Mystic’s Gold Profiting Guide

I just killed a small spider in AC, got a chest, and it contained a glob of globby goo. I would not consider that uncommon or higher.
I would lose track of my cursor when in battle sometimes. It was an issue. Around a week ago while teaching my grandmother how to use her computer I stumbled upon a solution I’ve already implemented myself:
1) on your Mac, in Finder, go to system preferences
2a) in newer OS, it’s under Appearance
2b) in older OS, it’s under Universal Access
3) Mouse tab
4) move the Cursor Size up
it defaults to ‘Normal’, which is the minimum it can be. largest is about 4 times bigger.
changing this will also change the size of the cursor in GW2
Setting it to the largest makes the GW2 cursor almost completely cover my tall asura. I set mine to about 2x normal size, and I know there’s no way I’ll lose the cursor in battle again
a quick google search says this is also possible on windows, but I don’t know if it affects GW2 as well.
Interesting point indeed. Without direct knowledge, I would expect that mf from your gear WILL scale down in low-level areas. I would also expect that mf from food/boosts will NOT scale down.
however… gold find is easily quantifiable, and I would expect it to scale or not scale the same as magic find. and I can confirm that Rune of Scavenging (adds 15% gold find) DOES NOT scale down (silver obtained from bosses in low level dungeons). Further, everyone already knows that omnom bar applies 40% gold find even at low levels, which could be why no one has thought of this point before now.
After that thought, I’m thinking they may of forgot to scale magic find and gold find when in low levels. That brings up if they even should be scaled. I think that a guild’s mf banner should apply the same percent to both a high and a low level in the same area… but omnomn bar isn’t available to low levels and they do have low-level equivalents. If it were up to me, food and gear would scale but boosts (from BL chests) and banners would not.
I have a suggestion for why these are bugged: you see other people’s chests.
basically, if 2 people kill a vet, you might get a white pistol off the corpse while the other person gets a masterwork out of the chest. there wouldn’t be any way to distinguish if the sparkles are coming from the corpse or the chest sitting on the corpse.
that said, I’ve killed things solo and got things from chests that might should not of been there, like unid dyes and salvageable materials and piles of dust. Myself, I haven’t noticed any basic equipment from chests, just white/blue items exampled above. Most of the time I just see the ‘Search’ button and I press it.
I agree with this post in general, if not the specifics.
what annoys me is that they added laurels because they didn’t want ascended gear to be limited to fractals (as they said: they planned it to be available in more places, but they planned it poorly with that release). The annoying part is that now ascended amulets are highly limited to laurels, and through them: dailies and monthlies. not everyone wants to be doing dailies and monthlies to get top-tier amulets, just as not everyone wanted to be doing fractals to get top-tier rings and back pieces.
I can only hope they stop futzing around and provide their more ways to get ascended items.
hint / suggestion: either let them be purchased everywhere they are available, or each in their own place. having rings, back, amulets, infusions available from laurels but only rings and back available from fractals and infusions crafted is plain stupid. how many other examples of this do you have in gw2? zero. it would be like being able to craft weapons in mystic forge but not armor and be able to craft armor in crafting stations but not weapons, then trinkets would be available from vendors and dungeon tokens, but back pieces are only available from dungeon tokens.
sorry, I stand corrected: there is one other area that is similar to this foolishness: breathing aparatuses. and I can only hope you’ve seen how people gripe about how they’ve been overlooked since day one.
It’s funny to be able to see the landscape super far away but no characters, then see spells being cast very far away, but still no characters, then see characters kinda far away.
I think it’s reasonable, but it’s just funny to see that action is going on before any people.
I had a good laugh recently. was mining a copper ore in Metrica and someone instantly appeared next to me, mined, instantly disappeared. It could of been an alt, but who would park their alt at a copper ore just for the mining!? (I suppose it would only take 5 minutes to set up…) I assumed it was a warping bot, but who would want their bot to farm copper ore for them!?!? (I suppose it’s less obvious and thus less likely to be detected, despite giving about 1/5 the profit…)
it’s taken me longer than 2 days to complete, so not too too easy (unlike January), and I’m about 50 events and 200 salvages away from finishing (maybe 2-3 days), so not too hard.
