And has also been stated in numerous threads, ANET has a tendancy to do whatever they want…so keep them or junk them at your own risk, the vendor (or another one) may or may not come back.

What would it cost you, or any other player, for them to correct this?

Irrelevant. Policy is policy.

I’m not even getting into the rest of this. That is their policy, that is what they’re working with. It is their chosen direction. It doesn’t matter how easy or hard it would be. It doesn’t matter if it hurts or helps anyone. They made the decision and you don’t like it, but you don’t make their policy, so that really doesn’t matter.

Can you please point out this policy to me? I am confused by this statement that it is their policy. You mean their policy is to never give in to player demands? So they didn’t tone down the knights? They didn’t change the flame-kissed armor? They didnt roll-back the Karma jug change for an extra two weeks to allow people to use their Karma jugs? They didn’t Roll-back the switch of having to be WVW level 14 to get the gift of battle for an extra month when people complained? They didn’t not get rid of PVP levels because people complained?

Or is their policy to ignore player demands…like they did with the fractal reset, and Tequatl and the Tri-Wurm.

Or…and this might sound crazy…is their policy to listen to player demands, and when reasonable and easy to accomplish, they may or may not change things based entirely on their whim and not on any general policy that they have established with well documented and concise answers to these sorts of demands?

BTW, are they or are they not bringing back the cypher boxes? That was another one that seems to have followed their policy of not giving a straight answer to.

This is not a bash on ANET, but from what I have seen, they do not seem to follow any sort of policy regarding what they do or don’t change based on player complaints.

Okay, this whole debate is silly.

They provided currency to use at vendors up until the moment of the patch. They did not allow that currency to be spent. This is equity lost all over again….that equity being the currency that people could collect up until the patch.

No one is asking that the currency gathering be allowed back….just the ability to spend the currency that was earned.

It in no way hurts players who already spent their currency. It does not affect them in any way whatsoever.

It does not take development time away from the development of other patches, the feature release, etc….the code for the vendors was already written, it was in the game….activating or de-activating is simply a switch on a database…they could probably do it in about 10 minutes and suddenly the vendors would appear…they’ve done this with other things that have disappeared (at one point a character from a personal story disappeared with a patch…they said “oops, my mistake” and suddenly the charcter was back about 1/2 hour later).

So again, I ask the people that are arguing against it. Why do you feel the need to deny others the chance to spend the currency? In what way does this affect you or your gameplay at all? If this is a “slippery slope” of allowing people to spend currency earned in playing the game…where might that slope lead? Basically, why are you arguing against it since it doesn’t seem to really be a bad thing for anyone…but in fact would simply be a “nice thing to do.”

These people with the currency played the game, they earned the currency, they are not asking for anything for free…they just want to spend the currency that they earned from playing this game. ANET should always be brought to task about taking away earned equity in any form…nothing earned should ever be thrown away as worthless because someone missed a post on a forum.

Question about KasJory Romance [Spoiler-ish]

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

What I said is that it’d be interesting to use the fact that KasJory are lesbian and make people oppose their romance; ever heard of stories of forbidden love? “Othello”, “Romeo and Juliet”, like that. This way their story would become more realistic and less idealised.

People who encounter opposition to gay romance all the time in real life might not find it all that enchanting and romantic to encounter it in a fantasy world too.

I’m with this one….I like the fact that it is a “non-issue” in Tyria. I want it to stay that way. Its just simple in Tyria, you love someone, go ahead and be with them. That’s refreshing.

What about the people that were playing the content at the moment the patch was applied?

For instance, you were in Lion’s arch, finishing up the knights, had been playing there all morning when suddenly you get the warning “Patch in 10 minutes”.

“Oh crap” you think," I need to go open up all these bags and buy my rewards for playing this content that they provided to me! I’ll just run over to Lornars Pass and do that right now before my 10 minutes is up." You pick the waypoint at the Durman Priory and WHAM…you go to your desktop and start patching…

This is what a friend claimed happened to him…when he got back in the game he still had 500 bags to open and all the champ chests from the knights…but now couldn’t do anything with any of the currency.

