Saying they are looking for a tank is rather silly especially for CoE because most fights are either aoe you need to dodge or just random agro.
Exactly what I was thinking too.
I’m a Mesmer and I melee Subject Alpha most of the time….I’m also not toughness build either though I do have some vitality. Asking for tanks is silly. Asking for skilled players is not.
Yeah, some guy said he was looking for experienced players in his CoE party. I completed all paths several times, so I said I’ll join. Then he goes on asking about my profession, and says he needs to know for an efficient party. 15 minutes later I still see him asking for a Warrior or Guardian because he doesn’t want to die 20 times in an instance (or so he said to me).
I get a bit annoyed by some of the changes, but it’s nothing that really bothers me all that much. I can live with it, and sometimes there’s nice changes to make up for it.
I watched them all the first time. Now I only watch the ones I like, the rest I skip.
PUGs are terrible.
Naw, they aren’t.
I’ve been spending some time in Lion’s Arch today, and noticed CoE parties looking for tanks pretty frequently. What’s up with this? What part of CoE is hard enough to require a real tank?
There’s a lot of funny stuff, but I can’t really remember any right now.
Anything with skritt and golems is usually funny.
Even though I agree with the sentiment, honestly I don’t believe that is the case, I know because I’ve followed GW2 for a long time that they are intended to be an end game activity as well but the very act of making the first one available at level 30 suggests to everyone that they aren’t purely end game content.
Yes, but only because they aren’t purely endgame content, doesn’t mean they’re casual-friendly. I remember in an old article a dev said dungeons were problably harder than any of GW1’s elite areas.
They never said or claimed dungeons would be for casuals.
The open world is, is that not enough for you? I doubt any casual player has its “Been there, done that” title yet, including you.
Personally I feel dungeons are for people who seek to improve their skill as a player. For anyone who goes in and expects it to be open world PvE is in for a disappointment.
When I did my first dungeon with a PUG of firsttimers we got stomped, and made me not want to go back there again. Yet, after 10 levels I felt I was up for the challenge, and made it through a lot easier. Every time I did another dungeon I improved my own skill, to survive better, deal more damage, offer more support.
You don’t go in a dungeon and expect to stomp through it with your open world PvE mind- and skill set… well, you can if you’re experienced enough, or get carried by a good team, but for the casual player that’s not gonna happen.
There are other problems as well, glass cannon no vit/toughness builds/gearing works perfectly fine out in Tyria so people go with it, they walk into a dungeon like that and get splattered.
At the levels you are actually supposed to do the dungeons you only have two stats on a piece of armour so it’s not unusual to find players without vit or toughness, if it’s required for dungeons there shouldn’t be a single piece of amour at the pre three stat armour pieces that is glass cannon, it should all have either vit or toughness on it.
Well, dungeons were advertised as the high-end PvE content, so it only makes sense an inexperienced player running a glasscannon build gets shattered.
The dungeons are a lot harder if you do them at the minimum level requirements, but still do-able in a decent team (a lot easier to find now with more people being level 80). Luckily you can do them at any level, so if you struggle with them, level up some more and try again later.
People say read the guides but in general they are utterly useless, they skip all the really important details mainly because I suspect most of the authors (not all, there must be some good ones out there somewhere) generally don’t know the real way to deal with them, they just sort of wing it by playing to the best of their abilities and hoping everyone else does the same. Others use minor exploits/tricks and some relied extensively on heavily nerfed builds/abilites that no longer function as well
Now I haven’t checked dungeon guides, but you can’t blame the guides of having every little detail in them. It’s just not practical with so many possible professions, traits, skillsets, weapon combos. And generally encounters are dealt with better through experience than watching it on a video.

To set the pacing.
It’s really easy if you know the timing.xD
Join a PvE guild.
I’d say keep them. Gonna be pretty rare in a few years.=P
The best class is the skilful player.
If a Pokémon game on a Gameboy Color from 20 years ago could handle 151 custom names, then surely an MMO from 2012 can do with 50…
50 times however many people are playing Rangers.
Second, you may have missed my sarcasm in the last post, but coding isn’t something you can sit down and do in 10 minutes. It takes time and effort, plus testing and all that other hullabaloo.
Not to mention the fact that there are probably HUNDREDS of other bugs that need to be fixed before a minor cosmetic issue.
Ok, I don’t recall myself demanding a fix for this right here right now.
It’s not a huge deal, but I want ArenaNet to be aware of it, so that they might fix it some time. It’s just 1 thing less to enjoy about the Ranger for me…

Thunderclap — WTKitten are you doing on a Ranger!?
I hate the 1-handed sword on Ranger because it takes away control of my character. It auto-leaps, and can’t be used on the move, so am forced to auto-pilot on it. It’s just really awkward.
Also wish Hornet Sting would work in reverse, with the initial strike being a leap, and the secondary strike being a dodge out (give it some time before it returns to the initial strike, though). It would be nice for an opener, while having the backward dodge is nice to have when switching to a ranged weapon.
Hey, great guide, thanks for that. I have a question, does it affect your FPS/Performance by doing your own playlists? Also, if I decide that I do not want the custom playlist anymore, do I simply delete it from the music folder and the “default GW2” music should be back again?
Thanks
It has no impact on performance whatsoever.
And yeah, if you want the original music back, just remove the playlists from the folder.
Plus I doubt a lot of people would bother naming all 50 of their pets anyway. Most people would stick to the ones they use most.
My thoughts are this: We were made to be a complex class and therefore they cant make it easy on us. The skill ceiling is higher for us than all the other classes.
Except that the class is not supposed to be harder than the others. The classes were all designed to be of even difficulty, just different styles.
