It’s a common bug. It sometimes happens in other places as well (yesterday it happened to me in AC).
My endgame is gameplay based. I just want 8 characters in full Exotics, and then master each class, to be able to effectively run dungeons with all of my characters. Doing dungeons are the fun part of the game for me.
Slowly saving up for nice skins is nice, but not the source of my main enjoyment.
I’ve always wondered what kind of people would put their Legendary for sale on the trade post…xD It just seems silly to me, to put so much effort into getting one, and then selling it for gold. What do you plan on doing with that much gold anyway?
Do you play a mesmer?
6 months to a year from now, there’ll most likely be “orichalcum+1” level nodes, so unless you’re too lazy to restock on picks, it’s not really worth it.
As a bonus however, like all gathering tools, you can exploit the pick to also be an infinite use axe and sickle.
Yeah, probably. It’s just a nice convenience thing to have, though.
How does that exploit work to make it work like an axe and sickle?
I recently got my 77 Clovers in 1 go, and didn’t notice that much of a drop near the end.
I think it took me around 260-270 tries to get them. Just over a stack of Ectos.
An orichalcum pickaxe that doesn’t break. No RNG, no gambling involved.
GG, ArenaNet, you have my money.
Those were all pretty nice yeah. I really hope Domain of Anguish comes back some time, although it’s 99,99% unlikely to happen with Abaddon being defeated.=/
I have both a Thief and a Guardian at level 80.
I really wanted the Guardian to be my main guy, because I’ve always liked the holy warrior type of class. But in Guild Wars 2 the class just bores me. It just feels slow, and not much fun to play as.
On the other hand, Thief is now one of my favourite classes. I’ve never been a fan of the sneaky kind of character, but the Thief’s gameplay is just so much fun, I love doing dungeons with my Thief.=P I guess it all comes down to what you want from a class. Personally I love mobility and fast paced gameplay, rather than just standing there and mashing enemies with my greatsword.
Not much to be honest.
Most of what I liked in Guild Wars 1 is not brought over the Guild Wars 2. It’s just a completely different game.

Thanks for the post. That was actually interesting to read, and something to think about.
I read this and immediately thought: dual dagger Elementalist.
You get 4 elements to play with, you get CC in the form of chill, cripple, knock back, knock down, leap attacks, always be in close range with the enemy and with the low armour you’ll have to stay on the move to keep yourself alive.
There shouldn’t be any boss that focuses on the same player throughout the whole fight. It’s just crappy design.
It’s happened to me before, it’s frustrating, and annoys the hell out of me after a minute.
1. You can say the same about utility skills and traits for Gw2 cough elites cough.
4. What im trying to say here is that there were many indirect way to overcome a battle in Gw1 however, Gw2 is all about dropping an enemies health with big hit numbers. Team mate synergy in gw2 only really occurs through combo fields and such which in most cases are just accidently achieved. Gw1 on the other hand, you could buff allies, hex/debuff enemies, create spike synergy, pressure builds, opportunities were almost endless. All in all I feel the essence that was Guild wars has been reconstructed into something entirely different. Most likely in an attempt to reach a particular player base – WoW fans. Smart move on the developers half… but hurt my heart
1. You shouldn’t have a problem with that, though, since you like quantity over quality.
2. Guild Wars 1 was most of the player-base running cookie-cutter hero builds to solo faceroll all the content. The few things that were done in a party were only possible if you ran the exact same build they wanted you to run, and do exactly what they wanted you to do (FoW/UW SC). Hell, a few times I got kicked from a random mission party because of my W/Mo tag, even though I didn’t even run Monk skills on my guy, lol.
In Guild Wars 2 I can create my own build, join any PUG, and run a dungeon without problems while playing the way I want to play my character.
Theoretically GW1 might have been more interesting than GW2. In reality GW2 is way superior over GW1, unless you just prefer single players over multi-player games.

Exactly how I feel about it.=P
Use condition removal to get rid of it.
It doesn’t have to be in the story though. Some of my most heroic moments were killing champs solo or with one other player that happened to be wandering by when I jumped into the fight (or happened to be fighting when I wandered by).
True, some of my most epic moments come from dungeon parties where I save the day by soloing the last bit of HP of the final boss.=P Or help res all the people to turn the tide in an intense fight.
Yeah, don’t expect to be able to stay in melee range all the time. You’ll have to know when you can melee and when you have to retreat to heal and do some ranged combat.
You should be able to tank some bosses, or at least some of their attacks, but it takes time to learn which bosses/attacks you can handle without dodging, and which you can’t. Also, as a Guardian you have access to plenty of ways to buff yourself and grant regen. Make use of those. Like one of their traits will give them a bit of healing every time they apply boons to allies (which is something Guardians do all the time). Their staff skill #4 is an AoE heal which you can use for yourself and allies. Then you’ll want to learn to use your virtues. One of them grants you a heal, but use it wisely (personally I only use it for emergencies).
