I think it would be more helpful for people to comment on what exactly they consider “endgame”

If its the old raid that you do once a week to get gear so you can run the raid again, and again to get more gear to run the same raid again, until a new raid is released and the process begins anew, then no that’s not in the game (thankfully)

I hated that too, but only because it was calendar gated, If I want to run a raid 7 days a week like a lunatic, then let me. The only problem arises when it’s the ONLY way to obtain “x” type of gear or BIS. I left wow cause of calendar gating, now i find it creeping into this… it’s unsettling.

I wouldn’t say that it is in GW2 at all. 3 paths can be done on every single alt getting full reward, the fractal daily can be done on every single alt getting full reward, but after you’ve done it does the instance close? No, you can continue doing so with a bit less reward.

Whatever happened to mobs actually dropping usable gear, not just crafting breakdown gear

Exotic is the highest tier for armor at this point. Mobs drop blues and greens mostly that are level 80 (that’s usable gear). Pin point me to a single MMO where the highest armor tier would have a better drop rate from regular mobs in PVE.

This game does not force you into an activity so the end game is what you want it to be. You can aim for tier 3 cultural skins, you can aim for a legendary, you can do WvW and PvP (this is a PvP oriented game after all), you can run dungeons, you can run fractals, you can aim for achievements and titles, you can level an alt, you can finish your story, you can try jumping puzzles. Being a player that loved sandbox simulation games I have no problems with my imagination. Former goal of mine was to do full map explore – achieved. Main goal now to have 8/8 professions max level.

you can buy a max amount of 3000 gems monthly. Anet limits how much gems you can get. With the current gem to gold rate it’s about 30 gold. What will you do exactly with 30 gold a month?

Um. One of the purchasing options is 4000 gems for $50 USD. That’s more than 3000, and you can purchase 4000 gems multiple times in a month. Not sure where you got your info, but it’s not correct.

purchased a card of 2000 and couldn’t purchase one for my boyfriend, because I got a message stating that I exceeded monthly gem limit. So it’s limited to 1 card I suppose.

That’s a limit on your card then or your area. I’ve purchased (4000) $50 worth of gems for myself and $50 worth of gems for my Husband using the same card 2 minutes later. There is no limit as far as I can tell, and if there is, it’s more than 8000 gems.

so UK cards are limited in this one MMO only? This makes no sense to me. Maybe it was an error or something then.

RNG is in every MMO. This MMO actually has better chances than a lot of other MMOs.
Also you have a better chance to get a precursor if you do 4 different weapons, instead of 4 greatswords. When you do greatswords alone you can only get about what? 1 precursor? Doing 4 different things it raises your chances to get a precursor from 4 different ones.
Now it’s 1/20 chance to get it. You can be extremely unlucky and never get it, you can throw in items for giggles and get it. If you’re that unlucky, buy one instead of gambling.

The current system (low-odds RNG + tradeable precursors/legendaries) encourages people to purchase gems and convert them to gold. ArenaNet knows exactly what they are doing with this, and it has nothing to do with what players want. It’s a cash shop strategy, pure and simple.

I would sell it.
Give me 500 WvW badges though and I would be motivated to do anything for money, buy my precursor, buy the rest of my T6 mats (have a lot of them already) and work my bottom off for a legendary.
That whole WvW thing keeps me from being motivated though. Spent a lot of hours in it. Especially when monthly required it. Out of all of those kills that I did for the monthly got like 2 badges. Got 40 more for doing full WvW explore for my full world explore. Thinking that with my luck 50 kills = 2 badges I just don’t want to go for it.

[POLL] about Ascendeng gear and fractals

Mirta.5029

1. How would you rate the state of Fractals 1-10? ( 1=pre-alpha, 10=perfect, bug-free, balanced)
7
2. How would you rate the state of ascended gear and infusions?
6
3. Do you like the idea of fractals? (Actual quote: “Endless and scaling. The deeper you go, the harder it gets!”)
yes
4. Do you like the new way to access higher levels (now)?
yes
5. Do you like the way they fixed the cap on fractal-levels?
yes
6. Would you like to see more different fractals?
yes
7. Are you still trying to reach higher levels?
yes
8. Do you like how ascended gear is obtained right now?
no (needs more ways – craftable, able to buy it for karma, etc)
9. Do you like the increased (ascended) stats?
yes
10. Do you like the infusions?
no. AR double infusion is a bit of a hassle. Really I’m scared that they will use the same system for dungeons later, so if any dungeon would require AR there should be more ways to get the infusions (example: laurels) and more tiers should be infusable (like for example exotics).
11. Would you like to see more/ different stats/ infusions?
yes.

