The curse word system block is a strong one though. I can’t even write (read only the capital letters) Deli Emma Rock Pelvis and that’s not even a swear word!
The other half will go to TESO in 2013..:)
having in mind that it doesn’t bare the right lore and did not decide to implement any new mechanics – doubt it. I don’t know what TES even supposed to allure. It is aiming to be an average MMO and there’s a lot of those there.
I’ve been playing it for hundreds of hours and still loving it. Glad that you like it too
The leveling experience is pleasant, dungeons if you find the right team for it are fun and there’s plenty of goals that you can set for yourself.
I laugh at any attempt to make GW2 GotY! The game is nowhere near the hype. The story is a joke written by a school child and the voice acting is the worst I have ever seen in a game.
You must be too young to remember Resident Evil or Tenchu then.
No, not too young, I did not play either of those tittles though. Were they bad?
they weren’t bad gameplay wise. They were horrible voice acting wise though.
Tenchu

This is bad voice acting. Guild Wars 2 actually has famous voice actors and does a good job at it.
Now bad story wise – The Scourge Project: Episode 1 and 2, Chrono Trigger, Mas Effect 3. That’s bad stories. Now Guild Wars 2 has a lot of comical elements, but it’s not horrible story wise either.

250h isnt that new.
i heard dishonored is about 20h.
If you’re good at it it’s more like 6h. But the game is really good It will hopefully get DLCs with more story missions later. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that the story is not finished, it’s just that hardcore gamers managed to start running trough it really fast want MORE of it. The game is really awesome. You should definitely try it
uuuh the game is in for a pretty kitten competition. If it was Guild Wars 2 versus Borderlands 2 it would have a better chance of winning, however now it’s against a very good opponent – Dishonored. Both games proved to do something new and innovative. Both games deserve their votes.
Voted for Guild Wars 2, but can’t wait to see how the voting turns out.
Another thing. Who throws 25 gold away to list a buy order for green beans?
Some one even threw away 42 gold for a power trader item that’s covered up by the tool tip.
On my server somebody made this costly joke – they threw away 700 gold in order to make a copper mining pick the most wanted item. For days it was higher than the precursors for legendaries
@Mirta… If you don’t see it… then you don’t see it! That’s fine.
I recall from another post of yours that you’ve been playing for about a month. Is that correct?
If so, then you probably have no direct experience of what GW2 was actually like for the first six weeks or so. This may be why you don’t see it. You’ve not known any different. But for many of us that participated in the Beta weekends and pre-release it seems to be more apparent.
Well it’s just me and my opinion. My boyfriend was in the beta test and playing from the start. He used to tell me a lot about it. And he still enjoys this game and doesn’t really see any problems, just like me. But then again different player experience happens. Especially when we have so many different players, servers and some of us are experiencing different bugs/ problems based on our hardware and the server we are in.
Thanks for the info Mirta, yes that works every now and then, but mostly doesn’t. But people shouldnt have to jump through all kinds of hoops just to find a group.
I do agree with you on this. They should fix the message suppression thing or make a proper “find a group” channel for dungeon finding.
I assumed that it was bug fixes :/
I do agree that that message suppression is annoying. Though for the time being, if this is not fixed, go around it like the rest of us do, by a) changing one word (you can write “LFG” “LF party” “looking for group” “looking for party” “need a party” etc)
b) by doing the way gold sellers do – adding a bunch of letters at the end of your message “LFG AC exp addd” “LFD AC exp qeqwrw” :P
With your evident love of plans perhaps you can tell me/us why, if plan K was fun… have ANet now dumped it for plan Z?
Plan Z being to suck the fun out of GW2 for many of it’s players one patch at a time.
Well I’m not seeing it. So far the only thing after the mess up with the new gear tier I’ve seen them do is implement something really nice (an ability to change your character’s appearance), fix many bugs (many events that were not working now work pretty kitten well), implement more cutscenes into the story mode (noticed running trough the story on my alts) and try to fight botting with DR, which, for a conscious player is easy to avoid.
@ Mirta…the key is in the word MIGHT. We don’t know how much easier if at all and because of that you feel you need to prepare on time….just in case.
That’s the trouble for a number of people. I’m sure not everybody worries about this but there you go.
Well they might or might not, either way it’s not the end of the world, it’s just gear in an MMO with a very shallow gear progression, meaning that while it’s good it’s not necessary.
No reason to get ascendeds before they introduce it in the rest of the world. The only place where you need them right now is fractals. And complaining that you need to run fractals to run fractals is silly.
I cannot agree with this part of your post. The work needed to get these items takes a long time and is very boring. And you do need to run fractals to run the higher level of fractals because of the infusion, which isn’t exactly the same but close enough.
