Mystic.5934

A little OT, but what to use Karma for anyway, I have 300.000 and dont know what to spend it on

making a legendary takes about 1,000,000 karma
a lot of crafting recipes call for karma-bought, especially cooking
buying recipes to make ascended items takes karma, as well as crafting the items
a full set of exotic temple armor is 252k karma
some other item skins can only be bought with karma

2) a long time ago, mac used to have right-click be a double-click. it’s still an option in the system preferences. another option it has is to have middle click be double-click. If windows’ Mouse Keys (where pressing a key causes a mouse click, and holding down the key causes many mouse clicks) are ok because they come with the system, then so would mac’s double-click.

I’m not saying either is allowed, just saying I don’t see the difference.

they are notorious about lack of clarification on this, and I’m sure it’s intential. my take on it is that as long as you dont abuse the skritt out of smudged lines or give yourself an advantage, it’s fine.

Basic kit on rares? Are you crazy? At the very least you are throwing away 3 out of every 5 sigils or runes which you can get after taxes and fees a bit over 3 silver each on average (placing bids) because you want to save 60 copper. Also isn’t the ecto recovery rate different for lower end kits? I know BL kits are better than master/mystic/silver-fed I’ve always assumed lower tier kits get worse. We are talking 30 silver for those.

I’ve actually found that just the presence of a major sigil or rune is good enough to merit using a master kit instead of anything below it. nevermind ecto, just that value is enough. math:
journeyman: 60% of 4s = 2s40c
master: 80% of 4s = 3s20c (so master gives 80c more but only costs 61c
I’ve used masters on non-rares because of this.
crude is usually best for all minor runes and sigil-bearing items, but the difference between that and CFSoM/Basic is so small that the added convenience of those makes them a better choice (it’s like 0.3c different)

what I do:
salvage all white / blue / green items and salvageable materials with CFSoM or Crude or Basic
salvage all rares with SFSoM or Master (except greatsword – sell rare greatswords on the TP. maybe also staff and dagger? if it sells for more than the price of an ecto, it’s better to sell than salvage)
check TP price of exotics, if >12g, sell, if 7-12g, check if it would give high value things then likely salvage with BLSK, if <7g, check if it would give decent value things then likely salvage with SFSoM or Master
if an exotic can’t be salvaged or TP’ed, save it and throw it in the forge with others once you save enough (if it can’t be forged, maybe give it to a alt to use? or sell to merchant for 3s? maybe delete? iuno, you pick!)
throw any major runes and sigils into the forge, sell any superiors that come out

see my sig for other suggestions

Planned refund of Candy Corn Gobbler

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

The problem isn’t the boosts (at least the ones that actually exist) from the gemstore. It’s the boosts that the Candycorn Gobbler spits out are now of a much shorter duration. Seven minutes is just enough to interfere with actually playing the game.

due to the cooldown on the gobbler, I’d say 7 minutes is just enough time until you get another boost if you are using it continuously. that’st my biggest gripe with it. it takes you an hour just to get an day’s worth of boost.

It was only 300 gems and you have got value way over 5000gems+ from it with the broken buff it give to WXP,have like 6days of Wxp on my WvW guardian it was that broken.

you paid candy corn for the buffs. you didn’t pay 300 gems for 6 days of wxp. you paid 300 gems for the ability to turn candy corn into buffs. 6 days for a buff takes upwards of 5,000 candy corn.
I imagine they nerfed it because they completely overestimated how much candy corn they threw into those ToT bags, thus the market is still flooded almost a year later.

Black Lion Keys. Are they worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mystic.5934

keys are worth around 2-4g each. that’s not counting things like boosters and bank tellers. so depending how much value you place on the account-bound things you get… you would have to place a LOT of value on those to make them worth it.

True, true.