Being rewarded for doing nothing was never part of the original idea for the game.

Obviously, but the monthly should still be obtainable by all players, even the low levels, which dungeons runs being required doesnt do.

leveling is really fast in this game. by the end of the month you have a high chance to be level 30- 40. If you manage to get to 40 – 45 run AC story and AC explore without worrying too much. If you’re only 30 tackle the story 5 times. It will be hard, but it’s doable.

monthlies are optional. If you don’t feel like doing them, don’t do it. Last monthly made me hate it because of WvW kills. I did not complain though, because I wanted the reward. Nobody was forcing me to do it.

Ahh, but being manipulated (and not even recognise you are )to play the way the devs want you too, then pretending that all is well/optional/not forced too and then do it anyway -instead of staying away/voicing an objection to devs, only reinforce that devs can do what ever they want and move away from their original ideas fot the game.
I have AA to help me--is there a similar organisation for fanboys—maybe FBA?

so you feel like the game should be catered to your needs only?
Let’s listen to me now and from mostly a PvP oriented MMO let’’s cut out WvW. Now let’s listen to you and take away the dungeons. Someone else probably hates Spvp, fractals, dynamic events and all the other things. If the game was personally catered for everyone we would have nothing in it left.

They said that the first event will be up for a few months so that all could have a chance to participate and then more serious week long events that change the world will start popping up (hence the “prologue”)

The story ends with a dragon that resurfaced, the thing that caused all this trouble.

They said that there will be no dragons, but dude, I hope that they’re lying and you’re right. That would be awesome!

I’m just going to say this, and probably get crucified by most of the people.
Isn’t that kind of, pay to win?
I know you can take a ranger, but what if I don’t want a ranger, I automatically need to get gems.

I just simply think that you’re not supposed to go that high until the rest of the AR gear comes out.
Also correct me if I’m wrong but
2 fully upgraded rings – 30 AR
fully upgraded back piece – 15 AR
ascended amulet – 5 AR (I have no clue can you upgrade it to 15)
that would mean that you can stack 50 to 60 AR on yourself out of items available at this point. Maybe getting it to full would help you to die less?

On a saturday or sunday they could. Maybe once a week when the wife is out on girls night. 10 consecutive days to get an ascended ring fast … impossible.

Even if I wanted, even if my girlfriend would allow me to ignore her for 10 days straight while she makes my sandwich, pours my drinks and preps my suitcase in the morning … there’s other things in real life that prevent this.

Don’t get me wrong. I love this game. I would play 4 hours a day if I could. But reality is a puppy. I can’t play that much. A day only has 24 hours. That’s plain physics and unless you’re Albert Einstein, you can’t change that.

I was just saying that because you can’t, does not mean a working man can’t. I live with my boyfriend. We both enjoy gaming, so we can spend 3-4 hours gaming a day. It also counts as spending time with your partner.

Solo Dungeon option - end forced grouping

Mirta.5029

I would like to tell something to all people that think: “end forced grouping”
MMO is not for you.

What’s more, with some “individuals” abilities, making dungeons soloable for everyone would require an empty instance.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen ppl on map chat ask for help in killing x-y or z only to have a flood of “you can solo that” “why do you need a group” replies. A prime example was the Mad King Dungeon.

Since Fractals fewer ppl are doing dungeons at all. And gl to a new player trying to do a story mode or a Fractals lv1 o.o – Not everyone has hours to waste spaming chat or waiting for someone to have dinner, go to the loo, answer the phone and the normal gtg sorry… etc etc. Not including heroes and henchies from GW1 or replacing them with an alternate system for single play was a missed opportunity.

MMO’s are evolving away from the traditional and should be because their biggest claim is always “play the way you want”… and it’s about time they delivered on that claim imo. Why? Because the casual market is huge and has disposable income – to be successful games need both the player numbers and their money.

http://gw2lfg.com/

There you go. I was able to pick up story for AC, CoE and SE at the weirdest times possible (2 AM where there’s not really supposed to even be any players). I’ve seen plenty of successful Fractal lvl 1 LFGs too.

I don’t find it that bad. It’s a very expensive skin that shows that you invested time to get it. Most tier 3 skins also resemble the outfits of the main characters (Eir, (norn, medium armor, tier 3), Zoja (asura, light armor, tier 3)).
Saving up for asura light tier 3 armor at this point.

