prices dropping unless they either give the mystic toilet a better drop rate or provide better loot for the casual player. I have given in after 1500 hours and hundreds of rares/exotics in the forge; I finally gave in and began to farm CoF. It is far too hard to make good gold in this game, remove CoF, orr mat farming and the new daily chests then you tell me what is there left to farm in the game? How would you make gold? Merching blues/greens months on end?
What I mean is that it gives the illusion of making you rich. Yeah, 300 gold could get you pretty much any precursor some months ago. Now you’re looking at about twice that amount. Because everyone and their grandma thinks they can get rich by making fast money in CoF, which all it does is pump more money into the game. More money in the game = Wealthier player base = Higher precursor prices.
Not just that, but you basically support the current system as it is. If people would just stop running the treadmill of endless grind, maybe ArenaNet would get the hint that their current system is absolute garbage.
But since everyone’s jumping on the “zOMG must farm moneys 10h a day speedrunning CoF to buy meh legendaries lolz” bandwagon, ArenaNet will see no need to change anything and will happily introduce more insane grinds to the game to accommodate to the zombified player-base.
What is ironic is that if story modes are too easy, ppl end up farming them for 1 reason or another. Example is CM Story, it used to be suitable for a newcomer in terms of mob damage and length. Then ppl started farming CM story for what I believe to be a quick leveling route for alts. ANet then proceeded to buff the damage of the mobs within.
While they could have just put DR on the EXP rewards from it. Like they do with the decrease in dungeon token rewards when doing the same path twice or more on the same character.
Is it just non-sylvari who dislike Trahearne? In the Sylvari storyline, he shows up pretty early, offering advice and helping in later missions. I think the first time he’s introduced is in the second part of the personal storyline, but it might be earlier.
He just ends up flowing into the position of marshal, not stuffed into it.
And I like him better than Caithe. If you guys think Trahearne’s depressing, you should see Caithe…
The problem is that he’s not an interesting or fun character and that he takes up too much of the personal story. I doubt a lot of people would’ve had issues with him if he were there for just a few missions and then got killed off or left the story like so many other characters do. Instead he hi-jacks the story at around level 40, and doesn’t leave, even after beating Zhaitan.
It’s totally OK for a story to have likeable and dislikeable characters. What’s not OK is to take away all the fun characters and force the player to be with this same boring guy for over half of the full story.
I didn’t find Caithe to be very likeable at times, but at least she doesn’t appear in about every friggin’ mission for over half of my personal story.
I want either more variety in the people in my personal story, or have a more interesting and fun guy hanging out with me throughout the majority of my story missions.

It is probably the COF1 farmers who drive the price of legendaries so high, out of the price range of players who don’t farm COF1 with speed runs.
That’s right.
People complain about precursors being too expensive, but then they proceed making the situation only worse by pumping huge amounts of money into the game by speedclearing the same dungeon over again.
Well, as soon as ArenaNet nerfs this amount of income, you’ll see the prices of precursors dropping. Assuming speedrunners don’t find the next thing that makes as much as CoF did.
Where’s the -1 button?
Just got stuck on path 2 at the part with fixing the cannons. The NPC won’t move. And yeah, my team did skip the enemies in the previous rooms.
I guess with the frequency of this path breaking, it’s not worth doing at all. Maybe if it was a 1 in 1000 chance or so, it wouldn’t be so bad. But as it stands it happens too often to risk doing it.
Actually we did get it fixed by making the NPC die to some mobs then res her. Took a while, though… Then the Ghost Eater bugged by not moving from its spot after we lured it to one of the traps.

I don’t mind Orr.
I know obviously on guild wars it reduces your level to the appropriate one of each area you go to, so does it do that with Dungeons? Like even though I’m a higher level can I go back to other ones?
Yeah, you can. Some of the lower level dungeons are even tougher than higher level dungeons.=P
I’m probably the poorest player in the game. Have played over 1000 hours, 100 gold in bank, maybe around 15 gold spread on my characters. Probably close to 100 gold in gear on my characters. 1 stack of Ectos, and a bunch of non-250 stacks of crafting materials.
No precursors, no legendaries, no epic glowy things.
I’d rather take a newbie in full non-MF rares (for the reason that he can’t afford exotics yet) over a skilled player in MF exotics.
At least the newbie has potential to become an amazing player, and a credit to team, whereas the player wearing MF is better off playing solo since he’s only in it for his own selfish goals.
The common wisdom is gold find in dungeons and magic find in PvE open world / Orr. There’s no reason to break that rule since you’re skipping most mobs in dungeons anyways. All the good loots drop from chests which isn’t affect by magic find.
If only that would stop people from bringing useless MF gear into dungeon parties…
What’s the point in leaderboards when I can’t look up my own account in it?
I don’t care much for leaderboards, but I’d at least like to see what rank I’m at.