On top of that consideration, using your numbers as a base, people who sell the weapon skins undervalue those items. If the keys are worth ~3 gold each and you get a ticket after 30 keys then you would need to sell the skin at 90 gold just to break even. While putting a value on the boosters and merchants does reduce this break even point, imo people who get the new skins then immediately sell at the current lowest price are doing themselves a disservice if they are buying keys to sell skins for gold.

that number is actually taking the sale of skins into account. the drop rates for the really expensive things is so low that bl weapons is the largest part of the value.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2dbbbe/1000_black_lion_keys/
there are more than a few postings where people opened 1000+ chests.
if a bl skin set is highly desirable, that makes keys worth more.

Oooooh, so this is like a sale event? They go from 5 Tickets on sale to 3… I see now. That’s actually pretty clever. By all means, carry on then.

more like, they went from unpurchasable to 3 tickets. I assume for a limited time. a bit ago they removed many BL weapon sets from being sold, this was one of those. I pitty anyone who owned these before they re-released them, they went from being worth 2000g to 200g.

They’ll go back up once they’re removed again. This is the chance players take when listing a skin for thousands of gold- and surely if they’re selling/flipping these skins they’re probably aware that Anet brings back the skins from time to time. So don’t pity them

oh, I’m betting on this I was already buying them for 200g within minutes of the patch. they are currently closer to 300g.

aetherblade path /in fotm/, not the TA dungeon. you used to be able to go into fotm at any level and it would uplevel you to 80. I think that’s no longer the case… uh, just tried it on a level 5 (was level 2 a few minutes ago :P) and it worked perfectly. let me in there, upleveled to 80. would likely get tiny bags if we got the aetherblade path.

a level 2 killing aetherblades in the middle of eotm can give tiny bags of booty
one of the problems is that you can’t, you know’, kill them :P then there’s the limited time and the reluctance of any eotm commander to go near them.
they are all vets and take about as long as that legendary giant takes to defeat. It’s also really hard to get kill credit.

bandits drop pinched
pirates drop booty
ohhhhh. aetherblades also drop booty.
just based on how slow the market for these bags are, I’m assuming you don’t just find them in the open world, it’s a highly unusual situation.
like what happened with small bag of skritt shinies, where the only way to get them was to take a level 16-25 character to the top-left corner of wvw borderlands and farm the skritt there.
there are no pirates in wvw as far as I know. ohhh! but there are aetherblades in eotm. all those people that fast-level their characters. that’s one possible source. I’m gonna test it now

Unsalvageable armors

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

If wvw armor was salvagable then it would be free gold for eveyone i think that is a good choice arenanet made making them nonsalvagable

buying and selling rams would still be more profitable than buying and salvaging badge items.
flame ram: 6 badges ->2s (33c each)
exotic armor: 86s + 130 badges -> 1.25 ecto + 0.42 insignia -> ~48s (37c each)
rare weapon: 1g + 132 badges -> 0.9 ecto -> -64s (-50c each)
edit: uhhhh, there was a cheaper armor than I thought at first :P that actually would be a better rate, at least until another wvw tournament happens and rams double in price.

my guess for why you can’t salvage karma or badge items is that they initially thought it wouldn’t be a good idea, and never had enough reason to change it.
I would guess that it’s better economics to not have too much ability to exchange currencies with each other. Similar to how you can’t turn geodes and crests directly into gold (you can turn them into other things that turn into gold, but it’s not increasing the gold supply – only the intermediary item supply), and the ability to turn most other currencies into gold is very limited (commendations only has the inscriptions).
They probably feel differently about this now (an example being the direct crest to materials exchange) and would likely make these items salvageable if they added them to the game today. It’s usually better not to change something unless there is a good reason to. We may find them wanting to devalue ectos some time in the future, and their answer might be to make these salvageable until then, I recommend never buying karma or badge items.

