I dunno, I don’t mind the traps or jumping bits so much, but it gets old very fast after a few times. Then there’s parts where one player messing up can waste the whole party’s time. For example, in the Giant fractals if the guy holding the hammer falls down, everyone needs to suicide to make the hammer spawn again. Or they’re 1 guy down until everyone is out of combat, because the one who fell cannot respawn during combat.
Or in the case of Harpy fractals, the team just continues to die from knockbacks if the people in the party aren’t prepared, which isn’t fun. It’s not even fun if the party is prepared, just wasting player time with annoying game mechanics.
The frog boss isn’t anything unique or special compared to other bosses in the game. The fight doesn’t require you to think. Once you know how it works, it’s dead easy, just like other bosses in the game.
You ask for ArenaNet to cater to people who want to solo or duo dungeons, because you don’t want to go with random people? Really? When they haven’t even finished the other 7 dungeon re-balances yet? Lol, talk about selfish. Dungeons were advertised as 5-man content way before game release, if you hate being with people that much, I wonder why you even got this game. Or why you think ArenaNet would make dungeons for solo/duo players when they’ve stated they’re going to be for 5 players years ago.
I’d rather first have them fix the sound for it. Extremely annoying to die because the sound never came, which is the hint when to dodge the laser.
I can’t live without Lightning Flash.xD
A small addition: in PVP ONLY, in PVE they need a lot of work/buffs and cannot do what a lot of other profs can do, or achieve similar results with a LOT more trouble, that makes the effort put into them not worth it. Fortunately with the upcoming WvW/PVE skill split they might start buffing Elementalist numbers to make them perform better, because it is fairly obvious that the reason Eles are in that (not so good) position is WvW.
I haven’t been following news much, but when/where did they state they’re going to split skills for WvW and Pve?
I’ve not had any problems finding parties for story mode using LFG. Recently did all story modes for a new character that I’ve been levelling.
I did get a party for AC explorable with my level 36 Mesmer pretty fast last week. I haven’t tried any more times, but it’s not that bad as long as you state that you are a lower level looking for a party I guess.
LOL had a good laugh about the spinning spikes. I guess I kinda agree. Weapons being flashy is OK. The crazy shoulder armor is kinda not. Well, for me. Those ginormous blades on the Medium Armor Human T3? SMH …Words fail me.
I guess I’m just hoping for more down-to-earth looking skins and I think there’s definitely an audience for that sort of style. More LotRO and less Pand-o.
It’s not like there’s not an option to turn off shoulder armour…
It’s not like there’s plenty of other, smaller shoulder armour available…
Some people just see 1 thing they don’t like, and then go on a complaining rampage that the whole game is a fail, and that there is no variety and that every player is a walking Christmas tree.
I did.
Finally a good purchase in the Gem Store that doesn’t involve RNG or gambling. These kind of convenience items are what I like, and what I will support.
So people can choose whether they want to grind a boss until it drops the item they’re looking for or pay for it and get it instantly?
Unless you only play 1 character, or give it a completely unique look, I don’t think it’ll ever be worth it.
It would be cool if you could combine Crafting professions to create unique items. Like combining light + heavy armour crafting to make heavy armour with a bigger focus on cloth over metal. Or light armour that has metal plates over cloth.
Why waste all that time double checking the stuff you put in there when you could have just banked it or put it for sale on the TP before continuing the Mystic Forge?
Not a lot of items are glowy or shiny. Personally I don’t mind them so much, some look pretty cool. Wish I could turn off the nightly glow on my Ascalonian Sword, though.xP I prefer the daytime look for that one.
I like Dynamic Events when I’m levelling a character, but for a maxed out character they get boring kinda quickly. Well, there are some good ones, but most of them are way too easy.
Light: Robes, but metal parts like shoulderpads or chestplate are cool.
Medium: Any nothing too generic leather armour works.
Heavy: Chainmail / Plate armour, some cloth parts.
In general, I don’t like anything that looks too generic or realistic, but I don’t like anything too flashy either. Something in between is good for me.
They have 6 eyes, kinda reminds me of Abaddon from GW1, are they part of Abaddon’s army? Is there any background information on Shades in GW2?
I hope so. I love the pickaxe.xP
really? Then why should I take twice as long (if not longer) to get into a CoF P1 group, because my main is not a zerker warrior or mesmer. Have you got kicked from any FOTM level 20+ groups because you are a thief/ranger/eng (those are not my main, but I’ve been in groups where the party leaders remove those classes)?
Oh no, you take twice as long to get into a group for the single most farmed dungeon path in the game. It’s not like there’s 8 × 3 other dungeon paths to run. Even so, finding a group for CoF path 1 usually doesn’t take more than 5 minutes anyway, as a non-Warrior/Mesmer. Compare that to the hours I’ve tried to find a party to PUG Fow or UW in a normal balanced team. Lol, I’ve never even been able to beat Dhuum, because there never were people teaming up for UW outside of SC’s with ridiculous requirements.
I’ve recently got my Thief up to level 80, only up to level 10 Fractals with him. Also have done a bunch of dungeons (different dungeons and paths) with him, and never have had a problem with my team. These teams also often consist of other Thiefs, Rangers (don’t see so many Engineers doing dungeons), and we’re doing totally fine.
