The following skills and utilities will guarantee victory! Not really you actually have to play well but this is one of the easier matchups for condi necro IMO

Deathly Swarm – Putrid Mark – Plague Signet – Well of Power

Well of Power for when he is in stealth and you gotta get the confusion off

Plague Signet is instant and a stun break – use it after basilik venom/sneak attack/steal

I save my other transfers when I get them in a fear chain for extra bursties!

Since I run perplexity runes you can get 16 stacks of confusion on the Thief for extra lulz

What does viable mean?

Where does it matter if something is “viable” tPvP solo q hot join?

If it has never appeared in a tournament before is it not viable? example Survival Ranger or Medi guard with bunker guard falling out of favor – until recently Necromancer was not viable but a few high level players have started to play it in tournaments

1. No problem with adrenaline decay being slower – I think you need to make a more concrete argument why it should be 5 sec and not 10 or change the decay rate etc

2. No problems with this either but its obviously not an easy fix that is probably going to happen anytime soon

3. NO – that is the purpose of berserkers power – more damage for not using your burst skills – if it had no trade-off than what is the point? Think of it from a PvP stand point

4. Sure why not off-hand axe definitely needs some love – I think axe #5 should reflect projectiles would be nice in pvp

5. While I do not have a problem with this as any competent pvp player will not get hit by all of the channel of hundred blades I simply question the purpose of this buff – greatsword in general is one of the strongest dps weapons in the game and adding more damage seems unwarranted especially after the overall buff it received in a hard hitting burst skill

While I do not have a convincing argument against any of your points you do not make ANY convincing arguments for your points besides the fact that “warrior is broken” which it really isn’t – balancing for pve seems likely to never occur either but goodluck

That build you posted is absolute trash and would only be good at trolling with no damage – Quick Recovery and Patience have been garbage since the inception of the game and no thief uses them

Your suggestions would break the class – Can not be taken seriously at all its obvious you just started playing the game with those suggestions

2+ years later and people still think Anet is going to make drastic changes to stealth – learn to play!

Fighting Mesmers

S/D + Sbow is the unparalleled mesmer killer – evades/ports to get away from shatters + much cleave on both sets makes sure those pesky phatasms/clones die while mesmer takes damage too + cloak and dagger is OP against mesmers

D/P is not as easy a good mesmer wont let you bp+hs close to them as they have stuns and the push back from greatsword

P/D is pretty good at taking out mesmers without condi cleanse too – cnd off clones and pew pew from range

Always pressure the mesmer while he has the GS or sword not when he has staff
In conclusion cloak and dagger off of clones/phantasms until you are ready to unleash that burst you gotta be patient but aggressive at the same time if they get 3 phantasms and clones up its time to reset – always save shadow step for a long daze and save withdraw for the sword immob if they use it

I would guess Strength runes since you carry blood is power for more might stacking

4 in curses since you get fury on DS with spectral attunement? not too sure

4 in soul reaping since you get the auto spectral armor with soul marks/spectral mastery

Probably carrion armor with zerker trinkets

I have run similar builds I think the weakness is damage – super bunkers will out last you as well as condition management – It is easy to overload you when you only have your heal and staff #4 to deal with condis – is still a fun build

While this happens often and I can attest to it myself as I play solo Q way more than I should I think I am at 2k games now lol

It just is not really proof it is just one instance – even though it happens often and the more you play the more you see it

Here is the problem – new players are constantly rotating into pvp and most do NOT stick around
They get roflstomped and quit – they constantly get 4v5 and quit – cheese/meta makes them quit too

In the end there are constant rabbits circulating into and out of solo q with only a few of us veterans still playing solo q – most are forming teams and going to team q now – esports

Solo Q needs a few things to fix it – eliminate 4v5 by having a “ready up” button and then we eliminate the leaderboards and create a hidden MMR which probably does not work anyway

New Leaderboard for team q is by TEAM only and we eliminate this individual rank garbage – reset leader board every 3 months – profit

This is the issue IMO

CC is highly overrated IMO

I have always felt it should heal more or be 20 seconds – the hp/s seems too low for our massive health pool
The functionality of curing all conditions on a class with a ton of transfers and condition management feels unneccesary – especially since that is probably the reason the cast time is so kitten ridiculous

I have always felt Necromancer should have received something like healing signet
Our other heals need to be buffed badly

Name three healing skills you would rather have – Withdraw/Troll Ungent/Healing Signet