I should say that a ‘monthly’ achievement should take nearly a month to complete. now, different time investments will change this, but I would think that it should be calibrated to take 30 hours to finish (1 hour/day for 30 days). Knowing how much I’ve played, this might be close to that.
I’ve been wondering for a while who is placing all the buy orders for BL chests at 1c. I can understand the 2c sell orders or a couple 1c buy orders, but why so many buy orders!?
I’ll throw this out there: I’m sure you can get a 20-30" lcd monitor or TV off craigslist for free. TV might require a $10 converter to attach to your computer if it’s really old.
Seems entirely reasonable. And at 3 servers max per day, how could this possibly be labelled and exploit? o.O
yeah, I don’t think it’s an exploit. just not something I want to do despite the income potential. it requires keeping all your characters at the node, and they all have to be fairly high level now (I think they made that mining pick level 45? – used to be no level requirement before the update). I’d rather just make 20g/day off the TP and actually play the game.
lol, first thing I did after reading the OP thread was check spidy :P
I proposed in another thread that this was why they limited server guesting and remove the rich ori node.
rich ori node = ~15 ori ore in 10 seconds
8 characters = 120 ori ore in 80 seconds + ~80 seconds to switch characters = 160 seconds
24 servers = 2,880 ori ore in 3,840 seconds
2,880 ori ore = 87g in 64 minutes
instead:
ori node = ~3 ori ore in 3 seconds
8 characters = 72 ori ore in 24 seconds + ~80 seconds to switch characters = 104 seconds
3 servers = 216 ori ore in 312 seconds
216 ori ore = 6.5g in 5.2 minutes

I believe daily fractal is account-wide.
so if you do level 10 daily on one character, you can’t do level 10 on another character and get a second daily.
as Callum said, that’s what I do.
with the higher level dungeons, I prefer to buy the lvl 68+ rares and salvage them. But AC is too low a level for that, so lvl 80 exotic weapons into the forge it is. from 840 tokens you get a ~3g weapon with chance at a precursor. (use several different item types to produce a random item type)
I think I’ll look into bri’s suggestion :P I didn’t even notice them before but I’ll give them a look now.
I am impressed by the size of your screen
I’m sorry that I don’t know of a way to help your problem, though.
maybe add this suggestion but add a captcha (for only this suggestion – not the rest of the TP)
or better yet: something in the base code of gw2 that prevents other running programs from making input, so only a physical keyboard/mouse could actually control the game… if only that were possible. But then you’d probably see one computer sending input to another.
maybe have video confirmation of a person at the computer via webcam?
it gets returned to your TP pickup window. you have to retrieve it from there.
now, it is possible the TP bugged out. I’ve had it bug both ways: not give me a purchased item, and another time it gave me a purchased item and a refund for the buy order.
I’ll add my name to the list of people that would pay gems for a name change.
I feel like I’ve had around 6 keys drop in the 1,200 hours I’ve played, and 5 of those were within the first 2 months or so, immediately after beta.
However, I’ve used many keys to the point that I have more boosts than I’ll ever use (currently 4 maxed crafts and 11 extra crafting boosters. I also had to start using BLSK on rares because I had to free up bank space).
I think I got most of my keys from map completion
I could see that some people would want this, but I would never use it. everything I sell I judge to make the profit off it. maybe sell for highest buy order (to reduce risk of it not selling), maybe for 1c undercut lowest sell order, maybe a different sell order (sometimes I see someone is trying to seed the market with lower prices), maybe end up selling to vendor.
bot users would REALLY want this suggestion.
it does suck when something you invested in goes down.
you have a good idea the price will eventually go back up, so it’s likely that if you hold onto them long enough you’ll eventually make a profit.
but if you sell now at 50% loss, it’s possible to re-invest it and make more profit during that same time (10% profit per day over 2 months = 30,548% profit)
that’s why I tend to stay away from the long-term investments.
