Elementalist Weapon Moveset: Sword

Not sure about the skillset. Seems to split its style by having 2 elements using ranged, while the other 2 elements use melee. In that case it needs to have more gap closers, and retreats, so the player can easily move in and out melee without having to use dodges.

Fire Drill works nicely as a gap closer.
Maybe make Open Airwaves similar to Thief’s sword skill where the player can activate a teleport to previous spot manually. So it can be used as a gap closer, but also as a retreat shortly after going into melee.
Earth could have a skill like tunnel (similar to what Wurms use). An underground leap, making the user invulnerable to damage while its underground, and then return on target location and strike for damage. Would function as a gap closer, as well as a retreat.

Personally I’d love to see a sword added for the Elementalist, but maybe have it more focused on purely mid-range attacks, much like the Scepter. But while the Scepter is more defensively focused, the Sword could focus more on offensive abilities.

People already wanted ArenaNet to do something about it during Beta, yet they never even responded about it. I also like to go hidden sometimes just to not get bothered by random people. With the old Beta launcher this was actually possible, as it would let you set your ingame status before logging in. Still, the option to only appear online to friends has always been missing.

Most of my characters got the name that I wanted for them, but only because I spammed login the moment the game launched. I had back-up names in case some were taken, and that worked for the few that I couldn’t use their main name for.
Even so, it’s not too difficult coming up with an original name that isn’t taken yet. In a worst case scenario adding some sort of title or second name helps.

You can’t defeat the Asura boss at the end of the event chain solo because it’ll teleport around, and it regens back to full health if it teleports to a spot that’s out of combat.

This is an old bug, but still isn’t fixed.
Sometimes my weapon switch suddenly stops working. The switch button shows light grey (instead of light yellow), and pressing weapon switch does nothing. A way to get around it is to unequip one weapon set, and put it back on, but it’s annoying…

I don’t know how randomly it happens. Sometimes it doesn’t happen all day, sometimes multiple times a day. One part it seems to occur often is right before the Searing Flame Effigy boss in path 1 of the Citadel of Flames dungeon.

I’ve had this bug occur on both my Guardian and my Thief character.

2) How important is a game’s story to you? Why?
Not all that important, even much less in an MMO. While story can greatly enhance a game, I value gameplay way over it.

3) Within a game’s story, are you more interested in individual characters, or in bigger events and groups?
Characters for sure. Although having epic events does help.

4) In regards to your own character, do you identify with them? In other words, do you view your character as yourself? Or do you view your character as a separate entity which you created?
I view them as part of myself.

5) Do you view your character’s progression as something you create/determine, or something the game itself creates/determines?
Depends on the choices. If a certain choice seems much more fun than another, even though it would go against my character’s personality, I still go for it.

6) What do you view as your character’s ultimate goal? Is it different from the goal of defeating the final dungeon or raid boss?
To save the world and look like a badkitten while doing so obviously.

7) How effective do you find personal story in MMORPGs (usually done through personal instances/quests)? Do you find it disjointed from the rest of the game, or do you feel it fits well with the rest of the game?
Not all that effective, because of obvious reasons. I do like it, though, because I like playing solo from time to time. In Guild Wars 2 I feel it fits pretty well with the rest of the game.

8) How do you view the idea that many other players are also playing through the same personal story?
I never even think about that. The story’s mine, that’s all that matters to me.

9) How do you view your character’s personal story in relation to the larger stories in the game, or the lore of the game? Do you see a difference between individual story and group story in the game?
I don’t take group story as serious, because it’s ruined by other players derping around if it’s in the open world. In dungeons I’m more concerned about getting teamwork right to care much for the story.

Gear check is the cheapest and laziest way to create difficulty. In a game that advertised itself on having skill-based combat it’s pure lame-sauce. I know ArenaNet can do way better than creating gear checks, so why they don’t, I dunno…

If they didn’t want people to get that high in Fractals, why not just cap the level at 50, or whatever.

Ascalonian Catacombs
-Kholer being optional.
-Spiders hatchlings have too much HP. They were fine before.
-I really prefer the old Gravelings, I can’t see the reason behind their change. They spam knockdowns too kitten much.
-Ghost Eater, while having an interesting group mechanic, is still a boring boss.

Caudecus Manor
-Camera issues with some indoor places. Very annoying during combat.
-Boring, frustrating enemies.
-Snipers.
-Huge groups of enemies that totally aren’t ever worth fighting.
-Most bosses are basically normal mobs but with huge amounts of HP to grind away.
-Sureshot Seamus does nothing but spam the same attack over again. Also is way too much melee-hate, while ranged combat is completely safe from him.

Twilight Arbor
-Too much skipping.
-Husks being immensely anti-melee with their constant knockbacks.
-Those poison flowers respawning out of nowhere everytime.
-Final bosses are easily exploited, and just not much fun in general.