I would recommend bringing either a Scepter + something or a Staff so you can stay ranged if you need to.
If you plan on doing dungeons more often I’d also very much recommend investing in exotic gear as soon as you can. It’ll make a difference.
As for Crucible of Eternity, it’s a pretty tough dungeon for newcomers. Maybe better to start with an easier one. Ascalonian Catacombs has recently been toughened up, but it’s still a good place to learn the dungeon basics in my opinion.
1. GW1 had a lot of useless or very situational skills that were rarely used by anyone.
2. True.
3. I don’t care really.
4. Because GW1 was more of a strategy game. GW2 is more an action game. It was advertised as such before launch, though.
If you blow your skills on an enemy straight away I sure as hell wouldn’t want you in my GW2 dungeon party, though.
The problem is that you have to get somewhere safe, or you have to get to a pause in the action, to do so. You know how it goes. You start to type something and get attacked. Then you are frozen but your chat is recording every keystroke as you die.
Quickly click outside chat box and it’ll freeze the chat while you fight.=p Then you can finish what you were typing afterwards.
The story can do it by making the player do badkitten stuff. Like slaying a god in Nightfall campaign. That made me feel like a hero.=P Just killing something big and powerful is enough for me to feel like a hero in a game, but it must be done right.
It needs to come along with a decent challenge along the way, unfortunately the story in GW2 is simply too easy to be considered heroic. Other things that help are unique graphics for bosses (I don’t feel heroic slaying a slightly bigger version of a normal mob), engaging boss mechanics (don’t give me a tank’n’spank boss) and fitting music that sounds epic (too many games lack this).
I don’t like potions either. It’s such lazy design, and so overdone. Plus I never liked consumables in games anyway.=P
Actually I’m thinking of coming back but I’m afraid that this game is so alien to me now that it’s a completely different game from last December when I decided to leave for a long break. Any advise for me?
I left the game in December too, came back 2 weeks ago without problems. Most of the game is the same, with a few new things added.
Should Warrior/Mesmer be allowed to be “richer” than other people ? is this consider an exploit ? should it be nerfed ?
keep in mind:
- We all know any class can do CoF (Just not as fast)
- One of the points for the “Quickness” nerf was that people were using TW to skip over game content(CoF could have been a direct factor on the quickness nerf )
- by nerf, i mean. should it get the AC treatment?
- Which legendary do you see the most?
Please keep the discussion clean and constructive :]!
I don’t think it’s an exploit, but the dungeon path should be brought on par with other paths. Giving it the AC treatment wouldn’t hurt. AC is still easy, but apparently too difficult for the “average” player now, which is how dungeons should be at the least.
As for which Legendary I see the most, that would be Sunrise. I can’t go anywhere in Lion’s Arch without seeing a player standing afk with one of those.
Yeah, it sometimes happens, but not that often. At least not for me. No idea if it’s tied to area or something.
I’ve heard so from some people. But I guess no one really knows for sure.
I’d say I’m at around 1/4 of my Legendary (counting the pre-cursor which I still need as 1/4th of a Legendary). I’m not very actively working on one, as I still don’t really have an idea which one I want.
I really love Bolt, but I wish I could use it on my Elementalist. It just doesn’t fit any other class.=/ Then there’s Sunrise which I love, but I hardly play my Guardian (more of a Thief, Elementalist player).
I just wish I could sell them for decent cash. I had a bow drop that I ended up salvaging for some mithril. I’m not interested in these skins.
Well, there is one point to using periods even in a big hurry. The reader is in a hurry too and it is so much easier to read the text when you can see where one idea ends and another starts.
Valid point. If one person in a group can take the time to typ correctly it saves 4 others the time to decode the message.=P I know I’ve had times when I had to think what someone was trying to say because they typed so poorly.>__>
-Kohler
-Alpha without exploits
-Giant in CoE story
-Giganticus Lupicus
-Legendary Shaman in grawl Fractal
I don’t see why lupicus is considered hard, I managed to kill him on my first try along with a group of people who also didn’t know the fight. I was one of the people still up at the end as a glass mesmer with a guardian still up as well.
It’s not about a boss being hard or difficult. It’s about having good, interesting or fun mechanics that make for a good fight. Most bosses that are being mentioned have mechanics that make a dynamic fight, forces players to move around, and use more than 1 or 2 attacks over again.

If you mean like the scrying pool in the Eye of the North, then no.
The Guardian is pretty much your Paragon.
I loved Derv’s after their Flash Enchantment update.