But back to the first point. Once they introduce the rest of the gear, you will not want to have to do all this work to get these items because you will need your time to get the new items. It will then be too late to start then. That’s the whole point of the phased introduction. Even though I am sure they will tone down the requirements for this gear, I doubt it will become a total turnaround. It will still take some effort at that point.
So especially casual players will feel they need to get it now before the next items come out, because then it will be double the work. Since no one knows when this will happen people will feel the pressure to get it done asap, just in case it hits sooner than they would want from a grind point of view.
That’s why I think you shouldn’t wait with getting ascended gear till you need it because by then it will be a sort of mission impossible for more casual players.
well they said that they will introduce them as crafted items, loot drops, etc. And at that point it MIGHT be easier to get it. Having in mind that now all people can beat you on is getting rings, when it fully comes out you’ll only be behind a few items. For some level 80s yellows are good enough so there’s no rush to go for the highest tier. When it comes out in order for me to get it a) I’ll need to be bothered. For now I’m good enough with exotics and having in mind that I don’t even NEED to own exotics to be useful I feel no pressure. So it will all depend on the requirements b) they’ll have to look good.
That’s just my point of view though.
Warriors are easy to learn and play. No matter you go for straight damage, for a huge health pool and defense or for conditions, either way you still win, because either way, even with a bad build, you still deal enough of damage.
Now try screwing up a mesmer’s or an engineer’s build… Yeah. No good.
To those talking about WvW – warriors are good there too. One warrior can retake supply camps on his own, because only AI is protecting it. So essentially they can score more points than any other class.
Now not saying that other classes are bad (I love my main ele. Other than that I have a necro, ranger and a thief), but with those classes you have to think what you’re doing. You can’t run in with a thief into a bunch of enemies and start slashing left and right… Unless you are suicidal that is. But you can jab and run. A lot of other classes are really dependent on a good build too.
Eg.. Exploring.. Did all jumping puzzle.. Did all outdoor boss.. Getting dungeon master title.. Get exploring achievement..
Rewards? Zero..
Okay. Now let’s start from here. Jumping puzzles:
Complete them all on your level 20 alt – most of the time it will drop a silver doubloon, if you sell it it’s instant 40 silver. Complete them on your level 80 and this chance is rarer, but it sometimes gives you an exotic. Exotics once sold tend to earn you 1 to 5 gold.
Got the dungeon master? So completed all dungeons trough the story run? Even in AC with the satchels that they drop and while killing enemies I earn about 1G a run. Then there’s items that enemies drop. Exploration is far more profitable, but even in story mode you can get greens to sell. So 1G while not a lot is still money. Good money that you can save.
“Get exploring achievement” so full exploration? Now how did you not earn money there is beyond me. On the character I was doing full explore on at level 60 I already had 9G, because I was exploring 40-50 zones at the time and every zone is 1. Good gear 2. 20 silver. Now higher level zones – 70-80, 70-75, 75-80, 80+ always drop exotics upon completion. Not to mention when trying to slowly move trough Orr I amassed a lot of Tier 6 mats. Planning to use those, but if I wasn’t – money right there. Gathering while doing full explore! You know how much Orri you can amass if you did every node? So don’t lie there. You should have amassed plenty of cash.
While people “playing TP” gets all the gold..
People farming crabs for gold.. Grind? check
People farming 1st boss of arah3 get gold.. Grind? check
People who bought gold got the legendary..
Now here. Trading Post manipulation takes a lot of time for little rewards. When they pull out low level mats like linen only to re-sell you know how much profit they expect? A few copper per piece. In total it adds up to a few silver.
Try farming yourself. Not profitable at all. Best drop rate for powerful blood – snow trolls. Rate of drops? About 4 powerful blood per hour and you will feel bored as hell. Dungeon runs and WvW feel so much better when inneed of money.
You know how much gold on top of karma and skill points do you need for a legendary? If those people “bought” one, then they spent about 1000 dollars in conversion system.
Need gear? Do dungeon 100×..
Need ascended ring/back? Do FOTM 100x
Need karma? Do plinx 1000x
Grind Wars 2..
You can do whatever you like in this game.. But to get gold.. You must grind..
How about gear yourself up with karma (you should have enough when you hit level 80) or gold (especially if you did full explore, you should have enough right there) or craft it yourself? Exotics are not that hard to get. Now about the realistic amounts of dungeon running – 4 runs = 1 weapon or armor piece. So 8 * 4 = 32 runs for a full gear set.
No reason to get ascendeds before they introduce it in the rest of the world. The only place where you need them right now is fractals. And complaining that you need to run fractals to run fractals is silly.
Need karma? Run a dungeon, or do a daily. Dailies are really easy to achieve and give you 4000 karma each, dungeon runs drop drops of karma with 400 karma each. A run you can get 3 – 4drops or more if you’re lucky.