I disagree with your entire comment

1 you should not be penalized for your play style so t he rewards should be the same.

2 MMO simply means multiplayer that means more than one player playing the in the same world in real time *It Does NOT mean forced grouping and forced guilding. *

It’s a multiplayer online experience. Dungeons are optional. Don’t want to group – don’t do dungeons. Or better yet, follow those insanely skilled guys on youtube and SOLO a dungeon. It has been done before and just because the game recommends you to go in with a 5 man group you’re not forbidden from going in alone.

You also missed the entire point of this thread . Everyone should be able to do everything no matter what their play style is.

and they are! If by play style you mean class, weapon choice, trait choice, ability choice, armor choice. Dungeons don’t hinder that at all. Though remember this is an MMO. I’m a solo player mostly and I don’t mind to group up for dungeons because I understand that I did not buy a single player game.
At the same time you are not following my advice for some reason. The game is not hindering your “play style”. It does not forbid you from entering the dungeons on your own. It just doesn’t make it any easier on you. The same way that you can solo group events. So go on, solo a dungeon! It has been done before by skilled players so surely you can do it too

it is also possible to climb mount Everest but that is not something i would find fun. All i am asking is they make it easier for solo player s and still have the same rewards structure. All they have to do is make the dungeon recognize if a solo player has entered the dungeon and make it the same difficulty as if i was in any other zone out side.

That is my definition of fun .yours may differ.

so essentially it’s not that you want solo, you want easy. I’m sorry, but group events don’t scale down to be easy. Can you do the temple of Lyssa alone? Yes you can. Is it easier? No. Dungeons are essentially the same as group events – not meant for solo therefore not scaled for solo. And in my opinion that’s how it’s supposed to be.

now your just twisting my words i want something that is scaled for 1 person not 5 .

But why would it be? In no game has the dungeons been for 1 man. No group project in reality scales down if you’re alone doing it. Everest does not shrink just because you decided to go alone instead of in a regular group of 10.
It shouldn’t count for hindering your playstyle either, because you can Solo but you choose not to because it’s hard.

Just because there isn’t one now doesn’t means there shouldn’t be there is a first time for everything before people said you cant make a mmo without trinity.

This isn’t reality this is a game it supposed to be fun. Hard does not = fun imo If you need further definition of fun and mmo try reading this.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Defining-MMO

If any game was completely solo able with no difference in rewards it would make no difference the People who want to group will the people who dont wont .

What your suggesting is FORCING people to work as a team , make things incredibly difficult if they don’t or miss out on part of the game.

Why should anyone have to make that choice ?

What I’m suggesting is not erasing optional group content. It’s OPTIONAL. And it’s an MMO. You don’t have to group. All you have to do is invest a bit of time and do something hard. Why would someone have to lower the difficulty for one self entitled whinny kid and still give him full rewards? Want to do it solo? Go ahead. Nobody is stopping you or forcing anything on you. What you’re doing here is sitting and whining “It’s too haaard, mommy make the game easy for me”.

Also the definition of fun by google:
“Adjective: Amusing, entertaining, or enjoyable: “it was a fun evening”."

Some people find hard enjoyable. Some do not. It does not mean that the game has to change to suit your needs though. You know what I don’t enjoy? WvW. However I don’t whine for it to be removed or changed to suit my own personal desires.

Can’t really understand your question, but due to being in situations where the daily was about to roll and being late to complete my daily sometimes I know this:
1. It does not matter when you start your daily. Sit in the fractal for 5 hours if you like, it makes no difference
2. If dailies reset at 7:00 pm and you kill Jade Maw at 6:50 pm you have done your today’s daily. If you kill it at 7:03 pm you have done your tomorrow’s daily.
I hope that that helps.

and grinding the stuff that you cant buy (dungeon tokens, laurels, fractal relics)
i can pretty much get anything i need, except legendaries.

I’m fine with 0 gems a month and I’m still able to gear all of my characters and get everything that I need O_O

everything is possible if you play a lot.
if you tell me you can soak the grind and farm for 250 t6 mats or 250 ectos, well its allright, but i dont like wasting my 15h a week of playtime on “farming”.
to me its boring.

nor do I, I just play it slow and gather money. If I do 1 fractal run a day – 2 G on average right there, if I do 1 dungeon run, around 1 G there, if I level and sell mats – around 5G if I collect a lot. Then after a certain amount of Gs in my bank I buy what I need. I’m mostly just thinking that there’s no rush

farming is for masochists

actually you’re only allowed to buy that many gems monthly, so the game wants you to sell the mats that you don’t need and buy the ones that you do need.

