Go read – Confessions of a Magic Find Leech – further down the page. Will tell you everything you need to know.
Gimping yourself in a group with MF is leeching from the group, it’s totally and utterly selfish.
you can use MF gear and not gimp the team. It’s also about your skills and build.
1. How would magic find be different from heavy, light and medium corrupted orrian, dredge and knight armor sets when you choose toughness as your main stat, power, precision as secondary? Magic find uses put out the exact same amount of damage as those people.
2. How do you know that the person does less? We had a mesmer with MF once that was putting out the most damage due to confusion, was tanking due to all the blocking abilities he had and kept on getting people up while making himself immune to AoE.You keep talking about dmg. People choose those toughness/vitality so they can stay up longer.
And more importantly. For most class, people choose those toughness/vitality “so they can melee” and do more dmg.
And those utility rune do make a huge difference. Condition removal shout build. or 2/2/2 boon duration for guardian.
And like I said, I don’t even want to do pug with glasscannon. Now a glasscannon using mf just make it more annoying. I don’t mean it as I dont’ play with people that wear berserker. I mean glasscannon as in people wearing no vit/toughness who keep dieing.
People can compensate glass-cannony gear with their skills and stats (having skills with block and immunity helps a lot). I do understand your concern, it’s just weird for me that people hate a certain gear type so much. The funny thing is that most of the time they don’t even notice that a person is wearing it. Though if the person accidentally ends up telling that he is wearing it… Ugh hell galore.
2. How do you know that the person does less? We had a mesmer with MF once that was putting out the most damage due to confusion, was tanking due to all the blocking abilities he had and kept on getting people up while making himself immune to AoE.
Care to tell me how you counted that he was doing more damage? Where is your dps meter?
2 000 damage every time a boss did anything (used an ability, attacked a player). Boss in CoE was spamming AoE. Every time he spammed AoE (5, 6 circles in a single session of spam) our mesmers dps went all the way to 10 000, 12 000… That’s how confusion works. Confusion mesmers are also really good to have in the ice fractal against the last boss (he spams AoE), Cliffside fractal (boss spams AoE). There are dungeon bosses that wipe conditions though.

1. Explorer’s:
Power: 698 = 1614 Total (916 is base)
Precision: 698 = ~33% crit chance
Berserker’s:
Power: 1003 (30% more power) = 1919 Total (~16% higher power)
Precision: 698 = ~33% crit chance
Crit Damage: 62% = 212% crit damage
Let’s take a dagger for the calculation with an average weapon damage of 952. Also let’s attack a target with 2600 armor (the armor that tooltips compare damage against). Also, let’s take a skill with 1.0 coefficient for easier calculations.
Damage: Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
Damage with MF = 952*1614*1/2600=590 damage
Damage with Berserker = 952*1919*1/2600=702 damage
Now both have 33% chance of being critical so our total average damage is:
(<Non-critical*2><critical>) / 3
MF Critical: 590*150%=885
Berserker Critical: 702*212%=1488
Total Average damage with MF: (590*2885)/3=688,3 dps
Total Average damage with Berserker: (702*2+1488)/3=984 dpsAnswer: no they don’t put out a lot of damage on dungeon bosses. If you “want” to run that kind of gear, run Berserker instead
2. That’s reason enough, why should someone that does less be paid more? It’s the single stat that contributes nothing to a party…
1. How would magic find be different from heavy, light and medium corrupted orrian, dredge and knight armor sets when you choose toughness as your main stat, power, precision as secondary? Magic find uses put out the exact same amount of damage as those people.
2. How do you know that the person does less? We had a mesmer with MF once that was putting out the most damage due to confusion, was tanking due to all the blocking abilities he had and kept on getting people up while making himself immune to AoE.
However, I think the stat is totally bull to have. We players should be rewared by using skills, building our characters in a way that increase our strenght in one way or the other, and loot drops should be given out if you managed to beat the enemy, not given some extra chance because you got a stat that increase rare loot drops, it’s just so bull in my opinion.
