How long till people understand that you’re NOT supposed to grind or farm? You will not get diminishing returns unless you sit there doing the same thing for hours. Which is not even fun!So why do you people do it? Want a good income? Rotate what you do. Do dungeons, then WvW, then events, then kill something. Why can some make money and some go to the forums to whine?
…and people will leave for another, non P2W, game.
So GW2 is now P2W? o.O
Gems->money->everything in TP
Yes, it is P2W.
so essentially you think because the option is there it’s pay to win? What is it with you kids? Have you ever actually seen a pay to win?
Perfect World – fast flyers, good armor and everything else that aids you is ONLY available if you buy it with real money.
THAT is pay to win.
Now Guild Wars 2, like Planetside, makes you able to buy certain things with real money, however you have no real advantage over the players that earned it by playing. That’s not pay to win. That’s an optional shop.
To be honest I don’t think that you should farm. Have a healthy rotation of what you do. WvW for an hour, kill enemies for an hour and then do a dungeon run. Rewards will be plenty. DR is not about forbidding you from making profit. It’s about forcing you not to stand there killing the same enemy for days. Having in mind that it’s not fun to even do so I don’t know why anyone besides bots would even want that. Play the game to have fun and money will get there at its own pace.
Now about nodes – the only champion that I’ve seen around a node, was a champion karka around rich ori. I used someone else as a distraction to get my ori. Didn’t escape, but hell repairs cost so much less than why I just earned there.
If everything was easier to get we wouldn’t see a better economy, we would see a decrease of prices making it harder to actually earn money.

I don’t think that you know what pay to win means or have ever even seen a single pay to win game. I have 2 level 80s with full exotics, not a single cent was spent on gems and no I did not grind. All I did was collect everything on my way trough the zones and increase my magic find. Both money and tier 6 items are not a problem to me. On top of that I never actually needed the best gear tier to be able to do dungeons and level 80 zones on my level 80. Where exactly did I need to pay to win?
Also Tera Online is doing quite well as an MMO.Did you miss the memo about vertical progression going forward?
I still don’t see how the progression is vertical if I can skip exotic on my newer chars and I don’t oppose gameplay. If you choose NOT to play and pay millions for it it’s your choice. You will not have an advantage over people who played though. The same way in Planetside – you can pay to level up, but in the long run it won’t give you an advantage.
I’m wondering if my excitement for this title was misplaced as well.
These aren’t just bad luck or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There’s no such thing as a completely random loot table algorithm, people suggesting that really don’t know the inner workings of mathematics in their current state. Mathematically, we have been unable to produce an equation that is completely randomized and they definitely do not use such algorithms in games like these, so when it comes to loot there is always a manipulation of +-. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Secondly, their silence is either on purpose because they know they did something wrong, on purpose because they made a huge boo boo in manipulating the loot tables and don’t want to confirm it for the public with an apology, or on purpose because they did it to actually make people buy more gold directly from them with the gems. All three are wrong, we need an answer so we can get it resolved and ignoring it won’t make it go away. It’s far too wide spread a problem. My husband hasn’t seen a single unid dye since they made this change and all he gets are whites while leveling his ranger.
And finally, why is it that we can’t get word on what’s happening with the glaring problems in classes like Engineers for example? I follow the devs forums all the time and have seen nothing regarding engineer bugs misses and kit’s underpowered issues at all.
0 communication makes us all think you don’t care for the concerns of your customers.
Um, what do you think? This is a Pay to Win game. NO SUBS. They intentionally messed with the drop table to MAKE YOU GO TO SPEND RL MONEY. It’s a dirty and cheap thing to do but this is NCSoft and ANet after all… Let’s not act surprised. Blizz is notorious for that with D3 until it majorly backfired in their faces. We should know by now all of they filthy tactics to make you spend money. It will eventually backfire on them as ppl will just leave and tell others not to spend money on this game. It will end up LIKE ALL OF THE REST OF THEIR FAILURES. Look at Tera Online – Tera who Yep, these companies haven’t learned yet, due to pure corporate greed, that if you screw over the players – you’re going down faster than a kitten down the toilet…