That said, part of my current investments is long-term :P (it is a good idea to diversify) but that’s only because it has almost zero risk (buying items for 1c more than merchant price and potentially HUGE payoffs (2,500% profit) – if it ever pays off. I’m really only doing it because I’ve gathered enough gold that I can’t invest it all in a timely manner.
also: I’m sitting on a previous crummy long-term investment: candy corn. I bought around 60 stacks at 5c each during halloween. then they went down to 2c :P bought another 60 stacks. At the time, I decided to post them on the TP for 10c each and am waiting until it finally pays off (soon! – they’re up to 7c atm)
last bit of advice: never invest everything you have. always keep maybe half of your gold in supply. so if another great investment comes up, you can invest half of that gold into it. and so on. it lets you be ready for this changing market

for me, when I sell stuff on the TP:
the left side of the window has a list of everything I can sell
the right has the sale screen
after you press ‘sell’, I just click on the next item in the list
if it goes to the end of the page (by not selling some items), I find I have to press ‘ok’ to close the right side of the screen, then click on the top item in the next page of items.
it’s not ideal, but I don’t have to close the window like you describe.
earrings and accessories.
100g to make captains commendations for keys. then no keys.
I think there’s a difference between having grind and requiring grind, which a lot of people seem to confuse
You can play this game with zero grind and still have full exotic gear
You can also choose to grind to your hearts desire so you go beyond that full exotic set, like to get a legendary or a million gold.
Optional grind does not count when they say they designed the game with no grind. They could not possibly help it if people decided to focus on one thing to repeatedly do over and over again just because it gives 10% more gold than another area.
Sure, you won’t get quite as high of a income if you don’t grind, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessary.
Now, if one spot gave so much more gold than all the others, then I’d say that spot was necessary to grind. I just don’t think that’s currently the case.
+1 to this
I’m glad to see someone name a good server to use (I had the same general idea but no method to make it happen)
if you want to own it, buy it on the TP
if you want to gamble, use the forge.
do NOT use the forge if you want to expect to get it, as it’s all about luck.
+1 for JayMack. several people in my guild were also fooled by this
I tested my plan ‘I’:
I bought a level 80 exotic Lyonguard Sword (greatsword)
I bought a level 80 basic Greatsword (greatsword)
I transmuted them with a fine Transmutation Stone
look of Lyonguard Sword
stats of Greatsword
sigil of Lyonguard Sword
The resulting item was a level 80 basic Lyonguard Sword with basic Greatsword stats with sup sigil of karka slaying with orange text (where an exotic would say ‘exotic’, this said nothing, meaning it was basic = their update of this has a bug)
putting 4 of these in the mystic forge gave me a level 80 Fine Greatsword. FAIL
plan J: salvaging these with a BL kit gave me a mithril and a superior sigil of karka slaying
looking on spidy, superior sigil of karka slaying was worth 40g before the patch, 4g within minutes after the patch, and currently about 1.5g. not a horrible alternative. Once commendations are gone, this sigil will be more rare and hopefully go up in price… if anyone wants it :P
Latest update: “Transmuting weapons now preserves the higher rarity of the two items.”
This is not the case.
I’ll give my specific example:
I bought a level 80 exotic Lyonguard Sword (greatsword)
I bought a level 80 basic Greatsword (greatsword)
I transmuted them with a fine Transmutation Stone
look of Lyonguard Sword
stats of Greatsword
sigil of Lyonguard Sword
The resulting item was a level 80 basic Lyonguard Sword with basic Greatsword stats with orange text (where an exotic would say ‘exotic’, this said nothing, meaning it was basic)
I confirmed it’s basic rarity by putting 4 of these in the mystic forge and getting a level 80 Fine Greatsword out.
rich ori node gone: it’s a blow to ori supply in the game, but not unexpected. I’m sad to see it go.
mining picks that exploited a bug: you’re not allowed to complain
as far as I know, there’s no limit to the number of mails you can get. but you can only see the 10 oldest at any one time.
but if you increase drop rates and remove these mf laurels, then dailies and monthlies have no purpose :P
but this has been possible with other dungeons for a long time, and I haven’t heard of it until now. I’d say the final reward isn’t enough to go through all this trouble. After lots of fractals, most of the rewards are near-useless.
oh, I think I have a plan ‘I’ !:
1) buy her exotic weapons
2) transmute them with level 80 blue/white items (new update says they’ll keep their exotic status)
3) throw the exotic soulbound item into mystic forge
4) sell forged item for small percent of coins used to get commendations in the first place
52,000 commendations = 40 weapons = 40 Fine T Stones = 10 sellable weapons = ~30g (cost me 100g to get those commendations)
but at least it’s better than destroying
anyone want to test for me if transmuted Lyns weapons can be forged?