I want to find some Tiny Bags of Booty
They should drop from level 1-15 pirates
But where can you find pirates with that low of level?
The wiki says there are pirate camps in Gendarran, Lornar’s, Bloodtide Coast, and Cursed Shore. All of those are >25.
Maybe there is an event that has attacking pirates in queensdale?
I really hope the only source isn’t level 15’s in level 25 zones.

do you seriously need 25.000 ectos and 10.000gold for that achievment or am i getting something wrong?

you are correct, except that you will get roughly 25000 ectos and 10000 gold back. plus or minus a few thousand. after 100 globs, I was up 1000 ectos and down 1000 gold. after ~500 globs, I was up 4000 ecto and up 1000 gold. by about 600 globs I was up 6000 ecto and down 5000 gold. I had to stop because I ran out of gold :P now I have to sell these ecto.
I would say it’s actually decent returns (meaning close to 100% return if you play it infinite times, though probably a bit under). it’s not a clear money sink, but rather a true gamble, similar to those you would get at a blackjack table in a casino. just really high stakes.

in b4 "ecto drop rate nerfed" thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

so… every major updatet there is always someone who says the ecto drop rate got nerfed.
I was salvaging these items for the ecto and thought I’d post some results to proactively dispell that rumor (although that one time when they really did accidentally reduce ecto drop rate was really really funny):
983 salvages
Mystic Salvage Kit
level 68+ exotics
all post-patch

results:
1222 ecto (1.2431 each)
537 GoDM (0.546 each)
386 insignia/inscription (39.27%, but not all of them were able to drop these)
786 rune/sigil (80%)
178 T6 mats
1,676 T5 mats

before today, my average was 1.25 ecto per exotic. That’s the same thing as 1.2431 considering the sample size. note: these are exotics. not rares. rares drop around 0.85 ecto each, exotics drop around 1.25.

Give existing players 1600 gems

why 1600 gems? why 1 character slot?
I agree that people who bought the original game shouldn’t have to pay as much for the expansion (because they are not also buying the base game at the same time), or at least should get something extra such as a Fiery Dragon Sword.
But why would a character slot be what you ask for?

it’s easy to get 1 blade shard. then there’s a recipe to turn 1 into like 50 using watchwork sprockets.

maybe they are talking about skill points your characters already have? they never said those would be directly converted (how can they know you didn’t get them from leveling or want them for skills?), but that’s almost how it sounds.

delete them.
best case scenario, you’ll get 1 green item for every 100 blade shards. if 1 green = 2s, then that’s 5s value per stack. meaning you’re wasting that bank space for a possible 5s in the future. if bank space is worth that much to you, then keep saving. but I recommend deleting.

Mystic.5934

So, I read the news about Updating Your Wallet (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/updating-your-wallet/)
I don’t so much have a question as I have a concern you should address when you make the change to skill points and spirit shards:
1) if unlimited skill point sources give spirit shards, then if you spend the limited skill points on things like philosopher’s stones, are you sol in terms of buying slot skills?
2) if your current level 80 has 150 skill points when this update goes live, will you have to level up another 200 levels to be able to buy a bloodstone shard? I assume you’ll be able to spend those 150 on things like philosopher’s stones, but you’ll be unable to get more, so you would need to get 200 spirit shards before being able to buy a bloodstone shard.

to fix both of these, I might recommend discontinuing Miyani from accepting skill points entirely, so skill points are only for slot skills, then give her a temporary assistant (like 1-3 months, and have that assistant say when they will be leaving) that will convert existing skill points into spirit shards if you choose.

Black lion claim tickets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tl;dr: 1, 5 ticket weapon skin = $105, 1, 1 ticket weapon skin = $21

you’re able to farm keys by doing the level 10 personal story; takes about 20-30 minutes each key.
so you have a choice: 5-ticket skin for 33 hours, or 1-ticket skin for 6 hours.
or you could even farm gold, say 5g per hour, get ~80g, and buy the 1-ticket skin in 16 hours.
so many choices!

