That is the exact reason that she’s being disabled. Frankly, given ANet’s reaction to the Snowflake Ecto exploiters, I’m surprised they aren’t also handing out bans to anyone who mass produced keys, given that they could be used to obtain the highly-valuable permanent Bank, TP, MF accesses and make hundreds of gold.

The main problem with this explanation is that buying keys with money is not an alternative to converting in-game stuff into keys. If you want to spend money and buy keys, you’ll buy keys. If you have in-game goods and want keys, you’ll find the cheapest rate and buy keys. you would never sit down and say “I want 10 keys, how will I go about buying them.” I am sure that everyone who has ever bought gems with money has not been in-game bankrupt and does have an alternative to real money when making gem purchases.
The only way this explanation would work is if Anet was disappointed people weren’t buying gems with gold as much since adding Lyns.

People will always find the cheapest route to something. If you don’t want everyone to use only one route, then make all routes the same cost. That’s what I liked best about GW2 when I started. ex: all of the same level and grade items have the same stats and only differ on their combination.

As other have said: I can understand removing the keys. But why the charades? It would of been 110% ok if you took out the recipe to make the commendations, announced Lyns will be leaving in a month, then took her out.
And why leave her there to tempt people with false advertising? That just makes it that much more messed up – letting people think she’ll be back.
I don’t know your plans for her inventory, but I sincerely hope she has something useful for large amounts of commendations. If not, at least add a mystic forge recipe to be a bit realistic with what will happen: 1,000 stacks of sturdy harvesting tools gives you an endless harvesting tool.

frame + 250 cogs + 250 wads + 250 stuffing = mini of the same name as the frame (Mystic Forge)
I’m pretty sure this recipe still works, but there are no ways to get any of the ingredients anymore. (wads and stuffing can be bought on the TP)
If you have less than 250 cogs, just destroy them (or wait until wintersday 2013, might be used again)

I take it back – looking at that picture, fully half the items available are below the visible field (look at the size of the slider bar), so half the items being offered are 3 tokens or less. 1 per day from completing the daily is looking much more plausible.

From what he said, some of your current achievement points will be retroactively converted. the ones that won’t are the infinite ones (like agent of entropy)
looking at that list, I doubt I’ll be buying unid dyes (look just below that – it says “Advanced Harvesting Sickle” – is this a BL Sickle + Sturdy Sickle?)
and Endless tonics: 20x as much as 10 unid dyes = 28g. pretty sure endless tonics are currently worth much more than that

That said, whenever they add another way to get something, the price of that something is going to go down, even if it’s not the best valued thing (it might be the only thing on that list that can even be sold)

yes it is. but it’s not a great exchange rate (about 50k karma → 1g)
buy exotic armor with karma in Cursed Shore (probably a variety, but that’s up to you)
drop then into the Mystic Forge
Sell what comes out of Mystic Forge
I did this 3 times (used 504k karma) and got 3 exotic armors, one worth about 1.5g, one worth 6g, one worth 3g
I highly recommend spending your karma on Obsidian Shards on the off-chance you’ll want a legendary several months from now. 10g is just not worth that time :P
After spending that 500k I did, I now have another 600k that I’ll be starting to collect legendary gifts with.

I just did Oglaf’s suggestion.
saved up about 100 drops (from dungeons), 4 gulps (wintersday JP), 3 flasks (wintersday JP), 50 jugs (dailies/monthly)
activated my guild’s +15% karma for 24 hours and a +5% karma banner, then used a +50% karma booster.
used all the karma potions and got about 500k karma in 2 minutes of furious clicking.
I have more karma boosters, otherwise I would of saved up longer
apparently there’s also Ice cream foods that add 5% karma for 30 min… oh well
I was surprised to find out that gulps and flasks gave less than jugs – the icon makes them look bigger

Raf, you’re right. perma 25%, Rampage as One is 33% for 20s with 120s cd

I have no idea what they were or what they used, but I was in WvW about to slaughter this guy with the help of 5 people, and he runs away. I had +25% movement speed, and he was easily 3x our speed and out of sight in like 10 seconds. It wasn’t ele’s ride the lightning (no lightning effect, and it was too far for that skill). No animation, just fast as puppy. Everyone with me was like “how’d he run so fast!?” My only guess was hacking – is that possible?