Well you are sacrificing a stat helping with survivability, so shouldn’t you be rewarded more for managing to survive with less toughness and survivability? In my opinion in order to have MF gear you have to accept that you’re sacrificing something and that’s why the rewards are increased.

Just been on “Current Topic Poll: Mid-Jan. 2013” and to the question of “Would you prefer if Magic Find was removed from the game completely?” 37 people answered “yes”.
my question is why?
Now my reasons why it is an okay build and okay mechanic.
1. The person wearing magic find sacrifices a stat like vitality or toughness. They still have the same amount of power and precision as a typical glass cannon. They still put out a lot of damage on dungeon bosses and certainly do not injure the team more than a glass cannon does.
2.They have double the chance to get good items. That’s it. A person with magic find would barely get more rewards in one dungeon run. In a week of just running dungeons they would probably end up having more loot than an average player.
What I’m saying is that magic find works, but it doesn’t give mountains of items everyday for people wearing them and in no way does it affect people that don’t wear them, so again, why is it hated so much?
I’m ALSO a necro that runs level 10 fractals daily. My response:
Aquatic Ruins
– 5 minutes. Not longer than any other boss.
Cliffside
– the hammer has all the abilities you need. The hammer wielder never actually fights on their own but rather just hit the killing blow.
– there’s a very nice little crack spot very close to the seal between the AoE’s and it’s a perfectly fine spot to stand on.
– That’s the party fault, not the fractal.
– don’t get hit by wind?
Snowblind
– and make it easy? Everybody learns to follow the wall’s progress sooner or later. There’s nothing wrong with that mechanic
– Oh hey! I’m a condition type as well!
use your lych king form, afterwards spam the regular attack, help teammates to survive.
Solid Ocean
– The parties problem once again. There’s nothing bad with platforming. Also don’t skip mobs and you will not be stopped mid air.
Underground Facility (dredge)
– In high fractals dredge part is too difficult and requires spy kits, in level 10 or so use your death shroud to survive.
Urban Battlegrounds
– If you use the staff you have range to take down weapons slowly using the number 1 attack. Use it.
All I can say – you complain too much and about all the wrong things.
The Dirty Dozen:
1) Would you prefer ascended gear to be the last tier implemented for the remainder of GW2?
2) Would you prefer ascended gear to be equal to exotic gear in all statistics except agony resistance?
3) Would you prefer the level cap to remain at 80 for the remainder of GW2?
4) Would you prefer if WvW was set up on an equal playing field similar to PvP?
5) Would you prefer if WvW / PvP / PvE had separate skill functionalities?
6) Would you prefer if Magic Find was removed from the game completely?
7) Would you prefer if Magic Find was divided equally amongst all party members?
8) Is GW2 too ‘Grindy?’
9) Does GW2 need less RNG?
10) Has the Trading Post [and all its users/farmers] positively impacted the economy?
11) Do you have as much faith [and/or enthusiasm] about the game [and/or company] as you did before launch?
12) Do you reasonably expect [many of] your primary concerns to be addressed in early 2013?
1. yes
2. no
3. no
4. no
5. no
6. no
7. no
8. no
9. What’s RNG?
10. Is the trade post a positive thing? Yes. Did the snowflake exploiters, etc, made the economy better? No. Trade post is the economy of the game really, so what knid of question is that?
11. yes
12. yes
because of ping and server issues? It’s no surprise to me having in mind that you can’t even group up with NA servers if you’re on EU for dungeons as it is now. No game allowed such cross continent servering as I remember. Why do you expect this one to allow it?
the fact that you haven’t done the story means that you can’t lead your own dungeon group (if nobody in your party has done the story when you’ll approach the gate it will only say “story mode” and no “Explorable mode”)
Now with the tokens buy what you need – armor, weapons… If you don’t need anything you can always buy exotic gear and salvage it for ectos
I don’t mind the currency. You select a dungeon you want gear from, run it a few times a day (then switch to other things), buy your gear, destroy the remaining tokens if you’re not planning on going for that dungeon’s gear again, run whatever you like from now on and either pile a few tokens, to buy exotics, to salvage them for ectos or destroy the tokens.