Then the problem is that other classes are too easy to play? Not that Elementalist is too hard…
Then people would continue a dungeon without repairing their armour. Promoting bad gameplay.
Well, I agree. Even beyond level 80 I’ve gone through plenty self-improvements to my gameplay. Just cause you’re level 80 doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve fully mastered the profession.
I don’t understand the people who only stay in 1 element primarily. You have instant access to 15 more skills, but refuse to? That doesn’t make any sense to me.
The only times I played with only 1 Element at a time was below level 10, just to get used to the skill sets.
Yeah, like nerfing the only “good” Elementalists had? Makes sense I guess.
If it’s a known bug I wonder why it’s still not fixed more than a month after release=/
Started to play Ranger today, and was looking forward to getting names for all the different pets. Unfortunately when I replace a pet with another it doesn’t remember the name I gave it. Why can it not remember the names I give each pet? Is going to be very tedious adding names to pets every time I change my pet set-up.=/
It shouldn’t be tied down to anything but randomness, otherwise it’s an easy and predictable way of going into the encounter.
Orr mobs should scale much better so when there’s a large group of players in an event, powerful mobs will spawn with AoE attacks that can down a player in a few hits and enough health to survive longer than 2 seconds in player AoE.
Also have mobs spawn in from multiple sides, so people don’t just stack their group at the 1 side all the mobs spawn at.
That’s because you barely get anything for doing the same dungeon path again, so why do you expect people to run the one same dungeon all night?
I dunno, but if it bothers you that much why not bring skills to counter these things? Bring stability if you find yourself getting knocked down too much.
And the flowers don’t instantly kill you, you can dodge out of them and heal back.
I have trouble believing it is intended.
Squeaky girly sounds while swinging a sword is one thing. But the sounds they make now sound like they are freaking chippettes. I seriously think the pitch was accidentally set too high, or the sound was sped up for some reason.
Oh so that’s the strange sound I sometimes hear… a female human swinging a greatsword. Wow, that sounds so bad.
Any PUG group. Makes every dungeon a different experience.8)
I wish I had Emo hair, then it would cut itself.
Best comment. Ever.
Which music plays in dungeons, that I wonder?
Haven’t really paid attention to it even after getting my dungeon title.xD I don’t think it plays Ambient outside the battles, but that’s ok, since you’re in battle most of the time anyway. Besides Ambient it’ll play all of your custom playlists. Battle during fights, bossbattle in some encounters (a lot in CoE), and Underwater if you’re underwater.
Sound sucks yeah. It’d make the game with sound on unplayable, and potentially a tool for griefing.
Yeah, generally high toughness/vitality, but must also be good at dodging and using defensive skills wisely.
really depends. I’ve been in groups where 1 guy plays the role of “tank” usually taking aggro and distracting most of the mobs while the rest of the party picks off stuff 1 by 1. In other groups it’s more balanced, and everyone does a little of taking damage, doing damage and support. Then there’s groups with people heavily on support, which also helps. All kinds of team setups work, as long as the players playing their class well.=P
I remember my first time fighting him, was way too tough. I did him a few other times to help out people, and he seemed so much easier when people know what to do against him.=p
If only he wouldn’t kill me in 2 shots for getting up in his face (toes) with my dual dagger build.xD
edit: Also what guy above me said. Want more lore.=D
Well I play Elementalist (balanced build), but even with other Elementalists in the party I’m always his first choice, even when I’m downed. Oh well, the same goes for his 3rd phase. I’m always the first thing he stalks. Only after I get downed he starts going on other people.
I sometimes spend time standing in Lion’s Arch and often see LFG’s for dungeons on my server (Gandara). Nice way to find PUGs.
Not a complaint, but just wondering why does he always target me with his teleport skill? I’ve been in many PUGs now, and like 90% of the times I’m his main target for his teleport skill… Just seems kinda strange…
You’re right about this map. The first time I came there (a month ago or so) it was pretty fun and epic joining the zerg in some of the events. Eventually events bugged out, skillpoints weren’t working, there’s no Orichalcums to mine, the loot is lower level etc. I really liked the Balthazar event, but apparantly it got stuck or something and completely bugged so I never returned to the zone cause of lack of incentives and broken content. Not sure what state the zone is in now, I prefer Malchor’s Leap or Cursed Shore if I decide to spend time on Orr.
This is a real problem without any other way to look for people or a group.
My Elementalist’s name is Roth. An anagram of Thor, and he mains Air magic.
My Guardian is Milennin. Character name I use in every online game I play.
I think it’s the strongest burst heal for Elementalists, it looks cool, and it fits my character who mains in Air magic. But as I’m guessing it under-performs compared to other heal skills. Yeah, I get that racials aren’t supposed to be more powerful than regular skills, but these aren’t even usable in sPvP, so the least they could is make racials on par with regular skills. Maybe make Prayer to Dwayna remove 1 condition, or add regen for a few seconds.
What was so special about Guild Wars 1 was that you can get famous and renowned, your guild can get famous, the playes are famous, here i dont feel the same, i dont even feel like playing pvp anymore. even if we have players in the guild there is nothing to play for, what is this thing about the paid tournaments, we get gems! big deal, i can swipe my credit card and buy the entire store.
What? There were famous people in Guild Wars 1? I played it for years and can’t recall ever hearing of a “famous” person in that game.
I guess they’re supposed to be more of a cinematic experience. Just cool stuff to look at.
What would’ve been a more legendary option for the pre-cursor is to give players 1 token they can exchange for any 1 pre-cursor after completing every dungeon path once (must run all again for another token).
This would promote dungeons and paths people normally don’t run, a better system than throwing gold at the TP or praying to the RNG gods for luck in the Mystic Forge. It would also give the legendary weapons more of a display of skill, rather than just being rich in a game.
