Coverage wins. Always. There’s no talent involved when it comes to ppt.
The population imbalance is a myth most of the time. Even on the high population servers, players and guilds drift in and out. There is massive downtime. What is working is players jumping in at the last minute, on demand. That is talent.
fights matter. What we want is fights. You can’t tell how well you are doing unless your opponents fight back. I want to totally stomp you. I want to prove I am better at this game than you are.
One of our best commanders is surprisingly critical of bringing any class other than guardian, warrior, ele or necro into a zerg fight. Once in a while he will ask for a Mesmer veil or portal knowing there will be a few mesmers around anyway. He swears the mechanics or ‘meta’ of wvw makes the other classes so much less useful you would be better off just leveling something else.
Most of the success of Tarnished Coast in WvW during the last two years has been due to improved play and leadership. Guilds and players have transferred to TC because TC was already winning. People want to play on winning teams.
I’ve spent an awful lot of time in WvW during the last 18 months and have seen this happen.
One of the things you notice about the best commanders on our server is that they do play when few others are on. It’s kind of like the best managers on a job – they lead by example by doing the work that needs to be done. You see them by themselves scouting and running upgrades. When they get ready to tag, they stand near a waypoint, tell people to rally in map chat and a crowd forms around them.
This works with commanders who have never appeared on the server before and that almost no one knows. We’ve seen it several times with all the transfers in the last few months. A completely unknown commander who speaks and acts with authority can build a zerg in a matter of minutes out of whoever is there, skilled players or not.
If you can command, go to one of the lower tier servers.\
Or even if you have the patience to sentry and upgrade your third.
TC has a lot of commanders right now. Not sure they all agree on everything.
We have no ele commanders on TC.
We do have some outstanding eles. They just very rarely command, only tag for a few minutes in emergencies.
WvW markets itself on YouTube. ANet doesn’t need to pay for it.
Not sure since my interest is prejudiced, but aren’t most of the GW2 videos on YouTube about WvW?
(edited by Nanyetah Elohi.4852)
hope that is not on my server. get back on yer staff and serve some water, duh
not. why would anyone use ele for commander.
Hello from T1. What makes us T1 is our commanders.
followers are good, but you need leaders.
Active servers did not happen by accident. They happened by design, by talented players.
If you have no talent, don’t blame your opponents.
I need to get a guardian ready for wvw. I have a lvl 80 with exotic gear but only know greatsword.
They can spend a week developing XYZ content for WvW that will be purchased by a small number of players or spend that same time developing XYZ content for PvE where an order of magnitude number of players will buy it.
They know how to monetize their game and I am guessing if WvW fell completely off ANet would hardly notice.
WvW is so distinctive and dramatic. Big zerg fights look very cool and unlike anything else in the game. It’s hard to imagine ANet would not miss something that makes the game look that good on video.
I spend money in WvW on siege, upgrades and equipment. More options for all of those would be nice.
One thing I would really like to upgrade is the npc’s. I would like to make them a lot tougher and more numerous. I would pay for npc’s that are twice as hard to kill and who fire siege.

If there are WvW guilds on your server, check them out. It’s always easier to get help from people in your guild. They will want to help you.
: ) Well, you guys need to show up more or keep losing.
Commanders are what make T1 a fun challenge. Those are individuals.
how many ways can you get your kitten pounded into the mud at Golanta?
Depends, but I would think at least … 250
It is really fun to win a fight in WvW. It is even more fun to beat a larger force. It’s an addictive rush.
When your leader knows exactly what to do to make that happen, it is so fun. It’s a blast to play your part, to help, to make it happen.
You run and run, win and win.
I am pretty sure some could. Some of our top commanders on T1 servers have a lot of skill. They don’t arrive alone. They come with a trained, coordinated guild.
But even alone, I am confident some of these guys could raise a team in a matter of days.
It is the commanders who make WvW work.
you would think players would be looking for a challenge. Just try to beat my server. Try to take my little squish ele out before she reks you.
The majority of people complaining about WvW sound like they are not very good at that part of the game. My toons would be happy to kill yours.
I’m a lot better player than I was a year ago. Take that into account before you get too complacent.
Truth, if you had someone like Disco show up on your t8 server and flip all four maps several times in a couple of days, people would start showing up to play.
WvW is fun if you have someone capable of raising and commanding a zerg.
If one of the top T1 commanders arrived alone in one of your abandoned servers, within weeks you would be jammed with players.
It is the commanders who make WvW happen.
One problem may be, the most successful teams in WvW don’t need more changes. (They have plenty of changes already.) It makes sense for ANet to give the most attention to the most active WvW players.
Another problem would be designing the maps based on how the best teams are playing WvW. Non-trivial work for what may be a smaller population of players.
ANet is probably more focused on getting new players into the game during the holidays than changing WvW.
How long has it been since anyone changed the standard chess board? Has to have been a few decades.
Those red and black squares are so boring. The pieces never change.
it’s really funny, too. If they don’t have anyone ready to tag up in place of their dead commander – chickens without heads, make soup and tacos and stuff.
Yeah, I would go to work every day making a game not fun on purpose.
Anyone who says TC is ktrain is simply not in voice communications and not playing the game right. They don’t know what they are talking about.
If you run with a TC commander without listening to voice comms, you are going to get used like an npc. That may feel like ktrain, or it may feel like the commander just got you killed on purpose, for some reason.
Or maybe, the whole zerg just disappeared into thin air.