I would put two points in SA and grab Shadows Embrace

You can then carry Shadow Refuge for a semi full condi clear
Hide in Shadows will clear lots of condis as well as the damaging ones
You have access to stealth by laying down a black powder and blasting it with your shortbow which should be your offhand set

30-40 FPS is unplayable? I think that is a bit of an exaggeration

Ask for a refund if you want but the game is great and it still is 5-stars regardless of it not being optimized with your cpu

I run an i5 with an inferior video card to you and get about 30-40 fps… good enough for me

Um. Clearly you are pvping people who barely know how to pvp and probably most likely sticks to karma trains. And you just happened to catch them on their way to the zerg train. This guy is so bad. I saw him being toxic in a hot join room today while experimenting with a new guard I just made. He was talking smack to a bunch of new players. I felt bad for them and challenged him and his friend to 2 v 1 my main. He wussed out. So clearly, OP is a baddie.

Shadow arts does not need to be removed.

What it does need is to have it’s shift focused from “Sit in stealth for benefits” to “Engage in combat for benefits”.

At the moment, many SA traits give alot of incentive to sit in stealth for their benefits, regardless whether or not the current situation calls for sitting in stealth. That needs to change, and can be done easily.

Shadow’s Embrace – changed to “Remove 1 condition when you enter stealth. Remove 1 condition when you gain revealed.” Now an SA thief will mitigate conditions by staying in combat and weaving in and out of stealth, not by jumping into stealth and just sitting there.

Patience – I’ll be honest, I don’t have a great suggestion for this one, but it also need to change. Perhaps something along the lines of “All CD’s tick 20% faster while revealed”, or something of the like.

Shadow Rejuvenation – changed to “Heal X when you enter stealth. Heal Y health per second while revealed”. Again, now a thief is healing by weaving in and out of stealth and fighting his opponent instead of by just sitting in stealth doing nothing. X and Y will obviously need to be playtested, since being healed while revealed is more powerful than healing while in stealth.

Resilience of shadow – Stealth effects you apply reduce incoming damage (30%). When you (and only you, not others) are revealed, reduce incoming damage by 15%.
This is one of the traits that may not need to change at all, but here is a suggestion nonetheless.

There you go – you now how an SA tree that’s useful in PvP and not annoying in WvW.

This is much better and constructive suggestion than delete SA it’s for baddies

The overall point I would like to make is that it is generally not used in 2/3 game modes so deleting it seems ridiculous if your argument is that it is overpowered which it is not since many other classes can trait for equal if not greater sustain than full shadow arts

Making shadow arts give benefits while revealed instead of while stealthed is a good way to make this trait line viable in ALL game modes which should be the goal

Shadow arts is not a defensive mechanic, its a mechanic for baddies who cant play the game. Thief’s defense mechanics are blind, stealth and evades.

I was going to edit my previous post but I’ll just a make new comment.

I think the falling damage nerf, and the negating of damage wasn’t a huge deal to be honest. It was pretty bad, but I personally didn’t find it too useful, and I rely on Deathshroud a LOT. That doesn’t mean they weren’t big nerfs for some people who utilized it often, but I just don’t think they as important for our sustain and fluidity of gameplay. The damage-soak would be very good in PvE, though, to absorb a strong boss attack. I don’t wanna debate that though.

As for this current (intended or unintended) nerf – self-interrupting when exiting Deathshroud. Think of it this way. It is like an Elementalist interrupting their own skills/actions/stomping/ressing when swapping attunements, Mesmers interrupting themselves when using a shatter skill, Engis interrupting their casting when using certain tool-belt skills, Guardians interrupting themselves when using Virtues, or Rangers interrupting themselves when using pet skills. It’s silly.

I think what would be appropriate is if they make all cast times able to finish even when you ENTER Deathshroud, and when you leave it as well. That would make the mechanic nicely fluid and would raise the skill cap, imo. (For example, casting Enfeebling Blood or Spinal Shivers, even Locust Swarm, and as you cast it, enter Deathshroud. If you have Deathly Perception, this would allow for some interesting skill combos.) Or if you have the trait Weakening Shroud. If you are blinded, you could cast Spinal Shivers, enter deathshroud so the mini-Enfeeble Blood removes your blind, and the Spinal Shivers goes off nicely. Wouldn’t that make more sense? And allow for some interesting combos?

