the only failures I have with blink are when it would of failed before (that’s another issue – fails on flat ground but succeeds when between floors), except now it doesn’t go on cooldown and I can try a location a pixel to the left. can still blink to higher platforms, up/down some stairs, etc.

uhhhh, I have no explanation. maybe I thought they were 1 laurel each? iuno.

after some googling, I know what I was thinking:
laurel vendor wasn’t the limit, it was unid yellow dyes. you can throw 4 in the forge and get a unid dye. at the time, they cost 35s to make (x4 = 1g40s). currently closer to 60s to make = 2g40s per unid dye.

What stops people to send 500 + plus several stacks of globs of ectoplasm for example to pay that way someone else for their precursor, thats currently worth more than 500G???

hehe, I think we found our go-to currency! I’m just remembering all the Diablo 2 days where you would buy expensive things with soj (Stone of Jordan rings).

they redesigned dyes almost a year ago (just by looking at spidy, I would say about April 16). used to be all dye unlocks were soulbound. They changed it to account-bound, and also gave everyone unid dyes for any duplicates they had unlocked (resulting in millions added to the market), and drastically reducing how many new unid dyes were added (because everyone needed far fewer). That vast surplus is only now starting to run out. I estimated back then that unid dyes would be worth ~1g each eventually (based on the laurel vender, because if it ever went above 1g, unid dyes would become the best watt to convert laurel to gold instead of T6 mats). Almost there.

2 suggestions:
1) have a default weekly limit of around 100g. then allow each player to adjust their own limit. when adjusted, it takes like 2 weeks to take affect. So the few people who would be affected by this 500g cap aren’t, and accept that they could lose x amount if hacked.
2) allow players unlimited gold sending to people who have been on their friend list (or same guild) for longer than 2 weeks.

when you submit the ticket, they’ll tell you if they can give you the other weight.
If they do, they’ll ask you to destroy the item you got and tell them what time you did that (I assume they have a log for that). Then they’ll mail you the replacement. Don’t destroy it until they tell you they can give you the other one. You have a reasonable chance of success, gl!

Unexpected Ecto

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

Just wanted to share, because it was unexpected:
I got a Topiary Knife (one of those account-bound exotics with stats that are higher than required level).
I opened it on a level 80 and got a level 65 Forsaken Topiary Knife
I just did some research: this dagger has 754 dmg. a normal level 66 exotic dagger has 727 dmg, and a normal level 70 exotic dagger has 781 dmg. Which puts the estimated normal level for the given dmg at around 68. stats also agree with this.
anyways, I have exactly zero use for this. I don’t use characters that use daggers, and I don’t create enough alts to need this, and when I do make an alt, I don’t re-equip them every 3 levels.
So I wanted to forge it and try to get a precursor (or, at worst, an exotic that could be sold)
except it can’t be forged.
but it could be salvaged in hopes of getting 3 mithril. It didn’t have a socket, and it’s level 65 so no ecto; no reason to use a master kit on it.
I used a CFSoM and didn’t get the mithril I was expecting, instead I got 1 ecto.
I expect this is because of the higher-than-normal stats, but it was surprising anyways.
hope you enjoyed that fun story

Mystic SK: 471 salvages = 234 GoDM (0.4968 each)
Black Lion SK: 346 salvages = 340 GoDM (0.983 each)
all items salvaged were level 68+ exotics. I also found out when I started to do this that level 67- exotics do NOT drop GoDM, or inscription/insignia.
more data to come soon

Very Questionable Gem Pricing For Keys

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

however to my surprise I got only two scraps

Sorry for your misfortune, but you really shouldn’t be surprised here.

but you need to rely on RNG to attain the weapon skins

You don’t. You could of sold those 800 gems for 82g and just buy the skin you want off the TP. If everyone could spend 82g and get the skin they want, plus other goodies, the skins wouldn’t be nearly so valuable.

Most people I know are not willing to gamble 20-30€ for a chance to get 1-2 weapon skin

There are plenty of people that are willing to buy these lottery tickets. That’s why Anet hasn’t changed the model. Some of the people even get mad that they didn’t win and come here to complain.

Personally, I think these sorts of lotteries (black lion keys) should be in games such as gw2, but not nearly as impactful. It should be much less common to participate in them, and much less advertised. I just prefer straight-forward trades to uncertainties.
That’s not to say I haven’t bought keys before :P I just value them differently than the gem store does, so I don’t buy them from there. I bought keys with captain’s commendations. I bought keys via key farming a few times. People have posted drop rates from keys. The value of a key they frequently conclude is somewhere around 3-5g per key.

personally, I saw no difference in camera operation pre-patch and post-patch (before changing options), and have never experienced anything close to what you describe. It’s only if you go into the options and fiddle do things change. I recommend you reset yours to default. I didn’t change much, but in case you’re curious, these are my camera settings:
rotation speed: middle
horizontal position: middle
vertical position: far left
collision sensitivity: almost far left (like 20%)
zoom sensitivity: far right
field of view: far right
checkboxes that are checked (all others unchecked):
Use Free Camera
Enable First-Person Camera
Adjust Camera to Character Height
I had camera shake enabled at first, but decided to turn it off for a smoother first-person experience.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Mystic.5934

Before you do fix it make a button to “only show stuff usable by your profession” like in the trading post. So it reduces clutter.