To answer OP: farming over 30 minutes should be useless because DR kicks in, but yes, getting 2 yellows drop in 45 minutes is a really good drop.

This is one of the brilliant features implemented by Anet to solve the player playing with other players problem you find in other MMO’s. Non-competitive quests and resource nodes are other features that address the same problem. In other MMO’s players of your own faction can be your worst enemy. And, adding more players to a zone there is like adding more rats to a cage. Eventually, they begin eating each other.

Anet, solved the problem of players successfully playing with other players through thoughtful game design. What you see as a problem I see as a solution.

Exactly my thoughts. Until Nov 15th this game was the best game out there in terms of player equality and gameplay choices. Now however FoTM seems to be the only way to get any loot drops of any kind. Until the loot is fixed so that it is indeed equal (ie as soon as they finally learn from history and remove DR) then it will return to being an equal affair.

It is just as important to games as it is in any social structure to have equality in everything. Having a longer more dramatic grind for those who actually have lives and can’t be online constantly is not equality in my opinion sorry and demanding that more be done to further segregate players by their play styles due to their real life circumstances doesn’t help matters.

Unless you sit there and kill the same kind of mob in the same kind of area for over 30 minutes DR should not even kick in. It’s not hard to make profit without farming you know.

Because spending 20 minutes in Arah for the same reward is just THRILLING >:3

Also what do you mean by noobs in berserkers?
Talk to any 40+ fractal group, you’ll find 1 Guardian in Clerics, 1 Necro in Carrion, and 3 people in Berserkers.

You have to be REALLY skilled to run in Berserker. Most in CoF that run Berserker are not skilled even the least and yet they think of themselves as the best around and would boot anyone in any kind of different gear (they boot non warriors too), even though a guardian could deliver more damage with a hammer than a warrior, a condi type warrior can do the same amount of damage as a regular or more and a toughness based dude can make sure that others don’t sit on their kitten for too long.

So the average 9-5 worker has 5 hours between getting home at let’s say 6pm, and going to bed at 11, to do whatever. Which includes household business like cooking, eating, potential family time if that’s in their life, leaving a safe guesstimate of 2-2.5 hours for hobbies, of which playing GW2 may not be their only one.

then it’s their problem. Being a gamer family I can see how both family time and eating can include playing at the same time. If you decide to dedicate your time to a different activity it’s your own choice, but you can’t ask to get more by doing less, because you had the choice to play GW2 instead.
You are even given extra stuff to help casuals (laurels) and you’re complaining that it’s not enough.

but can you count all of those variables in or do you take a number that’s accurate? Like I said I can’t count in the different number of variables because it’s different for every person.
If to count in the variables the number of days that takes to do the fractals might increase as well because what about casuals that only do a fractal daily only once every month? See how you can’t count in the variables?

Sure I can. Or rather … a.net could. By looking at log in numbers and completion of dailies of all sorts, they can make up some nice graphs. By doing so, they could design their content around a completion rate that 80+% of their playerbase falls into. Personally, I feel laurels are balanced around that. I am personally content with a slow yet steady gain of ascended gear. Maybe a.net could release this info in a blog, but that’d a bit optimistic

Turn it any way you want, but content has to be balanced around people who have 10+ hours of their day planned already. The kind of people that have gasp a job. People that have the disposable income to invest big amounts of money into games they rarely play. I’m thinking of the 30 years old father who takes his 4000 euro race bike to work two or three times a year. Just a thought experiment.

A lot of people have a job. But do you deserve to get more while doing less in an MMO because real life gets in the way? It takes me an hour or so to do the daily while leveling. Not a lot of time. Working people manage it. Working people also manage to run 1 fractal daily.
I can not count in the variables in this case. I have no info from Anet about how long an average person plays. It’s completely random. So I take the sole calculation of how many dailies and monthlies in laurels it takes and how much dailies it takes in Fractals.
Also a person working 9 to 5 can invest 3-4 hours a day on an MMO.

I’m counting if you only have 1 character running fractals (I will probably never get my alts up to level 10 because that would be tiring) and the rings that you need don’t drop (ran the daily 40 times now, only 2 times did I get any ring drops).
Dailies take max an hour a day to do. I know where you’re coming from, but it’s true that if you do the dailies for 50 days and both monthlies it will only take you 50 days.
I can’t make my argument any more honest because if to count in the days that people can’t even log in because they have real life to sort out the number can be any amount of days having in mind that every single human pretty much has a different schedule and a different amount of free time.

