Thanks a lot for the reply.
I have a friend who’s interested in playing Guild Wars 2 with me, but he lives in NA, while I live in EU and play on an EU server. Is it possible for him to set his location to the EU servers when he creates his account so we can play together? And if so, will he be able to play just fine, or would there be a lot of lag for him since he’s all the way in NA?
Was there a reason they nerfed the rewards?
There always used to be a bunch of groups looking for people, and finding a team never took much time unless you played during night time or were looking for something specific. But now there’s hardly grouping anymore in the LFP window. Is everyone busy playing the expansion, or what happened?
Well, I tried my old playlists that worked for years, and tried new ones, and neither of them are working. And yes, they are in the correct location. They worked just fine the last time I played, like 6 months ago. I just updated the game earlier and all I get is default game music playing.
It’s been some months since I last played, but was there an update that broke custom playlists? I’ve had one since beta and this is the first time I can’t seem to getting them to work. Any help?
-Chaos. I love it when there isn’t a set routine, or super specific strategy required to beat something. Just make a boss fight chaotic with stuff happening all over the place (Molten Alliance Facility bosses were great).
-Bosses that have both AoE as well as single-target attacks. Gives people time to maybe res a downed teammate, but also prevents a boss from constantly bullying one single player all the time (Gigantics Lupicus minus the constant focus on one player). Also, if the boss is going to focus on a teammember, make it random instead of binding it to a specific stat or whatever.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I already have the core game, but I haven’t really played much the last year and haven’t kept up with the news a lot. I remember Guild Wars 1 expansions being pretty much full-fledged games that could be played as games on their own with their own huge story and a lot of areas and missions, making them absolutely worth the price tag.
Now my question is, is Heart of Thorns expansion going to be similar in that respect? Can I expect access to at least 10+ new, unique areas and a storyline that’s on par with the core game? What about dungeons? —- Or am I better off waiting for a price drop?
So, before I used to play Guild Wars 1, and one thing I always hated about playing the Elementalist was having to stand still to cast Attunements before entering battle in order to upkeep my energy.
Then Guild Wars 2 came out, and with its huge upgrade to mobility in combat, I could finally play an Elementalist that could jump right into battle without rooting itself before every encounter just to get by.
These days Elementalist seem to have been reduced to little more than Might stack
slaves. If you don’t stack Might before a battle you’re a bad Elementalist and you and your team heavily suffers for it. So, basically the Elementalist is back to square one, except there’s even more buttons to press while we stand in place just to get our class working optimally.
Sad Elementalist is sad.
Hella easy with that list to choose from. Just go get yourself some of those Protector/Guardian/Vanquisher/Cartographer titles. Also, Lightbringer is easy.
Okay, so it’s something you do once every few strikes, and not something you can constantly do with every attack. Thanks.
So I was reading the Thief’s guide on Dulfy.net which states that if you want higher DPS with the Thief’s dagger auto-attack you should break the attack chain. How does this work?
I used to run speed runs with 2 friends when I was farming for the second legendary. We would kick people for not pinging right gear or going to wrong stack. Yes puging speed runs makes you become a toxic player.
That’s why I don’t speedrun.
The 2 most toxic communities are spvp and dungeon.
You must not play a lot of dungeons then, or choose your parties poorly. I play dungeons on a daily basis, and my experience with dungeon parties is anything between decent to good on average.
Anything not silly, stupid or “funny” looking. No more disco-ball maces and pony bows, please.
What I would like to see most are daggers with an effect similar to Bolt’s lightning sparks. I love lightning, but I barely use sword on any of my characters.

I’d like to go into a different direction and request skinny human models with smaller breasts. The only “flat” one (although not really) in the game has a buggy waist that causes absurd armor scaling.
Agreed, but do so for norn as well. I want to create a female norn without huge breasts.
I dislike the Living Story because it moves on if I don’t bother to check it out, and for that reason I have now missed a large part of it, and will not be able to see what happened at the end of season 1, and season 2 is locked behind a pay wall.
I know many people crap on RuneScape for it being a sucky game (and it is), but at least it’ll let me play through its quests whenever I want to, even if I haven’t logged in for the last 10 years.
I just want to experience the Living Story at my own pace. If I stop playing GW2 for whatever reason I want to be able to get back into the story when I return to it.
The more account-bound stuff we get, the better.
Before I waste my resources, do I get to choose what stats I get if I craft a Prototype Fractal Capacitor (Ascended) in the Mystic Forge? Because the Wiki says it has 4 different available stats…
Never bought or used any.
World of Warcraft has terrible armour and weapon design, though.
If you play in random parties, never join those that set requirements (such as having to wear Berserker gear, being experienced, certain amount of AP (even if you do meet the reqs)).
I play in parties without requirements all the time, and have plenty of times people with AP ranging from 500 to 10K+ in a single party, yet no one is ever being made fun of. Even if they’re dying a lot or just stay in the backrow the majority of the time.
So, I always look for LFG postings that specify ‘all welcome’ and then whisper the group to make sure they understand my ‘issues’ with dungeon running.
These are always the best kind of parties. Instant-join for me.

