Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I got no clue how you guys are doing it because my first full cleric necro build drove me mad and as sepreh said, it hits like a wet mop. Now I’m running something a little more offensive with only 600+ hp with fare better results (for me).
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
My triple meditation guardian doesn’t have much issue with greatsword mesmers either but what do you guys do about pu mesmers? I sort have just accepted that match up as a walk away and hope he isn’t the power variant.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’m of a completely different opinion. All our main hand weapons are horrible imo. So much so that I sit here brain storming builds for the off chance we get a short bow or long bow since I really dislike everything but GS, hammer, and torch and I don’t want to use any combination of the 3.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I do agree that there needs to be more counter play to stealth, but I hope anet gives thieves a roll in this game independent of this cheesy gimmick first. Even stealth on mesmers is too much since you are forced to either use ranged channeled/aoe attacks to maintain pressure (if you can predict where he is properly) or sit amongst a bunch of terrible ai applying conditions on you while the mesmer repositions.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
condi necros too op or is it just me???
warrior running melandru runes, -40 condi food zerker stance and stamina signet and still gettin my kitten handed in 1v1 9 out of 10 times. tried med guard, same scenerio.
anyone else, feels as useless as me fighting them?
Don’t bother with the meditation guardian. One of my best characters is a meditation guardian and the only condition class she can fight is warrior. It’s not that conditions necros are op, it’s that condition spam is op. The combination of tanky condition classes, condition spam, and bad condition cleansing distribution makes tanky condition classes far too powerful.
I feel utterly useless on every character I own but my siphoning necro who is fortunate enough to have decent transfers on her weapons and consume conditions. I’m not pigeon holed into trying to fit in utilities just to fight the half of the game.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I absolutely hate condition immunities (since it punishes people who uses conditions for utility rather than unloading) but I hate condition spam even more, so I’m fine with things like diamond skin since it will wake anet up once it reaches more ridiculous levels. Both condition spam and condition removal need a rework since condition warrior is probably the only acceptable condition class imho (extreme amounts of counterplay can be done even with 0 condition removal). I once read someone suggest that conditions should crit and I completely agree since that would force condition classes into being glassier or tanky while hitting for nothing like the situation power classes are forced into. As things are, conditions classes have little reason not to be ridiculous tanky while still bursting people down.
My thief is unplayable vs condition classes because I hate sitting in stealth for ridiculous amounts of time and the utility condition removal is horrible. My meditation guardian equipped with smite condition and contemplation of purity simply doesn’t have enough condition removal to burst them down before the next wave. I’m currently stuck playing my siphoning spectral necromancer since I can choose my utilities freely while letting my opponents handle their own conditions.
Conditions are simply whack so bring on the immunities anet.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
In wvw bomb/nade engies take an extreme amount of skill imo because their opponents have the freedom to move and the engineer will need to aim and time his attacks well. In pvp on the other hand, it’s fairly face roll and you will realize this if you ever catch one of these engineers between points, they’re almost free kills.

Similiar to “Necrid Trap” from Lupicus.

There’s a link to these for every class in the description for the video you posted.
Unfortunately most of those videos just show how lame conditions can be/how bad most people are outside of their zerg.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
This is extremely interesting since I just recently started messing around with a longer burning duration on my meditation guardian since I found it extremely helpful for the people who decided I hit too hard and wanted to kite.
I probably won’t try making a burning guardian, but I see this helping out my med guardian in the future. Even then, this is how I imagined condition classes should play out by dissecting and focusing your build around 1 or a few conditions. It’s unfortunate that most condition play in this game is fighting to have access to every condition in the game and then dropping it on your opponent as soon as you have the opportunity.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Cleric’s ascended daggers look hot on my fancy necro. Can’t say the same for all the butt fugly armor I will transmute instantly once I’m done.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
1. Cripple is too powerful outside of an auto chain imo. I think a low duration torment is good enough.
2. The skill isn’t bad, but I think it should be replaced with some sort of power based active skill to set off putrid mist like warrior LB 3. (The fear will also put staff out of a job)
3. I would move this skill down to the 5th spot and add a duration to the mark.
4. I think this skill is too complicated and should be replace with some sort of tether which weakens your target and nearby enemies giving might to nearby allies depending on how many enemies are affected.
5. I would remove the detonation and scrap the confusion and poison (puts corrosive poison cloud out of a job if it had one lol) and instead focus on blind and torment. The duration could use being dropped to 5s and I would move it down to the 3rd position.
Very good ideas overall, but I felt like there was too much fire and forget going on. I would have personally used 1-2 to create an opening to blow 3-5 then pressure them with dagger/x while they struggle to navigate it all.

