Hope you don’t mind me popping in here for this question, but I’ve got the Arah part of my class quest to do still… This is story mode right? About how difficult and how much time is involved with story?
It’s not all that difficult in story-mode, but I guess it depends on your team.=p It’ll take an hour or so to complete I think.
I always run Arah exp with people I know, pug is the main reason that makes your exp run a nightmare.
I know exp mode is a bit hard but that’s what an endgame is going to be.
That’s not really true, though. All my PUG runs have been quite good experiences. Maybe we weren’t the most efficient team around, but at least it’s been fun playing in PUGs, and that’s what matters I think.
Great… The Gates of Arah meta-event is bugged once again (“The Pact are strategizing at Caer Brier”), so no one on Gandara is able to enter Arah until next server restart (Monday night?)
How about you keep this dungeon open for people to play until you get the meta-event working as intended?
My level 80 Elementalist sits at 15.5K HP.
On-topic: I agree. Water should go first, it’s my most useful combo field.
When I see someone in full Arah I think: Oh they rode the first two bosses hard, first couple of weeks after retail /yawn.
Unfortunately yeah. The lazy and the bad always ruin it for the legit players.
post too long to quote
Obviously you didn’t even read his post.
And yes, I agree that this needs to be fixed. Partyleader leaving the party shouldn’t reset the dungeon, that’s just stupid design.
Yeah, I did Twilight Arbor like a month ago, and no cutscenes showed up for me. I did it some time later, and then they worked. Seems random.
I hope to get a group and go there again this evening, and try out some of these strategies.
She would heal for the full duration if there is an extra spark, however her second resurface would only require 1 spark.
What I don’t understand, what’s the point in this? Just have her heal back instantly or something. Why waste people’s time having that extra spark there that won’t disappear until she heals back to full HP? It doesn’t make sense from a design standpoint.
Not too hard to get a group on Gandara, but that’s during prime time. Haven’t really ever tried teaming for Arah outside prime time. Orr is generally pretty quiet in early hours anyway.
Heh, I tried this same path yesterday and got stuck on the extra sparks as well. I don’t know if it’s working as intended, my guess it’s either bugged or it’s poorly designed; might need more visual cues on what to do exactly if there’s some trick to it.
Well, I haven’t done speed runs, but I’ve seen how easy TA is exploited. The wurm boss is safely ranged without any risk. The final bosses are easily killed without doing much. And there’s some easy mob skipping.
The best solution would be add walls for different areas that’ll only disappear after some/all of the mobs have been cleared.
And I agree that mobs shouldn’t be skippable. Well, it’s ok if there’s some that can be skipped, but not large parts of the dungeon. Speed runs destroy the dungeon experience, because a team isn’t made of good players anymore. Only of people who can stealth and run past content, or know how to exploit a boss fight. If they’re asked to fight they answer “but it’s too hard // but it takes too long”. And then when the speed run finally gets nerfed they’re complaining about the dungeon being too difficult.