Also Tera Online is doing quite well as an MMO.Congratulations your gear is now obsolete, time to go grind some ascended gear, then the next tier after that all the way up to legendary armor
having in mind how it will be introduced trough out a YEAR and will be available in all possible shapes and forms, I can’t wait to craft mine. And it still does not make it pay to win, unless you will want to put in 0 work for your gear.
Oh, what content do you need to pay extra for before you can play it then? Must have missed something.
Au contraire, the cash shop doesnt offer me anything I want. So even if I want to buy gems, I wouldnt know what to do with them.
paid tournaments!? of course you can get tickets by winning free tournaments (theoretically possible) and grinding daylies:) it is a fine line anet is crossing… im wondering whats next? will it cost to rent a room in pvp? how much? of course you will also have freedom to do 100 other things to get your room, but if you dnt feel like it, gem shop!
If you level your PvP standing you get tournament tickets. I already have an odd amount of them stacked on my bank. So essentially you need to play PvP to get into tournaments. That’s exactly how it should be.
Thanks for the explanation.
I can see how this works for Call of Duty for example. But for an MMO, that is supposed to be long-term enjoyment, this would be shooting themselves in the foot. No one would ever buy something from them again. Ever.
I honestly think Anet isnt stupid enough to choose a course like that. Which brings me to my second question: why do you think anet would choose a course like this?
Which AAA MMO have you participated in for the last 5 tears has given you “long term enjoyment” ? Swtor ? DCUO ? LotRO ? AoC? WAR ?
I can’t name a single one apart from WoW and EVE, and they’ve been going for 10 yrs. MMO companies have discovered that the easy bucks are based around hype and a quick turnaround
and that’s why ArenaNet is still hosting Guild Wars 1 servers. Because they’re all about the profit.
I did not see how Guild Wars 2 is monetized. So far I’ve not spent a single cent on gems and it did not cripple my experience in this game at all. I was able to enjoy all the content offered by the patches and now am waiting for Wintersday. I’ve even see bug fixes (my level 45 story that was broken got fixed).
Imo, it’s like there are two phases to this game: pre-80 and post-80. Pre-80, all you care about is leveling, gathering, crafting, enjoying the content and story (as best as you can >.>), enjoying the scenery, doing a few dungeons for the heck of it, etc without really planning too much. Post-80, you now try to set yourself a goal, be it a legendary, t3 cultural, a few lvl 80 alts, your exotic gear, your fancy exotic gear, ascended gear, wvw, etc. These things will undoubtedly take up a great deal of time, much more than pre-80. These things also focus more on numbers (amount of gold/karma/badges/loot/tokens you have), as well as imo, more “hardcore” playstyle (farming, doing multiple dungeon runs, planning out how best to achieve your goal, etc).
Now, both parts are important and fun. However, imo, pre-80 and content available for pre-80 (disclaimer: i’m not saying it’s a strict gameplay change once you hit 80, I’m saying that there is a change and you might notice it) is sufficient for casual players who only have a few hours a day/week to play.
Also, accdg to anet, no one likes grinding, and imo they did a good job leveling you to 80. There are only very few instances where I felt leveling was a grind (maybe a total of 5-10 levels). They made it short as well so you don’t feel like a grind.
best answer that anyone could give in my opinion.
What would you desire more to have in your group: a Guardian or a Warrior?
Guardians can be pretty kitten good tanks, so I choose a guardian.
Why would anyone design a game where 80% can be completed solo but, not the last 20%?
Because it’s an MMO is not an excuse!
it kind of is. Ever watched anime Sword Art online? The main dude talks about the minuses of soloing everything a lot.
Secondly, do you know a single MMO which you CAN solo 100%?
1. Consoles have aim support, console gamers would have an advantage against PC gamers with the automatic lock on a target.
2. This game graphically is advanced. Porting it would mean dropping its quality significantly.
I never understand these sort of threads…
if you don’t enjoy playing with others, why play an MMO? Pick something like skyrim instead, there you have all the fun of a big pretty explorable world without the need to group
Why would anyone design a game where 80% can be completed solo but, not the last 20%?
Because it’s an MMO.
To be honest this one is a bit of everything.
- you can solo almost every map and most of your story.
- dungeons and fractals is extra content. You don’t have to do it. Me as a solo player I chose to group up with different people for dungeons numerous times. Because dungeons are fun for me.
- you can always WvW and PvP instead of dungeons.
“ArenaNet is proud to work with the best partners in the gaming industry to support Guild Wars 2 and to sponsor events and contests for our fans.”
https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/partners/
Thanks again, but “event sponsorship & partnership” still does not equal monitoring of server population caps.
Again sadly, I’m seeing no evidence to support your claims.
do you think that their partners allow them to do what they want to do? Cheating your own system can cost you a lot in the business world. I doubt arena.net is stupid enough to risk going broke.
I crafted my exotics and found enough transmutation stones to transmute my armor later. Tier 3 light cultural armor is my goal for my asura right now. They could drop the price, but it would be a bit upsetting to those that already set out to get it for their looks. It would make getting really good looking armor so much easier and make it less unique.
@ Mirta. Thanks for the links. But the link you supplied for sponsors, is for Guild Wars-Prophecies etc. NOT GW2.
http://www.guildwars.com/events/press/partners/default.php
Sadly, from the evidence you’ve supplied, your claims remain unsubstantiated, are merely hearsay and your assurances are meaningless.
Thanks for the reply.

