I didn’t mean go beat the crap out of mendons right now. Wait until I get it ready.
Mendons is out of the way and ignored for long periods of time, so it can upgrade with a little help reflipping speldens. Mendons only needs to be tier 2 upgraded, if that, to be a lot of fun. Mendons needs three trebs and 5 sup acs. The trebs probably should be sup also.

Well, BG is showing us we can play a much stronger team if we are very smart with supply, siege and communications. You use a partially upgraded tower with a lot of supply in it as bait you can defend and run back to for regeneration. Make sure to put some trebs in it and lots of acs. If the stronger team is a long way from their waypoints and you are close to yours, you can fight them for hours.
Mendons is fantastic for this kind of stuff. Really interesting landscape in a remote tower most servers think is indefensible, so they won’t give up. Bag farm.

I hope they didn’t join us in some of the transferred guilds, leaving TC to explain we didn’t know anything about it.
I kind of wanted to hear someone in BG deny that those guys were part of their organization. I wanted to hear someone say they were pretty much jerks operating on their own. The siege trolls and spies are definitely jerks.
Yes, the double team was awful. Everyone I talked to on TC hated it.
I doubt TC has spies, to tell the truth, unless it is a newly transferred guild, and there have been some, including from BG. TC is pretty disgusted by the spies. Would surprise me if any of the long timers would do that.
[we are always wondering where the other zerg is, for one thing. If we have spies, they are not very good.]
BG does a great job with WvW. The one black eye for Blackgate is they got a reputation for cheating, earned or not. Whether the siege trolls were working on their own or being paid by BG guilds as rumored, they managed to make BG look bad.
The best TC commanders are using a strategy that moves around all four maps very rapidly. We risk losing zerg members to queues and lost communications, but have gotten better at catching up. Maybe it is one of the few things we are doing ok.
LOL. It is really funny to hear a BG player say BG does not have near the numbers of TC and JQ. On TC, our most popular excuse for everything BG accomplishes is that BG outnumbers us on all maps all the time. Our second most popular is that BG uses spies and siege trolls to win.
It is actually rare that TC has many people in WvW. We try to cover all four maps at once without letting all these BG spies know where we are going.
Doesn’t matter. These three teams are used to fighting each other with BG winning every time. Been doing it for months and will probably keep doing it for months. We are adapting our gameplay to accommodate BG’s dominance and getting in some good fights.
I have really admired whoever is running Blackgate’s supply strategy, btw. Way beyond anything anyone can talk TC into doing. I think a few of us are independently starting to wake up to how to control and ration supply based on what people say in map chat, but it is far from any organized method.
TC is extremely dependent on their commanders. The dozen or so notable commanders are all game changers. If one of them is on, we play, if none of them is on, we stand around.
The best commander in TC is in my opinion a guy who lives in Northern England. He understands both open field and back/line defense, has a very good grasp of topography of all the maps. Most of the commanders, even the good ones, only know open field fighting and seem to make things up on the fly.
TC has plenty of room for improvement. You definitely would notice it against tier 1 competition.
TC uses Mumble for WvW which suddenly stopped working about a week ago on my system following updates or something. Nothing I have tried has fixed it. You would want to make sure the server you move to has voice comms you can use.
I like siege disabler. I think they are nearly as effective as a door treb that takes 10x supply if you have a zerg to back you up.
OK. Are you guys mostly in Brazil? I think I met you earlier.
also, I don’t seem to be getting killed faster at soldiers ascended armor than clerics exotic.
like 100% of squat is still squat.
442 healing seems weak.
Also, some have argued that healing power doesn’t amount to squat since the multiplier (coefficient) is so low.
you hear moms in teamspeak/mumble with the kids shouting in the background. You hear guys talking like they are supposed to with women in the room.
This seems to be a good game. For one thing, women are welcome here. There are a lot of guys wearing female avatars too, but there are a lot of actual female people playing this game also. It doesn’t offend us.
You really need a guild to play this game, but I wish the process of finding one that fits was not so awkward and weird. I have joined three guilds here that fizzled. The leaders just what evered. wtkitten.
I have enough RP and magic in my soul to want to stay on Tarnished Coast. I picked that world for my reasons, and I’m staying with them.
My main characters are lvl 80 eles with exotic-ascended gear. I love WvW (EotM not so much). I play about 20 hrs per week. I wish I could join a guild big enough to get help learning dungeons. I am not very good at jumping puzzles. I am a 500 lvl crafter. I have credit cards and I use them for GW2 sometimes. I’m literate, a little sarcastic. I’m immune to drama. (I’ve been married more than 25 years.)
I’m still traited 0,0,2,6,6 with aquatic benevolence and I have a clerics staff I can swap in that boosts my healing power by up to 350. But I am really enjoying being able to hit much harder. No longer playing a medic, new ascended armor, new job description.
My guild on TC fell apart and I need a new one.
I am a medium-skilled level 80 ele with ascended gear, mature person who plays 10+ hours per week, easy to get along with. I spend quite a bit of my gaming time in WvW and may want to rep a WvW guild for some raids. I am interested in joining a guild that is large enough to not mind helping me learn dungeons and play through some of the PvE content that is difficult for a solo player. I’m interested at getting as good at the game as I can get. I’ve made it through about half of the jp achievements but I am not very good at jumping puzzles, so guild missions sometimes are frustrating for me. I’m a pretty good team player in general and immune to drama.
I got a lot of good information here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2aa226/wvw_staff_elementalist_walkthrough/
I’m guessing eles are using healing runes because they don’t understand the scaling coefficient any better than I did when I asked this question.
I am thinking I will make soldier’s for my first set of ascended armor. Thanks again for the input. I really appreciate the good advice, after all the time and gold it has taken me to gather materials for my ascended gear.
I’m also puzzled by the discussion of things like healing runes. Why are eles using these if healing doesn’t matter very much? Why not substitute runes with better stats?
I guess it depends on the situation. Things change pretty rapidly in a big fight. There are times when water on tag means the difference between your zerg getting wiped or not.
[Don’t know if I need to explain why I want a healing/support ele for WvW : ) It’s because I enjoy the psychological interplay of the simulated warfare. The group dynamics are interesting and intense. I like being a valued member of a team. It’s fun for me.]
What about all that stuff with healing power not scaling well and not really doing allies any good?
There is a thread in this forum that essentially argues that eles should not bother with healing power at all.
and support isn’t really affected by healing power at all
Not sure what this means. Healing is definitely part of support, and unless healing is not affected by healing power at all, support is affected by healing power.
Thanks so much for the input. I’m glad I asked.
Could you explain why healing power from water or monk runes matters to outgoing heals in WvW if healing power elsewhere has no impact?
I need to re-read this stuff, but if a high amount of healing power is not useful for an ele in WvW, why use monk runes?
You had also mentioned that eles have a lot of healing skills that scale well.
On top of that, commanders seem to really care about eles water fields, as if they are worth something to the group. Confused : (
Use it mostly in WvW with a staff. I have a Wupwup (celestial) that stacks bloodlust and a Theodosus (cleric’s) that stacks healing. I have been running with Melandru runes on my armor, but don’t think I need the extra protection any more, so want to step up to something more potent.
I don’t expect to do dungeons with this character. She does a little solo PvE, but she is mainly intended for zerg.