Sorrow’s Embrace
Been too long since I played this one, not much to comment on.
-Path 3 takes far too long in comparison with the other 2 paths, and is filled to the brim with trash mobs and trash bosses that have way too much HP to grind away.

Citadel of Flames
-Path 1 is way too easy.
-The Searing Flame Effigy barely does any damage at all. His attack power could easily be upped by at least x5.
-Path 1 and 2 are too short, too easy, and too much content is simple to skip or rushed through.
-Path 3 is way too tough compared to the other 2 paths.

Crucible of Eternity
-Path 1 Alpha is too easily exploited by staying in melee range.
-The stationary golem boss on every path is very boring, and tends to focus only the same player during the whole fight.
-Bjarl bugs out too often, messing up his animation.
-Destroyer Crab gets skipped because it’s frustrating, and easy to skip.
-Evolved Destroyer that must be hit with 3 lasers is extremely boring, and frustrating. One of the least fun fights in the game.

Honor of the Waves
Been a while since I’ve done this one…
-Too many bosses with huge HP and offer little challenge to the player.
-Underwater bosses are one of the longest and most boring fights in the game.
-Underwater bosses stalking the same player during the whole fight, never even changing target.

Arah
Been a while since I’ve done this one, I’m not sure if some things I mention here have been fixed while I’ve been away from the game.
-The waypoint before Giganticus Lupicus on path 1 is way too far away. With the update that players can no longer resurrect during combat there is no reason for this.
-I assume the exploits on Giganticus Lupicus are no longer going on?
-Giganticus Lupicus losing agro, and healing back to full HP in the middle of combat happens too frequently. Not sure if fixed…
-Korga is easily exploited by luring him away from corpses.
-Alphard focusing on the same player during the whole fight, never changing targets.
-Path 4 takes way too long.
-Melandru’s boss is really boring…
-Simin. Do I need say more?
-Path 4’s final boss is boring and way too easy.

Fractals
-Agony

Most common concerns
-Some places have too much CC going on.
-Bosses with too much HP.
-Bosses that do too little. Only having 1 or 2 different attacks.
-Bosses that are no threat to the party.
-Bosses that have too much melee-hate, yet are too easily safely ranged.
-Bosses are easily exploited.
-Too much content is simply skipped.

The problem is that mobs have huge HP.
They don’t drop anything worthwhile.
Some are dangerous enough to down the average party.
The mobs are all the same, and don’t do anything interesting or fun.

Been away for some months, and I can’t figure out why half the playerbase is jumping from event to event like a swarm of locusts in level 1 areas. These areas used to be dead some months ago.
Also why is everyone is so obsessed with these meta bosses now? I figured they do provide a daily boss reward now, but that’s only once a day. Why are so many people camping these event as if their lives depend on it?

Sometimes after loading a new zone or instance, my camera movement is being slowed and gameplay suffers from delays. Only way to fix this is by leaving the game and starting it up again.

Did this yesterday. I don’t think the part with the Eye was so tough, but a few of the groups that you have to go through earlier in the mission were pretty tough. As for the part with the Eye. All I did was focus my hits on it, making it go down pretty quickly. After that it’s just cleaning up the trash.

Better challenges
Having played Guild Wars 1, I was pretty disappointed with the challenges provided in the personal story. Most of the story was dead easy. The few times it did get tough, it felt more as if the designer accidentally added an extra digit to the attack stat of some mobs. An unbalanced kind of difficulty, that didn’t feel consistent with the rest of the story’s difficulty.

Almost none of the stuff we fight in the personal story is interesting. It was just basic mobs upon basic mobs. The stuff we fight in the overworld. Almost all of the boss fights were extremely easy, up to the point were I could simply go afk on auto-attack, because the boss was either not doing any damage, or NPC’s were tanking all the hits for me.

I’d like to see the personal story introduce more advanced gameplay mechanics, maybe to serve as preparation for dungeons. Make bosses more challenging, but make their weaknesses obvious. I guess it’s not easy doing such a thing, since it needs to be balanced out for 8 different professions… But I’d rather have ArenaNet focus on giving us interesting gameplay than giving us a bunch of story choices that won’t matter in the end.

Unique stuffs
Some of the missions I liked most were the ones that gave me unique stuff to play with. The one were my character transforms into the avatar of Balthazar comes to mind. I loved that mission, getting to smash hordes of undead like a badkitten. Or the mission in Orr were my character controls a Gundam – I mean a golem… And then shoots massive laserbeams to melt away waves of enemies.

Fun characters
Bring back Sieran for me, and I’ll love the personal story again. Having Trahearne replace her sucked. A lot. I love fun characters in my story, makes me want to play more of it. Don’t give me dry, boring, bland characters like Trahearne. At first I didn’t mind him so much, but after a while it just made me want to skip the dialogues, even on my first story playthrough.