Except that they sponsor both games.

Well I can prove that Diessa Plateau on the Underworld server was far from dead for that half an hour that I played today. Yesterday I posted pictures with my calendar on screen, in those pictures you could not only see the server selection, you could also see that my Antarte was level 22. Take my level as a time reference.
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/7761/gw068d.jpg
People on the map chat: 1. Undestructeble 2. Potomuchto 3. The Last Song (top of the chat, you can barely make it out, but you still can)

So I can prove that I met or indirectly seen 13 people in 30 minutes in one zone. Normally I always see 10 to 30 people a zone no matter when I connect to the server. I can and probably will photograph other areas for you people. (Rata Sum was steaming with people yesterday, but I decided not to photograph, I should have). But I’m fairly certain that the game is not dying and every zone has some people on it.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6915/99384436.png
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9392/52397020.png1. They’re not allowed to alter such information, because they’re being checked by more than one company. If they altered their own information there would already be a case about it. So no, don’t tell me that the information is altered.
2. I’m seeing people EVERYWHERE.The game is not dying. Snap out of it.
For sure, and thats the reason under the numbers in third independent sources….
If you take for example Xfire you could find a non stop raising in the numbers of players… oh wait…
http://beta.xfire.com/games/gw2
And now you could shout about Xfire being a non valid source, but please when you make it put a better source of number of players (and not the Anet load in the servers btw)
How many people that are playing Guild Wars 2 are using Xfire? You can only measure the percentage of people that allow to be measured. Example: I have Xfire for streaming, but I haven’t even switched it on for half a year and I did not register guild wars 2 on it. I could be better measure with steam, me having 200 games on that, but even then I did not associate Guild Wars 2 with it, because I couldn’t be bothered. So in total, no measurement is accurate, because it’s not measuring all players. It can be measuring as low as 5% – 10% of the players.
you see statement that one gear step changed it all is the same as yelling “the sky is falling”
Compare Ascended with Exotic. What does exotic have that ascended has not? Upgrade slots. If you use best jewelry to upgrade your exotics then they outgear ascendeds (that’s why ascended has better starting stats – it can not be upgraded)The ascended trinkets comes with stats equivalent to an ascended item with and ascended jewelry upgrade in them, AND a slot for infusion which can get stats.
and yet on stats it is lower than a highest exotic with an upgrade…
@ OP. Yes. ANets’ ongoing moving of the goalposts (i.e. loot nerfs, DR etc.) are sucking the fun out of GW2 for me.
@ Mirta. You make a couple of interesting claims in some of your posts;
“low about 2000 people
med – between 5000 and 10 000 people
high is 10 000 people
full cap is about 15 000 or so me thinks.”&
“they’re being both sponsored and monitored by other companies. If they had seen such fluctuation ArenaNet would get in a lot of trouble.”
Could you provide sources please? Otherwise these claims are merely hearsay.
Many thanks.
full sponsor list: http://www.guildwars.com/events/press/partners/default.php They both sponsor and are being sponsored. I assure you, their actions are being monitored. If ArenaNet makes a wrong move and cheats they’ll lose partners. Bad for business.
The numbers themselves though I based of Planetside and the amount of people a server can hold these days. A lot of games use a similar server system and 15 000 would be the max it can hold.
The only way we could know anything close to the REAL numbers is if we all at some point filled out a poll. So far the only poll that I’ve found was this:
http://www.asuralabs.com/serverPoll.php
Close to a 1000 to 3000 people from every server filled it. However that’s it. We can only know how many people that filled it are registered to a specific server.
Game has NOT changed
The game not going downhill is subjective, so I won’t argue there. You don’t think it is, and so to you that’s true. But the game not changing is not subjective- it HAS changed. It went from a gear plateau, story driven horizontal progression game to a gear driven, vertical progression game. All with 1 patch.
That’s as big of a change as an MMO can get…
you see statement that one gear step changed it all is the same as yelling “the sky is falling”
Compare Ascended with Exotic. What does exotic have that ascended has not? Upgrade slots. If you use best jewelry to upgrade your exotics then they outgear ascendeds (that’s why ascended has better starting stats – it can not be upgraded). The only reason to get ascended is agony resistance – something used only in Fractals level 10 and high level dungeons. Where do you get ascended? In dungeons. So complaining that you need to get it (even though anyone that chooses to run those dungeons will, I ran 3 fractals and already have the mists vial, enabling me to make an ascended item) is funny, because to get it you essentially only need to do what it is used for – run dungeons. However the inability to upgrade ascendeds with anything else besides agony resistance makes them inferior to exotics, so really your game, if you don’t run fractals, has not changed a bit. So indeed, sky is not falling.
How has the game gone uphill then? There are less people playing and everyone is shuffling themselves to that new dungeon. So much harder to get a group to do any PvE content that is non dungeon.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/6915/99384436.png
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9392/52397020.pngThere’s just as much people playing as there was.
If I want to do an event, all I need to do is yell about it on the map chat. I’m seeing plenty of people and we got new content. How did it go downhill?Actually, this was explained by an Arenanet employee that it isn’t indicative of how many players are actively online at that time.
I’m referring to how before Nov15, there was the ever present issue of player congestion in Orr, and that there was simply no reason to go elsewhere in the game. Arenanet’s solution, to introduce FotM, simply solidifies this problem by adding another tier of loot only accessible via one dungeon in the game, with horrendous grind. There’s simply no-one in the mid level areas, and with good reason too.
Then why am I actually seeing people in the mid level areas? No matter what zone I went to there were still people doing events with me. There is still the same population. In level 70-80 zone people are still doing Claw of Jormag in big numbers. You can catch groups doing events in level 50 zones… The only less populated place is 2/3 maps of Orr and even then I’ve seen 6 people there. Starter areas are booming in population too.
I want to see a time stamp on those photos or your just making crap up. Anyone can post a photo and claim it’s from a certain time when it doesn’t have a time stamp.