What happens if you’d like more Bank space? Or you have 5 toons and would like to roll another ? Or maybe you’d like a semi-decent armor skin and didn’t want to grind 40 dungeons to get it ?
So you are unsatisfied with getting 5 Characters to level 80 (which is hundreds of hours of playtime), along with two different PVP modes to keep you occupied for the 50$ you paid
LOL hundreds of hours of playtime for 5 level 80’s, silly you can get to level 80 in a matter of hours not days, weeks, months literally 5-8 played hours per character. Heres a hint you can max all trade skills multi-times, it takes roughly 20-30gold, a few crafting boosts and you’re good to go.
so essentially instead of seeing the imaginative outside world, you bought/ got from the sky 20 – 30 gold for a character and just grinded crafting for 5 to 8 hours? What fun is in that? I would not even deem you able to comment on this game then, because you obviously did not explore 99% of it.
If I invest 6-10 hours into GW2 daily, even with raising my profession up, the maximum I’ll go up will be 10 – 12 levels. Not more. Having 2 level 80s and raising another character up I feel as if I already had the moneys worth of this game, just because how much time I invested in it, so if it suddenly broke or I got bored of it, I wouldn’t regret buying it.Played through the game on first character, doing dailies, map completion, farming and saving mats etc etc . Rolled 2nd character had maybe 30-40 gold in bank found out you could suspend tradeskills without losing skills used mats I had and crafting boosts from chest I had collected got 3 more 80’s in the span of 3 days easy peasy and now I can stroll through the game in any zone/dungeon I want to in my multi-box train of ownage.
Fair enough. I’m doing mixed play for my alts – on one hand I have lots of mats to use, on the other hand I prefer only leveling 1/2 professions per character. So now with my jewelcrafter I’m uncovering every zone that has a dungeon to be able to run them later, while still raising her profession. I also have enough starter and mid mats for my leatherworker and armorsmith.
This is the problem I have with the cash shop:
Some items in the game have fixed gold costs – most obviously T3 cultural armor.
Items in the cash shop have a fixed gem/cash cost.
However, the cost of gold in real money is more or less in free fall.
This does a couple things:
1. It will potentially make T3 armor a nearly trivial purchase in real cash.
2. Items in the cash shop become progressively less attractive.Last night I used a Magic Find Booster to farm Karka – even with tons of MF, I didn’t get many Powerful Blood vials.
Now that booster costs 150 gems which is worth nearly 2g at this point.
If you convert in game gold to gems, it costs probably 2.4g (give or take)
Take any other booster and and and compare the utility of the in game gold you could have in place of the boost and it becomes hard to justify.
In my opinion, the economy is experiencing inflation, but the existence of fixed price costs creates some curious bubbles and issues.
Now if Cultural Armor was purchased with gems, it would make more sense because the cost in cash would remain constant and the effort to buy it in game gold would scale with the economy (currently, it is slowly getting cheaper)
Cash – gem exchange I think is set in stone. I’ve not seen it move and jump with the economy. Gold – Gem exchange and gem – gold exchange are the ones jumping up and down. If cultural armor cost gems, for most of us it would be unfordable. Why? Due to interesting things being introduced to cash shop (make-up kit allowing you to transform your appearance) and the inflation that was caused by halloween and soon will happen again with Wintersday, it’s getting real expensive to trade gold for gems. In order for you to catch a livable price you would have to continue hunting for it at night (sometimes the exchange drops really much), hour by hour. Just sitting there, checking the exchange. By taking the cultural armor tier 3 and moving it to the gem shop you would probably increase the price of gems yet again. Not to mention 100 gold is affordable if you decide that that skin is your goal after reaching 80. The same way that you can set out to obtain a legendary. It requires a lot of work, but if you’ll work towards it, you will get there.
The only really useful booster in my opinion is the karma booster. Do dailies and collect those jugs into your bank. At the end of the month buy a karma booster and jug them all down. 2X karma right there
to all of those that think that GW1 is better – GW1 servers were never closed. Advertise it to your friends, play it, keep it alive and hopefully it will survive for many years to come. I will attempt to do the same with Guild Wars 2. I’m not going to abandon it. I’m going to have fun in it and hope that it survives for many years to come. Everybody wins this way
8. Major source of I quit of about 5% of population. Remember that not all people are on the forums and for majority it did not change their gaming experience at all. Especially having in mind how much overreaction there is here. You can overreact when it goes everywhere (crafting, event drops, chest drops) and is as hard to craft as a legendary. Then you can overreact. Now that you don’t know how hard or easy it will be to get it, why to be overreacting over a few rings that some fractal runners have?
