Mystic’s Gold Profiting Guide
Forge & more JSON recipes
that is a good idea, Decrypter. If she still has keys when/if she re-opens, I’ll look into that!
RollingBob, if 4 karma items in forge give 1 random item, then 3 karma items + commendation in forge should give commendations.
No developer is going to go through all the work to add a new feature (such as Lyns) that will never be used (such as selling keys for a higher cost than gem store). Also, if gold→gem prices go down, gem store keys will be cheaper than Lyns keys. It’s just a different currency exchange rate.
yup yup. Don’t worry, I also do that math: if ( (‘projected profit’ – ‘listing fee’) > merchant price ), sell on TP.
I did it with karma gear a few days ago. I couldnt salvage it so i used the mystic forge and sold the item i got on TP
I also put 4 karma items into the mystic forge and got 1 TP-able item out. I did it about 4 weeks ago. Doing this to exotics is the best way I know of if you want to convert karma into gold. horrible rate (about 40k-160k karma per gold), but if I’m not going for a legendary, I don’t really have another use for hundreds of thousands of karma.
how many gold ingots does it take to make a ring? (looking it up: 1 gold band = 3 gold ingot + 1 gold setting = 2 gold ingot, so 5 gold ingot total)
gold rings in real life are around 30-90 grams (making each of the 5 gold ingots used to make it 6 – 18 grams)
gold coins tend to be 1 troy ounce = 31 grams
As you can see, it would be 2-5 gold ingots per gold coin.
these ingots are quite small (ingot is just a usable way to store a precious metal – it doesn’t have to be a 10 pound brick)
And after all this, it’s still hard to make forgeries. In the era this world is set in; probably impossible.
couple possibilities:
1) people find mats, craft exotics, sell for sell prices. since there aren’t many buyers, sell prices go down. people just didn’t make the same spreadsheet you did
2) people calculate the cost of making an exotic and see the price they can sell it for, see that there’s a profit, but forget about the 15% market tax
3) buy it and craft when it would be profitable, don’t sell all of them, relist at lower price for fear of price dipping even lower.
I only sell for ‘meet highest buyer’ price when that price is within 1% of the ‘meet lowest seller’ price. (66c vs. 67c is close enough to give you peace of mind that it will sell)
I tried cores → lodestones at one point. Didn’t make very much, but I’m pretty sure I made something. I’m just not so sure the profit is as high as you make it sound. current prices:
charged core = buy order for 1g49s12c
charged lodestone = sell listings for 3g69s50c
Pile of Crystalline Dust = buy order for 5s14c
cost of converting core to lodestone = 2 × 1g49s12c (core) + 25s60c (wine) + 5s14c (dust) + 0.6 SP = 3g28s98c
3g69s50c * 85% = 3g14s07c
now, right now it’s clearly not a good idea to do these, bad example I guess. But I’ve never seen a time when the expected profit would be higher than about 50s. sure, 50s is good, but for the cost required to do it, it’s not that impressive and there are better investments to be had. I see this as more of the best way to turn SP into gold 3g → 3.5g for 0.6 SP. And during that time, I tend to find more cores than I do SP.
I got the impression it was something like 3,000 bans, 500 suspensions. any idea what actual numbers are?
lol, I do hate their format.
you list one thing for 1s00c, here’s the resulting numbers:
the ‘listing fee’ is 5c (payable right then, taken from your collection of coins)
the ‘projected profit’ is 90c
the unseen TP tax is 10c (deducted from the amount you get when the item sells)
the actual take-home profit is 85c
If you want these numbers to be helpful to you when listing something where the alternative is selling it to a merchant:
if ( (‘projected profit’ – listing fee) > item merchant price ), then sell on TP. otherwise, sell to merchant
‘projected profit’ is absolutely the wrong term to use here. A better term for this would be ‘projected return’, as ‘profit’ implies actual PROFIT. It’s like telling someone “I won 600 million in the lottery” instead of “I got to keep 150 million from winning the lottery after lump-sum payout reduction and taxes”.
I like the non-standard base 100 denominations. It’s similar enough to what you know that you can get it, and different enough that it adds intrigue.
The one thing I was disappointed with is not being able to turn copper ore into copper, etc. When I started, I was SURE that’s what mining copper ore did. (I thought there would be an exchange rate at least, maybe 1:1 for copper, 50:1 for silver, 1000:1 for gold)
The cheaper infusions are all you need to do high level fractals.
The expensive infusions add a bit of stats. They are super expensive because those are extra stats you can’t get anywhere else. Similar to: why use lvl 80 gear when lvl 79 gear is pretty much just as good?
Shortly into the wintersday event (after Lyns closed down), a developer said Lyns would be open during the wintersday event.
A different developer later said Lyns would not reopen until after wintersday ended, but did not specify a date.