Its not indicative of online players. Just players ‘living’ in the server. A CC dev said this, take that how you will, it wasn’t a very well written post though.
then why does it fluctuate daily/ nightly/ weekly?

They can change the number of people to make it show high at anytime though.
If numbers dip you can change high at 2000 to 1250 to high to give the impression of volume. Numbers lie
they’re being both sponsored and monitored by other companies. If they had seen such fluctuation ArenaNet would get in a lot of trouble. Plus these numbers fluctuate when measured nightly/ daily and on weekends depending on how many people are logged in. Today seems a busy night.
Do you know what Low, Med, High, Full pop ranges are? Because I sure don’t.

Gold isn’t the problem. If everything you need to make things costs mats, then the problem is the mats. They don’t drop nearly enough.
My suggestion to solve this issue:
-Increase drop rates of t6 mats by around 10-15%
-Dragon chests drop 2-5 t6 matsDone, should solve A LOT of problems.
then mats will be devalued and its price will drop significantly damaging the economy, making it harder to make money. In high level areas I can get 15 to 30 gossamer scaps by salvaging. Orr had it raining tier 6 mats for me as well. Now I have enough totems and venom sacs to make a few pairs of exotics. The only drop rate that is problematic for me is ecto.

im on sorrows furnace log in around 5pm pst btw nothing was empty except malchors leap untill plinx nerf
So it’s American servers having a population problem then?
for the past 3 days i have found more enjoyment surfing the forums here and writing posts that i have in gw2 ad havent even logged in in 2 days. at least sitting here is more entertaining than siting in la looking for group for fractals since i cant farm for gold or run de’s due to lack of population in level 80 areas.
what is your server? When do you log on? How come you see plenty of unpopulated areas and I don’t?

you sure about that? because simple prediction methods will lead you to thinking that they will add legendary armors and trinkets to make them compatible with the weapons.
all orange -> all pink -> all violet?
don’t go for all pink, unless you’re doing dungeons only. Ascended can’t have upgrades and exotics with full upgrades are indeed better on stats.
Now to the topic – don’t farm gold. The game was not intended for farming, hence DR – every hour change your location if you want to actually farm, otherwise run dungeons, play WvW or do dragon events.