I love when people post this nonsense. Go back and tell that to Warhammer, AoC, SW:TOR just to name a few. In each and every account, you will find some fool saying the same nonsense. Everything is fine, it’s just the small forum population….yeah…
If you honestly think the forums aren’t a decent representation you are foolish. The forums are the people who care and take the time to post about it. The others just quietly walk away.
The how do you explain the forums of the games that are thriving? How many false deaths WoW has had in the forums now you think? Every new expansion forums are filled with “this ruined the experience, the game is dying, I’m leaving”. The problem with the statements and overreactions is that they’re both in the forums of games that are dying and on the forums of games that are not dying. I honestly wish to be able to see the number of people on the forums. I still don’t believe that it’s 6 million and I also don’t believe that the game is dying, because when I play on Underworld server I’m seeing people everywhere. Shouldn’t we be seeing servers merging and wast population disappearance in all servers if the game was dying? Shouldn’t I never hit overflow if there was no players? Shouldn’t I see no players at nighttime in the major cities saying “good morning” on the map chat?
I would like all of the above even though myself I’m planning to use the crafting option. I’m maxing more crafting professions and would love to craft my own ascendeds.
Clearly the “tech” guys didnt played too much the game.
or you people hating the game are the minority. Ever thought about that?
Yea, no I think Fenrirs thing makes more sense
well, how many people are on the forum? 25% at most? How many of those hate the game with a passion? 15%? Then how many people are actually playing it and enjoying it or thinking that it’s a good game after playing it for a while and moving on to play something else, just to come back to it months later? 85%? Really this game sold 6 million copies. I am happy with it. I’m seeing a lot of in game community being happy with it. I’m not seeing the forum users as a majority there. Really by the sales and being a quickly rising second most popular MMO after WoW I would say that it’s more likely that the complainers are a minority.
I also like to pull out random numbers from my sleeve to back up my theories
Look, I am 26, so that means the planet is 8000 years old.Its nice that the game sold 6 mil copies. But some of those copies were ppl from my guild, my friends, my family. I am the only one who at least logs in once in a while. Other ppl here see the same trend. So dont tell me that only few % are unhappy.
If we have 25% coming to forums and 15% of them hating it so we can expect the same ratio from ppl that dont come to the forums. So out of 75% 45% not liking it. In total that makes 60% out of total not liking the game and thats more than a half. (NOTE I think this is waaay too much, but just because I think that the game has issues doesnt mean I “hate” the game").
If they would dislike it, they would probably come to forums. The population and the speed of new messages being created does not make me believe that we have 6 million people in the forums. I would say 1/4th at most. All I’m saying is that if the game got on that list it has a right to be there. It doesn’t mean that people who rank it don’t play it because all the forum community thinks that it’s a bad bad game. Every single MMO has its own problems, but if you look at the forums you would think that there’s not a single good game anymore.
Bug Fixes – Cause more bugs
Loot Drops – Nerfed to the point of “Why bother”
New area – Opened nearly a month ago – Still virtually dead
Diminishing returns – Judging by the forums 80% of the playing population disgusted
Gem Store – Nothing worth buying really (1 Skin for each armour type!)
WvWvW – Tumbleweed time
Dungeons – Broken mechanics
Ascended Items – Disliked by some, reading through the forums, major source of “I quit”
1. Do you know how hard it is to bug fix such a huge game? They’re doing their best. They broke jumping, yes, but they fixed that in hours. I’ve seen my story getting fixed, the cattlepult getting fixed, numerous events in the world getting fixed. They’re working hard and I can see that they’re not being lazy because they are fixing it! How long have druids been broken if WoW? I give you a hint – they’re not fixed yet.
2. Loot drops – my level 35 now is getting better loot drops than I did on my now level 80s a month ago. My level 80s are getting good loot drops. For the first time I’m getting yellows from mobs. Before the so called loot nerf it never happened to me. If nobody mentioned nerfed loot I would honestly have missed it.
3. Some people go and kill karka there. It also has a good jumping puzzle. Most level 80s instead of farming one or two areas are spread out all over the place. Example – I like running AC. Some other people love doing fractals. Some others are WvW’ing. Others are PvP’ing. Others are leveling alts, doing jumping puzzles, just socializing.
4. How to avoid DR – once every hour change the location of where you’re killing mobs. There. Done. Now what’s the big deal here?
5. It’s good that there’s nothing worth buying in the gem store! Have you seen how many kiddies are crying – this is pay to win? The gem store was intended for skins and little tinny stuff that you don’t really need. It’s optional. It’s just cosmetics.
6. Can’t comment on WvW
7. What’s broken in the dungeons besides some bugs? Shouldn’t that go with bugs? They’re trying to fix that after all.
The funny thing is that I had this happen to me on World of Warcraft. I got my account back though it was damaged. At least you got your account back, eh? I hate thieves myself and use authenticators for most of the games. It’s really weird that they got trough the authenticator for you.
