defending takes patience, something most people don’t have. The patient spirit of the dolyak is built in to WvW. Must understand and respect that pace, or starve to death.
Commanders who can defend are going to change tier rankings when we have multiple commanders. Supply matters in WvW, it is sad how many commanders don’t realize supply matters.
no, we hear that in supposed to be golden tier 1.5 TC too. You have to check the attitude of the commanders to decide if you are going to bother with any upgrades/siege, if there will be any suppy coming in, or if it is all just going to be junk.
I have seen a bunch of commanders for the first time in the last few days. Hope some of them will turn out to be good. The thing with multiple commanders may also make a big difference. You could chose to follow a defensive or offensive commander.
…which is actually what Anet plans to add: color-coded commander icons. Hopefully it’ll be implemented soon
I think this will make a very cool change in game play. Can’t wait to see it.
kitten , got into EB after 3.5 hr in the queue.
Some of you guys never do PvE and may not realize, you finish PvE. PvE ends at some point. ANet is trying to make it go farther with the living story thing, but for the most part, you play it out, you complete the map, you do all the achievements and puzzles and stuff, it ends. WvW is the next step.
Transition from PvE to WvW has always been actively encouraged by ANet, btw. If you have never completed a character’s story you may not know, one of the rewards is a siege blueprint.
I got two golem blueprints before I realized what a useless supply suck they really are.

we just want to play and are tired of sitting in a queue. Just looking for something to blame.

I have presonally always tried to find some other build than
0-10-0-30-30 (classic bunker)
0-20-0-20-30 (s/d burst)
0-0-10-30-30 (staff bunker with earths embrace)
0-0-20-20-30 (staff bunker with rock solid)but any build i could come up with was far less survivable for a minor damage increase. Especially because of the massive condition bursts (6+ in 1-2 seconds) and immobilize spam I am always running with cleansing water in WvW. So currently for me 30 water and 30 arcane are hardpoints that I don’t want to miss (and the replacements in the other lines imho don’t make up for the lack of survivability and team condition remove).
the total lack of fire seems weird to me. To survive, you need to kill stuff before it kills you, right?
female, clearly. I have to smirk every time I see a male wearing the same dress as me.
heehee, got beat to yer underwear. It’s a fun video.
we had an ele commander in WvW EB who did pretty good today.
PvE running around lost are easy to kill, tho.
surprise. You will run into snobs in WvW. oh well.
good armor. You can make better armor than you can find or buy most of the time.
jumping puzzles make me cry.
I keep wondering if we don’t realize ANet has considered dumping WvW entirely because so few people play it. They may be forcing WvW players to put up with PvE in an effort to increase the number of players, or test whether there will ever be more players, before they dump it.
Sure we can say we will stop playing the game if WvW was removed, but how many of us are there? 5% of the total population in game? I wonder if it is even that many.
number or letter in the icon might work. Like, team 1 go here, team 2 go here..then we crush them between us here..
Agreed. We have a plan for doing something like this that we’ll have more info on later. Right now we have to get it tested and do all the other things before we can be sure it is what we’d want.
yay! This is going to be really helpful. I think it will make WvW more interesting and fun.
might be playing the wrong game if you are so opposed to lore. ANet put a lot of effort into the look and lore of this game. One of the reasons I like it so much.
WvW is quite a bit more interesting than Teq. Fighting actual human players is new and exciting to many people who have only played PvE.
Of course they want to learn. Don’t be so cynical. I started out in PvE as every character does. You create a new character in Guild Wars 2, it starts out in its storyline.
My main WvW character is story complete, map complete, 8500 achievement points, master crafter, and qualified for RP if she wanted to be. I learned WvW because I wanted to and others had patience to explain while I learned.
There was a time I didn’t know how to get registered in Mumble. Hell, there was a time I didn’t know what an upgrade was.

I think ANet is trying to increase our numbers enough to make WvW worth the trouble. We are a tiny minority in GW2 making big demands. I see the same people every day in EB, and it is a fairly small number of people.
This is to all the people kittening and whining about long queue times and those kitten ed achievement whorin’ PvEers taking up valuable spots for more pro, more deserving, more elite hardcore WvWers.
Please take a second to think for a minute about the opportunity that has been presented to the WvW gamemode and community here. Arenanet have provided us with an unprecedented influx of new players. This will rejuvinate WvW on lower tier servers like nothing before. It is now up to YOU, yes, YOU to mentor these players and ‘convert’ them into WvW players. Help them see the beauty of the finest part of the game. Teach them. ‘This is why we dont take supply from towers, these are fire fields and these are the skills you need to use to ’blast’ them.’ Dont berate them in mapchat for grinding camp guards doing JPs etc etc.
Suffer the lag for now. Suffer the huge queues for now. Once everything dies down in a week or two it will all be worth it. I guarantee every server will have a noticably larger WvW playerbase after this league. The key will be which servers that gain the most.
this
Many of the new players want to learn just like we did when we started. People are afraid to ask questions so we should volunteer basic info in chat more. Spell it out. Not just shout angry “Don’t take supply!!” say “Don’t take supply from an objective that is being upgraded.” Not shout “DO NOT PV DOOR THIS TIME!” say “Wait for the commander to tell us when to attack the gate so orange swords only show on the map when we are ready for the enemy to know we are here.” etc
I think one of the problems we have with WvW is that there are not many regular players compared to PvE, so ANet does not give WvW high priority. I would guess there are more people you have never seen before standing around Lion’s Arch on any given day than in one of the WvW maps. (Definitely more commanders in Lion’s Arch than WvW.) I hope increasing the number of players will help WvW get more attention from ANet.
Hi Nanyetah,
Unfortunately our guild, Just Us Grownups [JUGs] isn’t on Tarnished Coast. I realize that you’re looking for a guild on that server but I thought I’d bring our guild to your attention anyway so that you’d have options if things don’t pan out with TC.
You’d be more than welcome to Guest on our server for as long as you’d like and there would be no pressure for you to transfer if you don’t want to; the only real drawback to this is that you would be excluded from running with our guild in WvW events unless you were to transfer.
I’m telling you about our guild not for the sake of shameless recruiting but because I think you and your better-half would fit in rather well in our guild: we have quite a few married couples in our guild already; the mature, adult environment is a safe-haven for both men and women; and casual and middle-sized is a good definition for our guild.
About us:
Just Us Grown ups [JUGs] is a very friendly, drama-free guild which is comprised of people 30 yr.s old and older (our min. age is 25).
We are on the Jade Quarry server which is one of the three top-ranked servers for WvW. It’s also a high population PvE server and players from all other servers come to ours to participate in it’s events.
We have an even mix of male and female players and welcome both new and veteran players. We place a high value on community. We have a great website and a fully upgraded guild of over 100 members.
Here is our recruiting post on these forums.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a PM and, regardless if it’s with us, we wish you all the best in finding a guild to call home.
Neksis, thank you! I will take a look at that. I need to find out what we would lose by transferring to another server.
Not one of the recruiting officers for our guild, but saw your post. Vanquish is a Tarnished Coast guild with about 100 members. Membership essential is lack of drama. We are a casual mature guild which may fit your needs, with many experienced members. I want to encourage you to look at our website and submit an application.