I am of the opinion (and saddened by it) that she will reopen with no keys, but will have new items not available before. I’m not too confident I’ll be able to spend my 56,000 captains commendations I made before I found out she closed down.
when I do this all the time (hehe), I would just clear my inventory of everything the bag would give them (and everything else, to avoid clutter). Open your 300,000 bags, then see how many of each thing you got out of it. it’ll auto-add-up everything for you. I doubt wiki cares what order you got things in, just what the percentages are for each obtainable.
In the chat window, you can have it just show you game messages. For bags, it would look something like “You got 1 pile of dust”. I’m not sure how far back it goes – it definitely gets cleared each log out, but I would expect you can copy/paste it.
join groups with people from other servers. odds are it’s open on one of their servers
Among the things I think they might implement to remove excess ascended rings from the game, I think I’d most want to be able to convert them into pristine fractal relics, so you can then get the ring you do want. I’d prefer to do that above salvaging for ecto or put 4 into mystic forge and get 1 random one out.
you know, after thinking for a minute, I think that 1c undercut is not even what people are so mad about. It’s that they were undercut at all and their listing won’t sell as quickly. 1c is just the most common.
Let’s say it’s a medium fluidity market, like lvl 80 berserker’s exotic armor. You list one for 1g. someone else lists one for 99s99c, you’re kitten that yours won’t sell for a meaningless difference.
But what if instead they listed theirs for 90s. would you really feel that differently about it? There’s no way you would see that and be like “oh, that’s a totally reasonable thing to do – I’m ok with them making a sale before I do”. If that happened to me, I’d be like “gerrrahhhh! now I have to take a puppy 15s1c profit loss to put mine below theirs so it sells quicker”
I like reading these because it does give insight into Game Theory. But I can’t help but be amused that there are people that complain about 1c undercutting, and people that complain when people undercut by large amounts which drive the price of that item down further than it has to.
Personally, I think that 1c undercut is not the whole story. For example: 1c undercut on globs of ecto is not only meaningless for both sides of this argument, no one even minds it. That market is too fluid – it’s too likely that one person will place an order for 1000 ecto and buy the 1c undercut, your listing, and 10 listings above you.
People only get aggravated at 1c undercut when the turnover rate of that item is low. 1c undercut a legendary, for example. There’s going to be a significant time difference between when both of those sell.
There was this one time… we were at the Jade Maw, and someone was thrown back by a tentacle, went off the ledge, hit a lower ledge and died there. We could reach them if we wanted to, but there was no way to get back. We completed the map with just 4, then debated what to do. He got the daily chest, but not the loot chest. We all suicided, the retry window came up (with the continue window also visible in the corner of my screen), then he ran to the chest and opened it.
kinda like what happened to you but in reverse order.
I already completed this monthly ach, and I can tell you that there were 2 puzzles where I noticed it didn’t work (Branded Mine, for example) – I was checking the ach before and after approaching each puzzle. The rest worked.
If you know where jumping puzzles are, it’s totally do-able. I even did most of the puzzles while there
one of the chests gave me a lvl 80 named exotic (I think it was from Morgan’s Leap).
it sounds like the ‘retry’ window was replaced by the ‘continue’ window for him.
reviving after dead boss is a hassle anyways – why not just auto-revive everyone when the chest appears? (why does maw even kill everyone without a shard in the first place?)
I estimate you’d get about 10g worth of stuff from just the rewards from doing the entire personal story (not counting loot from mobs).
you would get more from map completion of the high level areas
lol, I hope this works!
let’s say it does work and /everyone/ agrees to it: first thing I do is go buy every ori ore on the market, then relist them for 1g each. then no one could ever undercut me and I’d be the only source of ori ore! wahahahahahahahaha
dude, undercutting is the driving force behind supply and demand. with fixed prices, markets crumble and /everyone/ is unhappy (how many of those do you think I’d actually sell? O.o people would just put more attention to mining their own)
It’s annoying to get undercut, but get over it! if the going rate for what you’re selling is less than you’re selling it for, then stop overcharging!
Rising Dusk: apparently I left the hardest to last :P I look forward to doing these
Pinder: good idea, I’ll see what I can do, and I think I’ll separate the difficulty into different categories (like time, jumping challenge, puzzle challenge, mob obstacles, pace) – this would replace most of the comments too, making it easier to read. oh, I should also add what was most memorable about each.
Pinder: probably the biggest influence to difficulty was aggravation. also included was how technical the jumps are, the size of the landings, distances, and mobs hitting you while jumping. puzzle aspect (what to do / where to go next) is kinda summed up in aggravation. Difficulty was an overall feeling of “wow, that was rough!” vs. “huh, kinda underwhelming”
cpg: I considered that. I decided to rank it by just that jumping puzzle, not how to get there. I just deemed Morgan’s leap to be trickier jumps and harsher penalty for falling. This also applies to Tribulation Rift Scaffolding and Tribulation Caverns – probably would of been ranked harder if how-to-get-there was included.