I’ll try it when I get home. and yes, I do have around 60 extra Fine T Stones (I’ve only ever used like 3 of them)
lol, salvage junk into crafting materials is what I have named my plan ‘G’ [IMPRACTICAL]
plan ‘F’ was to salvage her items to get ectos [DENIED]
plan ‘E’ was to mystic forge her items into sellable items [DENIED]
plan ‘D’ never existed
plan ‘C’ was to buy temporary exotic items for my alts (until they can afford the ones they want) [IMPRACTICAL]
plan ‘B’ was to have unlimited supply of mining tools and salvage kits [IMPRACTICAL]
plan ‘A’ was to buy keys [DENIED]
currently, my overall plan is this: 3% B, 10% C, ~2% G, 85% H (destroy them)
I would like to add a quick note to Anet: The order in which you disabled this feature was amateur, misleading, and cruel. I’m sure you had a reason for removing keys, but it wasn’t me: I have never and will never buy keys with gems. Chests are not worth that much.
(edited by Mystic.5934)
pretty much – bots collect gold and supply everything else. people gather gold and buy everything else :P
yes, fine T5’s have gone up. I guess I just don’t consider fines the default when talking about materials unless specified. I thought those went up because the fine T6 mats went up.
I think that in general, bots bring non-gold into the game and hoard gold they can sell them for. so less bots = inflation on everything. some things were going to drop in price anyways, so they stay the same after a wave of bot banning.
gw2lfg only works because so many people use it. this would require no more coordination than that. it just has to be a single, popular, source that everyone uses. well, not even single. but all the sources do have to agree, for maximum effectiveness.
T5 is 2s?? I know a lot of T6 mats are… as of last night, these are the prices of T5 mats I saw: mithril=55c, silk=15c, thick leather=8c, elder wood=11c
checking spidy just now confirms these approximate prices.
2 weeks ago I salvaged 140 lvl 68+ rare armors with Mystic kits and had a 80% ecto return rate
Yeah a lot of people made that mistake… I still have 7500 candy corn sitting in my bank lol.
yeah… I bought about 20 stacks at 4c each, then 40 more at 2c each. I was going to be sol on bank space, but about 2 days after halloween ended I listed them all on the TP for about equal amounts at 10c, 15c, 20c, 25c, 30c, 35c, 40c, 45c, 50c, 55c, 60c :P so as the price increases I’ll start seeing my return. and it takes 0 bank space.
T5 crafting mats have not increased much in price.
my guess is that it did a sudden increase after recent bot banning and now people are buying them up in case the price goes higher, which of course will make the price go higher :P
starting to wish I didn’t sell my 120 ecto at 36s. but not the worst market choice I’ve ever made :P (I’d say candy corn was)
it’s kinda funny how many things are influenced by ectos.
my procedure:
account bound exotic/rare = save to throw in Mystic Forge with 3 others or salvage with Mystic/BL kit
exotic = sell on TP
rare = sell on TP if it can sell for more than the price of ecto, otherwise salvage with Mystic kit
white = sell on TP if significantly higher than vendor price
low level blue/green = sell on TP if significantly higher than vendor price
all things worth <40c = salvage with basic salvage kit
everything left over = sell to vendor (green + blue/white worth >40c)
my rationale: of the crafting materials you are likely to get from salvaging, how many are worth more than 40c? sometimes mithril or hardened leather, but that’s it. likely you’ll get lower than that. so selling to vendor then buying what you need from TP would leave you with more coins.
if it were female there would be a pink onesie. pretty sure that’s visible through any holes in armor. males just have shorts on, so that’s most likely. a very feminine male
everytime I see one of these posts, while opening it, I wonder if it was me they were talking about :P
So I had this idea on another thread but I thought I’d bring it here so it’s less hidden:
There are currently numerous suggestions for underflow servers (sorta like an overflow except anyone on any server can go there if the world they are in is empty).
Guesting could be used by the community to create an underflow.
Someone just needs to made a webpage that has lists of servers and what areas they are hosting (we would need to somehow agree on these…).
Examples: If you want to explore Orr, go to any of these 3 servers. metrica, this server. Harathi, this server. etc.
Then that server will have high activity in that area.
Sorta like gw2lfg but with areas and servers instead of dungeons and parties.