Interesting idea, Yumiko! I don’t know if there’s a plan for that sort of interface change, but as a player I can see where it would be useful.

and make it a permanent option. meaning, you talk to a vendor, and there is a checkbox for only showing profession-specific gear. if you check it, it will be checked for any vendor you visit. it’s really annoying when you have to set an option to how you want it every time you need it.

it’s a alternate reality where the hylek are already devastated from tequatl’s onslaught; perhaps, a vision of the future in the event I am unable to return to my time.
I try to ‘Join in Sparkfly Fen’ to get back to my team

Dragon's Gaze achievement mistake

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I started playing dragon ball knowing what the achievements were. after like 2 games I realized that one would take forever, so I focused on it every chance I could; went for all the kick powerups, kicked whenever they were in range, etc. I’ve won 30 games so far, completed every other DB achievement, and currently have 5/100 on this one.
Just focusing on it is not enough, you need someone on the other team to stand there attacking the wall constantly so that you can interrupt them.
I think that part of the problem is that every skill has like a 1/4s charge time and >3s cool down. so only 1/12 of the time are they actually susceptible to interrupt, then you have to be close enough, have this powerup, and not die.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

My opinion: most of the new dailies are too specific. “Defeat a world boss” would be good, but “Defeat the Svanir Shaman” is just silly. Odds are, you’ll have to wait 3 hours before you’re able to complete it, assuming you keep an eye on an outside source to be notified when it comes up.
the “Gather ore in Kryta”, for example, is decent. I’m just glad you didn’t make it “Gather ore in Queensdale”, or even “Gather ore in The Heartwoods in Queensdale” (which is how specific some of the other ones are).
My chance-of-doing-daily-completion dropped from about 90% to about 5% thanks for this specificity.
The WvW and most of PvP ones are pretty good

my workaround (Mac): minimize GW2, open System Preferences, Accessibility, Display, Cursor Size. Slide the bar to the right. I settled on about 2x normal size. It will make your computer’s cursor bigger, and that size will carry over into GW2. enjoy!
these steps are slightly different for different versions of Mac OSX, so if you can’t find it, try the search field in System Preferences for ‘cursor size’.

Zoomed in after boss

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

This has been in the game forever, but just in case someone thought it was a feature and didn’t bring it up, I’ll report it for what it is; a bug:
During some boss fights the zoom is messed with. Sometimes it auto-zooms out, usually auto-zooms in. Either way, after the fight, the zoom stays how it was adulterated. This also can happen when you are downed (most often happens when downed during a boss fight).
I usually will have the zoom as far out as it will go, so I can see everything that’s going on with a fight. As an example, I was just at a Tequatl battle. When I left the battle, the zoom was as far in as it’ll go (so my toon’s head was filling half the screen). I then had to zoom out again.
It would be wonderful if this was fixed to either of these options:
1) don’t mess with people’s zoom. Maybe change the limits that they can zoom (such as when fighting lupi), but let them actually change it if they want.
2) when the person leaves the boss fight, change their zoom back to how they had it before it was messed with.

I know from experience that not everyone even knows you are able to zoom in/out. So if you are changing their zoom for them, they wouldn’t even know they could change it back. Then there are the countless times I’ve had to fix it just because the game messed with it. We aren’t watching a movie, we don’t need to be told when to do close-ups for visual effects.
I want a better gaming experience, and I hope you agree this would be a step towards that.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I’ve seen Gaile reply to the topic of auto clickers, that they’ve never been allowed and never will be.

True, it’s a gamble.

That’s not what she said.
“We have never approved the use of auto-clickers. The policy linked by Ic makes it clear, specifically clear.”
Ic’s linked policy: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post1532762

Personally, I read that response as “we have never said you can use them, [but we have also not said you can’t]”.
Also, that policy is not clear at all, as OP brings up. I believe this is intentional, so it leaves them open to this scenario: “well, in 99% of cases a repeating clicker is fine, but that last 1% of the time where someone abuses it in ways we can’t predict we reserve the right to ban them” (such as placing 4 million buy orders on the TP)
Why they can’t just say that… either I’m wrong or it’s some corporate privacy conspiracy that I will never understand but have to acknowledge exists.

[Suggestion] Put precursors in the gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I agree with OP, precursors could be sold from the gem store.
I expect the price to be somewhere around 10,000 gems. (and every now and then they could have a 10% off sale)
did you really think they would make it easier to buy with $$ than with gold?