Obviously it would be nice!

Synergy/Combos with the Necro class have always been lacking

In the end I think Anet is unsure of how to properly code DS after every patch we seem to have a new effect/interaction with DS which in turn makes Anet pay less attention to it because it seems like a headache for them

DS is lacking in many intricate combos that you can do with for example steal on a thief – I want weapon switching back in DS for example

But yeah Anet hasn’t made sense when it comes to DS and Necros for a long time if ever

I’m sorry but WTF is going on here!?

This skill is not broken… it obviously fails from time to time but are we acting like this skill NEVER lands? It lands for me way more than 50% of the time

Lag/Connectivity/Terrain issues are the main culprit for this skill not landing they need to change the animation to be more of a leap instead of a dash – I bet it lands way more often this way like sword #2 does

But seriously.. stop the BS I only play warrior with GS and Bulls Charge – I literally never play warrior without it and I do pretty well

Pro Tip : Use the skill within 3-600 units and it lands

- Shatter Mesmers are one the best in normal 1v1 (offpoint)
- Shatter Mesmers are the worst for 1v1 (on point)
- Shatter Mesmers have little to no condi cleanse (poison and one other damaging condi is enough; only need a bit of time)
- Shatter Mesmer mobility is not as strong (without frwd PR), therefore current meta forces them taking Rune of the Traveler.
- Shatter Mesmer has HUGE responsebility, both in using Elite (Moa or Mass Invis), calling out portals and burst coordination. (EG Thief/Mesmer comp)
- Shatter Mesmer has lowest error margin through all meta-builds.
- Shatter Mesmer is easily to be countered and focused upon.
- Shatter Mesmer can turn tide in teamfights.

Conclusion: Playing Shatter Mesmer decently demands skill. While some other meta builds only ask for little knowledge. I do not think Shatter Mesmer should be nerfed.

Points given above are thoughts and experiences from Team Arena.
I barely play Shatter Mesmer, but I do respect good Shatter Mesmers.

All in all, Shatter Mesmer in Team Arena is a high risk = high reward spec.

But lets all not act like in an open field duel off point a shatter mesmer isn’t one of the best specs in game – it has all the tools to avoid damage/conditions

The ability to kite with a shatter mesmer is pretty insane – a warrior will literally not land a single hit using a melee weapon set

If we ever get team death match it will be hilarious when we see how broken stealth and kiting is – Thief and Mesmer are thankfully held back because of capture points

DS = 5 crapp skills and 0 utility skills, no DS =10 skills which u can change depending on which weapons u equip and u keep your 5 utility skills. Id say based on those stats id choose no DS every time.

Considering you use a MM build with Apothecary gear in PvE I think we can all ignore your opinions

Doom is literally the best skill in the entire Necromancer kit – You can trait it for damage it has a low cooldown 20/17 seconds traited but here is the best part – It is instant cast! You can use it while stunned!

I’m slowly going through and testing the minions. So far my conclusion is that they don’t do that much damage and they don’t attack that reliably.

So basically I’m wondering about a build that has them but pretty much ignores the minions.

On one hand, it’s really painful to think of having a bunch of utility slots that are not really optimized. On the other hand, if you think about being in death shroud as much as possible, maybe you can make a build where the utility slots just aren’t that important?

That is basically it… if you want to do damage you do not bring minions as utilities – the minions do not get any of your stats so that is why people normally build tanky

Either go all in on minions or only use the exploding ones and fleshie – wells are good in large scale fights like WvW

Take some points out of Death Magic throw it in Spite for more dmg and grab well of suffering and maybe blood is power

Spawn camping is more of a WvW thing…

If you are getting spawn camped in PvP your opponents must have all three capture points and winning by 200+ points – that is the only time I have really seen it happen and by then the match is essentially over

Well.. the truth is Dire/Perplexity thief is actually not OP and I regularly defeat this spec with the normal power x/6/6/x/x build

Most of the players I do defeat using this spec are just not as good as I am – given equal skill level I still would not lose to the build though – it would just be a stalemate cuz stealth and disengage

Condi Necro in a normal duel with no surprise attacks/disengages should defeat this build as well – Plague Signet/Deathly Swarm/Putrid Mark/Well of Power – Negates everything a Condi Thief can do

It is simply BACKWARDS to spend trait points to gain sustain ala bloodmagic and not have it work when you potentially need it most – eating a burst while in deathshroud