I really do miss the Beta Login screen. I’ll never get used to the stupid, ugly launcher they’ve been using since release.
Lol no.
(15 characters)
Throwing knives / Kunai for Thief?
No. The more people needed for content, the harder it is to find groups for it.
The npcs are ok , the problem now is that they try to “exploit” everything in dungeons and not doing things like are supposed to do
The reason people exploit is because the NPCs are unreliable (and slow too).
I’ve had times our party wiped at AC path 3’s final boss because the NPC didn’t bother to follow us. That stuff needs to go and they either need to get their act together and 100% fix these NPCs or come up with another solution for dungeon scenarios.
Yeah, it was one of the least played dungeon paths because the final boss was insane (impossible) if you were thinking of taking it on regularly, and they never bothered to fix that… That’s just lame-sauce.
I know that it got replaced by the Aetherblade path, but why was it removed in the first place? I liked playing it, but now it’s gone forever?
In Guild Wars 1 the dyes weren’t even that. They were one buy one use. Did Nexon do that too?
Guild Wars 1’s philosophy has always been grinding for cosmetics. They also never promised account-bound dye unlocks pre-launch. Come again?
Why would you replace drops with coins? I salvage everything.
Only bank slots, and potentially some inventory slots may be worth buying. If you want Transmutation Stones, just 100% explore some areas to get them.
I have one character with full Berserker gear and a few with more defensive/balanced gear, and I got to say, full Berserker gear is always better than defensive/balanced for general PvE content (dungeons).
I like to solo dungeons, and doing so with a defensive/balanced set is incredibly tedious and slow. When I switch to my character with full Berserker gear, everything goes down so much quicker, the difference is insanely huge. Sure, you’re not allowed to make as many mistakes, but if people in Berserker gear are constantly dying, it’s clearly a learn 2 play issue.
The other problem with Berserker gear, and the reason why it’s so popular is that if your entire party consists of people wearing Berserker gear is that you can kill bosses so fast, they barely get the time to do their thing. This way you can mitigate the learn 2 play issue with bad players wearing Berserker gear, and is also the reason why people in defensive/balanced gear are dragging down the rest of the dungeon team so much.
That said, I still rather join a team of people wearing defensive/balanced gear who know how to have fun than a speedrun-obsessed party wearing full Berserker gear.
what is OTT?
why people using this briviations?
OTT = Over the top.
Had to abbreviate, otherwise it wouldn’t fit in the title…
1,864 hours over the past 898 days.
0 from forge, 0 from drops.
Oh, I don’t know… character bound dyes, RNG boxes, gear grind.
And before you say dyes are account bound now. Yes, I know. Only 1+ year after launch and after they broke their promise made in their pre-launch blog post. Little late with that. They probably had a good reason to make them account bound: incentivise collecting all dyes for your account, buy all the dye packs in store NAO!
Nexon has been influencing design decisions in Guild Wars 2 since launch. It’s pretty obvious if you look at all the things that are bad about Guild Wars 2, the majority can be blamed on what Nexon would have done.
It’ll only get worse once they are given more power.
The new rewards do not help as well. Simpley put. They messed up big time and most people want it to go back to how it was.
Actually I don’t have a problem with the new rewards. I’ve had some nice things from story rewards so far.
How is it less confusing? I just arrived in Fort Trinity and the next thing I’m doing is cleansing Orr. What happened to the whole invasion?
Cleansing of Orr done at level 70? …………………………………………………what? Finished at level 72, now I need to go 8 more levels until I need to play the next mission, and that one was previously played way before the Cleansing of Orr mission. WTH happened to the Personal Story?
Legendaries have the same stats as ascended, so you’re saying ascende is “regular” gear?
Yes, it is. It is just way too grindy to obtain.
…Now one month into game release, people had their exotic armor and began to complain about having nothing to work towards….
…PS LOL at 5 Days being far too long for you to have to put up with in order to get the absolute best weapons in the game. Big L O freaking L….
Sorry I’m not here to work. Working is what I do to earn money in the real world, playing games for fun is something I do in my free time. I’d like to consider Guild Wars 2 as spending my free time, not as a second job. Having to grind weeks to get materials and money to outfit one of my eight characters with gear is like work. It’s not fun.
Hey,
I recently came back to the game after a long break, and I’m interested in joining a guild so my chat isn’t dead all the time and making it easier to join fun groups for dungeon runs.
What I’m looking for in a guild:
-EU and PvE-focused. I play on Gandara, but I believe server doesn’t matter any longer with the server update?
-Likes doing dungeons and prioritises fun over speed. Not setting requirements to join runs, other than meeting the minimum level.
-Would prefer a somewhat smaller guild (~100 at most) with a decent number of regular, active people.
A bit about me and what I can offer:
I currently have five level 80 characters. I mostly play Thief and Mesmer, but also enjoy playing my Elementalist and Guardian (he’s my Fractals guy) from time to time. I’m slowly working on getting my other 3 characters up to level 80, with my Ranger at level 70 right now.
