I also agree with this. Can we have what was promised for HoT … the stuff that we BOUGHT ALREADY … before the next expansion? o.o

If it’s promised again in the next expansion, then wouldn’t it be paying for things twice?

Medium armor. My main is a thief and finding good armor is a struggle-bus all the way through. I’m really trying to stay away from bum flaps and trenchcoats but for some reason devs keep pushing those on us ._.

I suggest the Krytan top. I used 500 gems to buy the Krytan armor set and only use the top. Completely worth it.

What to do meantime besides Personal Story?

Minx.7521

You know, now that I think about it, I finally got past the learning curve in TD. After months and months of getting lost. Finally.

But yes, if you want to unlock all ascended story backpacks, AB ascended backpack, and Hivemaster for TD, you pretty much have to grind. I completed the personal story for 9 different classes and got DS fully explored for all 9. After that, I got enough HPs for them to get specialization classes. Then I completed the AB backpiece collection and Hivemaster.

And finally, after all THAT, now I’m working on the rest of the specialization collections and the last story backpiece while trying to get enough map currency so I can unlock all the Machined collections.

^That’s what I’ve been working towards for the last few months. There’s not much new content for you todo if you’ve done everything once, but HoT expansion is all about doing and re-doing timed events. It’s about farming to get your stuff, and it’s a great timesink if you think it’s worthwhile

edit: this whole repeatable stuff makes getting mastery xp really easy. if you have the patience for it, try to get gold in all the adventures too :P

Very addicted! Yet.. very newbie.

WvW = dead.
PvP = half dead because of bugs + terrible matching system.
PvE = timed maps and a LOT of grinding. I don’t mind the grinding, I think it’s relaxing so it’s OK but if you want to complete the HoT collections you have to redo the same content 9x, once for each class.

I love the unlimited ones, personally. I only bought 1 set, and that set is on my main. If I wanted to use them between characters, I would put it in my Account-Wide-Slots. When they came out and were on sale, I spent about 600 gold to convert to gems to buy 5 slots. That’s 3 tools’ space and 2 more. I don’t see a problem with the unlimited ones at all.

New Player, should I get HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Minx.7521

Like someone suggested, get 80 first. Make sure you explored all of Tyria first. Get your personal story done.

AND THEN, get HoT. I found that to complete specialization collections, you have to have 9 characters, each a different specialization. It takes a long time, even with 9 lvl 80s, to get all the HPs needed, get an HoT map completion, and get enough currency to do collections.

The biggest win for HoT was HoT masteries. Gliding is superb and auto-loot will change yo life. If you really care about quality of life in your gameplay, HoT is a must after you hit lvl 80 and did map completion. If you’re buying HoT for the collections, get SEVERAL lvl 80s before you buy. If you’re buying HoT for “new maps” and “new material”, wait till it goes on sale.

^^^ My 2 cents.

The most helpful thing I found was summons. Summon the crap out of your class. For the classes that does not have summons (such as rev), ask a friend to come along. Ask that friend to have summons. Nowadays, rangers can res like crazy and necros can basically just run around the place and their summons will kill everything. No point in bringing 5 people, just you and a summoner.

P.S. I solo’d that one as an engi, and I absolute loathe playing engi, by having turrets.

I was running low on mastery points (I needed about 24 mastery points) but I got those easily enough once I started doing adventures. I just really didn’t want to do adventures :P But if you’re going for the Hive Master achievement, you might as well get silver in those adventures. So those are a really good source of MPs.

Another way I got my needed MPs (and now extra ones) is by completing the little stuff in maps. Spend a little more time in TD + AB to get the tiny achievements outa the way Get APs + MPs. I thought this part was really fun and rewarding (and I also learned a lot more about TD while doing this).

Every class, even elementalist, will feel slow after playing a Daredevil. It’s almost unreal how much playing one has altered my perspectives to the point where I just feel like a turtle whenever I log on to my elementalist, a class I mained for years.

Unhindered combatant alone is insane, not only with the distance the animation travels, but the fact that it gives you perma swiftness without needing anything else. If you make a build that mixes Daredevil with the new revamped Acrobat line and roll mostly Physical skills, you have potential for endless endurance.

Yea, this speed is why they nerfed thieves to the underworld and I still love it ;_; It was horrible switching to Guardian to run high fractals. Was horribler switching to Necro after that.

I find that as long as mesmers can deal out some damage and not in Nomad’s gear, it’s all good.

Mesmers can mainly add to the group dynamic and help in speed runs by their utilities: blink + port, alacrity, the thing that copies boons to your team. There’s probably a lot more that I don’t know about, but those are the few that I’ve noticed while playing with some top-top-top-notch mesmers on high levels.

Many people left because of HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Minx.7521

Minx.7521

When HoT first came out, it got my guild up to 80-100 people a night for the first time in almost three years. It lasted like a week before it was down to 40, then another three weeks down to about 20. Now it’s down to 4-8. And I’m not talking about people representing the guild, just members that are logged in.

This was just an all around terribly designed expansion, that, even if it were better designed, did not have sufficient content to justify it’s purchase price. In fact, when you take in to account the amount of ‘expansion features’ that the developers stated they were planning to add to the base game before an expansion was ever released, it basically has no features at all save specializations and gliding.

Yeap. But they’ll all come back one day … when Anet stops this 2-hour-map streak they’re on. It’s not bad with 0 bugs. With the huge amount of bugging out with D/C issues, it’s terrible.

I’ve never seen as much people on map as now, maybe the people playing GW2 are too busy playing it to complain on the forum?

It’s just what I heard. No need for smartback comments.

I’m just curious because I only started GW2 in September or late August. Not sure if it was bigger before or not.