Re-play story
Finally, I’d like to see an option to re-play story missions. I really did like some of the missions, and I’d love to play them once more some time. Unfortunately that’s not possible on the same character…

I don’t hate Trahearne, but he’s just not interesting as a character to me. He comes over as a bland and boring character, that stays in the story for too long. I wouldn’t have minded having him in the story for a few missions, but having him besides me during half of my personal story is way too much. What’s worse is that he takes over right after my favourite characters get killed off. I love all 3 orders mentors, those were my favourites in the personal story (especially Sieran), they were a ton of fun, had great personalities, and we did cool stuff together. Having them replaced by this bland and boring character for the rest of my personal story feels bad. I’d much rather have sacrificed Trahearne and have kept my Order’s mentor for the rest of the story. Now that would’ve kicked kitten.8)

Besides Trahearne being bland and boring, some of his quotes come over rather… bad. Not the kind of person I’d like to work together with. I blame the writers.

What I hope for an expansion, which hopefully comes with more personal story, is there for either:
-Don’t have the same character besides me during the majority of my personal story.
-Or if there will be, at least make it a fun character, like any of the 3 Orders mentors were.

I just did this on my level 80 Thief and had no problems at all. The Vigil NPC tanked the first Veteran, the second one targeted me. Only advice I could think of is to bring some condition removal and stability/stun breaks, and make sure your gear is somewhat up to date (level 70+ blue/greens at the least in your case).

I don’t remember these to be a problem on my previous 2, lower level characters, when I did this mission, although that’s been a while ago.

How to do AC p1 defend Hodgins post patch?

As Elementalist I use Ice Bow skill 4 mainly, then just drop it and continue hitting burrows with Meteor Shower and other AoE stuff. Also using Elemental Glyph in Earth for AoE blind.

A tactic that works well if you can get your party to listen:
-Don’t attack the front burrow.
-1 guy defends at NPC.
-Kill off the first chain of burrows.
-Wipe out the gravelings around NPC.
-Kill front burrow, and the remaining ones.
Although there’s tons of different ways to get it done. It all depends on how well your team plays.=P

What’s wrong with dungeons in my opinion:

-Bad boss designs. There are too many bosses that are just there to waste the player’s time by having massive amounts of HP, and are barely a threat to the team. Even if they are a threat to a team, having to bash on the same thing for 10+ minutes gets old really fast. There need to be more bosses that:

-Are a threat to the whole party (not just being melee-hate only, or only focus on 1 guy the whole fight).
-Do more than 1 or 2 different attacks.
-Have somewhat less HP.

-Better trash mobs, or no trash mobs at all. I don’t know what ArenaNet wants players to do, but skipping trash mobs is in most cases way and way faster and more rewarding than taking the time to kill them. Currently only inexperienced parties are forced to kill trash mobs on the main path.
If trash mobs are so worthless, and so easily skippable, why have them at all? They don’t serve any purpose other than making the player run through longer corridors while skipping the trash groups.
Some options for handling future trash mobs:

1. Make killing trash mobs more rewarding in some way.
2. Make killing trash mobs less of a chore by lowering their HP (and lower some trash mob’s use of CC abilities…)
3. Make killing trash mobs mandatory to progress the dungeon.
4. Make skipping trash mobs raise the difficulty on bosses further on in the dungeon (the more that gets skipped, the harder bosses become, effectively making skipping more of a risk vs. reward thing).
5. Remove trash mobs altogether and focus purely on designing more interesting boss fights.

-Illogical difficulty curves. The difficulty of dungeon content is all over the place. Some of the lower level dungeons are way harder than higher level dungeons. Some paths are way harder than other paths in the same dungeon. Some dungeon’s story mode is harder than some of the explorable paths. Some dungeon mid-way bosses are way harder than the dungeon’s end bosses.

Difficulty needs to be much more consistent. Story should always be easier than any explorable path. No exceptions. Story was meant to be a noob’s introduction to the dungeon, but with some of the current story modes, this is not the case.

Lower level dungeons should be easier for a level 80 party than higher level dungeons. If you can’t make the difficulty more consistent, consider just making all dungeons level 80. I mean, why have those minimum requirements at all when the difficulty is way above what it advertises?

Bring the difficulty and length of paths in the same dungeon closer together. If you make 1 or 2 paths way easier and/or faster than the other, no one is gonna run the harder path(s). What I liked about AC was that all 3 paths shared the same difficulty, which made people run all 3 paths. Some dungeons don’t have that, and people only run the same 1 or 2 paths over again.

-Rewards don’t match up. I get 26 silver for completing a 5 minute, facerollingly easy CoF run. I get 26 silver for a hellish, 6-hour long torture through Arah path 4. Rewards don’t match up with the actual content. Lower the rewards for shorter and easier dungeons. Raise the rewards of longer and more difficult dungeons.
Also, add some useful consumable rewards to the token traders. Let players buy stuff like crafting materials with their dungeon tokens. Let them buy cores and lodestones with tokens. Hell, let them buy precursors with tokens (like, 1K tokens from all 8 dungeons for a precursor). Would finally fix the terrible RNG system.
