well of darkness > stun locking warriors (the hammer variant). Now the axe shield mace mace ones are slightly different…
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It does sort of suck. Even though I’m a spectral necro, I’ve often used spectral walk as a stun breaker if I ran into a cc heavy class and would use that sliver of DS to take a drop, now that’s not possible.
I really think speed of shadows should give you a 25% increased movement speed when you have full life force and should be moved up to the master tier. Then we might be able to do what we want with spectral walk.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Flesh wurm is ok. Definatly needed if your minion mancer and not a bad tech tool for other necromancers depending on the situation. However the thing that hurts it is its slow recharge time and the fact you need to summon it before a battle begins otherwise its a risky move to summon him.
Most times I would rather just use plague signet or well of power for a stunbreak but n the right situations the Wurm does shine. I once left him outside a Gate in WvW and he caused swords on it over 22 minutes before someone came to check and killed him. Funnies thing ever
Pretty much this. I absolutely love the flesh worm, but having to set it down preemptively doesn’t fair too well with me. If I didn’t put it down before a fight began, I’m better off not using it at all.
The skill would be a lot better if the worm would follow you when you are out of combat and pop out again once you are in combat. I don’t see it being much of a problem since you can’t choose where you will teleport to. They could even have an indicator on the necromancer so you know that the worm will pop out once he is attacked.

Yeah I’m having the same issue and it’s only been happening in the last few days and earlier in the week and last week it was a string of crashing. I’ve lost to many winning battles now lol.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Well looks like spectral walk just became that much more important for jumping off ledges and traiting into the DM line is now a thing of the past for me. I wish speed of shadows gave us a 25% movement increase based on our life force level or something, with the recent DS nerfs signet of locust is getting painful to carry.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’de run it on my necromancer if I could since it’s either that, a knockdown with a long cast time, or a I win button for powermancers. Although plague form easily has enough utility to out shine it, it’s a slightly better choice for solo roaming.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I wish necro’s got a hammer. I’m currently using the staff on my power build and it’s fairly underwhelming although it’s alright just before a fight boils over and for getaways. The whole “out of my face” nature of hammers would go extremely well with axe focus, but hammers are pushing it on a class like the necromancer.
I can see torches happening though.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Additionally, as you can see, insane damage isn’t exclusive to the warrior.
Man that man is cruel, he made a montage about 1 shotting up levels. I’ve seen it all.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Is it even worth taking scholar runes over ruby orbs? 84 precision and 2% extra critical damage (if you use another crit rune for the last slot) at the cost of 45 power seems more beneficial to me but I was also trying to make this set without spending too much money.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I play guardian because turning a defensive class into an offensive beast has given me some of the most fun in this game. It’s the only class where I can use mainly melee weapons and not get kited to oblivion.
Not to mention what mine can do to thieves should be censored.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
My necromancer wears white and I dislike the bit frost. Not to be sexist, but it’s a model for female characters through and through. I would personally prefer a legendary staff that’s not white, covered in rainbows, and has skittles rotating around it.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Ran into a mesmer using this bad boy today and he won a losing battle. I made sure to find him again while it was still on cooldown and he knew what was coming. He placed a thief in between me, him, and his base, and I was so bent on revenge and that thief must have saw the earlier fight since he let me run right past him. That mesmer high tailed it, but of course I caught him and proceeded to dance on his corpse.
I don’t see the problem with it before. It could turn a 1v2 into a 1v1+smart pet for 10 seconds etc and can even allow you to escape a losing battle in some cases. Now it’s just a gimmicky I win button for bad/lazy mesmers.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I honestly think plague form is a must for roaming. It can buy you the extra time you need to lose multiple foes with a spectral walk near a ledge (small hill or even a cliff). You can sit on those tricky opponents who just barely lost the fight and are attempting to down you and win in a downed battle. You can use it as you approach water and still be in it once you enter.
Lich form is like a “I win” button for a single fight and if you play smart, you will rarely need more than DS.
I would also ditch the well of suffering for spectral walk so you can build life force and cc heavy classes won’t ruin your day. You can also use it to reposition in a fight making life blasting down opponents that much easier. Above all it’s necromancers best escape option since small hills can become getaways and large cliffs can even become your opponent’s death.
As Zikory said you should look into getting some zerkers on that set.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’m sorry this war looks nothing like a war imo. Just two-three acidic blobs speeding around the map melting everything in sight only to collide and lag the map. There is no coordination, there is no strategy, and there is little meaning to being a part of such a mess. For starters I don’t even fear dying because I know I can be revived in 2-5 seconds (if my team is any good) of going down to begin the process all over again.

