The sticky is still relevant – Necromancers and Dungeons have not changed much from a year ago
For Dungeons and high level group instanced content you want maximum damage which that sticky will guide you – defense in gw2 is all about learning the encounters and learning when to dodge
Keep in mind Necromancers are mostly not wanted in high level PvE – We lack support for the group

Necromancer’s greatest weakness is a single stun every 60 seconds?
Even if the enemy opens with a stun like that, I find it hard to believe that is true – especially when I look at my personal experience…

Necromancers greatest weakness is a combination of bad positioning/focusfire/stun lock – which can happen more often than every 60 seconds
They are all intertwined – if you are in a bad position it usually means you are gonna get focus fired with stun/immob and burst
For those reasons Nightmare Runes/Reapers Protection/Flesh Wurm/Spectral Walk are all used in meta builds – even power builds will use worm/walk
Those skills are our best options to mitigating those weaknesses and as much as we attempt to be in great positioning at all times there are classes Thief/Mes who do not care about your positioning and WILL come get you

Well if you must know, that video is over a year old and just serves the purpose of a damage sample. I was recording on a laptop so I didn’t have my regular mouse with me which has all utilities double bound to it. Clicking some skills was a mere convenience at the time.
So I followed it up with saying that you do not pvp – can’t find you anywhere on leader boards – gw2score still shows people who were at one point in top 1000 but not anymore like myself – You should pvp if you make comments about it.

I almost wonder how much of this discussion is motivated by pvp and how much by WvW. Would make a big difference in people’s opinions, I’m sure.
This SHOULD be a PvP discussion – the OP is talking about tournaments and using metabattle website which is tPvP focused
In WvW where you can camp staff from the safety of range I can see how GM is useful and potentially better than RP
sPvP involves tiny circles which you must be near or on in order to win – so close proximity to enemies usually means you will rotate into staff and switch out you will rarely camp staff because you will rarely be safe enough to just pew pew from range with no repercussions
RP shines in these situations because as a Necro we want to be at range and safely blow people up but only a fool will allow this – Thief/Mesmer will come and get you!
Sleight of Hand/Basilik Venom get rekt by RP – that is all I need it for
It however works against pretty much everyone – opponents won’t always be prepared to counter RP like using stab or zerk stance – your opponents will always want to stun/control you
Flesh Worm is good enough against the other classes in order to re-position and heal but not against thief who will blink to you and chase you endlessly

Greater Marks improves 4 skills on 1 weapon set
Reapers Protection is always good regardless of weapons or in ds
S/D Thief and Mesmer actually are your biggest weaknesses in a team fight because they will be getting you from off the point! Who are they going to focus not the warr/ele/guard they will focus you! thief mesmer never have stability and almost always get there opener rejected because of reapers protection that is what it is for!
I do not need reapers protection to win a 1v1 this is not the discussion

Reapers Protection directly addresses the Necromancer’s greatest weakness and worst match up in a team fight – the s/d thief that comes outta nowhere is usually what gets you killed not the hambow/ele/engi – those guys are avoidable and with good positioning via worm you can escape them
You can not escape a thief or mesmer with good positioning! Read that 20 times and let it sink in!
Terror/Reapers Protection/Master of Terror/Nightmare Runes
That is SYNERGY – Necromancer has no better option for that you will notice other classes have great synergy in traits – example steal traits for thief

Plague? Flesh Worm? Spectral+DS? Die?
Only one of those has the potential to avoid death completely- plague/spectrals only delay death – a well placed worm is the best defense a necro has period
I’m not sure why you guys are making arguments against/for certain maps – its useful in every map some more than others but that’s a given with anything
I like leetos build a lot it takes practice but it is very strong
Traits – recommend getting Reapers Might and 2 Points in curses for Reapers Precision – Yes it works while you are in DS – You will be spending a lot of time lifeblasting which those two traits help with
Gear – I use strength runes and battle/strength sigils on my staff air/fire on d/d – the might stacking is pretty good – Pack runes are good too though so you can experiment with what you like most I use Hoelbrek sometimes too
I agree with brandon d/d is better than a/d but as long as you have offhand dagger you are good with its superior defensive skills
Spectral Walk + Flesh Wurm should always be on your bar as a zerk necro they are the best disengages we have
Might stacking? Blood is power
Boon heavy enemy team? Corrupt boon or well of corruption
More burst? Well of Suffering
The last utility is truly up to you and the enemy and your allies
Lich is too gimmicky for me I roll with Plague for safe stomps and for stalling/tanking when you are outnumbered on a point
So you have no points in curses which is the condition damage line and complain about garbage bleeding damage

The story here is I killed glock a lot in the 1v1 koth pvp server – salty
The thing is practically everyone killed glock though regardless of build/class
that being said, perplexity is a rune set that has been in the game for a long time now, so the usual reason you see gear not available in sPvP just doesn’t apply. in fact, I believe the devs have even publicly rejected the idea of including perplexity runes in sPvP when it was suggested.
Wrong. The Devs did want to add Perplexity to PvP. They felt it was balanced for the game mode.
However, the announcement drew tons of hate from players, and they decided against it. Keep in mind that they were to be added in the same patch that all of the runes got revamped, so players made that decision without context or experience.
without context or experience? what about what they did to wvw? or are you one of those people who try to completely separate wvw and pvp as if they’re separate games entirely?
however perplexity’s rejection happened, it happened. the runes are not in spvp and you will not find a single spvp player wishing otherwise.
the dev’s are not infallible, and obviously they themselves recognize this.
They didn’t have context because the players had no idea what most of the runes were going to be at the time. Perplexity was one of only 2 or 3 runes that had been spoiled at that point. The rest, we learned about on patch day.
Likewise, no players had experience with how the new Perplexity Runes would actually work out. How could they, when they hadn’t played with them?
The original time that Perplexity was going to be introduced to PvP was the same exact patch that completely overhauled runes and sigils as well as balance changes to the professions. If they were going to be introduced to PvP, say, two months later, then yes, there would be experience via WvW and context via knowing other runes that could have been used for better decisions. But we didn’t have that.
The decision to keep Perplexity out of PvP was made by the player’s kneejerk reactions. Whether this was a good or bad decision, we can debate all you like, but the reason why is a documented fact.
And you will find sPvP players wishing for Perplexity. They may be the minority, but they exist.