1. They’re not allowed to alter such information, because they’re being checked by more than one company. If they altered their own information there would already be a case about it. So no, don’t tell me that the information is altered.
2. I’m seeing people EVERYWHERE.
The game is not dying. Snap out of it.
1. The game is far from dying. Almost all servers are either full or high population
This depends on the server limits. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Nowadays high/full is like yesterday’s low.
Exactly. No way 2/3 of the server are “high”. ROFLMAO
Let’s alter the data to make it look like our game is thriving in general when in fact only about 1/3 of the servers are and probably another 1/3 are game-breaking desolate.

2. If they would lower the population cap wouldn’t that mean that they would need to open more servers?
3. Like you can see I’m currently in high population server. Guess what? I’m seeing 10 to 30 people a ZONE. Where are you exactly that it’s that empty?

I like the possibility of exploring every race and class. So far I have 4 alts:
Main elementalist asura level 80
Alt necromancer sylvari level 80
Alt norn thief level 20
alt human ranger level 15
alt charr warrior level 3 that has so far only been used in PvP
I tend to do dungeons on my level 80 and I re-experience the fun in leveling on my lower levels. I’m able to do all professions. My level 80s can get high level mats for my low levels to work with, my level 80s can share their money with my low levels. I figured out my faw race, class and my favorite zones. Still when all of those hit level 80 I’ll probably get enough gold to buy gems, will get an extra character slot and start yet another asura. After all I still have engineer, guardian and a mesmer to try out
A few nights ago 800 gems was worth sbout 8g. Looks like you had bad timing. Lol
the gold – gem exchange is very unstable. A week ago my bf logged on at nighttime on a European server just to find that at that precise hour you could exchange 50s for 100 gems. In an hour it once again rose to 3 gold for 100 gems.
Somehow I’m still able to catch people in every zone that I go to. Lion’s Arch is always on overflow of course, but I’ve hit the notifications that WvW is full too and also have seen plenty of people leveling from scratch again. When I joined my server at the start of the game the population was medium and it doesn’t look like it has fallen in those 3 months at all.
And please do tell me why you think LA and WvW has more players than in other zones. Though I’d also like an answer to why other zones are left out empty. Thank you
Because most of us reached level 80, explored the full map and decided instead of investing time grinding the zones with our level 80s to do something fun and run dungeons, do fractals, play in WvW and PvP. And like I said, I’m yet to see a SINGLE empty zone. I thought that the norn town was empty. Then I’ve seen how many people are waiting and playing the barrel scoring game. I’ve entered seemingly low population areas, only to hear about an event, rush there and find 30 more people. The fact that you don’t see them on a map that’s 2 times bigger than a WoW map does not mean that they’re not there. Try yelling about an event on a map chat.
It would have to be Guardian. Warriors have more health, but if you took the time and gave it a thought you’d realize why. It’s because a Guardian can potential fill their life twice easily. It’s what I do.
Guardians might start out with 15k, but when you can fill that twice (and probably then some) that becomes 45k. Where as the Warrior might have 20k or if hes totally topped up 36k (max buff/wvw) and you can fill it just a tad bit when you go to heal. Really as a Guardian you should shoot for 20k minimum life.
Not to mention the Guardian is constantly regenerating.
Now sit down and ask yourself why everyone is basing best off of life and survival. It’s because every kitten mob at level 80 hits to hard and has to many instant kills. So ever think maybe the game is just a bit unbalanced in some areas?
I say no its not that hard, i can easly survive as necromancer 26k health no unbalance i think its even to easy sometimes and i see warriors many times die while i have to revive them im doing most of time the kiting the boss becouse warrior dies alot when tanking.
Ya necros have the advantage of forms. Not to mention necros have the second highest life in the game after Warriors. So to say you find it easy I imagine so. Once again based on life. Unfortunately not ever other class has the ability to tank in alternate forms plus have the life of a warrior. Sorry to shoot your high horse in the leg.
Personally I would rank survival Guardian, Necro, then Warrior. Also most if not nearly all warriors are not “tank” specced.
It depends how you gear them too. My warrior geared with no vitality has more life than my necro with no vitality. Every time I enter a dungeon as a necro warriors for some reason imagine that I can tank. Squishy armor, no toughness and vitality makes me a bad tank. I can’t take hits. I can however hold the mobs off for a few minutes if all of the party feels like running with my pets (I love my pets) and I can inflict a nice amount of damage in my litch form (faw ability in the whole game), however if enemies would get too close to my person (and that happens when my pets expire quicker than I can re-call, or newly recalled pets decide not to hold aggro) I’m dead. Not a well specked warrior though.
I did spec my necro for pet and shadow form damage though. There are so much more damaging builds than that, still a necro, if you get close enough is squishy.
2. Dont use a staff.
3. Dont use fire.
5. O M G Toughness!
6. OMG Vitality ! YAY more HP!
7. Water does offer some healing, its small but it just may save your life.
I’m using an ele and here’s some of my thoughts on what you just wrote here
1. Staff is the best one for long range and condition damage with fire. An ele with a staff can beat an ele with a dagger, even though I prefer the daggers because they require you to do more moving around and give you a lesser range.
3. Fire is the most damaging spec that you can take. I wanted a pure damager so I went with air and fire, well fire beats air on every mob and player that doesn’t have resistance to fire. It’s all about how you play though, because earth will offer you nice AoE damage and water can offer you immortality.
5-6. Don’t EVER gear a squishy for toughness and vitality. You’re not a tank and you’re not going to tank. Go for precision, condition damage and critical chance if you want to be inflicting real damage, for magic find if you’re going to use the char for hording money in PvE and dungeons.
7. If you level Water properly it can offer you more than just a small heal. If you’re running with a group in WvW and PvP, you can essentially make sure that people around you and you are unkillable.