I’m still waiting for that anti-siege mastery to drop that siege damage.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
What they need to do is implement some actual bonuses that are going to do something to balance WvW. They need to make it so that if your server is outmanned that you get a 5% damage and health increase. Do I really think that would actually be enough? No. Maybe make it while you’re outmanned that you can carry double supplies and the second the outmanned buff drops your supply reverts to normal levels. One could also make it harder to take fight NPCs. One could increase siege damage. There are so many ideas, but the XP and Karma boosts are stupid.
There is absolutely no evidence that servers are going to start running with fewer numbers on purpose for the buff. Even if it was a 10% increase to damage and health it would not be significant enough to unstack a map. Keep in mind that the better the server is doing on a map, the more people that want to join in on the fund and will inevitably crash the buff.
I’m all for bonuses based on your servers wvw population, but I’de imagine this would be a nightmare for smaller scale battles. Maybe it will only apply in the area with the largest amount of people from that server?
Though this is a fix I can only see having an effect on the servers overlapping peak hours (unless it turns single individuals/small groups into gods to battle a zerg which I like).

Other than just going for the stomp twice if I have enough health, I’ve used dagger immobilize on the pet and even spectral walked away and ported back to buy time for a stomp. I have also life blasted a downed ranger to death and just feared his pet off to buy some extra time before.
To your second question, down state in a nut shell.

My only real choice is howler, especially with how my necromancer looks. Too bad I hate the necromancer warhorn skills so I gotta learn to love them before I can even think about attempting a legendary.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
A little background: I mostly play wvw with a level 80 condition regen ranger and there is nothing wrong with her, but I find the combination of attrition and pets to be too over the top. I’m not the greatest ranger for sure, so I’m not a fan of how much trouble opponents seem to have with me. I guess my biggest problem is pets, since I just sit back and ensure my opponents heals/damage counts for nothing while my pet nets my kill.
I’m also not a fan of the longbow and shortbow, but I won’t mind too much if a build involves the short bow.
I’m wondering if there are any good CQC ranger builds with pets filling a more supportive role?
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Wow here I thought I would get the full set but I’m short for the pauldrons. Guess I won’t be doing this patches content last minute like I usually do.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Video please. I don’t plan to make a thief but I would still like to see it.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
How do you lose to a thief on a necro? Necros melt thieves in 3 seconds, I don’t even play my necro anymore because of how easy it is.
My necro personally has little trouble with thieves and to beat the more problematic thieves, I just use my stun breaker.
Though on my guardian, the d/p ones will make me flip a table.
Thieves can be dealt with, but it would be nice to see what Anet was/is thinking about thieves.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
From what I can find, it seems to last 3 or so seconds which I would imagine isn’t very useful on a class like the necromancer. It also seems to proc when you are hit with only 10% health left which is more dangerous on a necromancer than on most other classes (since you have little damage mitigation to avoid the big guns). Although I could see it being slightly useful if you are attempting to reposition for another attack rather than attempting to flee.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Honestly just play like you’re a newly born lvl 80 and burst em when their pants are at their lowest point. In a small group setting thieves are a pain, but a single thief against any half decent group is a dead man.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I roll cavaliers accessories with zerkers armour and I’m traited like kin. Though I use a second dagger and spectral skills to stay in DS longer so more precision isn’t too much of an issue imo.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Yeah I’m having trouble finding it myself or codes to see if they’re worth the time.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Today while doing the aetherblade dungeon I noticed that I’ve never seen Ellen Kiel’s pauldrons before. My team says you can get them, but I’ve never seen them in gw2 armor gallery or in game before so I’m wondering if these pauldrons even exist?
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
When I play my Ele, I ALWAYS try to drag a fight into water if I can, whatever class I’m facing.
If the guy has any sense at all, he avoids it. You do NOT want to fight an Ele underwater.
Who chases an ele period? I honestly see them as that one class you are better off blowing off a cliff than actually attempting to fight. I even avoid them on my regen ranger and I don’t have much trouble against them.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I say “complete victory” because in WvW anything short of a 100% wipe is nearly pointless as well, with everyone being able quickly resurrect downed allies. So even if your well-coordinated 5-man group manages to kill 10 people in a 20-man zerg, you really didn’t stop them at all.
Agreed. Today I just came out of a 1v5 today (1 was my original opponent losing the fight, 3 or so was definitely glassy, 1 was up leveled, and the 4 late comers were terrible) and at one point I had 3 of my 5 opponents down and I couldn’t do anything. I had more than enough skills to put up a good fight against my last two opponents if the other two were dead, but instead I had to attempt to run with my remaining skills out of fear for the 3 that I downed getting back up with full skills to blow. I didn’t get far before they caught up and stomped me.
This pack mentality isn’t going anywhere as long the down state (and a few other issues) exists. The bigger and more compact the group is, the faster you can take out key targets without dedicating time to stomping. Just looking at a few of the offensive perks to stacking without looking at anything else explains it all.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
This is why people complain. About the best way to counter a thief is to make him think he has the advantage, and when he pushes, you turn on him. Low on initiative because he thought he had the advantage, and with the element of surprise on your side, not his, he will be easy to take down. When you think of stealth in this sense (how most good thieves think of stealth), you end up finding it incredibly easy to beat thieves.
This is pretty much the only way I can kill a thief reliably outside of a duel while on my guardian. When fighting your everyday thief, pretending you’re distracted, scared, or afk and retaliating when he’s going for the kill is more often than not, a win. If he caught on before I could burst him down, it’s normally at the point where I should be able to catch his fleeing attempts.
I’m glad this mindset stealthy bursty classes promotes is wide spread since this will work more often than not. Of course smarter thieves abuse this, but you can’t win em all.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
If GW2 comes out with an anti-stealth class simalar to the Reaver from Dark age of Camelot I’d roll one. I had some great times hunting stealthers in that game, even though I had multiple lvl50’s including an Infiltraitor & Hunter.
Guardian gets fairly close since I swear I can hear thieves hiss when their knives sink into an aegis like some shadow dwelling creature when you shine light on them.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I zealots defense with my crit guardian on thieves trying to close the distance (ofc only for scaring them away). Works well until you run into that one thief with 25 stacks of blood lust with the highest tier consumables being used, poking at you with their short bow and disengaging when you so much as look at them.
I also just slap down a symbol of wrath and beyblade in it for part 2 of a d/p thieves combo (if you survived part 1). I’ve yet to see a D/P thief not run into it, but lots normally escape.