And yet you propose 21 days of grinding FotM as a honest alternative. It’s not.

The difference here is between people without a schedule, who can play fractals non stop. They could make a ring every third day. On the other hand you have people with a schedule. They can make a ring every month.

Not that I mind. I like a long term goal in my MMO, and I like putting in a bit of daily time towards a long term goal. A month of casual play per ascended sounds just right to me.
The only thing I’m asking from you is a bit of honesty. Your 21 days of FotM vs 50 days of laurels is not honest because both ends of the spectrum are vastly different. This lowers both the 21 days of FotM and raises the 50 days of Laurels.

I think you misunderstood me. I was defending the dailies saying that the time difference is not that big. I counted getting from level 1 to 10 as one day because if I counted it as 10 someone would have once again raged that I’m lying and it doesn’t take that long. So I took the smallest window of time that a nolifer would have to spend to earn a ring that he wants.

Well… this no lifer has two alts on scale 20. He can make a ring every 2.5 days. The casual who plays 4 days out of 7 needs 61 days to complete a single ring. And frankly, doing the same thing for an hour, 4 days out of 7 for two months … pretty addicted by all non-gaming standards.

but can you count all of those variables in or do you take a number that’s accurate? Like I said I can’t count in the different number of variables because it’s different for every person.
If to count in the variables the number of days that takes to do the fractals might increase as well because what about casuals that only do a fractal daily only once every month? See how you can’t count in the variables?

House Rules

Didn’t have any rules trough my leveling process, though now I’ve set up in a pretty weird way:
- only my necromancer sylvari runs fractals. All the money that she earns she has to put in the bank. She has to earn rings for all of my characters.
- until my guardian is level 80, my thief has to earn her the full CoE gear, all the money that she earns she has to put in the bank.
- my level 35 guardian is the only one allowed to complete dailies. She needs all the exp she can get!
- banked money belongs to my main, first level 80, asura elementalist. She has to buy her T3 gear and later reach for at least 1 legendary weapon.
All other characters, except for my main asura have to be self sufficient. The game gives you enough cash to have good gear and to buy all of your books. If any of my characters will lack money on their way to 80 I’ll know that I did something horribly wrong.

Am I right?

Okay. This MMO does not have any more or less end game content than other MMOs.
- run dungeons
- get skins
- run fractals
- finish your story (spoiler – the last part of it is Arah story mode)
- level an alt
- do WvW or Spvp (it’s weird to me that you got in a game that’s heavily based on PvP even though you don’t like PvP)
- do jumping puzzles and find them all!
- do achievements
- get all the pets
Now also ask yourself what would you be doing in other MMOs? Running raids to get the best gear? Then what? If you find that the game does not interest you anymore put it away and do something else for a while.

And that is exactly the motivation behind this thread, people who need help shouldnt be paid as much as people who dont. Its only natural as my example shows.

because then you would be motivated to tackle everything on your own and not team up with people.
Your comparison is quite bad as well:
Imagine you’re in school and the teacher gave everyone a group project to do. You didn’t want to work with other people, so you tried your best and made the best project possible. You got an A. John’s group made out of 5 people invested a lot of time and effort and did a great project too. They all got an A.
You will not get an AAA just because you decided to tackle a group event on your own, however you might have just proved to yourself that you can do it. That’s the only point of tackling group events (projects) on your own.

So I been looking at the legendary weapons and they are the same as extoic.
I don’t see the difference, are they actually going to change the stats sometime because what the point of making a legendary but just to show off?

That was the whole point from the beginning.

However, back in November they did state that the stats will be buffed to ascended status.

So they will be buffed?

yes. And then they will have the exact same stats as an ascended weapon. They will never have higher stats than the highest tier that will always be easier to get than a legendary.

It will take me months regardless. But that’s not the point. People who do 4 easy FotM dailies a day get a ring every 2.5 days with virtually no effort. It’s a time sink but not more than that. For normal people who work 9 hours a day, it’s still 50 days (not counting all the days spent with friends, loved ones, family, other games etc etc).

So that makes the difference quite apparent. 2.5 days per ring for locust vs 50++ days for humans.

And that’s not sarcasm. Merely logging into the game can be a tremendous effort at days. Not that I want stuff for free, but when you claim a ring takes 10 days in fractals, you’re lying. And with 50 days through laurels, you’re lying too. Please state your arguments in an honest way, and people will respect you for it.