At the risk of opening that can of worms, can anyone remind me why there shouldnt be a gear-check?
Without MF there shouldn’t be need for one.
But since MF is part of the game, I could agree that there should be a gear check for those who want it. I sure as hell don’t want a leeching MF’er in my dungeon party, but without asking everyone to link their gear in chat (which I’ll never do) there’s no way to tell.
I’ll never understand why ArenaNet supports selfish gameplay in an organised group setting. If it were up to me I’d either:
-Remove MF from the game.
-Disallow players to equip any MF in dungeon instances.
-Disable the bonuses of MF in dungeon instances.
-Share MF bonuses to everyone in the same party (non-stacking).
-Have a way for players to easily identify players who use MF.
I love it when people play an MMO and do dungeons then claim GW1 wasn’t an MMO.
Why?
In GW2, dungeons are five person instances.
In GW1, they were EIGHT person instances.Newsflash: If you’re playing instanced content, you’re not playing an MMO.
GW1 = besides towns it’s 100% instances
GW2 = all open world, except dungeons
By your logic Starcraft II isn’t a strategy game because it has a shooting mini-game.
Stopped reading after you called non guild mates as the degrading name “pugs”, pot meet kettle
Do you even know what a PUG is?
There is zero room for error if you run a DPS build, and even with condition removal I’ve seen whole parties wipe there. Good parties. Parties that have breezed through the rest of the dungeon because there’s synergy and good tactics among its members.
That’s because DPS builds sacrifice survival for more damage. You chose to sacrifice survival, so learn to deal with it. If you want to live, either get better at the game, or spend points on defensive stats.
Good parties don’t wipe on the Spider Queen. Only bad and (some) mediocre parties do. A good party knows how to stay alive against an enemy that only has 2 attacks.
I myself frequently do COF speed runs, which require at least reasonable competence. We’re not dumb or inexperienced, the fight just punishes us for no good reason. There has to be SOME breathing room. I can’t imagine what inexperienced groups go through.
There’s your problem. CoF speedruns don’t require much skill. There’s a reason every one and their grandma runs CoF: it’s because it’s the fastest and easiest thing out there. It requires the least amount of skill to run.
You are dumb for thinking you can survive standing in the red circles while wearing DPS gear. You do not get punished for no good reason: the red circles clearly indicate danger, so don’t stand in them.
It’s only… 8 runs for 500 tokens that’s required for the legendary anyway. Any half decent PUG should suffice for a successful AC run, regardless of class set-up.
I’ll do more dynamic events around my level area. But how do I teleport to other start areas?
There’s an asura gate in Rata Sum that you can use to travel to Lion’s Arch. Or open the PvP tab to travel to PvP, and from there enter the portal to Lion’s Arch.
In Lion’s Arch there’s portals to all 5 race’s main cities, so you can do the starter zones over there if you like to. It’s nice to do for more variety.
If you have any advice on how to not get slapped with copyright cases I’d love to hear it!
There’s plenty of music that doesn’t have copyrights on it. Just don’t use anything from popular artists. I like to use anime or remixed game music in my videos, and never had issues with copyright.
You could always play some random Guild Wars 2 music over your videos, sounds nice, and is better than complete silence.=p
I never knew turning off the lasers was mandatory. That’s kind of strange, you’d guess turning off the lasers would be just a convenience thing to help the 2 lowest skilled jumpers get past it.
Impressive to completely solo that Alpha guy. I guess Thief’s probably the best choice for doing so since they get the most teleports?
You’ve not done the Simin fight. That’s closer to impossible. Much, much closer.
I’d rather fight 2 Lupicus’s at the same time than 1 Simin.xD
My guess would be it’s because charr lack the eyecandy that people like (guys like to see boobs on their characters), so people will go with whatever’s coolest instead. Charr males look fiercer than the females, and are therefore ‘cooler’, hence the big difference between male and female charr players.
I personally went for both male and female charr characters. I like them pretty equally. My male charr is cooler, my female charr is somewhat cute.
I like playing human in games. Also like the style of humans in Guild Wars 2 with their buildings, main city, cultural gear and weapons, their background lore and their belief in the six gods.
I dislike most of them, but my favourites would be:
-Sunrise, because I like big swords.xD
-Bolt would have been my favourite if I could wield it on my Elementalist… because I love lightning.
-Kudzu looks fairly nice.
-Kamohoali’i Kotaki is pretty cool for an underwater weapon.
So? If you can beat everything in the game without it, why do you need it? This is where it’s in your head. You’re so competitive in your thought process, that you must have this higher number, but in reality it translates to a second or two per kill. Maybe. If that.
Why does it matter whether I can beat everything in the game or not? (even though I cannot, because the Jade Maw flat out kills me if I lack the Agony resist)
The topic is about need vs want.
When it comes to obtaining maximum battle performance it clearly points towards there being a need to have Ascended items, not a want.