Clearly the “tech” guys didnt played too much the game.
or you people hating the game are the minority. Ever thought about that?
Oh, what content do you need to pay extra for before you can play it then? Must have missed something.
Au contraire, the cash shop doesnt offer me anything I want. So even if I want to buy gems, I wouldnt know what to do with them.
paid tournaments!? of course you can get tickets by winning free tournaments (theoretically possible) and grinding daylies:) it is a fine line anet is crossing… im wondering whats next? will it cost to rent a room in pvp? how much? of course you will also have freedom to do 100 other things to get your room, but if you dnt feel like it, gem shop!
so essentailly what you’re saying is making stuff optional and / or aquirable in other ways not just using money isnt enough for you? its still greedy / a fine line easily crossed?
What else do you want them to do ? any example of a cash shop in any game thats better then this?
League.
The cash shop is 100% optional. It pretty much just sells cool skins. You can buy xp boosts but it seems fairly pointless to me since since you’re learning the game on your to lvl 30, or IP boosts, but Riot gives out free IP boosts every now and then. My point is when you’re playing League the cash shop feels 100% optional. Players spend money on skins and stuff because they LOVE the game, not because they feel like they need to spend money to keep a competitive edge.
This.
I play LoL and their business model is SO much win. I’ve spent about 500 euros in a few months in their cash shop, just for some nice skin.
How many money I plan to spend in GW2 cash shop? ZERO. Not with this P2W scamming model.
I don’t know what is it with you people seeing pay to win here. You know what would be pay to win? If you couldn’t get the items by actually PLAYING the game. What couldn’t you get so far?
Oh, what content do you need to pay extra for before you can play it then? Must have missed something.

But the cash shop is optional here too and the exchange rate was clearly not meant for players to spend their cash in order to get gold. Unless you have a 1000 loose dollars in your pocket somewhere. You can keep a competitive edge completely ignoring the cash shop and you can get skins without spending real money, but buying gems with gold. :/

My least favorite is Sylvari. Did it once, won’t do it again.
My most favorite is Asura. Their home town is comfortably designed, the starting zone has a lot of humor in it, quests look different enough (some charr and norn zones have a copy/ paste requirements on quests only a few steps apart), overall it’s just a really pleasant zone.
GW2 becomes less and less player friendly, that’s all.
well it’s friendly to me.
Where do you get your crafting recipes? My sets cost 70 ectos. 6 armor parts, three weapons and 5 trinkets.
I was responsible for crafting armor only. Therefore 30 ectos. My boyfriend crafts the weapons and jewelry. We share the work load this way. Also my armor includes squishy armors only. I don’t know if you need more for a non squishy armor.
That answer doesn’t make sense XD You need 70 ectos for a full set of exotic gear, no matter what crafting profession you take. If you share the workload, you got two people to pay half the price to gear up one people only. At this point I’d say that getting a legendary is very easy. All you have to do is share the 1000g price among 1000 players. Surely getting 1g for a Legendary isn’t much effort is it?
Well if you never took jewelcrafting and weaponsmithing, you won’t be able to make those will you?
When it comes to tailoring. Full set:
Explorer’s Intricate Gossamer Insignia X 6
(5 glob of ectoplasm
5 vicious claws
20 spools of gossamer thread
5 bolts of gossamer)
+
about 15 gossamer bolt more
+
4 cured hardened leather squares or so
Therefore armor wise it is only 30 ecto per person. Having in mind that I geared up 3 people for now, that makes it 90. So a bit over one person. Sharing workload kind of makes sense here. It’s not like I got weapons and jewelry for free. I payed for it in tailored armor and will continue to make tailored armor ifhe levels any more squishies. It’s not like everyone put 1G towards a legendary of one person. It’s more like one groupie is responsible for providing a 1000 of one mat instead of 250 and split it among 4 people, all concentrating into getting one mat only.
Anyone ever think Legendaries are meant to be a grind and are implemented for those who enjoy doing so? No? Just me… Okay finds door hits self with door on way out by mistake
Yeah, legendaries were a massive optional grind.
Nobody wants to play a sub-par character. The moment I had to choose between sub-par character or several hundred (thousand?) dungeon runs I decided to drop this game.
Some people enjoy it, some people don’t, not going to knock the people who enjoy it but this game was marketed towards the people who don’t.
Similar for me.
When I was able to buy exotic gear for karma earned in WvW, or WvW badges, I was very fine with the philosophy behind the game. Then it changed pretty much over night as I downloaded the patch. I have run FotM once – it was enough for me.
You can wait half a year until Ascended will actually be craftable/ buyable and got as loot from dragon events and then decide whether to get it or not. It doesn’t ruin the game for me at all, though I don’t know will I really want it. A pink item name is really pretty, but when difference between gears is so small, I’m not in much of a disadvantage without it.
