API Development is more for, well, API stuff. API bugs, how to use it, API suggestions. The API is used to get in-game data from outside the game (such as map tiles, event timers, item prices, etc.)

Karma Farming?

“I want to start farming to raise my karma up for winters day” – for me, I refill my karma during wintersday then spend it the rest of the year :P what consumes so much karma during wintersday?

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wrapped_Gift
giving these to orphans gets you gazzillions of karma.
costs like 1s + 504 karma each, gives 1500 karma back (but increased by all karma buffs, realistically able to get about +100%, so about 3000 karma back.
locations: http://dulfy.net/2015/12/16/gw2-donation-drive-orphan-locations-guide/
28 orphans daily x 30 days x 2500 karma = 2.1 million juicy karmaliciousness

How to get the vendor sell price?

IFAIK, there are no API results for things sold from merchants.
maybe there will be one in the future, Lawton would know better than I :P
until then, I created my own. They are available here:
http://gw2profits.com/json/v3?disciplines=Merchant
I didn’t include all items, only those that were used in other recipes and are not temporary (unless they are only available during those temporary times. ex: candy corn cob). If you needed it, sorry I didn’t include which merchant it’s available from.
hope that helps!

We NEED 30-40 Slot Bags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

so, are you prepared for the cost?
10 slots = 4s96c
12 slots = 14s80c (3x)
15 slots = 50s (3.4x)
18 slots = 2g (4x)
20 slots = 10g (5x)
following this pattern, we get:
22 slots = 60g (6x)
25 slots = 420g (7x)
28 slots = 3,360g (8x)
30 slots = 30,240g (9x)
32 slots = 302,400g (10x)
35 slots = 3,326,400g (11x)
38 slots = 39,916,800g (12x)
40 slots = 518,918,400g (13x)
seeing as the max gold it’s possible to have on one account is 200,000g, 40 slots and higher is out of the question
and that’s just for the rune of holding, for ONE bag, nevermind the materials (which would basically be insignificant in comparison)
I do think there should be ascended-quality 22-slot bags for ~100g and legendary-quality 25-slot bags for ~1000g, but anything more is ridiculous.

Black Lion Chest

Mystic.5934

I am more certain this is the wrong place for those feelings than I am of getting crappy returns from BL chests.
aside from that, I’ll inform you that you only get 2 items + 1 festive item when you are not getting a rare item out of a chest. basically, a chest will give you 1 festive item + 2 common items. then, if you got lucky enough to get an uncommon or rare item, you’ll get that in addition (as a 4th item). it’s a poor UI because it makes you feel like you’re getting less, but it’s really not so bad to get less junk (you do get less common drops, but you get the same number of uncommon/rare drops).

yeah, I know, I’m predicting that the price of all of them will go up eventually, being able to change stats just allows changing to the one who is currently selling the highest (I’m guessing at least 90% of players have no idea about the forge recipes, but, most players would at least look that item up on the wiki before buying it, so mehh)
it’s certainly a long shot investment.

Phospholuminescent Infusion 5000g?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

That’s true. Looks like there’s only one at 5000 for each for a total of 4. Those, however, made have been put there in hopes of a sale later when supply drops and prices rise as fewer ToT bags are opened. An investment later in other words, even if it takes months. That’s how many TP people make so much gold. They list high on items such as these vanity cosmetics and wait for the market to spike to that level.

Read my next post. It looks like they are there to (hopefully) catch the price spike as supply drops and prices rise. It’s a reasonable supposition. Chak egg sacs sell at 10k gold and Queen Bee sells at 2200 so it looks like one flipper is hoping it hits 5k.

As the lister of the 5000g infusions, I can tell you that this is what happened.
I expect these will eventually be worth that much (probably 6+ months), figured I might as well list them now in case someone REALLY wants a precision one and buys it.
Before I listed those, there were no buy orders or sell listings on them at all.