While I hate gem store RNG, I guess it’s a good thing they have a lot of it as it’ll save me tons of money that I might otherwise have spent on useless shinies. I’ll never touch anything RNG based with my real money.
The game’s playerbase is still very healthy, although some areas are kind of empty. The more popular areas are pretty crowded (may depend on which server you play on, though). There’s been some content updates and class changes. You can check the Wiki for a list of all the changes. There are no OP classes, just pick whatever you like to play.
If you’re going to spec heavily in healing it’s better to get toughness over vitality. The more HP you’ve got, the weaker your heals become (healing less % of your total HP).
I wouldn’t ever put random stuff in it, maybe only if you’re shooting for a precursor (gigantic maybe here).
What’s BiS? Have no idea.
I have the full Dwayna karma set on my Elementalist with a combination of Knight, Cleric and Valkyrie trinkets. Works very well for me.
Costume Brawl in GW1 was awesome. I don’t get the appeal of it in GW2…
I find suggesting to try Kohler at least once and skip if we wipe works fairly well. There’s still a lot of groups that skip anyway, but some don’t mind giving it at least one try.
People are so accustomed to skipping mobs, that even if stuff drops good loot they don’t care, because they can skip it. If it’s skippable, it’s not worth fighting. Even if optional mobs would consistently drop precursors most groups would still blindly skip.
The other classes just can’t kill as fast as the warrior can. You can’t get some mobs and heap them all together and then easily mow them down while doging here and there. Everything is just so much slower, even on an eli. I thought, oh yeah, glass cannon, but I found that the best way was to go dagger/dagger and stick to earth…it was also a pain to get a new weapon and level 12 different skills -_-. Can’t they just look at the other classes and see how they can be more fun early on?
Strange, I played a Warrior up to level 10 and thought it was the most boring class to play. It’s just spam hundred blades and watch stuff die. I tried some of their other weapons, but they weren’t much more fun, and killed stuff slower.
Elementalist and Thief on the other hand are a lot more fun. Sure, they might not kill stuff as fast, but they have mobility, and both classes have plenty of fun skills.
Btw, if you play Elementalist, I’d strongly recommend learning to use all 4 elements in battle instead of sticking to only 1.
About gravelings, they have a lot less HP than before and there are only 2 of them which have knockdowns. The one that leaps and the one that tunnels, which does it in AOE (marked with a big red circle on the ground) and goes invulnerable for a long time after it ONLY IF someone is caught inside.
The champion gravelings still have a ton of HP, and go underground every few seconds. The chance they knockback someone is pretty big when fighting in the tight corridors were camera issues are a common problem, or while being knocked around by another Graveling mob (since there’s multiple gravelings in a group, and a lot of them can CC players). Not only do they knockback players when they popup from underground, but they have another knockback after they popped up and a player stands too close (why they do this, I have no idea, but it’s kitten annoying). Then there’s the problem with graveling champions going invulnerable for several seconds if they hit someone, which happens commonly. You only need 1 bad (or unlucky) player in your team to screw over the rest. Then they also avoid hits while attacking, making the thing even more annoying to kill. Sometimes I have trouble getting even 1 hit on them between their tunneling, invulnerability and avoids before they tunnel again.
I really didn’t mind killing the graveling groups in the corridors before the final bosses pre-patch (although even then they could get pretty annoying sometimes). Their current moveset is 10x more annoying to deal with, the 5 or so silver that they drop isn’t worth the pain. It’s no wonder literally every group’s skipping these now.
This is coming from someone who generally prefers killing mobs over skipping them.

I’ve grown to like the Fiery Greatsword. It’s pretty fun, does fair amounts of damage, and looks friggin’ awesome. It has its uses here and there. But yeah, a lot of the Elite skills just don’t feel that great. As a Guardian I don’t have anything that makes me feel epic when using it. As a Thief I get Dagger Storm which is pretty kitten cool. Mesmers get Time Warp, which is useful in a group setting, but not that interesting solo. Moa form… meh.xD
I PUG some dungeons (AC, CM, CoE, CoF etc.)
Thanks, I did right-click and report him for botting (closest it would get I guess), but had no recording tool ready at that moment. I guess I can still send an e-mail with including his character name.
Playing Thief is about dodging, though. That’s what the class is supposed to do.
Sounds like a pretty bad PvE class, then. You can’t do anything while dodgerolling in this game. There’s no other way to proc evades AFAIK. Being a class “about dodging” works for, say a Bear or Monk Tank, because you’re also able to do your DPS rotation while doing it. Not here.
Wrong. A Thief gets several skills with built-in dodges and evades. Shortbow 3 fires a crippling arrow while evading backwards. One of their healing skills makes you do a backwards dodgeroll. Roll for Initiative is a backwards dodgeroll that grants initiative (used to use more Thief skills with). Dual Daggers gives you Death Blossom which deals damage, stacks of bleeds and evades all at the same time. Then they also have 2 traits to add extra effects to their dodges.