I think the reward items also can not be salvaged (from personal story). also guild back pieces. and ascended rings.
I can see why the karma items, but everything else is just silly.
example of difficulty 1: stepping stone bridges (arrow shaped stones) spanning parts of Metrica Province and some other Asura areas (like near the Soren Draa WP)
example of difficulty 2: getting to the Vista above the cooking station in Rata Sum
Difficulty distribution:
1: in any screenshot you’ll see at least one of these
2: get creative. climb buildings. parkour.
3: 7 jumping puzzles + paths to several vistas
4: 5 jumping puzzles + paths to a few vistas
5: 5 jumping puzzles
6: 4 jumping puzzles
7: 7 jumping puzzles
8: 5 jumping puzzles
9: 2 jumping puzzles (1 more if Borderlands JP is occupied)
10: 2 jumping puzzles (1 more if Eternal Battlegrounds JP is occupied)
Difficulty is out of 10
Time is the total time to complete it the first time (H:M)
Tries is how many times I had to restart. could be started all over, or rerun part of it from falling
Lookup is if I was stuck and had to research the answer. Usually due to ‘where to go next’ sort of things

Comments:
When I did these was over a large chunk of time. So my skills got better during more recent puzzles. I tried to factor this in to a small degree
I made the Borderlands JP occupied difficulty only a 9, despite it actually being a 10, because you can more easily gather reinforcements or go to a different Borderlands.
At the Borderlands JP, enemies tend to be aggressive. At the Eternal Battlegrounds JP, they will leave you alone about 75% of the time.
Some that I still need to do are missing, I’ll fill these in in the next few days.
There are probably more mini dungeons or significant vista paths that belong here as well, I’ll add them as I discover them. If you have suggestions, let me know!
So I thought it could be helpful to make a list of the jumping puzzles (JP) and how difficult I thought they were the first time I did them. Could be useful for seeing which you should try next or recommending to a new player.
here it is:

also, here’s my solution to storage issues:
buy 10,000 candy corn at 2c, then immediately list it for, say, 10c. then wait until the price rises :P
It’s risky as you don’t know what the price will be when you want to cash it in, but I’m not so concerned about it. I only had like 40 stacks to begin with, so even if it never sells, that’s only 2g lost (if it does sell, that’s 9g payday = 6.5g profit)
“Only Zuhl” is a jumping puzzle in Timberline Falls
I believe this is a reference to Ghost Busters: “There is no Dana, only Zuul!”
in those cases, my bet is on typo.
When I came in here, I thought you were asking about white equipment. Sometimes the merchant will buy it for 30c, but then you go to the TP and there’s 106 buyer orders for it at 1s30c. what gives with that!? my only guess is people are salvaging them, but couldn’t they just buy the whites from any armor shop?
what’s the karma for 1 gold from greens?
personally, I had about 336,000 karma and decided to offload it.
I decided to buy exotic armor from a karma vendor in Orr (I looked into rares after trying this, but decided it wasn’t as cost-effective).
1 exotic for 42,000 karma
I bought 8 (different types)
I put them into the mystic forge and got 2 exotic armors (one was named), which I sold on the TP for about 8g total.
so that was about 42,000 karma for 1 gold.
edit: for greens at 2k karma each x 4 = 8k karma for 1 green sellable for about 2s is 400k karma for 1 gold. chance of getting rares, and less than 2k karma each will decrease the karma required, but exotics might still be the most cost-efficient.
either way, karma is not the way to go if you’re looking for a fortune. It’s more of a bonus after hours of regular looting

I bet the name lIlIlIlIlllIIlIllI1l1II1 would be impossible to report :P
upgrading an item to infused will only help you in fractals of the mist high high levels.
but still, your gear set isn’t complete until you infused and infusion it, so…
The cheap and easy way to do it:
kill 1 mob on 1st side, hit 1st seal
kill 1 mob on 2nd side, hit 2nd seal
kill 2nd mob on 1st side, hit 1st seal
kill a mob on the 1st side, hit 2nd seal
kill a mob on the 1st side, hit 1st seal (might be gone now if you’re quick about it, might take 1 more try)
after 1st seal is gone, it’s a piece of pie to do the other
I love when a group will plan this, then someone goes out of their way to hunt down the 2nd guy on both sides, then complains about it being impossible, while I’m telling them to stop killing it :P
about 2/3 of the days I run this, i get it first try, and usually first try on subsequent tries (maybe 10 days so far, most was 3 for 3 successful)
sometimes it’s cold in my house and my fingers are less reactive and I have to run it up to 5 times before getting it (happened about 5 times)
Overall, I’d rank this about 7/10 on difficulty. Halloween jumping puzzle was 8/10 (that one took me an hour to get, this one took me like 3 tries when it first opened = 6 minutes). for 10/10, I go to metrica province’s jumping puzzle :P I haven’t been to all of the puzzles in the game yet.
with lots of people, 1 more is not going to matter. With my example, it was 1 person doing the event and 1 more joining them. With so few, it becomes likely that each will take half the responsibility. maybe they each defend a different side of the onslaught and each end up killing half of the mobs that attack.
