That’d be great if your being there actually meant something. One of the great advantages of having your own instance (ala GW1) is that successes and failures are based solely on you and your team.

So basically you want to play a single/co-op game.
Now tell me. Why did you buy an MMO?

You mean dumbing down the game…yeah thats progress. There are no roles just DPS now how interesting /yawn. Hope you don’t get focused fired…cuz you’ll die and get revived /yawn. See your buddy getting destroyed? Watch him die and revive him /yawn.

Like any sports team everyone should have a role and strengths and weaknesses. It makes coordination, team composition, and strategy necessarily which creates a challenge and makes the game interesting.

Not sure what anet was thinking. Hope no one ever follows there example To be fair I have always thought having “one” tank was ridiculous….but now there should be specializations and support roles and hybrids to fill the gaps. Not just DPSers.

I take it. All you have done is zerging DE’s?

Honestly the term horizontal progression doesn’t even make sense. You’re NOT progressing. Why are you so against giving the people who enjoy working towards something more difficult (and I don’t mean through getting better gear) something to do. GW1 (which was advertised as more of a PvP game than GW2), had a far better end game than GW2, which is sad.

So why is it so bad that people want dungeons that progressively get more challenging, instead of the current mess we have where dungeons just seem randomly thrown together? And why can’t I have raids? Let the gear requirement stay the same, but a 10 man instance in this game seems like it would be amazingly fun. And why can’t I have DEs that actually LEAD TO SOMETHING? All those things could be in the game and you can still run around like akitten harvesting pumpkins and “horizontally progressing.”

Well I think GW2’s endgame is better than GW1’s which was just playing the same content but against buffed enemies, and which you could basically afk and let your heroes do it for you if you used the right builds.
Or waiting for that PUG that never comes cause everyone only does speed clears in the elite areas.

I don’t understand why dungeons have to become progressively harder? Or how that would make them more fun?
There is no raids, because ArenaNet decided on having a 5-man party would be the best to create balanced challenging content for.
I don’t know what you mean by DE’s having to lead to something? They already do…

Explain why Anet decided to put levels in the game, as well as gear rarity or gear stats that increase with levels, or why traits/skills are tiered/locked. It’s simple, progression and achieving upgrades feels good. Exploring is great and all but so is progression, and having both = Why RPG’s rock. This is why leveling up a char by 100%’ing zones (like I am) will always be more fun than doing so at 80.

Levels aren’t there for just progression reasons.
They’re also tools to set the pacing of a game. Which why you don’t use utilities before level 5, so players get time to get used to weapon skills before diving into utilities. Same goes for weapon-swapping.
Utilities are tiered to prevent overload of choice on players. Having to choose from 30 skills is pretty intimidating to a lot of players. Limiting it to 10 per tier is much more do-able.
Traits are tiered because without tiers everyone would pump in 10 points in all the lines and pick out the best traits in each line.

And “explorers” being “hostile” on these forums might have to do with the fact that we finally have a game that focuses so much more on horizontal progression at endgame, rather than vertically like most games do. There’s like 1000’s of MMO’s with steep vertical progression, can’t we just have 1 game with more horizontal progression?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Milennin.4825

Milennin.4825

I don’t understand why they don’t let people pick the stats when buying a dungeon piece. The current way pieces are sold is so impractical and just clutters the vendor interface.
If it sold just the skin, then players would be able to pick one free stat choice for their set (based on the insignias used in crafting). First time only, of course.

1. Then people would be forced to run one dungeon, before being able to get to the next one. If I wanted the gear given by the dungeon at the end of the chain I’d be forced to first go through 7 other dungeons I might not be interested in doing. That’s not fun. It’s annoying.

2. No server broadcasts… EVER.

No, we don’t need some sort of gear progression.
YOU need some sort of gear progression, and you’re playing the wrong game.

The dungeons are fine in difficulty. If you want to play the harder paths, get friends or join a guild that runs dungeons for the challenge.

You aren’t playing it right if you feel there isn’t much ways for your improvements to matter if all you think is gear. Your improvements will matter if you’d focus more on your own playing skills.