Playing Thief is about dodging, though. That’s what the class is supposed to do. Way more than a heavy class than Warrior or Guardian. I think it’s good that classes are vastly different from the beginning, puts the player right into the class of their choice instead of going through the same generic levelling process the first half of the game.
I guess it’s all about preference, but I enjoyed levelling my Thief way more than I did my Guardian. The fact that it forced me to stay on the move was enjoyable for me, on the other hand, not having to move an inch to mow down mobs with my Guardian got pretty boring. Difficulty-wise it doesn’t make much of a difference as long as you know how to use your skills. I rarely died on my Thief unless I was way over-agro’ing or taking on stuff way above my own level.
I’ve done most dungeons and their paths without skipping, but after a few times there isn’t much point in killing the trash. Still I prefer to do so, especially some of the fun encounters like Kohler (that rewards a chest as well). But unless the other players in my party clearly state they are going to kill stuff I’m assuming we’re skipping as much as we can.
I guess I’m not the type to make long conversations, but I’m up for any dungeon if I have the time. Or willing to help in your story if you need. Feel free to PM me.
I’m in this dungeon with a player who is clearly using a speedhack. I see his character jumping all over the place, much faster than a normal player could ever do. How do I report him for it?
(edited by Milennin.4825)
Yeah, don’t expect too much variety at the lower levels. It gets better at higher levels, and at level 80 you’ll have plenty of choices.
I haven’t done this one, nor have I played Engineer yet, but if you want I can team up with you if you play on EU servers.
It’s funny how Mjölnir is still cooler than most Legendaries.=P
1. Gw2 has less quantity yet still redundancies are evident.
2. That is exactly what they could learn from… NO heroes and problem solved! You do have a point here where there were builds that hit mainstream but these were isolated cases depending on the area and situations. Variety still existed in Gw1 regardless.
Playing a PvE Warrior in GW1 there isn’t a huge amount of good choices, though. I can go for a Dragon Slash build (good in areas with enemies spaced out), a Hundred Blades build (good for areas with lots of mob packs), or maybe a Triple Chop axe build (same purpose as 100-blades build). Other than that there aren’t many other builds for a PvE Warrior that are really efficient or good at what they do.
That’s 3 builds I can use on a character vs. plenty of stuff I can use on my GW2 Warrior. Now I haven’t played much on my GW2 Warrior yet, but I do know the amount of weapons they can choose from. I’m sure there are at least 3 different sets that are effectively used on a Warrior (seeing lots of players using greatswords, rifles, some axes, some swords). Then there’s some different utility in use, such as shouts or banners and their supporting traits.
As a GW1 Elementalist my choices were even worse. In easy-mode people only brought Fire Elementalists, because fire nukes stuff fastest. In hard-mode the Aeromancer was more effective because of high armour ratings on mobs. Or you could go as a protection monk with ER (although I prefer leaving that to my hero, otherwise I would’ve chosen to play Monk class).
Sadly Water and Earth very rarely saw any use. Earth was mostly used for a few niche farming builds, and Water maybe for snaring the runners for the bonus in one of those Nightfall missions.
In GW2 I have choices between vastly different playstyles on my Elementalist. I can go the hyper-active elemental ninja route using dual daggers. Or the more classic and passive staff user. Or something in-between with focus-scepter or focus-dagger.

Looks like a pay to win item. On the other hand it costs 22.3 gold worth of gems. You could buy 557 orichalcum picks for that.
And if a new ore better than ori comes out it will be obsolete. It would be pay to win if it was better/stronger/could do other things than items available in-game.
That is not the case.Def not pay to win in any respect. it is not cost efficient and not mroe powerful than normal items.
you would buy this for the, in my opinion, awesome visual effect when mining with it.
I bought it because I’m lazy and like the convenience. I didn’t even know about the extra animation until I saw it. It is a nice plus, though.=P
Since they’ve talked about one day increasing the level cap…
Got a link to that? I’d like to see what ANet actually said.
They did in several pre-launch interviews years ago. If you dig around in some old gaming news sites you can find it yourself.
GW1: Elementalist, Warrior
GW2: Elementalist, Guardian
Bought the Collector’s Edition, some gems on outfits, inventory slots and the molten pickaxe. A fair amount, but nothing insane.
and here you’re reversing the roles.
both Berserker and MF gear is gear that is very hard to use, because you’re sacrificing vitality and toughness. If a person manages to survive with it instead of sitting on the ground they are not a bad player.
I’m sure that letting the team carry you is considered skilful. You don’t want to know often I get in teams with Warriors or Thiefs that drop down 10 times faster than my Elementalist in a dungeon party. Or when you have that guy that proudly states how great MF is, and that they don’t need the extra stats because their class is so great at surviving, but then spend the rest of the time dead in a Lupicus encounter, while the rest of the team is working to get him up again. Yeah…
I have no problem with Orr. Some places look really nice there.
Broken here in Gandara.
I did it a few days or weeks ago on another character just fine.
I’d so demand a refund if the pickaxe only works for a limited time, lol.xD
What I’d like to know though, is until when you can buy the Molten Pickaxe.
Probably until the end of the current Living Story thing.