Dodge 2 times then find nearest cliff and jump down
Don’t worry, he’ll take the long way down and still catch up. Unless you mean commit suicide which is probably for the best.

I’ve just accepted good thief players as a counter to my build. They reset the fight till you have no ds and spectral skills are on CD and then take their sweet time killing you without posing to large a threat to themselves.
It does annoy me since a thief vs my meditation guardian is like a moth to a flame, but that’s an extremely unfair comparison.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It doesn’t necessarily have to be a great sword, but I would love to have a proper 2h power weapon that can aoe. I feel like I’ve lost a fight if I ever have to use the staff in it.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I made my spectral siphoning necro and this is easily the closest I’ve gotten to an attrition play style while still being able to kill things. It’s just slightly off, but I can’t do anything more for it than to wait for the buffs to roll in. Any day now…
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I don’t mind the initiative system, the problem only arises when anet introduces powerful mechanics a lot of classes have to jump through hoops to get/use with it. Immobilize and dazes are far too powerful an ability to be spammed, but it’s happening and it’s allowed.
In most cases I have to hope these guys don’t interrupt me or dodge when I drop a putrid mark/deathly swarm, then I can finally heal in peace as they panic with their own confusion on them. It’s a horrible rune and the people who build to use it clearly don’t expect much retaliation from their opponents. I personally hope it gets nerfed to the level of the superior rune of resistance (by that I mean an insane ICD) so people can move on from these troll builds.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Between DS and my daggers, there isn’t much room for staff. If I’m lucky I can begin and end fights with it otherwise I will rarely use it. First sight of a power based 2 hand weapon on necro will have me shelfing it.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
You should be asking to buff Rangers IMO. Your class sucks, and you should be ashamed for come here saying that you waste so many time playing a kitten class.
Seconded. As a ranger owner myself, it pains me to say that I pray every night for the day Anet allows class changes. He’s going to turn into an engineer because I didn’t realize how stupid and forced the pet mechanic would be.
On the other hand, warrior has a ridiculous amount of passive gameplay going on which is blown out of proportion when you factor in the cc and mobility the class has access to. As a warrior owner myself, I struggle to find a more active play style to call my own over this cc and run for heals if it doesn’t work play style every other warrior is using.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Just hope one of those guardians don’t use torch since torch > HS. Conditions and longbow are your friend like everyone said. I would say cc’s are actually not so hot against meditation guardians since well timed blocks and blinds will have you eating large portions of their bursts while you swing around slow cc weapons.
Don’t look at hammer.