I stopped playing because I hate typing 3 letters 50 times to do anything
LFG
LFMIf only there was a way to queue for dungeons and once available go do it without wasting time sitting in a city Typing
you haven’t heard about this site then http://gw2lfg.com/ . You can literally get a dungeon in seconds. Also they’re by now working on an LFG tool as it was stated in what they’re doing for 2013
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
Improving the “looking for group” tool to make it easier to find other players to play with in the game.
So hopefully things will get better soon
Did you see them mention that now you’ll be able to chose the activities that you’ll do for the monthly?
For example, if there are 6 daily achievements available, you’ll only need to do 4 of the 6, so you can choose the achievements that you’re most interested in.
You’ll be able to skip fractals and I’ll skip WvW kill requirements. Problem solved
you forgot that condition specked people still do normal damage.
I have a guardian and a necro all condi specked. My mesmer is going to be condi specked too.
On my necro I can do bleeds, poisons and fire at the same time with some signets, I can wipe conditions on me and put them back on bosses and at the same time I still do 400 – 500 damage a hit.
On my guardian I can keep constant fire going for 5 minutes while still having regular damage, knockbacks and survivability.
A mesmer with good confusion is op against some dungeon bosses and thieves.
It’s all about how you play. I’m seeing condi damage as something great and worth going for.
I had the same problem with everyone wanting a speed run. Instead of getting annoyed I decided to start adding my own LFG’s with “normal run only, seeking friendly people, accepting newbs”, ended up finding groups that I like.
Write your own LFG’s – the game most definitely has other classes, not just warriors and mesmers.

The only infinitely repeatable achievement I can think of is Agent of Entropy that you get for salvaging stuff. Playing normally (ie. never going out of my way to salvage stuff), I’ve gotten 140 points out of 4224 total points. I salvage everything that vendors for less than 90c.
If all I lose is those 140 points, I’d be okay with it. However, I’m not sure that I’d qualify as someone who went crazy. It’s 2 points per 200 salvages. So, I’m at about 14,000 items salvaged.
Also, based on the screenshot and the value of dailies (9) and monthlies (35), it looks like you can get a nice amount of stuff each month with the 305 points you’d get for completing 30 dailies and the monthly.
Really looking forward to this.
Just want to quickly point out to get out ahead of it since those numbers are wildly off. You receive 1 crown per daily, and 10 per monthly. (We’re also still tweaking the costs of the items shown in the screen shot, and will continue to adjust them until until the system is released.)
how will the new system affect economy? Is it possible that whites and blues are profitable to sell for low level people only because some people are trying to abuse the “Agent of Entropy” achievement? Also another question – why is the monthly only give you 10 times the daily when it’s so much harder to complete?
If all that I did would just get wiped it would kind of make me feel sad. I want to get those dyes for achievement points!
in fractals you can do perfectly fine without. Also in the dredge level if you’re invisible on the console dredge that spawn there will still attack you so it’s better for the people on the buttons to be visible and attract more aggro to themselves off the person on the console.
just no >.>
Mostly because there is no way to survive on buttons after a certain level….just impossible.
Bad thing is you actually NEED spykits to do dredge at higher lvls….that is imho a design mistake.
haven’t gone past level 20 so I wouldn’t know. Though I’ve heard that at levels 40+ fractals turn insane.
@Erebus
Anet, does not ban on first time ocurrences, and some griefing is not as hacking or exploiting a game, so will take more than one, two or three ocurrences to get a real ban.But those people are jerks, they will repeat this stupidity more and more, so the more people report this TO ANET and have some way to TEACH people to do that and how it works, more easily this people will get a serious ban and will ragequit or will be more pleasant people.