I think the problem is that there is a down state in this game period.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
That or have a sea of rabbits just prancing about. I only use my necromancer for duels if I want a challenge independant of my opponents skill.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’m waiting for cavalier’s gear to be obtainable reliably in the game before I mess around with my necromancer. I just find that toughness to be far more attractive than a 100% crit chance with the changes to spectral abilities.
Plus it sounds way more hilarious putting out big numbers without being made of glass.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I’m sort of sad. Was looking forward to trying out a cavalier’s set with deathly perception, but to my surprise you have to live and breath fractals to maybe get 2 items for your profession.
Well the fact that I got something new to eventually try out is pretty nice.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
The closest I could ever get to roaming on my necromancer is hugging the cliffs on any map but eternal. Otherwise my guardian does a better job at roaming since she can fight off 1-2 somewhat decent opponents at the same time (though anything that can call itself a bunker will kitten on her day).
Sort of makes me wish Anet had more vertical areas on the wvw maps to give decreased fall damage traits and necromancers a proper place.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Just drop your necro till 6/25 or the next month or the month after that if the changes aren’t enough, that’s what I did. Instead of wasting more and more money on my necromancer, I used that money to finish a regen ranger and a warrior and the regen ranger was exactly how I wished a vamp necro would play (minus all the mobility and stealing health instead of self heals).
Now that I got my attrition class, I’m no longer waiting for Anet to buff siphoning and will instead wait for their 6/25 attempts at making a spectral necromancer more enticing. I don’t need it to be viable, but I need it to feel good, any further changes are icing on my undead cake.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
If this is true, the spectral changes are right up my alley even though they aren’t the siphoning changes I thought we would see.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Probably won’t be big enough to pick up my necro again, maybe in 3 months time.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
omg omg, the zerker thief is killing us !
but it’s not a problem if we also can 3-hit him(or 1 kill shot for 25k+ dmg)
this is not a severe lack of L2P here….no….never…
While I agree with you, it would take a horribad thief to be hit with a kill shot.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
you would be one of those guys who plays as a girl, you blew it man.
For good reason. The devs did a horrible job at making guys look good. I still struggle to this day to make a human necromancer look good without looking like he came out of orr.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I don’t know why but i’m disappointed in advance,
Déja vu…
Anyway i’m having a blast with my guardian and my mesmer, but the necro will always be my main class
Same here except I’m using a ranger instead of a mesmer. Really hoping they take a long hard look at the blood magic tree.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Hold your horses on makeing a necro till they actually start fixing stuff.
You will save yourself from a ton of frustration and repair bills.
This. My main is necromancer and I decided to shelve him because I spent way too much money/time on gear/traits just because siphoning sucked. Conditionmancer, MM, Well bombing, none of it clicked or it felt terribly clunky.
I haven’t heard anything about these changes, but if it’s looking at traits? I’ll be waiting.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It’s pretty fun (6-7/10), although the way skills chain together and the over the top cool downs and casting can hamper it. It doesn’t help that running into a class like a hammer warrior will make you start balding in your teens.
Though that’s what my other characters are for. I find that some days I can actually run amok on my necro while on others I just roll my guardian.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
The clunkiness of every weapon on the necromancer ever (does this even make sense?). They don’t need giant explosions and blinding flashes, but I wish these weapons felt like they were made with each other in mind.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
It would be cool if the boon removal portion of the skill was unblockable, while the damage and chill portion was. Would be too complicated, but it would be nice.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
My list is honestly just an extension of your 1 and a bit of your 2.
1. I love jumping off cliffs.
2. I love jumping off cliffs and living.
3. I love jumping off cliffs and having opponents following me.
4. I love jumping off a cliff and spectral walking behind an opponent who chose not to follow me and fear him off.
5. Corrupting boon machines.
These points probably don’t seem like they deserve their own points, but each one is very satisfying and it’s the only reliable fun I can squeeze out of necromancer.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger

(or 1 kill shot for 25k+ dmg)