Because you thing stats are “the” way to progress, you think that you need these items. I don’t see stats as “the” way to progress, so I don’t. I’m quite happy to play my characters that don’t have any ascended gear at all.
I need these items to gain the best performance my character can possibly get. Fact
You can deny the extra stats all you kitten well want, but at the end of the day, having these items still boosts one’s combat performance.
I don’t want these items, because I hate grindy gear progression, but I need to have them in order to have maximum battle performance.
I don’t have any lag.=s
-I’m fairly content with the skill system, although having more is always nice. I do hope we get some different weapon skills some time that we can choose from. It would give some more variety without the need to introduce new weapons.
-Gear progression up to Exotics was fine. Ascended can go to hell for all I care. I hate any gear progression that involves a lot of grind, and Ascended is just that.
-Zone progression is nice, I guess? I like most of the zones in the game.
Probably about 6-7%.
And you can have that extra 3-4% if you’re willing to give up your runes. Runes alone can give you +165 power, about as much as you’ll get from your ascended gear.
Wrong.
If you compare Ascended trinkets you’ll notice they are about 10% better than Exotics. So why should we assume that armour and weapons are going to give a much lesser boost over Exotics than the trinkets do?
On top of having ~10% higher stats, the armour bonus and damage bonus will be increased as well (something that trinkets don’t do).
If I give up my runes to make up for the loss in Power I’d lose group support (using Dwayna).
On the topic of need vs. want:
-You don’t need to play the game, but you want to.
-You don’t need to level up in the game, but you want to.
-You don’t need to move your character, but you want to.
-You don’t need to get gear for your characters, but you want to.
-You don’t need to kill things ingame, but you want to.
-You don’t need to do events, but you want to.
-You don’t need to pick up loot, but you want to.
List could go on and on. In the end, nothing you do really needs to be done. You only do it because you want to.

I’ve played over 1000 hours and never had a precursor drop for me.
But apparently it’s possible to get it dropped from a random mob or dungeon chest.
There’s also some professions that can just use teleport to easily pass the boulders (Elementalists, Thiefs, Mesmers if not using Portal (lol)).
I’ll only answer #2: Thief is very much possible in PvE. It plays very well in any general PvE situation (from exploring, to events, to dungeons). I haven’t played much dual pistols because I find that weapon set pretty boring, but I’m sure they’d work. For parties I’ve never been kicked for playing a Thief.
As the others have said-
if it is between Necro and Mesmer- go Mesmer, they are awesome fun and very tricky and slippery.
I would suggest dagger/ dagger Elementalist though. They are so fast they make your head spin and they are melee death on wheels
Pretty much this.=P
In my opinion:
I’m going to leave out PvP, as I barely played any of it. Haven’t played much of WvWvW either, so…
General PvE solo
If you want something easy to play, take a class like Warrior, Guardian or Ranger. I’ve levelled a Guardian to 80, and he was able to face-tank multiple mobs and mow them down without problems using Greatsword. Warrior same story, but with less face-tanking multiple mobs but with faster kills.
Dungeons
I have 3 level 80’s (Elementalist, Guardian and Thief), and I find them to be all pretty equal when it comes to dungeons. However, Elementalist is my favourite.
WvWvW
Haven’t played much of it, but the few times I did I found my Elementalist more fun to play there than my Guardian (Guardian lacks long-range abilities).
PvE Fun-factor
Dual-dagger Elementalist wins for sure. That is, if you like a hyper-active playstyle that requires dodging a lot and continuously swapping elements. Thief is pretty fun too since they get a lot of dodges, and have great mobility. Have played some Mesmer, and is pretty fun so far, but not high enough level to really judge well. While Guardian is easy to play, it’s one of my least favourite classes when it comes to fun-factor. I guess it depends on what playstyle you like. For an active playstyle I’d definetely go with melee Elementalist or Thief.
When you take into account every character’s base stats, the increase from ascended gear (over exotic) is even less significant.
Just using the power attribute as an example and only berserker’s armour and jewellery:
Exotic items give about 1692 power (916 base + 776 exotics)
Ascended items give about 1749 power (916 base + 833 ascended)(1749/1692)*100 = 103.36%
Full ascended gear gives less than 4% increase in power over exotic gear.
Then factor in huge potential gains in +power from trait points and food etc. and the difference between exotic and ascended gear becomes even less significant.
And what’s the difference going to be when the full Ascended armour and weapon set comes out? When just the jewelry gives ‘only’ a 4% difference, imagine how much difference a full set of Ascended is going to make once it releases.
XD ….I love how people mock me
I KNOW HOW TO PLAY ELE …
HE asked for easiest solo PvE ….
Is Elementalist EASIEST CLASS TO PLAY o.O ?IMO it is WARRIOR … am I wrong … ?
