Having played a level 80 Guardian and Elementalist in explorable dungeons, both in full exotics, I must say I feel the Elementalist is the better profession to play. I don’t see why people complain about Elementalist being underpowered or sucky, because I find it easier to survive dungeons playing Elementalist than Guardian.
Yeah, that’s it. Having read tons of people complain about the Elementalist being weak, I wanted to put the profession to the test myself and compare it to one of the most sought after professions in dungeon groups. Elementalists have tons of survivability and versatility that I miss having on Guardian. Not saying Guardians are bad, but I feel Elementalist is just better, and more fun to play as well.
Warrior, Guardian and Elementalist are probably the 3 most sought after classes for dungeons. But any class works, and most parties don’t mind much what classes join.
Lol, the only thing they bothered to fix is the nice dye drop rate. I guess that was more important than finally getting Arah’s meta event to work.
It’s mega easy if you know how to do it. It’s funny to watch people fail on it.
Been finding a lot more dyes lately.
They’ve already said they will update the dungeon chests soon.
Story > Veteran > Champion mode
Things I dislike
-Bad loot from chests. It’d be nice if chest loot would improve the further you go into a dungeon. Example: First chest has mostly blues, much like the current way chests reward players. This is to prevent players from just farming the first chest over again instead of finishing the dungeon path. The 2nd chest would give players mostly greens with a fair chance for a rare. The final chest would give players greens, 1 gold and then a random chance for an exotic, a few rare crafting materials or a lodestone / cores.
-Uninteresting boss fights. While some bosses are fun and cool, there’s a lot of boss monsters that are plain boring, with little challenge and variety to them. They’re just boring time sinks to slow down the party with their massive HP bar.
-Missing waypoints. Some dungeons could do with a few more waypoints, for example up>forward path in Twilight Arbor before the path with the deadly bees. I think Honor of the Waves could do with an extra 1 or 2 waypoints for each path as well.
-Trash mobs too easily skipped. What’s the point in having these trash mobs when they are:
First – Too easily skipped.
Second – Too unrewarding.
I know ArenaNet doesn’t want people to run dungeons in 10 minutes or so, which is why I wonder why they made trash mobs so unrewarding and easily skippable. Like increase the chance for better loot from chests with every trash mob killed and set more walls in place that only open up after killing certain amount of trash mobs.
-Locked dungeons. Remove event requirements for opening up dungeons. Or get them permanently fixed so they actually work: ARAH
Twilight is pretty sick looking. Sunrise on the other hand is lame, and looks like something “Warrior Princess Barbie” would carry around :/
Sunrise is friggin awesome. Twilight on the other hand is lame, and looks like something “i wanna be all black and red cuz those make me look cool and emo” would carry around.=/
Which is why I don’t care too much for health. Not saying it’s not important, because it is. But having relatively low health isn’t that bad really. Low health with high defence makes your heals much more effective, I like that.
It’s only hard if you and your party doesn’t know how to dodge Alpha’s attacks.
That happens to me too. I was planning on using the Guardian’s Merciful Intervention to heal party members low on health… has me teleporting to the NPC instead…-__-
And I don’t like WvWvW but you don’t see me complaining about the monthly achievement for it…
Oh, fantasy swords in a fantasy game? Don’t tell me it’s true?=O
And no, it doesn’t bother me. If you claim 50% of the greatswords are too broad for you, then there’s always the other 50% you can pick from.
A fix to hugging could be giving a powerful stomp or knockdown skill to the boss that he’ll use if a player stands for too long in the same spot as the boss. Note that he should only use it if the player is in the same spot, not next to it, so melee isn’t punished.
Edit: Actually I think it would require more than that, but it would work for a start. The boss needs some sort of unique and powerful ability that only occurs if the party is “hugging” it.
I’ve killed her and still think she’s broken. Bad game design is bad, whether it’s beatable or not.
I don’t like it. Kinda ruins the dungeon experience when you skip half of the content. I don’t mind skipping optional mobs that much, but skipping all that’s on the main path is lame.
I bought the Witch Costume and the Wicked Hood, and will buy costumes at Christmas again if there’s anything I like.
How hard can it be to just add an NPC to Orr that lets people in Arah as temporary fix? So lame they completely ignore this issue…
Have done AC path 1 three times after Halloween without problems.
I want Bolt for my Elementalist.=p As sword or as dagger.
I don’t get the point of this thread… it just seems like a silly rant of how this game isn’t like the games you like to play. Different game is different. Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t mean the game needs to change.
I love the Guild Wars 2 combat system and wouldn’t want it any other way.
I already have the title, but if you need an extra player for anything I’ll join.
Yeah, same on my character screen.
I’m on this underwater skill challenge in Mount Maelstrom vs. Urrahn The Hunter, and I’m unable to beat it because it keeps turning invulnerable after a while…
So the only way I found to prevent it going invulnerable is to sit in the same spot and auto-attack it for 20 minutes or so…
What about (personal) Trick or Treat backs? Does magic find influence what you get out of them?
Only creature kills…
The holy trinity style = boring and 1-dimensional.
Guild Wars 2 combat system is a lot more fun. I don’t care if you disagree, it’s all a matter of opinion. If you don’t like it there’s no reason to continue playing it. Don’t force change on a game, it won’t happen. Just play what you like instead.
Hello,
I personally tried it and to be honest the first dungeon was just cataclysmic but now it gets better and better, and it’s really a good experience as well as a good entertainment. I think the best, at the beginning, is to do it with players you know and try to elaborate tactics depending on the professions you are playing. But it’s just my opinion
Heh, yeah.=P First dungeon experience seems like a cataclysm, but after some runs it turns into controlled chaos.