You could replace the loading screen with a gate traveling movie clip… same time but different than the standard screen (the one you see when going to any other area)
It could even be different depending on start/end locations.

hehe you and I have big differences in terms of “useful”.
I keep stocking up on both T stones, while my tools and kits get used up within a day of getting them.
either way, some use for the extras would be nice.

btw, there is a Mystic Forge recipe for extra boosters you have: exp booster + karma booster + mf booster + 4-slot leather bag = booster multipack (gives you an exp booster + karma booster + mf booster)

Also: Improved experience booster (plus 100% XP from enemies for 2 hours) = 5 experience boosts + 10 tiny totems + 10 piles of glittering dust + 1 philosophers stone

it’s hard to say if 100%mf helps, because when the rate of rares is like 5 every 30 dungeons, doubling that makes it 10 every 30 dungeons. and exotics are like 1 every 50 dungeons, so double is 2 every 50 :P just not common enough to notice an increase without long-term record keeping.

can you mystic forge 4 superior runes to get a random superior rune?

I most recently found an item with superior rune of divinity in fractals off a trash mob. still need to get a BL kit to salvage it… not going to risk using a mystic kit :P
They will only be in exotics.

I was lucky enough to get 6 of them for my pvp gear a couple months ago. I found the cheapest from the TP was to buy “of divinity” exotics off the TP then salvage them with BL kits. at the time, I got them for 4g each instead of the rune’s price of 5.5g. Then I was able to sell the ecto on top of that!

“ingot” does not have any size associated with it. neither does “coin”.

Anyways, it’s entirely possible to have 1g gold ingot (size of a drop of water) and 200g gold coins (size of a small coaster)

it sounds like that item is for only when you’re in the instance of that part of the story. like a costume to sneak past some pirates. If this is the case, you probably wouldn’t be able to use it elsewhere, and you auto-use it when you enter that instance.

I’ve also noticed that if the target changes direction and the shot missed, it sometimes appears as either ‘obstructed’ or ‘out of range’

I agree with Ethics: sell rares if they give you more than ecto price, salvage otherwise (keep in mind any sigils/runes in the item – they will increase your profit from salvaging). If it’s close, sell it (kits do cost ~1s each use)

Maybe I just found a really good niche, but I consider it “ehh” if it’s below 50% profit (after fees), unless it’s T6 (higher prices = more profit per sale. 200% profit on a 80c sale is going to take you a while to make much gold. It’s almost just not worth the time despite the profit, but I do it anyways :P) if it’s too close to the break-even point (less than 50%), it’s too likely it will drop into negative profit. I will still make them, just not nearly as much.
The last time I did a session of investing, I estimated something like these returns for the different items: 60%, 80%, 200%, 150%, 10%, 100%, 75%, 250%, 100%, -50%. and that was just one tier. It’s enticing to make thousands of the 100+% returns, but I’ve found that they are notoriously hard to sell. I’ve recognized there are several other people in my niche, and the higher the profit, the more likely people will invest in that item and undercut you.
I will note that unless I make less than 10 of each item, I rarely see the returns I estimated. It just takes too long to sell them before someone undercuts, forcing me to relist at a 5% loss for listing fee (and lower prices = less profit). the more items made, the lower the return is.
Also, more items crafted = longer before you see the full return. Last session was on sunday, I spent 70g on materials. I am only now back to the gold amount I had before that. (about half of the items haven’t sold yet).

Another strategy I’ll suggest: watch crafting material prices. maybe record them each day. If one has a significant drop in price, buy a lot of it. chances are it will rebound soon. but more likely (and what I do): look at the items crafted with it. Their price will likely not have dropped yet.
Example: if a material costs 1s and it takes 4 and makes an armor that sells for 5s (normally a small profit). if that material drops in price to 60c, it then costs 2s40c to make that item. If you’re quick to see this, you can keep selling that armor for 5s before others realize it’s cheap to make.

I made this list for myself and thought I should share it. It’s a list of where to get Orichalcum node tools and buy it with karma:

higher levels = more mobs = more trash mob loot
as far as loot from chests and daily, I think it doesn’t change at all.
except for availability of better stuff from daily. I hear that somewhere around level 40 you start getting an infused ring or skin from daily guaranteed.

Someone randomly sent me 2 superior sigil of blood last night I asked him why, we got to talking, he said it was a mistake, I offered them back, then sent them, then went on TP and bought 1 for myself
and that’s not even the first time someone I’ve never seen before has sent me free stuff :P Those things do happen.