But most of this problem is: people don´t report because they simply don´t know how or just be so ashamed that they don´t want to report and vent their frustration in other people.
unless you know to take precautions before entering the dungeon (add all of the party to your friends) you won’t be able to report, due to the party chat disappearing. All you could report then is the incident itself but not the people that did it.
keep it as is. there’s times you need it, which far outweigh the trolling/griefing done with it. as it stands you can rid the group of leeches and kitten. don’t kitten with it.
if you need to get rid of a bad player I’m sure that you would be able to get 3 votes as well.
actually I’m studying to be a programmer. All I was saying is that what they would need to do is to be careful of what kind of LFG they put in. An auto-group would be pretty bad and another channel would be pretty bad too. That website works pretty well. They could copy the MODEL of it and set it up the same way as they did with the black lion (on a different server, working on a global basis).
Keep studying.
There’s already a grouping system in game for sPvP, and they would want to use a similar interface for standardization and continuity. There is no reason to use a separate server and add to the complexity.
with a standard system like spvp has you’re talking about increasing dungeon kicks, frustration and forcing everyone to adopt the same playstyle. A dungeon finding system has to be more complex than that.
it would take less then a week with only ONE programmer on it to fully program a LFG system. most of the code is already there and its pure copy pasted, all the core coding needed is already there.
if you got no coding experience you shouldn’t be speaking about the time and difficulty of implementing anything…. which you clearly do not have.
an lfg system would be one of the easier thing to implement into gw2.linking to a website would be the worst junk EVER and a sad SAD way to see them go

I feel that the best way Anet could fix this would be to make the kick system timed. If someone wanted to kick someone, it would initiate a kick timer that would last about one and a half minutes. In this time period, the party members would get to vote, to kick or to not kick. After all the votes would be tallied up, if the votes were tied, or under the majority to kick the player, the player would stay, but if the majority of votes were to kick the player, they would be kicked.
With this type of system, It would get rid of the problem of being kicked instantly, and other players being able to do something about it. you would also have time to take a screen shot.
Recently (about 3 hours ago) me and a friend were running a CoF path one with 3 other people. 2 of them must have been friends or something and the other 1 was alone. We were on the final boss and he was at about 20%. my friend was suddenly kicked and replaced by a level 60. We had no idea what happened until we kicked the level 60 and invited my friend back. They tried to kick him again, but we found out who the 2 people were and kicked them both. It made me really angry that our entire run could have been ruined by two morons. They didn’t get their rewards and didn’t deserve them, but that’s not the point. the point is if there was a timed system, none of this would have happened because we would have been able to stop my friend from being kicked.
it doesn’t even need to last that long. 30 seconds will do. I do agree though, a system like this is really needed right now.
well I would say force the whole party except for the one being voted about to vote and ask for a success ratio of 3/4. If you ask for 4/4 (the person in question not voting), then a buddy of that person could vote “no”, if you ask for 2/4 like it is now,2 friends kick the other 3 members to prevent anyone from getting rewards just to be mean to people. I do agree with you though – from what has happened to me and from how many posts about it I see it really, REALLY needs to be changed.
Please make a tool to help players organize groups for dungeons. This should be the first priority towards improving dungeons in GW2. Any other improvements are irrelevant if many are stuck trying to make groups and unable to enter.
if you’ll ever going to make a tool for it, please don’t do it the warcraft style (auto groups you), but rather something similar to this website http://gw2lfg.com/ . I really like being able to party up with people from different servers, the website also leaves you an opportunity to express exactly what you want out of the dungeon (farm, speedrun, normal run, looking for friendly people, no newbies allowed, etc), it allows you to modify your post (LF4M, LF3M, LF2M, LF1M) and then it allows you to delete the post after you’re done with finding your group. The only problem with that website is that most people in game don’t know about it. If something similar to that tool got in-game searching for groups would become really easy.
SalvoSo not having a function to group for dungeons (an endgame function for all intents and purposes) is incredibly shortsighted to lack at 5 months since release.
Exactly. Beta didn’t test end game, and they’ve done jack to fix this since release. I quit the game in October after I hit 80 because end game is so bad. Organizing instances is a chore, and if you play on an odd schedule you miss out on a lot of WvW. I keep checking back on the forums everyone once in a while because I’d be willing to come back if they make changes to LFG.