This is why after an event ends, and after items stop dropping, you should keep your vendors around to let people to spend their earned currency.

Or, alternatively…they could have stopped the items from dropping for the 6 days after they announced the vendors were leaving, so that people were not still earning the currency for the event.

Either of these two things would have solved the problem. People would have spent their currency until there was no more currency to spend…and done. They wouldn’t have even had to make an announcement really, once the currency dried up people wouldn’t need the vendors anymore so they wouldn’t care that they were gone.

This would have also worked LORE-wise… you stopped finding heirlooms and personal belongings, because there were no more to find. The vendors collected the last of the remains and left.

Because looting is now a crime. Before this update you were able to loot lost heirlooms and found belongings then trade them for items of value. Now we are supposed to dislike the NPC looters for doing the same thing.

I was under the impression that the vendors were collecting the items to return to their families while compensating you for your efforts with items.

You are correct, but it’s a semantics issue. What you describe isn’t much different from looting. The player didn’t own the heirlooms or found belongings, they looted them. It’s true the player didn’t keep them for themselves, they traded them for goods (presumably back to the original owners, but we didn’t hand their belongings back to them, we charged for them just like a looter will do on the black market).

Interesting idea. Maybe the vendors were realy from the black market, and just keeping the most valuable stuff for themselves. And now that things are getting calmer after battle they are afraid that someone would look closer at their work, so they flee and hide away.

Now that would have been a fun way to in-game tell people they were leaving. Have the Lions-guard wandering around asking questions and saying “the minute We catch those vendors, we are shutting down their operation” With them getting closer and closer…they could have even been seen talking to the vendors on the last day telling them “by tomorrow, you guys will be locked up in prison for a long time.”

I love creative ways to tell game-development.

Only now I am being told to throw these items away rather than try and find their rightful owner? That makes even less sense from a lore perspective! The items are already collected. I’m not asking to do more looting, just return what I already have in my possession. Please ANET, let us give the lost possessions back to their rightful owners! (and if we get a little something back in return…bonus!)

;)

Truthfully I don’t have much left to turn in, but for the people that do, I think it is only right that ANET include these things with the new bladeshard vendor that is coming.

I’ve read they were leaving several times a day on every site I went to about GW2.

It is clearly Anets fault people didn’t take the time to read about these changes. The least they could have done was go to each persons house and fed the information to them with a spoon.

What is funny to me, all the people who claim to never have time to read the forums are the first groups of people to post on the forums when they screw up.

Please point these postings out to me? I missed them….since I can only find the single post in the "news and anouncements’ from 6 days ago.

Communication was the problem. Like I have said numerous times…this doesn’t really affect me one way or another, had they actually done a decent job of getting the message out there, I would be right there arguing with you instead of against you. I don’t think they did a good enough job of getting the communication out there.

And…bringing the merchants back is just a nice thing to do. It doesn’t affect anyone who used their currency already in any way whatsoever. It simply allows people who didn’t see the obscure communication a chance to use theirs. It is simply a nice thing for a company to do to their customers who played their content.

Once again, this is not granting anything to anyone who didn’t play the content….it is not bringing back the places to get the heirlooms or belongings…it is rewarding the players who played the content…but failed to read a notice.

next, when the beserker crit damage changes drop they will ask for them to be reverted because they didn’t know or if a.net decides to make say gossamer bolts cost 3 scraps instead of 2 they might wanna get it reverted because they have a ton of gossamer scraps but hadn’t gotten around to making them into bolts with the argument that it is unfair to them.

Or when they suddenly nerf Karma jugs and then don’t revert those when people complained about not seeing the announcements….oh…wait, they DID revert those for an extra two weeks because not enough people saw the announcements…

Vendors won’t be back. Sorry for your luck.

And there would be nothing fair about adding the vendors back aside from reinforcing the idea that it is okay to not pay attention to the game you are playing. What’s next? Asking for fireworks back in LA to get the Dragon Bash helms that dropped during a limited time? Wait we saw that too and it didn’t happen. “but..but…but.. I didn’t know.” Sorry, maybe next time you will pay attention and look into things that might affect your game.