TC isn’t working with BG or JQ any more. The commanders talk to each other but it is mostly trash talk. I can remember only one instance in the last month when TC held their nose and coordinated slightly with JQ to pick on BG for one assault. We took one side of BG’s third and JQ took the other.
We had a guild who did this all the time. They would insult volunteers and try to drive them out of the game, even when we were outnumbered. I was so glad when they moved to another server. What a bunch of jerks.
Thank you all for the great information!
I want to maximize my ability to heal allies in big fights. I have all my materials ready to make my ascended armor. I’m trying to figure out how much increased healing power is going to matter.
My first thought would be to go with clerics armor again, but it sounds like very few eles use that.
also, people everywhere hate on thieves, You will be unwelcome sometimes.
cool thread. I would say, as someone who has a commander tag I never use, is that the commander should never get killed. Never get killed. That is not easy.
Commander should not ever get killed. Commander can port back to spawn, can criticize the entire zerg for being stupid and not in Mumble, but the commander cannot get killed.
(edited by Nanyetah Elohi.4852)
I have seen three people command as eles in WvW in the last year and a half. They usually only run for a little while, waiting for someone else to tag up. The problem with an ele commanding in WvW is that the commander should never get killed. That is pretty tough for an ele leading a zerg into melee.
Takes some patience, but the game already has mechanics for waiting out a troll like that: the annoying 60 min time out on siege. Trolls never have a lot of patience, either. They are easy to wait out.
well, you have to be careful to not fall off the bridges. So some camera and movement skill is required.
EotM doesn’t require any skill at all. Doesn’t matter what you run. Just wait until the train arrives at the station and get on. It is stupid boring simple, no skill required.
One thing I would add about WvW and eles is that if your server uses some kind of voice communication, eles must use voice comm. Even if you are a shy person who has trouble speaking up, even if your voice is weird and you cant stand the sound of it, doesn’t matter. You have to call out your water fields where the commander can hear them, or your team will suffer.
I like it like it is. I have gotten used to moving past an enemy then backup over them.
I play a staff ele in WvW. Staff eles are in high demand in WvW because of their ability to AOE heal. We are also called on for crowd control like static fields and frozen ground, and ranged attacks on siege or enemy players on tops of walls.
I’m responsible for healing and support rather than direct damage, so I’m traited 0,0,2,6,6. In WvW, you will probably want a permanent speed boost such as signet of air, and you may want to mitigate falling damage with Arcane Abatement in the Water trait line. I like Glyph of Elemental Harmony for healing because I have gotten used to the boons it gives on attunement, but doesn’t sound like many other eles use that. I like having Mist Form on my skill bar in WvW. It has saved my squishy bacon more than once. For elite, people like eles to pull out a Firey Greatsword but some commanders will ask for Tornado. Tornado is more fun in my opinion. When you see you are going to get killed no matter what, its fun to hit that 0 key with the last of your health.
I have heard this said but I don’t know what it means. The functions I have seen for skills including healing all look pretty linear.
Can someone explain how healing doesn’t “scale” well, and what it would look like if it did? Is there an example of a skill that does scale well?
Thanks
I like this update too. The new map, the exploration, brings back so much of what was fun about GW from the beginning.
so what are we doing with all these voided tickets? Are these supposed to be replaced by usable tickets at some point?
First chat option from the battle historian grants you new tickets.
Thx, just found it.