Their lack of response is shocking, especially since they did respond well to many issues during the beta. The only thing they’ve done for LFG is sticky a post 3 months ago and allow players to comment/suggest/beg for changes with absolutely no dev response. It’s insulting. I wish I could get some money back for this incomplete garbage game. I wouldn’t have bought it if I knew they weren’t going to support it after it went live.
i do agree its incredible they havent done anything to better this.
personally i would like compensation for my time wasted in the game and not just refunds..
i also find it extremely insulting to the community and a kick in the balls saying “we dont care even the tiniest bit about you” when something this importent and SO EASY to implement and program isnt made yet and there is no official plans to make it… its a direct offense and its laugheble that whoever is in charge of this still got a job at any company within the game market.
The only easy way out would be to link the website just like the black lion trading post is linked. (as in it’s on a different server and works like the LFG website)
Now it’s not easy to implement in any other shape or form because whatever they would implement people would still be unhappy
- auto dungeon finder (they party me up with newbs! I don’t like it!)
- channel for finding a dungeon (would end up being clustered to hell)
If you don’t like the game, you already got a considerable amount of hours put in enjoying other content, so as far as games go, you got your money’s worth. If you weren’t enjoying the game, you could have seeked a refund earlier. Nobody forces you to play, therefore nobody has to pay you for it.
So people don’t steamroll through the low level areas and dungeons. People would just get their friends to boost them through quests and events. Where’s the fun in 1 shotting everything?
As if the solution isn’t obvious… If you’re not scaled down you get no experience or loot from enemies outside your level range. It turns it into a more traditional approach to leveling, but in my honest opinion, that’s what they should’ve done. It’s less fun overall the way they have it now.
I would much rather not have my character stats constantly distorted than participate in low level content. I understand, this wouldn’t be a preference for everyone; but what is the harm in making it optional?
high levels run in, kill everything for cheap loot, sell cheap loot in high quantities, nobody can level. This system is a must have for the game to work.
if you have no interest in using the best way to find a group then why ask this question?
you put in a new sigil/orb, it breaks the old sigil/orb, but does nothing to the skin
Also in the dredge level if you’re invisible on the console dredge that spawn there will still attack you
That is not true. Spy kit drops your aggro. You are being hit by attacks fired off before your aggro was dropped.
Spy kit is more for dropping aggro while ressing, dredge is not the sole use for it.
then it was a bug when the dude on the console got attacked by dredge that spawned while he was invisible? I’ll know that for the future then and report such things as bugs
WeI purged it with no chat. Think this is hard? Good luck with the swamp fractal.
actually CoF path 3 was harder for me than the swamp fractal. All that one requires is a portal mesmer and people with some speed. CoF path 3 lantern part requires tank builds to keep a few of those pixies or hell knows what they are alive, kill them at the same time with others and immediately start lighting the lantern.
Tank builds? Let’s not be too hasty XD
If you are a DPS build and somehow cannot survive dodging one telegraphed ranged attack every 5s, you drop aggro then burst down the little critter from 100% to 0% in 3s.
I was fine on my necro, elementalist and a mesmer could not even get close to their targets. Those critters sometimes spawn as vets.
in fractals you can do perfectly fine without. Also in the dredge level if you’re invisible on the console dredge that spawn there will still attack you so it’s better for the people on the buttons to be visible and attract more aggro to themselves off the person on the console.
Other people tell me this, but I know from personal experience this is not true, I never get agro on the console even with mobs spawning/standing next to me. I’m a mesmer and once the control panel door is open, I use mass invisibility to get in and use spykits to open door, simple as. If others have spykits and know what they are doing this stage can be completed in less than 1 minute with no deaths. After that all or most of the mobs despawn.
Same as opening the door with them gun things, this can be done alone or with 2/3 people with spykits, kill the last 3 mobs and take the gun things, the others run back out the way. This way AOE don’t get you because you’re all invisible. Again after door is down they despawn.