Strawman meet JustTrogdor.7892

limited edition items for participating in events is not the same as gathered currency…and they did bring the helms back, you could get one in the most recent scarlet event as a drop after defeating the holograms….as well as many other limited edition items.

Again, in what way does bringing back the vendor for those people that are not on twitter, the forum, or reddit affect you or your account bound items in any way? Keep in mind that probably 99% of people would not have the 250 heirlooms to trade in for the halo or horns…they simply want to get some use for them after having gathered them for two weeks…so they would buy things like obsidian shards…or an orachalcum mining pick or something.

Yeah, the cyphers thing was a confusing mess. They said they would go away, they went away, people complained that they went away…they said they were coming back with the next patch….then the next patch came and they didn’t come back, then they said it would be the patch after that….then that patch came and nothing came back, then people assumed it would be this patch, but this patch didn’t bring them back either.

I could link all the dev posts about it but I am lazy today.

I do agree about the heirloom merchant though. They made a single post in the one forum about them going away 6 days ago. I missed it. I would not call this “repeated” statements as someone posted above…since “repeated” means more than one…and I have searched these forums…only to find it in a single place.

Look, you were given a window to spend heirlooms. It was advertised and promoted in the last week. Just because you were or were not thinking about what to spend them on does not matter. You didn’t spend them within that window, sorry you lose out.

“Advertised and promoted” would imply that they put it out there everywhere so that no one would miss it, rather than a single post in the “news and announcements” section of the forum. Had they placed it in the Login section of the game, I would have seen it. Had they done an in-game email, I would have seen it. Had they made an announcement in ALL of the relevant forums (such as this one and the living story one, and the general game one) I would have seen it. And had they done all of that advertising and promotion…I would be right there with you agreeing with you 100% But I feel that if I missed it….and I visit the forums at least once every other day, I read every announcement on the login screen (even about gem-store items), I read every in-game mail and actually talk to vendors and surrounding people…If I missed it…then there were a TON of people that never saw it at all.

I would not call what they did “Advertised and promoted”…..I would call it “Mentioned”. SO you cannot blame people for missing it and simply say “it was out there”

That reminds me of “hitchhikers guide to the galaxy” when they are destroying the earth to make a new transgalactic highway and the humans are saying “WTF??” and the aliens simply say…“Hey, the form was filed with the galactic central office, it was located, on display in subbasement 57 of the galactic central offices. but if I only check those….I would have also gotten rid of all of my blade shards….since they told me to keep those in a different forum.

And what if I don’t read the forums? Like I said, also speaking for several of my guildmates who are stuck with stacks of these as well….one played with me last night and planned on jumping on this morning to use his (just in case) (which truthfully I did also)…but missed out opportunity because this time, they patched early.

I would count this as “player error”. Just because you missed a confirmation from a Dev forum post, doesn’t mean the company should bend over backwards to assist you. Here’s another link you may want to bookmark in your browser:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/devtracker

I actually do read devtracker….however its easy to miss something in there when the devs are posting a LOT (for bugs etc)….because, I missed it there.

To all the people arguing against it…in what way does it hurt you to bring the vendor back for a week? Or to add it to the new “blade shards” vendor that is supposedly coming?

Just curious why some people are arguing so hard that ANET should not bring the vendors back….to be honest, it really doesn’t hurt me much…I probably missed out on like 8 obsidian shards from all the belongings I had….and I have 6 million karma I could spend on that….but I am arguing FOR it for the people that missed out. So I am curious why some people are arguing against it?

It’s not fair for those who do read Dev posts, and subsequently turn in all our trophies in a timely manner.

Because allowing DaFuzz to turn in his trophies somehow makes your obsidian shards or halo stop working? or does it take them from you? no wait? It means that there will be one more player running around with a halo for the next week that you won’t notice over the 1000’s of other players already in the game who don’t have them? I am still struggling how this affects your ACCOUNT bound items? It doesn’t de-value them in any way…you still have yours. Not to mention most people will stop using their halo’s in a week anyways since it is not a permanent head-slot item and only lasts an hour.

