Have you guys genuinely never seen something come out of a CDI? Have you truly never seen changes that were outlined, discussed, and honed in the forge of the CDI system?
On the contrary I’ve seen nothing but wonderful changes that came from the CDI’s. If I remember correctly EoTM, orb changes, matchup variety, and I think even seasons were all things players had been asking for since the game came out, but ultimately resulted from CDI, no? CDI’s do work so that’s why I’m curious to see if there will be a CDI for GvG!
Also thanks for the link Hvaran!

I’ve seen plenty of times where a coordinated group will run in with 15 people and wipe 40 man uncoordinated groups.
You forgot a word so I FTFY.
Show me a PPT guild that can pull that off, without siege of course.
(edited by MrFluffy.9307)
Playing WvW for PPT is just boring and pointless (no pun intended)… if you have the highest score at the end of the week, so what? Winning just meant you had more coverage then the other two servers. And contrary to popular belief, there is literally zero skill involved in the PPT game. And before the quoting begins, using all-call on teamspeak to “coordinate” a defense, aka blobbing, is not skillful unless you consider waypointing into a keep to use siege and press 1 “skilled”.
So why not just play for the fights? At least there you have a constantly changing meta involving group comps and tactics, and plenty of guilds to fight from (at least that’s how it used to be). And also the winning side is not always determined by numbers. I’ve seen plenty of times where a coordinated group will run in with 15 people and wipe 40 man groups.
I heard rumors we may be getting one… is this true??!
it feels like all the gvg guilds are leaving for different games, so my question is what guilds still do this??? Let’s make a list
ppt is pointless, as score is predominately determined by a server’s population throughout the day. Which means all those hours you spent scouting and tapping siege were completely pointless, I mean really… how is that fun to some people in the first place? I don’t get it.
Anyways fighting as a guild and testing yourself against the odds is some peoples endgame, just because their interests don’t align with yours doesn’t give you the right to complain. After all you are server mates and trust me, you’d much rather have a guild that occasionally takes up queue spots then to not even have that guild in the first place.
Over the past month or so the devs have been consistently posting in the WvW forums, this is something the community has been asking them to do for quite some time. It makes me think that WvW is finally getting the attention it needed, so I’d like to say thank you devs!

delete this pls, thank u
Traditionally WXP points have always been reset with the start of a new tournament. I don’t think this will be any different this time around.
Aye. World Ability Points will be reset at the start of the Fall Tournament.
how does one pronounce your last name?
I’d like to believe it would be Bow-Tiger xD
as a commander you need lots of stability, so running the balanced stance trait as well as a dolyak signet will do the trick.
0/0/6/6/2 is the trait set up I believe, with PVT and other tanky stats
So you just spent 15 minutes to build the trebuchet which could not.
The elevation, invisible walls, line of sight, arc of fire, blast radius all affect which siege abilities can hit which targets. One should also consider any counter measures when placing siege.
Instead of asking for a map, you should ask a more seasoned WvW player to show you good siege positions. In many cases it is a matter of a yard from edge of a cliff between good and bad siege placement.
Thats what I mean. Are there any Googlemaps for WVW with good siege locations detailed out by vet WvWers anywhere that I can look over?
I don’t think there are, but to be honest I don’t think you would need them. After playing around with siege a bit it’s pretty easy to get a feel for the range, etc.
the first step would be to remove arrow carts
why that, if you dont mind me asking.
they’re overpowered and can ruin a fun fight between clashing guilds. They’re also boring to use, I mean who enjoys pressing 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 over and over when instead you can test your PvP skills by actually joining the fight by running with your commander.
(edited by MrFluffy.9307)
the first step would be to remove arrow carts
how do i play tis game mod
(edited by MrFluffy.9307)
it’s a chance, meaning each time you spend supply you only have a percent chance of getting some supply back. There is no CD on the trait however
GS/staff guard with PVT/celest + soldier runes and 0/0/30/30/10 traits
also for utility use SYG, Hold the Line, and purging flames. Heal skill is optional but shelter is the best one imo, also elite should be support tome for heals.
Guard is one of the most important classes for WvW since they’re one of the few that can give AoE stability as well as face tank all the damage

EB – BP – AR was a good rivalry
so was the DH – IoJ – DR rivalry… IoJ would nightcap everything, DH would daycap everything, and DR would whine about it
arcing arrow is OP, if you use it directly below you the animation is short and the shot becomes hard to predict, also the scenario I just listed is how warriors always use it btw -_-
Unless they’re attacking a zerg you’ll never see a warrior use arcing arrow from range in a 1v1 lol
plz yes, just YES !!!!
bump bump bump bump bump
yeah, people exploited glitch where they are able to enter WvW when they are not supposed to, and when ANET fixed that glitch all those glitch exploiter cry foul.