1. Jumping works for me
2. The cattlepult works finally!
When I go around the zones again full of what used to be broken events, I can see what this patch fixed and I feel quite thankful for it
by now I’ve bought 90 ectos. You know that exotics that I said I have? I crafted them for 3 chars. And like I said, gearing one char is 10 to 15 gold. I still managed to gear up 3 without grinding. 30 ectos per exotic set if you’re making it.
Also I found a fun way to make money on my alts. Jumping puzzles. If a jumping puzzle spawns a silver doubloon (happened 2 times today, out of 6 jumping puzzles), that is instant 80 silver. If you raise your magic find up, it spawns exotics sometimes. There’s over 100 jumping puzzles and repeating it daily is so worth it.

@Mirta
At the moment you are the top of the food chain. A hardcore player with established 80s and money in the bank. Not trying to take away from your achievements but tH majority of that success would have come before the income nerfs.
What chance does a new player now have to try and get to a lvl playing field? How much more difficult do you think it is now then 3 months ago ?
Those that have played since release and pushed through the content early have a distinct advantage over those players now entering the game. How much worse is that gap going to become over the next 3 months?Agree.
Just think about the bank slots, for example.
well recently my boyfriend found a lucky night when 100 gems cost 50 silver. I, myself, am still using the regular bank slots, so in all those regards I’m as much on top of a food chain as a new player is.

well I only started playing a month ago so lol?
I’m also leveling 2 alts, without using my 80s money and I could say that so far I’m not getting worse drops. Later with the top tier of gear being ascended, newbies will actually be the ones winning, because people with 80s right now already spent money on their exotics and will be spending the same amount again for the ascendeds if they feel like it. Newbies coming in later will only be making the top tier – ascendeds, not spending anything on exotics and saving money like veterans couldn’t have.
Really it’s all a point of perspective. I can say that right now the game, for me is not worse than it was a month ago, so I don’t see the advantage being that big on either side.
It’s only a grind if you make it one, there’s different ways to enjoy games than only from getting shineys.
Hahahahahah! That’s rich.
You have to grind if you want to get any sort of reward this century. Ascended items are a massive grind, around 100+ hours of nothing but hardcore grinding for a single item (or double that for an infused version).
“Just playing” you probably won’t even ever afford an exotic set at current prices, much less be able to get cosmetic items or Ascended gear.
uuuhhh. Ran fractals 3 times, already have vial of the mists and able to make one ascended item… I don’t see the grind here.
Exotics are 10 – 15 gold for the whose set, if you were gathering while leveling and not spending your money like crazy you should be able to afford it.Oh yeah, so I suppose you got 50 ectos, 250 T6 mats and 1350 fractal relics from 3 FotM runs too?
Oh wait, no you didn’t, so you’re just ignoring the massive grind for the sake of being disingenuous and supporting your objectively wrong point.
Let’s avoid blatantly lying about stuff that can easily be proven.

I have about 200 fractal relics by now, about enough to make one ring, like I said.
250 T6 mats? Are you making a legendary? So far I’ve seen no such qualification for an ascended ring. Google how to make one, it only requires things bought with fractal relics and a vial of the mists. Also some stuff bought with skill points. Easy enough to afford.Go look up the back piece, it requires 50x ecto, 250 T6 mat, 1350 Fractal Relics and a Vial of Mists Essence.
Also, the rings aren’t even crafted, they’re RNG, and there’s no way in hell you bought 90 ectos off of money farmed from 3 fractal runs. You are full of it.
I never said I farmed money from fractal runs for 90 ectos did I? I got it by reaching level 80 with 2 chars.
both are backpieces:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Prototype_Fractal_Capacitor_
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/There_with_Yakkington:_A_Traveler's_Tale
1 Prototype Fractal Capacitor
1 Gift of Ascension
40 Crystal
1 Vial of Condensed Mists
Essence
versus
250 Vicious Claw
50 Glob of Ectoplasm
40 Crystal
1 Vial of Condensed Mists
Essence
one requires more money, the other one requires more fractal crystals. If I look at it the casual way and run fractals like from time to time, not every day, it plainly just pays to wait until I get enough fractal crystals. Simple.
Well they said that they were planning on releasing Ascended with the other tiers at the start of the game, but it just wasn’t ready and that making it available only one way was a mistake, so they’re implementing all of the different ways of getting them.
And you believe them when they say this? What evidence is there that this is the case?
As it stands the game was not designed to have more than one upgrade slot on an item, hence the ham-fisted “baked in” stats on the ascended gear and the slot used for “infusion”. If Ascended was in the design since day one then ascended gear would have two slots, one for a standard upgrade plus an infusion slot.
And who wants an ascended weapon without a decent sigil or even being able to choose your sigil because the only slot is for infusions?