Ignore the sassy salty comments that doesn’t add constructive value :P
Also, my guild is pretty empty chat-wise. A lot of people left because it’s the beginning of the school year, so good for them for placing school first! When summer comes, I expect a good amount of people to come back.

Reason #2 for lack of people from my usually-active guild is the game Blade & Soul. Once they get bored of that game I also expect them to come back :P

Once Black Desert comes out, I’m expecting more people to go there, but I think GW2 is a game that people at least come back once in a while. But yea, as far as I’ve noticed, there’s been a severe decrease in players.

The main issues with T4 day/night in VB is with the Mellagan’s Swirl or w/e far west WP that is. What I did to help was to taxi in people at the beginning of day cycle with the clear intention of doing that series of events. Once that cycle gets completed and people stay for T4 night (with constant taxi’ing from map), it should be easy enough to complete with clear communication.

If someone feels the need to create a thread on the forums and call HoT a “failure” because the maps are “annoying” and “confusing” (lol next time Anet should release a 2d super-mario map just for you), and because he dies 3 times to a boss, then he’s a scrub. Sorry noway else to put it.

If someone rage-quit the game day#1 because he could not get his flying mastery, then he’s a scrub.

Again, HoT maps are not another 4 vanilla-like GW2 maps. We had enough afk#1 content already.

If a content is annoying because it’s fully of bugs, which even bring difficulty to a full group as a solo content, then it’s totally right to call this content a failure before they fix it.

Since when did Elitsts start to defend bugs?

Since forever. Whenever someone complains about an issue, whether it be D/C, lag, bugging out making instances impossible, some people ALWAYS blame the player for something they did. It’s sad really, because it takes the pressure off of the developers to fix bugs.

Well then, once again, the Shroud #4 is perfect for pulling newbs out of danger. The mini-master route is AWESOME at lvl 94, when you can hold a side by yourself. Your elite summon can block projectiles for Old Tom for your teammates. Necros are great protectors (even rivaling Guards).

A valuable ability of necros that you need to prioritize: MINIONS!

You can do wonders when you can keep damage off teammates by spawning an unholy army of the undead ^.^ People mostly look at damage output to determine the value of a class, but having these unique class side-quirks sometimes can be super helpful too!

With the current 50-100 climb, I’d say power necros are fine. That Shroud #4 pull-heal is top-keks whether you want to troll or want to help/reposition a teamie.
For dailies, necros are FINE, not the best, not the funnest, not the most helpful, but not a thief either.

Well, for people with real jobs, this sounds a like a heck of alot of ‘scheduling’. What every happened to spontaneous fun? I wouldn’t be surprised if Anet implemented a punch clock..so people can just punch their little play cards, play the predefined x amount of hours and get their precious wage, err, loot.

Well except for DS, you can do any map at any time. The times I listed were simply when the maps transitioned between phases.

That’s our point, we don’t want to play to a clock, so technically you can’t do any map at any time. Otherwise you could jump on a TD map and do grenth at any time, but you can’t. These maps should have been player driven like SW. Sadly timers seem to be ANets thing. Which is….. Well you know what I think.

Can you jump onto any map and do a world boss at any time? How about an Orr temple?

Yes, we could do that. Not at any time, but at a lot of times. It was player/event driven, but not on fixed timers.

Only with the implementation of the megaservers a lot of world bosses were pulled out of their event chains and were put on a fixed time schedule.

Sadly, this kind of timers seems to be A-Nets thing.

P.S. Not all timers are bad. I liked the timer of “Escape from LA”. You had a 45 minute event and a 15 minute break (or 50/10? maybe) and the timer was part of the story and does not felt arbitrary.

I totally agree with you here and as a matter of fact I made a post about this year(s?) ago when they first introduced the timers to bosses and mega servers. If ANet was trying to give the semblance of a player driven world, they should not have gone with timers IMO. With changes such as these they take the feeling of conquest over a major hurtle, to being no more than a waiting game, and that in return removes the epic feel completely.

The exception you noted was a good one BTW, but it seems they sadly decided to make it the norm.

+1.

Also, you should bring back your post on timers. You explained my sentiments almost exactly and thank you.

My favorite part about this post is how the comments both suggest that YOU did something wrong. LOL. These are the reasons why Anet says “meh” to fixing their crash problem (because people are really quick to blame the player, even when you stated the facts).

Also, the crash problem has now spread to Tequatl and core Tyria content. There are anti-DC groups for Teq maps now because people crash mid-Teq. It’s a serious issue and they do need to look into it. But for now though instead of HoT, you can either farm Wintersday grinding bells/JP or their e-sportz, both give decent rewards and have a time limit before they disappear. Hopefully by end of e-sportz season they’ll have fixed the issue

achievements now confirmed working on all lanes just hold dmg and kill in 3rd.

Sound like badly designed achievements if they force you to play bad. Especially in open world environments where other people do what they want.

Seriously what the hell. This is a little similar to how you have to FAIL events to get some achievements for precursor collection. It’s going to promote people yelling at other people to stop attacking. Good one, Anet, way to get players to aggro against each other.

This is so that people can’t cheese all 4 achievements in one run :P

that’s easy enough to fix. They did this fix in SW. Give players a lane specific buff as soon as they kill an egg/give golem energy/stomp a shroom/kill invading char in scar that prevents them from getting cred rlsewhere. Just like the SW extractor boss specific buffs. That way a player has to do at least one pre-gherent spawning phase event for achieve and can’t do others.

Yeah that would work!

Yea it’s tested and proven to work well enough for SW :| wtf. Just re-implement it, Anet likes to redo stuff (looking at you wintersday >.>)