If blood thirst is indeed the problem, buff necromancer siphoning base values to match the bonus blood thirst provided. Though I think blood thirst should still stick around as a trait that instead increased damage done while siphoning (more than now) and the signet of vampirism can have it’s siphoning damage nerfed to garbage.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I think it just needs to be remade. No amount of features on an ICD that large and with a healling that small unaffected by BT will receive much use. I thought the original data mined version was fine and could use some tweaks and I didn’t agree with those that wanted it to be on hit but now I do.
Above all, this signet is very complicated and restricting.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
1. Make Asura unplayable – They blow unbalanced things out of proportion and make balanced things feel unbalanced.
2. Have less instance based content (things like wintersday and dragonbash is refreshing and fun, most living story content however is not).
3. Space out story content better – I’ve long since stopped caring about the living world since it felt like I couldn’t visit everything there was to see while doing real world things.
4. Toning down passive combat – Things like healing signet, mesmer clones, ranger pets and certain condition unloading classes.
5. Removing soul bound – I’ve almost had friends quit the game when spending karma
6. Giving ascended weapons and armor the same stat switching treatment as legendaries due to the grind and giving legendaries some other exclusive feature.
7. Stop disguising features that should be built into the game as new and exclusive gem store items. I don’t mind upgrade items being in the gem store, but with the sheer amount of currencies, mats, and skins that keep being added to this game, I expect anet to give the bare minimum of bank space required to handle it all for free. It almost gives this game a f2p feeling when the base game is so restricting.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
If race changing is such a massive issue I hope they go back on their stance on class changes. I need to drop my ranger and I’ll never look back.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
On the topic on the state of necromancer, I do agree that anet doesn’t seem to know what they are doing with the class. They either give us things we didn’t ask for that breaks the class further or nerf the things we did ask for before they are even released. Siphoning traits like vampiric and vampiric precision are horrible, so much so that I wish vampiric was replaced in the blood magic line with anything and combined with vampiric precision to become a major.
Since launch I wanted to build around siphoning, but that playstyle is heavily neglected. My current siphoning build only works somewhat because I invested in spectral abilities which didn’t cross my mind till this month.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Adept
Last Breath: Chill foes hit by channeled attacks for 3 seconds (10sec ICD)
Master
Nurtured Soul: Gain health while above 50% life force.
Immortal: While under the effects of regeneration, you generate life force.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It’s too bad that Anet doesn’t seem to know what they want to do with the necromancer. Sustain? what sustain? conditionmancer’s have one of the most obnoxious hard hitting bursts in the game that can only be countered by an equally obnoxious amount of condition removal and broken immunities. Our sustain is subpar at best and any new toys for sustain seems to be doa.
I’ve settled down on what I think necromancer sustain should look like and I’ll just sit on my hands till anet decides to tweak our sustain, otherwise I’m happy with my results.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Wait… what? They added a ICD to spectral life generation? seriously?
I haven’t been playing much wvw or pvp since I’ve been mostly crafting if I can get in game but was this even a necessary change? I mostly use spectral abilities for their utilities and the life force generation is a bonus, but I don’t understand the reasoning behind this change.
Consider that they buffed Spectral Armor from 3% when hit to 8% when hit as well as let it apply while in death shroud. The ICD there was actually justified (though it was a nerf if you get hit 3 times per second).
Ah it’s from that patch, I never saw that point or forgot. Thanks for the response.

Well hopefully necromancer’s will cut back on the dire/rabid gear and go hybrid so that they have a chance against diamond skin elementalists and other classes with less than optimum condition removal will have a chance against them.
I think diamond skin is stupid, but I got an elementalist in the works to abuse it. Anything that will flip the bird to this kittenty condition meta is ok by me.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Testing this healing skill again, I recommend nobody waste their skill points on this skill if they didn’t do so already, including those of you who think you can build around this skill. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by any and every kind of damage in this game with the crappy heals.
It doesn’t help that the passive doesn’t count as a siphon so it isn’t affected by bloodthirst.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I dropped this signet in the first 10 minutes of using it. You will never see the end of a fight using this signet unless you maybe built around it.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
What happens if you go Full Vampire?
Siphoning can be made 20% better with Bloodthirst.
Hits can siphon with Vampiric.
Getting hit can siphon with Signet of Vampire.
Crits can siphon with Vampiric Precision.
Minions/Wells can siphon.
Signet of the Locust has an AoE siphon.
Dagger skill Life-Siphon siphons, and can be traited for shorter cooldowns and gain toughness while channeling the siphon.
Superior Sigil of Blood siphons.
Superior Sigil of Leeching siphons.
Superior Rune of Vampirism siphons 2×.What happens if you put a bunch of these together with some healing power? Siphoning is both offensive and defensive, and they did recently improve the scaling on both parts right? I will probably play around with a vampire build and see what happens. (My Necromancer is a Norn, so he already has Wolf form which has a pretty decent life steal on a short cooldown)
Fixed one part of it. The sad part is that even with all the siphoning stuff a necro gets, the majority of the siphoning still comes from non-necro sources (sigil, runes, food).
This pretty much explains why I loosely consider myself a siphoning necromancer since the siphoning is terribly weak. Most of my survivability comes from spectral skills with the siphoning used more as means to by time till CC is off cd.
My only source of siphoning is traited life siphon, vampiric, and my sigil of blood, which only works out well because of dark armor and spectral walk/armor which lets me come out on top in a damage exchange. This signet would have changed everything since I dish out most of my damage while tanking theirs.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Bloody hell… This was going to round out my siponing necro perfectly without having to take useless traits like vampiric precision and so on. The data mined version had me almost deciding to put down CC and dealing with the condition spam we will be experiencing from this point onward solely with traited dagger oh and staff.
The only thing that might save this worthless signet is allowing it to heal in DS, I might take a look at it again if it did that.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Does this signet passive still siphon health from your opponent? I read somewhere that it only heals you when attacked which would kill this for me even more.
Edit: Nvm got a chance to read some of the posts, this signet is about dead for me.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It sort of makes sense since you are giving up your ability to sustain yourself (albeit not so well) to revive an ally. Though it’s life force generating abilities is the same reason why reaper’s precision is a horrible trait, even if you paired the two.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Running vamp traits with MM works well, vamp master is a sick trait and it keeps me alive in most situations. Running all the siphon traits plus runes/sigils and food and vamp master adds up to be some nice HPS, don’t get me wrong I agree they need a major buff.
If the new healing skill has no ICD on its active then combining that with dagger #2 will be really cool.
I haven’t done much research on the signet but from what I hear, it sounds bad. I plan to give it a shot because I hate using food to make my mediocre healing slightly less mediocre.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I run a siphoning build but I don’t use either of those traits because of the horrible scaling. Instead I use dagger mastery and blood thirst and to make up for less heals I use spectral traits and skills to make my heals count for more (and to enter death shroud often). The build is 0 25 10 20 15 and it’s easily the best siphoning build I could scrounge together.
I personally think that Vampiric and Vampiric precision should be combined and moved into the master tier as a major and completely replaced with another minor.