BL: bots and buying orders

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

sell orders doesn’t solve it. I see this all the time buying sell orders (I don’t buy sell orders all the time, but when I do, I often see this)
I believe it’s not a bot. my main reason is that it’s too fast. a bot would at the very least be limited by ping. be generous and call it 50ms to know it’s listing was sold, another 50ms to list a new thing = 1/10 of a second. these listings are reappearing instantly, at least less than 1 frame (call it 1/30 of a second for generosity). unless there is a bot on the same local network as the gw2 servers, it isn’t a bot.
plus, I see it with quantities above 1, on several listings. there might be a listing for 9, 7, 42, 1, 1, 30, 2, 48, 12, 20, 1, 5, etc. and I’ll try to buy 100. the 9, 42, 30, and part of the 48 will disapear, leaving 7, 1, 1, 2, 40, 12, 20, 1, 5. so I buy another 60, and the 7, 1, 40, and part of the 12 disapear, leaving 1, 2, 3, 20, 1, 5. these aren’t exactly what happens, but you get the point.
what I think is going on is a visual bug caused by efficiency. like, to be more efficient, the TP servers don’t relay everything to each other, so server A might know that there is something listed there but not how much or by whom (the actual data of the listing is stored on server, so it displays 1. when you go to buy it, it finds out from server B that even after the purchase there are still things listed there, but again, not how much, so it keeps 1 there.
either that or it’s selling us the same listing multiple times because the servers were bogged down and didn’t complete the transaction before refreshing the screen, letting us buy the same one many times in quick succession. but I doubt this is the case, usually it’s seconds before buying it a second time, and I’ve even bought as much as 38 in a row before it ran out.

API bank tap doesn't show properly

in API Development

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

my first guess is an off-by-one error.
something like: for(i=0;i<max;i++) instead of for(i=0;i<=max;i++)
but then I checked gw2efficiency for myself, and it’s only showing me the first 10 bank tabs I have (missing the last 4), so it’s not off by one.
I wrote my own script that would just output everything in the bank, and it’s only outputting the top 10 bank tabs.
checking https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/account/bank?access_token=[MyToken] shows that it ends after the first 10 tabs.
not sure how the same bug would produce 2 out of 3 tabs and 10 out of 14, but that’s what it looks like is happening.

recipes API [request]

in API Development

Mystic.5934

what I would like to see returned from the recipes api is the data_id of the recipe sheet that you learn that recipe from.
for example: https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/recipes/3327
this recipe makes “Pot of Artichoke Soup”
you learn this recipe by consuming “Recipe: Pot of Artichoke Soup”, data_id 9798
so you’d add to /recipes/3327 this text:

"learned_from_id":9798

OR
an alternative would be to add to the item’s api the recipe_id the item unlocks. so you’d add to /items/9798 the text:

"teaches_recipe_id":3327

edit: nevermind! it’s already there!

An Idea that would sell like HOT CAKES

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

perhaps we could buy from 1 ~ 4 or 5 for say 1K gems.

I assume you mean “(1 to (4 or 5)) for 1k gems, with no limit on how many you can buy” and not “1 for 1k gems, max 4 or 5”?
if so, this would be an alternative to storing crap in alts, and not a bad idea at all. but your presentation sucks. it’s more expensive than storing things in alts, but more convenient, which makes sense. basically a bank that you have to go to your home instance to access, and because it’s stored in your home, there’s no storage limit.
If these were added, I’d buy them… depending on the price. 1 tab of 30 slots should cost 400-500 gems. (bank costs 600 gems for 30 slots = 20/slot, character slot expansion costs 800 gems for 80 slots = 10/slot, this is between those in convenience = 15/slot -> 450 gems for 30 slots)

What's Missing from Material Storage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mystic.5934

definitely need adding:
- just these components: the dowels, metal-plated dowels, patches, filigrees, scribing kits, scribing paper. there are 6 of each, so 36 total. all of these have far more uses than your typical component (which usually have only 1 use), making it very likely you would make a bunch and need to store them.
- crystalline bottles
- milling basins
- tenebrous crystals
- shimmering crystals
- essences of luck
- +1 agony infusions (just the +1’s, the others you would only have because you’re going to use them)
- golden fractal relic
- doubloons
- chakk eggs
- reclaimed metal plates
- mystic forge stones
- blood ruby
- petrified wood
- legendary insights

maybe:
- philosopher’s stones
- mystic crystals
- bottles of elonian wine
- blade shard

current “materials” I’d suggest be removed:
- crafter’s backpack frame
- watchwork mechanism
- charged thorn
- charged fossil
- mystic curio
- shard of endeavor
- fulgurite
- cube of stabilized dark energy
- maybe sheet of ambrite and sheet of charged ambrite?
(these all seem like crafting components to me. and minor ones at that: you would never make 1, then hold onto it before using it, and only rarely would you even make more than 1. all of these have basically 1 use. I’d rather be able to store thick strings than all of these)