Spykits make some fractals so much easier and faster.
Spy Kits are wonderful and improve my gaming experience in dungeons in pretty much every way. They also give me something to actually spend Karma on, which is wonderful, since there’s nothing else really worth it. I sure hope they don’t nerf / remove them.
Agreed +1
my party used spykits a lot. I don’t know whether it’s a bug or something, but you definitely need someone visible holding aggro right next to the person on a console, because there are dredge that spawn right on them and hit them, even though they’re invisible.
The same way that spykits have not worked on a console hack in CoE.
in fractals you can do perfectly fine without. Also in the dredge level if you’re invisible on the console dredge that spawn there will still attack you so it’s better for the people on the buttons to be visible and attract more aggro to themselves off the person on the console.
that path bugged out even worse for my group. It would spawn more than 3 (8-10) every 20 seconds and they wouldn’t stop spawning after the boss is dead either. We had to fight all the way to the next boss with more and more veterans rallying down that road and there were no extra wps afterwards either, so if anyone died at any point later they would have to run trough vets rallying down that path in groups. The funny thing is that when you use that wp you also sometimes spawn surrounded by a group of 20 of them because they just kept on pilling.
Lol yeah, this is working as intended just like that game dev said.
are they supposed to be vets and NEVER disappear until the clog the whole way from the wp to the other boss?
WeI purged it with no chat. Think this is hard? Good luck with the swamp fractal.

http://gw2lfg.com/ use this. As a level 80 I recently decided to run every single story mode and on underworld server I was able to find enough people for it, but if you’re on a low population server this helps a great deal. You see there’s a good mechanic in those story modes – you have to re-run then on every alt, making sure that there would ALWAYS be somebody needing the story mode
It sounded like they wanted to skip ahead, and you wanted to stay and fight mobs.
While I find it disgusting that people would boot others just because they are new and inexperienced, I can’t really say you are completely innocent on this matter either. Most players are not new, I can venture to say most players do not enjoy dawdling in dungeons they’ve done hundreds of times.
If you cross the bridge when you come to it, people might feel very justified to not have you cross the bridge with them. I believe in the future you should make your expectations (first time, want to watch cutscenes, don’t want to skip) clear at the start of the dungeon to avoid this kind of things in the future. If your party doesn’t agree, start a new one.
as I understand 3 out of 5 players were all fine with clearing mobs and those 2 skipping were the minority. I would say that everyone should make their intentions clear while still looking for group “LFG dungeon name exp normal run path name”, “LFG dungeon name exp speed run path name”, “LFG dungeon name exp farm path name”.
Now to the OP – do what I do, before running add everyone you don’t know to friends. If something like this happens block and report people that did it. I’m mostly am unhappy with the kick system – plenty of people were kicked by 2 friends for no good reason, just so they wouldn’t get dungeon/ fractal rewards after the last boss. It should require 3 people to kick.
would be nice for that occasional mistake, but if you run the dungeon again you could gain a little more money from the bosses (if that didn’t make a little positive spin, then i failed).
My boyfriend used similar logic to cheer me up “you had fun running those dungeons, now you can have fun again”
I’ve done that a couple times before lol. After the last one, I always double or even triple check if I ever care to exchange my tokens for something specific.
I like your idea though, a 2 minute window for token refunds. Or even if you could exchange whatever it is you got, back to the same dungeon vendor to get half of it’s value of tokens. It’s still better than nothing at least!
yeah, I would accept getting only half of the tokens back too. It’s a bit sad to lose all of them because of my stupid head.
just as in RL, when you buy something, don’t expect the vendor to give your money back
Actually in RL most not consumable items (electronics, clothing) come with a 14 day return policy where you can come in and return the product with an excuse of “I didn’t like it”. In a game such mechanic would be abused, so all I’m talking about is a few minutes refund window to fix accidental mistakes
I know that it’s my own stupidity, but I managed to miss-click and buy the wrong armor class gloves with dungeon tokens. While it’s my own stupidity it made me think, maybe, just maybe a some sort of refund system could be implemented? You have 2 minutes to sell the object back for tokens or something like that?