Also, from a lore standpoint…why would the vendor disappear AT ALL?! Would these lost belongings and heirlooms that quite obviously were for the citizens of LA that lost the them all of a sudden not be wanted by the people who owned them?

if the vendor was suddenly removed w/o a warning like the mistake that happened with karma boosters some time ago I would be inclined to agree with you but……

everyone had in one way or another at least one way of finding out about this change with ample time, forums was NOT the only avenue, twitter also posted and was linked to the original warning, so was reddit.

As someone else posted already, it wasn’t on twitter…I can’t speak of reddit since I don’t go there either…but that still leaves only ONE avenue…the forum….and only ONE avenue within the forum…“news and announcements”.

Like I said earlier….had they actually made an effort to get this out there to the public….had they posted it on all the relevant forums, posted it on facebook, twitter, reddit, as well as on the logon splash screen…I would agree with you. But a single post on a single forum that is not even linked on the main forums is not taking advantage of “every avenue” to get the information out there for their customers.

I’ve seen companies make much more of an effort (and still fail to reach their customers)….but at least they made much more of an effort than this.

Happy to have a break :)

They could have easily put in the March 4th patch notes: “The epic conclusion of the Scarlet saga which will bring about the end of Scarlet also will be the final chance to use your Heirlooms or found belongings! Make sure you use them up by March 18th when the vendors will suddenly no longer care about these poor peoples belongings that you found in your adventures within Lion’s arch. If you found something and the vendor is gone that means the people who lost them are obviously already dead and no longer looking for those Heirlooms or belongings. So use them before all the refuges that are looking for something has got their’s back!”

Oh, and why is sonder the seller trading stuff like candy corn?

Because you can still get candy corn and it is tradeable?

HMM? WHAT ABOUT THE FORTUNE SCRAPS THEN
edit: ACCOUNT BOUND, CANT BE GOTTEN ANYMORE FROM ANYWHERE.

Fortune scraps still drop from kite fortunes, if you have some left. Even though Kite Fortunes arent obtainable anymore, there was an incentive to not consume them all before their LS Event ended because they give you a random Boost.

Bag of scarlet alliance supplies still drop belongings if you have some left. They also might contain rare minis or perma quaggan tonics so it might be worth it to wait without opening them if you get lucky. If not for anything else, for saving inventory space.

Minis stack up to 250 in the collectible tab. If you want to save inventory space, just delete your heirlooms and belongings because they are worthless now.
You could have opened all your supply bags before the patch ended and listed your rare quaggan tonic at a higher price without loosing space to either bags or tonics.

I hope you understand now, why fortune scraps are still tradeable with Sonder and heirlooms are not.

Quaggan tonics do not stack and they do not have a bank tab. I also would not have wanted to list it at any price, i have no idea how high they could potentially rise. What if i sold it for 10g if it was 100g the day after?

So you want Anet to make extra NPCs everytime you cant decide on a price to sell your items for or running out of inventory space?

No thank you, extra tab for sonder the seller is enough.

But he only deals in items that still drop or for rare weapon skins, why should he want belongings that can only be traded for items that can still be aquired through other means and offer no exclusive items?

zaitaffy still drops>???

Okay here again is how I found myself not in the problem the OP and others have had.

“Hey a living story event. I’m getting drops unique to that story. I know the living story is every 2 weeks or so. Maybe I should keep an eye out to see what those living story items may or may not do before the event ends.”

It is GW2 living story player 101 to look into such things before the story ends.

This is precisely why…even though I have limited time these days…I constantly made an effort to check the “living story” forums…the ones that deal with the living story…because I figured if they were going to make an announcement about something in the “living story”, it would probably go in the “living story”…just like I typically go to "news and announements’ when the game is down, or say, if something else affecting the game as a whole happens….I don’t bother checking that for “living story” announcements….since other “living story” announcements were always made in the “living story” forums.

Its not our fault you did not have the means to travel between the stars to go and see it.”

yup, that would explain it, rarely if ever read that part unless something is “down”..

That’s your problem and mistake.

Maybe they need to standardize on their communication?