I’m counting if you only have 1 character running fractals (I will probably never get my alts up to level 10 because that would be tiring) and the rings that you need don’t drop (ran the daily 40 times now, only 2 times did I get any ring drops).

>1 day to get from level 1 to 10

>1 day

>1…

…..

That would literally be the worst day of my life. Running fractals more than once a day makes my teeth itch.

I see where you’re coming from, you want everything the game has to offer NOW NOW NOW and you literally cannot STAND it when there are barriers put in the way to stop you grinding solidly for 30 hours to get something in a day and a half which is designed to take you a month.

However, most of us are not like you, we are normal. We can wait for things. We have patience. To us, 20 days is a short time, not an eternity that you might as well dismiss out of hand.

I think you misunderstood me. I was defending the dailies saying that the time difference is not that big. I counted getting from level 1 to 10 as one day because if I counted it as 10 someone would have once again raged that I’m lying and it doesn’t take that long. Very very easy (it’s my favorite path to run in CM to be honest).
4 of you grab a barrel. Get a tough person lure the enemies towards the barrels and make him spam picking the barrels up and putting them on the floor. All enemies get really concerned with that and will be busy picking the barrels up and smacking the tough guy. In the mean time you have enough time to put down your 4 barrels, to run and get the other one and plop down the 5th one (the enemies will be completely ignoring barrels all the way over there because they will be worried about that barrel spam happening with the tough guy), though beware your tough guy will die eventually, but as a strategy to win time it works.

Zookeeper I’d like to add this tidbit to support your argument. I’d love for the naysayers to explain again how Ascended gear isn’t tremendously better then Exotic and won’t produce an unfair advantage in WvW or PVE? I have attached an image comparing two pieces to their exotic counterparts to illustrate my point. I can only imagine the huge advantage the ascended armor will have.

Why the frig did you go for an all rounder? Congrats, all your stats are raised by 30, but you just lost 57 toughness -_- plus in specific stats anyone wearing an exotic is beating you right now.
To be honest even if you were comparing a strong ascended with 3 stats (not an all rounder that people find useless), normally what happens is one of your stats gets increased by 20 points, but a different stat gets lowered by 10. In total an ascended is just 0.5% better than an exotic, having in mind that some people choose to wear rares, or greens and still kick kitten ascended will not make much of a difference.

I’d just like to point out what’s already been mentioned above. Look at the amount of time it takes to get rings from Fractals compared to Laurels. The difference is HUGE! Not to mention, the only way to get Amulet’s is from Laurels. So spending them on rings is complete waste of time. We’re all be herded into Fractals whether we like it or not.

That is how Anet is dropping the ball to me. They are trying to social engineer our behavior instead of creating balance and equality.

21 days versus 50 days. The difference isn’t all that horribly big.

And they will release different ways to get ascendeds. Look at the laurel system – 50 dailies, 2 monthlies and enjoy your rings gotten without fractals.

Interesting that you should make this claim since I have failed to do several monthlies. Why? Because they require fractal completion, dungeon completion or both.

Last monthly would not have given you laurels anyway and what is wrong with completing 5 dungeons exactly? You can do it in a day and it is classified as PVE content. If you chose to specifically not complete it, because you dislike a certain part of the monthly, you can only blame yourself for not getting that extra karma, coins and laurels.

Instead they caved in to the whines of the WoW content locusts and opted for yet another endless gear treadmill.

I don’t think that you know what a gear treadmill is. A gear treadmill is when you’re required to get a gear tier in order to get a different gear tier. When in this game you can get from green to pink using those words is stupid of you.

Watch this space when TESO comes out.

Terra can be a threat because of being another subscription free MMO, TESO however will probably not get that many players. Why?
1. Doesn’t follow the lore of TES games.
2. Does not have any kind of new or innovative fighting system.
3. Subscription fee.
4. Does not look graphically advanced.

This is pretty much a solo game...

Doesn’t seem so to me or anyone I know. If they dropped the ball I wouldn’t see more and more people everyday. Seems to me like a few people grasping onto some 5 year old “manifesto” like it’s the bible can’t stop telling everyone the sky is falling when it’s actually raining gold.

Because it’s unreasonable to expect them to stick to their word when, for many, that was the reason they bought the game in the first place?
Nice to see some people so indoctrinated that they couldn’t care less about getting bullkittened as long as their virtual skinner box keeps lighting up…

actually so far I haven’t seen how did they fall away from their manifesto or how did they lie… Then again I’m a person that actually enjoys playing this game and doesn’t whine about every single change in it.