Yeah, but all this Ascended stuff was in the design doc since day 1 and wasn’t conjured up in panic to appease bored content locusts. Scout’s honor! Pinky swear!
It’s true, there’s a sucker born every minute.
Why would I not believe them? They’re a good company that provided me with a decent game. They are still keeping Guild Wars 1 servers open. They seem to be managing their games okay. I don’t understand the whole uproar to begin with really.
3. Play the game normally, and collect what’s needed over a long period of time.
Play the game normally, what does this even mean?
I am confused about what this, how does it work? How do you play the game “normally”?
If you do 100% map completion you won’t get all the 250 stacks of t6 mats you need. Not even close. What other “normal” stuff is there to do? Wander around in Orr? Kill Jormag 1,000,000x? Stand around bored in LA?
Hey good luck with making your OWN mmorpg
I would definitely play that one, infinite content. Every day new dungeon, every day new map and story
Nice. I am really looking forward
It looks to me that you never played any mmorpg before. MMORPGs always involve farming, repeating content. ALWAYS. And many people enjoy it, like myself.
Arenanet never said there is no grind involved in Guild Wars 2. They said you dont have to grind/farm to be on pair with everyone else (stat wise) but if you want the best, the most unique and the most rare weapon (Legendary) you have to WORK HARD for it.
So please try to understand this.
I’ve played a lot of MMOs numbering into the 50+, and these kind of comments come from the stinking bodies of dying MMOs. It’s that desperate hope and longing for something to live. That denial of the facts, that tell you when a MMO is really under siege. I’ve seen these kinds of posts before, and I see them popping up all over this board. Those posts of denial, all the way up until they pull the plug.
I’ve played plenty of games and MMOs and I’ve seen these kind of posts springing up on very lively and currently still alive MMOs. It’s kind of like “the end of the world is coming” people in reality. All decide to yell “the sky is falling”, when it isn’t. Having in mind that Guild Wars 2 is now considered the most popular MMO after WoW, I would say that even if we lost a lot of our player base it could still live on. It would have less servers, yes, but that’s about the impact that it would have.
I haven’t, in 20 years. Often your right there is always doomsayers, but usually the entire forum isn’t dedicated to that, unless it really is doomed. I’ve seen very cheery (see: delusional) boards go down. CoH comes to mind, though I suppose that MMO was successful it just got old. Warhammer comes to mind as well, I suppose that exactly wasn’t doomed, it however is not it’s former self. The devs of Warhammer never did address any of the players concerns either…sort of like GW2. So maybe GW2 will live on only because of it’s powerful backer NCsoft.
It might be the community these days. You know Kerbal space program? Some people actually decided to threaten the developers to already release the game, even though all have access to it and are able to buy it in the beta and receive plenty of free upgrades. There’s lots of whinny little kids around in forums even if there’s nothing to whine about.
I’m especially pessimistic about all this whining because not even a quarter of all players are on the forums. Most people of Guild Wars 2 are just quietly playing it.That’s why I personally don’t believe the predictions of “this game is going to fall”. It doesn’t look like it’s falling to me. It actually still looks quite lively. And having in mind how many servers it has all that can happen from a decrease in population the way that it is right now is server merge. That’s about all. Especially having in mind thata free to play MMO Perfect World generates enough money from just 2 servers to keep it going.
It’s only a grind if you make it one, there’s different ways to enjoy games than only from getting shineys.

As of right now legendary weapons are mandatory simply because they will always be best in slot no matter what.
That means no matter what is released they will be bumped up and infusions added in perpetuity. So the second the new weapons drop this become the most powerful without the extra grind of obtaining said weapons.Yes there will be a huge grind I have heard that it will be on order of 2X ascend stuff now. That is subject to change but you get the point.
They lost 25% of the pop because of this patch and just lost 5% more since the grinders have their stuff and moved off into another game. They have Raids incoming and trinity type mechanics for Feb-march.
The grind is going to get much worse as they force you to spend money for gems because they will attempt to squeeze what is left of the population for revenue.
30%of the population gone in 2 weeks because of this. Mousey is a lousey who sqeeks all the night long.
Well they said that they were planning on releasing Ascended with the other tiers at the start of the game, but it just wasn’t ready and that making it available only one way was a mistake, so they’re implementing all of the different ways of getting them. Also they’re not planning on making more tiers. And no, you don’t need legendaries. Yes, legendaries will get bumped, but the percentage of how much one gear tier is better than the next one is very low. That’s why a lot of people didn’t even bother to go for exotics.
Now another thing – introducing raids is a bad thing? You don’t like raids, don’t run them! Simple as that. I personally would like to see how Guild Wars 2 raids look, especially keeping in mind how different their dungeons are to other games.