Yeah, like maybe putting things in the forum called, ‘News and Announcements’. Wait they did that.

Find me where they told people to keep their blade shards in “news and announcements” oh wait, they didn’t….which was my point. Maybe you need to read my post before getting snarky.

They didn’t tell people what to keep. They told people what to cash in before the end of the event. If that was so hard to figure out sorry for your luck. That is the source of this entire thread, someone saying, “but..but..but… I didn’t know.”

I cashed in all my heirlooms and am sitting on 12 or so stacks of blade shards because I read the news. I know how living story events go and don’t destroy things until I know they are worthless. It took me like 2 months of getting used to the living story to learn that. If it takes you longer, sorry for your luck.

You were lucky enough to read the forums. It is a well known fact that most players do not read the forums…and like I said, precedent was set from earlier living stories that you could still use the “found currency” long after the event ended…

I do the same as you…I keep the “found currency” until I know it is worthless….I didn’t see the announcement, therefore I did not know it would become worthless. Next time it could easily be you who misses this announcement (because maybe they will put it in the “living story” forum…or under “tickets for review”….or maybe they post it only on twitter? (I don’t check twitter, I dont’ do facebook…and since I had a baby a week and a half ago, I only visit the forum when I am bored at work…and as I said, 90% of my guild mates don’t check the forum at all, I am also speaking on behalf of them.)

it’s the same thing !
asking for the merchant to be brought back is the same as asking for the heirloom to be brought back why ?

it will give you the ability to turn them in so you can get the now rare selfless or thoughtless potion.

the only reason they removed it i to make the item prestige go up now introducing it again nullifies that prestige.

NOT the same thing at all.

So you would nullify someone elses effort of actually going around over the two weeks and collecting all of those, because they missed an announcement placed on a forum that they don’t go to….

Whats more effort? Going and collecting them to begin with? Or turning them in to a merchant? If they went through the effort of collecting them they should be able to turn them in….it’s silly to think otherwise. Reward the effort. It does not diminish your effort in any way.

And I don’t even have any heirlooms!

And as for the found belongings, there is nothing that was sold by that merchant that you cannot get everywhere else…its just a convenience to once again be able to get something for the effort that was put into the game collecting these.

everyone was racing and farming all over to try and get their heirlooms before the merchant was gone, now all of a sudden bringing it back because someone didn’t heed any warnings does nullify that effort.

I would be kittened if they did, and I assure you a lot of other people would be to !

Again, we are not asking for the Heirlooms to be brought back into the game…you are correct, people missed their chance to get those….which is the effort you are speaking of.

WE are asking for the heirloom MERCHANT to be brought back, to use the heirlooms and found belongings that we already ran around and gathered (mainly found belongings for me since I didn’t bother with heirlooms).

So in essence, we are asking that OUR effort not be wasted….you know…the effort to run around and collect these so that we could spend them at the merchant.

Especially since we were told to keep ONE of those (the blade shards)….although not in “news and announcements”. We were told to keep those here in this forum. I assumed if we should keep one, we should keep them all since I didn’t see the other announcement….since it was not placed HERE, under the event.

not to mention I can’t think of a single event where they took the merchants away immediately following the event, dragonbash, zepherytes, etc etc…all still have usable currency after the events ended. Heck you can still turn in tickets in southsun which no longer drop to the southsun merchant.

So the precedent was set that you would have time to still use anything gotten during the event long afterward…even after those things dried up.

Most players don’t bother with the forums. Those that do usually read something on them like once every several weeks. It’s not a reliable way to disseminate information.

it wasn’t just on forums mate.
twitter, facebook reddit every social media was pointing to the official post about the removal of the merchant, failing to read any of those there is also word of mouth, friends guildmates etc etc.

failing that, well I’m sorry but it’s your own fault.
asking for mine and everyone’s effort to be nullified because you failed to heed a warning is also NOT ok with me and it’s a bad idea.

I would really like to know what effort would be “nullified” by bringing back a vendor for a few days for other people to get rid of items that they stacked up in their inventory because they didn’t see that a vendor was leaving?