ANET no need to refund anybody anything for this. Lockout warning was put in place weeks before the tournament. they do not have to refund for anyone’s ignorance.
regardless of whether we were warned or not this whole idea of suspending people from their favorite game mode for 2 weeks is complete bull kitten. I literally have not played the game since they implemented the block seeing as WvW was all that I did.
Also I transferred servers to join a specific GvG guild, not to bandwagon to a winning server (I would have transferred to blackgate months ago if that were the case…)
they will never reveal this info for obvious reasons – they’ll prove us right.
for people like me who waited for seasons to transfer (because kitten spending 2400 gems) and are now unable to participate in the one thing they do in this game I ask one thing.
ANET, PLZ LET US INTO THE OS ATLEAST SO WE CAN GvG AND DUEL!!
that is all….
now that Anet has given us account bound WXP what will be the “next big thing” we whine about on the forums for months to come?
SBI is having this issue too.
lemme guess – you’re from DB
In which case you should know that this is a SWISS-STYLE tournament, meaning that even if you do get put in gold you will be facing the consolation bracket most likely (the lower more fit servers for you to fight)
so I wouldn’t be too upset about being put in gold league

any builds that give low risk and high reward
as far as I know, there are no hard diminishing returns, what people are referring to are the points where sacrificing some stats stats for another stat becomes less profitable due to what you are giving up. as an example, stacking toughness past a certain point, dependent on class and build, can reduce your damage to the point that your damage output is to low to kill another player within a reasonable time frame. with precision, as your crit chance rises, especially if you have plentiful access to fury, it becomes less valuable than increased survivability. basically the diminishing returns you hear about are the points when stacking a stat can start to become less effective than using another stat, or even a liability.
so at which point will stacking toughness become less important than vitality?
at what point do you start getting diminishing returns on say…
- power
- toughness/armor
- precision
etc.
I’ve heard the term DR being thrown around alot and it made me curious as to what the DR actually was, also I’m not sure if this was the right place to post this ._.
i dont think you understand, i dont have a spare ascended to just transmute it to another one just for the skins sake
there has to be SOMETHING that actually benefits from cleric stats….
I’d recommend staff for guardian. The empower will do lots of heals as well as the 2 skill
just curious..like how much power would equal a 1% increase in damage?
I think there has been good discussion around the concepts of world pride and how the changes in EotM affect that. Let’s pivot to a different concept from EotM and how it could apply to WvW.
I’m curious what you all think about choke points as strategic ideas. I don’t think we’d ever want a map that was just a bunch of canyons, this isn’t Sparta or Thermopylae, but having areas that make it harder for large groups to get through if they are well-defended creates gameplay. Think of a tower that guards the only pass through a canyon, rather than bridges everywhere. Is that something that, in moderation, could provide for more varied and strategic gameplay?
For the purposes of the question, think in terms of building a new map from scratch, rather than retrofitting the current maps.
Personally I’m not a fan of choke points, they give the defender a HUGE advantage if they have Arrow Carts. I believe it would be beneficial to the game by making World vs World more fight-oriented, because even if my server is getting absolutely destroyed (the current Maguuma/Dragonbrand/SBI matchup would be a good example) we can still have fun by going out there and testing our skills against large enemy forces.
An idea I have is to add an objective in the center of the map that has no walls or gates (somewhat like camps) and when captured rewards your server a bonus in WXP. This objective would be on a flat surface where large scale fights could easily happen. The reason why I think this would be a good idea is because I honestly believe that score means nothing if nobody is having fun, fights are fun so create more opportunities for them! World vs World needs to be more appealing to the hard-core gamers, this is our end game after all. The first thing my guild does when we start our raids is we look for a map that has orange swords, and we’re just one of many that does that.
Try searching up Red Guard or Second Law videos on youtube and tell me that doesn’t look fun
+1
would read again
why are the server’s crashing?
this will only be useful IF
- it is ground targeted
- ~45 second CD or less
- works in a fashion similar to line of warding
I’ve yet to reach 80 on my guard, at the moment she’s not even level 25. But because I like to get all my gear bought, upgraded and ready to go for when an alt reaches 80 I’d like to know how this build sounds before I go throwing my money away.