Give it away by making a fun event that will allow you to laugh at people. A guy here has already posted a dance competition. And there’s the how much damage can you take competition… So use your imagination and make a new one! As people to do something silly… Like post a pic with the funniest face expression you’ve seen in the game on a player on an NPC or something
Hardcore gear-grinders generally don’t want to gear-grind in a pay-to-win cash shop game.
1. Do you know what kind of game is pay to win? Have you ever played one?! Because I assure you Guild Wars 2 is far from it.
2. “Hardcore gear grinders don’t want to gear grind” contradicting yourself much?
Casuals generally do not want to play in a game where they can never keep up or reach equality via playing casually.
Having in mind how fast it is to level in this game and how easy it is to amass the right amount of money and items for good gear (I was able to gear me, my alt and my bf in exotics in 2 days. I’m a hardcore player, but really once you reach level 400 crafting all you need is only a bit of money for ectos. 10 – 15 gold to gear up one char in gear that will serve its purpose, if you don’t spend a lot and collect materials, you can have 10G at level 80) I wouldn’t say that this game is really bad for casuals. Especially when some casuals quite recently made topics in this forum about how they love the game, because even if they switch it on only for 30 minutes they can feel like they have achieved something.
WvW players don’t want to have to PvE grind anything. Who is this system serving? It is only serving to completely monetize the GW2 system, anchored by the ridiculously low amount of silver one earns while playing the game. You’ve been wondering why it is so low? This is why. And if you sPvP players think you are immune to this, how long do you think you have before Crystin figures out a way to make you pony up?
And they don’t have to. You get quite okay drops in WvW, plus there are nodes and ingredients in it. Not the tier 6 ones, but gold and silvers sells quite well.
Who is this system serving? It is only serving to completely monetize the GW2 system, anchored by the ridiculously low amount of silver one earns while playing the game.
1. Okay. How come am I able to get everything I need from the game while not grinding or buying gems and how come you feel unable to?
2. You do realize that the way the economy works if it started raining gold the prices would simply increase, right? Look at Diablo III economy.
And if you sPvP players think you are immune to this, how long do you think you have before Crystin figures out a way to make you pony up?
Well having in mind that in SPvP you are using SPvP gear with the opportunity to get skins, but not actual gear with advantage, there’s not really a way for sPvP to be damaged.
It’s simple. When people see a grind to get something they want they start grinding.
Simply saying “yer doing it wrong!” is not a valid rebuttal. How else are you supposed to amass multiple 250 stacks of t6 materials without buying from TP or grinding for them in some way?
Are all of these high priced mats going to fall in your lap somehow if you simply log on every day for a year? You will not get the all from simply doing map completion or gathering tokens for the the other components of your legendary. You can get 500 tokens from dungeons and WvW a lot faster than you can get the ridiculous amount of mats needed for the other gifts.
Again, how exactly does one get multiple 250 stack of t6 items without using paypal or doing any sort of grinding?
let’s see, I completed my full explore of Straits of Devastation only to amass stacks of 15 of tier 6 mats. I tried grinding trolls for powerful blood in 70-80 zone for an hour, not only did I get bored, I got very little of it. Tried running dungeons and once again I’m getting drops of tier 5 mats, that can be upped to tier 6. Every time I get level 80 whites or blues I salvage them and sometimes get ori, sometimes get gossamer. Mats that I don’t need and am not going to use I sell and buy the ones that I do need.
You can amass the things needed indeed by simply playing the game. It doesn’t fall from the sky, but if you want to get yourself bored standing somewhere, killing the same enemy over and over again you’re not going to get it. So you might as well not try doing boring activities like those.
Now speaking about the problem of “it was easier for people before us to get legendaries”, I’ve heard a person that was playing from day 1 complain that when he bought his base exotic for legendary it cost 10 times more than what it does now. He was complaining that he needed to invest so much more time getting that some than the newbies need to invest now. Really it is just an economy, demand rises, demand falls, things get more expensive, things get cheaper.
How long till people understand that you’re NOT supposed to grind or farm? You will not get diminishing returns unless you sit there doing the same thing for hours. Which is not even fun!So why do you people do it? Want a good income? Rotate what you do. Do dungeons, then WvW, then events, then kill something. Why can some make money and some go to the forums to whine?
And how fun is it to set yourself a goal and deliberately NOT work toward it?
And to come back to legendary weapons, my bad, same stats as exotics, even if they were buffed for a while it seems. (http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/244999-legendary-weapons-boosted-to-ascended-stats/)
who said that by having fun you’re not working towards it? Your money is slowly going to a plus no matter what you do and grinding is simply not fun. Therefore you might as well do everything that you enjoy doing and then buy one mat at a time every time when you have efficient money. I’ve seen other people work for a legendary. They rotate the things that they are doing too.