I got the pink vial required to make a ring at level 3 in fractal from a regular mob. While a lot of the loot drops are random, you could try raising your magic find up. Chars that I have geared for magic find have better loot drops for me.
Ya it is dieing mostly because Anet doesn’t do what it says, still havent finished the game while continually working on new content they might as well spit in our faces. Plus fail to communicate effectively allowing people to believe they don’t really care. While engaging in manipulating the market place, making it more difficult on casual players. Fundementally and systematically making the game more difficult by adding DR and other game ruining systems.
To me it looks like their trying to kill the game.
1. The game is far from dying. Almost all servers are either full or high population.
2. What did they say that they haven’t done?
3. “still haven’t finished the game while continually working on new content they might as well spit in our faces” while the game has bugs here and there, like all games, it seems pretty finished. Since when extra content is getting spat in the face? “If you buy a bread loaf you get a bread loaf free” “I don’t need the extra bread loaf, that is equal to punching me, I’m really insulted sir!”
4. “While engaging in manipulating the market place, making it more difficult on casual players” I have not seen any market manipulation from Anet’s side. Except for ecto drops. Ecto should drop more often. Tier 6 mats drop nearly all the time in high level zones though, so I would not say that drop rate right now is bad.
5. “making the game more difficult by adding DR and other game ruining systems” so your way of playing the game is sitting there and grinding the same mob in the same area day after day? Do more than one activity and you will not even notice DR.
It’s nice to see a positive post once in a while. I’m enjoying the game myself.
If you would listen to forum community you could think that the sky is falling or something. Really this is a really nice game, with its own set of bugs, but far from unplayable. It is only 3 months into the launch and I think that people should realize this.
Anet nerfs farming spots because they want you to buy gems. Course, that doesnt help since the grind itself will either make a player simply quit snd/or buy gold from gold sellers at a flat price that doesnt rely on shifting exchange rates.
The argument here is that the game is fun to play so that eliminates grind.
Wrong.
Grind is grind and fun content will only ease that pain so much.
They’re nerfing farming locations, so you would understand that farming doesn’t pay. If you do several activities daily, you can amass 10 Gold a day. Legendary has no purpose except for bragging about having a bigger kitten, it’s the ultimate goal to set, but you absolutely don’t need it. If it had better stats it would be easier to acquire. As not since it gives you no advantage and is only for bragging it only makes sense that it’s hard to get.
Gw2 was just picked up by a professional gaming league and a WvW update is confirmed in February.
February?
Six months post release?
WvW will be dead by then and the people who would have been most interested in it will have moved on. Many already have.
How much content do you want them to make exactly? It takes time to make content, especially as huge as WvW maps, then there’s time to test it and only then is it released, to make sure that it has no bug. What other game out there does major monthly updates? How long would you be waiting for a DLC or an expansion in a normal game? You’re getting free stuff and complaining that it’s not the free stuff that you want? What the duckling?!
I’m also kinda confused as to what exactly the wvw community wants. They havent been ignoring wvw in the least, changing or adding maps takes a huge amount of time and resources. I mean they could tweak the scoring system to make pvd less worth it… but most PvPers want a stable system that works. Right now more or less wvw is pretty stable.
There’s a clear answer to this question, which I thought I already gave.
I want WvW to be as viable of a way to (a) earn gold (b) acquire drops © get top level gear as PvE is….
…so that I could (if I choose) play only WvW at lvl 80 (if not before) and be at absolutely zero disadvantage from someone who only PvEs or only casually PvPs.
Pretty clear.
I’ve had rare drops in WvW and I’ve earned money there. The loot is pretty much samish no matter what you do, so if you WvW a lot you should be able to afford exotics.