Take a look at the link and tell me what you think. It will be primarily focused on WvW, mid to front-lining zergs and if feasible for roaming as well. I spend about 60% of my time flipping camps/sentry’s, tapping gates, killing yaks and scouting towers on my Ranger and I enjoy roaming more so than zerging. But I digress, a Guardian is great for group support and can hold their own solo as well.
So let me know what you think about this and whether it would be a good build or not.
what are you planning on using your guardian for? WvW, PvE, sPvP?
1. Ranger
2. Thief
3. Egineer
go to stormbluffe isle! we’re category 5 awesomeness
High skill cap classes are thief and engineer, maybe mesmer with the exception of PU builds that are cheesey face-rollish :P
For PvE elementalist is top I think but this is one of the few games where on the small scale side (fights no bigger then 5v5) every class is balanced and has a good role and each class can play that role, albeit some better then others at specific roles.
Hands down commanding is best when done on a guardian.
link build plz
i like playing fun builds haha!
it’s all about positioning, stay close to your zerg and away from the red circles.
Excellent idea!
After all why shouldn’t we get a little something extra for all the hard work we do when the PvE’ers who do no WvW whatsoever can enjoy the same bonuses for free?
rangers have got spirits, however as we know spirits are just OP in sPvP.
They clutter the area they are in and sponge up all the damage from enemies and support from allies (heals and buffs that you would rather go to the player, and NOT the spirits) and it promotes a passive play-style that allows a player to do nothing but sustain and spam his skills till the enemy drops. That’s no fun is it?
And in WvW you’d be laughed at just for bringing a ranger to start with, they are mediocre at best in every aspect of the game mode, be it:
scouting (thieves are better)
high AoE damage (eles and necros)
support (guardians and warriors, even engineers!)
But what about spirits?! In WvW spirits are WORTHLESS, they are extremely prone to AoE damage and die in a heartbeat.
So enough blabbering…here’s my idea
I’d like to propose getting rid of “spirits” all together, let’s remove them. And instead make the skills work as buffs (in the same way as venom share) this eliminates the clutter factor in sPvP and it fixes the problem of them dying too easily in WvW. Of course this being a major buff to spirits they’d have to be nerfed accordingly, so here’s an idea of what I was thinking.
First lower the effectiveness of the buff (traited would be 50% activate chance)
Second, give it a duration, Water Spirit for instance (call it Water Blessing or something) it lasts 30 seconds and for the full duration of the effect the character with that boon will have a 50% chance to heal on hit.
So there’s my idea..lemme know what you think!!
Im just returning to the game.
I never got into wvw, and I am trying now.I have a guardian with full exotic, a zerker set and a soldier set.
full zerker trinkets.I never found wvw rewarding enough, I am not sure what I can do to get more bags, and feel my time in there is worth it.
please help.
Skills, Gear, Weapon, and playtype would help me a lot.
Thanks.
traits: 0/0/30/30/10
weapons: staff/hammer
utility skills: Stand your Ground, Hold the Line, and 3rd one is optional (wall of reflection isn’t a bad choice)
armour: PVT mixed with cleric’s w/ soldier runes equipped
^standard zerg guardian build
Hammer trains are bad and simple to deal with. Roll through their pushes, kill backline, and then ruin the frontline. If the backline are silly enough to run with the frontline, force bombs on the edges of the frontline and watch as low sustain backliners die. Remember that a Hammer/Staff guardian has 0 leaps, so if you catch them in a bomb they’re in serious trouble. Literally every single hammer train dies in the exact same way. There’s also a difference between hammer train and balanced comp. A difference that the vast majority of players seem to misunderstand.
There’s a lot of posts misunderstanding the purpose of thieves, too. They’re a lot like necros in the sense that you focus backline when your group support isn’t necessary. As for what this support is, it typically consists of blast finishers in water fields and constant poison field coverage on regroups/down clumps. Venom share being more viable lately is a side bonus, although we haven’t tested it all that extensively.
Lot of people building their mesmers wrong, from what I can see thus far. I’ll give you a hint, there’s a LOT more that a mesmer brings to the table than veil, null, and time warp. Best examine their traits and weapon skills.
I would almost place backliners ahead of frontliners on the list. In the current meta, your backline needs to be absolutely rock-solid to succeed against the best guilds. The skill ceiling is also ridiculously high for those classes.
if the mesmer can manage to keep their clones up (which in a zerg setting is impossible) then it is possible for them to buff the zerg and do boon rip etc.
I’ve also seen some reflection builds work nicely but it’s nothing special.
