Why Bhawb.. seriously? Why can everyone have an untargeted leap/blink but the necro. It is single handedly the reason we get trained down in team fights. I know you are experienced necro player. There is no way it will make us OP. In fact, I still do not think it is enough! Great positioning cannot overcome CC in this game. Warrior walks wherever he wants and leaps at you with ES. So you stun break spectral walk/armor and try and heal/reposition yourself. Engi drops supply crate on you so you go into DS to absorb the hits since you used your heal you can not cure the immob. You go into plague (if you even have it equipped) as your last resort. You die on the point because you can not do anything. This happens to me daily.

Both of those traits in my opinion are useless in PvE. I dont find the need for defense in PvE or stunbreaks since you will mostly be ranged and safe, so I just maximize the damage. For PvP you are correct, they are BOTH useful but obviously you have to sacrifice one for the other. Reapers Protection with terror and master of terror is obviously a beast, but it is random which I do not like. All it takes is a ranger to CC you with his longbow from 1500 range and your trait just went to waste. Foot in the Grave you can at least control when you try to anti-CC. But you are correct in that they are both subpar compared to other classes, neither is amazing or must haves but what choice do we have lol. Reapers Precision is trash. Especially in your build which does not have 50% crit chance. It simply is not worth it. Curses has our best traits. Weakening Shroud-Terror-PoC/Lingering is pretty much the best possible combination for a Condi build, which obviously you are. BUT, the one thing I tell everyone when making new builds “test all the traits” what works for me and pretty much every other necro may not be your style.

Yea that was a dumb comment LOL. Ranger in general wont be able to disengage and roam properly like Thief/Warr/Mes but you can roam. My thing is in small encounters I believe condi/tank setups with 2/0/6/6/0 is the best way to go. Does that mean you can not roam power Ranger and longbow.. obviously you can. But again with your not so amazing condi removal and sub-2500 armor… once that 1v1 turns into a 1v2 you are pretty much insta-gibbed. What server are you on? I can duel you with my necro to show you that you do not have sufficient condi-removal. Take it from me since roaming is all I do on 5 classes Ranger/Thief/Warr/Necro/Mes. The only classes that can reliably roam for hours with no deaths are Thief/Warr/Mes. That is not because they are OP. It is because they have reliable disengages and stealth. Happy Hunting!

The last build you posted is nice it should work. I use something similar in PvP myself. For WvWvW you wana focus on Settler/Apothecary equipment maximizing tankiness condition damage as well as healing through regen and TU

The biggest thing for me is that every class has a “gimme a sec to breathe for a little bit” type of skill.. necro lacks it. Closest thing IMO for a necro is a well placed flesh wurm that needs prep and is too kitten slow to truly be active. Necro NEEDS a mobility skill… period. The idea that we can’t be mobile is something that needs to be let go. Obviously we will never be as mobile as a mesmer or thief or ranger with evades and blocks etc. I have ALWAYS felt dark path as ground targetable dark “ride the lightning” would solve EVERYTHING. Getting focused? Deathshroud, eat some hits then ground target to a safe area via dark path, heal, re-position, rejoin the fight – in gw2 PvP – THAT is the definition of sustain.
Guardian getting focused? Blocks invuln boonspam un-interruptable heal – HUGE PROBLEM for necro.. how many times does CC get rupted – sigh
Warrior getting focused? who focuses Warrior in a team fight? They have so many blocks invuln leaps stances etc etc
Thief getting focused? Stealth shadowstep evade lol nice try
Mesmer getting focused? Stealth evade clones lol who focuses a mesmer
Ele getting focused? Water attunement vapor form RtL Arcane shield etc etc.
Engi getting focused? lol who focuses engi but again they have shield block ridiculous turret heal supply crate and countless knockback blowouts that make focusing them a real pain
Even the lowly ranger has evades and a few blocks as well as nice leaps on the sword and gs to disengage

EVERYONE has mobility skills but us. It is time my friends to petition to Anet to let go of this old mantra that necro must not be mobile. Until we can disengage and peel for ourselves this problem wont go away. Playing a necro in high level tPvP is a question of how fast will you get focused and murdered in a team fight. I simply gave up. I love the necro and still bring him out in WvWvW to melt people in seconds with my condis and fears but this class is so one-dimensional. The attrition class has become the one trick pony burst class. Sadly these days I play all of my other characters in PvP to much greater success. Necro right now is hotjoin and solo q hero. Organized tPvP necro has no place