Funnily enough, the places that I visit always seem alive. If you’re on the map, see an event and can’t do it alone, yell on the map chat. Leveling 2 chars at the moment and this is what people do. Every single zone as far as I’ve seen has between 10 and 30 players at all times.
I prefer to look at raptr for data since people are actually using it unlike xfire, for various games, not just 4-6.
Verdict? GW 2 isn’t doing good, at all.
In the last 30 days it gathered 324,764 hours, with a total of 1,912,928 hours since release, it’s an outrageous decline rate, way more than the typical “oh game is new, will play a little and just leave the dedicated to still play it for a while”.
not using raptr at all. How many of all the players do you think put GW2 on an application? 5%?
My server is alive and kicking. Leveling up my level 20s and still doing dungeons on my level 80s, by traveling around the world I can honestly say that I find at least 20 people per zone, having in mind that I see map chat announcing events and players flocking to the event places by decent amount of numbers. The game is far far FAR from dying.
Theres no incentive to go to Orr or anywhere else in the game aside from map completion or daily karma jug everything you need is in Fracture (misspelled on purpose because all the dungeon has done is fracture and segregate the player base). You’ll earn more gold per hour running the dungeon that you would running DE’s or farming t6 mats so all you’ll need to do is play the TP for more gold and your T6 mats.
The whole Lost Shore update and everything changed and manipulated since release such as DE farming , Loot DR, Bot policing has been a complete boondoggle all in the name of corporate greed.
except that plenty of us are leveling out there really calmly and Orr never had a lot of people in it, because it’s a painful zone…
Don’t know when you started playing but there use to be overflows in Cursed Shores and Malcores Leap on occasion and none of the Temples stayed contested if they weren’t bugged before all these “incentives” were introduced.
I started playing late. Just over a month ago. However before the lost shores patch I actually was a noob that thought that level 70-75 and 75-80 zones both might be good for leveling, so I can confirm that they were definitely not populated then. I ran in and ran out and decided to use my boyfriend’s suggestion and go to 70 – 80 zone for leveling. It worked well, but after reaching level 80 we wanted to earn money for our exotics. One good way of earning money at the time before the reward nerf was to run events in the level 80 zone. It meant getting trough level 70-75 and 75-80 zones. Before the patch there was a bunch of people on the level 80 zone, but those? No. There were still none. So I have to assume that somewhere in those two months before I started playing most people ran trough there and decided not to come back.
The problem is with the word “grinding”. Why do you feel the need to grind? I did practically nothing yesterday – ran fractals twice, ran AC once and played WvW for about 4 hours. I got 9 rares (I’m geared for magic find) and I sold them for 6G. 6G in a day is not bad in my opinion. And then I hear about how people can’t make money.
Yeah, it’s ridiculous.
I run AC two or three times a night, and usually get 2-3 gold not even factoring in rares.
right – you ran DUNGEONS – we shouldn’t have to run dungeons or fractals to earn a reasonable amount of gold – a lot of people HATE dungeons and prefer open world stuff (which by the way, was a major selling point of this game – open world activities.)
if you would bother to do full explore in Orr (no matter how annoying those zones are) it was raining tier 6 mats for me, every zone of 70+ gave me a one time exploration reward of an exotic and 20 to 40 silver. Now if you finished the whole explore, there’s nothing much left to do in the zones unless you want to do grinding, but grinding is boring so why would you prefer it instead of running dungeons? Another strategy would be to find the dragon timer on the internet and run dragons one after the other. While dragon drops are random, you can still get rares there. WvW will put you into plus too if you decide not to buy upgrades as long as someone is playing. I had days where I would earn 2 – 4 gold just from WvW. Even if you have dungeons with all your soul, you can STILL make money.