Is there a cap on the number of people that can guest to a server? everyone that wants to do high activity pve could just all guest to the same server, make it a really active game everywhere.
And a suggestion to the creators of dragon timer websites:
I’m pretty sure dragons aren’t spawned at the same time on all servers. They would just need to create another option to list all the servers that currently have that dragon present. So if you want to kill the shatterer, you look up which server just started him and go there.
I thought plox was a person :P something like: Samantha Plox, head of data manipulation at Anet
You know, we could make guesting totally worth while. There are currently numerous suggestions for underflow servers (sorta like an overflow except anyone on any server can go there if the world they are in is empty). guesting could be used by the community to create an underflow. Someone just needs to made a webpage that has lists of servers and what areas they are hosting. So if you want to explore Orr, go to any of these 3 servers. metrica, this server. Harathi, this server. etc. Then that server will have high activity in that area. Sorta like gw2lfg but with areas and servers instead of dungeons and parties.
Is there a cap on the number of people that can guest to a server? everyone that wants to do high activity pve could just all guest to the same server, make it a really active game instead of deserted…
you know, another use for guesting: dragon killing. I’m pretty sure they aren’t spawned at the same time on all servers. that dragon timer website can expand to list all the servers that currently have that dragon present. So if you want to kill shatterer, you look up which server just started him and go there.
Guesting is getting better by the second… but if it is 2 changes / day, that severely limits all of these ideas. I suppose you shouldn’t be allowed to kill a dragon every 10 minutes for 10 hours straight…
another way to abuse unlimited guesting: park 8 characters at rich ori mine. mine on server 1. guest to server 2, mine on server 2. guest to server 3, mine on server 3. there are 24 servers I think? 1920 ori minings per day, you tend to get maybe 1.3 ori per mining = 2,496 ori = ~49g / day
(edited by Mystic.5934)
I can’t seem to gauge that ‘sweet spot’ in selling.
[snip]
I’m now completely out of stock because it looked like a good time to sell and prices are still going up, seemingly endlessly. I haven’t lost any money, I’ve definitely turned a profit, but I could have made at least 5s more on each item (ultimately adding up to quite a bit of gold) if I knew what this market was doing. :\If anyone here could predict exactly when things on markets were going to reach their low and their high points, they would be writing these posts from their yacht on the Mediterranean.
that’s what market manipulators do: they create the lows and highs to match their stock. there are people in the game with 10,000g
I just found a plan G last night:
salvage items are around the same price as the thing they produce once salvaged. but they produce more than 1 per salvage, and sometimes the next tier up. So if you have free salvages (as we will have if they don’t add other items), this will produce some profit (probably no profit after TP tax). it will also produce achievement points because of ‘Agent of Entropy’.
so free items and free salvages, crude salvage kit for 1 commendation, 56k commendations = 840,000 salvages = 8,400 achievement points and minor gold profits. actually not a bad use for them… if you’re ok with the carpal tunnel syndrome from so much clicking
I thought “guesting” would be inviting guests who don’t have the game to try GW2 for a short time – I did really want that.
As for myself, I guess I don’t know enough of your other examples to know just how bad this guesting system is. Even with that outlook, I still don’t plan on ever using guesting as it has described. I already join with members of different servers for dungeon runs (thank you for that being possible!)
I can only guess that this implementation of guesting can only help someone who wants to run around the countryside with people in other servers, as those are often not full so you couldn’t count on switching to the same person’s overflow. Also for things like temple of balthazar…
among other TP improvements, I want these filters (profession and armor type)
it takes me about 2 hours to update material prices on my spreadsheet, look through prices on the TP, decide what to buy, buy crafting materials (I always do buy orders, then run some dungeons, then collect and continue), craft everything I planned on, sell it (if it’s a large amount of some things, I might sell half or a quarter of it at a time, expecting not all of it to sell before getting undercutted). I do that maybe 2-3 times a week.
On average I’ll get about 50-100% return (after taxes). Once I saw 350% return on a T3 item (was able to sell quite a few before being undercut). Once I saw someone was trying to manipulate the market :P exactly 1 person listing 65 T6 items at 400% return. I made a few, then listed them at 200% return (at T6, the prices are huge and people just won’t pay too much for them) :P
I will invest in anything that gives me more than ~10% return after tax. Below that and even a single undercut could destroy your profit margin.