Another thing.. where the heck is shadow refuge!? If you are going to solo roam you pretty much mandatory need it. When you get jumped by a 15man zerg and you have no stealth in your weapon set you can at least rely on that. I do not like RFI so I would replace that

Go with vigorous recovery instead of assassins reward which is horrible – low cd heal in withdraw gives you perma-vigor uptime with bountiful theft.. it also synergizes well with power of inertia and maintaining high stacks of might. Everything else is perfectly fine. What you will notice in WvWvW facing a high condition pressure opponent like a necro or engi or perplex thief and not having 30 in shadow arts with embrace and rejuv means you die. You simply lack condi removal over a long period fight. 1 with sword.. 3 with shadow step.. 1 with signet… simply not enough. BUT you can kill most other specs with this build… have fun!

Pretty standard build but your curses traits are not right. Take weakening shroud, terror, and lingering curses for pve and path of corruption for wvw/pvp. Dhuumfire is not even good anymore… The 4 points in death can easily be substituted in blood also so play around with what you like. Reapers Protection is a fine trait… but not really in PvE its good against other players whom always will look to stun a necro. Furthermore in WvW/PvP you can put only 2 in Death and the last 2 in Soul Reaping so you can get Foot in the Grave. But yea.. you get the idea… 6 in curses and 4 in soul reaping for terror/master of terror/path of corruption/lingering curses.. the rest is up to you based on your play style.

Edit. Skills weapons and armor/trinkets all look fine. Healing power doesn’t really work on necro you can change the apoth trinkets for rabid/dire

My necro was sylvari. Can’t say the story felt very necromancerish but Treaherne is a necro? I think.. he does summon a bunch of golems one time. Also as the sylvari story line you end up fighting more undead than any other story line.. I think anyway. Necromancer in this game doesn’t feel like master of death and such. Feels like a carebear version. Besides Orr I didnt feel very necromancerish while leveling up. Someone else probably has a better opinion it has been a very long time since I did the story…

Try that. It is tankier with perma regen through natures voice and two shouts. Two stunbreakers. Sword for mobility and evades also makes you tankier and empathetic bond is all you need for clearing condis. Apothecary or Settlers gear will make this a beast. If you want to keep offhand torch I recommend balthazar runes to give it more punch. It is what I use in WvWvW. Very effective!

I like the first one better, gives you nice perma regen and uses the new trait for good dmg from max distance. I think you can beat power warrs and thieves with this setup. Your biggest weakness will be conditions, necro engi or thief will eat you alive. Healing spring/signet of renewal wont be enough on their own. You can consider survival of the fittest new trait but then you lose sustain from guard/natures voice and the perma regen. Tough choices but maybe stick with what you have in first build and just add melandru runes, you could use the toughness too, 2.3k armor is pretty low.

Ranger, Spirit/Tank Regen – Can also play MM necro or condi/terror setups very well but given you already have two roamer/squishies I think my ranger tank setup would compliment you guys well. I am also on EST and play around the same time. Ill be on tonight shoot me a PM

Finished that makes complete sense and made me suspect 12 was correct; However, I just tested it in the mists and it ticked 14 times with balth runes and 10% condi duration from traits. With no balth runes and 10% condi duration it ticked 10 times… will continue testing but I do not have smoldering sigil or anything else increasing my duration.

I figured the damage had to increase somehow BUT.. is it 12 seconds of burning? 8 stacks? The skill confuses me since it says 1 second duration and 8 stacks by default. Is the stacking limit not 5 on duration conditions like burn/immob. I will have to test this in the mists tonight. Will reply with my findings

Makes sense that it would be a tooltip error given that throw torch does in fact increase in duration and dmg

Either the tooltip is incorrect or it does not augment the skill. The burning duration goes from 1 to 1.5 sec but the dmg does not increase. In fact, equiping undead runes as opposed to balthazar shows more dmg for bonfire but 1 sec duration. Has anyone tested this? I would love to but I am at work and basing it all off of the build editor.