Doing dungeons is what I enjoy most in Guild Wars 2; unfortunately most groups expect you to know every little thing, run specific gear/builds etc, resulting in boring, quiet runs that are the same every time. I love groups that like a bit of chaos and can laugh away a wipe because we screwed up somewhere.
I know my way in most dungeons, but it’s been a while since I played some of them, and I’m not familiar with any of the new stuff (haven’t played the Aetherblade dungeon in Twilight Arbor yet).
I’m a fairly active player and should be online on a daily basis. I’m also willing to help out people with their personal story, dungeons runs, general advice if I know the answer.
I just got one myself. My server has the area captured, so it was just a 2 minute walk to it and charm the wolf.
If OP thinks ascended crafting is bad, I can’t wait to see his post when Anet releases the process for obtaining a precursor.
The thing is that precursors only count for Legendary weapons, which do not grant players an advantage over regular gear, so as long as they don’t make Legendaries more powerful than anything else, I don’t really care what’s going to happen to precursor crafting.
I know this is old (inb4 old news is old), but I recently came back to Guild Wars 2 after a long break and discovered how much of a grind Ascended gear is, and feel like writing a rant (deal with it).
It takes me 5 days to craft one Ascended weapon!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? And that’s assuming I already have all the materials required. Oh, but it only costs 500 of this and that and that. Yeah, that’s only 3 weeks of grinding dungeons, bosses, events and what else you got. For one weapon. Are you kidding me!?
So, if I have one character that uses like 6 weapons, it takes me at minimum a full month to craft all his stuff. But that’s without taking in account the time it takes to grind the Gold and the 1000s of Dragonite Ores and Empyreal Fragments required to craft them. And that’s only for one character that only uses 6 weapons. Then what about my other 4 guys, that use 6+ weapons each? I’m not even going to do the math for that.
And what if I’d like to change my character’s build at one point… what if I get bored of a certain playstyle and want to try something else without sacrificing my stats? Tough ****ing luck because you’ll have to grind another 3 months just to get your single character fully equipped again (that’s even ignoring the ridiculous amount of Transmutation Stones required if I’d want to keep my old look).
And before anyone says you don’t need Ascended gear: YOU ARE WRONG. Of course you need Ascended gear, why else is it there? Why else have they have given it better stats than Exotic gear? By that logic we would not need any gear at all since people can solo dungeons not wearing any armour whatsoever. Like, durr, why do we need any armour in GW2 at all when we can clear content in our underwear?
Whichever gear gives the best stats is what we NEED.
“But you get all the stuff you need while playing the game, no grind required.” Again: WRONG. What if I like playing dungeons? That doesn’t give me any Dragonite Ore (seriously, who came up with that name, anyway?) What if I don’t like world bosses? They’re just one giant lag fest making me feel like I’m watching a Powerpoint slideshow and don’t offer any satisfying gameplay since it’s just “stand in 1 place with the 100 other peoples and auto-attack away”.
So, I need to do 20 hours of world bosses for a single Ascended weapon. And you call that no grind. LOL!?!?
What exactly happened to this no-grind philosophy? Why wasn’t Exotic gear good enough as a final tier of gear? It’s not like people were unable to clear any content with Exotics anyway. Ascended serves no logical purpose other than to **** off those people who don’t have the time to play 28 hours a day, 450 days a year.
Thanks, I got it.
I bought an Outfit in the Gemstore for my Asura a long time ago, around GW2’s first Halloween event I think. Don’t remember what it was called, but it came with a broomstick and a spooky looking hood (is it the Witch outfit?). I took a long break from the game, and recently returned again, but my character’s Outfit is gone. I’ve checked my inventory, bank and wardrobe, but it’s not there.
Any chance it could get returned to me?
My opinion on the grind in Guild Wars 2:
Ascended sucks and should have never been added to the game. There, I said it.
It started with the release of Fractals and the huge, slow grind for Ascended trinkets. Then came Ascended crafting and it only got worse. I need to wait 12 hours to craft this item I already got all the materials for? You what-!?!? And I need 5 of them per item, so it’s going to take me weeks just to craft a few weapons for only one of my characters (and I currently have 4 level 80s that I’d like to play that I’d want every available weapon for). And that’s ignoring the ridiculous high costs to even get the materials in the first place. What were they thinking!?
Ascended was a waste of development time and doesn’t do anything to improve the game. They should have stuck to alternative skins for Exotic gear.
Guild Wars 1 did it best with low cost for getting the best gear, then pay extra to get nicer skins.

Completely agree. I generally will take the LFG that doesn’t have set requirements or is fine with taking anyone at the minimum level, because it results in runs that are more fun, even if they do tend to be a lot slower.
Also, I think it does help you in becoming a better player. While a full coordinated run with all level 80s in Ascended Berserker gear is always the exact same run, going in with a bunch of level 40s, 50s, etc in bad gear and possibly little to no experience with the dungeon will test your skills in ways you wouldn’t necessarily expect. From dealing with new people and teaching them the tricks, to protecting lower levels from going down all the time and helping them res up mid battle while not being in the corner with everyone else, to killing bosses with low party DPS and having to survive their mechanics instead of spiking them down in a matter of seconds.