I find it extremely strange that there is so much hate focused on MF armor, yet very little on people who wear sub-exotic armor. Comparing the stats of a masterwork to an exotic, there is a large gap. It makes me wonder why aren’t there more people hating on others who wear “pirateish” gear, a sure sign of armor below the level of exotics. It also makes me wonder whether magic find hate is more of a “monkey see, monkey do” syndrome, as I hardly encounter this kind of dislike towards on particular armor set ingame, but see it often on the forums.

less than 80 exotic does not mean lazy; it is a legitimate strategy. As Mirta said: it’s cheaper until you get your first choice item. It does decrease the effectiveness, but it’s not necessarily out of laziness. They will, in fact, get their first choice item for less gold than someone who went and bought exotic stuff first.
I did a bit of math, and I think that exotic mf is actually about as effective as masterwork pvp gear. I’ll buy some masterwork gear when I get home and come back with some numbers That would mean the cheapo strategy is as effective as the greedy strategy, and both are weaker than the elitist strategy

yeah, not all crafts and not all tiers and not all item types are good for this.
I’m not a tailor, so I have no first-hand knowledge of it.

This just happened to me! was mining ancient tree with ori axe, switch my ori mining pick for mithril mining pick, then I got ruined log. I didn’t notice if the pick was consumed but my game messages log looks like this:
You receive 2 Orichalcum Ore.
You receive 1 Ancient Mining Pick.
You receive 1 Ruined Log.
You received 1 Ruined Log.
You receive 1 Ancient Wood Log.

I got that last log because the tree stuck around for a 2nd chance of harvesting, though only 1 strike at it.

I’ve once had about 4 micro deaths within 2 seconds (against boss in volcano fractal). It was hard to tell the exact number due to notifications overriding earlier ones :P but I think there were that many screen flicker and dings
anyways, it sometimes happens to me where I can’t move after a shocking event (like stunned, downed, etc.), but if I let go of the movement key then press it again, it works. maybe this is the issue?

So, I’ve been having this theory, but first I’ll give a little background.
Some parties I’ve been in don’t function. Can’t get past a part of a dungeon, keep dying, etc.
Sometimes I’m able to spot the less skilled players (I happen to know someone who doesn’t use dodge at all), but sometimes that doesn’t explain our situation.
A lot of people complain that using mf gear destroys your effectiveness in a party. And it is true that mf gear is less effective than pvp gear.
But non-exotic gear is MUCH less effective than level 80 exotic gear.
I’ve been wondering if some parties are not effective because many members are using non-exotic gear. Either because they can’t afford higher or because they wanted to save money and rely on being in good groups.
But if 4 of those get together in one group….

Anyways, I wanted to do a quick poll to see if this might help explain this phenomenon: What proportion of the items you wear are exotic, ascended, or legendary? and what proportion are not?
(6 armor + 2 weapon + 2 ring + 2 accessory + 1 back + 1 amulet + 2 underwater = 16 items total)
You can give answers for each of your characters you regularly use

My response: 15/15 are exotic (I only use 1 underwater weapon)

why was I able to buy a bottle of elonian wine on the TP for 25s01c? sometimes people are just generous

about 6 of the 10 fractals have exploitable spots. nearly every dungeon has exploitable spots. I’ve gotten tired reporting them and no fixes.
I hate nearly all of these exploits. They are boring.
I also usually hate skipping mobs. They don’t drop loot if you skip them. I also hate mobs that never drop loot… but understand why this is the case sometimes.
Sometimes it seems the dev team’s fix to a known exploit is to make it harder to the point the exploit is needed O.o (I’m looking at you, cliffside hands)

fun story: Last time I did fractals it was with 2 fellow guild members and 2 PuG. we were on the jungle against mossman. the 2 PuG and 1 guild member immediately ran up the tree. I said that I was not going up there unless everyone else was (1 v boss does not work so well), the one said he’d stay down as well as it’s boring up there. Then the other guild mate came down and we fought the boss. part way through the battle, we look up and the 2 PuGers were dead and afk (on revive they just stood there).

The ideas I had:
-able to open a second TP window
-a ‘back’ and ‘forward’ button

It’s funny to use these on people that don’t know about them. “I found [Dusk] today, is it valuable?” / “[262,042 gold, 74 silver, 14 copper]”

I would expect crafting booster to increase how much exp you get from crafting (you get as much exp as your craft does). however, the craft also levels faster. so you still get the same levels out of maxing that craft. it would just require less materials to do = cheaper.

well, I confirmed I’m unable to select what’s already been posted in chat and the logs. still can’t get chat window larger than the last 15 posts or so.
Since this isn’t as easy as we want, may I suggest a smaller sample size for the drop rate of the individual possibilities? out of 1,000 bags you’d get a pretty good idea of how often 2 scraps of silk drop vs. 1 scrap of silk. Most of the things dropped are just 1 at a time. Then you can give the “how much of each can you expect” with the full 300,000 bags.