also, JQ and BG need some help against TC.
I thought PvP was good for WvW since it improves player skill.
TC has become pretty open to newcomers. As someone who has been on Tarnished Coast from the start, seeing guilds move between servers felt disloyal at first. Last year it was pretty high drama when a major guild left for a rival server.
But since the tournaments this year, the influx of new guilds has been fun. It’s fun to get to know new people. It doesn’t seem strange to see a new guild group pop a tag any more.
Obviously more people have more fun in EotM than in WvW, that’s why there are there.
…It’s more attractive than WvW …
WvW is a lot more work. It takes far more skill and patience. Some people like a challenge and some don’t.
I know many people who can’t stand EotM, myself included. I don’t think it is fun at all. It’s pure grind. I do it watching the clock to farm materials for ascended gear. I can’t stand more than an hour of it once every couple of weeks.
Do you know where to place a treb in SMC to break down a wall at Ogrewatch? Only a few people do. You would not want to move any of that.
the maps seem boring if you are there for the scenery. But the maps are a game board well understood by the best players. You could create a new board and game, but might not want to yank the board out from under the best players in the middle of their competition.
map specific supply would not work for T1.
Meta, if that’s the right word, for T1 is all maps at once. All four maps are one.
Best idea I have heard yet is just crank up the rewards to get more people playing.
respects and condolences. Very kind of you to let his friends know.
I’m happy to be a much more kick kitten player than I used to be.
It is fun to play better. My team needs some worthy opponents.
fun for everyone!
I keep thinking snowball fight. must be the season.

I was using static and fire fields.
I arrive at the end of my jump with a blast and a boon, barely damaged.
I guess if the guardians and warriors are going to crash, I should go with water attunement and a healing blast?

You can fall off of stuff and die in PvE, too. One of the first things I did in GW2 was fall through the middle of Rata Sum to my death.
I think you really should bring enough armor or something to WvW that you don’t die on the stairs of any of the structures. Otherwise, you must be rally bait.
cant tell if trolling but, falling damage is definitely a % of your HP. How much armor you have is irrelevant to gravity.
not trolling, I just don’t take a lot of falling damage on my main. Had no idea anyone could kill themselves tripping down the stairs at Anzalias. No idea.
It seems stupid to take a character into WvW who can’t survive the usual jumps. The borderlands are way worse than EB or the stairs at Anzalias.
You will arrive in battle seriously injured over and over if you can’t take falling damage.
tier playstyle? alive?
WvW is interesting.
Man the elitism is off the charts in this thread with some people. Despite what people on BG seem to think, there haven’t been rotating push weeks since the period between season 1 and season 2. JQ gave them up because we realized we have no on or off switch since we’re always out there playing. What there have been are weeks where one server pushes, the other two play like always, and then the next week that server doesn’t push and the other two still play the same game and it looks like the other two are doing pushes.
TC is winning recently.
you should log in
TC is kind of pushy right now, but we always hope JQ and BG come out to play.
There are new people in TC, interest in PvP in our WvW guilds, we are looking for a challenge.

One thing T1 has become good for is refining the type of play we do as large groups of players in this game. You learn something about how to play your classes and your characters in coordination with a group playing this hard.
As T1 guilds and commanders migrate to lower tier servers, you’ll see a difference.