“The number of accounts terminated as a result of this exploitative activity is actually very small—fewer than 200. However, these people are the very worst offenders, and engaged in this exploit to egregious levels—hundreds and even thousands of times. They knew exactly what they were doing and they knew that their activities would damage the economy.” ~~Mark Kirstein
So, it’s alright to exploit, but not over-exploit?
[General] LF1M for Dev team, need Logic!!
1. People that did it only a few times might not have know that it’s an exploit
2. People that did it only for themselves in small numbers did not break the economy
3. People that did it in hundreds of thousands and sold it knew that it was an exploit, tried to make easy quick profit and broke the economy.
The difference seems to be small between the gear sets.
That’s their claim.
However, I’ve already done the math, assuming a 10% increase in stats (based on their own words stating that the intention is a 5-10% increase in power, as well as estimations based on existing Ascended gear in comparison to Exotics).
The net result is a 23% increase in overall damage as compared to someone with Exotic gear.
That is not a “small” increase.
You’re welcome to check my math here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/I-just-found-out/page/3
wait, if we take a person fully decked out in exotics and compare to a person fully decked out in ascendeds, every item having 10% higher stats, wouldn’t it be a 10% higher stats over exotics in total?
1) I’ve never heard where they said Ascended is the last tier. This would be awesome if true, but source needed I’m afraid.
2) They have said that legendaries will always be best-in-slot. So I don’t think they’ll make lvl 80 legendaries vs lvl 90 legendaries. Given the blowup over Ascended, I think they’ll know better than to do that.

Talks about how they want to ‘keep invalidating old content to a minimum’ (how about not invalidating old content at all guys?), and how ‘all kinds of progression are important’ as an answer to a question about vertical progression. There are other sources, but at this point it’s clear they are including vertical progression of some sort, which is really disappointed me since I bought this game on the premise that once I got to the top I wouldn’t have to keep tweaking my setup every few months. If I wanted vertical progression I wouldn’t have bought this game in the first place.
1. I’ve heard them say that the only reason they’re releasing it is because it was supposed to be in the game, but they couldn’t prepare it fully before launch.
2. Best in spot for level 80. No guarantees if they up the level though.
You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items.
this especially makes me think that they’ll up the level cap. “new legendaries”. Higher level legendaries maybe?
3. the only thing I can find about it:
Q: how important for you is vertical progression in GW2?
A: All progression is important to us, we want to make sure our rewards and progression systems hit a spectrum of players and makes everyone feel excited to play the game.
That is as vague as it can be.
As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).
this doesn’t seem to talk about any other tiers besides ascended and legendary.
I would also like add that we have never said there would be no vertical progression. We do intent to focus on horizontal but we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.
The difference seems to be small between the gear sets.

No, I would rather invest unbelievable amounts of time or money once so that I don’t have to do it every single time the game devs decide to add new tiers of gear (which will likely be at least frequent enough to be in every new expansion).
Yes, it’s a massive grind and will always be larger than the grind for new gear. On the other hand, eventually the grind for the 3-4 tiers of new gear will surpass the grind for a Legendary, so why would I be motivated to do anything other than grind out a Legendary if it means that I get to hop off the gear treadmill and actually enjoy the game?
Why do you think people have been asking specifically for Legendary-tier armor? You think it’s just because it would look pretty? It’s because they can see the upcoming treadmill of gear grind (as the devs have already said they believe in vertical progression) and they want to be able to hop off of it before it gets rolling.
Voltaic Spear in GW1 was a vanity item. A GW2 Legendary not a vanity item as it serves a distinct function (anti-grind protection), and that function should only be available to the most skillful players in the game, the ones willing to trek the entire globe searching for chunks of these artifacts and fighting off the terrible bosses who guard them. There should be story behind these things, actual tangible lore.
The fact that WoW’s equivalent of Legendaries have more story and a better mix of grind-and-quest than GW2’s Legendaries is frankly rather embarrassing, considering that GW2’s devs were toting it as the next step forward in MMO design. Yet in this category it’s clearly several steps backwards.