Put it in home instance = Brilliant idea
Would be nicer if they were treated like an account-wide currency, like gems, that are only visible in some sort of UI menu.
He said it only works on creature kills. I’m sure that wouldn’t include opening bags, salvaging or using the Mystic Forge.
I don’t know what WT means, but I’m guessing it’s stuff that annoys me?
My list not in any particular order:
1. Level / Class discriminators. Any class works, so I don’t see the need to refuse certain classes to the party. As for level discriminating, it doesn’t bother me as much, but when a party refuses someone 70-79 that’s just idiotic.
2. People that down/die over and over again. Like when fighting simple trash mobs, or a really basic boss fight, and a player just can’t keep itself alive. Most likely because it’s wearing berserker or magic find gear and sucks at the game.
3. People that don’t use waypoint after dying. Makes me rage quietly.=P Worse even if they beg for resses during a fight... *stomps on their corpse*
4. People that don’t dodge red circles... like ever. They just stand there. WTKitten is wrong with you?
5. People that don’t adapt to the situation. Like melee that keeps getting stomped and refuses to switch to ranged, or signet warriors that continue eating dirt instead of changing their utility to keep themselves alive. Which brings me to my next point:
6. Signet warriors. Oh lol, this had to be added to the list. I normally don’t care what people run. Whatever they like to play I like to say. But this is just bad. It doesn’t do anything. And these are always the people that go down the most.
7. Control freaks who feel the need to make L2P comments about everyone’s playstyle, and constantly have to tell everyone in the party what to do, where to go etc. A little leadership in a party is nice, but these guys are way overdoing it. On the other hand...
8. The quiet guy that feels everything has to get rushed and skipped, and only doesn’t bother talking to the party because it’s not worth his time. Usually the type that runs into the next fight before the party has finished the previous fight, then dies and blames the party for being noobs (the only thing he bothers saying before he ragequits).
9. The guy that gives up at something after 1 or 2 tries. How weak can you be? Why do some people refuse to learn the dungeon and instead give up and quit?
10. Bad exploiters. The guys that are desperate to exploit the hell out of anything they can with the excuse of "but otherwise it’s too hard". Bunch of wannabe’s that think they’re pro with their dungeon set because they exploited encounters to get what they want.
Bots got banned?
That’s a good idea. Less RNG = FTW
7 runs or so I think.
Had 1 Exotic drop for me, and 1 Black Lion Pickaxe.
The most common strategy to beat him is:
1st phase: All stack together on the same spot. Focus fire on grubs as soon as they appear. If you fail to do so, Giganticus will absorb them and gain empowerment (the buff shows in his stats bar).
2nd phase: At around 3/4 HP he will turn invulnerable for a few seconds. That means your party needs to spread out and be prepared to dodge his “teleport” attack. It’s easy to see coming, and there’s no excuse to get hit by it. He’ll throw around orbs that are hard to dodge (but not impossible, you just have to look at his animation). The other attack he uses is the AoE in which he throws around a lot of orbs that sometimes hit outside the red circles as well. Having some luck helps, but just try to dodge if you can.
Best advice I could give is to have a decent amount of HP, vigor buffs, projectile reflects and any other defensive utility/traits your class might have. Only res downed people if you are sure you can survive or be able to defend yourself during the res.
3rd phase: Occurs around 40-50%HP. He’ll start following players, so your best bet is to kite him around the arena if you’re being followed. If not, throw snares on him (cripple / chill). He’ll throw orbs sometimes at players he isn’t following, not that hard to dodge if you pay attention. At the one he follows he’ll use several different attacks that generally aren’t too hard to dodge. When he downs a player, he often changes targets, so ressing downed people isn’t too hard in this phase.
I have a blast in dungeons, some fun in open world, and none in PvP.
I want blue hair.
Costume Brawl was really good in GW1, though. GW2’s version is pretty simple and lame.
I never cared all that much for the GW1 holiday events, and can’t remember them all that well, but I’ll try to answer…
There was some sort of story for Halloween, which played out over the course of several different quests. I remember for one you had to go to the Underworld and go around the whole place without getting killed, pretty intense.
On Halloween day the Mad King would appear in Lion’s Arch every 3 hours, and play Mad King says with the players. If he told a joke players had to /laugh and received trick or treat bags. If they didn’t they’d get killed and revived some seconds later. He also did some other word games that players had to answer to using different emotes.
At the end of each event he would disappear and reward all players with a unique Halloween event (different item each year).
Compared to GW2, the GW1 event was much simpler, although still pretty decent.
Besides the low difficulty on him (which is totally understandable for a holiday boss), I only wish he would spawn some adds during the fight. Besides that, I really do love the mini-dungeon… a truly memorable Halloween event. Can’t wait to see more like this.
Yes, and what makes it even better is that we’re not forced to carve any if we don’t find it fun.
I did like 6 or 7 runs total I think, and best I got was a Black Lion Mining Pickaxe. The rest was only green items.
Feel free to PM me ingame if you’re making a party.
It looks cool…
I love the Halloween stuff that we’ve had so far. And normally I don’t even care much for these things.
The Storm Eye doesn’t work either. It’s completely invisible after transmuting the skin.
Orcs Must Die! OST FTW!!
I just finished him solo on my Elementalist. Got killed a few times, but it was very manageable.
Gonna make a video later.
Same. I’ve been fighting him solo, but now he teleported somewhere down.