I like the box of chocolates
mostly because it makes my asura bigger than your human
but also because it wins me all the costume brawls
not in 1v1. in 1v1 it sucks. or even 1v5
but if there are 50 players closely packed (say, after mad king says), you can win a costume brawl about 3 times per attack:
skill 1 is a cleaving ranged attack in a line
skill 2 sometimes drops a Romantic Dinner that when used will use skill 1 in about 15 random directions over 5 seconds. you effectively get a giant spray that hits all players in front of you, often more than once. 50 players x (1-2 hits per player) = 75 hits = 3 wins. you can use this skill about 3-5 times before the dinner goes away
skill 3 is land mines that defend your Fancy Feast so others can’t use it

it’s all about how you define ‘best’

Mystic.5934

Law of large numbers definitely does not apply at 100k bags if there are drops that have around 1 in 100k or lower chance.
It would barely be enough to verify items with 1 in 10k chance

I usually look at how many dropped to determine significance:
1 dropped? drop rate is hella low, but can’t say how low just yet
5 dropped? the rate is somewhat established
10 dropped? not horrible, but not good
20 dropped? getting there
50 dropped? pretty good
100 dropped? this is fairly indicitive of the actual rate
1,000 dropped? we got this
300,000 dropped? this is the actual rate

the great thing about this system is that it doesn’t matter what the sample size is :P
however it does matter how many drop at once. this got me in trouble with the amalgamated gemstones that give 10; I presented it as 10x as compelling as it actually was (5000 instead of 500). so keep that in mind

I would say you’re unlucky but 100 000 bags is already bordering the law of large numbers

I always seem to be. Last time I opened ToT bags this happened with Mini Gwynefyrdd. wiki research says 4 in 324,067 so I assume these infusions are as rare if not rarer. so not getting one from only 100k isn’t the most unbelieveable thing to happen (I calculate it to be 29.1% chance of not getting one from 100k bags).

See also the same data presented on Reddit by colbymg (who, I am only just realizing, must be none other than our own Mystic.5934!).

hehe, that is indeed me. either that or I’m the most obvious plagiariser on the planet. but it has been funny to see it pop up elsewhere as an answer to questions or something.

100,000 Trick-or-Treat Bags 2016

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mystic.5934

I’ve opened 100,000 Trick-or-Treat Bags and recorded the results:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rBDap38cNQDWlbuNxRRHxTvstfeDfou9_dWJMsA-j2o/pubhtml
the total for each row is over on the right
note: the output is that total number I received, not how many times it was received
further note: one of the potential drops from ToT bags is 13 ToT bags… since they just get added to the stack I’m opening as I’m opening them, it’s hard to tell where the original ones end and the new ones begin. So, I’m just opening the ones that come out as well and including those results in the totals.

Noteable drops:
4 unopened endless bottle of batwing brew
16 Poly-luminescent Undulating Refractors
5 Gifts
58 exotic weapons
4 mini charles the hellfire skeleton

I also updated the drop rates over at GW2Profits Bag Tool
currently, looks like ToT bags are worth about 5s21c (when all outputs are sold, after tax)

on the far right, I also compare the drops to last year’s drop research.
in general, about 5% less this year (but more things are able to drop, so about equal value).
but some things are significantly different:
20% less T6 mats
60% less festive transom
23% less total exotic weapons
80% less mini devil dogs
50% more mini zuzu
22% less gifts
38% less total poly refractors

unfortunately, I didn’t get a large enough sample size to get good drop rates for a few of the items (endless potions, recipes, exotics, minis, gifts, refractors), so if anyone records their own drops, I’d love to add it into these.

what you can do is maintain your own copy of all the items, even if it’s just a directory of name -> id. could be done with a database, or files, or creating a big array in your code (then manually update it every patch).
be careful, some items have the same name as others

what to buy from gemstore?

if you’re going to get infinite tools, I recommend these:
watchwork pick (gives watchwork sprockets in addition ore)
consortium sickle (you can cancel the animation early, so you are able to gather faster)
focused solar axe (gives 4 logs per tree instead of 3)

if it were me, I’d go with one of these:
-living world season 2
-use gold to make more gold and wait for sales…..again
-more inventory space
imo, the others are too much “just there for a bit of convenience”, or not something you do on a whim (if you have friends who want to get together and make a guild, you’ll do that, you don’t start the guild then attract people. similarly, if you want to play a musical instrument, you get it and play, you don’t get the instrument then expect to play it sometimes)