You are wrong, because what he asked is what is the best class to play solo if playing skilfully <— keyword right there
He never stated he was looking for the easiest class to play solo with.
Best does not equal easiest, especially not if skill comes into play.
Therefore, it doesn’t matter what class you play as, as long as you play skilfully you will be able to breeze to any non-group content like a boss on any profession.
If played with skill, any class will do, but some classes require more skill to play than others.
If you lack skill, consider playing a Guardian, Warrior or a Ranger. Those are 3 very easy classes to solo with.
Elementalist – PvE TORTURE kitten you even get two shoted when you’re lvl 80 in lvl 10 zone -.-"
Elementalist can easily solo any PvE area, you just need to know how to play one. Though, Elementalist is probably the class with the highest demand of skill if you want decent results.
(edited by Milennin.4825)
I can team up with you to do this one if you want, if you play on EU servers.
I found it to be a pretty fun mission. It wants you to focus on a balance between doing enough damage, while at the same time focus on staying alive. If you have a problem with knock downs, consider bringing utility that grant stability, or stun breakers.
What class do you play?
Also, make sure your gear is somewhat up to date. If you’re level 10, you can buy cheap level 10 armour from the armorsmiths. If your crafting is high enough you could make your own armour/weapons that should be better than what NPC’s sell.
On the topic of crafting, gathering materials and using them in crafting is a good way to level up too.
If you have up to date gear, and still die a lot, make sure you:
-Don’t fight monsters that are higher level than you are.
-Don’t fight veterans / champion monsters (veterans have a silver outline, champions have gold outline).
-Use your dodges.
-Use your healing skill.
-Check what utility skills you have unlocked that could help you stay alive.
-Examine your weapon skills. Know what they do, and use them wisely.
How do you get there solo, though? Is it possible to just run all the way to Lupicus? Never really been in parties that skipped huge amounts of mobs in there…
Anyone have any input on this?
My friends are casuals for the most part and probably aren’t as interested in watching or doing this as I am, so I’d rather solo it and not waste their time if it’s possible.Path 2 can be soloed, first 2 bosses are easy. Hardest mob in there apart from Lupi is the Hunter before lupi lol.
Yes i got there by soloing path 2, after practice it only takes an hour to get there solo. If you’re in NA I’m willing to help you get there while you learn what you need to do.
Thanks, looking forward to trying this some time. This video inspires me, lol.=P
Also, congrats on achieving the kill. Forgot that in my first post.
Yeah, some bosses like to target me full-time and all the time too for no apparent reason. It’s really frustrating. Although I’ve seen bosses target other players throughout the whole fight too, and it gets very boring, very fast just sitting there spamming DPS while nothing happens to me.
It’s just one of those boss design flaws that must go away. Give bosses more AoE abilities. Force bosses to change targets after a few attacks, or after some amount of time.
Magic Find doesn’t belong in this game.
If you don’t like levelling, chances are you won’t like being max level either, as you won’t be doing much different at max level than you do while levelling.
What I do with levelling is exploring the zones, doing my personal story, gather materials and use them for crafting. Also I join dungeon groups sometimes. Got my Thief to level 80 in no-time.
The problem with Ascended is that they’re still about 10% better than Exotic. Right now that may not be a big problem, as it’s only bound to jewelry. This is going to be a big problem when the full set comes out. A 10% increase on both offence and defence is pretty significant.
Having a lot of Vitality is nice, but all it does is protect you from burst damage. You get hit hard if you don’t put points in toughness, and will make you burn through that Vitality quickly. Also, the higher your HP, the less useful your heals become.
Toughness is useless against condition damage and large burst damage, but it lowers the amount of damage taken. It works pretty well if you’re big on healing or regen’ing your health.
I prefer Toughness over Vitality, but a combination of both is best.
You should be able to work in game and make enough money to facilitate involvement in other aspects of the game but, it appears that this cannot be easily done in GW2.
-Explore the world.
-Do events.
-Do dungeons.
-Gather materials and sell them.
All these basic things should earn you enough money to fund travel and repair costs + keep extras.
How can you have money problems when almost everything you do gives you money?
I have never converted gems into gold, I don’t farm, and I never run into money issues.
Why were you taking screenshots halfway through? It just seems a bit odd to me. I can understand taking some nice shots, but the one you took didnt appear to be that kind of picture.
Maybe because he got the feeling a kick was coming by reading the chat?
I occasionally take a screenshot at random times during a dungeon when I feel there’s a chance for a kick to happen (usually in guild groups, when a player has a friend in the group, when I tell someone to learn to play, when someone freaks out, when there’s chat hints towards a potential player kick, etc.). Even though it’s never happened to me before, I’ve seen enough of these topics to know to take precautions.
I recently got level 80 on my Thief and went for mostly Carrion with some Knight pieces.
1 Steal Loot from Bosses.