Your above self description fits many of our new members.
Sincerely, Hobgoblin
Hobgoblin, I talked with Oakos. He said the guild was not very interested in WvW and did not organize havoc. He seemed unwilling to allow guild members to play WvW on their own with other guilds as well. Vanquish seems like a good fit for us in many ways except that we play WvW.
I was disappointed when GW2 did not have a monk class. I looked at both guardian and ele closely before the beta trying to decide which I would bring up. Now I’m happier with my ele’s even though they are not as strong as my guardian. The ele’s have to be smarter and sneakier to succeed. They have to plan and combine skills. They don’t just bash things head on.
The problem with guardians is their clothes are ugly.
1) Enable multiple commanders by differentiating tags. This will increase the complexity of strategy and reduce the size of zergs by splitting them up.
2) Score EB separately from the borderlands so that scores better reflect performance rather than simply the number of people on the server playing WvW.
Tarnished Coast married couple lvl 80 looking for casual mid-sized guild to join for dungeons, fractals, PvE events. We spend about half our game time in WvW and would enjoy a guild that does havoc squads especially in EB.
Multiple color or otherwise distinguishable commander tags
Without question a warm welcoming feature that hopefully would not take much development effort.
Andomon, I’m thinking it would enable multiple commanders on the field, focusing and coordinating different aspects of the battles. It would introduce creative new strategies and reduce the size of the zergs.
yes! buff ele damage : )
Multiple color or otherwise distinguishable commander tags
Q: re free kill. Is it true or not that if an ele goes into mistform when downed, killer gets no WxP?
Maybe Anet started out with too many choices of servers. We might need a lot more people playing the game to fill up the lower population servers.
wait, we will have GvG at the jump puzzle in EB? wow, better make some popcorn
Also ele will be expected to use water/healing in WvW. Ele is a support role in WvW. You are supposed to stick with the cmd or sentry a tower.
You can drop water fields in any spec. That said, any ele expecting to do loads of damage in wvw is either going to be a., disappointed, or b., so squishy that he becomes a liability for his team.
Yeah but his requirement was big crits, eles are better than necros for that.
Just sayin, what an ele hears from cmd is “static!” “water fields!!”
Crit has nothing to do with that.
My WvW ele is all about healing and support. I run 20 water because I need the falling damage protection for all the jumping off cliffs and 30 arcana because you need to recharge your attunements as fast as possible. The skills that trigger when you dodge with 30 arcana stack boons too.
(edited by Nanyetah Elohi.4852)
being squishy means you have to be smarter which is not a liablility to the team.

There is also a problem with color choices with hair accessories. Why are we so limited in color choices? It would be nice to match our armor a little more closely.
There is a problem with the Asura female rolled braids. The braids get stretched in a wierd way when she goes into combat and her ears go up.
I bet that would not be very popular with the regular WvW crowd. A lot of negative things are said about the PvE that is already there.
These people are fun to kill, precisely because they think so highly of themselves.
Gained two ranks on both yer kittens today even though I was at work.
These two T1 teams are not fresh. They are bored with themselves.
It is fun killing these things, btw. All the praise they get makes killing them tasty.
special sauce!
BG is kindof blackened and tired, honestly. They really don’t seem to care about the game, only the score, which is sort of meaningless, so their game is meaningless. SoR is seems to be more rabbid, but they die like anything else. They screw up. Anybody with a little organization (and numbers!!) can take them out.
(edited by Nanyetah Elohi.4852)
Scoring now measures mostly the number of people on a particular server. That info isn’t very interesting to the players except as a deterrant. Like, don’t go there.
I’ve seen defense work pretty well. I would say with siege one person can handle 2 – 4 easily.
…how many times have you heard someone say “which commander do I follow?”
There is that issue with the commander tag again. I wonder if simply being able to tell one commander from another at a quick glance would make it easier to divide the blobs into multiple smaller groups.
Three groups of 20 might actually hit harder than one group of 60.