Bandit Crests - More Uses Needed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mystic.5934

Mystic.5934

I’ve found that Bag of Stolen Goods is the most efficient use of them. either by selling to TP or opening; both will give you around 5s. minus ~1s cost = 4s profit per 10 crests = 40c/crest (1g per stack)
sandy bag of gear: ~3s green item + 50c – 1s cost = 2.5s per 15 crests = 16c/crest
obby shard: 1s + 50 crests for equivalent of 2100 karma. if 40c/crest, then 2100 karma would be worth 21s = 10s/1000 karma. that’s not the worst return for karma, but not the best either. If you really need these, then it’s not bad.
but in terms of converting crest to gold, go with Bag of Stolen Goods

It started maybe 2ish weeks ago. It always happens while crafting. always in the middle of an amount of things being crafting. The current time, I tried to craft 286 Bowls of Poultry Stock, after 37 of them, it crashed. Previously, it’s crashed on other characters, other professions, but always in the middle of making a few of something.
“Exception: c0000005
A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.”
I click ‘OK’, game closes, I open it again, go back to the Bowls of Poultry Stock, and I now have 286 of them. I suspect I have all of them because I left it open while writing this, previously it’s had less than the amount I wanted to make but more than the amount it left off at. So I suspect it’s still crafting in the background until the game closes. When I still have more to make, I have been able to finished crafting them without problem (but then it’ll crash some time later on something else).

I am using the mac client, running OSX 10.10.3
I’ve already ‘repaired the game client’ as outlined here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
I’m wondering when ArenaNet will determine the cause and fix it?

do not rush going from 200 to 300% mf.
I do recommend rushing to ~200, but it takes more than twice the luck than going from 1 to 200 and only gives a 33.3% benefit.
you’re going to go insane. it’s around 45 stacks of exotic luck to go from 200 to 300% mf. I would recommend just salvaging the blues and greens you normally find and every now and then refine them into exotic luck and consume them. what else would you do with that luck? I might even suggest using the fine luck to forge the lucky great ram lantern back piece; currently gives about 1g profit and consumes a stack of fine luck.
assuming % mf works the way everything thinks it does, and approximating that you get half your loot from mob drops, going from 200 to 300% mf would mean that over 1000 hours, instead of finding maybe 100 exotics, you would find 116 (would be 133 if you got all your loot from mob drops, but realistically a lot of it will come from champ bags and chests, which mf does not affect). 16 exotics are worth around 32g. so wouldn’t even recoup the cost of rushing the luck. (100 exotics / 1000 hours = 1 exotic / 10 hours. I would say this is close to accurate.)
I have 299% mf from luck; ~260 of it was from buying and salvaging blues and greens.

mesmer GS #1 does NOT hit as long as he’s in range. It can easily be obstructed.

high ground is supposed to be an advantage. that said, like 99% of the time, if they can hit you, you can hit them (only exception that comes to mind is ranger bow range upgrade). the difference that high ground gives is that they can back up to easily avoid your shot, while you can’t.
my preferred way to deal with this situation is to temporal curtain the cliff just below them, then yoink them off. usually they die just from the fall, but if not dead they will be at half health and can easily be bursted down.

especially if you want to pvp, but also for otherwise, you should eventually try all of them to at least level 40 if not 80. for non-pvp, the reason would be to find the character you enjoy playing. for pvp, it would be so you can learn the strengths/weaknesses of the opponents and how to death with different builds.
best example of this is stealth thieves. they like to sneak up on you, hit you hard, then go back into stealth. except their best stealth-provider is shadow refuge, which they can easily be pulled out if with a kb or pull skill, then they are weaker than fishies out of water because they used all their initiative. you wouldn’t know this if you didn’t try them and know that it’s actually their ‘omg I am so dead get me out of there’ time.

this is my list of professions in order of simple (meaning easy to learn, button-mash, usually straight-forward attacking) to complex (meaning indirect, longer to learn, more variety in skills, usually summons things or have tricky skills): warrior, ranger, guardian, thief, necro, engineer, mesmer, elementalist.