Needless to say, bashing on a thing for 20 minutes auto-attack only ain’t much fun. Maybe if they lowered his HP to half of what it’s now, or make him a silver mob it would’ve been better…

I also feel extremely sorry for any party that attempted this boss, got him down to 3/4 or less HP then party wiped and had him reset health.

LFP tool

in Suggestions

Posted by: Milennin.4825

Milennin.4825

Seriously, a LFP tool would be a great improvement.
The current way to find parties for things is extremely limited and annoying (especially with the spam filter that blocks messages after a few times).
If only we had a tool similar to the one that was in Guild Wars 1. A window you can open, select what type of content you want a team for, and be able to write a line for more details on what you are looking to do.
This would save time writing LFP messages in chat.
It would free up chat from those LFP messages.

Another thing is the LFP status (the one you can set via friends list). It’s nice and all, but without people having any idea what you are LFP’ing for it has no real use. It needs to allow people to write a line what they are LFP’ing for, and have that show under their name when you select them (where title currently goes).

Is death penalty working? I’ve done many personal story missions and a lot of times i ended up naked but still manage to finish it. There is a message that I have DP but i never noticed my HP getting lowered because of DP.

Death penalty means you start with less HP next time you get downed. If you got downed 3 times within a minute, the next time you are instantly defeated.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Milennin.4825

Thing is… how do you make an open world boss difficult without resorting to cheap shots (dodge the 5 zone-wide circles within 1/4 second or get 1 hit defeated) or make it in a way that only an organised party (like a guild on voicechat) can take them out?
When you have 50 random people in a place, it’s almost impossible to do so. The problem is also that it’s too many people in one place to make things clear on WTH exactly is going on.
I guess the best thing for these events are to force the groups to split up into smaller groups. Like to be forced to defend/attack several points at the same time or else the event will fail.

Unfortunately it was to be expected, and there isn’t much to be done about it.
People will always go for the easiest way to do things. A few weeks or months from now all the easy paths will have been discovered, and those paths will be the only thing people will ever be running.

The best solution to this might be for ArenaNet to buff the popular paths so much in difficulty that they’re at least on par or harder than the other 2 paths, or maybe nerfing the other 2 paths a little to make them more attractive.
Of course then people would find the next favourite path to go, so it’d be an endless cycle of ArenaNet buffing and nerfing paths every month or so to force people to do something else.

Who did you create these dungeons for anet?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Milennin.4825

Milennin.4825

I dont understand how people can find the dungeons here easy. What have you been playing before this that was actually comparable to these dungeons?

In all seriousness i’ve raided end game content that was easier.

THe problem with these dungeons is that there is NO introduction, the abilities of the bosses are way to hard to grasp unless you are being walked through them or know them allready. The guys saying oh lolz this is easy, not its not. Its hard, uts unrewarding and its ruining the fun of the game. YOu alrleady know the dungeon, ehck you most likely found the best spec for your class online and then went on to study every single pull in videos on the net. Well thats not fun nor rewarding in any way, thats just doing it.

Make a vid of you doing a dungeon you dont allready know at the difficulty of AC explorable mode with a class you havent read up on online before doing it.

This content REEKS of wow end game raiding. You have to study before playing for fun.

Everyone needs to run around with the same build to be able to survive. You cant make your own character the way you want because that just doesnt fit the meta of wow mmo’s.

The dungeon system in any mmo is make it or break it for me. This broken thing just…. broke it for me and my friends. We went away from wow because we where tired of raiding. We dont want to continue that here. And pvp is boring :/

This is not true at all.
Any player using common sense and playing experience can run a dungeon.
Common sense including:
-Don’t spec in offence only
-Use your dodge wisely
-Know your skills and weapon swap wherever needed
-Be willing to adapt to the situation (if a mob keeps chasing you, focus more on snares and knockbacks)
-Don’t treat dungeons as mindless DPS zergfests. Work with your teammates. Use support and res downed people.
I never looked up guides or builds online. I run my own build that I use everywhere in PvE, join PUGs for dungeons, never looked up a guide for a dungeon.
The only difference for me in dungeons is that I use staff instead of dual dagger as Elementalist. Bring a different Elite skill. And maybe a different utility if it seems needed somewhere in the dungeon.