MF : worst scam ever ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

Say an item drops with 1% chance, having 802% MF might increase that to 1.2% or 3.1% I dont know the math.

the math says 1% + 802% MF should become 9.02%
“+100% MF” should double it: 1% x (1+100/100) = 1% x (1+1) = 1% x (2) = 2%
so 802% MF: 1% x (1 + 802/100) = 1% x (1 + 8.02) = 1% x (9.02) = 9.02%

but MF doesn’t increase the chance of an item to drop, it increases the chance that the item that drops is fine, or masterwork, or rare, or exotic. so instead of 50% basic, 30% fine, 20% masterwork, 5% rare, 0.1% exotic, it would be something like 10% basic, 30% fine, 40% masterwork, 20% rare, 0.4% exotic. or something like that.

I’ve been told MF is capped at 300% and anything above that is useless. I’m confused now.

mf from luck is capped at 300, consuming more luck beyond that is useless. you can get account mf above 300 from achievement chests, and increase your total mf well above 300 using consumables and map bonuses. it’s supposed to work, but people rarely see a difference between 300 and 800 :P

I think Lawton is referring to my recipes:
http://www.gw2profits.com/json
we had a big discussion about it over here if you’re interested
As far as I know it has all of the forge’s guaranteed-output recipes (it’s missing things like “4 rares = 1 rare with chance of exotic”). It also has misc other recipes, like charging achievement items (very handy for the new legendaries) or buying items from vendors or promoting Evergreen Slivers. It does not have the recipes available from GW2 API, but you can get those easily enough.
You can refine the search and only get the recipes you want. That main page should explain all the options (and I change things occassionally, so check it for the latest version), if you’re just looking for all forge recipes, the link you want is probably this:
http://gw2profits.com/json/v3?disciplines=Mystic Forge
If you know of any recipes that are missing, I’d love to add them. a compiled recipe, text, even just a wiki link is all I need. I’ve steamlined the process pretty well so just knowing the recipe exists is my biggest hurdle – I add the new ones from patch notes within a couple days of release.

Switching Bags

The Bags don’t have to be empty, but they do need to have less occupied slots within than the Bag you wish to swap with.

At least, that’s the way other Bags work. I’ve not used a Fractal one.

not true.
what you said is true when you’re replacing an 18-slot with a 20-slot
but if you’re replacing a 20-slot with an 18-slot, it won’t work. it doesn’t even let you replace a 20-slot with an 18-slot if they are empty, you have to unequip it first:
the only way to replace them is to empty the 20-slot, unequip the 20-slot, equip the 18-slot, move all the items into the 18-slot.

Policy on the LFG Tool

lfg is clearly the wrong spot for this, but where are you supposed to go to sell things that aren’t on the TP?
most of these are guild decorations/treasury. to name a few: super cloud, trophies, boss body parts, shovels, pvp potion, TP merchant, essence of luck, mystic crystal, map-specific materials (airship oil, etc)
there are people that want to buy these, and people that want to sell them. people only use the lfg for these because there is nowhere else. where do you want these trades to happen?

Obtaining Gift of Battle

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

Battle is one of the easiest to attain. Takes a relative fixed amount of time (about 8 hours) and all of that can be done following a tag around.

I think this is my main problem with this method of obtaining. a fixed amount of time. regardless of what you do. if you got track credit from capturing camps or killing enemies, that would be better.
heck, it’d even be better if wvw were required for gift of exploration again, so you’d be able to work on both at the same time.

It can never hurt to reset your router, so where’s the problem ¯\(^.^)

hmmmm, let me try… your roommate is trying to do cpr to someone but needs to watch a youtube instruction video, and you resetting the router interrupts the playing and the person dies. happens more often than you’d think :P

how do you turn off ctrl-click target?

the problem is holding control also toggles enemy and neutral names (such as gathering nodes or items you need to pick up to complete events), so you’ll be holding it down to look for those, moving your vision around holding left-click, reposition your hand, end up targeting a random moa.

blue luck doesn't stack with pre-patch luck?

post-patch green stacks with old green, so I assume crafted would too. I’ll try when the servers start up again

that’s good to know, but can I recommend changing the error message when trying to log in? saying the likely cause is my router’s firewall settings is just silly!