No Fraps of it, I was the scrub whos keyboard died… hate wireless stuff.
The DPS requirements shouldn’t be too high, our Necro normally runs Minionmancer but had to swap to a less-than-ideal offshoot of his build since Minions can’t hit invisible targets and they super mess up the sparks. Make sure you have someone who can keep the priestess poisoned at all times (including while she’s stealthed. I can’t stress enough that she just stealths, she is not invulnerable!). Luck-wise, the necro was about all she ever petrified so that probably helped a lot. Our setup was…
Stealths only? That’s useful information.xD
You don’t have to kill the lesser ones to progress.
Well the dungeon didn’t progress for us. The pointer remained on the first stone with the NPC telling us it was guarded by a monster that devours undead or something (assuming this is the slime boss he’s talking about).
Thanks for the replies people.
Will definitely get back to this path even if it’s just to destroy this Priestess.
It is because it’s not needed to group outside of dungeons. I like playing with people in the open world, but there’s no need for me to be in a group with them. If someone else wants to party up and sends me an invite, sure I’ll take it.
The problem is that goldbuyers are a lot harder to spot. They don’t tend to advertise or use bots.
Gold sellers are easy to spot. They spam chat. They bot, or farm the same places over again and have websites.
Yeah I dunno, I’ve never had it happen that smoothly either. I reckon the sparks are pretty buggy and they’ll probably look at fixing it. It might be too tough with a PUG. Maybe consider respecing for that fight? It’s not like there’s any damage outside of the sparks/aoe circles. I went complete glass cannon for it and didn’t have much troubles staying up.
True, but I can’t reset my trait lines inside a dungeon. I’m spec’d 10 in Fire and 10 in Air (other points in Earth, Water, Arcane). For the rest I can switch to dual daggers and bring Fiery Greatsword elite, that’s about it for me.
Hopefully an ArenaNet dev could shed some light on this. At least tell us if it’s 100% working as intended, or if it’s bugged and going to get a fix. I don’t mind tough content, but I do mind buggy content.
We did have people assigned to different sparks to gather, but I guess we didn’t notice the blue thing in her status bar, and no idea why that would be the only indicator to know when she’s going to vanish, because it seems to go against ArenaNet’s way of designing the game (less looking at UI elements). So maybe add a voice clip or an extra animation instead of a small blue square icon in her status bar.
Although even with our team being not as fast, it doesn’t explain why sparks wouldn’t disappear as easily as they did in that video. If they were dealt with that easily we wouldn’t have trouble beating her either, just taken a little longer. For us there’d always be 1 spark just floating around the statue, following one of our team, while the boss regen’d back.
I don’t know about our team’s DPS, cause I was running a PUG. As for myself, I run a balanced Elementalist build, so purely DPS-wise I’m not all that great.
What I wonder is why they buffed the spawns instead of changing the way the event works. So basically they buffed the spawns to prevent people from easily kiting around. Apparantly they don’t want people to kite, and that’s ok. However, why not change the event to a progress bar that goes down by the number of mobs killed? Like an average defend DE in the open world?
This would force people into fighting at this part instead of cheaply kiting around.
No one has even ever attempted to kill this boss? Great…
Spent ages going through the Seers path in Arah explorable, up to the Dwayna Priestess. We got the thing about gathering the Sparks at the statue, but they wouldn’t get sealed, and just follow us instead until Dwayna healed back up to (near) full health every single time, making her unbeatable.
Is this a bug, or is there some secret strategy behind the sealing of the Sparks?
edit for extra information:
This is how a fight would go with her:
First we bash on her till she reached about 50% HP while I get petrified every 2 seconds (quite literally).
Then she disappears and regens while we gather sparks and run to the statue.
Sometimes the sparks got sealed in mere seconds (somehow?), while other times it would take longer. Anyways, she would usually sit around 70-90% of her max HP after doing this.
At around 40-50% she disappears again, and we go gather sparks again and run back to the statue. However, this time there is always at least 1 spark left that just won’t get sealed, but instead continues to attack another player. So basically we all run around the circle, wondering what makes those other sparks so easily to deal with, while this last one just won’t disappear. By the time it finally does get sealed Dwayna is already back at 90/100% HP.
Rinse and repeat.

Arah explorable – Jotun path
Was killing the Ooze boss in the first part of the dungeon, and after killing one of the silver spawns, it spawned two lesser oozes right in the wall. Were unable to continue the dungeon, because shots were obstructed and the mobs were immune.
It also misses a lot of destructable objects.
Played Elementalist since BWE1 and first day of headstart and still loving it.
What they should have done is made these weapons available for dungeon tokens (like 250 tokens of all 8 dungeons to buy one). Then we could at least get them by normally playing the game instead of losing a race against the rising prices thanks to botters and exploiters.
I agree. As an Elementalist there’s nothing that even remotely looks cool for me to get.
The staff has rainbows going around it. Seriously? I’m a motherkitten Elementalist, not a unicorn… I want my staff surrounded by the 4 elements.
The dagger’s gotta be the biggest joke of them all. I don’t even know how to describe how disappointed I am with that one. And yes, I have seen the screenshot of a player wielding it ingame. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Give me a real dagger, please.
The scepter looks like something that belongs in a science museum and is way oversized, no thanks.
Of course the greatswords are the only real cool looking legendaries. They look like motherkitten greatswords, and are totally badkittens. Sunrise and Twilight define the word “legendary”, while the other legendaries are closer to the definition of “complete joke”. C’mon, a bow shooting rainbows? What the kitten is legendary about that? Looks like it comes from a cartoon for 3 year olds.
For some reason Lion’s Arch plays ambient instead of city.
Have had the player running past and the mob chasing turn on me a few times and that is frustrating but I just curse them under my breath and carry on, as for the other issues must say no the community on Gandara at least seem mostly helpful and friendly.
I’m on Gandara too.8) It’s a good server.
Not noticed this at all on my server. I’ve spent some time in Orr last week, and it’s been pretty good. Once I died during the Lyssa event, and a guy ressed me from death state in the middle of the fight.
A guy was asking for help at a skillpoint guarded by some mobs and a champion, and several people came to help him.
Orichalcum ore locations are frequently linked in chat.
I see people being ressed during big events all the time.
I don’t know this “zerg” you speak of. There’s a some groups of players around the busy spots in the area, but they’re just doing their thing. I sometimes join in for an event, then go back to do stuff on my own. Never had a problem with them.
Also, outside prime time it’s pretty hard to get stuff done, because:
There’s not a lot of people online.
Not everyone might be wanting to do the thing you need.
Not everyone might have time to do the thing you need.
Maybe they’re doing other events together.
Just because people don’t answer your questions or come to rescue you for every little thing doesn’t mean that they’re bots or selfish players.
Sometimes I ask for help at a god shrine, but usually get a reply that people are currently doing some other big event first. So instead of continue whining in chat/forums how people are so selfish and only doing their own thing, I join in on the fun at the other event.
Other times I get no reply at all, and that’s ok. It just means there aren’t enough players around that are willing to, or have time to come do a big event with me.