I think it has to do with impact. armor and rejuvenating affects balance, mf and crafting and gathering could possibly be profitable, but wxp only increases your wvw rank. if you play a lot, then rank is just prestigious. if you don’t play wvw a lot, then wxp wouldn’t do much anyways. came here to suggest this :P
let me paint you a picture:
piles of dead players, refusing to wp because you wouldn’t get credit if you weren’t nearby when it died, scaling the FE to where it would take the live players an hour+ to kill if they were able to attack uninterrupted.
most players were dead near the bridge, which as you may know, is where you enter the area :P that’s how quickly people would die to the fire balls.
fire balls from hell. they would target players, not just randomly placed. this is the order of events if a fireball hit you: take ~40% of your health in damage, receive high-damage burning, knock back and stunned for 5 seconds, THEN you see the animation, 3 seconds later another one would hit you while you were still stunned. it would literally hit you before you saw it coming. the general strategy was: run zig zag, dodge when not changing direction, attack maybe 3 times, get hit, stun break, attack once or twice, get hit, attack once or twice, down, maybe attack once or twice, die, wp, run back, repeat :P

now… maybe not quite so rough. definitely show red circles before they land, but I liked the targeted fireballs. so if people clump up, there will be 50 fireballs coming their way. and more life; it should be alive at least a minute.

Clones replacing Phantasms

So… I remember an update a while ago where they made it so if a mesmer summons an illusion, it will only replace a previous one (if you already have 3) if it’s not a clone replacing a phantasm (new phantasm will replace a clone, or if no clone then the oldest phantasm. a new clone will replace an old clone. a new clone will not spawn if only phantasms are out).
that seems to not be the case anymore as I just saw a Phantasmal Warlock replaced by a Phase Retreat Clone? when did this change?

The scaling of strength

instead of downleveling, I would of preferred if they made it so the difference in stats between a level 1 and a level 80 is like 2×. so a level 1 with all white gear has half the stats of a level 80 with all ascended gear (the gear only contributing like 25% of that difference). then no downleveling at all. same effect as downleveling (because you are actually stronger than if you were at that level), but no complexity and you are more absolutely stronger instead of indirectly (currently, you’re only stronger because you have better gear and traits).

never mind the ‘j/k’ part, I don’t understand what you were trying to say :P you’re already downleveled to the level of the area. are you under the impression that when you are currently downed, you become un-downleveled? so a level 80 that downs in a level 15 area has level 80 stats and can 1-shot champs?

shadowstep change (in my opinion bad)

From spvp point teleports had huge buff that needs to be nerfed as teleport classes have it way too easy right now there. Ledges are not save anymore for ranged classes as any noob can teleport up there over and over and screw you over. Its needs to be fixed.

teleport classes waste entire skill(s) to give them that mobility. what other reason than to get out of pickles?
unrelated to OP, but along these lines: I love when I’m downed, use deception, and it teleports me to a floor below or above

non grindy

lol! did we read the same news? (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-legendary-journey/)
visit vendor, start journey towards precursor
complete a collection themed around the legendary, includes items, materials, minis, food, junk. “all about the hunt”
this lets you unlock a recipe to craft the pre-pre-precursor (I assume this will require deldrimor ingots and spiritwood planks)
then you run around and talk to people about how to get a recipe to refine it into the pre-precursor (remember making mawdry?) (more deldrimor and spiritwood)
more running around talking to people, “participate in a range of activities” to get the recipe to craft the precursor.
all of these are non-TPable
then the rest of the legendary is same as usual.
I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘grindy’.

as for legendary armor, I would say ‘no’. reason is that legendaries are not legendary. once upon a time they were. now, people notice you if you are NOT running a legendary. they are not fancy anymore. now imagine an entire zerg with the same armor too.