Dungeons are completely optional.
If you have trouble beating dungeons, level up more. Unlock more traits. Get better gear. Learn to play your profession better (try different weapon sets and utilities). Spec more into defensive stats.
When I did Ascalonian Catacombs the first time as a level 35 or so I thought it was friggin’ hard. Taking up my own advice I went back to the dungeon later and completed it pretty easily dying a lot less than my first time.

The moral of the story is. Don’t quit after your first try. Take a break from it if you need. Think of what went wrong.
If you got owned by red AoE circles. Try to learn to dodge faster.
If you got 1-shot. Spec more into defence / bring more defensive skills and buffs.
If you as caster get constantly grabbed by melee, bring snares, blinds and knockbacks.
If you see your teammates making dumb mistakes, don’t yell or swear at them. Be patient and explain to them what they do wrong and how to do better.

Dungeons are not necessarily “optional”. Some (all?) are meant to be end game content, which means its one of the only NEW thing to do once you get to lvl 80, other than go farm stuff.

To those saying its mean to be played with friends or guilds: what about us that don’t have/want a guild or have friends who play (or even who play but aren’t on/appropriate level)? How the heck are we supposed to do the explorable mode for the achievements (or heck, even GRIND out the tokens for the armor sets)? It needs to be completable by a casual PUG group, since not everyone is “elite” as you?

I don’t have any friends that do dungeons. I don’t have a guild that does dungeons either. I just join a PUG and run explorable. Not one PUG I’ve joined has not been able to finish an explorable so far.

1. That’s not really true. Was running 2 explorables with another Elementalist in my team who ran a completely different set-up than I did and used a different weapon set. Sure it may not allow literally every build to work, there’s still enough freedom to give you choices.
2. I’ve learned by dying lots from this that being on the move all the time is extremely important in order to survive. Red circles generally appear in time and give you a little bit of time to react with a dodge.
Also there are multiple difficulties. Story-mode which is the normal version of the dungeon, and explorable, which is the hard mode version.
3. If you complete the dungeon you should be able to make a profit. Unless you really died a lot of times (15-20+ times).
4. No wonder you have problems with dungeons if you see it as just a mindless zergfest… The moment you see it as teamwork it’ll get better and more do-able for you.

As I just wrote in another thread, there is no need for a “tutorial dungeon”.
People generally aren’t dumb, but they like to play dumb so they can blame their failure on something else other than themselves (lol, even I do sometimes xD). If people were to analyse the reason why they fail at doing a dungeon the world would be a better place.

Analyse your mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Adapt to the situation using your available skills.
If you’re below level 80 and find it too challenging, level up more. Unlock more traits. Get better gear. Buy more utility skills. Try out different weapon sets. Learn to play your profession better and more effectively. Use dodge more wisely.

If all that fails, it might be either you sucking at the game, or your teammates not having gone through the learn-to-get-better phase yet. If it’s your teammates doing it wrong, don’t yell or swear at them. Be patient. Explain to them what they do wrong. Tell them what they can do to be more effective. If you know the dungeon strategies from a previous run, share tactics.

Yeah, a lot of the higher level zones are broken. A few zones work pretty well, while others have so many broken DE chains I almost don’t dare to start a seemingly working one in fear of breaking more.

I found the story to be ok. I guess I had my expectations set low, and mostly enjoy it for what it gives me to do and the rewards at the end. The dialogue is bad, the characters are one-dimensional. Nothing really new here, it was to be expected. That said, I think the story was still enjoyable, and had some funny, cool and epic moments.

Quick question is it possible to have a playlist for individual cities (rather then a general city playlist) of each race? If so what are the exact names for creating these playlists.

Nope, the ones I listed are the only playlists that work.