This would affect you exactly….wait for it…..zero. If you already spent your heirlooms and etc…it affects you zero.

You know, I just thought of something else someone has done with me before in a PUG. They talked to me in the begining and asked if at the end we could hold the final cut-scene so they could grab their low-level guy for leveling purposes.

I had no problem with that…and we did this for the guy. A lot of the time, its simply about talking…like if someone tells me in the beginning of a dungeon run that they have no clue what they are doing…I much prefer that to the guy who says he is a “pro” but then screws everything up making us all wipe several times.

I’ve had good PUG’s, I’ve had bad PUG’s, I have had PUG’s who were so bad we could not clear certain dungeon paths because they simply would not listen (I honestly think they may not have spoken English because no matter how many times I kept typing instructions, they never replied or did what I typed).

I PUG dungeons and Fractals almost exclusively since none of my friends enjoy doing them. If I notice the group I am with not doing well…or making huge mistakes, I will immediately stop the dungeon run and start explaining tactics to people….ask their builds…suggest new ones for them to try…basically attempt to get the “bad” players to not be bad.

I have friends who would be in the “bad player” category that have taken me months to convince to try different things. I actually went through and “mastered” several other classes so that I could in turn teach friends how to play their “mains”. Am I truly a master at those classes? Nope, not even close…but with one friend I was finally able to get him to triple his damage output with a few simple changes…and he was amazed at how much faster dungeon runs go now…and even regular PVE content….and I think the server as a whole is better for it.

Each individual you can teach…is one more individual that can help the whole.

How Can ANet Improve Average Player Skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I hate blanket statements like “People are stupid” or “People refuse to learn”.

I think the majority of players want to learn and want to get better at these events, the problem is that immediately after most of the events, tons of people suddenly jump into map chat calling everyone “fail” and “noobs” and “this server sux” rather than explaining what people did wrong in a nice non-accusatory manner.

We did the Knights once last night and failed, Myself and another guy afterward took the opportunity to explain everything that needed to be done the next time…and actually pumped people up for the next time around. On the next hour when the knights appeared, we succeeded. Were there still people getting pulled in each and every time the knights pulled…yes. Were there still people ignoring map chat and laying there dead rather than WP’ing back through the entire battle…yes. However, there were less than the first time around. On my knight, the first time around there were close to 15 people dead from the first minute of the battle to the end of the fight…the last fight this was reduced to only 5 laying dead.

You will never get rid of all the bad players, but I honestly believe that the majority WANT to succeed, they are just sick of people calling them noobs and then not explaining anything to them.

Currently, my server, Borlis Pass, is unable to kill even one of the Knights.

…so thanks, Anet, you once again…ruin an event by assuming every single server has the population and coordination to take down Legendary Boss mobs.

This also means I will not be able to get past 10/15, possibly even 12/15, on the ‘This Is My City!’ achievement.

…when will you learn.

I’m on Borlis Pass also and was very frustrated with our inability to get enough people to down the knights so this weekend I guested to Jade Quarry. I ended up in overflow 4 out of 5 times, but we succeeded in killing all the knights as well as holograms 5 out of 5 times. I learned getting into an overflow from a high-pop server was superiour to doing it in the main of Borlis Pass for this event. Too many people quit doing it on our server (or just farm Heirlooms and Champs).

On overflow, i heard getting in an overflow while guesting in a high traffic server can still be a better choice than host server’s LA instance. Anyway thank you everyone for the input.

I agree with this and Crystal. Guesting to a high pop server and getting into overflow seems to put you into overflows with other people who are guesting to that high pop server first…so you end up with a bunch of people who are actually hoping to do the content.

I failed on my server 10 out of 10 times last week, finally guested on the weekend.

Guested saturday / sunday to Jade Quarry, succeeded 5 out of 5 times, once in main, 4 times in overflow…and the overflows were actually easier than the main (main had a lot of AFK’ers sitting by red).

Got map complete on my thief and I have no idea where in Orr you think a thief may need ‘help’. Since there’s no heart quests, you can just run past stuff and anything difficult to kill can just be stealthed past.