Hell yeah.
Depends if the person constantly uses (…….) I see it as a person that have little intellect. However, if the person only uses …… at the end of one sentence then it shows either a a lack of confidence or even arrogance depending what the sentence is saying.
I’m talking about single periods, not ellipsis.
Ellipsis gets annoying when someone overuses it in my opinion. Otherwise I don’t have a problem with it.
I was in a dungeon PUG yesterday, and there was a bit of talking going on. Then one of the players said it comes over as arrogant, to use periods at the end of a sentence. Another guy said he had to kinda agree with that. I’m like what, lol? I know most people don’t use periods when chatting online, but still…
So, I’m just wondering. What do people think when they see someone use periods at the end of their sentences. Do they come over as arrogant to you? Do you not care? Do you use periods yourself? Something else?
I’ve been doing dungeons with my Elementalist and Thief just fine…
What?
Just gather materials while exploring the world. You should get enough to level up crafting.
Just save it until you have an idea what you want to do with it.
You could go with leather crafting if you want to be able to craft armour for your Thief. That’s probably the best to go for. Others you could consider are Huntsman for ranged weapons, Jewelry for creating trinkets or Chef for food buffs.
I wouldn’t really attempt to level two crafting professions at once, unless you’re willing to buy materials. If you’re just playing normally you likely won’t gather enough materials to keep up with two professions at once.
For levelling you should go with mainly offensive stats, so you can make faster kills. How much offence depends on your ability to stay alive. If you find yourself dying over again consider getting gear that gives more toughness and vitality.
By the time you get to level 80 you should have a feel of what you’ll want for your Thief.
Some of those achievements are easily griefable, such as the one with the Howling King. Plus that it goes against what the players are supposed to be doing during the encounters. A lot of players have trouble staying alive during these encounters, I wouldn’t want any of them dragging the team down because they want to shoot for a pointless achievement.
It would also cause a bunch of nagging by achievement kittens who’ll constantly ask the team to accommodate to their wants in order to get the achievements. I’d much rather have the team focus on just getting the dungeon done (there’s already enough nagging going on in PUGs when it comes to skipping vs. killing), and no more than that.
They don’t give loot either. Probably to prevent people from farming them.
Most of the hammers are way too small unfortunately.
Like rolling over the enemy without facing much resistance?
For levelling I mostly stuck to Power, Condition Damage and Precision.
For my final build I went for mostly Power, Condition Damage and Vitality (Carrion-type gear), with some Toughness (Knight-type gear).
They continue to add gambling because people continue to fall for it.
The only solution is for players to stop buying anything gambling related from the gem store.
I wouldn’t go with Guardian if you want something with mobility.
Hmm? not sure what you mean. My guard is more mobile than even my mesmer. 2x group run skills. With 2H mastery you can almost perma speed a group.
When I think mobility, I don’t mean the ability to get speedboosts. In combat the Guardian isn’t moving a whole lot compared to some other classes. The commonly used greatsword lowers your movement when using spin attack. Sure, it has a leap attack, but which profession doesn’t? He simply doesn’t have many skills that move him around, much less a need to move around since he can easily face-tank most mobs in the game.
Dual dagger Elementalist gets plenty of mobility, plus you’ll need to stay on the move to actually survive in close range.
Same would go for Thief, playing daggers.
All good advice, but mobs do have distance closers. Flame legion swordsmen have a very annoying leap and knockdown ability, as do some human hammer npcs (admittedly the latter is rare) – that execute in like half a second. I feel like that leap+knockdown is more or less death for any thief.
Thiefs have fair amount of stun breaks, though. Roll for Initiative is amazing.
Or Shadowstep, which stun breaks when you first use, then stun breaks again when chaining.
-Remove Agony from the game.
-Have a poll about either severely lowering the grind for Ascended, or just remove the items from the game (refunding players who have the items of course).
-If Ascended is to stay, make the items available for Crafting professions.
-Remove or completely disable Magic Find in dungeons.
-Remove all gambling from the gem store, and make it more like GW1’s cash shop.
-Completely re-designing the way Legendaries are obtained. Precursors and Legendaries would be account-bound upon find/creation. Design unique solo challenges for all 8 professions that reward the player with a precursor of their choice. No RNG involved. Obviously enough testing shall be done to make sure no exploits are possible in any way. The challenges should be difficult enough that only the very most skilled players are able to win them (let’s say, 1 in 100+ players average).
-Re-design dungeons and the reward system. Not going in depth cause it would be too long to typ out all of it.xD
-Big focus on fixing major bugs and game issues.

I wouldn’t go with Guardian if you want something with mobility.
Go with dual dagger Elementalist. High mobility, and plenty of skills that benefit both you and your party.