Oh yay…1 laurel a day…35 for rings/30 for amulets. Still doesn’t make up for the fact that there’s no real other way than FOTM. That is, if you dont mind waiting 3 months for 3 pieces of gear. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy FOTM, but like anything else, if that’s the only way to get something, especially something so little, it gets old fast…even faster than raid content in other games.

That’s about 2 months for the rings, not 3 and running FOTM will get you the rings in 21 days (1 day to get from level 1 to 10, 20 to run dailies 20 times) and there’s no way to get ascended amulets trough fractals.

Meant the 3 months if you don’t run FOTM. There’s plenty of people avoiding FOTM because they don’t like the constant dungeoning over and over. I wouldn’t have a problem with it IF it didn’t affect other parts of the game, which is has. There are plenty of servers that have issues with world events even before FOTM dropped, but it has just made the problem larger since then. Again, the post was about making FOTM initially the ONLY way to get something (still the most efficient, yet repetitive way), as opposed to before, which in turn affected other parts of the game.

But isn’t it a late complaint having in mind that they launched the laurel system?
Also low pop servers will always have trouble and high pop servers will never see the problems, because they aren’t experiencing it. I’m on Underworld (high pop, not the highest one though) and there’s always enough people to complete events. The only areas that were semi empty was the Orr, but now that it was fixed it’s far more lively (recently tried re-completing it again on an alt just for the exotics and the money it gives you).

Late, maybe, but it’s still valid. Like it was pointed out, the Laurel system seems a bit flawed. 38-41 max a month? OOO….yay. Only way to get Amulets, on top of the other perks it offers. It just seems like another half-kitten attempt at adding/fixing things which seems to be the norm these day’s in the MMO world.

well monthlies/ dailies are only step one. They’re going to convert the rest of achievement points to it later, so I don’t really see what to cry about.

Really the reason behind it were people that complained that there’s nothing to do in the end game. Then they got what to do and complained about it.

Only a small portion of people, the content locusts that appear at the opening of every game and destroy all the content in it within a matter of weeks, complained about having nothing to do in the game. This fix would have been great for them, if not for the fact that they had already quit and left by the time this “fix” was released. Go back and check forums prior to Nov 15th- all those “there is nothing to do after 80” posts had vanished over a month before this patch released.

So the complaining is now being done by the people who were left behind to deal with the mess those locusts created before heading off to the next shiny game to ruin it.

well actually complaining lasted until November 15th and sometimes still appears. recently I’ve seen yet another topic of “What to do when you hit 80?”
Personally I’m not an obsessed fractals runner, but I don’t hate them either. I wish that the complaining about ascended would not have left such a great impact and the rest of ascended gear would have been already rolled out, that way my lower level toons could bypass exotics all together and go straight to ascendeds.

Actually, wh te Laurel system, it’s only Amulets, not rings, which makes FOTM the only way to get rings still.

did you flip the other page? It sells rings for 35 laurels each O_o

People tend to get that way when a company pointless murders a game they like simply because their monetization department deemed it a good idea. :-P

@OP: Anet already stressed that they wanted to fix everyone getting funneled into FotM… its just taking a REALLY long time. It took them 2 months just to get out one other method of getting ascended gear, so it will probably take a full year to get us back to the point that this game was at prior to the Nov 15th release.

Unfortunately, the Nov 15th patch was similar to SWG’s NGE patch (also released on Nov 15th), both in how it was accepted by the userbase and how it affected the game. The repairs to the damage Anet did with it will take a LONG time. Give it about 6-8 more months and the game will be back to an acceptable place. Not quite what it was before, but better than it is now.

Well I don’t really get how it’s the fault of the monetization department when you can’t buy any advantage to getting ascendeds and there’s no subscription fee so they’re not getting anything out of you not playing it.
Really the reason behind it were people that complained that there’s nothing to do in the end game. Then they got what to do and complained about it.

. It’s the first (that I’ve seen) instance in this game to where we have vertical progression. Now before the fanboi’s start their flaming, look at how this is set up. Prior to FOTM, there were many different ways you could gear out your character. You could farm karma, farm dungeons, WvW, or craft your gear.

And they will release different ways to get ascendeds. Look at the laurel system – 50 dailies, 2 monthlies and enjoy your rings gotten without fractals.

If you don’t think gear plays a difference in this game, please, go WvW or dungeon farm in Arah with greens/rares compared with Exotic/Acended and tell us all that there’s absolutely no difference.