I agree with the OP. I couldn’t play on tuesday, or wednesday (wife had a baby this last weekend and we were all still in the hospital) but having tried 10x and repeatedly failing thursday and friday on my own server (BP) because of too many people running around for heirlooms…(we couldn’t get more than 30 at any given knight). I finally guested to JQ on Saturday and Sunday…I ended up in overflow 4 out of 5 times, but succeeded on all 5 attempts since I think 90% of us were guesters from low pop servers trying to succeed (which meant everyone was TRYING).

I really hate guesting to do content…but feel like I have no choice…the only way I have seen the holo-fight was by guesting. My server never does Teq or the Wurm anymore so those are done. We still do Karka Queen every night, so I think the Karka Queen is kind of the sweet spot for how content should be scaled.

After trying unsuccessfully on my own server 10 times since the change, I finally guested to a high pop server over the weekend and succeeded 5 out of 5 times….4 of which were in over-flows and one on the main server (where some idiot was screaming about “leechers” making it impossible to win the fight and calling it a “fail attempt” when we still had 4 minutes to go…we DID succeed despite his negativity)

So, I think the high-pop servers should thank all of the “leechers” without whom you wouldn’t be succeeding on this fight either any more…

I had to laugh on one of my last attempts while guesting, I ended up in overflow…we won, we beat the holograms, and then when I left scarlet I ended up in the main server where the same guy from earlier was screaming about how they only beat 2 out of 3 because the leechers ruin everything….This leecher succeeded the last time he was on your main…(I even led green with my commander tag prepping prior to the battle with the commanders at red and blue to get numbers even…leading my holo after that.) ….maybe leechers are not your problem.

Communication Regarding Fractals Reset

Moshari.8570

Fractals used to be a challenge to me. You had to master many different Mechanics to simply get past 40 before they increased the AR that you could have with weapons /etc. I loved when we had a perfectly timed set of Guardian Heals (I played guardian for my main fractal runner)…it felt good. I loved doing 70+ fractals because it was an incredible experience. You had to work together as a group to do it. I only did them with a PUG because no one I knew was above 30 in fractal level, but when you do a 70+ with someone and succeed well, you form a bond with those people. I quickly became one of those people that fractal runners would call upon when they needed another person. I loved that. I loved that I could be doing something with my guild or just running around and I get the whisper : “Hey, doing a 72, wanna join?” or even a “doing daily 48, wanna come?”

I used to joke with my guildies that some of the best people I met in the game I met doing fractal 48+…it seemed like the jerks stayed down around the lower numbers…if you got above a 38 people really became decent, because you had to work together to get there.

The same mechanics “timed guardian heals…which since I was a guardian was the only mechanic I ever used” were used from 40-80…and it was awesome when we got it right. Occasionally, we failed…and then you had to time your jump into the maw and hit your heals again to succeed…but it was still awesome.

And someone mentioned 20-30 hours just lost getting from 30-50…with all the bugs we early fractal runners ran into (which completely halted progress), that was closer to 50-80 hours lost just to 50, not including levels above that.

At my full-time job, even 40 hours is about $1200 (after taxes and 401k and medical). That is what ANET took from me. That is why I simply want them to talk about it. My job doesnt give me a lot of time to put into the game…I play maybe 1-2 hours a night. I’m not some college or high school kid who can play all day every day and regain my levels in fractals over-night. I have a career, wife, and family that need my time. They took literally months of progression from me. Without saying a word about it.

Just as a throw-out for an idea that someone else posted better detail on, but I second:

I would love to see the Temple of Arah prior to it being sunk. There are parts of it that simply look stunning and I would absolutely love to see it in its splendor which I dont think has ever been shown in the game (either GW1 or GW2). We could defend it from the Charr invasion, until the head priest of Arah can invoke his final countdown.

Heck, we could play priests in it as it is sinking….having to run from the water that is rising to keep from drowning (utilizing Nike’s one-shot fractal idea).

I just simply love the idea of Fractals and that it can be so open-ended to show us parts of Tyria that we only heard of in legend.

How about a Giganticus Lupicus fractal?