1. Ascended is supposed to be the last tier
2. There’s no guarantee that the level cap won’t be raised with an expansion and level 80 legendaries wouldn’t be obsolete in comparison to the level 90 legendaries. You can’t win an MMO.
3. Quote where the devs say that they want a vertical progression for this game. As far as I remember it’s a minimal difference between tiers and no vertical progression is there. So source needed for that one.
The 1/3 less stats during normal mooks don’t make a difference.
The 1/3 less stats during bosses make a huge difference.
What’s selfish in my opinion is people not being able to use the 11 inventory slots to swap armor sets when necessary.
I am under the impression many people who use magic find do not swap equipment.
1. You can be poor enough not to have that extra set.
2. The game is much more skill than set based, you can run with yellows and still perform good.
I run high lvl fotm with mf gear on as a guardian, got a problem with that?
yes, you are a drain on the group. might as well take off some agony resistance, because it is the same thing.
he could have tanky stats keeping him alive. As long as you don’t go full glass cannon build (stats, powers and gear) you should do just fine.
He still has 1/3 less stats than everyone else.
MF is selfish and for morons. 100% more of a 5% drop rate is still only 10%. That is not enough to justify gimping yourself.^^THIS^^
How in hell do you people fail so easily at simple math. 100% to a base 1% is 2%, does it really matter if you will (statistically) get 1 or 2 exotics out of 100 monsters?
10% chance on yellows in a fractal is 1/10 chance to get yellow, versus 1/20. During weeks of testing people wearing mf have gotten significantly more yellows than people without it. While getting an exotic is far harder it still improves your profit by a lot.
This is because it isn’t asking for 2/5, it is asking for 2/4 or 2/3 or 2/2.
The person getting kicked doesn’t have a vote. This means that either half the other party members (2/4 in a 5-man) want them out, or a majority of the other players (any smaller group size) want them out.
So requiring 2 players to confirm sets the threshold at 50%, not 40%.
For the rest, yeah, it was handled just fine.
The one getting kicked doesn’t get a vote, so it makes the voting 50% on 50%. Half the group is not enough in any other game but this one. It has to be the majority voting for the kick to actually happen in any other game. I have seen cases where 3 peeps get kicked by 2 just to be kitten. Had all sorts of runs when it comes to dungeons and fractals. The kick system is broken and should require more votes.
The one that annoys me most if the ‘run past everything’ groups. All mobs inside drop yellows and most drop items that make coin.
People seem to forget why they are trying to kill stuff in the first place
Nope. If they actually guarantee yellow+ drops, people will kill them and ANET will soon nerf them. People skip when it’s not efficient. The extra 30 minutes spent killing things could very well be used to do another run.
In most speed runs I’ve gotten blues and greens, while in normal runs I managed to earn 2G due to lodestone drops. The enemies in dungeons and fractals do have a high chance of dropping yellows and valuable items, by skipping them you’re exchanging what could have been your loot for time. I suppose it’s a preference. I prefer expensive loot.
That one time you got a lodestone drop doesn’t justify killing every mob every time.
The simple fact of the matter is, if killing mobs was worth it, people would do it. Plain and simple. If killing mobs was worth the time spent, people would kill mobs.
it’s not once, it’s literally every time I do a normal run. A few yellows or a lodestone. Your chance for getting yellows in a dungeon is something like 5 to 10%. You’re missing out on a lot of loot.
Also a lot of people do do that. There’s reasons to speedrun (you just want the ticket gear) and there’s reasons to do a normal run (you want karma, loot and money).
I think it’s a loot balance – FoTM drops more yellows than a dungeon, but a dungeon drops sellable exotics, cores and lodestones more often.
I second that. It’s an important issue and should be fixed. 3 people should be required to kick someone.

To OP – yeah I know what you mean. On LFG sites and on the map chat I tend to purposively state that I’m searching for friendly people and no speed runners