Last Gasp is about the only significant defensive buff of the 3 things you’ve mentioned.

No I got a better one: I’d rather they bring back Reanimator as a master trait and I’d still take that one over Reaper’s Protection.

Reapers Protection isn’t amazing but to say it’s useless is ridiculous – it is especially useful against thieves with sleight of hand – S/D has no way to proc RP from range to avoid it like D/P does and Thieves obviously don’t run around with stability and S/D meta build only has one stunbreak so you can potentially one shot them in a long fear chain

Game breaking? No. Very strong? Yes. The rune set very often carries the player, which is bad design, IMO.
Equal in condition damage bonuses
The #6 bonus of krait runes has NO COUNTERPLAY – it is unblockable 3 different cond
The #6 bonus of perplexity runes is undoubtedly stronger but it is counterable by stability unless facing a thief with sleight of handDon’t forget that the 6th bonus on krait depends on using an elite, which is usually a 45 sec cd in the best case scenario (often much longer). The 6th bonus on perplexity can be proc’d much more often, given the many interrupts most classes have.
I know how it works – my sb bleed ranger prefers it to Perplexity with her low cd elite skill entangle traited
Perplexity does not “carry players” anymore than any other strong rune set – Power players have plenty of runes that are uncounterable and permanently effective like strength runes or hoelbrek or air/fire sigils etc etc
At least I can pop my zerker stance/stability/condi clear and stop perplexity from being effective
For some reason people just don’t like condis and confusion especially so it makes perplexity somehow special and deserving of more nerfs – it won’t change anything thieves will jump to krait runes and still own the roaming scene

Build should be 6/6/x/x/x for maximum condi POWA
Givers weapons suck now and forever – Insert more Dire cheese
Spiteful Removal sucks now and forever – Insert Signet Mastery
Perplexity is way better then sunless – mad fears mad ’rupts mad confusion
That’s about as cheesy as it gets – Dire P/D Perplexity Thieves aint got kitten on this
You sacrifice way too much for the warhorn trait
Without it you have 19.5 seconds of swiftness from horn and 39 from Spectral Walk – considering you will use locust swarm twice before walk is off cool down you have 100% swiftness uptime
Close to Death is too good to give up – Use Chill of Death instead of Axe Mastery it is more reliable as it will proc if you have dagger or axe and the timing is so very nice with Close to Death for the bursties!
Alternatively if you take strength runes and spectral mastery you can get more damage while maintaining nearly 100% swiftness uptime – just throw in a battle/strength sigil somewhere for might
Lets compare it to Krait Runes which is probably the second best condition rune set

This is sort of a wash 3 stacks of confusion is stronger but the ICD is also higher

I’m not convinced every matchup is a positive one which is how you spinned it vs every class
The issue with 6/x/6/x/x builds is you lose your burst and become tankier but still not tanky enough to hold a point against multiple foes since zerker ammy – too in between for me not enough purpose – medi guard is better in tanking AND damage with zerker all you got is range which is nothing in conquest
People are still defending D/D like it was the summer of 2012.. ahhhh those were the days Mug could still crit and Basilik Venom was unbreakable
Fast forward to Fall 2014 where Cloak and Dagger and Dancing Dagger have seen its damage cut by a third, mug no longer crits, and basilik venom has become closer to a utility skill than an elite
D/D is trash folks.. its gone the way of the dinosaur and only stubborn thieves who still think underbewb + dual incinerators = proleetmlg420noscope
It was fun while it lasted and it is simply time for Anet to give skills #3/4/5 a much needed facelift
Thief could never shadow step on to keep walls in WvW
You can only shadow step to locations where you have line of sight and where there is a clear path to that location – you wont be able to shadow step over a cliff for example

This is irrelevant and you will most likely not be able to tell the difference at all
Killing someone faster is always better than mitigating damage through armor – blinds stealth and evades should be the ways you mitigate damage as a thief
Strength Runes > Ogre Runes
Power of Inertia > Fleet Shadow
D/P > D/D
FOOD
^ Those things will make more of a difference than 100 toughness or 6% critical damage
One day they will balance for WvW roaming – NOT
Get rid of Perplexity runes and I equip Tormenting/Krait
Few weeks later – Nerf Krait Runes!
Blinds and Dodges/Evades are more powerful in PvE
Try offhand pistol #5 skill
3 points in acrobatics with SoA gives you “burst” of 3-4 dodges

Mesmer has amazing IN-COMBAT mobility – I think that is what the OP is attempting to talk about here
Phase Retreat and Blink alone is more mobility than most professions
My problem with this thread is the assumption that Warrior is “broken” in PvE
The only thing that is “broken” in PvE is the condition cap and the support options of a Necromancer
Bringing the warrior from 6th? DPS to 4th? DPS or whatever the hell it is does not seem like a priority AT ALL
Buffing OH Axe and the Leap skills surely seem like better avenues to explore with minimal consequences on the overall game balance