LMAO 10,000 gems? That doesn’t make any sense. That would make gem store precursors more expensive then simply getting gems, converting them to gold and then buying the precursor from the TP.

8,000 gems would make more sense. That would make the gemstore precursors a little cheaper than the TP precursors, but not by a lot.

:) I’m glad the point was not missed.
Why would you expect it to be cheaper if you pay to win instead of play to win? Look at everything else they sell that you could get in-game. 600 gems for a exotic weapon? why would you pay that instead of buying one for 2g? even BL tickets; you get 2 tickets every ~50 keys, so which would you rather spend to get one of those skins: 2100 gems or 80g?

The only trouble with the suggestion is that the amount of gems would have to be dynamic, so it could be increased or decreased as the maximum-priced-precursor changes.

What you define as a pattern is arbitrary. The numbers don’t care. In the grand scheme, 0123456789 is as random as 9999091250

but 8888182341 is humanly-similar to 9999091250, among millions of other combinations. 0123456789 is only similar to about 1000 or so.
humans have a hard time distinguishing between ‘random’ and ‘evenly distributed’. because they see an evenly distributed string and instantly identify it as that category, then see a non-evenly distributed string and categorize it as that, and there are millions of times more non-evenly distributed strings than evenly-distributed ones.

‘0123456789’ is not random (there’s roughly a 1,000 in 10,000,000,000 chance to produce a string that is close to as clean as this)
‘9999091250’ is much more similar to what a ‘random’ number would look like (roughly a 5,000,000,000 in 10,000,000,000 chance to produce something you would identify as most similar to this)
the other 5 billion are somewhere in between.

“Report / Selling Gold” isn’t really the same thing.
“Report / Scamming” – I don’t want to find out if they are scamming, and even if they weren’t, they have no place under “Open World Content” (which they only use because it’s the default)
or does it fall under “Report / Spamming”?

Potential solutions:
add a “Report / Annoying Trading”
or add a Trading section to the LFG tool (going off Anet’s opinion on p2p trades, I would guess this will probably not be the best solution)

Upgarde Extractor price is too high

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

Gem Shop prices are based on the 80 gems for $1. Exchange bought gem price is never considered when pricing an item.

As soon as you try to use that argument, you’ve failed. Now if you want to say $3.13 is way too much for a single use item, I agree.

sorry, no one is using that specific argument. the argument being used is: if you took those 250 gems and turned them into gold, you could buy 3-10 of whatever you would want to extract (instead of just getting 1 from extracting it)
so even if you buy gems with RL $, you’re still recommended not to use it. (unless you’re removing expensive infusions)

Upgarde Extractor price is too high

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

This item price is 250 gems. I can exchange 28-30 gold for 250 gems. Or, if I’m buying gems directly, I can sell my 250 gems for 48-50 gold. (All just checked in current exchange values)

you have that backwards. current prices:
45g -> 250 gems
250 gems -> 30g

which means that, for the price of an upgrade extractor, you could convert those gems to gold and buy about 4+ of whatever you wanted to extract.
UE is not intended as a way to recoup your cost. It’s intended as a way to recoup your update item. We demanded a way to recover upgrades now that Tstones were removed, and they gave us something that could never be exploited.
Use them for high-value infusions and generosity sigils and nothing else.
I can’t even say I’d change much about them if I could. You don’t really want people buying 1g UEs, because then the price of every expensive rune and sigil would be 1g as they’d never be removed from the game. The only reasonable alternative would be that anything extracted would be account-bound. I’d probably prefer that option, but only just barely.

So if they were intended for high level infusion, then why are high level infusions basically pointless?

min/maxing. if you had +14 infusions, you would only need 5 to get 70AR (instead of 14 x +5’s), leaving all the other infusion slots open to get stat/wvw bonus infusions. that’s 45 extra stats and 9% extra dmg or dmg reduction from wvw guards.

Since when are instrument macros allowed?

A dev post a few months ago explicitly said it was ok.

they said macros are ok so long as it’s “1 click = 1 action”. what’s an instrument macro and why does “1 click = 1 action” mean that?
They also gave a couple examples of big no-no’s: nothing where 1 click = weapon skill 1 & 2. also can’t have a macro that opens bags while you’re battling. that last one… I can’t really see anything calling that a ‘macro’; more of a ‘bot’, but w/e.
they said nothing about having a macro that just opens bags.

I’ll have to check CPU usage when I get home.

Here is the CPU usage and per Thread overall usage while I was in WvW a while back using Process Explorer. Note the CPU % on the thread list is overall and since I’m on a quadcore no thread can go over 25%.

interesting. why so many gw2.exe instances? it looks like gw2 is using 55.78% total, or 2.23 cores.
I know my computer reads out cpu usage as a per-core amount. The most I’ve seen is two Toasts, each encoding a dvd movie at ~1100% combined (6 cores + hyperthreading)