:) glad I could help. I guess the one thing I can add to it is that the final items crafted are not always the most profitable. sometimes the refined materials or crafting components are.

for Mystic, if the amounts are 44% for 0, 32% for 1, 16% for 2, 8% for 3, that’s 0.88 ecto/rare. maybe close?
for BLSK, I’d estimate the amounts to be closer to 25/25/25/25, making the average be 1.5 ecto/rare. 21/32/32/15 would give 1.41 ecto/rare.
we really should gather data and give everyone a definitive number on this.
If I could spend these commendations, I’d have enough kits to get a good first impression

I have never salvaged an exotic if it could be sold. even if it was guaranteed 3 ectos, that would still only be ~90s, whereas it’s likely the exotic can be sold for 1g+.
My current understanding is that exotics give 0-3 ecto (same as rares). have you gotten 4 or 5 ecto from an exotic in the last like 2 months? that would explain why I get such a high average from salvaging exotics, but I’m pretty sure it’s not possible

3 days ago I found 2 exotics in the same fractal run. one was unnamed from a chest, second was unnamed from random mob and had the famous “of divinity” in it’s name – and it was sellable on the TP! though a superior rune of divinity sells for more than that item… BL salvage kit
most profitable run I’ve ever done.
Embrace The Bold: I guess I’ve had good luck then. It seems every exotic I get from fotm that I salvage (always with a BL kit) I get 2-3 ectos from. not always, but the average is definitely MUCH high than rares.

Mystic kits are no longer cheaper than Master kits? aww puppy. Haven’t had to replace mine for a while, though. Ohhh, I do still have the leftover stones. Those will keep me tided over for a while.
My strategy is to use basic kits on any salvageable/white/blue/green I salvage (I only salvage things I can’t sell for less than 40c), Mystic kits (or Master) to salvage rares, BL kits to salvage exotics and things where I need the socket.
Does ecto drop vary with what kit you use? it does seem you get less from Mystic kits oppose to BL kits. If that’s the cast, then lower kits should give even lower rates. BL kits gave me about 1.4 ecto/rare, Mystic kits seem to be about 1 ecto/rare. I had lots of BL kits saved up, used them on rares :P now they’re gone and I miss them.

I was bankrupt once (down to 16s – I refused to invest the last bit so I could at leastdo a full repair if needed). I ran a couple dungeons, got 2g. bought 2g worth of selected crafting materials, made stuff out of them, sold it for 4g. bought 4g worth of selected crafting materials, made stuff, sold it for 8g. you get the pattern. It doesn’t keep going forever, as not enough people need that many crafted stuffs. Just pick a craft and compare cost to make something and how much you might get out of it. Some are better than others – I would guess the most popular would be the most profitable, but also the most competition. I suggest making everything that makes you a profit, making more of the ones with the most profit (it’s hard to sell 300 of one thing that gives you 200% profit, but easy to sell 50 of that, and 50 of 5 others each at 100% profit.) spreadsheets help a lot (I made one where I enter the cost of all the mats, it tells me how much it costs to make everything, I compare it to the TP and make the ones that are in the green)

I have to disagree on this. I make gold off the TP from crafting at every tier. I do T2-T5 the most. T1 and T6 just don’t have as high profit margin.

ok, long shot but here’s an option: expand chat to fill the screen (how big can you make it? I’ve heard of people doing this, but never able to do it myself). take a screen shot of every page. print them all out. put them all in a scanner that recognizes text and scan them. scanner can save it as text, which you can then copy/paste into excel. There might be a non-printer-to-scanner option (import picture, export text), but I don’t know about it.

with BLSK, I get about 1.4ish ecto per rare. You just got unlucky. you can get 0-3 ectos per lvl 68-80 rare. sometimes I have a string of good luck and get like 22 ectos from 10 rares

you can transmute legendary look onto another exotic’s stats. I’ve read it will retain the look, but say ‘Transmuted’ instead of ‘Legendary’. I read that this was a bug, but I haven’t heard if they fixed it or not.

When I say ‘excess’, I mean that my main character has 2 for pvp, 2 for mf. Then my first alt has the 2 she wants, and my second alt has the 2 she wants. Then I have about 3 soulbound (temporary ones my main character used) and 7 non-soulbound that I can’t do anything with aside from take up bank space.
If I could turn them into pristine relics, I could at least get my alts the exact rings they want rather than close enough. But pretty soon even that won’t be helpful.