Hell to the yes.
Guild Wars 1 was even less progression based, and has been doing fine for 7 years. I don’t see why Guild Wars 2 would do worse with more progression.
I kind of skimmed the post, but what I’m getting from it is that MMO’s cater to those who are very competitive, and that’s not true. In your example of getting resources, when others do not, thus making me more powerful… no, just no. I don’t care if others can get those same resources for themselves. A lot of people don’t care about being more powerful or getting more stuff than others. That’s what this game caters to more, while traditional MMO’s attract the more competitive kind of people.
Sweet, congrats.=p
Is there a way to obtain the weapons required for making a legendary that don’t involve gambling or TP? Because I heard that throwing in 4 rares or exotics has a chance on getting one of the weapons, but that seems like a massive item sink and a waste of time, because you only ever get kittens in return.
The other way is buying it on the TP, but when prices go up +10G a day thanks to botters and exploiters inflating the market, and I make less than that in 1 day, I don’t think that’s worth shooting for.
I’ve been playing hours in Orr without hitting DR. Not farming, though, just playing through the areas doing events here and there and getting some crafting materials.
I don’t know, it works fine for me.=s Maybe try other areas? I remember music not playing at all in some areas during Beta cause of bugs.
I will test it tomorrow then. Just how many enemies do you have to pull in order for it to work?
For me it usually starts playing when I’m fighting 3 or 4 enemies at a time, which usually happens during DE’s. And oh yeah, you asked about the bossbattle playlist. That one starts playing during the unique world bosses, like Swamp Behemoth and the Dragon champions. It also plays during some of the dungeon bosses.
Yeah I checked in sylvari tutorial area and it played all the time, nicely. So what am I doing wrong in the game world? I tested it again on 6 mobs – nothing
Shame because it would be really great to hear stuff if you pulled 2+ mobs

Did the story mode like 2 days ago, and no problems with the dungeon at all.
I agree that the CoE story-mode felt too hard in some places for a story-mode dungeon, nice to see it being changed.
theres no folders in my music folder
No, but there is a folder called “music”, that’s where your playlists go.
This is great stuff! But I can’t get my battle music to play. I tested around with playlists to see how it works, and so far I imported ambient, night time and battle music to test it. First two work perfectly they even randomize without adding extra silent tunes but the battle music never plays.
I know you have to pull more then just 1 mob but I was all over the place, pulling up to 7 mobs at time and nothing triggered. I’m not exactly sure how to fix thisAnd when do boss battles work?
If you have a free character slot left, try going to the human tutorial and test battle music there? Since there’s permanent battle music in that instance it’s easy to test there.
I don’t know if it changed, but I did the event like a month ago. Sometimes it fails if the zerg moves too much from the NPC’s. Like the zerg tends to dive into the enemies coming from the front, while there’s often groups coming from the back as well, striking the largely undefended NPC’s. Keep the zerg closer to the group, and have some heals going.
Did something change about the aggro system lately?
Yesterday I was doing Arah explorable, and one of the bosses was permanently locked onto me. No matter how much I kited around, she wouldn’t change targets. Took 15 minutes or so of me kiting around and the rest of my time hitting the boss, it was stupidly ridiculous.
Today during a champion boss event, the boss was locked onto the same player for the whole fight, without ever changing targets. WTH hell happened to the aggro system? Is this a bug?
So I was attempting to do Lyssa world event in Malchor’s Leap today, and we had to keep doing the same 3 events over again (to secure the seals), but after a few runs I backed off to protect myself from potential DR. I want to know how often can I repeat the same few events without being DR’d?
I have the same issue with my Storm Eye that I transmuted over over a level 80 Exotic helm.=/
How do I make the exotic weapon that is required for the crafting of a Legendary Weapon? I heard it’s done by placing 4 high level rares or exotics in the Mystic Forge, but is it worth the gamble, or would it be faster to save up the 200G+ to buy one off the TP?
Suggestions for alternative ways to get precursor weapons (legendaries)

I like the idea of dungeon tokens that can be used to buy one of those items.
I find that ressing is one of the most important factors when it comes to completing dungeons successfully. I’ve been in teams that wipe over and over again on simple encounters, simply because people refuse to res downed teammates. Then I go in the same instance with a group that does res people, and clear it nicely without any deaths.
So if you can’t solo them does that means the dungeon is hard enough?
First ditch the idea that you are strongest in dual-wield melee. That’s extremely limiting yourself. If you have trouble melee’ing, get a longbow or rifle. There’s no point in being the “strongest with dual-wield” if it can’t make you stay alive.
I don’t know what else happened in the party, but it helps if everyone brings some sort of party support. As warrior that means bringing shouts or banners.