Does it play no difference? No. But there’s very little difference really. I’ve gotten kills in WvW with a level 40, I’ve seen videos of people running fractals in blues, running dungeons in whites, just for a laugh, I know people not bothering to go for Exotic and I know people that won’t bother going for ascended either.

I have no clue what you’re even trying to say with this post. You just seem like another angry person.

Mirta.5029

Meh… it’s completely true that a level 80 is better suited to taking out lower level dungeons. Please don’t try to argue about armor lowering, I could go in with all whites with no stats ( still need slots ) and still outfight any level 30 on AC.

Here’s what you have over a level 30,

- 50 trait points
- level 80 sigils
- level 80 runes
- possible level 80 food buffs

For example, my D/D ele will out-perform any level 30 D/D purely because I have 500 specialized stats over them already. I have traits that buff my utilities so I can use them faster and more effectively and in some cases I have access to traits that they wouldn’t have like evasive arcana.

Runes and Sigils; I personally use Superior Rune of Energy and Battle. Those 2 increase my survivability and damage by leaps and bounds over that of a level 30. There is no way they can even hope to match me using their level 30 sigils. They are also limited to minor runes which are less effective compared to my superior runes.

Food I guess isn’t really used too often in AC, but imagine someone using Omnomberry ghosts, that pretty much makes any level 80 cloth class ( well those who spec precision or perma fury ) tankier than level 30 guardians.

Unfortunately, since almost everyone has at least 1 character at 80 now, it’s a far lower priority for devs to try to balance dungeon instances for the intended levels instead of 80. Not to say it’s not possible… I mean, I did AC path 1, 2 when I was level 38 and the highest level was level 50, but really, having even 1 level 80 makes it infinitely easier given that some can solo it and most if not all can duo it.

both trait points and sigils scale down. I haven’t once seen a person use a food buff for a dungeon.

What I think of the dungeons now

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Mirta.5029

Mirta.5029

Why? In long story, GW2 Dungeons are always horribly bad because their level of difficulty is next to impossible

Please, don’t make me laugh. Dungeons in this game are ridiculously easy. The only fights I have ever consistently wiped on during my first few runs were Lupi and Dwayna in Arah. EVERY other boss I have killed on the first try without knowing any tactics beforehand. If this is “next to impossible” in difficulty, I do not want to know what you consider acceptable. I can remember other games where you would spend weeks trying to kill just one of the bosses in a dungeon. Games where it took months before anyone had completed the hardest instances, where it took weeks from hitting level cap until you would even considering doing more than the easiest dungeons (which were about as hard as Arah at the easiest). Please give us dungeons like the Tomb of the Vulture Lord from WAR, Hammerknell/Infernal Dawn from Rift, or anything that is actually challenging pve content.

Say that again with a full party of level 35-40 on ac explorer. ANet screwed up on level scaling. Level 80 with exotics trivialize all content in the game while a group of level 35 will not be able to finish.

Arah only hard because you are fighting at your “proper” level

the only reason it’s harder on level 35 is because your gear has 2 stats instead of 3. Level 45 gear is a 3 stat gear. And what do you know suddenly all dungeons at appropriate levels (AC and TA (I believe)) become more than just doable.

Exactly. Anet screwed up. Unlike GW1, GW2 focuses too much on gear and traits.

No it doesn’t. How is it a screw up if the content is just as hard for a level 80 on exotics as it is for a level 45 on yellows?

No, Level 80 doing level 35 content is easier than level 35 doing level 35 content.
I am arguing this problem.
Arguably, doing cm explorer at the proper level is harder than doing the easier arah paths.

Due to cm broken mechanics

Did CM with level 50s and we blitzed it. We died like 3 times in total. Did AC with level 45s and it’s completely fine. I guess you don’t have a single level 80 character, because you have no clue how much the gear actually scales down.

I have a level 80 mesmer and I do play these dugeons near the proper level and at level 80. I noticed that I died alot less and I was playing quite badly because I forgot all the bosses mechanics. Level scaling is a joke. Traits and gear makes too much of a difference.

Note: I love playing difficult content. Current fotm 37. Trying to get to 50+ but the new patch killed my enthusiasm.

I doubt it kid.
I have level 80s myself and on AC they scale down to level 45 gear. If I come in with a level 45 I get the exact same difficulty.
Also why would you want to go into fractals level 50+ where it wasn’t the skill that carried players, but rather the amount of revive orbs that they’ve bought?