The battle between the Charr and the Norn that caused the Charr to stop moving north (hint: they got their butts kicked by the Norn).

Convert players into Kodan and have a Fractal dealing with them being pushed south by the forces of Jormag

Convert players to Quaggan who are being forced out of their under-sea homes by the forces of Bubbles.

There could even be some “mystery” Fractals dealing with things that we have not heard about in Lore…that will slowly be revealed in the next Living Story!

How would people react to “One try” fractals – fractals with maybe a timer or other obvious fail condition, and if you do fail you are moved on to another fractal in the same ‘length tier’ (the failed fractal does not count towards getting three before doing a boss fractal).

So if there were a second tier “rising lave race” and the whole party gets swallowed by lava, instead of resetting the whole encounter, you roll for a new fractal from the tier 2 list (possibly getting the lava race again?).

These could be fairly tough but also fairly short for their tier – so that you’d feel an immediate desire to complete it since you’ve been given the opportunity.

I think it would over complicate something that doesn’t need it. Fractals work as they are and this would likely frustrate players needlessly.

Perhaps at the highest of tiers where challenge is more paramount it would be viable, but even then I’m not sure if this would be something fractals would benefit from.

I actually kind of like the idea. If you succeed at this “one try” fractal, you move on to the next one…if you fail, you re-roll on the same tier (second fractal, third fractal, boss). I think the advantage to these “one try” fractals is that they should be quick ones but difficult to master. If you succeed the advantage is you basically “skip” a fractal level by having this quick one-shot take the place of a longer one…if you fail, it is quick enough where you dont really feel like you lost a lot of time.

It could make for some interesting runs.

If you don’t want to duel, then don’t duel. Stop trying to take it away from people who may want it.

I could care less about dueling as long as I have the option to turn off any and all requests from people who want to duel me….if they add it, they better make it a toggle (allow duel, on / off). I also really worry about all the crap that will come into play regarding balance if the introduce it.

I still don’t see the point of it though…you can costume brawl, you can go to PvP, you can launch fireballs and etc at each other (for no damage) to your hearts content…so what’s the point?

CDI- Fractal Evolution

I look at Fractals as a means for the Dev team to play. They do not have to follow lore exactly, it doesn’t even really have to make sense. Fractals are kind of an open sandbox for the dev team and I think they should embrace that….make some truly cool and unique fractals.

Its all about replayability and fun with fractals.

Examples of some interesting things that could be done with fractals: (remember, you can get wild).

A falling fractal: You’re falling, dodge the floating islands on your way down or go splat. Make sure you have a ranged weapon equipped since you will need to shoot at wyverns and eagles that are swooping in at you. Final fight is against a dragon which you have to destroy before successfully landing yourself in a pool of water.

A timed lava fractal. You are taking constant damage since you are in a volcano, run like heck to the other side while dodging the falling rocks. Make sure you grab the healing spheres as you go (provided by Dessa to help) to keep your health up…defeat the destroyer on the other end for an achievement and an extra chest (difficult to do with the constant lava damage).

I’ve listed others before (utilizing zephyrite skills, low-gravity fractal, etc etc.)

Oh, and dont forget how shortly after fractured, they announced that PVP was losing Glory rewards and WvW was losing rankings and those people went completely nuts about losing “hard earned rewards or rankings” and several of us posted on their forums pointing out that “this is the slippery slope we were talking about with Fractal levels being taken”.

Of course then immediately ANET gave them all a response saying that PvP and WvW were getting compensation for their lost ranks in the form of chests and unique titles…which were things we had proposed for Fractal levels lost.

In my opinion I hated leveling my Mesmer, but love her now that she is level 80 and use her a lot in both PVE and WvW (I can’t speak about PvP).

I love my Elementalist in all things PVE but not so much in WvW….and she is a little weak in a lot of cases (although there is hope with the balance patch coming up).

I loved leveling my Necro, but haven’t played him much since he hit level 80…I found the condition spamming very lack-luster if you have another Necro around (a friend of mine plays necro for his main). My friend complains about his Necro in WvW a lot especially after a couple recent nerfs.
