I often make my own builds since I actually have the mechanically depth and understanding to do so with my main, necromancer, while builds I play on other classes end up being closer to the meta since I don’t have as vast of knowledge on those other classes.

But still I feel as though this meta superiority complex is foolish unless you’re a new player. Look at so many of the proleague players. Lots them are playing “snowflakes” like staff or dd tempest over df, playing wanderer’s durability reaper or cele builds on EU that don’t take the kittenty signet heal.

The fact is that rotations and individual mechanical depth and teamwork and communications have far more impact on the outcome of a match than the individual builds you run as long as those builds aren’t intrinsically bad. When you’ve been playing as long as I have you realize what non meta builds on our main work and don’t work.

You are 100% correct – Conquest matches are mostly decided by rotations and teamwork

Meta builds are NOT necessary but lets be honest here – most people aren’t good enough to run whatever they want

In the three year history of this games pvp there has not been more than 5-6 builds that were superior for conquest – This is actually balanced – There was never a time when you did not have OPTIONS – You just chose not to use the options given to you

People still believe that one day there will be 20+ builds that will be viable?

Do you honestly believe that one day they will make your special snow flake build viable? Do you really believe that EVERY traitline for EVERY class will be equal and competitive?

All this crying about balance yet you have these options just pick one of the meta builds- Rev/Reaper/Tempest/Scrapper/Druid/DH – If you are really bad I suggest DH

Don’t like the meta builds because they are “lame” or “cheesy” better get used to losing

OR

Make a team and coordinate so that you can play your special snowflake Necro Minion Healer build and have a chance at winning with superior rotations and coordination

Don’t wanna make a team? Don’t wanna use a meta build? Stick to unranked and let the big boys who care about winning play in ranked

There is no constructive conversation because it is unnecessary – Major overhauls to class mechanics DO NOT happen 3+ years into the life span of the game

Ranger will always have a pet – Necro will always have deathshroud -Thief will always have stealth

I think the trait is slightly overrated but I only played a handful of games with it – Definitely needs more testing

One thing is for sure – I would NEVER give up PoC for this trait

Greater Marks is literally one of the worst major traits in the game – It makes 4 skills unblockable at a cost of 4 trait points which is absolutely ridiculous and needs to be merged with staff mastery

Every other profession simply has the skill as unblockable without a trait

We already have a bunch of unblockable skills including DS#2/5 Corrupt Boon Warhorn #4

Way over budget for a trait that literally works against two professions – I can wait for the block to end or use one of my other unblockable skills

Channeled abilities will cancel if they immobilize you during the cast as well

Any time I get immobilized I have to cast the same ability 20 times before it goes off

The difference is the ele has to actually attune to air, he has to do something. Hell, half of the necros don’t even know when their trait procs. Also the difference in damage and utility.

I never said I want it to get removed, I asked for adding an animation. As I wouldn’t mind if Electric Discharge had a tell.

Your justification is you have to attune to air? I am sure you know about fresh air renewing that cooldown every 5 seconds on a crit – with zerk ammy you are always critting

So a every 5 seconds I get hit by a lightning strike with no tell/animation and I do not need to be under 50% HP

I think we can all agree the stability portion of elites, prior to this change, were far too easy to counter.

Hopefully we can all also agree than 3 stacks of 3s stability every 3 seconds has swung too far in the opposite direction, making it far too hard to counter realistically.

I’m just guessing that WvW influenced this decision – I don’t WvW, but I’m assuming that in zerg v zerg, CC is flying around everywhere and it’s possible to eat through 3 stacks of stability in 3s. In PvP however, this doesn’t feel feasible – 3stacks of 3s stability every 3s feels uncounterable.

A good compromise might be lenghtening the duration/time between pulses – 3 stacks of 6s stability every 6s feels both powerful for the user, and counterable by coordinated players (IMO) in sPvP at least.

I see what you’re saying but at the same time Lich is counterable specifically it is only 1 stack every 3 seconds – it is an OFFENSIVE elite so it should be counterable

I do not feel like Plague/Rampage should be able to be tossed around – They are mostly defensive/CC oriented

RaO feels wrong to me too offensive/defensive at the same time this one feels like it should be 1 stack every 3 seconds

Either way 3 stacks every 6 seconds is a decent compromise IMO – Only coordinated team effort can counter it

Pressing 111111111111111 on Lich without it being able to be countered with boon rip is silly.

Elites shouldn’t be autowins like the above 3 posters think.

A lich without stability can still press 1111111

Projectile reflect/LoS might make him stop pressing 111111

Lich SHOULD be strong – just like crate or moa for example

The cooldown justifies the strength of the skill don’t you think?

That warrior build is just another build with some changes. And you’re missing 2 trait points. If you create a build yourself it is 100% likely it will just be a variation of an older build.

yea but who cares? the point is these builds are not considered meta and I’m saying it’s only because none of the small group of elite players play it, and it’s NOT because it isn’t viable.

Abjured is going to be running power necro now – no one would say that it is “meta” but since he is a top tier player on a top tier team it will become “meta”

The best players create the “meta” not the solo q heroes – that should be obvious

BUT at the same time the top tier players choose certain builds for a reason – They are usually optimized for a certain ROLE on the team that they are attempting to execute

So yes not every build is viable but there are builds that are viable right now that are not meta and that is simply due to the players not using them

it doesn’t care how many stacks the target has. But a lot of these will pulse stability, so the opportunity cost will change.

The elites are the only ones that pulse right?

Seems like you want to cast it at the beginning of the pulse since it will re apply stability in 3 seconds

This thread has all kinds of fail in it

1. If rifle/warrior were truly OP and needed balancing you should post in the Warrior forums not the thief forums
2. Clearly rifle is not OP in fact.. it was just buffed and STILL a rifle warrior is not meta for anything in this game except killing noob thieves who aren’t paying attention
3. L2P you have 3 utilities 2 dodges and stealth/evade on every weapon set you can mitigate a kill shot at ANY time unless you have no endurance/utilities/initiative in which case you got outplayed

Please stop responding to everyone the game has been live for almost THREE years now – No one thinks “Kill Shot” is overpowered we have learned to play eventually you will too – just let it go

1- And that automaticly makes me wrong? I am not surprised.

3- According to your statement, If kill-shot is only able to one-shot thieves, it is a balancing issue.

3-Every class has 3 dodges and 2 evades. Stealth doesn’t help againts Channel skills.

None of these matter when the warrior one-shots you at 1500 range when you clearly cannot see him. And no, seeing only his name tag is not enough.