(edited by Monoman.2068)
I personally use it in 1v1s to debilitate my opponents further when they are on their last legs and to make use of target the weak. I also will blow it in a small group fight to help take out a difficult opponent quickly such as another necromancer who had just used cc and so on.
It’s a very small risk reward, but I will often take it since a dead necromancer on the opponents side is far better than 180 extra power for 60 seconds.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I ran into a necro that I dubbed as the down state warrior a month or 2 ago. He wasn’t too good (or maybe that was his plan?!), but he still burned me down and killed me in my down state before I could kill him (since he got his downed 3 first). First and last time I’ve met someone who speccs for maximum down state damage lol.
That’s still one of the more embarrassing losses I’ve experienced in wvw.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I will probably use this then if the condition usage after this update doesn’t overwhelm me (I still got dagger 4 and staff 4). This might just be what my necro needs to have the sustainish play style I’ve been fighting with my gold for.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
This sounds extremely interesting. I will probably use this even if it doesn’t work out this way to fight fast hitting classes but will it work against rangers, mesmers, and minion masters?
Combining it’s active with life siphon at a point where your opponent can’t pressure you could also be cool.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
(edited by Monoman.2068)
Don’t attack them? I personally just let ah guardians feel bad by leaving them be since that’s the only way they will get any kills.
Sort of like staff mesmers before Traveller runes.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Sure as long as it’s a blood magic grand master. Last thing we need is conditionmancer’s (whose condition bursts has most thieves covering their groins) with good sustain.
I would love for sustain on the necromancer to get addressed but first anet has to figure out what they want to do with the class.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
The torch 5 really needs to remove conditions on pulse. I would personally love it to act like smite conditions and initially remove 2-3 conditions and deal more damage depending on how many conditions it removed.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Arenanet favors humans so this is simply an extension of that favoritism lol. This is definitely here to stay.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I saw cultural armor as a worthless waste of gold for lazy players like my friend who wish to look good with minimal effort. Now it’s even more worthless since you can get a flaming version for 800 gems, yet he is pleased lol.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Conditions are extremely nasty right now. I don’t mind fighting a condition warrior since they are limited to about 4 conditions not counting sigils and their animations, travel time, and effects allow for counter play outside of cleansing (confusion on interrupt, easily dodge able torment projectile sword, fire fields rather than projectiles, bleed applications in close range and so on). Cleansing against condition warriors is if you make a mistake, but against classes that can spam their conditions? it’s your bread and butter of the fight.
I just don’t think conditions were well thought out for the most part. Just the relationship between condition damage and the other stats speaks volumes for how horribly thought out conditions are.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Well the fact that there is only two heavy classes, I used my heavy classes on a norn and human, and finally the fact that char looks horrible in anything but heavy armor (in which they still look horrible) means I approve of this.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