I have no idea how they define ‘participate’, but with other things (like mob loot), they tend to do it based on hitting a mob. so if you only hit half of the mobs that attack, maybe you only participate 50%?
I’ve never actually noticed if I got gold, silver, or bronze from any event I’ve done. nor do I want to be that nit-picky :PWhen my spouse and I (just us 2) tackle an event together, we’ll both get gold as long as we’re both doing damage for much of the duration of the event. It is mathematically impossible in this case for both of us to be doing >50% of the overall anything, and we still each get gold. It is possible that we each hit over half of the creatures since we both do AOEs, but in a large group of people for an event, I know I won’t hit anywhere close to half, and I still get gold.
The gold medal seems to be based on how much of the duration of the event your character spends in doing damage.
So, having another character join in does not negatively affect your chance at the gold level.
That’s good to hear
… and now this thread will never again be seen by the people that need to see it …
Asura, Infinity Ball, one chapter of personal story is titled “Any Sufficiently Advanced Science”
Arthur C. Clarke once said “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”
I love gw2lfg. too hard to find groups otherwise, and it’s worldwide!
the one problem I’ve ever had was 2 people in the same group had listings. one was “LF1M fotm 20”, the other was “LF1M guard/war 20+ AR FOTM 20”. I joined the first guy’s group, but the second guy called me an idiot that couldn’t read and booted me from the group (I’m a ranger) :P It took me several minutes until I went looking for a new group before I realized the jerk was the one that posted the second listing. They can’t all be success stories
It looks like they have the startings of the structure for this sort of thing inside the game, but it doesn’t work. Under contacts, there’s “Looking for Group”. but it’s mechanics suggest it’s more of “Search for a Player’s name”, though I have yet to actually find any player by using it – it always says that player doesn’t exist, even if I’m standing next to them.

yeah, cheaper to create a guild for storying stuff, but I think it’s more convenient to just shell out the gems.
I tried investing in holiday stuff. Things like Candy Corn (when they were 1c each).
I made a profit, but the turn-around time just killed any desire to do it again.
If you invest 20g and get 40g in a month, that’s 20g a month.
but if you invest 20g and get 25g in 1 day, then 30g the next day, then 35g the next, then 40g the next. that’s 20g in 4 days. Probably more risky, but it’s worked for me so far.
Cliffside Fractal
Boss fight against Legendary Archdiviner
Without warning, he disappeared
Then we found him: locked up in his own jail
He couldn’t get out and he wasn’t dealing us damage
When he ‘died’, we were able to pick up the hammer and smash the chains
A teammate was locked up at the same time, he couldn’t get out either
Cliffside Fractal.
I picked up the Cultist Hammer.
Group decided it was too hard, they voted to go back to observatory.
Still had Hammer.
We started a new fractal.
Still had Hammer.
Would of been interesting to see if I could of gone to Lion’s Arch with it.
Snowblind Fractal.
we killed the ice elemental / blizzard mini boss.
I still had 2 stacks of Frostbite, but I didn’t remove it in a fire.
It stayed with me and another in our group, slowly taking away health.
Killed the boss, went to next fractal.
It was still there.
Dying removed it.

I think % Gold Find is pretty straight forward in what it does (1s + 10% gf = 1s10c)
I was just wondering what it affects.
I’m sure it increases how much coins you get from mobs, but what about event/task rewards, dungeon completion, chests, bag of coins, etc.?
Thanks
Currently I have like 8 account bound ascended rings and 3 soulbound ascended rings (temporary ones before switching to a new one), aside from the ones my characters are using
Is there anything that can be done with these besides wait for more alts?
I haven’t tried putting 4 in the mystic forge to get a random one, but I will when I get home… I don’t have high hopes for it working.
I’m sure there are lots of bugs in the system with these, despite how they want them to work.
one easy example is swiftness. +33% is the same everywhere, and it says it stacks duration. But if someone gives you 10s of swiftness, then you immediately give yourself 20s of swiftness, I always end up with 20s of swiftness.
my guess is your shift key is getting stuck. maybe caps lock? I dont know if caps lock would even replicate this…
it’s not “any 3 boosts” + leather bag = boost multipack?
is that the same bag you get for completing the level 1 story task?
